Owarimonogatari Second Season

tl;dr: An ending that ties together everything built up over the course of the franchise quite well, but that suffers from already having been built up to too much. Owarimonogatari feels a lot like the ending to Monogatari. I know there’s Zoku Monogatari after this, but I have no idea how that’ll go as this season seems to resolve essentially everything that needed to be resolved, reveal all the big twists that needed to be revealed, and complete Araragi’s character arc. This season is seven episodes with three arcs. The first is heavily plot centered and spends most of it’s time simply revealing plot related information on what had already occurred in addition to setting up plot elements to be used in the future, though it does manage to highlight how much Araragi was still Araragi even if he had changed, which is a constant theme throughout the season. The second arc is centered around Senjougahara, or more specifically relationship development with Senjougahara. To be honest, I think her character and her relationship with Araragi have been pretty weak throughout this whole series considering she should be the main heroine but very rarely played a part beyond the beginning, and the parts that did involve her didn’t involve her relationship with Araragi at all really, thus making the major development that did occur in both of them feel kind of spontaneous. This two episode arc certainly isn’t enough to make up for that, but it was still appreciated. This arc also has some development in terms of Ougi, though it’s mostly just setting the stage for the final arc. The third arc is the true meat of this season, wherein it finally capitalizes on everything it’s been building up since pretty much the beginning of the second season of novels. The mysteries behind Ougi are finally revealed and very explicitly tied to Araragi in such a way that the conclusion also results in what feels like a really solid finish to his character arc. Plot wise though, it felt a bit lacking as due to Hanamonogatari you pretty much know exactly how the plot is going to play out. Ultimately, all of these arcs are incredibly straight forward and simply finish doing what they’ve slowly been building up to for quite some time, so both thematically and in terms of plot they’re really not surprising at all and incredibly predictable. They do hit a lot of great notes and ultimately feel like a pretty solid way to end Araragi’s story, but at the same time, it still feels like the season was playing it overtly safe. Everything up to this point may have built things up too well, as nothing over the course of the season felt especially shocking or interesting. Araragi does grow, but it’s growth that at this point feels very in character and not really the type of growth that changes the viewers perception of them or really pulls in the viewer. I suppose after so long with these characters, especially the main character Araragi who is in the focus, it would be strange if they were still performing actions that were all that shocking. But at the same time, it does make things kind of dull. Especially as it felt that because this season was so plot oriented it had less time to spend on just plain comedic or amusing portions which managed to hold up the less interesting portions in prior arcs. That there’s another arc after this actually somewhat does give me hope that it’ll pull something crazy and interesting at the last second, because while it was fairly easy to see what would happen this season more or less before watching based on the themes and plot that had been built up to this point, everything built up has been dealt with and it really feels there’s a blank slate on where the story can go after this. The art and animation are pretty similar to how they’ve been recently with Monogatari. They’ve been changed up a bit, but the changes aren’t at the level of previous shifts so they don’t really feel like they’re enough to keep the sense of being visually interesting in and of itself. The OPs were all pretty solid, especially the third one. The instrumental of that being used during the last episode was done incredibly well, though beyond that the soundtrack didn’t really stand out. The ED was also really solid though fairly standard for Monogatari at this point.

Finally, a conclusion to the adventure of araragi koyomi and his fellow friends. I started this series at the start of this winter vacation, and I have to say, it really was a mind blowing experience. Owarimonogatari is the final story of the monogatari series, and it does it's job of summing everything up very well. The introduction to the new character: Ougi Oshino was a way for araragi to finally confront his own weaknesses, as well as finally maturing and caring for himself. Without going into spoilers, Ougi is in a sense used as a plot device for araragi to truly realize the words of Meme oshino from the very begining of this series. "The only people that can help you is yourself" The second season of Owarimonogatari truly takes the theme of self appreciation and love to transform into a final masterpiece of a closing act. For all those who loved the rest of the monogatari series, this is certainly a very happy conclusion that is also very satisfying at the same time. I wish this wonderful series farewell, and thank it for all the lessons it has taught me, this was truly a mind opening experience.

Owarimonogatari 2 is, for all intents and purposes, one of the best conclusions to a story I've seen in media. There's something about this conclusion that's just different from others. With most series that end, there's that sense of "Emptiness" you feel. If you can describe that feeling with a phrase, it would be, "I wish it never ended.". However, Monogatari's conclusion does not instill that feeling in me, contrary to other anime's out there. Its ending leaves me completely satisfied, and with a smile on my face. I have no regrets, and I can move on from the series without any trace of sadness, which coincidentally, is also this season's theme. After a long running 8 years of Monogatari, the story of Koyomi Araragi finally comes to a close. Themes, narrative, and character motives all come full circle. I couldn't have asked for a better ending to a story. Although this may be the ending to "a" story, it doesn't mean it's the ending to "the" story ;)

This was the perfect ending to a perfect show. I am very happy about how it was handled. I was surprised but it was truly genius. Spoilers: I have some remarks about the role of Ougi from now we will also dig into spoiler territory. I didn't expected Ougi to be a product of Araragis self criticism. I expected Ougi to be the darkness that lies in everyone's heart's. The side that doubts the side that loathe the part of us almost everyone experiences. The monogatari series is all about the representation of teenage worries represented in a physical form , they are called monsters in the show. When I thought about Araragies depression , it's only natural to expect shinibu. Everything about her design reeks of depression. The energy drain literally sucking the life out of you. The temptation that slefloath brings with it. When Araragie dies it means shinobh is at full power, meaning he killed him self and depression got the best of him. So I think shinobh as a stylistic choice is better fitted as the representation of dark Araragie. It was clear that Ougi was the Endboss of the show. It wrapped things up nicely. Linking Ougi directly to Araragie was kind of genius, because in saving her meaning saving him self was a very important growth he needed. In the show he was willing to throw is life away every single time, having no self worth. But on the other side, he is saving the bad part of him the manifestation of his self criticism. And in the way he saved her he almost died again so growth that was intended contradicts itself... Like I said , my interpretation of Ougi as the darkness that lies inside everyone makes more sense for myself, but it's only a personal opinion. Other parts I enjoyed about the story: There is a inner logic to explanations I very much enjoy. Like Ougi was created due to the Araragis powers as a vampire . Or Araragie is very attractive because of the immortal powers of a Vampire. The world that gets built up little over the course of the series get tied up nicely later. Little details like kanbarus mother are used up seasons later. Observant viewers are rewarded. I see many similarities to the "hero's journey" . For example "call to advanture ", when Araragie finds shinubu in the underground station."death" and "resurrection" are obvious. The characters are realistic . They experience setbacks like hanekawa that turns to the meddlecat again. It prevents character breaks and make the characters relatable. There are way to many things I love about this show. Anyway I love the whole monogatari series it is philosophic it is interesting it is different it is one of my favourite shows of all time . 10/10

I did not think that this story turned out to be a blessing from "Koyomimonogatari" I even forgot that Araragi was dead. but with the meeting again araragi and mayoi (even though in hell) this makes me more excited to watch this program. figurative words that are often used, meaningful sentences, and things that make the audience think heavily is the extraordinary attraction of this anime .. there may have been a lot of spectators who longed for mayoi jokes "sorry my tongue was bitten". really the charm of extraordinary comedy for me. Terminal terminal songs (first opening) are still ringing in my head at this time. the main star now is ougi-chan, a very mysterious character with a sweet smile and looks so smart and knows a lot of things. this story is increasingly thrilling in each episode. so excited me. the best part is when Araragi saves Ougi-chan. this part makes ougi-chan look so smart by acknowledging that "she's not a woman". even so, I think he is not really that much because she is someone who will criticize Araragi so she certainly knows that all those who have been saved by Araragi are girls. ougi-chan who prefers not to be saved will certainly choose to lie to Araragi. that's my view after seeing the nature of ougi-chan in the other monogatari series and the mindset of Ougi-chan itself. I thought I would be very disappointed with her confession so that I sought the intent of the words and my conclusion was that she was lying. but it was something like this that made me very happy with the monogatari series. which gives me the opportunity to think like this. XD and lastly, I never thought I'd be so fascinated by the character of Ougi-chan. in the other series he looked normal and had no impact there. she is not a beautiful character. it's just that I just realized his specialness in her beautiful smile. of all the anime characters I've met, only his smile seemed so sincere. many anime producers present beautiful, large-breasted, small-bodied (loli), twin-tail, or other distinctive characters. but this character is very different. right, I really like this character. so is the mystery. the closing of this series is decorated with beautiful sentences from araragi koyomi and shinobu. for me it was one of the most beautiful closing of all the monogatari-series covers. I am very grateful to Nisio Isin for creating the masterpiece. I can only support and pray that Monogatari series can reach the top rating rating. i hope you understand what i mean. i just using google translate XD My english is too bad, but i wanna review this anime cause i love this anime very much.. thankyou Nisio Isin for yous story. >.<

Such a great year for Anime! Unfortunately, I am typically someone who is not in favor of giving alot of 10's. When too many start to pop up on my list, I raise the bar, and drop some off. The release of Owarimonogatari S2 raised that bar for me. Perhaps you've tried the Monogatari series out before and it wasn't for you. Between the fan service, confusing dialogue and lack of chronologic release, this is a tough story for anyone to get in to. The closest comparison I can make would be the Haruhi series and its' endless 8. Like Haruhi this series can drag and test your patience. However also like Haruhi, the conclusion to this series was a masterpiece. There is none of the Fan Service or Comedy saturation present in previous installations. Owari Season 2 is not playing games here, its just straight action and drama. From the very first scene, just seconds in to this conclusion you can immediately tell this is a cut above the others. A degree of effort and time was put in to this work of art that is worthy of a series that has grossed nearly $2 million USD per episode in DVD sales in Japan. It is worthy of the ranking it has on this site, it is not hype and its drop in rankings will not be significant as time drags on. This top 20 installment will stick for a while, trust me. If you look on the Japanese mail order sites you will notice that the final chapter, the 1 hour long "Ouigi Dark" is universally sold out still. I expect this will also remain true for some time. Story 8: Sure it didn't explain every little detail or plot hole, it also did not have to. Its ending was perfect, satisfying and bittersweet. Art 9: This is a series that has always given us high quality art. The color selections were revolutionary, and every scene came to life. Animation techniques were diverse. While we may not have gotten anything we haven't seen before in terms of animation or cinematography, everything we got was done extremely well and contributed to the story and overall tone; aesthetically speaking. Sound 10: If it would be possible to give 20/10 here I would give it. Its OP and ED's were catchy and the opening artwork was extremely symbolic and foreshadowed events to come without spoilers. More importantly however, the OST for these 7 episodes was longer and more diverse than most 100 episode anime. Fullmetal Alchemist:Brotherhood? In 7 episodes this series was more diverse. In terms of music theory, folks on,youtube are rapidly discovering that these OST tracks are technically complex and nearly impossible to arrange. They were really thinking outside the box musically. It might literally be the best OST in anime, pound for pound and I mean every word of that. Characters 8: Incredible character development, formerly 2d characters show 3d natures and every single individual we care about has changed in some, way as a result of the events that took place here. This is basically the golden rule. The #1 thing we should look for in order to find a 'great' character, this series has ALOT of great characters. Enjoyment 10: Enough said.. You need to watch this series. Preferably watching all of the "main" episodes last. First watch Kizumonogataro trilogy. Mark off Second season 6-9 and 14-17 followed by Owari s1 ep 8-13, koyomimonigatari episode 12 and this entire series to be watched LAST. Watch everything in the middle in order. You wont be disappointed by the HOURS of emotion and action that hit you when you dig into the Monogatari "main" plotline. Its worth every second of fanservice and painful dialogue to get there.

The monogatari series is known for having an unusually high number of characters take important roles throughout the story. In fact, as we have seen, each character possesses their own arc (excluding gaen's group of apparition specialists), and in this second season of owarimonogatari, we got to see almost each and everyone of them. My initial expectations were that this season would focus primarily on Ougi, and while it did, it also gave some really nice closure to other characters as well. But no matter how much I may like them, after watching this season I came to have an overbearing interest for Ougi. Back in 2015 when the first season came out, she was already adored by many, being called the best girl by them. To me however, she was just another well-written character, not some candidate for the best girl of the whole series. From what I had understood back then, she was clearly behind some schemes that made Araragi's life even harder for himself, and her speech sounded really suspicious at times. At the same time however, she also seemed to help him understand of the problems that were at hand at that time. For this reason, I didn't know exactly what to think of her, and gradually became more and more curious about her real identity, without any real clues as to what it was. The reason I couldn't ask for a better ending to this arc, is because her identity turned out to be something a lot more meaningful than I could have ever imagined. She did not only become my favorite character of the whole series, but she also became the foundation to a spectacular ending to an 8 year long anime full of rich storytelling. The voice actress behind her voice sang the third OP for this season, and it also turned out to be my favorite OP of the whole series, taking tsukimono's Orange Mint's spot. If you have been a fan of Kaori Mizuhashi for one of her works before, I hope you may enjoy this amazing and conclusive performance of her for the monogatari series, and continue to support her outstanding talent in the industry.

This is literally gods gift to this world for anyone who got this far into the show. They know it after going through the trenches of nisemonogatari's "schrodingers in**st". Most unique chet people would see with their own eyes How this entire series not being categorized as avant garde is beyond anyone and the goat Nisioisin himself For those who know the major weakness of this series being the diddyblud pedophilic stuff and STILL stuck through it knew the hidden potential ts had There will never be a more divided fanbase than this: the half that only watch ts to goon like the criminals they are and the soldiers who can experience the blessed miracle of shaft at their peak nvm they still at their peak This isnt even the end for this series. what other show u kno that got a soft ending like this and still continuing while not lowering in quality at the same time please release off and monster season 2 already

As an entry of this series, Owarimonogatari Second Season takes everything that makes the franchise special, such as the dialogue, psychological depth, character writing, emotional storytelling, and unique presentation, and delivers all of it at a very high level from start to finish. As a sequel, it continues with our main focus being on one of the best character dynamics in the series. The journey to this point is the culmination of everything the series had been building toward for years, making its payoff feel earned for our main character and the rest of the cast. Visually, it looks the same as previous entries in the series, having great and unique direction from Studio Shaft. The pacing fits well with the remaining three arcs, with the season being seven episodes long. The soundtrack perfectly matches the emotional and mysterious atmosphere of this season. Overall, it's another thoughtful, emotional, visually creative, and consistently engaging entry to watch. It is, in my opinion, a masterpiece, and the overall peak of the series.

ngl at first i thought there was no way this series could live up to my expectations. i wasnt a fan of owarimonogatari, and literally watched this season on impulse from pure confusion and disbelief from the last episode of koyomimonogatari. i still had doubts going in BUT OH BOY DID THIS FINALE DELIVER. k first off is the details. i cant imagine how big your brain has to be to think of some of this stuff. gaen in particular coming out with the 900 iq plays just astounds me the more i think about it. she is out here playing 5d underwater chess and i liked that we get a glimpse into how much she really controlled the story. honestly it took so much brainpower to connect that gaen sent koyomi to hell just to bring back hachikuji because snails beat snakes (which was also a callback to kaiki helping nadeko) so the god issue would be solved. i think it is things like that which made owari 2nd season really enjoyable to watch because i can rewatch and notice little things i didnt before. another thing i really liked was how everything was wrapped up cleanly. there were a lot of things that were addressed that i didnt even know were problems, such as the balance and gods for the shrines. i also liked that there was a resolution of long outstanding points like why hanekawa was searching for oshino and where oshino was after all this time. the mayoi hell and hitagi rendezvous arcs made me appreciate the arcs i did not rate highly since there was a payoff for parts of the story i personally didnt find intense. i ultimately find owari second season satisfying because it just does a good job doing grand reveals for every mystery in this show. i gotta take a moment to appreciate the catch phrase that everyone has. i lowkey want to adopt one because of it, but itd be cringy af. the fact almost every character can be recognized from their one liner or bit is incredible. to me, these do such a good job expressing each character's personality and can really give weight to whatever had just happened. i loved these lines as well because it helps give monogatari a unique feel with the mystery when characters say "i know everything" or "i dont know everything, i only know what i know" after giving koyomi an oddly specific fact. i think all the characters in this show are so well done, but this was just one thing that really stood out, stuck with me, and made these characters memorable. after finishing owari 2nd season i think ougi oshino is best girl. i promise this isnt just recency bias. in otorimonogatari and and owarimonogatari i just thought she was a little shit, but after the big reveal of who she was it made sense why. some of my favourite conflicts to watch and see resolutions to in anime is when characters have to battle with their inner demons or regrets because it is something i understand personally. having ougi be a physical representation of this struggle, and seeing koyomi directly interact with her, was fantastic. honestly was also boomed when ougi asked koyomi for help and the madman actually did it because he was saving himself. i eat that shit up, plus ougi has my favourite line in the whole show: "i dont know anything, i only know what you know."

9/10. Owarimonogatari, End Story, the final movement and culmination of the monogatari series - supposedly. It’s taken me almost two years to get here from Bake, and the ride was truly worth my devotion, time, and thought. Love it or hate it, you just got to admit that it’s one-of-a-kind. And an experience that you should experience. Brilliant minds, unconventional directing, years of experience and refinement. The art styles have come a long way from Bakemonogatari’s tighter-constrained palettes, and though it isn’t Violet-level art that’ll leave you in tears, or Rengoku level animation that’ll leave you suspended in awe, it retains that classic monogatari charm. The character designs are a lot stronger with stronger palettes and more consistent models; backgrounds and odd out of character focuses remain splendidly done. The music wasn’t the most apparent but duly complemented the scenes and stood out when the atmosphere called for it. (Satoru Kosaki did not helm the music during the Final season). With only 7 episodes in this second season, it would undoubtedly feel a bit short for 3 story arcs, but pacing did not suffer much - or maybe we’re already numb to the lightning fast presentation of this series. Mayoi Hell clears up and progresses from the nebulous shock from Koyomimonogatari (watch it, it’s crucial to the plot), Hitagi Rendezvous provides yet another reason why I feel in love with Senjougahara, oh, and build up to the final conclusion. And Ougi Dark, what a great way to end, our loved characters have all come a long way, and despite everything thats happened, our characters are still our characters. There’s a rather inexplicable yet profound feeling after seeing the epilogue, but brilliant rays of self-acceptance, positivity and hope radiate warmly. That’s all I can say without spoiling anything, which will severely and adversely affect the viewing. No matter what may change, you are you. You will always be you. So love yourself in all your aspects. The comedy dialed down quite a bit but gags and jokes are obviously still there, heightening the gravity and closure of the past seasons, and creating a more serious, less playful vibe. It may not have had the most hip smacking laughter moments, but what it detracts in satirical comedy, it makes up with a beautiful expression of growth while retaining oneself.

Owarimonogatari Season 2 delivers a satisfying conclusion to the Monogatari saga. Even if Zoku Owarimonogatari didn't exist (and it's more of an epilogue anyway), I would be fine with this being the ending to the series as it ties all loose ends in a way that I think most fans will be happy with. This time around there are three story arcs; Mayoi Hell, Hitagi Rendezvous and Ougi Dark. Mayoi Hell, as depressing as the title sounds, is a pretty wholesome story where Koyomi reflects on his choices throughout his interactions with the girls in his life. Some interesting and important story stuff happens too, but I'll refrain from spoilers. Hitagi Rendezvous is my least favorite arc in this season. It's mostly about Koyomi and Hitagi going on a date, so very little happens story-wise. It's a cute couple of fluff episodes for the fans of the crab girl, but for people like myself who don't find her character all that endearing or interesting, this arc doesn't offer much enjoyment. Ougi Dark is the final arc where we find out who exactly Ougi is. Up to this point her character has been shrouded in mystery, and we finally get some answers why she seems to know so much about Koyomi and his friends. This is another enjoyable arc that nicely ties up loose ends and ends on a wholesome note.

The final chapter of Monogatari that beautifully showcases how far the cast has come from their initial points. The story is more of the same that you would come to expect from this series, lots of poetic and philosophical dialogue fill up the majority of the episodes and as always it is ridiculously engaging. The main arc revolves around Araragi learning and confronting Ougi which made for some of the best moments in the entire series. As each season progressed the art and animation only became crisper and more expressive, every frame was a pleasure to look at. The directing of this series has always been impressive. The soundtrack fits perfectly with every scene it was in, utilizing many tracks from previous seasons, the opening particularly for Ougi Dark was stupidly good as well. The characters were the main attraction of this season, as mentioned earlier just through their interactions before confronting Ougi it becomes clear how much they have changed since the start. Each character is very well defined and acts as if they are their own main character of their own story. Incredibly satisfying payoff from many seasons of buildup, and seems to be a great transitional piece to move into the finale

Whoo boy, I'm almost at the end. Monogatari Series has taken up my watching time basically non stop, excluding airing shows that I was watching, for the past month, as well as another half a month where I watched the first season (barring the Kizu trilogy because I watched it slightly out of order). With Owarimonogatari 2nd being the end of the main story of the series (this is based on my assumption that Zoku Owarimonogatari will be more of a side story, which I feel confident in assuming due to how nicely it wrapped things up) I think my long journey has mostly reached its end. And what a great journey it was. The three arcs of this set surprisingly are in a very linear order. How very un-Monogatari-ey. Regardless these were some good arcs, I still feel that it wasn't as good as the original Bakemonogatari or Monogatari Series: Second Season, but I don't really have a reason why. I think that if I had to answer I'd say that I feel like those seasons just had more fleshed out and better done stories. I also think that I kind of liked the more non-linear or separated storytelling. Owarimonogatari 2nd Season doesn't really have those things, at least not on the same level as the aforementioned shows. But I don't really know, I could just be making things up just cause.' Other than that it checks all of the boxes of being a great show from the Monogatari Series franchise, and I don't really have anything to say that I didn't already say. So yeah, a good conclusion for a great series.
