Well this is the first anime in a while that’s driven me to watch it one episode after another until I eventually collapse into bed from exhaustion only to awake to do the same again. While it does make for wonderful viewing it can sometimes make a series hard to digest as your consuming the entire stream of the story rather than the "bite-size" pieces it’s usually served up in. It also works best with shows that have a continuous narrative as opposed to an episodic approach. Needless to say Kenichi has such a format and as such made for extremely enjoyable viewing. Story wise it’s a fairly basic spin on the classic shonen martial arts series. What really makes it appeal though is the interesting and appealing characterisation of the protagonists (and antagonists). Another huge appeal for me was the fact that in many ways the entire show could be seen as one long training session interspersed with bouts of action and character development side pieces. While this may not appeal to everyone (because some people are clearly deviant bastards) it really appeals to me. I really love those bits in martial art films, books, anime, etc. where after been beaten the hero goes of into the mountains or seeks out a reclusive master to learn new techniques and increase his power. In many ways such training scenes are as enjoyable for me as the fight scenes. And the more mental the training the better it is (e.g. Drunken Master). As Kenichi contains training nearly every other episode I really liked that facet of it as it mixed all my favourite martial art genre tropes into a nice cohesive whole. It's also quite an amusing show, though sometimes the jokes do require (fairly basic) knowledge of other fighting anime/manga series. I suppose the main downside to Kenichi is the fact that there are only fifty episodes in the first season and as the manga is still ongoing it’s clear that the story isn’t finished in these fifty episodes. Though it is a fully contained story arc and only one main plot thread is left open so while it leaves the viewer wanting more it certainly doesn’t leave them feeling cheated.

History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi is a Shounen, Action, Comedy about a typical high school boy (Kenichi) who’s always being bullied, until one day, he learns of a special dojo that teaches many forms of martial arts. Its a nice anime , and realistic too its not like bleach or naruto with beams or something its just good martial arts and a lot of fights i liked this anime , if u are wanting to watch a realistic epic fight anime than go watch kenichi.

What can we say people, this was a fighter anime at it's peak and should be respected as one. Now I know there are some who would disagree with my point of view saying that the anime "sucked," but that's the thing. This anime provided with humor and light romance with a lot of fighting. If you read the genre title you should know that this is martial arts anime which intends to live up to it's genre. We should know that this is going to be purely composed of outrageous fighting. Besides that, pure genius with some tasteful humor and character design (although somewhat cliche). I loved the action in here and the characters who just seemed to keep the surprises rolling. I give this a 9/10! PS: Apachai and Siegfried are hilarious, a must see!

It is different from other underdog. other MC have potential power Naruto has kyubi, Asta(black clover) has anti magic. But kenichi's only potential power is his kindness. Character and story development is good : *MC will motivating us *as a musician, there is 1 character with unique and funny fighting and talking style.(musical nerd) and there is so unusual ,make this anime my fav ever *the story is slow but i think the jokes always save this point i thing there is some other specials thing that i dont realize cuz i can enjoy it altough their animation isn't good The manga is finished and i always wait for the next seasons,

It combines funny characters with matial arts gang warring and a main character who starts out as naive and weak, but becomes naive and stong! The fighting goes from pedestrian to over-the-top, especially with Kenichi's 5 Martial arts masters. I fell in love with this show because the characters are so entertaining and and the story is very engrossing in a laid-back sort of way. Kenichi is a pathetic wimp who gets bullied in school. He meets a girl who lives at a dojo and she invites him to come to the dojo to train in martial arts. Little does he know, there are 5 masters at this dojo who all have inhuman skills in various martial arts. They train him until he is on the verge of death so he can become a strong martial artist as fast as possible. He attracts the attention of the local martial arts gang and has to take on their members throughout the show. If you like funny, happy, action-packed shows, then at least give this a try.

"Kenichi" was probably in the first 5 actual martial arts anime that i watched. At first it caught me off guard with the main characters appearance and background. After watching the first episode though i could tell a lot of time and effort was put into this creation, and couldn't help but watch more.In later episodes certain things are introduced expanding the character development even further, which is really nice to witness throughout the series. This has to be one of the most realistic martial arts anime give or take a few certain things.A lot of the characters are very easy to get attached to and enjoy while some you may have nightmares about(Appa)lol.Even though its a fighting anime it throws some comedy in to make it really enjoyable and entertaining. "Matsuena Syun" created something special that may very well keep the younger generation(maybe even older generations) informed and willing to attempt learning a style of martial arts, therefore passing down hundreds of years of knowledge and keeping it alive. The story is well put together with a twist here and there, keeping the viewer glued to the tv.Its well balanced and deserves way more than 50 eps IMO.

BEWARE! THE AWESOMENESS OF THIS ANIME IS TOO ADDICTING! YOU WERE WARNED!!! The anime follows the exploits of Shirahama Kenichi; your average student who's always bullied (thus earning him the nickname "Weak legs"). One fateful day, he meets Furinji Miu (a fellow student) who helps him overcome his fears and he begins training at the Ryouzanpaku Dojo under six exceptional martial artists..... Every episode will have you dying from fits of laughter; the gags aren't overused hence they never get old. The action and fight scenes aren't over-the-top (just the right amount of reality + unbelievable). Art style is pretty good, sounds used suit the situations and convey the feelings the animation's staff want to portray and a great storyline that won't leave you confused. In my view, the anime's strength lies in its characters and their development: varied, easy to relate to, humorous, interesting past etc. The makers paid close attention to these aspects (especially Niijima........I loved how they introduced him as an annoying pest and somehow managed to transform him into one of the funniest, likeable characters in the show). Downsides? Only a few: Odin's reason for fighting was absolute trash in my opinion. Sadly Kenichi and Miu's relationship never progresses past friends. Why did this anime have to end at episode 50? This aired in 06-07 and it definitely deserves A LOT more seasons. For those who cannot get enough of it, it continues at chapter 144 in the magna. I definitely recommend picking it up. All in all, it is shounen, martial arts masterpiece. It will grab you from the first episode and not let go; quickly getting you hooked........when it is over, you will definitely be craving for more...

The story is about a boy named Kenichi who's nicknamed "weak legs". Kenichi is often picked on due to his soft nature. The story doesn't seem like anything special at the beginning, however the story quickly starts to pick up and become exciting once Kenichi joins Ryozanpaku. After that we get introduced to a world filled with strong and interesting characters and obstacles Kenichi has to overcome. Through these tough experiences Kenichi makes friends, grows as a character and earns a reputation for himself. The way this series executes Kenichi's growth is exciting and well done. Despite the fact that Kenichi learns to fight for the purpose of getting these bully's off his back he manages to become infamous and gain the attention of even stronger enemies. I found it hilarious as Kenichi became more infamous the more enemies he defeated. The characters are one of the best aspect in this series. Ryouzanpaku's masters each have distinct and likeable personalities. It's heart warming to watch Kenichi bond with his masters on a personal level and watch characters friendships form and strengthen with one another as they each go through hardships together. Once enemies but now friends. This is one of the reasons I love this series so much. Each of the voices for the characters suit them perfectly and do a good job at complementing their personalities. The art is very colourful in this anime and the animation for the movements are well done. I personally love the opening and ending songs. They suit the series perfectly. I love feel good anime/manga which is why I like this series so much and the opening and credit songs do a good job capturing the feel of the series. This series is really enjoyable if you like martial arts, comedy, great fights and friendship. I definitely recommend this if you're looking for a fun series with great characters and a good story.

This was a very good anime. I read both mangas (Tatakae! Ryouzanpaku Shijou Saikyou no Deshi and HSD:Kenichi) and enjoyed them very much. The anime follows the story of the second manga. It has good story lines that are not too convoluted with a lot of filler. My only complaint is that there is plenty story to tell and the anime is only 50 eps. long. I mean there are long running animes out there that are too long for there own good, but I felt Kenichi could at least got a few more seasons.

After reading the synopsis you might think this is just another typical martial arts shounen, Boy gets stronger, fights for his friends, and at the end saves the day. Why in the world do i need to watch this?? Well it's rather simple. Let's start of with the story. As stated above the story is almost the same as any other shounen but he, that's what makes this a shounen. Nevertheless Kenichi is kinda different. He just doesn't have talent. Finally a protagonist that doesn't discover a hidden power and BAM owns the whole world. Nope Kenichi has put his heart and soul into the training for him to become a bit stronger. Maybe some impatient people dont like this but i think it's rather nice he needs to try his best and not everything is handed to him. Next stop, Art. The art in kenichi is pretty nice, but the female boobs are way to big. Those girl have got to have some serious back problems. This doesn't really bother me but i think some viewers may not like this. What gives Kenichi it's strenght are the characters. Kenichi is very lovable because of his strong willpower, This in combination with his lacking strenght gives a lot of funny moments. The rest of the masters of zanpaktou aren't really deep. Some episodes may be based around their background but dont expect to much. The reason they are here is to entertain the viewer(or so it seems). I think that while watching this anime i laughed more than while watching any other anime. Comedy definitly play a big role in Kenichi. In short. If your into watching anime where a boy struggles to get stronger under the supervision of a bunch of idiots Kenichi is definitly a YES!

The story is pretty predictable but still had some moments surprise. It started out pretty annoying but it gets better after the first few episodes. Good art style the anime was definitely better drawn then the manga. The visuals were probably the best part of the show. The characters were pretty well rounded although they seem pretty one dimensional at first most come and join the good side eventually. Most were pretty predictable because they all had some core principles they would not compromise on. This series really draws out some parts story. The last fight scene was like 5 episodes long and every time is seemed like it was over they added so new fight style and special move out of nowhere just to keep it going. Overall good show could have used more beach episodes.

Kenichi is a nice “Saturday-Morning” TV. It’s not really a great or good show but it does a fantastic job at passing dead time and opens you up to the benevolent underdog story and growth in character and friendship. The first 20 episodes or so are pretty… episodic and forgettable the show really doesn’t get any real entertaining juice until Nijimia shows up and starts propelling the show, I wouldn’t go as far to say he hard carries but he’s a huge focal point of driving the show. The show sometimes focuses too much on gags and it’s obviously directed for 16U audiences, but it still has good value. It is a mediocre show but it’s a nice mediocre.

A Girl in a trouble. The guy try to save her, but he's weak (more like amateur), but he'll still try. The girl is no ordinary girl. She's adorable, hot, and a great power backing her up. ---- She admires the guy for what he did, ignoring his weakness ; introduces him to her family. No ordinary family, not a bit. ---- Let's see him break his bones, work as a slave, his only motivation the ecchi pictures of his crush. Btw there's other hot milf too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Why this show is special to me?] -- Master-Disciple relationship (not in a weird way XD) -- Various Martial-Arts. (KARATE, CHINESE KENPO, NINJUTSU, MUAY THAI, MMA,...) -- Fair amount of Ecchi -- Protagonist has a crush on only one girl. -- Action-packed. -- I like them living like in a joint-family. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- *********SPOILERS (in the section below)********* ================================================================ STORY (9) : The story of a guy getting stronger with rigorous training daily whose very motivation is a girl with whom he is living under the same roof. It might sound good, but there's more to it than just living with her. It is full of ACTION, COMEDY, ECCHI, etc. There are various martial arts like KARATE, CHINESE KENPO, NINJUTSU, MUAY THAI, etc shown in the Anime. ART (9) : Art is classy & well-suited for Action genre. Fighting Animations are good. I really like the animation of their dojo which has a traditional feel to it. Since i like the overall anime, i will give it 9 instead of 8. It is likable is all i can say. SOUND (8) : The audio is loud, so i had to watch it in low volume. This is because, its a fighting anime. It might be tiring to many as it was for me. So, its good to watch in low volume. The OP song is decent , but i liked ED more than the OP. Also, the sound is especially loud during these songs. CHARACTERS (9) : I like strong characters & for that very reason, i decided to give it at least 8. KENICHI is shown to have well-mannered but coward personality. But it is his resolve that helps him grow stronger. He is shown to have lecherous fantasies, but that is mostly for MIU. MIU has a caring personality & she takes care of most basic things in the Ryouzanpaku, since it is her home. I like the Erotic MIU from KENICHI's fantasies. Every Masters of KENICHI are likable characters & have different personalities. AKISAME & SHIO are fatherly characters, APACHAI as a childish & friendly character, SHIGURE is a quiet master but has an erotic body, HAYATO who is known as "Invincible Superman". Each master is shown to have a heartwarming personality for KENICHI as their precious disciple. This is not a Romance Anime, but it is made clear in some episodes that KENICHI has a crush on MIU & he often pictures MIU in his fantasies. The side characters are also strong & comedic. ================================================================ ENJOYMENT (9) : It was really captivating for me, mostly due to the fact that i watched this Anime in 8-10 sits/sessions. Sometimes there was a feeling that it lacked something, which would be its story. For me, it was more romance element which i wanted to see. Either way, it was really entertaining. OVERALL (10) : SHIJOU SAIKYOU NO DESHI KENICHI Anime is blessed with Awesome Characters from which some of them are captivating, fairly good story & character development, long adventurous journey of 50 episodes. The heartwarming MASTER-DISCIPLE relations is very well shown in the Anime. Even if it isn't enough, there's rest of the manga which is really good. I watched this Anime in 8-10 sessions which is what i suggest you, as the pacing of some episodes might seem slow & can be quite boring. Thank You :)

I watched this a few years ago and had honestly forgotten about it (one of the perks of having a crappy memory I guess). It's not a bad show and since I've studied a variety of styles of martial arts it did have some appeal to me since that's something that is kinda considered bad form in most media. The backstory is pretty shite if I'm being honest, but the some of the basic aspects and philosophies of different martial arts styles all in one place without the pissing contest of rating which ones are better is rather refreshing. The comedy's not bad, even if it is pretty easy to see most of the jokes coming a mile away. The characters aren't the worst I've seen in the medium, although they can be a little simplistic, there's enough of them that you can overlook how surface level they can be. Overall, I thought it was decent, but nothing to write home about.

From zero to hero shounen anime is really an interesting plot in anime world. Well, yes, KenIchi does it well in terms of story, but not perfectly. As the synopsis above, we could see a weak young boy who even can't even protect a woman. The plot goes well, in each episode we could see that boy growing stronger, learning new technique, meeting his eternal rival (you know, shounen things), and ofc getting closer with that woman whom he can't even protect. Apart from having an interesting story with a probably-can-be-said a well written story, there's something which ruin the whole thing and wasting its potential, and it's the animation. The art can be tolerate because it's neither good nor bad, but the animation can't be tolerate, it's pissing me off personally. Why? I can't even tell is this colored manga or an anime from its fighting scene. The fighting scenes totally ruined the tense for me, because its animation is too annoying, by annoying i mean that only one frame for merely seconds, yes one frame. That's why i can't even tell whether i'm watching an anime or "watching" manga. I can't really recommend this for those who want to see a intense martial arts scene because the animation is so bad, but if you can ignore those things and just looking for the from zero to hero things, go ahead. You may see the comedy tag on this show, but the comedy isn't that hilarious, don't get your hopes too high.

A light-hearted action comedy that starts out relatively grounded and then dives into the impossible. The artwork overall is fair, some episodes are better than other, and occasionally you can tell the studio went in for the cheap so they could save up for more cinematic fights later on. The storyline is interesting, but gets ridiculous by the end. Still, I found myself watching just to see what kind of shenanigans would happen next. This is definitely geared towards a younger male viewing demographic. Some of the fan-service is ridiculous and bordering on uncomfortable, but I suppose it draws attention. Overalll, an enjoyable tale about self-respect, courage, friendship, and learning to stand on your own two feet.

This is anime is adapted from one of my favorite mangas. The plot is pretty simple, a weak and helpless young high school boy becomes an elite Martial artist under the guidance of six of the world greatest martial artist. He is introduced to ryouzanpaku, a world class dojo, by his classmate/love interest; where experts in jujitsu, Chinese kenpo, mauy tai, karate, and weaponry live. From the lovable Apachai to the intelligent Akisame (one of my top 10 anime characters of all time), the characters in the show will keep you laughing and enjoying the whole series. The fight scenes are really good too, second to none. I completed the manga that this anime was adapted from and it is amazing! The anime only covers over about 1/4 of the whole manga, which is a shame because the best part picks up after the ending of this anime. The OVA that follows gives you a close glimpse, but it still doesn't do justice to the manga so I can understand some peoples frustration with the anime. If I had not read the manga I would have probably ranked it an 7 or 6. If your an action fan, I highly recommend you watch the series and also read the manga, since the adventures get more exciting and dangerous. I really hope the remaining story line gets animated in the near future, I am sure many MAL users agree with me.

This show was surprisingly enjoyable. I'm no fan of shounen, and it is not a supreme masterpiece, but this anime manages to provide good comedy mixed with fighitng, and maintains good pacing throughout most of its episodes. Definitely recommended. Story: Good and fairly simple. Final conflict was a bit underwhelming, but the story mostly worked as a background for comedic plots and it worked for those purposes well. There's wide array of gags, running gags, etc. Art: Above average. Characters are a bit more detailed than what you'd usually see in anime with lower budget. There's barely any reused scene (i've spotted about two), characters are not cookie-cutter (visually). Sound: Decent music, solid voice work. I've recognized voices of Motoko Kusanagi (from GiS) and Yakumo Tsukamoto (School rumble). Characters: Characters are fairly stereotypical, but there's great deal of character development going on. Characters change over time, cheir personalities change as well, they grow stronger, etc. The interactions are mostly slapstic comedy (although it isn't very cliched on its own), but those interactions are amusing. Characters are memorable, for example, protagonists's sister was one of the most amusing "little sister" characters I saw. Protagonist steadily grows in strength and his character transforms along the way. Enjoyement: Near the end of the series where the series lost their momentumn and started stretching fights for too long. There weren't a lot of those, though. Overall I found it interesting to watch due to comedy element. Overall: It is 50 episodes, but the quality of series is surprisingly good. It does occasionally have darker sadder moment, but it does not obsess over them, and is mostly on lighthearted side. There are better animes, of course, but there's not THAT many of them, and this anime works great when you need to relax/unwind. So, recommended.
