Having watched the OVA of ROD, most of us then embark on the TV series, and it's better than some reviews would have you believe. In a sea of moe-blobs or tsunderes, this show stands out as being a little bit quirky but easily accessable. Naturally, it's a little bit fanciful, but contains a bit of drama and relationship struggles with some comedy and action. Probably not the top of your list but I'd recommend it when you get the chance.

Initially, I was skeptical about this anime. I wasn't impressed by the art and the story didn't seem to promise much; I thought it was just about some book-lovers who have the ability to use papers fighting against normal bad guys or other paper users. I watched the first episode and I didn't feel like watching any further. But out of boredom, I just did. And man, after a few more episodes, I could not stop watching more episodes. ROD the TV revolves around three sisters who use their ability to use papers (as bow and arrows, flying medium, sharp knife, etc) to do detective work as their means of living (and yes, buying more and more books, since they are obsessively fond of books). They met Sumiregawa-sensei whom they are paid to guard and who was a good friend of the legendary paper-user agent Yomiko Readman ("The Paper"). As the story unfolds, you'll realize that there is more than meets the eyes. It is an interesting, enjoyable anime to watch though not without some flaws. Like I said, the art failed to impress me, although credit could be given to the smoothness of the movements and the clear colours of the anime. Most of the times I was rather bothered by the disproportioned body parts of the characters. There were also some subtle prejudices in terms of the portrayal of the leadership and humanity of people from different countries. The characters leave nothing much to like either. Still, it has a curious plot in that one would not have much foreseen what is really in store for them further in the story. And that itself is enough reason for it to be worthy of being rated at overall 7.

ROD gives me an impression of creativity, using paper as a weapon, clothes and practical stuff is impressive. also having these characters like anita to find a family in the likes of michelle and maggie. nenene for trying to find the precious person that keeps her inspired and also for yomiko and nancy who in spite of their clumsiness still charms the viewers. i like this anime because of its story, action scenes and unexpected love story between friends

Not sure why some people are so obsessed with the OVA, I find The TV to be a much better show. I like the antagonist more, I like protagonists more (tbh I wasn't really a big fan of Yomiko so her being a side character didn't really bother me). The OST is criminally good but same is true for the OVA. The animation gets more rough somewhere in the middle, but it's still decent. The story had ups and downs, I find the ending to be a bit naive, but wouldn't say that's an issue considering nature of the show. The characters are the best part, I was a big fan of Nenene and paper sisters. I get why people wanted more of Yomiko, but personally I didn't see much in her other than her obsession with books, I don't think she'd carry a full TV show as an MC. My only complaint really is the setting itself. It is implied at certain points that a written story can be turned into real life events, which is a cool concept that in my opinion wasn't cultivated enough. Countermeasures against paper were inconsistent - of all paper users only paper sisters were suffering from the paper getting wet. Overall, it's a good show and it was very enjoyable to watch. The story is decent, the setting is fine but could be better, the characters are great and the OST is fantastic.
