Ok this is probably a biased review but I quite like this Pokemon movie, just because the protagonist isn't Ash, which i find refreshing despite the fact Jimmy is still kind of annoying (but he's not as bad imo) and we also get some other characters like Marina and Jimmy in it too. The plot was okay for pokemon, just the average stuff. But my fave thing about this movie is the villians, Attila and Hun (with the help of Professor Sebastian). I like them the best because their personalities contrast yet they go so well together at the same time. The animation somehow looks worse than a usual episode but it's ok. overall i liked it.

Sure, it’s an interesting "movie," but that’s about it. This special tells a story that differs somewhat from what we’re used to seeing in Pokémon, largely due to the change in protagonist. Instead of following Ash and his crew on yet another adventure, we get a story centered on other characters, and, most importantly, on Raikou itself. I found this change quite interesting; even though it’s a simple shift, it makes the experience distinct from the franchise's traditional movies. The story revolves around the appearance of Raikou, a second-generation Legendary Pokémon and a member of Johto’s Legendary Beast trio, alongside Entei and Suicune. Raikou is an Electric-type Pokémon, and I’ve always felt it had a strong presence within Pokémon lore, so I enjoyed seeing a special dedicated to it. It’s an opportunity to explore this Legendary Pokémon a bit more and showcase its importance without having to share the spotlight with Ash and his companions. And that is perhaps what sets this special apart the most. In Pokémon movies, we’re accustomed to Ash being the center of the story, with the Legendary Pokémon appearing as part of a larger adventure. Here, the situation is a bit different. Since Ash isn't the protagonist, the focus shifts much more toward the Pokémon themselves and the events surrounding Raikou. This gives the Legendary Pokémon a much greater presence, allowing it to be treated as a significant creature within that world rather than just another powerful Pokémon showing up to take part in the protagonist's journey. I really liked that choice. Not necessarily because the usual characters are bad, but because Pokémon has a vast universe filled with interesting creatures, and sometimes it’s good to set the traditional protagonists aside to explore other stories. This special demonstrates that the franchise can work without relying entirely on Ash, which gives the production a unique identity of its own. The plot itself is relatively simple. It involves Raikou’s appearance, conflicts between characters, and that classic sense of adventure that Pokémon always delivers. It isn't an overly complex narrative, nor does it feature major plot twists that completely transform the experience, but it works well for what it sets out to do. It is a short, straightforward story that manages to develop its central conflict without unnecessary filler. I also found the special's resemblance to certain stories involving Legendary Pokémon, particularly the Lugia movie, to be interesting. There is that familiar concept of a legendary creature appearing and triggering a chain of events that draws in both humans and other Pokémon. While the structure might remind viewers of other entries in the franchise, this special manages to carve out its own identity, thanks largely to its focus on Raikou and the absence of the traditional main cast. Another strong point is the animation. For a production of this kind, it is good and pleasant to watch. The Pokémon feature expressive faces and fluid movements, the action sequences are competently executed, and the special effectively conveys Raikou's imposing presence. Obviously, it won't dazzle anyone accustomed to modern animation standards, but considering its scope and the era in which it was made, it works very well. On the other hand, I wouldn't call this special truly memorable. It is interesting precisely because it deviates slightly from the standard Pokémon formula, yet once it ends, the lingering impression is simply that of a cool adventure, nothing more. It lacks a significant impact or any standout elements that would keep the story in one's memory for the long haul. Ultimately, I recommend watching it, especially for fans of Legendary Pokémon who want to see a story that differs from the franchise's traditional adventures. Swapping the protagonist is a simple choice, yet it significantly alters the experience; the special's greatest merit lies in giving Raikou, and the Pokémon themselves, more room to shine. It is a competent, enjoyable production with an interesting premise, though it falls short of being one of the best Pokémon stories out there. It was fun to experience this adventure and see Raikou take center stage, but it is hard to walk away from it feeling anything more than "that was interesting." Rating: 6/10. Outro ponto positivo é a animação.
