Is that you, Loch Ness Monster? Well, here we have essentially a hot spring special episode, complete with that classic "test of courage" where the characters go looking for a supposed ghost. It’s an extremely common trope in comedy and slice-of-life anime, so, at first glance, there isn't exactly anything groundbreaking here. The premise is simple and follows a formula we’ve seen countless times: a remote location, ghost stories, characters trying to scare each other, and, eventually, an unexpected situation involving the ghost in question. Despite that, I think the episode works precisely because it relies on the characters, rather than the situation itself, to make things entertaining. And that is something Mikakunin de Shinkoukei does very well. Even when the story deals with rather clichéd scenarios, the cast manages to give each moment its own unique personality, mainly through their interactions and exaggerated reactions. The humor helps a lot, too. I wouldn't say this episode features absurd comedy or will have you laughing out loud the whole time, but there are plenty of little jokes and silly moments that fit perfectly with the show's laid-back vibe. Personally, I really liked how the episode doesn't try to turn the hot spring and test-of-courage themes into something epic; it simply embraces the fun, everyday nature of the situation. And perhaps that’s exactly what makes the episode so enjoyable. The idea of hunting for a ghost during a test of courage is a cliché, but the way the characters handle it manages to shake off that feeling of watching "more of the same." Their personalities end up being the main draw, and some of the reactions and situations are genuinely cute and funny. I also really liked the atmosphere. It captures that classic anime special episode vibe, with the characters in an unfamiliar setting, enjoying a trip and sharing more laid-back moments with one another. It’s a simple concept, yet it evokes a sense of nostalgia—especially for fans of this type of comedy episode, where the main goal is simply to place the characters in a new situation and let their chemistry drive the story. Ultimately, I don’t think it’s a particularly memorable episode, nor does it do anything especially creative with the premise. The script is straightforward, the haunted-house mystery isn't exactly fascinating, and the episode succeeds more thanks to the cast's interactions than the actual events unfolding. However, I don't see that as a major issue. The intention here seems to be providing lighthearted, funny, and cute moments rather than telling a truly complex story. All in all, it was a cute, funny, and nostalgic episode. It didn't reinvent the wheel and likely won't go down as one of the series' highlights, but it was entertaining, and that’s exactly what I was hoping for. The banter and character dynamics were enough to make a trope as clichéd as a "test of courage at a haunted inn" enjoyable to watch. Rating: 6/10. Nota: 6/10.
