Ajin: Demi-Human Season 2

I love how season 2 has wrapped up the dark and empathetic series of Ajin. Like a good story should, I feel this has explored the immorality of discrimination and questioned how we perceive and value life through the gritty and emotional experiences of the protagonist. For some extra background, I had previously written the following for series 1. Season 2 has followed through seamlessly, so this extra content applies to season 2: I was drawn to the unique artistic style, the bloody and dark stills foreboding a gritty story about death and suffering. I personally quite liked the artistic style, though at times the quality was not superb. The story explores how life is both valued and discriminated, wanted, wasted, and envied; Characters show derisive views of others or of themselves to hammer home moral lessons. We follow the protagonist through their struggle which takes them from a mindset of "I just want to be an upstanding person", to a discriminated inhuman life form, and wanted criminal, through no fault of their own.

13 episodes ------- 7.5 / 10 Quick Impression: A season well loaded with action, despite having a mostly original script (filler), still carried tension and action in the right measure. Satou remains a great villain of the kind who just wants to see chaos (to his own fun) happen. Seems kinda a Christopher Nolan joker from the anime genera. The plot did not go far from the basics, but supporting a good narrative. The good: - It manages to maintain interest in the narrative built last season. -well developed in terms of script (despite being mostly filler). -3D animation doesn't bother so much. - Good sound design and soundtrack. The bad: - Static Ajin phatom fights - slow pace - gives the impression that the end is the middle of a season. (again, but this time a good cliff hanger tho) Overvall a fun second season.

So, I think the second season was just as good as the first, when it comes to the characters that is, and the amount of gore that this anime has made it all the well enjoyable for me, at least that is what I think, as for the art, I really don't like the cel-shading art style in anime, at first I will not lie, especially when it comes to anime, the art style actually made me not want to even watch the anime, but after the very first episode I actually got really into it despite the way it looked, I guess you really cannot judge a book by it's cover. The gore, action, and characters personality traits more then made up for the art style that was chosen for this particular anime.

While this is just for Ajin s2, my opinions of Ajin overall apply here. From the beginning, I was intrigued by it right away. The entire idea of it was very interesting to me. All the characters were likable for me (well, maybe except for Sato; the guy frustrated me to no end! Though I'm sure that's what he was supposed to do) and I was interested in what would happen to all of them. Kei, Kai, and Kou were the ones that interested me the most. I was one of the people who wasn't turned off by the CGI Ajin provided. That said, I still rated the art an 8. It was good, but it wasn't anything that was especially fancy. I just believe that the CGI is definitely not a reason to dislike this anime especially with the story it provides. The story is loosely about civil rights, war, and terrorism and I think that's made quite clear in every moment of Ajin. Sato is a terrorist that drove me to confusion at how he knew every outcome of their plans and how he was never fazed by anything even until the very end. It made the feelings of frustration very real on my end too. Overall, I definitely recommend Ajin to anyone who may be intrigued by it or hear about it from someone else. It was 100% a show I enjoyed from moment to end.

i watched the entire season the day it came out. meaning, i dedicated an entire day watching this season - that's how much anticipation i had built up for this season. and it was worth it; for the most part, at least. after i watched this season, i began reading the manga. and though i knew this season went in a completely different direction of the manga, i still found it enjoyable. not as good as the first season, but still enjoyable. it still has those moments (there's no shortage- trust me) where you question kei's choices, so i'm glad they kept the same vibe. i'm not giving this a higher score because one: it doesn't follow the manga *at all,* which at this point i really wish it had, because it would have just made more sense instead of adding a bunch of filler. and two: not leaving me on a fucking cliffhanger. it was honestly just as good as the first season.

For an anime that started so strong in its first season, the second season really is a letdown. In season 1, the Ajin had a bit of mystery, and even the characters were somewhat mysterious. You were given the time and scenes to figure them out. What are their reasons for doing what they do? What are their ideas, philosophies? And with this supernatural phenomena of immortality and the ability to call upon a very potent companion, how should it be treated? None of this is further expanded upon the second season. The CGI animation is still pretty good, for CGI, but the emotional performances are carried by the voice actors rather than by the visuals. The style and color palette are also quite basic, but with CGI I get that they went on this route. It is packed with action though, and the action does not disappoint. But that is the only thing this second season has going for it in my opinion. The second season becomes a lackluster cliché terrorist crime drama. The Ajin's existence are not explored, which I thought they would after season one. But letting some supernatural power stay an obscure mystery is fine by me. But nothing interesting is done with it for the rest of season two. Ajin on both sides use their immortality, and use their ghost to do some simple tasks or battle moves. It could have been so much more creative though, especially in the action scenes. If the Ajin powers were used more creatively, I could have said you could have watched this anime for the cool action. But Ajin are a mere tool, used as a blunt axe. Sure the terrorist group exists because Ajin came into existence, but otherwise the show might as well be the most generic good guys vs bad terrorists action series, with a new toy to play with. If you have seen season one and you want to start season two, you can give it a try. But if you notice you do not like it after two maybe three episodes, just drop it, it is not gonna get better. If you are someone who is wondering whether to start season one, I am not going to recommend this anime. You are far better off watching other more fun and interesting anime, which there are plenty of, than this CGI mid tier action trap.

I'm fine with 3D CGI, but getting used to it is hard. Despite the impressive action sequences and special effects, the close-up facial animations and emotional performances leave much to be desired. It's a shame to see such an engrossing story suffer from such lackluster animation. While the voice actors do a commendable job of carrying the emotional weight, it's still a reminder that more progress needs to be made in this area. Overall, I'm left with the same feeling I had all this time that there's still much work to be done in the realm of 3D CGI animation for anime. Nonetheless, Ajin's story is undeniably impressive. The characters are captivating and brilliantly written, the action is exhilarating, and the plot is well-paced. The twists and turns come thick and fast but never too rapidly to overwhelm me. The nature of the Ajin and their relationship with the world serves as a compelling reason for the events that occur but not as the main focus. Additionally, Sato's motives lack a grand strategy, and instead, the story takes a more immediate, visceral, and condensed approach that fits perfectly within the thirteen episodes. Sato and his group of immortal terrorists have set their sights on nothing short of overthrowing the government. They are carrying out a series of cunning assassinations, but their true plan is far more sinister than that. Kei and Nakano have teamed up with Tosaka's anti-Ajin organization to take down Sato, believing that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." However, personality clashes are inevitable when government officials have to work alongside two Ajin with whom they've previously had conflicts. Sato is brazenly announcing his plans to the world, taking inspiration from the book of John "Hannibal" Smith from the A-Team. Fortunately, they have access to his assassination target list and plan to ambush him at a predictable event. Kei and Nakano have been training while they wait for the opportune moment to take down Sato. In the end, things never go as planned, and the stakes only get higher for the story's climax. The story has that "one-episode-more" compulsion that got me binge-watching. I was thoroughly hooked throughout and didn't even mind the obvious plea for another season that came after the conclusion. While there are a couple of provocative loose ends, the only disappointing aspect is the way Kai becomes a throwaway character by the end of the show and how Kei's sister is only used as narrative breathing space, someone to cut to when they need to ease up on the action. If you're someone who usually turns their nose up at 3D CG anime, then I highly recommend making an exception for Ajin. It's definitely worth giving a chance, and you might be pleasantly surprised.

I finally watched this anime and it was a whirlwind. I wish I'd watched it sooner and I would recommend it to others. Housekeeping: I rated season 1 as a 9 and season 2 as an 8. Season 1 had far better soundtrack and both seasons have pretty terrible animation. Personally, I suffered through the animation for the pretty awesome story. I do appreciate that season 1 felt so... complete. Season 2 I was hoping for us to finally see Sato captured and subdued for at least a little while. At the end of season 2 I found myself really annoyed with his character.

Second season of Ajin is an expected improvement. I say expected because first season was almost completely just character building and preparation for the second one, so this one should naturally be better as things will start happening here. Animation is still weird, but passable, story is still trying too hard and characters are constantly bordering over being interesting and being too much. Our main character finally gets some redeemable qualities, but it's too late. Basically, whole running time of season two you are looking forward to it's finale which promises a cool confrontation between Sato and our protagonists and it's a long way to it. But, when it finally arrives, it's over pretty quickly, it's not all that spectacular and the series ends with a cliffhanger. Season does have it's moments, but they are too spread out and I was relieved when the whole thing was over. I still don't think this is a bad anime, and it may be liked more by someone with taster different than my mine, so I give the second season a slightly bigger score than the first one. 7.5/10! However, I recommend this only if you like this sort of serious wannabe stuff.

You should just read the manga to continue the story honestly. The anime adaptation is good and all, but the story and choices in the anime is wonky. The ending was quite rushed and it feels like the characters were watered down. You should just read the manga to continue the story honestly. The manga will feel a lot more grounded and expands on the characters a bit more. Especially on one of the characters the anime felt was leading up to something, or to just do nothing with it. The anime was made before the manga chapters were made though, so you get pretty much 2 stories.

My only complaints as of far, are the art style which I rated high contrary to my actual feelings because I think what they were going for was an anime that was 3d at the same frame rate as a 2d anime, and the mystery surrounding sato, regardless of what branch and background. Im only on episode 10 of season 2 but I can say that I believe that sato, even with his name that has irish origins, would've been an American , based of the trend of the show. and judging by fighting style and composure, he must have been an Air Force Paratrooper. I was originally thinking navy seal until I remembered that he kept a crew member based off their familiarity with fire arms. a seal wouldn't have need that, however a paratrooper is the only AFSC that would've had less weapon familiarity and more hand to hand combat training than any other branch/field.

An Anime where the greatest strengths are found in the action component and in the charismatic Satou-Kun: with regard to the action scenes, although not accompanied by a dynamic direction, they are still pleasant to look at and presenting in some cases interesting plot twists. I consider Satou-kun's character an exceptional villain: cynical, crazy, unpredictable and nihilistic. Apart from him, the writing of the rest of the characters is quite disappointing (especially the protagonist who changes his mind too quickly resulting excessively inconsistent). Another negative point is found in the animation in CGI, which outside of the action scenes is annoying, unlike the soundtrack that is always spot on.

REVIEW (for the 2 seasons): An anime with a very interesting proposal and story and a captivating villain. What gets in the way a little is the 3D animation, which was still emerging as a new animation technique, causing some initial strangeness, but there is fluidity in the movement. The characters and the story develop well, with development in the characters and deepening in the antagonists. Dealing with more serious matters, with a good Seinen. The action happens in a good measure, in a well-choreographed way and with several heavy scenes.

*No Spoilers* This review is for Part 2 of the anime, Ajin: Demi-Human. Summary: Ajin: Demi-Human is an anime based on Gaimon Sakurai’s manga of the same name. This review is for Part 2 of the series, which strays completely from the source material and is far inferior to the original contentl. Ajin: Demi-Human takes place in modern society, except some people have the power to regenerate after they die. The story is intense and posits many questions about persecution and social challenges. Overall, the anime is an excellent sci-fi story. This story is definitely dark, so it may not be suitable for younger anime fans or anyone looking to try anime for the first time. Story: 4/10 The plot of the story is unique and intriguing: It takes elements of sci-fi and modern society to illustrate a witch hunt or persecutory mentality. The world-building is effective in presenting the society in which the characters live, and the plot is influenced by the characters’ decisions, making the story more worthwhile. In addition, there are some pretty funny jokes in this anime. Part 2 has an engaging, suspenseful plot, although the main character’s behaviors are even more jarring than in Part 1. Additionally, the finale of Part 2 feels extremely rushed, and (no spoilers) the powers that the main character loses and gains control over aren’t fleshed out well. This anime is not closely based of the manga source material, and it shows. Art: 6/10 The art style is fitting for the story. The detail in the background is average, and the “monsters” are well-adapted from the manga. Overall, the anime maintains the dark and harsh art of the manga. I especially enjoyed the detail in the characters’ facial expressions. Sound: 6/10 The background music is fitting and the voice acting is sufficient. The ending song for Part 2 is phenomenal. Character: 3/10 One of the challenges with the show is the inconsistencies with the main character. Many of the side characters have more telling dialogue and behaviors, whereas Kei Nagai seems unpredictable, particularly in Part 2. His patterns are also more sporadically based on the plot in Part 2 which makes the story trickier to follow. The support characters tend to be more interesting, relatable, and develop more consistently than Kei. They are fleshed out nicely in Part 2. Overall, the characters are average because the main character weighs down the support characters. The characters do pale in comparison to their counterparts in the manga. Enjoyment: 5/10 This was a Netflix anime that I actually enjoyed because of its dark premise and themes. Although the story itself diverged completely from the manga, it is still fun to watch and quite suspenseful. The biggest challenge was how the final episode felt rammed together and rushed. Overall: 4.8/10 This is an anime that has an exciting plot, but the main character weighs it down. Overall, I believe it is of above-average quality.
