Uchuu Majin Daikengou
宇宙魔神ダイケンゴー

Since there are no reviews of the series I thought I had to write a little something. In a summary I would say that Uchuu Majin Daikengou is your typical super robot anime of the 70's in all departments, recommended for fans of the genre and with only 26 episodes it doesn't overstay it's welcome. The protagonist is prince Ryger of planet Emperius who along with Cleo and the comic relief characters of the story Anike and Otoke (in my opinion they are more irritating than entertaining). Their mission is to stop the Mangellan empire from conquering the galaxy and they are up against a multitude of giant robots that are mostly fossils of animals, insects, fish etc. sent by Roboleon, the robot general of Magellan and creation of Lady Baracross (which is another comic relief character and the one that makes a better job than Anike and Otoke in my opinion). Overall I think it's a decent watch. I would prefer if there was less comedy involved because it becomes frustrating at times. The drama and suspence elements are nice but most of the time expected and the main story is OK but nothing special. Another minor negative is that there are I believe two or three episodes with some repeated scenes and in a such a small series you don't want that.

This is an old anime and I just finished watching it blindly just because I wanted to watch some old-ass mecha anime by Nagai Go. And which is a space opera as well, which is interest. Inspired in Mazinger Z in many ways but now in space. And that's nice, there's some worldbuilding and many interesting acclamations to be done to this show. During the 80s, I suppose it would be very intriguing to develop such shows and we can somehow see the evolution compared to Mazinger Z (which I watched some 20 episodes though). What really kills it I think that are the some of the episodic plots which are just repetitiive. Like, really. There are some golden gems of episodes but they are not the big part. I could say that the show really got some nice fights, effects and even plot-lines of interest from 12 onwards. After that, there are just some episodes that really makes the show tiring. In fact, even the ending falls short in many aspects as I think it is anticlimatic, but, somehow, okay I guess... If you are interest on history of mecha and really hyped about space mecha and space opera you can enjoy it. I liked the art and some fights. Just don't expect too much. That's why it is fine.
