A really nice work of anime storytelling. There are no less than 5 romantic subplots woven into the story -- two with love triangles. Add to that 3 or 4 rivalries, and you have an action packed drama that you won't be able to escape from until the last episode. I liked the series mostly for the drama and character interactions. Because of the length of the series, you get to know all the characters of GekkoState pretty well, which was nice. You also get to know many of the other characters, including various villains, pretty well too. This is why Eureka Seven stands out as a great story. The story has a lot of space age war violence, yet it deeply explores an anti-war theme. This complexity adds to the quality of the show overall. I thought this was well done too. Praise aside, aspects of this series can be frustrating at times. The "science" of the world is never explained at all, leaving you constantly wondering how the LFOs work, how the weapons work, how ANYTHING works. We go through the first 26 episodes without really understanding the true nature of this strange world, and what it is all about. This was a true oversight. I am not sure if is because it spanned a total of 4 seasons -- perhaps episodes 27 - 50 were written at a later time. Season 3 (episodes 27 - 40) does a good job of explaining the true nature of the world the story takes place in. Ultimately though, the "rules of the world" are pretty fluid and seemed to change especially towards the end of the story. This was not good.

There comes a time in ones life where the entirety of their being becomes imbibed into a certain element extraneous from the mundanities of reality; Welcome to the world of Eureka 7 First off I want to say that this is my favorite anime. I've yet to watch anything else that pars in "the feels" department. Overall the story, to me, was perfect and the music, sound and characters ? Well above today's current standards. Ok, so EUREKA 7, it is about a boy, Renton Thurston, he is an ordinary boy yet he is not. Renton Thurston is the son of Adrock Thurston, Adrock was a hero who created the Nirvash, the Nirvash is a Mecha Unit that served as one of the military's prized fighting units. Renton Thurston lives with his Grandpa in a shoddy, run-down, perpetuating complacency kind-of town but wants out. Renton's young, 14 in fact, and aspires to become a famous lifter and a part of a renegade, anarchist group called Gekko State, Renton wants to be just like the leader of Gekko State Holand Novak. One day a strange serendipitous calamity occurs in Renton's town, disrupting the town's quiesce, a beautiful green haired girl in the Nirvash Mecha Unit appears. Renton decides to board with this mysterious girl, after being requested to do so, he then finds out that this girl is associated with the Gekko State and down the road continues to extricate more mysteries. I don't want to spoil the anime, I highly suggest watching the English dub over the Japanese one - I know what you're thinking and I thought that, too but the voice actors and agency did an amazing job and you can tell how much love and fastidious care was put in; The dub is extremely fluid and all the characters have charm, there's also a lot of visual content that would be lost if reading the subtitles and that would heavily detract from the experience. To me this anime is a transcending ride, you experience the phases of a coming-of-age boy and those around him in the most awesome scenario ever (as a renegade, fighter, lover of a female pilot, friend of the coolest cohorts, son of a hero and more) - also Renton is just the effing man, he's a protagonist you actually like straight off the bat, he is someone a good person can relate to and he is a great rolemodel in my opinion. Do watch this series, I implore you. The quality in all aspects is unmatched. It is entertainment at it's best. The music is gorgeous and ferocious, the characters fantastic and hearty, the baddies are bad and not cliche. The story is ... the quintessential experience of the love phases and battles of adversity at it's finest. DO watch this series, I implore you. DO watch this series, it is fantastic, the soundtrack is mind-blowing, the character d

I hadn't watched Eureka Seven since I was 10 when it aired on Cartoon Network At 10:30. My bed time was ten. I would do what ever I could to stay up and watch it. Until my older brother convinced my mom that it is a inappropriate show. I recently decided to rewatch. It only took like 4 days for me. All I can say is it was the best decision in my life. It is honestly a absolutely AMAZING show!!!! Between the wonderful animation, Love able characters, beautiful storyline. And even just the happy feeling that it leaves in you. Eureka seven earns a perfect 10

10/10 - Anime I'm going to keep this one short since everyone here has an essay it seems on this anime. Watching this when I was 12 years old on cable I was intrigued only by the Mecha that was showed and the cool fight scenes since I was born in the Gundam Seed Era. Rewatching this series about 3 times over, I must say it is my favourite series for a number of reasons. The mecha is obviously just a front for the themes of post-adolescence, overthrowing the government and hopeless romanticism. The reason why most people love this series is the relationship between the main characters Renton and Eureka. It is a very typical tale of romance weaved between 50 episodes of constant action, plot, and very little fillers - but when the fillers are fillers they are always enjoyable (soccer episode) and make you fall in love with the characters to an even further extent. The boy is Renton, the hopeless romantic whom is desperately in love with Eureka (the girl) from the first episode of the series. He goes through what many guys go through - being in the friend zone, not knowing if he should hold her hand, and general awkwardness. Eureka on the another hand, is a archetypal Rei Ayanami, short blue hair, pale skin, red/purple eyes, who is cold and somewhat emotionless in the beginning for the series, unaware of Renton's unrequited love. Through character development of Renton's mental psychological transformation from boy to man "You're gonna carry that weight" he is constantly looked down upon from his higher-uppers and feels the need to always be better at piloting his mecha to save the world (this isn't as cheesy as it sounds). On top of all of this, the secondary romances between the crew of Gekkostate and the soundtrack are very, very good - it basically made me fall in love with Japanese music. In the end, if you're looking for an anime that is cute and lovey-dovey tinted with unrequited love (but finally gets the girl in the end of course) and also is filled with great action scenes (pink clouds of explosions inspired by GS/GSD) then this is for you. Imagine a Code Geass, but much much better without the cocky Lelouch and a love story, and better animations and actual comedy - yes I went there Code Geass fans. In general this anime probably takes features from all the greatest genres and puts them into something unforgettable, and worth rewatching every summer. The Summer of Love.

this anime has actually now taken the spot as my number one favorite, now right above code geass, while i admit the anime is a tiny bit slow at first it is all worth it, first 25 episodes really builds the characters and plot while the last 25 episodes are just a fantastic joyride, at times the story is a bit confusing because certain pieces are only revealed later on, the entire storyline was so well planned that it really felt well...real, it was an entirely immersive experience that literally made me cry when it was over because i knew that my journey was over...at least with these characters for now...eureka 7 AO here i come!

I absolutely loved this fresh and interesting coming of age story in which the main character deals with not only a first love with a strange girl, but braty kids, corrupt government, being an orphan to a national hero, surfing the sky in huge human-form ships (like Escaflowne), Aliens, death, racism, and childhood heroes letting you down, all while trying to save the World!! Beautifully written characters and story that keep you watching over and over again. Gotta say, the visual metaphors for sex, virginity, and vagina (long hallways with peculiar designed door at end, holding a giant lotus flower inside... hmmm). Also, in episode 21 when Renton stared into the empty potato chip bag, broke my heart.

I never doubted Eureka Seven even once. It starts off really fast, introducing you to an action packed mecha anime entwined with a possible love sove story. Now you might think, wow, 50 episodes, i dont want to sit through that. In fact, from what i can remember, there are no fillers, every episode has a purpose. I Give Eureka Seven a 10 in all catigories. The animation is great, one of the best iv seen, Sound is awsome, it always sets the mood and drags you into the moment. All the Charecters are complex, and you will continually learn new things about each and every one of them till the very end. The story is AWSOME. I wont tell you what it is, or tell you if its a happy ending. but the way it ends and the way it builds up to that point from the very begining could not have been done any better. If you like anime in general i highly suggest giving Eureka Seven a chance.

where can i start...first time it aired in japan i was like 'not interested in mecha and boring stuff' after some months i seen the very first ep by coincidence airing in our tv and i deceided to watch..after the first episode i was hooked because i want to know how it continue and got all of them lol there were alot of moments where i was sad and cried..or happy and cried also. im build near the water u can say..very emotional nature and this anime is totaly in my list of prefered style. my point of view is more the philosophical way of humans beeing together with themselfs and nature, so it gives me the extrakick. as i heard that song in the last episode silently sneak in i couldnt believe my ears..it was the same song i got from a friend many weeks ago and i liked it..sounds spherical (just the singing is a bit annoying ) i was instantly in a rush of happyness! thats it from me makes no sense to tell more...the one whos interested will see what im talking about..(maybe :P) ps: was my first preview

I like this for many reasons like love ,drama ,comedy and most of all adventur. It offers exitment and romance. There are many other reason but I don't want to get in details. But I really recomend this anime because it one of those anime that just has everything that anyone would love. It has a good story line unlike some anime in todays time like love hina. In some part of the show it gets really sad but on others it gets really happy or romantic I'm not going to tell you how but all i'm going say is it's really good so just watch and find out your self. P.S. If you have an anime you want me to draw I'm taking offers just send me your email address at gregcho123@gmail.com or just send me friend request and ill exept

eureka seven was one of the series i could not wait to watch as it made it's way to dvd. all the characters have a point and is fun too watch. the story is the only small weakness by it was not clear to 100% way the main bad guy went threw all he did and why.it is a minor point and does not hurt it to much. the music was great and stay with the series nicely. the art work was a little new to me by the trappers (waves in the sky) but i enjoy it all! go out and watch it now! just me:)

Eureka Seven is to mecha what Cowboy Bebop was to sci-fi anime: A rich collection of characters and cultural references looking both east and west, while telling a good story in the process of challenging the trivia nerds among us. Eureka and Renton are immensly likable, while Anemone is disturbing on a lot of levels. The rest of ensemble is not as well developed, except for the Beams', Holland, Norb, and Dewey. The characters, mecha, and overall enviroment are all superbly designed, but mechs on 'surfboards' do strain crediability just a bit. The music is excellent, lending a lot to the atmosphere of what is already a very atmospheric show. If Eureka Seven has a drawback, its the plotting. The story, epic in many ways, takes nearly 15 episodes to really get going, and doesn't really take off until the half-way point, which can turn off the less paitent anime fan. A must for mecha fans, and generally recommended for anime fans in general.

What can I say about Eureka Seven, well it brings all things that were good in Robotech like mechs with niirvash being the oldest know LFO and the best. The charters are really good and the storyline is superb, however I having grown attached to the charters I get annoyed with Holland charter as his just not suited to being a nice guy an I always feel sorry for Talho for actually loving Holland unconditionally when she could do better. Renton is quite cool and you can not help but like the kid and wish he kick Hollands ass for treating him like crap. If you watch any two Manga series then this is the one to watch besides Bleach because they invoke such a range of emotions and you will not help your self but feel for all the characters plus they both transcend generations so old or young you will enjoy every minuet.

*Spoilers~ Have you ever wondered what it would be like it living with a bunch of middle aged hipsters turned terrorist as a young teenager with Stockholm syndrome? Wonder no more. Eureka Seven is the age old of tale of reckless youth, expectations, and truly finding ones self. Renton, a wayward youth bored of his simple life, is lured into the glamorous world of lifting when the Gekkostate comes to his small town. With promises of fast hover boards and faster women Renton is quick to trade his old mundane life for a promising new one. However, all is not as it seems and Renton quickly discovers the Gekkostate hides many dark secrets. Holland, the leader of the Gekkostate, uses hallucinogenic drugs, violence, and extortion to control the rest of the crew in a cult-like manner and it is revealed the Gekkostate is really an anti-government terrorist cell. Trapped with no way out, Renton finds himself the victim of constant abuse with his only escape being when he is able to confide in Eureka, another young member on the Gekkostate who he develops feelings for. Renton is forced to make the difficult choice of trying to escape his new found prison or fight to save the girl he loves. At least, that is my headcanon. In the future terrorism has a new face. No longer is it exclusive to extremist, unless you include the extremely rad, terrorism is now done by the trendy and hip. Bombings are traded in for sick hover board tricks and beheading videos are traded in for pop culture magazines made to inspire the youth to rise up and join the cause. This premise is stupid and I hate it. However, since I am also stupid and hate myself I decided to watch Eureka Seven anyways, and it ended up being not the worst thing in the world. One of my favorite aspects of Eureka Seven is just how bizarre it can be. There are mecha that ride hover boards and transform into race cars and sometimes jets. There are aliens that look like balloon animals that eat people. There are even plants that look like cute girls. Truly there is some wacky shit going on in this universe. Unfortunately Eureka Seven does a poor job of balancing its many themes and ideas. Instead of taking the time to focus on any one of its more interesting concepts, the story tends to introduce them just so they can be promptly ignored for the sometimes cute but generally tedious relationship drama between the two main characters Renton and Eureka. This seems to be a product of simply too many things shoved into one story which isn't helped by the uneven pacing that can make the interesting aspects of the series seem underdeveloped while making the less interesting aspects more of a slog to get through. I really would have preferred to learn more about certain characters and plot threads rather than sitting through more sappy romantic dialogue. Another issue brought about by the many conflicting story elements in Eureka Seven is the inconsistent tone. Switching between slice of life, romance, and war drama makes for some jarring transitions. One episode will have Renton and Eureka go through a minor relationship problem while the next episode will have people's arms getting ripped off. Characters sometimes even lose all internal logic and consistency in the same dialogue interaction going from "This is a serious operation!" to "WoAh loOK aT tHat WavE bRo, LEt'S LIft!". I believe the series would be vastly better had it focused on just one angle. The characters of Eureka Seven are a complicated thing, as I think they are potentially the best and worst thing about the series. Renton, the protagonist of the series, is a likeable guy. After seeing Eureka he falls in love with her for anime reasons and decides to throw everything away and join the Gekkostate just to be with her. Despite Renton's questionable reasoning abilities, which plagues him throughout the series, he is hard working, driven, and always tries his best regardless of how poorly he is treated. Being a teenager and a mecha protagonist however Renton still has his mandatory angst arc, but it's not as annoying as say, Amuro from Mobile Suit Gundam or Shinji from Neon Genesis Evangelion as Renton actually has some legitimate reasons to be upset. Eureka is the token dandere of the series and is, as mentioned before, the main love interest. Though she doesn't stand out much the story explanation for her dandere personality traits are well written and believable enough. The rest of the Gekkostate are, for the most part, giant cunts. Imagine the most obnoxious hipster stereotypes you can and then turn them into anti-government terrorists because that is essentially the crew of the Gekkostate. First off, most of these degenerates are far too old to be acting the way they do and they come off as those creepy middle aged people that hang out at parties with teenagers. Needless to say I wouldn't trust any of them around small children, especially Hap and Stoner. Second, they are just mean spirited people as they treat Renton like garbage despite his best efforts to be useful to them. They constantly haze him, use him for bitchwork, and use him as a scapegoat when it suits them and all for no reason other than he is the new guy I guess. This can be difficult to watch considering Renton appears to be the hardest working and most decent member among an otherwise unorganized, unmotivated, and unprofessional hippie cult turned anti-government terrorists. The biggest offender however has to be the Gekkostate's leader, Holland. Holland is an ex-military man who deserts after some psychic homeless man tells him to rethink his life. It turns out that the homeless man is the leader of some plant cult and impressed by his telekinesis Holland forms the Gekkostate and becomes a raging asshole who is unable to accept any responsibility for anything. Instead, Holland takes his anger out by abusing Renton either physically or mentally while other members of the Gekko just stand by and watch. Holland eventually becomes slightly less psychopathic in some poor attempt at a character arc as we learn the reason he is so cunty is because of his jealously of Renton being chosen by Eureka instead of himself. To say the justifications for any of these characters' actions towards Renton fall short is an understatement as they all just come off as disgustingly selfish. I guess I should applaud the show for it's realistic portrayal of how bad a bunch of radical hipsters would be at anything useful, but really I was just expecting Renton to say "Don't go to Gekkostate tomorrow, some of you are cool people...". Standing in stark contrast of the Gekkostate are the freelance mercenaries Ray and Charles who are arguably the best characters in the entire series. Both use to belong to the same special forces group that Holland did and it is implied through flashbacks that they all share a rich history together but yet again it just doesn't get much focus. However, what is important is Charles, the disco king, is manly as fuck and equally benevolent. Together the both of them take in a disillusioned Renton when he abandons the Gekkostate about midway through the series. In that time, Renton discovers what family is as Ray and Charles treat him with the gentle and loving kindness that the Gekkostate never did. And here is one my biggest points of contention with the series, Renton decides to go back to the Gekkostate seemingly forgetting all of their transgressions or just accepting it because writing is hard. It would be one thing if he was just going back for Eureka as is initially implied but he ends up staying with them for rest of the series as if nothing had ever happened. Luckily most of the remaining characters are fairly logical and well reasoned individuals as the story also follows the military as they chase down the Gekkostate. The main two being Dominic and Anemone who are foils to Renton and Eureka albeit with a slightly healthier or unhealthier relationship depen…

Eureka Seven in one word, is beautiful. Among many other anime out there, maybe it won't stand out too much at first glance. But as everyone knows: gems are hidden rarities which need some digging to face the surface. Or that's how I feel about all this. For me, after reading the synopsis and seeing Eureka's pretty mint hair (don't you just love it?) I decided I really wanted to watch this show, but never did I expect for it to be this special... Well, let me begin. What I like the most about Eureka Seven is its mood. It's so calming, peaceful, bittersweet... Even in its darkest moments E7 has this soft feeling to it, this is what E7 is about. Sorrowful, very sorrowful and so beautiful. E7 feels like a soft embrace with all the emotions it's got packed, it's a story made to resonate with our souls... E7 has also this strong feeling of nostalgia in it, you'll feel nostalgic even right after you finish it. I think this has to do with how it "resonates with the soul" like I said, which links us to the characters. Eureka seven's strength comes from its characters. They are all quite round, which is a thing we all sometimes long for in shonen-ish shows like this one. Their personalities are portrayed well by the things they go through, as you watch them respond, act and grow you start to understand them. They all face difficulties, decisions that must be made... They hesitate and change the way we do. What makes this so powerful is the emotional portrayal of these characters, you can see and feel how Eureka's in pain just because of her identity, how Holland is angry at himself and bursts this onto others while knowing he's being stupid... You get the idea. Character relationships are also greatly thought out, they aren't superficial but complex as they should be. Eureka Seven has an overall nice pacing. You get a better understanding and dive into the story as things are revealed, and you grow more curious of the next episode. The world building is quite fun, we're talking about sky-surfing (reffing) humanoid robots here. The Coralians and the Vodarac were great as well, I love the philosophical stuff behind all of them. And the desperation disease was a nice concept overall, I love what they did with it in the end. The story starts out with a cliched beginning. Your typical shonen character (with a mysterious past?) longing for adventure... But it goes way beyond that, as Renton discovers things aren't as fun or nice as he thought. Little by little the secrets get unveiled, the dark and the sorrowful come into surface. It has a lot of intense moments and has a powerful build up to its climaxes. The character arcs are satisfying to watch, especially Rentons rebellious escape from the Gekkostate. Sound & Animation The animation was good overall, might not be the best one out there but definitely fits well with the story. The colors had a soothing effect just like E7 itself. The soundtracks and OP&EDs were the best they could be, absolutely enjoyed them to the fullest. The soundtrack was rich and impactful while the OP&EDs catchy and well fitting. I started out with the subs (cause that's what I generally watch) but switched to the dubbed one later on. And I wasn't disappointed! Though the subbed one wasn't bad, I feel their voices fit better in the dubbed one. (Especially Renton) Overall as you can see I enjoyed Eureka Seven a lot, it felt quite special. There aren't major problems with the show as I can spot them, some fillers were kind of out of the place like right before the major climax though. (Yet I laughed a lot at the misunderstandings in the "Renton wanting to be a dad" episode) This was my first review here on MAL so thanks for reading! I felt I needed to write a review particularly for Eureka Seven... Normally my score: 9 +extra points for the enjoyment Final score: 10 (9.5)

~Spoiler Free~ This is a show with some of the best world building I have seen, it will take you to many places and the characters always change or learn something every time they continue along with their goals. Keeping it short and sweet the two main characters are adorable and adolescence is shown here and it grows on that focus, many people missed out on this show as its more relatable to the younger crowd and its a good intro to anime since it offers more then these current 12 episode anime made for monetary reasons. I hope you enjoy this anime, and don't be afraid to share this with friends who haven't seen an anime or don't know where to begin because this is a good start!

Whenever you (re-)watch this show, keep in mind this phrase: Boy meets Girl. That's the essence of the show, its central thesis. You might not find it as interesting as "a bunch of ragtag rebels fight against a massive military power with surfing robots", or you might object to the inevitable brooding teenager in the dumps because he hasn't had a good conversation with the girl of his dreams in weeks. They might drift apart, they might even fight and split up, only to miss one another, seek one another, and end up back together stronger than ever. That's youth. That's teenage life. That's Eureka Seven. All right, to be fair, not every teenager gets to ride an obscenely powerful giant robot. Renton, you lucky bastard. The story is beautifully planned and executed, although it tends to take a back seat to Bones' artistic influences or interesting if unorthodox perspectives on life and the universe. One episode took quite the wild tangent away from the main story for no other reason than "Well, it was fun, wasn't it?" The second cour did tend to drag (as did the third), but it builds up to a mini-climax scene in Morning Glory. If you didn't go "Yes!!" at that scene, well... I'm sure there's something out there you'll enjoy more. The "mirror" characters of Eureka and Renton start as antagonists, but they have a journey of redemption of their own, a fantastic sequence that culminates in another fan favorite episode, Ballet Mécanique. While the writers take their sweet time and scenic routes, the plot threads weave their way through the show without feeling like a soap opera, and the climaxes to the story arcs are well worth the wait. Other studios can learn from Bones' idea for making a summary episode: Half of the episode is a counterculture news report by Stoner, and the other half is a military report by Dominic, with heavy influences from Gainax shows like Evangelion. This was miles ahead of how a lot of big studios did it at the time-- Sunrise would just have the ship captain's voice actress narrate over clips, and SAO's version was also a report, but the flashbacks are basically recycled from the show proper. In Eureka Seven, Bones did a great job of making those clips seem as though they were in fact part of the reports-- we get a better sense of the world after seeing what has happened thus far through Renton's eyes. The down side is that, well, the editing may have taken longer than other episodes. I like it when a studio gets creative with episode titles, and just about every episode title is the title to a song. And it's not like the song titles are there just because someone at Bones liked the song-- some of the titles are repeated to indicate important turning points in the story, others offer strong hints to the feel of the episode, still others are dead giveaways. Just about every giant robot show involves guns of some form, missiles, and jet/rocket propulsion. This show made the idea of robots surfing on waves of "light particles" believable, without making it seem like a shonen manga gimmick. Better yet, this is even like snowboarding or skateboarding, it's both a sport and a means of transportation. While Naoki Sato isn't the musical mastermind known as Yoko Kanno (he went on to write the score to NHK's hit "Taiga fantasy", the live-action Seirei no Moribito series), he still demonstrates a wide range of styles, among them straight-ahead rock, electronic, modern classical (film score), and reggae. A good composer creates atmosphere with music, and his music captures the moments perfectly-- at times, evoking the wide world around Renton, at times depicting fierce combat, at times reflecting the desperation of the scene or a character moving forward despite dire circumstances. And if memory serves, he did all this with a keyboard and a computer, meaning he uses a fantastically good instrument library and took full advantage of its dynamic range. The Japanese title translates to "Symphonic Psalms Eureka Seven", and I think that's not a bad way to describe the series. It's like a good classical symphony (albeit on the long side, kinda like Mahler or Wagner), only with fantastic animated drama and giant robot combat.

I had been wanting to watch a good action-romance anime for a while now, and while there are lots of them that I could have chosen from, Eureka Seven caught my eye. I decided to watch this show after watching a youtube video by Gigguk about what's been the greatest thing anime has done in his eyes (or something along those lines.) In the video, he shows a clip of The two leads-Renton and Eureka-embracing. I then came on here after finding the title in the comments and found that I already had this Anime in my Plan to Watch section. 50 episodes later, and I'm glad to say that this show was fantastic. Story: 7- The story is good for the most part. The beginning was really good at setting up the world and the characters in it well. It has its ups and downs, but it never really slows down to a sudden halt at any point. But the plot starts to get a little confusing near the end, and it kind of lost me(But I'll chalk that up to me watching the episodes late at night). Art: 8- The art was really well done. Bones did an excellent job with animating this show. The action scenes are done really well and backgrounds were very good as well. The character designs were good but were iffy sometimes. All the characters have about the same sized eyes, which I enjoyed because they didn't look too goofy. But sometimes when the eyes would be off center at certain angles and oh boy did it stand out. But it only happened ob=nce or twice, so it didn't take away from the experience. Sound: 9- The sound design and songs were fantastic. I watched the show dubbed, and it was pretty good, making me happy to take a break from keeping my eyes glued to the bottom of the screen to read the subtitles. The music was amazing, with a lot of powerful and emotional scores, as well as softer more lighthearted scores with soft electric beats in them. The first OP and ED are my favorites. Characters: 8- The characters are really diverse and relatable. Renton and Eureka are good protagonists and develop their personalities and relationship really well throughout the series. Holland and Talho are Good secondary characters, both funny and badass, while also commanding authority when need be. The supporting cast is good and mostly all of them get a little bit of time in the spotlight. My one complaint with them, the characters seem to have major mood swings. one minute they're mad at someone or crying, the next it's all happy and the problem suddenly disappears. That's one of the real problems I had with the anime. Enjoyment: 9- This series had me hooked. I was glad to have the feeling of wanting to continue watching, to see what would happen next. It finally helped me scratch that itch of action-romance and had characters that I really did care about. Even when I was slightly confused as to what was going on with the plot near the end, I enjoyed every minute of this anime. Eureka Seven was an anime that was a heck of a ride. Although its over, this anime will have a special place in my heart...and my favorites list here on MAL.

Eureka seVeN Story - 8: There is a great philosophy behind this anime. Not only "Don't beg for things, do it yourself, or else you won't get anything." There is also the philosophy that your idols can actually be very different from what you expect outside of their publicity. Those two ideas can make you much comfortable about the world if you choose to follow them. The power in Eureka seVeN's story is showing these two lessons with Renton who constantly finds himself in a world where he is pushed around. You can feel just how uncomfortable it would be to change your life in his situation, but we learn that being held back for a long time makes us more eager to let go and chase what you really want. Because of that fact, the adults around Renton have less of a drive to push forward and do something amazing that would save the world. The Gecko is the 'terrorist' organization that Renton is an idol of. Everything involving them is symbolic with the disappointments of being controlled by the system of politics and such things, despite them being freedom fighters of a sort. The team is stuck within rigid guidelines, but they put their own flair on each day with very impressive teamwork which allows them to pull off impossible stunts time and time again. The reason to detract points is that these subliminal elements are hard to recognize for a lot of people. Not only that, but the plot often loses a sense of why everything is happening. The plot is subtle and rather empty because there are a lot of loose ends that did not feel like they gave you enough to speculate with. Art - 8: The art of Eureka seVeN is the most lush and gorgeous in color and lighting you will ever see in an anime. The often simple character designs are great canvases for the bright colors and it would have been disappointing if the character designs were more complex. When ever you see the refboards in action, it is really a treat. Unfortunately, the humanoid robot designs are really too bland and the car transformations are far from bad, but only the Nirvash looks memorable. However, the neat thing about these robots is that they are half organic and they bleed. It makes for effective gritty art and I feel like it adds to the character of Anemone later on. There are also the 'antibodies' near the end, which look very nice and fearsome at the same time due to their very good animation. Speaking about animation, it is unfortunately very sub-par for the most part. You can tell when something has good animation when the motion in a certain scene almost feels like you are doing it yourself. This never happens and the animation often feels like it fell short of its intended expression. The openings and endings are almost perfect in their art style. Really emotional and rousing with all of the openings and each of the endings are truly touching mainly due to the art. Sound - 9: The soundtrack is varied. You might enjoy having a CD of all the techno, trance and EDM types of music. These songs were not composed by the anime's composer, but hired, standalone professionals, so they are pretty great quality. The composer (Sato Naoki) makes a small set of incredibly beautiful music which is just as pure and colorful as the art style. The music was generally able to extract all of the beauty in each rousing, spiritual, calming, pensive or grievous moment. As for the sound effects. One very unique sound in the first episode or so, but you often hear the same crashing noise all of the time and nothing else noteworthy. Sound effects are rarely that important outside of video games, so I would not lower the score more than one point based on them. One of the songs is from the opening of the PlayStation game Ergheiz. My favorites songs off the top of my head are "Eureka" and "To Wish Upon A Star". You will definitely be drawn in by a few of these songs. As for the Opening and Ending themes, you should fall in love with all of them. The best opening theme is probably for the third season and the first ending is probably the best, but I used to feel unimaginably strong about the second ending theme when I was a kid. Character - 9: There are many static characters with the Gecko State, but there are some exceptions. The kids are really fun and great because they are 100% just as hyper-active and annoying and mean to each other as any children you have met. It was nice to see such young children develop as characters and go through many scary situations. Renton's self-conscious nature moves the early parts of the story along in a very relatable way and that makes his character a huge plus. Eureka is the perfect character to fall in love with and she never fits poorly within the story. You really feel like you are dating her, too. Rei and Charles are considered to be the highlight of the series because they really go all out with their scene in the story. They are one of those fiercely devoted couples, but they give a direct mother and father relationship with Renton, who has never felt such feelings before. In this part of the story, Renton is faced with many highly diverse ideas. The twists with Rei and Charles are very amazing and probably the most easy to get emotional about. There is a very under-noted character in the same area of the story. He is a blind farmer who does not harm even the grass. He secretly shows us an ideal lifestyle that could heal much of humanity because he is probably based on Masanobu Fukuoka (the first publicized "Natural" farmer). Seeing this scene, it just seems like a beautiful fairy tale, imaginary land, but places like that really can exist in the world. With Holland, I suppose that he is very reserved. Honestly, he is a true representation of what a free-spirited entrepreneur acts like, and it is exactly what he is. But (still true to that archetype) he is very cautious about breaking the system because there are already so many things that could go wrong for him. What makes him unique is that he gets really emotional with assuming the role of Renton's father and can be pretty scary. Talho is a Faye (Cowboy Bebop) style comedic character, but she is loyal to her man and would not run away and do whatever she wanted. She also takes on a distant mother role for Renton. There is a photographer guy who is supposedly a deep philosopher, but never seemed to say anything deep except in the first episode and a scarce few others. Gidget is simply an innocent character and nothing else, but she has a cool design. Oh, I suppose that this is not supposed to be a summary of every character, but I will just say that the characters have very realistic personas that show different angles on love, but they do not have much time to show what they are made of. The story focuses on Renton, but that is almost necessary for the story to proceed. The only downside is the highly unexplored villains. You never know what is happening with the bad guys. Dewey is a character who seems to be really intriguing at the end, but they tried to make us care long before that time. Enjoyment - 7: This show is not too entertaining. However, you will be drawn in by the beauty of the colors and atmosphere or one of the two most beautiful, ethereal songs on the soundtrack. From there on, you will probably rewatch the anime some time and you will see the deeper lessons if you have gone through more of your life. It feels really rewarding, but it is far from a universal experience, so there was no way that I could offer up a 10 in this category. Overall - 8: Watch it and you will discover if you can really feel the one-of-a-kind magick within this show.

Eureka seven is definitely one of best animes I've ever seen and would definitely recommend to fans of the Action, Mecha and Romance genres. Story - 9 The story gets more and more developed as it goes on, the pacing is spot on and allows the characters to grow and become accustomed to. The problem I had when I first watched it was that its a bit difficult to understand the main enemy of the series and thier origins. Art and Sound - 9 Putting into account the Series came out almost 10 years now, of course the animation may appear outdated but it still holds well today and is better than some other animation styles I've seen over the last 2-3 years. The soundtrack is good and definitely helps to creates an atmosphere reflecting the mood of the scene its played in. the OPs and EDs are good but nothing special. Characters - 7 Unfortunately there are some people who will be put off this great anime due to some of most annoying characters I've seen in anime. First we have Renton (Male MC) who is such a crybaby and will put some people off watching E7. Maurice, Linck and Maeter are 3 orphaned kids that Eureka adopted, they are literally the most annoying brats you will ever see in anime. They get increasingly jealous of Renton and the more time he spends with Eureka, as a result they play jokes on him and try to ruin his increasingly growing relationship with Eureka, they only stop being annoying in the last episode but its far too late you (me at least) utterly hate them by the that time. So yeah several annoying characters but don't try and let it stop you watching E7, its really good. Overall - 9 Definitely watch it, a really good series and while you may be put off due to some characters please bear with it because its really good.
