Bero-dashi Chonma

Story told very much like a "local legend". It is story of Edo farmers in Japan and their struggles. Particularly of one family who decided to risk everything to make taxes lower in face of poor crop yields. And you can smell throughout this who OVA how it's going to end. What surprised me was how characters kept their calm knowing how things will turn out. If it were a TV anime, they would have added so many exaggerated faces and changed the ending for mass audience. Production is what you expect from the era. I like the use of colors throughout. Sounds are nice, makes you immersed in the era. Farmer struggles have historically shaped our world. European peasantry struggles led to modern democracy. Wars were fought for certain commodities along Silk Route. And so on. I'm glad that one from Japan was made and made quite well. Rather nice OVA.
