One word review: REDUNDANT Halfway through a 12 episode single cour first season, one simply does not need a recap episode, especially not one that adds no new or revisited material and hardly has any editing. The material recapped is included exactly as shown in the original six episodes, and no narration is provided to further elaborate on the events or even highlight them. Also, the recap has little potential for newcomers to the series, as it covers only a small amount of material, than can easily be caught up. At the same time if, in the future, a second season is made and someone wants, for whatever reason, skip the first entirely, a recap of “only” half of it, is not going to suffice. Placed at the end of the season, or before the finale, it might have served some purpose, but as it is now, it is just filler. This recap’s art, characters, etc., are up to standards, in fact they are exactly the same as in the first six episodes of the series, which in fairness were rather good. However, overall I can not but give this recap the lowest possible rating.

If you've been following the series, you don't really need to watch this, think the second half of Evangelion: Death and Rebirth, it was the first half of End of Evangelion, this is basically the same, its the first half of the series, but they've cut bits out and just kept the main aspects of the story and cut out some of the action scenes and the stuff that wasn't really important. If you've been told to try the series and don't mind missing some small details, then you could just watch this then start from episode 7, or if you enjoy the show and want a quick recap, otherwise there's nothing really of value. If you've just come here, wondering if its for you then I'd recommend watching episode 1, it starts off showing you historic events then leads in to the present day, it has a fair few fighting scenes (at least 1 every episode so far if my memory serves well), some scenes with some light humour and there's a load of religious influences, such as having Greek gods, references to the bible and even Joan of Arc. I'd personally recommend it if you're a fan of RPGs, as to me it has a kind of Final Fantasy crossed with Breath of Fire (mostly 3) feel, leaning more towards Breath of Fire.

Another recap... That’s right, here we have another one of those recap episodes that pop up mid-season and completely disrupt the show's pacing. In this case, the episode summarizes roughly the first five or six episodes of the season, revisiting events that were still relatively fresh in the minds of those following the anime week-to-week. And that is precisely where I have a problem with this episode. I genuinely hate mid-season recaps, especially when they add absolutely nothing to the viewing experience. It feels like the episode exists more to buy the production team time to work on upcoming episodes than out of any genuine narrative necessity. Mind you, I do understand the purpose of a recap. In certain situations, especially with long-running series or when there’s a long gap between seasons, refreshing the audience's memory on key events can be useful. The issue arises when you’re following a season normally and suddenly get a whole episode recapping events you’ve just watched. Technically, though, I don’t have many complaints. The animation maintains the show's usual quality, the fluidity is good, the sound design works, and the editing organizes the events reasonably well. But none of that is really to the recap's credit; it’s simply reusing material that was already well-produced in the original episodes. And that’s another issue: the episode fails to justify its own existence. Obviously, it doesn't work as a recap of the entire season since the season is still ongoing, but it’s not a summary designed to introduce the show to newcomers unfamiliar with Shingeki no Bahamut, either. It’s simply a compilation of past events. In practice, if you’ve already watched the previous episodes, there’s virtually no reason to re-watch everything this way. You get no new relevant information, there’s no further character development, and there are no significant narrative shifts. It literally means hitting the pause button on the story just to watch what you’ve already seen. Worst of all, it kills the pacing. You’re following the story, building anticipation to see what happens next, and then, suddenly, the anime just says, "Hold on, let’s recap everything that’s happened so far." It brings the experience to a complete halt. So, while it is a technically competent recap, that doesn't change the fact that it’s completely unnecessary. The material remains high-quality, simply because that quality was already there in the original work, but as a standalone episode, it offers very little. If you’re watching the season for the first time, just skip it. You won’t miss anything truly important and can move straight on to the next episode. For those already familiar with the story, it’s even more superfluous. Ultimately, it’s that classic sort of episode: it exists, you watch it because it’s on the list, and when it’s over, you think, "I could have spent those minutes doing literally anything else." I don’t recommend it. Raiting: 4/10. Nota: 4/10.
