About the worst I can say for this movie is that I don't know if it really needed to exist in the first place, since I think Steins;Gate's ambiguous ending is as near-perfect as I can imagine for a story like this. That being said, Deja Vu explores some interesting ideas, has some great moments between characters, and gives us a more Kurisu-focused story, which is cool. I feel like I walked away from this movie liking Kurisu even more than I already did, and seeing her deal with some of the same things Okabe had to in the original series really helps you gain a better understanding of her as a person. Even if I didn't need it, I'll take any chance I can to dive back into the world of Steins;Gate.

Alrighty, well. I'm running out of ways to talk about Steins;Gate, so I'm just gonna do the best I can. Jumping right in, the story for this film is interesting to say the least. I will say right out the gate that the writing isn't quite as eloquent as the original series' is. It didn't seem to flow quite as well with what the tone of Steins;Gate is usually like. As far as the story content itself... well, it wasn't what I was expecting. It turned into something a little more fluffy than I was hoping for. Not that the movie was "fluffy" per se, I just assumed the events and overall plot would be darker and more detailed (much akin to the original series). The character developments in this films were sort of stagnant, I guess? There was development for one character, but it wasn't necessarily important development, if that makes sense. I don't know, it just felt like the character relationships weren't being presented as richly and intensely as I'm used to seeing. From what I know about this movie, I think all of this is because the plot of this movie doesn't come from the light novel that the original series came from, so it didn't translate 100% the same way. That being said, I still enjoyed the film, semi-fluffy though it was. I thought the base plot of Okabe having issues with his ability was a really cool idea. I do feel like the explanation for it all was a little weak, but that's to be expected, as I said. There's some good moments in here that made me feel for the characters like I did in the series, so I'm glad some of the memories carried over. All in all, the film fell a bit flat for me, but to be honest, Steins;Gate isn't quite my thing to begin with, so I think people will really love this movie if they were in love with the series. I don't regret experiencing it, that's for sure.

Steins;Gate Movie: Fuka Ryouiki no Déjà vu has many of the same themes as the series packed into a more digestible time format. This is a good thing for fans of the series as they get to see more of their favorite characters. Those who have not seen the anime will undoubtedly be confused and disappointed. The movie plays out similarly to the original series but swapping the main character role, leaving viewers with a real sense of Déjà vu. If you have already seen the anime then you know what to expect and if you haven't go watch the anime first. This movie is not critical to the enjoyment of the series, but does expand on some characters in a good way.

I just wanted to start with this, because it's honestly the only reason I decided to write this review, and not a spoiler either, but at 1:18:37 they snuck in a bright yellow Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 2 which I thought was sick. Also watch it, it's good. This one focuses more on someone other than Okabe, though at the start it seems like it would be a repeat of the OVA where they just get together and interact or have a good time, but there's actually a great deal of plot development. If you enjoyed the main show, you'll have a great time watching this movie.

When I started this movie, I really didn't feel like Steins;Gate had anything left to offer. Don't get me wrong, the anime is incredible, but it was a bit long. But this doesn't matter, because this movie is top tier. Now, how did the Steins;Gate series manage to successfully outgrow its tired niche? Well, the main thing that happened is that they changed the main character. And honestly, that was a satisfying change. Christina had her character moment, which she desperately needed. For real, it was a waste to have her simply be a shoulder to lean on. This movie made me notice something with the original anime, and to be fair, that's a something that happens in most of fiction. I call it MC centrism. Basically, it's when the MC is the centerpiece of all of character interactions. It is somewhat annoying and it makes me feel like the world revolves around said character. My point is that the characters I've grown accustomed to felt new again now that the center of attention switched from Okarin to Kurisu. One last thing, I kindly thank the people at White Fox for that one shot of Kurisu. You know the one. Or maybe I'm just a degen. Talking about the one where you can peek into her shirt. The animator who drew that bit is unfathomably based and I appreciate his (or her, girls can be degens too) work.

I really like steins;gate but I just wanted to say that I am very disappointed by the story. So be careful because I am going to spoil. SPOILER: The story is nice overall but if you think about it it makes no sense. The purpose of Kurisu is to give a memorable memory to Okabe but the thing is: Okabe isn't originalyfrom the steins gate so everything before 2010 happens with the Okabe of the Steins Gate wich hasn't been replaced yet. I say this because Kurisu went to 2005 to create a memorable memory but traveler Okabe remembered it wich makes no sense! The second problem is actually the worst. They created a time paradox. Kurisu teached Okabe about Hououin Kyouma but he should have been the one to come up with this idea on its own.

It uses flash backs of VN alt endings which hits hard, shame it was only an hour and a half. Those first 20 words were gonna be the entire review but MAL says I gotta write more so I'll talk about the VN. Getting those alt endings helps add oomph to moments in this. VN's just awesome, every steins; gate fan should go through it. Not saying not to watch it if you haven't experienced the VN, just saying it makes it better for sure and should just be read through anyway as it definitely keeps SG in your mind (soundtracks great too) Oh yeah they use music from VN which also hits hard lol Also don't worry about VN flashbacks they don't spoil VN as you'll know if you experienced them but it'll probably just fly past you if you haven't.

An ambiguously canon sequel to a visual novel adaptation that already had a definitive, if somewhat intentionally vague and open-ended conclusion. The fate of Makise Kurisu and Okabe Rintarou's relationship was left ambiguous because ultimately, we don't really need to see it to know what's probably going to happen. All he needed to do was re-establish contact with her and all the things they liked about each other in the other world lines would probably still be there. There wasn't really any reason to make a movie about an amnesia plot that's been a staple of the romantic comedy since Shakespeare invented it (I don't know if he really did but most romcom tropes can be traced back to one of his plays so that's what we're going with.) So yeah, the movie was probably pointless, but I had just finished Steins;Gate and I was hungry for more. I don't really remember thinking that this ultimately added anything to the story. It may have even detracted a bit from the ending by artificially extending the conflict and time-travel stuff. I think it was territory that didn't really needed to be tread and probably was better off left alone. It's sad to see a show end sometimes, and you may have a desire to see where the characters go after the happily ever after, but sometimes it's better not to ask that question because the answer could be Boruto or The Last Jedi. Now I'm sad, I'm gonna give this a 7/10 and go watch some pre-Disney Star Wars.
