Digimon Frontier: Ornismon Fukkatsu!!

Digimon Frontier: Island of Lost Digimon

Wow, this is an old story type used for centuries in story's and fairy tales. Our adventure's get into a certain city, were two kinds of Digimon live, the Beast type and the Human type, both have been in a feud for years. They blame each other for it. Of course our heroes gets mixed up in it, those 3 join the humans and those three the beasts, but they quickly find Digimon who haven't been busy with the feud, they're friends with each other, both sides end the feud, our he...roes reunite en become friends again, but then a greater evil appears and everyone has to work together. Just a basic ol' story type. There wasn't much of a introduction to this movie, that's too bad. The art is like is supposed to be, the same style as the Digimon Frontier series, the sounds good, a lot of fun voice actors who worked on this movie (for the Digimon). The characters are good too, Takuya and Kouji are fighting like always, just like that the other characters are the same as in the series. Good sound, nice quality, normal animation. If you liked Digimon Frontier, or one of the early seasons (1 or 2) this movie is recommended, it gives a vibe which is used on the first two and the fourth season, and the movies that belong to those season. Highly enjoyable for a Digimon lover, but for the other anime watchers, teenagers/adult or kids, this is a anime movie that stays fun to watch.

I think this could have being an enjoyable movie if it didn´t last for 40 minutes. You can tell the anime studio was making a full-lenght film but there had to cut stuff for whatever reason, hence why there only kept the key parts of the plot but without any character development or worldbuilding that could have improved the story. Kinda of a shame since the Human-Beast War was barely touch upon in the actual series, it made me wanting more. While is not a terrible movie is not something you´re gonna missed either. Also what´s up with those Carnival floats? Are those Digimon too? This OVA left so many questions.

It didn't hold my attention... To be completely honest, I struggled quite a bit to enjoy this movie. Curiously, the first issue I encountered wasn't even with the film itself, but with the difficulty of finding it. Locating an available version was tricky, and then came another hurdle: finding the movie in a language I could easily follow. I couldn't find a dubbed version or one with Portuguese subtitles, so I ended up watching it in English without subtitles. Since I’m not fluent, I can only understand a good portion of what’s being said, I inevitably missed some details, leaving certain plot threads unresolved for me. Of course, the language barrier isn't exactly the movie's fault, but it significantly impacted my experience. At times, I felt like I was missing important information or that certain situations weren't as clear as they should have been. This made a story I already found somewhat confusing even harder to follow. Furthermore, my recent review of Digimon Frontier likely made it clear that I didn't care for the season's core concept: humans transforming into Digimon. I still find that premise unappealing; for me, it’s one of the main reasons I struggled to connect with Frontier. The idea simply doesn't work for me. Even though I know Digimon predates Ben 10, the human-to-creature transformation often gives me the impression that I'm watching a version of that concept I don't particularly enjoy. That issue carries over to the movie as well. Since I already disliked the series' premise, it was very hard to form any emotional attachment to the events unfolding here. Usually, when I watch a movie based on a series, I hope it will at least give me a reason to take an interest in that universe again. Unfortunately, Ornismon Fukkatsu failed to do that for me. The story didn't help much, either. I wouldn't necessarily call the story terrible, but I struggled to follow certain events and fully grasp specific situations. Part of this might have been due to the language barrier, but I also felt the film itself failed to engage me enough to make me want to decipher every detail. When a work truly captures my interest, I’m usually curious to find out what’s happening, even if I don’t understand everything right away. Here, the exact opposite happened: the more I watched, the more detached I felt from the story. The animation, on the other hand, is a highlight I can praise. It is consistent and of good quality for its time. While I wouldn't classify it as spectacular or particularly impressive, it serves its purpose very well. The action sequences are easy to follow, and visually, the film hasn't aged in a way that detracts significantly from the experience. I didn't have any major issues with the technical aspects, either. The real problem was a lack of engagement. I simply couldn't feel the same level of interest I had when watching the first Digimon movie. In that instance, despite the short runtime, there was something that held my attention and made me genuinely care about the events unfolding. Here, unfortunately, I spent much of the time just waiting for the movie to end. I think that pretty much sums up my experience with Ornismon Fukkatsu!!. I don't necessarily consider everything about it bad, but I just couldn't connect with the concept. The premise of Frontier had already bothered me during the main series, and the movie failed to change that perception. If anything, it reinforced some of the issues I already had with the season. Overall, I didn't enjoy the film. The animation is competent for its era, and I can acknowledge certain production qualities, but that wasn't enough to make up for a story that failed to hook me, a premise I don't particularly care for, and a viewing experience hampered by the difficulty of finding a version in a language I could follow more easily. Perhaps my experience would have been different had I watched it in Portuguese or with subtitles, but based on what I did watch, the experience fell well short of my expectations. Ornismon Fukkatsu!! suffers from many of the same issues I found in the main series and, unfortunately, adds a few others. Raiting: 4/10. =================================================================================================================Versão em Português===================================== Não me prendeu a atenção... Aqui, infelizmente, passei boa parte do tempo apenas esperand…

The movie was fine, but I prefer more action. Story-wise, it was similar to many other fantasy (isekai) storylines. I'm not a fan of the fast-paced directing approach. The animation quality was just mediocre, and the sound effects were disappointing for a film; I could hardly hear any musical scores during my viewing experience. The voice acting was typical of the series, with nothing particularly extraordinary. However, I appreciated the evolution scenes portrayed in this movie compared to the series. I believe this movie is non-canon, as it doesn't significantly impact the flow of the series, and the plot does not align with it. To be honest, I think this series is really underrated, but this movie did not meet my expectations. Still, I would recommend giving it a try.
