I've watched a lot of anime and enjoyed a lot but nothing really compares to Kekkai Sensen for me. I watched it late 2015 and ever since then I've fallen in love with its world and characters. Studio Bones did an amazing job at adapting this series with its fantastic animation and nice pacing for the most part. The soundtrack for this series is amazing too, even if you didn't enjoy this series you gotta admit it has an amazing OST. And the ending theme, Sugar Song to Bitter step is very iconic and recognizable to all anime fans!! This series does have 2 anime original characters which is the best use of adding anime original characters that I have seen yet. It makes the story flow much better! Props to the team who added them in! If you liked Baccano or Bungo Stray Dogs give this one a watch for sure!! The vibes are very similar to both of those series. 10/10 from me.

This Review won't contain any spoilers. Kekkai Sensen was a show I was really looking forward to, it was one of those anime which took a lot from the west in it's style and setting and shows like that (for example Baccano! Bebop etc) tend to be some of my favourite shows. This show unfortunatley failed to deliver on substance, it had a lot of style, but without character depth and a coherent story line this show ultimatly fell flat. Story (3/10) Nothing about the premise is bad, the story looks like it can go in interesting directions and the place it is set has a lot of potential, but the story falls flat in the way it is written and presented. The story never felt coherent, it is always jumping around, cutting here and there which made the show feel very jarring. That unfortunately isn' the only thing wrong with how it is told, it is also badly written with little to no explanation of what's going on and why a characters is doing something, in short the plot is very convoluted . I think this lack of explanation and all the jumping around wouldn't be so bad if the story wasn't important to this show. Some of the episodic stories get along fine because it is self contained and you could just get along with enjoying the action/comedy. But neither of these aspects where strong enough on their own to make this show very good and towards the end when they try and focus on the story more, it just made the show worse as it just becomes even more blatant how poorly written it was. Characters (4/10) The characters to this anime all have great design, they all look bad ass with cool clothes and personalities, they are all fun to watch. My main problem is that this anime just gives them style, they are really cool, but there is no substance to them, there is little to no development and only a small amount of characterisation. This is true for all the characters unfortunately, I don't think there is an exception to this. For a specific example let's take the main protagonist Leornado who was a pretty generic and uninteresting character as he didn't have much too him and he was useless for most of the series. The only thing interesting about him to me was his eyes and not his character, it was the fact that he had his mystical eyes which made him special. My point with this is that of course you can have an average Joe get powers, that in itself could be relatable but this trait defined him too much simply because he had no personality, no depth, no development there wasn't much to him at all, he is completly forgetable and the only thing significant thing is just the fact that he had special eyes. I feel this is the same case with the rest of the cast, they have a bit more energy and life to them than the MC, but the show didn't do anything with them. They felt stagnant and had little to them for the whole show and they were defined by only a few personality traits. Sound/Animation (8/10, 8/10) The show has a brilliant opening and ending, in fact the ending to this anime is probably one of my favourites, I very rarely even sit through an ending let alone look forward to when it's played. The OST for the show was really good aswell, it plays a huge variety of classic and iconic songs aswell as its own orignals, and it all fitted with the scenes for the most part and I felt they did add to the experience making what was going on screen better because of the music. The sound track to me was the most well done part of the series. The Animation looked very good aswell, it was one of the better animated series in the spring season. On a more general basis I wouldn't rank the animation as a amazing as I wouldn't say the animation ranks with the top animated series I have seen, but the animation was top notch and as far as I can tell pretty consistent (I am bad at noticing quality drops though). Enjoyment (4/10) It has a lot of cool and crazy action and an awesome sound track but the mess which is the plot did ruin my enjoyment of the series. This series also did have comedy moments, but I wouldn't consider many funny, i only remember laughing to the pizza scene in episode 2, the rest of the time it tried to pull comedic moments wasn't that great and I felt it took me out of the moment, especially in the last episode where the MC was supposed to be trying to save the city, yet they would pull some comedic scenes which would ruin the mood. I did enjoy watching this at times but it had too many things dragging it down for me to really enjoy it, it had its moments, but they where just moments, I didn't enjoy the majority of the show. Conclusion (5/10) As said before this is a style no substance show, it has awesome designs, settings and sound, but a messy plot with no character depth. Which is a shame as with all the style this show had I wish it could of done more with it. In my opinion I would skip this show, it just isn't worth your time, it had potential but it turned out to be mediocre.

Non spoiler review ahead. Going to be a short one. Started this series with high hopes and ended with dropping the second season (my first ever dropped series so far). The art is amazing and a pleasure to watch especially in HD on a large screen, so is the sound, very fitting with the scenes at times. Some comedic aspects are nice, the voice acting (japanese) is amazing and of high quality and professionalism. Apart from this, the story is confusing, many things are not explained, the plot is non existent. I tried to understand the series, I mean I did understand symbolism in Madoka, Evangelion, Yuuki Yuna, plots, themes, references etc, but here it just does not make sense. Why zombies appear, why do they slash them why are they in that part of the city, nothing is explained. All of this is flashed on the screen in flashy and high quality art. Maybe I didn't read the manga, but I don't want to read it to understand a series. Action scenes, again there are a few but end quickly, there is no suspense to them either. The characters are drawn up nicely, surrounded by great art but that's it, they are very empty to the core. Not even the plot twist at the end is convincing, they are trying to attract sympathy in one episode for a character just because she is a bit more human as a girlfriend (wait, maybe otaku girlfriend, a woman smiling and talking nicely to you does not make it a girlfriend). I was very disappointing with this series, I expected something else, some sort of plot, at least to make sense near the end. Too bad the art/music and voice acting is wasted. I wanted to compare with Tales of Zestiria, not that spectacular plot but a lot of eye-candy during battles and static moments, but in the end it would be disrespectful for Tales of Zestiria. In the Blood Blocade Battlefront it's the eye candy that is bitter for your mind and sweet for the eyes. But how the mind hurts after this one....

Woah. I came into this anime not expecting much. It grabbed my attention at the first episode, but it wasn't until episode 11 that I saw the perfection in the show. Now is the story ground-breaking and 100% original? No. It is an interesting premise for sure, but the story itself is not the strongest out there. That being said, by no means is it a bad story. There are some meandering side stories, but that is okay, because of the best thing in the show: The characters. Each character has their charm, and more importantly, they feel real. To expand on specifics would go into spoiler territory, so if you want to see a fun story with some near if not perfect characters, watch this show... And whilst watching the finale, have a tissue box at hand.

I really really liked this anime. First off, it's set in New York but like New York with monsters which is super cool. Since it's set in New York the setting is very urban, and since I'm from a very urban area it was very refreshing and cool setting to have. The music is amazing as well. It has a very R&B and jazzy feel to it which I absolutely loved. The character designs are beautiful, I love the design of Leonardo's eyes. The powers the characters have are very cool as well. I highly recommend this anime it is one of my favorites. :D

For a show that had so much potential, Kekkai Sensen is fairly forgettable. Its conclusion is riddled with issues, made worse by the fact that it was delayed several weeks. However, that's not to say that the series isn't somewhat enjoyable. The first seven episodes of Kekkai Sensen are standalone stories, introducing different aspects of the show's universe. I say "introducing" because nothing is properly developed. After watching these seven episodes I can't say that I know anything about how Hellsalem's Lot works, what Libra's place in the city is, nor the extent of the powers of each character. Nevertheless, these episodes are entertaining enough, with plenty of action and comedy to carry the show. The characters aren't developed either, but they are still enjoyable to watch. The problems really come to light after episode seven. For the rest of the series, there is a double episode on Zapp followed by the multi-episode finale. The Zapp episodes provide some insight into his life, but most of it is shallow and used for comedy. After that, we're at the finale without knowing much about the world of Kekkai Sensen or its characters. This makes it very difficult to understand or even care about what's at stake. The finale drags on with the tone changing constantly, making everything feel jarring. There are many ways that Kekkai Sensen could have addressed these problems. The simplest would be expanding to a 26 episode series allowing time to develop characters. Another idea would be to use those early episodes to focus more on character development, taking away some of the time spent on comedy. Or, they could have begun the ongoing story leading up to the finale earlier. Either way, what the series ended up doing was falling short of all of these ideas. Nevertheless, I still would recommend that fans of action comedies should give this anime a go, at least for the first nine episodes. The action is entertaining and there are plenty of jokes throughout. Visually it is nice to see the unique designs of monsters and the animations for the characters' fighting moves. The OP and ED is also pretty fantastic. However, I wouldn't recommend that anyone bother with the final three episodes as they are a waste of time. I'd give the first nine episodes a 7/10, while the last three would be a 3/10.

Baccano! fans, this show is for you! Trigun fans, you'll probably greatly enjoy this show, but it's not the same, so don't go in expecting a protagonist who's Vash's spiritual successor (same mangaka). Art: The animation by studio Bones is wonderful. Bones is one of those studios where, no matter how long their shows are, you can always expect a certain level of quality in their work. Sakgua is not a rarity. Though my favorite part of the art and animation would be the way Leo's eyes look. Mostly because the blue-glow and mechanized look are pretty much perfectly combined and the colors all contrast perfectly to make the eyes pop and draw attention (a perfect explanation as to why Leo where's goggles). Sound: The music is definitely brilliant. One of my favorite OSTs ever. The jazzy music for the more fun scenes and some more emotional pieces. It does a good job of filling the silence. The OP is amazing, as is the ED. Both dubs are really good and most every character is perfectly cast. Leo's English voice actor has a slightly shaky start (Aron Dismuke: Alphonse Elric (Original FMA), Lucifer/Urushihara (The Devil is a Part-Timer)) but after an episode or two he really gets the hang of his role. Zapp's ENG voice is HILARIOUS and J Michael Tatum does a great job as Stephen. Plus, we have Micah Solusod (Yukine (Noragami), Soul (Soul Eater), Gakushu Asano (Assassination Classroom)) playing the main villain. Story: The story can be confusing at times. And sometimes it's just like... what? Though, when it's allowed to shine, it can be incredibly interesting. The story is fun when its not confusing. And the whole concept itself is interesting. And I'm kinda a sucker for stories that take place in NYC. Characters: The characters are pretty great. Leo reigns as king. And they all have pretty great chemistry together. They play off each other well and their interactions all seem natural and like this is all a completely normal occurrence. I give this category an 8 as opposed to a nine mostly because Gilbert (who has a moderate sized role in the manga) has almost zero screen time as well as Zed, who isn't unlikable, he just wasn't really in the show for long enough for me to really get attached to him. Also, Brody and Hummer is an extremely compelling character(s) and he/they doesn't really get much focus. Though, I give this category an eight as opposed to a lower score is because of the way Libra functions after Leo joins. One of my favorite dynamics in the series is that between him and the rest of his teammates/friends. This is mainly because Leo is a wimp. He's physically weak, he's small, he's shrimpy, and he looks like a little kid (being told that he looks to young to be hanging out in an underground fighting ring). Because of this, he is unable to really defend himself or get in fights. Because of this he has to rely on his teammates to protect him and save him when he gets himself kidnapped (like, four times in 12 episodes, seriously). Despite this, his teammates also rely on him to find vampires and their names for them so they even stand a chance of defeating them because of his magic eyes. This mutual dependency is what makes Leo's presence in Libra both explained and hilarious when he get caught in insane fights between his teammates and other monsters. Final: This show is SO MUCH FUN. And I definitely recommend checking it out. You'll probably have fun!

VERY MINOR SPOILERS Kekkai Sensen, also known as Blood Blockade Battlefront, is a manga series that began serialization way back in 2009. It just recently got an adaptation heralded by the studio Bones right when the manga came to an end in the same year of 2015. The mangaka of Kekkai Sensen is Yasuhiro Nightow – the mind and ink behind the apocalyptic ‘Trigun’. Yes. Motherfratotooing TRIGUN! Now you’d be expecting this to a perfect anime. Or a close 9. Or just very bad. I don’t know. Did you like Trigun? I loved it. Most people I know and the internet adore it too. Certainly Kekkai Sensen should be in the same league, no? Well… It depends on you. Kekkai Sensen is a vastly different (but somewhat similar at the ending) show than Trigun. If I were to liken it to another anime, I’d say it would be in the same category as ‘Baccano!’ and ‘Durarara!!’ Then the question rises: is it just as marvelously bloody wonderful as Baccano? It’s certainly bloodier but not as wonderful. You see, Baccano! excels at throwing out seemingly random acts and masterfully strings them together for a phenomenal conclusion where almost all ends are tied (what doesn’t get knot is done so in the OVA) and everything is explained. Kekkai Sensen goes the same route but it just leaves a lot of very important questions unaddressed, let alone unexplained, and also tacks on a forced emotional over-arching plot getting act upon in the last 3 episodes, which is apparent from around the 3rd episode, that just raises the number of queries instead of answering what’s happened before leading up to it. Now I don’t whether the manga tries to go for the same over-arching plot or not. Apparently the anime has only adapted 12 chapters of 33 of the manga and went with an anime-original ending. That isn’t really much of an excuse. There are issues elsewhere as well. The world of Kekkai Sensen which is a unique supernatural New York City is just wonderful and is a great foundation for many extremely interesting events. Even thought the world had me intrigued and made me hunger for more stuff happening in it, the actual world-building is less than satisfactory. How it was made it only addressed a paltry few times and never given exposition. The creatures that crossed over from the ‘Beyond’ to New York City are just… creatures. They are very different than the traditional monsters we see in other stories and are not given any background information. Take for example, vampires. They suck blood and hate sunlight. In Kekkai Sensen they can not only go walk a for lovely dawn-time walk but can also destroy the world if just a few of them gather together to do so. But, they don’t. They are viciously evil and the MC even yells in one episode that they will fuck shit up if nothing is done. A brief battle between the MC’s boss and two vampires later the THOUSANDS of vampires hiding just to attack is merely dismissed as an afterthought. What? That’s not the only problem. Pretty much all of the characters have no background. Other than the MC and the two ‘main’ plot characters (Black and White) only Zeff, the comic relief, is somewhat fleshed out – in the most ‘just throw it out there’ manner possible. And how the characters (mainly the Libra members – MC’s organization) Up till now, I’ve dissed Kekkai Sensen. That must mean it’s a bad show, right? NOPE. Despite all the major flaws, Kekkai Sensen is still a high quality show. The show is mainly episodic with a few minutes of over-arching plot advancement in each episode. Where do the other 15+ minutes go? Well, they go into the hilarious everyday hijinks and battle tendencies of the diverse cast. I laughed out loudly at Kekkai Sensen’s ingenious comedy. The combat is just as clever too. It’s not high-power Fate-ish fighting but it certainly has quality visual flair akin to that of ‘Kill la Kill’. The Baccano! approach really works well for Kekkai Sensen. If it just had focused more on the world and characters’ interactions with it and each other than the badly handled and poorly written ‘main’ plot, then Kekkai Sensen would have been a top-notch anime. I suspect that the many things left unanswered are for a second season but I also don’t think that that is likely as Bones rarely does 2nd seasons. It’s also a pain that the anime has an original plotline (and new characters) so you can’t continue from the manga either. Such a shame. The animation is a mixed bag. Sometimes it’s great and sometimes you’re left wondering if some episodes had budget cuts. This only goes for non-backgrounds; the backgrounds are actually superb with great color contrast and heavy detailing. The character designs are more or less good, I guess. The direction is where the magic happens. Sharp and curious camera angles, surprising scene transitioning, and fluid movement ensures that the fluctuation animation is at least kept interesting. The music of Kekkai Sensen is on point. The rock-ish Opening grows on you and when it’s a healthy adult, you’ll be chanting “Hello doumo boku wa kokooooooooooooooooooooooooo” (Hello world, here I am) along with it. The Ending song is a downright marvelous kind of jazzy tune you won’t be able to get enough of (I hope). Plus, the show’s cast dances in it! The background music is just as great as these and ranges from smooth jazz to blues and then to a diner’s jukebox selection of old songs to finally classical music when the finale nears. In terms of enjoyment, Kekkai Sensen is a 9 out of 10 for me. But as a show where I have to judge all of it’s flaws and decide fairly for the sake of those reading this review the score will be a 7 out 10 with me saying that shit’s highly recommended, yo.

I am super angry at this show.It had potential to be really great.I went in it blind, without any expectations. So where to start..... The plot is mainly episodic ,just like Cowboy bebop,Space Dandy,Gintama, etc. I think that this was a horrible decision for this show ,because it's very hard to make every episode memorable and interesting. The story itself is super confusing and uninteresting.Random stuff happens, without any explanation. The show expects the viewers to roll with it.Another problem is that the comedy for most parts is horrible and placed in really bad places. The serious parts are not working AT ALL,because there is stupid comedy in between. It suffer the same problem as Akame ga kill. The plot in the last few episodes was confusing ,but it served as a ok closing for the show. The reason i am angry with the show are episodes 5 and 6.They were fuckin AMAZING.Everything worked really well in them. The comedy was on point, there were some cute moment between Leo and White and so on ,and so on.The show would have worked much better as a episodic comedy without the dumb edgy parts.Or separated comedic and serious episodes . The characters are....random.They had cool designs.Leo was cool...There is nothing else to mention The music and animation were on point. The ed is super catchy So yeah...the show tried to be a mix between Gintama/Cowboy Bebop/Baccano and it failed ,with the exception of episodes 5 and 6,which saved the show from being total shit for me.

In this review I will try to explain the reasons why this show and other good shows are underrated. I will start by stating 3 reasons and proceed to break them down in detail. 1. Some People can't follow a story because they're slow. 2. People don't actually know what a good story is. 3. People start watching shows with preconceived ideas of what the show is. Point number 1: Some people are just slow. Sorry, but not everyone out there can follow a story especially fast paced ones. I don't think that Kekkai Sensen has a fast paced story, but people will be trying to look for a main plot in all the madness instead of understanding that in the first part of the story (And a little bit throughout.) it's just trying to show you how crazy and hectic everyday is for the lives of the characters in this world. The people who do this won't even be able to understand what they should, and will probably be missing out on the comedy too. Which is a real shame because I thought that this show is one of the best comedies I've seen. Point number 2: I can't see how people can say that this anime has, “No plot.” or say that the non-linear story is a bad thing. It baffles me how people don't want something to be cliché, and then turn around and complain that the story didn't follow the typical progression of other shows. How ironic. The definition of cliché is: “Being predictable and unimaginative; falling into a groove of human boredom; an old tired trend.” Don't you think that following the usual linear story progression would be the unimaginative thing to do? Rather then having your own unique way of telling the story? So when someone complains about a story that doesn't follow the typical progression of every other show out there, take their opinion with a grain of salt. Just because it doesn't fit into their mold of what they believe to be, “The correct way.” of telling a story. By all means doesn't make it bad. As for the, “No plot.” argument, people will think that just because the story they're watching may not have something to do with the main plot means that nothing is happening. This is just stupid. Even if it doesn't involve the main plot directly, that doesn't make it filler or any less interesting. (Unless nothing is actually happening.) Because the stuff that's happening is happening to the characters and there is still a story being told and lessons to be learned from. At the end of the day a plot is just stuff that happens to your characters and characters are one of the most important things in a good story. People may disagree with me on this point, but if you don't have good characters no one's gonna care what happens to them. Point number 3: People need to just watch shows for what they are. Let the show itself be what it is. Instead of going into it with expectations of what you think it'll be. People who go into something with expectations like that will only hurt themselves, and miss a chance to actually enjoy or experience something new. It's like someone walks into a sushi joint thinking it's a Chinese restaurant trying to order some Chinese chicken. They get served some sushi. They eat some, spit it out, and say, “This chicken is awful!” Then they have the audacity to go online and write a review of the place. That sushi joint could have the best sushi ever, but if you were expecting Chinese chicken you'll be disappointed. One last thing I wanted to mention is that there are also the people who say that the characters were underdeveloped because of how many there are. This is not true. The main characters had plenty of development. Does that mean they answered every little question you had about them? No, but that was intentional. If you explain every little detail about every character and why they act the way they do, you will destroy any mystery to that character and not leave any room for the viewer to think for themselves about why the characters might be acting the way they are. This is my first review, and most certainly won't be my last. Please click that helpful button if you found any of this useful. Keep it real, peace.

I wasn't a fan of action type series. But, Kekkai Sensen caught my attention. At first, I was listening to soundtracks of the show without any kind of knowledge about the show. Hello, world and Sugar Song to Bitter Step were two of my favorites up to this very moment and after watching the series, it made me realize that the use of the soundtracks are superb and really catches up to the mood of the scene. The New York vibe, the feels type, etc. Story of Kekkai Sensen is pretty common. You have your main character who is an average human with a different kind of power that can help a certain team. He isn't the most powerful dude but can he is a game-changer. The mix of comedy and drama is a check. The art style is in sync with the sound. Pretty detailed style and I like flashy colors (lel). This is actually the first anime where I watched from the beginning to the end just because of the animations used (especially the ending, that dance was pretty amazing). Characters. Leo is a rare type MC. Pretty humble dude with an amazing power. He's one of my favorite characters of the Spring season (8man). Original anime characters weren't actually a big hit to a lot of people, but White and Black may be the firsts. The addition of both characters were pretty good to be honest. As for enjoyment, I loved the series as a whole. It's a pretty cool anime and what catches your attention would be the sound and the characters. And, that's it for my review.

Wow. What a roller coaster ride. There's so much you could say about a series like this, but it really only does it justice to watch it. If you're ready to take a plunge into the heart of hope and madness, then you've found the right anime. The experimental animation style, the disjointed storytelling, the surreal setting, and the atmospheric music really hold the viewer in sway, and allow this anime to accomplish the crazy immersion that it is able to. And the story, though more or less pretty straight-forward, is really able to free-fall through the themes and motifs that the plot throws at you thanks to the movement these components provide. And, while these disparate parts might seem unrelated at first, the story really does seem to manage to glue them all together. Suffice it to say that, by the end, you will be bewildered, intrigued and a bit dizzy, but, as everything comes full circle, you'll also be left with the brave uncertainty, and the catharsis that comes with, what I like to call, "a thematically perfect ending."

I have to redo my review because the previous one didn't explain anything (just like the show). I personally love Kekkai Sensen, but I sadly have to acknowledge that it has big faults. Kekkai Sensen is a very frustrating show because it is one step away from greatness. When it comes to aspects that are normally very difficult to do, it excels. However, it fails at one or two very important aspects. If this show's problems were fixed, it might actually overtake my current favorite: Cowboy Bebop. Its biggest problem is the lack of explanation when it comes to very crucial elements. There are three things that Kekkai Sensen never takes the time to explain or establish: The plot, the characters, and the superpowers. The extent of what each character can do is completely unknown. On top of that, to prevent you from ever understanding anything, the show will add new superpowers all of a sudden without explaining those either. It is complete chaos. Every episode feels like there was a timeskip before it. The plot is also completely ambiguous. What is Libra? What do they do? Who are the Blood Breeds? The moment you feel like you understand something, the plot leaps forward and leaves you behind, all the while adding a completely new character every episode, making it impossible to keep up. On the other hand, it does so many things well that I usually expect anime to fumble: - Leo is a great execution of a "weak" protagonist. I am glad that they did not max out his wimpiness and kept it at a realistic level. - Leo is interesting because he's not the protagonist who has a power that lets him beat up baddies. The authors managed to give him a superpower that is pure utility/support, but at the same time make it convincingly very important and useful. - The characters were great. Although some of them are shallow, they were all very likeable. - The setting is phenomenal. I don't know what time era of New York this is, but it's sort of like retro Sam Raimi Spiderman type of New York. - The romance subplot was very well executed because of how subtle it was. Leo's interactions with White felt very realistic. - The episodic nature of the show was great. Every episode had something fresh and entertaining. I just wish the characters were more well established. - Since the last few episodes were easier to digest, it really showcased the potential of this anime. The ending and its setup were superb. Some of the episodes near the end were a blast. - The humor worked more often than not.

I just finished this anime after 7-8 days, i don't want to write a novel here, also i won't spoiler anything so feel free to read: The creativeness of the art of this anime is so well-done, i really got amazed in some episodes. The Characters are greate, one of them is looking familiar to me (Steven A. Starphase) just in an older version (sorry, might sound cringe, but true). Outro music is actually a good one, meawhile the openning and background music are part of the "meh" chategory, but the sound effects are again a thing they made well in this anime. Now let's talk about why i gave only 6/10 score to this anime: After watching the 4th episode i was like i'm going to give it an 8 or 9, but i can't do that. The 5th episode got me bored, so it took me more than an hour to watch it, because i've paused it in every 5 mins to watch videos on YouTube to keep my eyes open. Some episodes later i realized that this anime looking awsome, the characters and their powers are great, but hey where's the story? After watching the full season i'm here and asking the same question, what was the main story of it? - i don't know. *Edit: Some sceen of it has texts like a PPT template. And it's not because i've paused the episodes from the 5th one, but it's because the anime built up by short stories and it has a main story-line, but it's so simple that made me disappointed as hekk... I really wanted to love this anime, but can't give it more than a 6/10. In my opinion it could have been on level of Jujustsu Kaisen or close to it, because the creators really made a good job here, but the writer of the story is an amateur for sure. So after all: It was boring, but atleast i didn't fall asleep on it. Worth to give it a try, because the first some episodes are absolutely okay, maybe you can watch the whole season without pausing it, but i say it as a fact: it has those filler moments.

Watching this in 2019 doesn’t really fare well for this anime that aired in 2015. Therefore, I looked up other anime that aired in 2015 and I can confirm this anime, along with Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works made by ufotable we’re probably the most well-animated anime that season! So I’ll start off with a kudos to studio Bones for doing such a good job, Bones is one of my most favourite studios as they have a very unique art style. They animated many anime that made it to the top charts and each anime has a very individual art style while maintaining a studio Bones animation vibe which is pretty nice. With that said, I’ll move on to the story. Story 7/10 The anime had a very interesting first episode in my opinion. It began with a ‘teaser’ intro as I like to call it in which a short scene of the character’s past/future is shown. This approach is not exactly original but genericity is never a bad thing, at least in my opinion though being original will definitely give a better impression. We start off with an introduction to the world our characters are living in and an explanation to the eldritch setting the anime had. Supersonic monkeys, vampires, talking fishmen, and all sorts of different supernatural monsters living alongside humans—this has been part of daily life in Hellsalem's Lot, formerly known as New York City, for some time now. When a gateway between Earth and the Beyond opened three years ago, New Yorkers and creatures from the other dimension alike were trapped in an impenetrable bubble and were forced to live together. Libra is a secret organization composed of eccentrics and superhumans, tasked with keeping order in the city and making sure that chaos doesn't spread to the rest of the world. Pursuing photography as a hobby, Leonardo Watch is living a normal life with his parents and sister. But when he obtains the "All-seeing Eyes of the Gods" at the expense of his sister's eyesight, he goes to Hellsalem's Lot in order to help her by finding answers about the mysterious powers he received. He soon runs into Libra, and when Leo unexpectedly joins their ranks, he gets more than what he bargained for. Kekkai Sensen follows Leo's misadventures in the strangest place on Earth with his equally strange comrades—as the ordinary boy unwittingly sees his life take a turn for the extraordinary. With that, we are immersed in what seemed like an episodic pantomime. However, the anime soon redeemed itself by more or less explaining the current situation our hero is in through details and explanations in a series of episodic episodes featuring new creatures and cool fight scenes with an array of well animated scenes each episode despite the contrasting dark urban setting. I actually really love the dark urban look the anime had, it brings in a sort of gothic look and blends well with the unique, unearthly design the setting in the anime had. Each episode we get introduced to a new character and develop with the few main characters along the way with each episode throwing us hints and new questions that keeps us craving for more. We were first introduced to Leo’s comrades-to-be, a run down of Leo’s current situation resonating with why he wanted to join his ‘comrades’ and a slight snippet of his backstory while being contemporaneous with explaining the setting the anime was in and what the organisation (Libra) does. The explanations were conveyed in an episodic manner as I said above and each episodes features a new enemy and/or a new supporting character that may or may not be important in future episodes. A few characters had secrets that would be uncovered in later episodes making them interesting. The main reason why this anime is bad is because the storyline is poorly blended together. The anime started off episodic providing snippets of explanations to the general situation to build towards the main plot but ended up getting clusterfucked at the end. The anime also featured a form of mild-romance where two characters understood and liked each other but it got clusterfucked with the main plot at the end when the ‘potential waifu and best girl’, White or Mary did something unimaginable. There was so much room for a romantic development but sadly the two only managed to get to a close friend stage... Character 9/10 I loved every character here in all honestly. Let’s start off with poster boy Leo Leonardo Watch: To be honest, I watched BBB because the Leo looks freaking cool like those Isekai protagonist and I was expecting to see a cool little kid that had these cool looking eyes that has some cool power and with a tough, prideful personality. Leo was none of those, he was a kid with problems he can’t solve and questions he can’t find the answers to. He’s hopeless, wimpy, gentle and kind. A very soft personality living in a hard and harsh world. This gave uniqueness to the anime and a tinge of originality. He has a deep background and despite all his problems, he is still kind and trustworthy sort of like Naruto, he is trustable and would always help a friend in need. Not to mention he possesses a powerful innate ability that is wanted by all making him develop more through getting involved in many un-welcomed situations . Zapp Renfro: Everyone would think he’s the badass when he made his first appearance, Zapp is interesting because when he’s fighting he really is a complete badass but outside, he’s a scheming, obnoxious, idiotic, perverted bum. He’s lazy and likes to boss Leo around which makes him extremely hilarious because the other characters, the members of Libra to be exact don’t seem to show much respect to him knowing his nature to be as such. He is particularly hostile towards Chain which looks cut more like a badass hot female character and seeing them quarrel is golden. Zapp’s unique personality also involves him always getting into trouble and causing them making him the shrewd, unaccountable, nuisance of the group which just adds a lot of life to the anime. Klaus Von Reinherz: He has a very unique character design looking like a werewolf in my opinion which really fits his beastly personality. Also, Klaus just proves another thing about this anime, it seems to like to use ridiculously long names since this is America apparently. I have no idea why the names are so long and french sounding though. Klaus is the true badass in my opinion and the real deal in the anime. He has a very well-curated personality being kind yet harsh at the same time. A very fitting personality for a leader. Klaus is very respectable and ruthless at the same time, he knows when to act on what and that just makes him Super Cool to watch! Steven A. Starphase & K.K. : These two seem to always be working together so I’ll put them together. Steven is a very casually funny character being extremely chill with even the ‘should be life-threatening’ situations making him a very fun character to watch, he also displayed a fair share of badassery when using his ice powers. On the other hand, K.K is dressed like a complete badass with a very mature, hot and overall badass character design like Maiya Hisau from Fate/Zero she’s a professional badass. Mary McBeth (White): This is the cute girl that I thought would play a big part in the romance life of Leo. When I first met her I knew she was going to be that cute waifu. First, let me just say that White is very cute, her blonde hair and her emerald green eyes. Despite her outfit normally being plain white, it still suits her very well. Mary is a girl that resembles Leo in many aspects, she has a brother like Leo, she’s ‘weak’ in the sense that she cannot protect her brother and her brother protected her by sacrificing himself like Leo and his sister however, what I liked about the anime is that despite the ending being clusterfucked for Mary when she hopelessly betrayed him and got betrayed and brutally stabbed by her ‘own brother’ the anime showed that Mary was like Leo however, Leo woul…

Kekkai Sensen is a fun and entertaining anime. This anime has a bizarre world with strange characters, especially the ones in Libra. However, most of them are great, specially Klaus and Zapp. The story can be a bit confusing, but it might be a problem of mine. It's a well done plot added with great action sequences and a creative soundtrack. I really recommend this anime to anyone who likes action anime in general, and of course, you should listen to the OP, ED and the soundtrack. Ps.: that ED is simply one of the greatest I have ever seen in this decade.

I finished the show and I still had no idea what was going on. The first episode showed promise and a goal but it basically ended there. After that it was pure chaos, no linear plot if you followed the main character. If you enjoy wasting your time, this is good for it. I found myself doing other things as I was watching toward the end of the first season just since I made it that far. The characters seemed like they would be interesting, but were never developed. The art is beautiful and the music was great. I will not be bothering with the second season.

Kekkai sensen is a rather weird anime to write a review about. Its an anime that makes little sense from start to end, but its one of those anime that makes you *feel* something. The sensation is rather hard to explain. Lets start with the story. It makes no sense, and although there is *some* effort on the part of the directors to make some semblance of what is going on, even at the very end, you have no real clue what is going on. The story essentially centers around a the boy protagonist, Leo. He just magically receives a magic pair of eyeballs out of nowhere and for no reason. Furthermore, the eyesight of his disabled sister had to be taken in order for him to receive such powers. Never, anywhere in the story is this phenomenon explained. Furthermore, the story diverges a lot. There really does not seem to be a central line of progression, or perhaps there was just too much story to unpack in just 12 episodes. The story for me, just doesn't do it. Its all the other stuff that makes this anime fun to watch. The art and sound, are what you'd expect from a studio like Bones. Its damn near perfect although I do feel that there is a tad too much music in this one. I guess what they are trying to capture is the feeling of New York with rap songs and classic jazz bar songs. One could say that it does indeed add to the environment of the situation Leo finds himself is. Like the music, its both interesting and at the same time totally chaotic. The battle scenes are fluid, and beautifully drawn. One gets a real feeling that this is a hand crafted anime, unlike some of the modern CGI heavy battle scenes that you see today. The characters are neat. You definitely are rooting for Leo, and the other characters do get *some* background to them. But the development of these characters are not properly paced. The magic system is also kinda "just there". Again, a lot of things make little sense, but there is some interesting dialogue, and funny things do indeed happen. There are some scenes that really make you consider things, by being mysterious, but since the plot is rather confusing, you don't always understand their significance. I'd say that this is an enjoyable anime. You do root for the characters involved and you really enjoy the battle scenes. It makes no sense though, so not a 9 for me. I'd say this is a solid 8, due to the good art, music and overall direction.

My first review, yay! By the way, if it wasn't because of maimai(Arcade game made by SEGA), i may not be writing this, since i know the anime from the ED xP Okay, Here we go! Story : 8 Since i grew up reading and watching shounen genre, This anime brings back memories to me(why memories? read my bio) (///v///) So I can't deny the fact that this anime got great storyline for shounen-type. This anime got good jokes, too! Art : 8 It's got a mix of dark and bright(?), and it really suits the story. So yeah, good job Bones :) (y) Sound : 10 The OP is really good, that bassline tho! xD but the ED, is exceptional! as I mentioned above, I know this anime from the MaiMai arcade game. And until now(October 5th 2016), It remains at the top of my most played music on my playlist xD By the way, the background song on the anime is really good!It really suits every scene in the anime :) Character : 8 I like every characters on this anime(I even like the antagonist) . and if you agree with all that I wrote above, you might as well agree with me with this section. Enjoyment : 9 I enjoyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy every single episode in this anime. There will be times where you will be confused about one episode, but if you keep watching it, you'll soon understand the part that you've been confused about in the end. Overall : 10 (8+8+10+8+9) : 5 = 43 : 5 = 8,6/10 = 9/10 p.s sorry about my bad english. english is not my mother language EDIT 09/11/2016 : Changes on most Score, because even if this is one heck of an anime, There still plenty anime that are better than this. And I can't just put this Anime as the example of what i called " 10 out of 10 " ( Previously i put that score )

If you like anime in a western setting and love random things, then this anime might just be what you're looking for. At first, I only watched this anime because a girl seated beside me on the train was watching it. So I thought, why not give it a shot? And I'm glad I did, because this series offered something so unique from other series. The plot is rather complicated, in a good way. It's because it doesn't follow a straight line, unlike most shows. And so it's difficult to understand what's happening simply by watching it once. But one thing's for sure: Your brain will have a hard time catching up to whatever's happening! Another thing I liked are the characters. What I like about them is that they all stand out in their own way. It's not always about the MC. Each character has their own spotlight, and they're remembered by how they are shown while in that spotlight. Although the plot was confusing, this anime certainly had artistic value. Meaning you can watch it and simply enjoy the visuals it presents, even if you don't understand what's happening. Kudos for the creators for emphasizing this element. Lastly, the soundtrack was epic. The ending theme reminded me of Baccano. It fit the mood of the whole series without standing out too much. In short, it was a roller coaster of headaches that I oddly enjoyed. I'd recommend this for those who prefer a rather complicated plot mixed with dazzling graphics. One can only imagine what goes on in the world of Blood Blockade Battlefront!
