The entire point of Danganronpa is that you end up in a setting where you get to know a bunch of other characters before (and while) you all end up killing each other. That's the entire point. The ENTIRE point. So like, what the hell was this. What are we doing. A bunch of new character that we didn't really get to know at all dying and the only thing possibly keeping you interested is the fact that this has a 3 at the end of it. Half the time I just don't acknowledge this show, it just feels so pointless, but it feels worse knowing that most people who would watch in the current year won't watch it as it aired, where each week Mirai-hen and Zetsubou-hen would alternate. The first episode of Zetsubou-hen literally starts by showing events that happened in Mirai-hen, and the stories told in Zetsubou-hen often inform narrative plot points and characters in the upcoming Mirai-hen episodes. They're not meant to be watched apart. Anyway, incredibly mediocre show. Two good things did come out of it, though. First, the ending is genuinely fantastic, one of my favorite endings of any anime. The second is a bit less enduring and isn't really something the show *does* so much as what it inspires, but it's that the theorycrafting from week to week was a TON of fun. The fact that an episode of this show effectively came out every two weeks actually helped that a lot because there would be a lot of discussion about the episode after it aired and then after Zetsubou-hen came out there would be theorycrafting about *that* and discussion about this would get bolstered by information from the Zetsu episodes. It's not really relevant to a current watch, and it's a bit worse in retrospect because most of the fun theories, however much sense they made, usually up ended either wrong or right but in the least exciting way possible. I think there was only like, one plot point that its roots showing early on that actually ended up being a fun reveal, and the character it's related to (one new to this show) I actually ended up liking a lot by the end. That didn't really save the show, though.

Part 1 English Part 2 Bahasa Indonesia -------------------------------------- Well, well, well. What do we have here? Danganronpa 3: The End of Kibougamine Gakuen - Mirai-hen? That's a mouthful. But let me tell you, this anime is worth every syllable. Let's start with the story. It's like a rollercoaster ride that never ends. Just when you think you know what's going to happen, BAM! Plot twist. I haven't been this entertained since I watched a monkey ride a unicycle. And that's saying something. Now, let's talk about the art style. It's like Picasso and Monet had a baby and it grew up to be an anime artist. The colors are so vibrant, they practically jump off the screen and slap you in the face. But in a good way, of course. As for the main characters, there are too many to count. But don't worry, they're all so unique and interesting that you'll never get bored. It's like a buffet of personalities. And who doesn't love a good buffet? The voice over work is top-notch. It's like Morgan Freeman and James Earl Jones had a love child and it grew up to be a voice actor. The music is also fantastic. It's like Beethoven and Tupac collaborated on a soundtrack. And finally, the overall experience of watching this anime is just indescribable. It's like trying to explain the taste of a pineapple to someone who's never had one. You just have to try it for yourself. So, if you're looking for an anime that's funny, thrilling, and will make you question everything you thought you knew, then it is the anime for you. Score? 7,888/10. -------------------------------------- Well, well, well. Apa yang kita miliki di sini? Danganronpa 3: The End of Kibougamine Gakuen - Mirai-hen? Skor? 7.888/10.

Pretty disappointing entry to the series. The main driving force being the initial two detective mystery games is followed up with a weird action focused tragic future anime. While this genre can work, it feels out of place with the main games, which are about solving the individual murder cases and the overall case of the story. The original appeal of the series feels like it was cut out, and all we're left with is a watered down action anime that never really ties up or reconciles its overarching narrative of the world coming to an end. If everyone is still filled with despair how does hope win in the end? I know the main theme of the series is reaching for hope despite an uncertain and scary future, but that doesn't excuse not writing a proper conclusion to your story.

(Minor Spoilers) After the original "Danganronpa animation" I immediately started watching Danganronpa 3. The series itself can only really be described as average because as an average viewer I went from the ending of Danganronpa the animation to the beginning of Danganronpa 3, which has the same characters but introduces a group of all these other characters and places everything in a new setting. If you are a normal viewer, this would be beyond confusing. Despite my confusion about the new characters and setting, I thoroughly enjoyed the new aspects centred around the killing game. I disliked many of the new characters, they were hostile and the ones I liked were killed before I got to know them. I found the opening to have a really appealing style that is unique from the games however, I find danganronpa the animation's opening is more exciting and captures the style of the games flawlessly. It took a bit of time getting used to the new animation style from the original animation to the future arc. However, the character design is extremely boring and grey. Especially when compared to the character designs of the game. The story did not portray themes or deeper meaning, I still find it unique and stands out from other anime.

Well, this wasn't the worst season but also not the best after all. To understand the content of this season you have to see season 1 and the season "Zetsubou-hen". Knowing the non-animated game would be of the "ADVANTAGE" is not necessary to be able to follow the plot, because the anime explains well and the ova also contributes to it. This part is also the end of the series. After the disappointing result of "Zetsubou-hen", I was unfortunately skeptical about how the series would continue, but the season "Mirai-hen" saved it a little bit. In the end, it was nothing impressive and this season couldn't create any tension, let alone be convincing. Another problem is that the characters were too unsteady. On the one hand, you could see that they were trying to develop their personality. On the other hand, it took off again. Fan service was not forgotten here either. Story: The story of "Mirai-hen" happened a few years after the events of season 1. The "Future Foundation" members were captured by Monokuma and forced to play a new killing game. Each member received a bracelet that added an interesting additional factor to the game. And from there began the search for the traitor, the blossoming of intrigue and the story of despair in which hope killed hope. A very interesting concept. The true identity of the Traitor wasn't this awful. Besides, the cliffhangers came at the end of almost every episode, which stimulated the tension even more. The interesting dialogues, monologues, the relationships between characters, the conflicts that arose, and the confusion and distrust that moved this Title. In the end, this season tried the same thing as Season 1 did but failed. Animation / pictures: The animations really positively changed this season and that. The actual drawing style of the series has been retained, but the caliber of animations has undoubtedly evolved. And the atmosphere was hit well enough. I was also surprised that the blood turned red. The actual biggest twist here. Characters: The characters and the story impressed me the most in this season. There were survivors from season 1, who continued to play their own roles and had done well. In particular, the focus was on the protagonist. But it wasn't just with them, there were also characters from Zetsubou-hen who would also have their own roles. Along with background stories, dialogues, and monologues, a satisfactory game between the characters was delivered. However, if the characters only had some depth of character, it would have improved the whole thing significantly. Music: As expected, the opening was a success, both in terms of design and music. Especially as it has not spoiled as always and did not give any important information to the outside. I also found the ending quite pleasant, as were the vocals. The soundtracks were sometimes mild as in the predecessors, but were also quite pleasant and matched the style of the series. In conclusion, the series had its strengths and was somehow able to hold on. In the sense that it was character relationships with one another. How which character reacts and how they react to each other in certain situations. This was by far the only strong point of this anime. In the end, the first season was the only one that could actually still be convincing.

The anime is around a 7 for me. There were some aspects that were good, and others that were simply subpar. *****THIS WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS****** The main reason I wrote this review -- the characters: The newly added characters aren't developed at all. Makoto: Don't expect his personality to change. He's still the same from DR1. Shy, slow-witted, idealistic. Nothing memorable from him. He could've been made more potent by being smarter, taking reasonable actions, and doing anything instead of shouting out hope jargon. Munakata points this out by saying mere platitudes won't save the world. You have to actually do something. Which brings me to discuss his character. He's ok and somewhat fleshed out by his motives, but nothing original since the writers set him up as "the person who went to far to achieve their goals." Next is Ruruka. Her entire character is built on the "manipulative friend" trope and nothing beyond that. Her boyfriend, Izayoi, is worse. He doesn't have a realistic range of emotions outside of being stoic. Humans are rarely indifferent, and if they are, they have a reason. We're given no reason for Izayoi. He has no motives outside of accompanying Ruruka simply because their a couple. He has no backstory, either. So basically he is a plot device. There is also a scene between them where Ruruka betrays him because "she doesn't want to get backstabbed." Izayoi says "It's not betrayal." This is supposed to be emotional, but all I'm seeing here is stupidity. We don't feel emotion because all we see is a trope and a plot device spit out their lines. And they aren't fleshed out properly. Next is Ryota Mitaroi. He doesn't have a good motive. His motive is saving the world...with anime. In what reality would anime do to save people from the despair(i.e. poverty and death)? He has a realistic personality at least that I can relate to: being timid. I have nothing else to say about him. He doesn't contribute much other than being a potential anti-hero when he tries to "save the world with anime." Again, another "went to far to achieve their goal" trope. Hiro: Bumbling idiot/comic relief. Same as DR1. Characterization doesn't really matter since he isn't part of the main cast; but would have liked him to add a bit more maturity. Seiko: She was kind of cute and I was urging her on to beat Ruruka. I liked her character. She was smart and reserved. Nothing memorable, but heavily relatable. Kyoko: I liked seeing her deductions. She is a reasonable and understandable character. We know her backstory and why she acts stoic(DR1). Didn't like how she was saying platitudes with Makoto. Maybe this was supposed to be her further characterization. Asahina: She has a realistic sense of morality and range of emotion. Hasn't changed much, but I'll give her a donut. Tengan: Don't have much to report on him. He is extremely smart... Juzo: He wanted to kill Makoto because Munakata said so. Juzo is prideful and loyal. He saved them all even though he didn't care for the cast and he got stabbed by Munakata, his friend since high school. Why did he save them? Plot. Chisa: She had a nice personality, but she died before the first episode ended. I'd add more examples, but I don't want to bore everyone. The rest of the characters die without any impact and barely have witty lines or character. You just become numb to the death before the halfway mark. The only reason they die is for shock value, which you should never do in your story. It's just a cheap way to evoke emotion. I'm certainly not feeling bad. While I was watching the anime, my face was like Kyoko's: stoic as a brick. My face is stoic right now while I'm writing this review. I don't have much to say about the art and sound, but I rated them both 8/10. I liked the dark and gritty setting, and was singing along with the opening song. Didn't like the ending song though. I'd rate story a 6/10: Fair. If you watched/played the games., the you don't need to watch the arcs since it adds nothing to the mainline games and just adds more questions. I was expecting a lot from this anime, but it mostly felt underwhelming. I can kind of understand this story and why is was created. Just wished they toned down the optimism because it was getting jarringly unrealistic. I liked the plot twist but disliked how they executed it with an anticlimactic reason. Overall, don't come into this anime expecting a satisfying conclusion to our beloved series of Danganronpa. But you should still watch it to see some interesting aspects like the forbidden actions and different definitions of hope.

While not the best story in Danganronpa, Side Future was a lot better than I thought it was. Compared to Dangaronpa the Animation, this was relatively better paced in its story beats and characters which was probably because it's an after story rather than a direct game adaptation. Sixteen characters both old and new were trapped in the Future Foundation HQ as Monokuma announced that there's a traitor among them. In context with Dangaronpa's internal logic, Side Future revealed a whole new level of messed up characters and decisions, this time through the cynical adults of the Future Foundation. The stakes were high and engaging because unlike the trials at Hope's Peak there are no rules. Sound judgement was nonexistent since episode 1. The only rule that existed was trust no one. The characters were okay and I enjoyed watching them interact with one another. My only nitpick was that not all the 16 characters got enough screen time to be fleshed out. Certain characters were unredeemable to a fault and while I understood how messed up these people were given the situation, some of their decisions made no sense. Production was okay. While there won't be epic animated fight scenes, the show did well with establishing its atmosphere thanks to its cinematography, lighting, and color. Voice performances were also great. The OST and OP were awesome. If you've seen The Animation, don't miss Danganronpa 3.

[SPOILERS...AGAIN!] Ahhhhhhhh, yes. The OTHER side of the Danganronpa 3 coin: Future. Let's hop right into this. Story: 6/10 Surprisingly, the story on this side is quite a bit better than the Despair Arc's story. It makes a bit more sense and the characters overall are a lot more...likable weirdly compared to the DR2 versions of some of these guys (since some of them crossover between both.) I liked the callback moments to Danganronpa 1 (since it's story overall WAS better than 2's, at least in my opinion) and was a bit easier to understand in terms of HOW it connects to the games. Still not GODLY for a story, but for what it was, it was good. The characters act appropriately and aren't too out of character (in the case of all the returning characters, which I adore because they were genuinely well handled.) Visuals: 7/10 Once again, there's some good art here...and I absolutely LOVE Makoto in a Tuxedo. To be serious though, the designs for all of the characters looks fine enough (even if the original characters are a bit bland.) There's A LOT of red being used and while I think it looks nice, it gets repetitive seeing it all again by the end, definitely watch Despair Arc along with this as a color-palette cleanser. Animations for the fights that happen here are alright, nothing spectacular, but nice...even if it DOES feel a little out of place for something like Danganronpa. Sound: 7/10 Once again, good voices for the sub (didn't watch the dub because of how TRASH Monokuma's voice was...seriously, his voice is THAT BAD. The English dub voices are good to from what I've heard of them.) The soundtrack has some songs from the games again and some original pieces just like the Despair Arc and its all good, nothing crazy though. Overall: 7/10 This one...is better than Despair Arc by a little bit, mostly in terms of the story. I'm a little more forgiving though towards this Arc probably because of the fact I like Danganronpa more than 2, but that shouldn't influence this score really at all. For it is, it's an alright show to add onto the story of the games...it's just a shame there really wasn't a good to get this anime adapted into a game. This one's also for Danganronpa super-fans only.

while everyone else was upset that there wasn't a danganrompa 2 i found myself thoroughly enjoying Danganrompa 3. The art while being unorthodox i thought added a lot to the series and mixed with the amazing animemation made this show a feast for your eyes. All characters in Danganrompa 3 are interesting and have there seperate reasons for hating despair and make you hate it just as much as them you never know who you wanna root for and the show makes it impossible to hate almost anyone. The sound is very good and with great music accompanying it makes for a great experience. The story isn't the best part of Danganrompa 3 but isn't at any rate. I found this show exceedingly enjoyable. I conclude that Danganrompa is a great show and everyone should give it a watch after Danganrompa 1.

This was one of those anime I started ages ago, watched about half of the first season… and then completely forgot about. It just slipped out of my mind somehow. But now that I finally came back to it, I’m actually really satisfied with the whole experience. I won’t lie, the episode order and the continuation were confusing at times. The structure is chaotic, the pacing jumps around, and sometimes you’re just sitting there like “wait… what?” But once I pushed through and finished it, I ended up being pleasantly surprised ^^ The twists, the characters, the insane atmosphere, it all came together in a way that made the return totally worth it. I’m glad I gave it another chance, because the ending hit way better than I expected. A messy journey, but a surprisingly rewarding one.

First of all, this show contains massive spoilers for Danganronpa 1 & 2, so don't watch the show or read this review unless you've played those games. This is better than the despair arc, but still not great. Story 6/10: It works, the killing game follows different rules compared to Danganronpa 1 & 2, and there are a few twists that are kinda good. It's not outstanding though. Art 6/10: Nothing outstanding, but it doesn't look bad at all. Sound 5/10: Just like with the despair arc, video game music is great, but it doesn't really fit in anime. Character 6/10: Can't say much, the characters worked, they had a few layers even if they where thin, I can't really complain. Enjoymen 7/10: I'd definitely say I enjoyed this more than the despair arc, but its nowhere near the top of what I've seen. Overall 6/10: Most episodes where either good or ok, there where a few straight up bad episodes though. I can probably recommend this to fans of Danganronpa without much thought.

this review is about every arc. no spoilers. - - - i loved the danganronpa games when i was a preteen/young teenager. the second one is by far my favorite, so when i heard that the characters first introduced in it were going to be the center of a brand new anime i was BEYOND ecstatic. i remember quite literally shaking with excitement seeing the first promo images, and the first trailer. i waited patiently until it aired all the way through like i always do. i avoided spoilers like the plague, unlike what i had done for the games. i was so pumped, until i actually sat down to watch it. it hurt to look at anything other than the subtitles (the dub is horrendous by the way). the way certain characters were deformed to look nothing like they used to completely takes away from the experience if you're a series veteran. my favorite character, nekomaru, is one of the most egregious examples of this; his head looks like someone squished it inwards and his once-characteristic color palette is muddy and ugly. his proportions are also even more exaggerated than they previously were, somehow managing to make him look less like a high school student than the in game sprites did. actually, the muddy and ugly color palette can be seen everywhere, not just on the characters. what made the second game in the original danganronpa series so great was how vibrant it always was regardless of the situations the characters got into. the intro movie has upbeat, catchy music and very cliché-yet-cute camera angles and visual effects. seeing the characters from such a visually pleasing series be reduced to depressing shells of their former selves is jarring to say the least. i can't say much about the story without spoiling anything. just know that, in my opinion, the pacing isn't the greatest and the "new" characters (new to the setting, not the series) that stick around until the end range from being mediocre to hatebait. if you've played the second danganronpa game and enjoyed everything about it as much as i did, steer clear. this is a major disappointment.

[MINOR SPOILERS if you care; also covering bits of Hope Arc] Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School – Future Arc is an anime meant to serve as the conclusion to the Hope’s Peak series of Danganronpa games, which excludes Danganronpa V3. It is set years after the first game, possibly directly after the second game and somewhat after Ultra Despair Girls. The Future Arc, however, was one that I found to be ultimately unnecessary to the plot yet enjoyable nonetheless. Before I make the same complaints about the story that everyone else has already made, I’d like to appreciate some of the aspects I liked. The music was a master class, particularly the OP and ED. All tracks fit their situations well and carried over the vibes that were present in previous Danganronpa games. I also really like the art-style and animation of the show. Albeit slightly unconventional and differing to a great extent from the games, it is still very nice to look at. The character designs are, as expected of Danganronpa, all very distinct to the point where it is very easy to distinguish each character’s personality simply by looking at an image of them. Shifting to more of a nitpick, the voice acting in the English dub was rather disorienting. None of the voice actors from the games reprise their roles in this anime save for Makoto, meaning that Kyoko, Hina, Byakuya, Yasuhiro, Monokuma, Toko, and Komaru’s voices will all take a while getting used to if you played the games in dub. Monokuma’s voice is probably the most unbearable out of all of them (it’s upupu not nyeh nyeh nyeh are you fucking papyrus). From what I have heard, this is not the case in the Japanese version, where all of the original voice actors reprise their roles in the anime. However, many of the voice actors for anime-only characters fit their respective characters rather well and do not sound out of place. Now the story is rather interesting. It starts with a connection to Danganronpa 2, in which it was mentioned that Makoto Naegi committed an act of treason to the Future Foundation, which he and the other survivors of the killing game joined after escaping. He is brought in for trial along with a few of his friends from the first killing game to a meeting of members of the foundation. However, another killing game begins there; slightly different from the others. Although I am not entirely opposed to this approach, the entire story seems rather unnecessary. I understand that many loose ends were left by Danganronpa 2 and Ultra Despair Girls and so some sort of conclusion was needed by the fans, but I just can’t help saying, “What’s the point of all this?” while watching. This feeling was only intensified by the end of the series, as certain important events (such as deaths) were just dismissed with “lmaoooo jk they’re gud bro.” It makes this entire thing practically meaningless. However, I still enjoyed it as it made a great effort to conclude Danganronpa and there were many really well-done scenes. I also didn’t find a lot of the characters very good. Some obvious exceptions are Makoto, Kyoko, Kazuo Tengen, Kyosuke Munakata, Juzo Sakakura, and a couple others, but for the most part, many characters were either unnecessary or completely nonsensical. They were only there for the ride. Their motivations seem to come out of nowhere—if you’re just watching the Future Arc and not simultaneously watching the Despair Arc in what is a really unorthodox watch order—and the actions they take are so ridiculously far from the best thing they could have done that it’s infuriating. For instance, everything about Ruruka, Izayoi, and Kimura was dumb. Petty grudges drove them to do stupid things. Meanwhile, you have characters such as Makoto and Munakata with actual character development as a result of the events that occur that doesn’t completely destroy what they stand for. I found the [SPOILERS BEGIN] scene with Makoto and the brainwashing TV really good. It shows that he still carries survivor’s guilt from the previous killing game and is a nice addition to him. [SPOILERS END] Danganronpa 3 – Future Arc did not start off terrible, yet by the end, I was left with a feeling that what I had just watched was meaningless. I was not entirely opposed to the concept, however. In fact, I rather enjoyed Future Arc as a conclusion to the Hope’s Peak series of Danganronpa stories. It had plently of action and drama to keep me entertained throughout, which was enough to distract me from the somewhat disappointing plot. If you liked the previous games, I highly recommend watching this and Despair Arc.
