Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

When I had first heard about Magi, I was too overly interested and said I would watch it at a later time. But when I couldn't get the anime I wanted working, I decided to give the first episode a shot. I have been stuck ever since. This is truly an amazing anime that really sucks you in and gives wonder to the genre. Story - 9 - As much as I loved the story, there were times when I didn't quite understand what was going on. It at times seemed a little fast paced for the mind to keep up, and then there were times when it seemed a little too slow for my taste. But then the story picked back up and kept me interested for quite some time. So, yes, the story has it's ups and downs, and I don't think it as all overly original, for dungeons have always been a popular topic for both animes and games recently. But it does have it's creative moments with many of the events that happen within and the abilities that reside there. Art - 10 - I do have to say, the art was wondrous. The scenery was always breath-taking and never looked out of place. The monster designs were interesting and different at times as well as the characters. No one person looked the same, everyone was unique in their own style. I also loved the different art styles used through-out the anime, had very intense art for important parts and then little chibis for the comedy. It all fit together rather well. Sound - 10 - The voice actors were stellar, the emotion always present in their voices and acting, you could really feel everything that the actor and character was trying to express. I have to say, without the voices that were in this, I don't think the anime could have been such a hit. They could switch from a light mood and go straight into a darker situation within seconds of the anime. And the music fit well with the focus of the anime, the opening and endings always catchy but symbolic to the anime. The background music has a certain feel to it that often was able to explain many situations that occurred and the sound effects were spot on. Character - 10 - Like every anime, there were your good characters and your bad characters, yes, even I found some characters that I rather disliked. I could never find myself to like Judal, he just didn't seem right to me to begin with, I personally always found him a little off. But one thing about him, is that I never really get to know much about him. Even though I think his personality was made for use to dislike him, we can help but wonder about who exactly he is. The same can be said about many other characters that appear in this, not everything about them is revealed in this season, which leads more to be said in the next one. Enjoyment - 9 - Like I said, when I first started watching, I couldn't bring myself to stop. But there were times when I found myself bored and like I was about to fall asleep. Thankfully, these moments were few and far between. Mostly through my experience watching it, I was sucked and always eager to watch the next episode. There was a time when I was around episode 15 and such, and I had to retire for the night, but I did not want to go to sleep. Course, I forced myself to stop and get some rest but the minute I woke up, I went straight back to watching it. The anime is rather addicting and hard to put done at times, but I guess that's what makes a good anime, in a sense. Overall - 10 - I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent on watching the anime. The only down point I see to this is that I must now await the second season. Thankfully, I've started this anime late in the game and have little time to wait for the second installment that is said to be released in October of this year. I eagerly await this new season and look forward to the tales it is likely to unfold for us. I highly recommend this anime.

Magi is an anime inspired by arabian night tales, it starts out all and well with an interesting plot line and intriguing deep characters. The story follows as Alibaba and Aladdin meet and form a strong bond together over the course of the series. However, towards the middle of the series the plot becomes hazy and you're not sure where things are going and suddenly the show ends. The series had a huge potential to explore more of the characters and their development, however as watchers we end up getting introduced to potentially important characters towards the last 3 episodes. Which is quite shameful in consideration to what the series could offer for more entertainment. 25 episodes are just simply not enough even if there is an upcoming sequel the rushed events that happened within the actual show leave you hanging, wondering about the details and also bitter feelings towards the shortness and rushed events of the show. The show does however explore the arabian 101 theme differently and gives it a new twist that captured me as a watcher. Story wise the show's decent but it wasn't executed correctly (in the anime at the very least), personally I would have preferred to see more of the characters and for the author to just simply focus on one potential goal for the show instead of many events happening and no decent end result. The art for the show is alright. Nothing special or outstanding about it to make it stand out. The sound also is medicore at best. There weren't any decent tracks that catch the watchers interest. However the soundtrack was at least matching with the events so it receives good points for that. The play with arabian elements in the tracks is also executed decently albeit their unoriginality. The overall enjoyment of the show is alright considering the fact that the arabian 101 theme has already been overused. Kudos to the author however for giving it a new twist and creating intriguing characters at the very least. I'm sure the events are more outstanding and more detailed in the manga so yes the anime at least opens that one door that makes you want to at least see these events by reading. Overall I'd say the show is fairly watchable. It held my interest at least till the very end.

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic had all of the right stuff to be great... ...But it wasn't (yet!). It might be right to say that the first season of the anime was more like a prologue than a real anime. Lots of information to relay and little story to tell. Story: the story get some bad points at the most important part of the plot, the climax. It was not well done, with lots of information dragging through 3-4 episodes (those last 2 arcs were really disappointing to me, that had high expectations for this show). Art: What can I say about the art...the budget didn't help? I mean, when they wanted to, it was an epic animation, the drawings were perfect and the art flow was very well made. But this "perfect" animation in some episodes had its bill payed with the killing of other episodes, that were kind of...sloppy. Sound: I can say that the sound is the most personal opinion I have here. When talking about sound, we think about the OP and ED, but this time what got me was the background music. I always liked this Arabian Nights music and it is simply beautiful to hear it. Love it (but the OP and ED got some points off it, truly bad). Character: I think that here is where Magi shines. Alladin, Alibaba and Morgiana had one of the best character development of the year (and I can't wait what will happen on the next season). Adding it with Ugo, the princes and princesses all around...Everyone had the spotlight at themselves at some point. Enjoyment: Well, I enjoyed. Even with the animation and pace issues, I admit that I expected every single chapter anxiously, and that is only found in good animes Overall: If Magi had been a 1-cour show, it would be rushed, with 2-cour it was slow paced. I can say that, even though my rating was quite poor, I'm going to watch the 2nd season for sure (praying that they get some better budget for animation, so it can be even better).

*This is my first review ever so I apologize in advance if it's not as organized as you would expect* I don't know how to start this review other than by saying that Magi is great! It's absolutely everything a fantasy genre lover like me was looking for in an anime, and I genuinely haven't been this entertained in a long time. However, from a weird pacing to an awful ending, not everything is as good as I hoped for, and a few promises this rather amazing anime made were left unanswered. I want to start off by saying all the things I liked the most, and then what I liked the least. What I liked: -Interesting, unique and captivating world building -Great concept with amazing magic and fighting styles -Lovable and believable characters -Great balance between light-hearted comedy and serious moments -And most of all, how it's set up to be very dynamic, leaving no room for boredom whatsoever What I disliked: -Very arc driven, so much so that you lose sight of each character's goals and there's no real sense of storyline -(Not so) Rare but definitely uncomfortable pseudo-ecchi moments to appeal shonen audiences that the anime could very well live without -Poor in-depth analysis about almost anything -Anti-climatic and rushed ending that was aiming for a great closer but turned out to be meaningless and out of place Story: Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic is a compelling and magical adventure where you feel you're being taken along for the ride. Its themes, concept and inspiration are, for the most part, very well executed, with amazing characters, amazing magic display and amazing world building. However, regarding a real "story", there's barely anything to hold on to. Although I'm sure it may change along the seasons and manga chapters, this first anime season was a little bit all over the place and just when you thought you were going a certain direction, they chose to follow a completely new and unrelated one. By doing so, I feel like they missed out on some explanations. In the end, although it initially seemed that everything was solved, I got the impression that I didn't know anything about anything, as it was more of a fun adventure rather than a plot-filled story. Characters: Each character in this anime is really special. Not only are they all very unique, but they're also very lovable and I dare to say unexpected. Not a single one is flat-lined and one dimensional. Each character is multi-layered and show a great development throughout the show. For example, I was expecting Morgiana to be more annoying and "tsundere" like, as it is the cliché for these types of anime, but I was surprised to see her as a quiet and disciplined person. Of course it matches with her past and all the difficulties she went through, but some anime won't go as far as to keep their characters cohesive. Not only that, but she also proved multiple times that her rather cold and serious image hides a warm and caring heart that is full of hope. Another example is Aladdin. While he's definitely your standard upbeat, friendly and easy going main character, there were some unpredictable moments that made me question everything about him. By no means does he come across as ill-intended, but there's definitely some mystery and depth to him that makes him stand out among his peers. Art: Nothing short of excellent. Character design is amazing and the animation definitely brings everything to life in a magical way like very few anime do. Enjoyment: Could've been a 10/10 if it wasn't for the ending, but unfortunately it turned me off so much that I'm even having a hard time watching season 2. But knowing that it's an Anime Only mistake, I'm definitely looking forward for more! Overall, if this is an anime you've been planning on watching and you somehow stumbled upon this review, take this as a sign from the universe. Watch it and dive into this magical world like I am doing. It may not be perfect as I see it, but I'm completely sure you won't regret your journey.

I first began this anime sometime in 2018 or 2019, but I was a newbie to anime watching and I couldn't understand something like Magi. So I stopped after the first episode. Now, I picked the series back up, and honestly, I loved it a lot. There are many connections to real life, in location and thought processes. Behind the exterior of a great Arabian Nights themed adventure with djinns and magic, characters with names similar to those stories, there's also a whole deeper meaning... or so I think. There are many countries in the world of Magi, such as the Leam/Reim Empire, Kou Empire, Sindria, Balbadd, etc, which are all governed differently. Not to count the various small communities and villages that are visited. Each of these empires has their own way of governing and thinking, all of which relates to what we know today. They are almost all (or all) based on some real world equivalent, which is honestly really cool and makes it interesting. There is no simplistic good/evil, everyone has their own idea of benefitting the world or their own factions. Everyone has their motives. And those that are "good" can have darker ways to try and achieve their goals. The "villains" can have good intentions, but not the best way to go about it. Each character has their own ideals, and their version of an ideal world. Honestly, it's very interesting learning about every characters' motives and intentions. Those are reasons I liked the actual anime, but back to the actual "review" where I try to analyze stuff! The concept and magic system are amazing, by the way. People who use magic can lose to people who only use physical combat, due to the whole system. There's really no one super powerful faction or person... oh wait, there is, but it's not too important. ANYWAY. Story: My mind is still boggled from just the first season, forget the second season or the manga... A lot went on in these first 25 chapters. New characters make their appearance in interesting ways. Old characters return in equally as interesting ways. Meanwhile, throughout various small plots, a larger plot runs through the first season (and well, throughout the whole Magi series?). Very epic and adventure filled. I give it a.... 9.5/10. The 0.5 went off for "I'm still confused as to what the heck happened because it was too much and too awesome." Art: I think the manga looked different, but I'm not complaining. Fight animations were great. Characters were nice and colorful, and. Well. This is how I do art rating for series, so I give a 10/10 for awesomeness. Oh, the Rukh looked very nice too. Cool glowing butterfly bird things. Sound: I loved the opening and ending songs, as well as the OST, from what I could hear. And the voice actors... Amazing. I spent so much time pausing the video to check *if that one character had the voice actor I thought they did* and of course they all did a wonderful job. 10/10. Character: All the characters are diverse, and represent different countries/have lots of different ideals and beliefs, and methods used to make their beliefs happen. As mentioned before, there is no clear "good" and "evil." Ones who are the villains are villains for reasons. When their motives are revealed, they just seem like another ordinary character who just went the wrong way to achieve their goals. And the "good" characters aren't completely "good" either. They aren't always correct, and make errors too. And some make mistakes on their quest to fulfill their intentions. Wow. Very complex. 11/10. And honestly, it's so interesting, I might have to rewatch just to try to figure out what they really thought. Enjoyment: 10/10 for sure! I spent a good 13 hours watching all 25 episodes, probably not the best idea when I have so much work this summer, but it was just really awesome. Magi is really unique in many ways and I am very glad I decided to watch this series. 100% would recommend. Definitely a 10/10. Oh, and as a side note, the Magi Live Events had those hilarious moments that are 100% worth watching as well. Some English subbed videos can be found on the internet, and really it just makes the series 10x better. As if the series weren't good enough already.

Magi is an amazing concept, the anime is based on politics and I can't think of many anime that follow a similar concept to magi, but how it was executed? That's a whole other story Story: 6/10, like I said magi is an amazing and unique concept but unfortunately it turns out to be your run of the mill shounen anime at some points and the story gets quite repetitive, I can't go into detail so I don't spoil it for anyone Animation: 7/10, fight scenes are really well done and fast paced, the animation is pretty good overall and I love it Sound: 8/10, I watched it in dub and honestly the dub is surprisingly good, and the openings and endings are some of the best I have ever heard and the ost is real good as well Characters: 3/10,so here is where it gets bad, alibaba is a trash mc with 2 personalities: a crybaby and a dumbass, aladdin is a decent mc and has a bigger pair than half the characters, judar is probably the worst villain I have ever seen, he is literally evil for the sake of it and I don't think they even mentioned what his motivation to be such a asshole was, morgiana is probably the best character in the whole series, her character development is very good and she isn't a crybaby like half the characters, sinbad is a good character, though I liked young sinbad better, this sinbad is still awesome and as badass as young sinbad, jafar is still an amazing character as well, hinahoho Is probably the only likeable one of the 8 generals (only because of sinbad no bouken) and the rest of the characters aren't worth talking about Anyways that is what I think of magi: labyrinth of magic, I hope kingdom of magic can improve the show immensely cause considering magi sinbad no bouken is the best anime I have ever watched, I know the mangaka can execute the concept amazingly

My absolute favorite thing about anime is the art style. I just love how colorful it is! This is an amazing anime about a boy with a mysterious past. The setting for the first few episodes reminds me a lot of Disney's Aladdin. If I were to say one bad thing about the anime it'd be that the script didn't introduce the world that well. For instance, there is magic in this anime but we're are told nothing about how magic works in this world. There are a few times I was confused because the just lacked what was common knowledge in the anime. My questions did get answered as the show went on, especially in season 2 (The Kingdom of Magic) and the side story (Adventure of Sinbad). Although it is out of order, I highly recommend watching Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic and then Magi: Adventure of Sinbad before Magi: Kingdom of Magic. It won't at all spoil season 2 but it will give some much-needed background information on some of the characters.

"Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic" is, to me, a great amalgamation of all of the aspects of media that give anime it's flavor. Rich characters, a great story, good art, the list goes on. From Aladdin to Ali Baba, every character is given an interesting twist even if they appear to be boring and generic. Let me explain more about each of these points in detail. The story in Magi is something that has carried the show for me to an extent. The political twist and turns, how it effects the characters, and the absolutely spectacular villain give the show a feeling of having something to say, and damn is it entertaining. From *spoilers* Ali Baba's connection to Kassim and Kassim's (and, to a lesser extent Judar's) relatability is legitimate gold. Aladdin is written and developed masterfully, with his abilities connecting to his development as a person. All of this, only held back by Ahbmad's mediocrity and Ithnan's... Ithnan-ness, is absolutely deserving of a 9. The art in Magi, although not Your Name or A Silent Voice spectacular, is good and consistent. The fight scenes look good and the rest of the show is pretty consistent, and what more can ya really ask for. Easy 7. The sound is... mediocre and holds the show back a bit. The fights lose a bit of 'punch' and the dramatic scenes feel less heavy because of how lackluster the music is. Don't get me wrong it's not necessarily BAD, as much as it's just not on par with the other aspects of the story and doesn't give me that feeling of power. 5/10. The characters are very well developed and interesting. Ali Baba's arc involving Kassim and the guilt that comes with it is absolutely heart breaking in the best way possible. Aladdin isn't quite as emotionally interesting as Ali Baba, but watching his arc unfold is interesting in it's own way. 9/10 Enjoyment is just overall, fuck you MAL. 9/10 easy. Great watch, absolutely recommend.

Story (9/10): Unique take on magical adventure shounen with an Arabian Nights aesthetic. The concept of "Rukh" lends the show to philosophical themes such as destiny, fate, and moral right vs. wrong, so it leaves you thinking more than most shounen do. The writing is paced well, has very little filler, and finds a good balance between lighthearted moments and serious ones. Art (7/10): The art and animation here was decent, but at times the show was animated awkwardly. Sound (7/10): The soundtrack was okay. Nothing memorable. A few times in the last couple episodes it actually became distracting and out of place (e.g. long trumpet and guitar solos during casual conversations). Character (8/10): The characters are enjoyable and written well overall! Sinbad is amazing and carries the show sometimes. Overall (7/10): Magi separates itself from other shounen with its unique aesthetic. The story and characters are strong enough to make me want to check out season two and the spinoff. But, the production quality do hold this back so I will not revisit this.

*watched this show a while ago and don't remember too much just a PSA* So anime tackles middle eastern stories huh? Well this show is probably not anywhere near accurate to the original stories but that's perfectly fine. Admittedly I only watched this show because of one of my favorite board games: Arabian Nights and one of my friends jokingly telling me Magi was basically that if it became an anime. This show very much felt like it was checking boxes for adventure shounen story and that's fine with me. I have zero problems with shows that check boxes and does it well. The characters are a lot of fun and have good chemistry and the world building while in some areas not the greatest overall well done. Would recommend the dub for Magi, it wasn't the greatest dub I've heard but if your looking for a good dub this one fits the bill.

~Spoiler Free~ Now it is hard to impress me with something like this and I think the musical artist here helped with this impression but this is an anime with a lot of emotion put in it, I can tell the (sub) voice actors enjoyed themselves a lot, and it helps the characters relationships fill so relaxing as if your apart of their friendly banter. I recommend this show to anyone interested in an action based story with historical elements involved, they did an amazing job with this world and I have become a fan personally. So with that said I hope you enjoy it, and that this helped your decision

The first season of Magi is actually pretty good. It's better than an 8 for the most part. I would have given it a 9, until I saw the end of the final episode. Spoilers ahead. The antagonist gets talk no jutsu'd. Yep. That's what happens. All of that buildup just so Alibaba can declare "I'm not going to hate anymore!" then the antagonist smiles and floats up to Solomon. A few exchanges of dialogue had caused him to abandon all his hatred? Yeah, I'm not buying that. Also one of her underlings gets scythed right through the goddamn stomach and she survived. I'm watching the second season now, and they're going through a character arc for Dunia, but still she should not have made it this far. It was a good show that got pretty much ruined by a terrible ending. All of the characters are great. Alibaba is a competent lead. Aladdin isn't that annoying with his childish antics and Morgiana is adorable. Sinbad is also a perfect character, which can be a downside for some, but he's not the protagonist so that's better at least. To repeat, the show is good, but the ending sucked.

I greatly enjoyed "Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic". At the beginning of the series I found Alibaba to be a weak coward that could not handle his own fate, but as I continued to watch the show I found that I was completely wrong. In addition, I loved how the story was able to show the backstory of the characters, without it dominating the subject of most of the episodes. I felt that the art was outstanding. You could visually see the emotions of the characters, sometimes in very humorous ways. The characters were all well developed and each character played an important role in the story. The history of each character fit well into the overall plot of the story, and no character seemed out of place. I loved this anime and recommend it to anime viewers who love magical kingdoms, excitement, humor, and bonds between the characters. I enjoy the messages spread by the main characters and the comedy mixed within the wonderful story!
Mikame-
Starting from The Adventures of Sinbad and coming to this I was a little sad to see Sinbad is only a supporting character, but that didn't last long. The beginning of this was just as enjoyable and Aladdin is just as great. He's cheeky, but clever and knows what he wants and needs to do, although he's still discovering who he is as a person. Aladdin meets Alibaba by immediately, though unintentionally causing trouble for him. It takes a little bit for them to get close to each other, but Aladdin asks for his friendship and Alibaba agrees. One of the things Aladdin strives for is to make friends, so he's very happy when his offer is accepted. You get to see them all grow up, become stronger mentally and psychically and get closer as friends. Aladdin, Alibaba and Morgiana are a great trio, they've very individual in themselves, yet fit together really well. They have their own hopes and dreams but stick together as much as possible, it shows true friendship and adds to the charm of the series. It's a story of adventure, friends, battles, magic and attaining your goals. Each person is prominent, there's not just one main story. Each of them weave in and out of each other to compliment the stories of others. It's mostly happy and fun, but it's not without it's emotional parts. The plot is different, the story is great and overall it's a very enjoyable series. It's definitely worth watching if you enjoy magic and adventure, plus good comedic parts along the way.

I recently finished the amazing anime that is 'Magi: Labyrinth of Magic'. This anime is really popular. (I mean...there are Aladdin and Alibaba plushies out there!) I've heard about it before (Many times over.) But I never really got into it. (I went through a 'No mainstream ANYTHING' phase. Yeah, that was not fun...) So, basically, this summer is 'Wren catches up with popular animes'. Derp. ~(._.)~ But, gosh, this is an amazing anime. It's so amazing. I can't stop gushing about it. (Well...I'll stop as soon as I start 'Your Lie in April'. Then ALL my Tweets will be GIFs of me crying. Can't wait for that, am I right?) Even though I wasn't a huge fan at first. (Truth.) This anime blew me away. (Which is another way to say 'I LOVE MAGI' subtly. Subtle.) You're probably wondering why. I mean, that's what this review is for! And you're obviously reading this review. Sooo. You know. 1) I actually felt something. In my cold, stone heart, I felt something. This anime seems like a lighthearted shounen until it slams you in the gut and screams "NO" really loudly. And flips the table. And steals your drink. (This anime is very cruel at times.) I had so many feels while watching this. Okay...I'll admit the first half or so with the 'Morgiana and Alibaba and Aladdin are separated. Oh no!' stuff, I got bored. Very so. But I persevered! That's when I hit the jackpot. This anime turns into a ball of deadly kill-your-feels scenes with a little dash of tears. Okay...more like a lot of tears. (I'm going to direct you to my analysis of episode 17. Ehem. Episode 17 Crying and laughing at the same time is a sign of madness...I meant an amazing anime. Hahahaha...ha.) My emotions were constantly on a rollercoaster once this anime started to pick up. This really happened with the Balbadd episodes. And, man, was that a good arc... But really. The emotions behind Alibaba's decisions and his rough past were really moving. And then the whole light and dark thing in the Zagan/the Organization arc? WOW. That was gorgeous. There were also many scenes that made you root for the underdogs. All the fight scenes for example. You cheered for Alibaba and Aladdin and Morgiana. I might have actually shouted loudly...once...or twice...or thrice... Yeah, this anime got me really riled up. (Not to mention all the times I yelled 'Democracy!') So, yes, this anime will make you cry. And scream. And cheer. But it's great because of it. 2) The power of light is tainted with lies and deceit but ultimately gets through it all. Yes, this is a typical shounen with the light versus dark theme. But this anime does it better than I've seen before. The rukh symbolizes the light and dark (As does the Sindria arc's growing purple-ish bruise-ish thing.) The fight between light and dark is fantastic, and it starts when Judal is introduced really. (Which is really early on.) The Sindria arc focuses more on the dark and light, but the Balbadd arc touches upon it (With Kassim. You can hear my wailing now.) I want to talk about the Organization instead. I talked about Kassim in my episode analysis. (Another shameless plug.) This is a group of bad guys. As typical of a shounen anime. But they infuse themselves with 'depravity'. In case you need to know the definition, I've pasted it below: "Depravity: noun moral corruption; wickedness." Thanks, Google. This is really interesting. The Organization has good intentions. (They want to avoid something...that seems unavoidable. Yup, no spoilers!) And they just chose the wrong way to do it. Then they try to bring everyone else to the dark side (Which I am a member of. I have fun here. We have cookies. And Darth Vader. And Victor Vale. WOOT WOOT.) But while the Organization is very stereotypical, the approach is different. This is focused on depravity and infecting people with darkness. Which is very interesting. Most 'organizations' just want to destroy everything. But this one doesn't. Hm. Interesting, no? 3) Alibaba isn't your stereotypical hero. He debates between light and dark. He falters. I would say a spoiler here...but I won't. You're welcome. But I'll SHOW a spoiler instead! -evil laughter- Constantly, he's teased by the dark side. But he has friendship and hope. And this brings out the best in him. He doesn't succumb to darkness (Or depravity as in this anime.) He fights through it. And that's amazing. He's not this insane hero of the light. He's a hero of the gray. And that makes him real. Not every real life hero has the most amazing scruples. They might fall. Maybe a little smoke or a little drink. Or, in Alibaba's case, a little DESTRUCTION OF AN ENTIRE KINGDOM. You know, small stuff. But they bounce back. And so did Alibaba. I admire him. That's for sure. 4) Aladdin and Alibaba are FRIENDSHIP GOALS. The two of them are so close. They barely know each other in the beginning, but, by the end, they're best friends forever and ever and ever. They go through so much together. And they grow a connection because of it. And, the thing is, Aladdin is Alibaba's light. He saves Alibaba many times. Sure, this gets a bit awkward if Aladdin was, say, Alibaba's love interesting, but this anime pulls the friendship card. And this works really well. You get invested in their friendship. And you just want them to be together. Forever. And last, but not least, the best reason of all. 5) Cute boys. Yes, this is petty, I know. But still! These boys were very attractive. And that's a nice touch for a viewer. And I will now rate them on their level of attractiveness. The results are surprising. Numbah One: Ugo He's blue and cute. And really helpful. The first glimpse of him is deceiving, but his face is extremely attractive. Numbah Two: Hakuryuu I mean...brooding, distant prince is attractive. Plus, that scar, though. It reminds me of Zuko from 'Avatar: The Last Airbender'. Numbah Three: Alibaba Alibaba is awesome. He's cool even without his childish, chubby face. But the face tops things off. Numbah Four: Sinbad You're probably wondering why he isn't higher on this list. It's because UGO IS LIFE. Sinbad isn't that bad. He's really ripped, though. But you know...I like Romano and all. So.

MAGI: THE LABYRINTH OF MAGIC: Incredible world building, poor storytelling I saw a lot of potential as early as the first episode because the author did a good job on world building. The Magi world is just so huge that there is a lot of room for the story to branch out -- and it did branch out. It talked about the mysterious powers of djinns and magic in general; about political warfare that led to slavery, poverty, and death; about the rising Kou Empire and its diplomatic attempts to rise further into power; about the mysterious organization that wants to plunge the world into darkness. All of these are tackled in a mere twenty-five episodes -- and that’s not a good thing. That’s the main problem I have with the series. Everything is so fast-paced that it spoils the important moments. There’s not enough time to raise the tension, so every conflict feels to be resolved prematurely. The story is just too broad to be expanded in such a short period of time. And, I must add, that the story has been somewhat spoiled because of this. As for the characters, I must admit that I find them to be very well designed. Each character has its own unique aura and personality. However, the abruptness of the story is so problematic that it even fails to expand these characters’ depths well -- so most of them seem flat despite being uniquely designed. Aside from that, one of the main characters, Alibaba, has actions that are really not justifiable. His emotional tendencies are not established well, so they appear to be executed just to move the story further. Perhaps the redeeming factor of this series is really the imaginative world it has established. It is just so interesting that, despite the storytelling being awkward, I still continued watching, for I wanted to explore the incredible world before me. What makes it even more interesting is the fact that there are so many questions left unanswered in the season finale. It keeps me guessing. And it is further proof that the author did a good job in creating the fictional world. So, despite its flaws, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic is still a watchable series. It already has the raw material to be a great anime. The only thing that needs some improvement is the storytelling.

I'm not too sure how i missed this, being that i like many shounen anime, but i probably looked at the title, read the description and saw the cover and thought wtf is this at first i was pretty dubious that this would be some historical arabian nights thing, that was super lame and followed some sort of formula. But i was surprisingly wrong. while its not perfect and i found a number of faults with it, it still managed to be highly entertaining to me, and the new season just started so there's more interesting anime in the future. this may borrow elements of arab mythos but it goes its own way in typical japanese anime style. In fact, you will pretty much overlook the setting fairly quick once you get into it. The best part is the unpredicatbility that rolls in with the story, and the adventureous nature of it. The downside is that sometimes you just want the fighting to get on with it. in fact, i would have preferred a little slower pace which is rare for me. but well worth checking out, its definitely a hidden gem as far as im concerned

Aladdin, the Magi, learns about himself, the world, and how magic affects everyone. His destiny is intertwined with Alibaba and they plan to go on amazing adventures. This series involves magic and historical legends from Arabia. The setting does not correspond with our world because some of the characters existed in different time periods. The story starts with introductions and makes us believes it’s more of an adventure anime. But as the series progresses, the plot involves more of the characters’ history and how their past affects their beliefs and decisions. Art and animation does not seem serious and is even childlike at times. By childlike, I meant that they will draw the characters as silly shapes. But then there are also violent scenes such as stabbings. This doesn’t seem to fit well with the art direction. Each story arc receives more and more characters. It’s hard to follow who they are and why they are fighting or helping our protagonists. I guess the reason for so many spontaneous characters is to give a feeling of large adventures and battles, but that makes it difficult to follow the intimacy of their fights.

How can i explain this anime? It starts off with a servant boy named Alibaba meeting this cute little boy named Aladdin that loves women with big boobies and food and has a flute with his best friend in it,from there they meet Morgiana a slave girl with amazing powers. They each have secrets that are slowly revealed throughout the show. My problems with this anime were the main character,Alibaba tended to whine a lot but he did have probable cause to do so and how it ended. I won't tell you everything except it ended with new characters. My first thought was "they better have a season two or i will tell everyone this is a bad anime. " 2 seconds later Looked it up and found out there will be a second season. Other than not going into full character description, this was a really great anime. There was hardly any filler episodes and the opening and ending themes are really great and catchy. The animation was fast paced and flowed great. I think you will like this anime because i know i did.

I remember loving this when I first watched it. Rewatching it after my brain fully developed has really changed how I view it though. I forgot how much anti-war, anti-government, anti-oppression, and anti-racist sentiment there is. It's also so nice to see an anime that doesn't portray middle-eastern influences as "evil," like many other manga/anime has in the past. The only (somewhat funny) downside is that you can really tell what the author is sexually into (aka, chests lollll). At least it isn't as bad as like fireforce or something like that. At least it's not fanservice for the sake of fanservice, but fanservice that fits the perverted characterization of the main character, making a bit more sense with the story rather than randomly just showing stuff. I also wish there was a bit more variety in the skin tones of the characters. Still, the cultural representation is definitely better than others for when it came out.
