TouMAN
A modest echo of Natsume Yuujinchou—and that’s not a bad thing. This series offers an intriguing premise and compelling characters, set in a world where modern-day Japan intertwines with the realm of Yokai. While this theme is a familiar one in anime and manga, I consider this particular take among the stronger interpretations—alongside Natsume Yuujinchou and Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi. The lead characters are well-written and engaging, though the supporting cast is sparse and largely underdeveloped. A few exceptions receive some attention, but even then, their growth tends to be confined to single episodes. Ultimately, the show’s greatest strength lies in its world-building: richly detailed, thoughtfully constructed, and vividly portrayed. Characters: 7/10 I have no major complaints aside from the limited and somewhat lackluster supporting cast. Still, this feels like a significant weakness. Character Development: 6/10 There is some growth, but it's mostly reserved for the main roster. I'd say this is the show's most noticeable shortcoming. World: 8/10 A compelling setting, rich in customs and cultural nuance. Easily one of the show’s standout strengths. Overall: 7/10 It’s not a top-tier anime, but it’s also not trying to be. It knows what it is—and I’d gladly watch more of it.
