ReLIFE: Final Arc

I've read very few manga mostly because I can't read Japanese very well yet and English kind of ruins the experience for me so I won't argue with the people that give this a low rating because they believe that the manga is a lot better. But. If you don't read manga like me, and you watched the first 13 episodes, I would argue that's it's really worth it to watch this. I mean it does feel kind of rushed, all fit inside 4 episodes, but from my point of view I got exactly what I wanted out of it. I saw a glimpse of the main character's life after his ReLife experience, and I want you to see it too if reading manga isn't for you. Get the closure you deserve. :) The story was consistent and the art has some weird aspects compared to the first 13 episodes but that's ok, nothing too embarrassing. Overall this series was totally worth the watch for me.

After watching the ReLife series, one would be pretty unsatisfied with the ending. Not knowing what is down the road for our beloved Hishiro and Arata, was quite a thought (and not in a good way). The final arc, as it's name suggests, puts a full-stop to all the questions that any viewer might have had. An excellent continuation to the story, this is a must watch for those who have watched the original series. It is astounding how the creators packed so much information into merely 4 episodes and made it so that we don't overload our minds with the excess of information (the timely jokes and the amazing art style sure helped ease the process!) It would be very tough for me to point out any outlying faults in the OVA because there arent any! The main story is still adhered to and the OVA delivers an outstanding finish to the anime. Summing up, if you have watched the original series and haven't checked out this one, you are sure to be missing out on some of the most romantic moments that will make you beat your bed wishing for all people to find that love.

If you were, perhaps, looking for a bit more romance from the first thirteen episodes of ReLIFE, these last few episodes are it. Other than that, you're gonna get the same, amazing story that this anime has always had. I didn't mention the art in my last review of this anime, but it's gorgeous. Art styles like this one always appeal to me, and I think the tone of this anime was paired very nicely to the art style. But that's the boring stuff. Let's talk about the last four episodes and how they changed the story of ReLIFE. I've said this before, but this anime is great at conveying a message, and I think these episodes drove home the anime's theme of finding yourself. Telling the story through adults that get to relive their youth is what makes it so impactful. As always, the character work done in these last few episodes was stellar. The personality each individual has not only makes it infinitely more interesting to watch, but it lends itself wonderfully to the humor of this anime. Probably a lot of that has to do with the great voice acting, as well. Also, I think these episodes highlighted some aspects of a few characters that the viewer didn't get to see before. I'm finding it difficult to review these last few episodes since it is just four episodes, and I already gushed all my thoughts in my first review, but honestly, I have nothing but praise for this anime. If you loved the first part of ReLIFE, do yourself a favor and finish the story here, because it'll be one I remember forever.

*Non-spoiler review* Purely based on the personal opinion of an avid anime viewer. That feeling that you've lost something or someone, and spending your life searching for it. That same feeling that you got when you watched Your Name, is basically what you're going to get when watching this special, which is a continuation of the series. The anime itself is nothing special, since the art, high school setting, characters are all rather 'generic' in a sense, but the premise is still rather interesting. Strangely enough though, you'll find yourself attached to these characters. You'll be rooting for all of them, and I think you should. The conclusion is satisfying, leaving no loose ends. You'll even get this nice warm feeling, and might even feel motivated to live life to the fullest. Of course, it's probably going to be different for everyone, but even so, I think this anime is well worth watching. My recommendation is to just sit back and enjoy the ups and downs. You won't regret it.

I'm sure that this is more-or-less a ME thing, especially considering the lack of full adaptation from the original manga series dismaying many fans. However, from the perspective of somebody who has not (but plans to) read the manga, this was not only fantastic, but this may be life-changing. I stated a similar mindset onto the original series that this is adding onto, simply because the original affected my life on numerous levels. Not only did the series get me back into anime, but it also helped me become more in-depth with the anime community as a whole. This mini-series following the original series is fantastic for the same reasons, yet for so much more as well. The characters in these additional episodes are not given a TON of development, except for that of Hishiro & Kaizaki. However, to me, the development between these 2 characters more than makes up for the lack of said development on the behalf of everybody else. I can't go into detail, simply because doing so would spoil it entirely, & I think that anybody that has seen the original series but hasn't seen this needs to go watch this. Like, seriously. Without spoiling TOO much, the really fantastic thing about these characters in these episodes is the way they develop as characters based on each other, and we get to see this in full detail in contrast to the original episodes. Something that I didn't mention in my original review was how interesting they made the development of Kaizaki and Hishiro work, as they built their characterization off of the side characters within. However, these episodes focus on their development by the interaction between each other, and it's beautiful to watch. Everything about their growth as characters in contrast between the first episode of the original and the last episode here is astounding. Plus, though I can't really talk about it here, the way their relationship grows is just heart-wrenching and so GOSH DARN ADORABLE at the same time. The soundtrack here is essentially the exact same as the original series. The only new additions were the new ending themes for each episode and the fantastic piano rendition of the OP done by Penguin Research (great name, by the way.) In other words, if you did/didn't like the original OST, not much has changed here. The art in this is relatively the same as the original series, but with a few minor changes; for the better & for the confusing... The thing that confused me was the addition of using simply colored characters to fill in the background characters in the series during the duration of the episodes. Though it wasn't necessarily annoying or bad, it just occasionally felt out of place. However, it's totally made up for by the beautiful animation to be found in specific segments, specifically the 3rd episode (or technically episode 16.) It was simply beautiful during those parts, and in all honesty, it took my breath away. Especially during the part in the Ferris Wheel... And overall, the thing that made this so memorable in all honesty is just how this series will have you feel from the beginning to the end. It really tugs at your heartstrings for pretty much the duration of all 4 episodes, and I cannot stress enough how much I thought I was going to bawl at the end of the series. I didn't, mind you, but it was not only damn close, but was genuinely expected on my behalf. However, the one thing that did genuinely bother me a bit was the introduction of Ooga's brother in the first episode here (technically episode 14), as it really set up something that we never unfortunately got to see here, and that was a little disappointing. Not at all a major flaw by any stretch, but it's something. Nonetheless, if you've seen the original series, but you haven't seen these episodes yet, do yourself a favor, and go watch them. They may not affect you heavily like they did me, but I believe that they are the true way to finish the series of ReLife (except for the original manga series' ending, which are probably more accurate canonically, but hey, what can I say).

They crammed a lot of manga into four short episodes, important scenes were left out and it would have been better to have a complete 12/13 episode season. Overall I they did the best they could with such a small amount of episodes. Though I really wish they had included the scene where Kaizaki finds out he passed the college entrance exam. That scene was really beautiful and sweet, very poignant. It was nice to experience some of the important scenes in anime form, with music in the background and the characters' voices it brought many scenes to life Read the manga it has a lot more development and closure!

I've read the manga and I was quite disappointed with the fact that they decided to pack so many chapters into just FOUR episodes. There's a lot that audience who've never read the manga missed. Even so, it was not too bad for a 4 episodes wrap. There were still some of the scenes from manga that they retained. However, I would have really wanted to see the manga version of how Kaizaki and Hishiron recalled their last bits of memories in the anime. Love the fact that the songs used for the EDs are old songs. The feels... For those who have only watched the anime, this 4 episodes would at least bring a closure to the ReLIFE anime. P/S: I definitely recommend reading the manga~ ^^

the story is very good because it supports the story of the previous series, I feel less in the first series of relife, but after seeing relife kanketsu-hen, the story becomes much better, and I feel the anime is similar to plastic memories, because I do not know the purpose of using " it's "for their lives, because from the beginning it has no purpose at all, let alone have to forget the memories in high school as a consequence, but at the end all the objectives are explained using" it " for better life, looking for the purpose of life when we are grown up is difficult, let alone we are unemployed and have no other way to get out, but keep trying because every effort we will be valuable!!! well done! story 8/10 art 7/10 sound 8/10 character 8/10 enjoyment 8/10

Having read the manga I noticed many things missing in this attempt to make "the final eps" in only 4 episodes. Even though I instantly like every anime that is even a bit good this one had a weird ending. It was up to my expectations but not the way I wanted it to get there. Overall to someone who appreciates something more than a decent story and fairly good characters with different traits and most of all a special story (which was actually the most interesting part about re:life) I would recommend you watch this anime An addition: Read the manga if you don't feel like 4 eps will be enough to finish what the first season started (I would recommend that)

First things first. My "reviews" system is explained on a blog entry. Which can be found through my profile. ------ ✦Story Well, cannot be bothered to re-write whole thing as most elements apply here as they did for the main series. So I'm going to add here only few things. Firstly.. this finale had quite a heart wrecking moment, but thankfully was fixed with a blissful counterpart. Felt a bit quick but I think it was a beautiful and sweet way to wrap the whole thing up. To be honest.. would love to see their "future adult lives". Although, have to mention that did enjoy the whole Chizuru X Kaizaki a lot. ✦Art & Sound Same things apply as for the main series. Consistency, good ED etc.. ✦Character Chizuru has changed fair amount, shows a lot more emotions and has inner-battle with herself. As for everything else, just refer to TV series review. ✦Enjoyment & Overall Much stronger emotions in this one. Tragic, heartwrecking, sweet.. did quite play with feels. But in the end, a very enjoyable experience with this Anime.

*Sorry about my bad english, but I need say something about this anime* I'll write this review like an anime fan, so i'm not here to compare ReLIFE anime vs. ReLIFE manga. With this in mind, I can say: ReLIFE is one of the bests animes I've ever seen. The feelings put on this from the begning until the end is way to good, especially if you like the characters. But why am I saying this? I answer: CHARACTERS DEVELOPMENT. Is all about characters development. There's a huge focus on this here and we can see how the characters grew as a human. Of course we have others good things here like a good romance and a great comic timing but the best thing still being about the character development. So basically what I need to say is that I'm in love with this series, I cried at the end and I'd highly recommend the "GOOD feeling" this masterpiece brings to us. "The fireworks may vanish, but memories remain."

In short: It's fine, but reading the manga will give you a much more well rounded emotional turn than this will. To give some context from where this is coming from, I originally stumbled upon the anime as just something that had a full release rather than a weekly release so I marathoned it immediately and fell in love with everything about it. It was and still remains as one of my few favorites among anime that I constantly reference in a myriad of different situations from the random gifs and memes that come from its focused art direction to giving myself a great deal of perspective on my own life and how I was living it. I wanted more and found the manga that was still unfinished at the time. I read from the ending of the first season up until production that night as well. I couldn't get enough and I loved every minute I have spent on this series. This was the first manga I kept up with as it was coming out. I was so happy to see the manga conclude and the ending arc announced. As a side contextual note about me, this anime has hit and continues to hit home on a more personal level that what can be reasonably considered normal and while I can try my hardest to say that I remain objective about my criticisms, I know that I am willing to give a lot more leeway to works of entertainment that resonate with me on a more personal level. With that being said, this probably should have been more than a 4 episode OVA. The other half of the manga dove deep into Kaizaki and Hishiro's relationship both as a forming couple and how they supported each other through their trails as someone with a love that cannot last. It also introduced a few different concepts and plot threads that, while could have been and ended up being left out in the anime, were very impactful to the ultimate conclusion of the story. Reading up on the manga that was originally adapted, this was more or less the same case, but it was remarkably more pronounced in the OVAs. However, this set of OVAs is almost perfectly acceptable in a vacuum. A lot of the negativity and disdain that is and will be felt is by knowing that the manga is so much deeper than the anime, especially in the OVAs. Yes, this is just another case of a staple of this medium of art where the manga is better than the anime. The advantages are very clear here like they are in other examples, but they can be judged on their own. In an attempt in doing so as someone who has read all the manga and therefore cannot do that without being influenced there are some things that I can say that are at the very least separated enough to have weight. The positives are that most of the changes that they did make followed the internal logic that the original adaptation set out, mainly that the support staff would take a much farther back seat when it comes to character development and would be heavily sidelined in lieu of developing the main characters and to only deal with story beats and plot threads that have a direct and tangible impact on their view of the ReLIFE program. In doing so, the OVAs length is somewhat justified even though a lot of the meat was cut out from it while still maintaining the flow of time that was more or less established from the original series. The main problem that was created from the manga was that the second half of the volumes stretched out the last third of the school year and the aftermath of the experiment creating somewhat of a pacing issue that felt a bit reminiscent of DBZ. While this was justified by the sheer amount of emotional weight packed into its story (much like how DBZ was justified in how much action taking place in the drawn out fights) the adaptation may have felt extremely drawn out and may have fallen into the "will they, won't they" trap that a lot of ReLIFE's contemporaries fall into in their second half. However, this approach also led to me thinking that emotional moments were run a bit too quickly. Some of those moments were done with a pace that kept the ball rolling, but didn't really let me relish in the particular emotion for very long before it jumped to the next story beat. While this ultimately doesn't impact the viewing as a whole, those who have read the manga will feel this many MANY times over, especially when specific scenes and lines are templated over into different situations that don't match up. The only other major negative that I can really pick out that isn't a symptom of wanting to see more of the manga adapted into animation was the ED choice at the end of the 3rd episode. I think I somewhat get what they were going for by having a more high energy and sexually charged song at this point in the OVA series, but it felt horribly out of place when everything else in the score is of much more somber and mellow composition in order to bolster the stellar writing to create the emotional impact. This was doubly felt when the ED choice of the 4th episode was a slow and sadder version of the OP that helps emphasize the well of emotions that the characters are having. While there are certainly worse songs that could have fit the same mold as what was chosen for the ED of the 3rd episode, I still felt like it was a bit tone deaf which is surprising for this show. It very well could be that there needed to be a space on the soundtrack for this song for whatever reason to aid with the marketing or something of that nature, but that is very speculative on my part (and the only reason I bring it up is because that's how some lower quality western movie *cough* adaptions *cough* get funded). I could go on with praising the rest of the OVAs, but most of it carries over from the manga or the previous series so I will be brief. The focused art is still fantastic even though it does make for some awkward moments where it becomes apparent that there are literally no extras in this show (see the class photo for the worst offender of this). However, it gets a pass as focused opposed to lazy from me because it is consistent with the manga and the artists did a great job nailing both the on model and off model drawings that this show is known for. The sound, outside of that one hiccup mentioned above, is still simple, effective, and downright brilliant at times. The characters are all still very endearing even in this form where they are hacked down from the manga. And finally it just creates an amazing experience as a complete package that I have to recommend to everyone, maybe outside of people who are currently struggling through being a NEET because certain aspects of this show will hit too close to home. It won't hit as strong as Watamote or Welcome to the NHK, but seeing my friends' reaction to the first couple of episodes, I can say that it has the potential to weigh the show down if some of the feelings resonate too strongly. On the flip side, to those who are either recovering from that kind of life or have completely recovered, it has a nostalgic feeling that bites in places, but ultimately gives perspective on the transformation process. All in all, it is one of my favorites that is quite unfairly bolstered by personally resonating with me. Even knowing that this OVA was hacked down and possibly was only made to make a quick buck with an audience that was sold on the price of admission from the day it was announced regardless of length, I still love it. Not as much as the manga, but it will remain one of my favorites in the romance genre.

A good conclusion from season 1 & for an unfortunate "condensed" chapters/plots from the manga. did I prefer more episodes to cover more plots? yes. Am I fine with this though? yes too. the 4 episodes OVA only covered some initial plots that has been established in season 1 but there are some major points from the original that would also impact the story to be more solid. Also, nice touch for that YUI song at the end of episode XX 'cause it kinda really hit me on personal level. It remind me of my own high school memories & the song is very popular back than which is also pretty rare for an anime to used a popular old song btw. Story: 7 Art: 7 sound: 8 character: 8 enjoyment: 7 OVERALL: 7

When I first heard that they were going to make a sequel, I was really happy. I enjoyed the first season a lot and loved the concept of "restarting" your life. I'd like to say that I'm disappointed that they decided to make only 4 episodes. The budget must have been small, which was especially noticeable when they didn't even bother to fully draw characters not important to the plot. I would like to say that the ending was more than satisfactory for me, which was why I'm giving it a little higher score that I would have given it. Having these 4 episodes are better than not having a conclusion to this interesting anime. For those who like this anime and are debating whether or not they should bother with this, check it out. Even though the length will disappoint you, that ending left me satisfied

ReLIFE is my favorite romance, drama and comedy anime. Season 1 was a gem. I rewatched it like 3-4 times without getting bored. When I heard they'll be making a season 2, I'm hyped, but when it was announced it has only 4 episodes, my hype turned to worries. On to the review: The 4 OVA episodes of this amazing anime is a little bit disappointment. The story is lacking compared to the first season. I understand the time needed for a 100+ chapters of the manga to be compressed into four episodes is impossible. They should have made a 13 episode series for this anime. Anyway, as I said earlier, the storytelling is lacking, rushed and no charm. The characters' development are good. The background music is the same as the Season 1. The enjoyment is a roller coaster of sadness and joy at the same time. The drama just could not put me into tears. I will give it 8/10 stars. I will give credit to the ending scene and the overall execution of the story. Why does it always happen to a good anime? First season: GREAT!!! But when it comes to conclusions, DISAPPOINTMENT!!! P.S. Gotta read the manga...

These 4 episodes were necessary for me to get the real ending, similar to the manga. They focus more on the main characters, Kaizaki and Hishiro. That's what I wanted to see, because it took all the previous episodes to build up the tension between them. The music was better, with other instruments. There was good use of recurring themes, adapted to the situations. The animation was similar to the TV series, with better colors and variations in the scenery. The last 2 episodes were very good in conveying the emotions of the characters: they reminded me why I loved the manga.

While I am still not in love with this series or the OVAs, this was marginally better than the regular series. Animation was on par or better than the regular series while having much better and more focused stories and narrative. Although it did not personally affect me, I can see someone being moved by these episodes and more specifically the conclusion of the series. But I think a lot of my issues I will always have with this series is still in these OVAs. Still not a fan of the music and the VA work is fine but not spectacular to me. Suppose if you liked the series you might as well check this out. Otherwise don’t bother.

This is a story about a man who has lost his way in the “real world” and gets a chance at a do over. Kaizaki is the main character, followed by Hishiron, a very awkward high schooler who makes enemies when she is trying to make friends. She tries to smile and ends up looking like a demon summoning a curse. Side note–I often use her attempt at a smile as a gif–it’s a look. This was way sweeter and less judgy show than I expected. The writers also had an opportunity to make this really gross and sexualize high school girls. Happy to report that they do very little of that. They skirt the lines of the ‘older man with underage girls’ trope with Kaizaki being tempted/tested a few times. I braced myself for it to get weird but it never did. Yay! Although this is a show about high school, they combine the best of both worlds with a lot of older characters and the typical high school plot lines. This allows them to bring a little more maturity and perspective to some of the drama. In spite of this, some of the plot lines aren’t totally believable (they never are) but some of the high school drama (not feeling good enough, struggling to fit in, etc.) is relatable and done in a way that doesn’t feel like a patronizing after school special. The show always passes up the opportunity to give Hishiron, an awkward high school peer to Kaizaki , a “glow up” and turn her into something that she is not. She just learns as she goes. As for the sound and graphics, the score can sound like someone messing around on a piano and sometimes took me out of the scene. The animation is nothing special but acceptable. I watched this all the way through and would recommend it. Especially if you want something that is a little twist on a high school romance.

Great completion, little bit too quick of an ending though. Relife is one of my most favorite anime's ever, only beaten out by various Racing and battle related anime's, definitely in my top ten or five. But this ending is very quick, and ends without any more clarification then at bare bones needed, and truly needed another 4 episodes to fix with pacing and more of an after-story to the ending. Series is still great, but the studio had a lack of funding to complete the ending. If you want full clarification for an ending, then look at the last few chapters of the manga. Firm 8.6/10, mainly held up due to that there is an ending for a great series, wished for more though.
chadmaster6969
This was very great however the ending was incredibly bitter, did not feel well to watch and left me pretty annoyed. I believe the actual concept of the anime began to ruin the show, especially on this final conclusion. (it starts getting good, but begins to be dragged down by being forced under the shows concept). I would of easily given this a 9/10, along with its first season, but due to how bitter it made me feel it didn't go well with me. The 2 main characters begin growing exceptionally, it makes you feel nice and it was wholesome, you see the 2 main character strike it off, but through the whole thing you feel kind of sad and annoyed how none of this matters. Their growth was meaningless with each other and makes you feel like you wasted time watching something.
