Tokyo Ghoul:re Anime Review Episodes: 12 Genres: Horror, Supernatural, Psychological Plot: 3.5/10 Most stories will have a clear problem in the beginning that the characters need to resolve before the book or show ends. Like in a classic mystery: someone dies, we need to figure out who killed them. Tokyo Ghoul:re doesn’t have something like that? We’re introduced to a mishmash of character who seem to not have any motivations, except one. Nothing happens that would indicate a problem until the anime is 3/4 over. The characters just live their lives, doing whatever they want, not achieving anything. The story is actually about how Haise deals with his lost memories, but the way he deals with it is so incredibly unrealistic and boring. The show cannot even get its main objective done well. Also, can we talk about Deus Ex Machina? Maybe used once or twice in a show isn’t that bad, but multiple times in every episode? It’s so annoying when none of the characters can die because everyone apparently has magical powers of living. You finally think someone will die, nope saved by some random luck. It’s poor story writing when you rely on this cliché so heavily. Art/Animation: 6/10 The animation is “meh” at best. There’s nothing really special about it. For a show heavily focused on fight scenes, said fight scenes weren’t animated to their full potential. Why this category gets a 6 however, is the art. I quite liked the character designs and seeing how old characters changed. Juuzou <3 Music: 5/10 Numerous times while watching this show I thought to myself, “You know, there may be something wrong with your show if the opening theme is the greatest thing about it”. The opening was great; everything else was lackluster. Nothing more to be said about it. Characters: 1.5/10 This is my biggest problem with the show by far. None of the characters were likable, none (Juuzou is cool tho). The show tries it hardest to make you like the characters, except Urie, and feel for their struggles, but you just feel nothing. The show makes the ghouls out to be these harmless creatures that just need to eat, but you really couldn’t care less if any of them died. Speaking of Urie, he was the most annoying character I have ever had the misfortune of seeing in my entire life. His monologue was simply there to prove how much of a jerk he is and everything he does, everything is useless to the plot. He does nothing, but make himself look idiotic. Now, do the characters have any development? No. No they don’t. The one character that is meant to have a lot of development, Haise, is the most indecisive person I have ever seen. I don’t want to talk about the ending because of spoilers, but you cannot have a character develop when they are constantly fluttering back and forth on how to behave. His entire character is a mess. Overall Score: 4/10

I write this as someone who loves the other seasons as well as the manga. This part of the manga is the worst to me, so I wasn't expecting much from it, but the adaptation makes it even worse. Score: 3 I hate like 80% of the new characters, the main ones are just the average anime squad of 5 guys with 5 very different personalities. The characters that made me love these series barely appear and their personalities don't fit them (this would be OK if they showed some development but...) The art and the sound are Ok but nothing special. The fights aren't neither good enough. They introduce so many characters that they can't tell the story properly. I wouldn't recomend it to anybody unless they love the other seasons to the point that they just want to know what hapens next.

(SPOILER FREE) I probably expected too much from Tokyo Ghoul:re. In fact, I found it quite dissapointing. The story is really poor, we didn't learn much from what happened at the end of Season 2, and overall, the newest characters are boring. I mean, it's only like they are here as a background. It might be my opinion of course, but I didn't feel any ressentment for the character's past and story. I find it regrettable that their story weren't shown in-depth. Also, where did Touka and the others go ? We saw them for like 5 minutes, that's all ? I feel very sad that the main characters were left behind. Let's talk about Sasaki now. He is one of the most irritable characters in the whole anime world. I don't even understand why he replaced Kaneki. What is his goal? Yes, he has such of a "weak" nature, they will probably make him improve, but not yet. We are talking of the present now. I really expect for better in the 2nd Season.

Tokyo ghoul:re is another adaptation in a series of disapointments. The way Ishida suis original work gets butchered is a sad thing to see since this is one of my favorite manga of all time. If you want an idea of how badly the pace of the show got hit, the first chapter of the manga was condensed to 5 minutes (3 if you exclude the opening) and not only do they cut scenes from the source material, the animation quality, soundtrack and overall direction of the show is noticeably worse than the previous seasons. Not only did they downgrade ALL of that, they cut the details that make tokyo ghoul so interesting to read. I don't want to look like a manga only freak, because i truly believe that animation as a medium is just as good as if not better than the manga. It's such a shame that the adaptation just can't live up to the source material. In short read the manga, it's not that the manga is automatically superior to the anime, it's because the anime is missing the details, story parts and crucial plot elements that make tokyo ghoul good

I’m a huge fan of the manga series and I should say that this season might be one of the most faithful adaption we’ve seen so far. Still, I can’t really say I loved Tokyo Ghoul:re, like I loved the first season. This adaption seems to be lacking something, although I find it a bit hard to say what exactly. My best guess is that it just misses the atmosphere that came through so nicely in the manga. In this season of Tokyo Ghoul, we meet Haise, a ghoul investigator who’s working very hard to keep together his little family. Just like everyone (except Haise) notices, he’s the former Kaneki and struggles with his other personality that just isn’t a sweet snowflake like Haise himself. A lot of people say they hate Haise, but I kinda like his sweet, innocent side (I do like Kaneki better though). The story of Tokyo Ghoul:re follows the manga very closely, but just doesn’t seem to have the same effect. Maybe it’s because the animation is worse than ever before. Maybe it’s because the voice acting ruined some scenes (please stop the Japanese sounding German/French, why would you do that to my ears?) and made them almost hilarious, while that obviously wasn’t the intention. Maybe it’s because the story is rushed. Maybe it’s because there’s a big blank space after Tokyo Ghoul Root A. Maybe it’s because the finale didn’t really feel like something you would call a finale. Some scenes in the manga made my cry. The same scenes in this anime just leave me gazing at the screen, thinking: what the hell am I even watching? Characters I had no problems with in the manga suddenly became very hollow, not convincing and sometimes even annoying, though I just can’t point out what has caused it. Anyway, if the anime will continue to follow the manga, this might just be a necessary pain to go on to the better part of the series (and I really hope that it will turn out better than this season did, a girl can hope, can’t she?)

I really need to let my emotions out for this one. I'm one of the biggest Tokyo Ghouls fans you'll probably ever meet. I waited 3 years for this adaptation. Nevertheless, my expectations were high because I was hyped for it 3 years ago. You can figure that I've read the manga too. Here's my biggest issue with the anime. It's confusing. I've spoken to a lot of people who are anime only be very confused about what is going on. "I thought Tsukiyama and Kaneki weren't that close?" "Who are these people?" And so on. Since I know the story form the back of my hand I can easily follow along, but the story isn't some easily explainable and thoroughly linear work. I firmly believe you need to experience the manga in order to get full enjoyment from Tokyo Ghoul. With the specific style, foreshadowing, and narrative missing from the animation, the story is bland and frankly not as interesting. The panels were drawn in a specific way that makes their following animated direction seem awkward or lacking. However, no one I know will read the manga because they thought the anime was subpar. I agree. Unless I were that curious to see what would happen next I wouldn't be bothered to. I wouldn't be able to believe the manga is much better than the anime adaptations. Japan knew this would be an issue. They tried to send out ad campaigns telling watchers to read the original Tokyo Ghoul manga to understand the events a little more. This should not have been an issue in the first place, and it definitely contributed to why so many people are scoring this with such mediocre scores. The anime left out so many specific details, lines, and panels that I can't even begin to list them. I had to set all of my disagreements with the anime aside so I could still enjoy it. It's a good way to spend almost a half an hour of your time. Brutal honesty. I got to see some of my favorite characters and scenes animated at least. Not as impactful as I originally read them, but I was satisfied with seeing them at least. I loved, loved the musical scores. I can listen to Asphyxia for hours on end. I really loved the ending too. The OST was pretty enjoyable as well. It was reminiscent to Root A, but the music was one of the good things about Root A in my eyes. It was refreshing. The art was nice to look at. I thought the animation was stellar at most points, but it definitely had its choppy moments. I gave Tokyo Ghoul:re an 7 because I love the original story and the art and music were great. The anime was cut short for 12 episodes and that can't be helped. The anime's story was lacking, which is why it got knocked down three numbers. I really wish people would give the :re manga a chance. It really makes Mondays survivable. I know it's by far not for everyone, though.

Let me start this by saying that I've read :Re while it was still in its first few chapters, I stopped a while ago at around chapter 40 I think? But I don't remember being nearly as baffled when reading the manga like I was when watching this anime. Everything is rushed, characters I remember loving in the manga feel so hollow and uninteresting, nothing makes sense. And once again, I'm saying this as someone who read the manga and just forgot what happened, because if there's one thing I do remember is that things made sense in the manga. The art and animation is absolutely atrocious, the fact they even choose to skip most of the fight scenes to one character pinning down another without even showing how they got to that position proves how lazy they are. Is this season better or worse than Root A? I'd say better, but that's not saying much considering how big of a mess Root A was. I love this series and it pains me to see it get such horrible adaptations. I have very low expectations for season 4.

the manga? absolute masterpiece. Work of art. Made by a God. the anime? disgusting. they skipped so many details from the manga and even made up stuff, the animation looks weird and overall they did the manga so dirty. please read the manga, it's way better than the anime. the story itself is great, the characters too obviously, but the way they executed this could have been better imo, they skipped the whole kagune explanation, they did whatever they felt like, they skipped a lot of parts of the story and in some angles the animation looks weird, they did NOT respect the original manga artstyle. if I was Sui Ishida I would be devastated if this was the anime adaptation of my manga, I would enter a severe state of depression to the point I would try to take my life. This is just disgusting. The opening slaps, ofc, but wut da heeeelllll man, this could've been better! was the budget of 20$??? you know what, hold my drawing tablet imma make the reboot myself and y'all see it gon turn way better than this did fr fr.

this season in tokyo ghoul is simply juts cannon the first and second seasons of tokyo ghoul were pretty good but the anime went downhill due to the transition from the second season to the third season first ken kaneki is replaced by another character i haven't heard all the anime and secondly the anime doesn't explain what happened to kaneki the story is tangled it's just a mess to find out the correct story and find out what happened to ken kaneki in season two and the transition to season three you have to read the manga like i did this tokyo ghoul season is just bad the new characters this season are bad and for no reason it's just to take out the gold and put the garbage in place 4 out of 10

This sequel to me feels more like some shitty spinoff of the prior seasons. It has one of the weakest starts in animes i've ever seen. throwing you in with 5 new characters in the middle of an awful whatever the hell it was. After a few episodes it does become more watchable but really struggles to create any real emotional connection to the characters. i felt at times where i should feel merciful or happy for any character i had no real care. the only characters i have any connection to is characters from previous seasons, which barely are shown. If you were content with the ending of tokyo ghoul rootA, keep it that way, don't bother with tokyo ghoul:re.

I liked re. I found things in it that I really enjoyed, like the romance between kaneki and touka (mainly besides the sex scene). But it was kind of a flop compared to the rest of the series. The first thing that went wrong was the pacing of the anime. In the manga, RE had it's own individual series, whereas the first season and root a were their own thing (I hope that this is understandable). Tokyo ghoul and root a spanned 14 volumes of manga in length together. RE went for 16. if you don't understand where I'm going with this, let me put it this way. They took an amount of content that was larger than the first and second seasons combined, and fitted it together in a space that was equal to the first and second seasons individually. this led to too many things happening in one episode, and key events bieng cut out of the show. No one really understands what's going on. The second thing that flopped was the creator. Sui Ishida was a genius, and I'm not criticizing his talent or skill. But if you actually look at the comments he made about the series, I don't think he liked working on tokyo ghoul. I think the lack of motivation slightly impacted the story. It's still good. The manga for RE is amazing, highly recommend it. But the anime guys really screwed up with their pacing, and it's kinda funny how much so. The motivation of the creator is nothing compared to that.

Story: Everything went wrong right from the start. The plot being Kaneki, who lost his memory, becoming a ghoul investigator, took everything slightly enjoyable from the prequels and ruined it. There's no build-up, everything happening throughout the first 10 episodes is so painfully bland- from the action scenes, which are getting repetitive, to the just horrible story development. In the last two episodes, we're supposed to get emotional from seeing characters we've never seen before die. A Tokyo ghoul classic. In conclusion, the story is one of the worst I've seen so far while adding a terrible execution to it. Characters: I could describe all the characters from the prequels with one word: ruined. Shu had a big part in this season and I wouldn't mind that at all as long as he'd stay the way he was portrayed in the prequels, but no, he's just been an annoying addition to the story, which at the end didn't matter at all. All the new characters were so generic. I'd guess that the intention behind it was to make characters so that everyone could relate. But the backstory we were given felt like there was no effort put behind it, which made it only worse in the bigger picture. Art: I can't hate on the art. It's nothing special, but it is one of the few enjoyable parts of the whole. Sound: This time around the sound was so unremarkable and left no impression on me, unlike in the original Tokyo Ghoul series. Enjoyment: None. I say this with great sadness, but don't watch this anime, even if youre just trying to complete the whole like me. This comes from someone who enjoyed both the prequels, but this is nothing but a waste of your time. Even writing this review was such a pain, because I had to relive the whole experience again. I feel nothing but disgust towards this.

I really don't know what to say. I don't know where to start actually. I was really enjoying TG in the first two seasons, because the events were all connected and you can make the assumptions why the characters behave in a way that they behave. Now in season 3, there were so many characters but yet so limited back story, it was hard to follow them and impossible to root for them. Not to mention that all the character development and all the things that Kaneki have been through was deleted. Okay, his memories were deleted or lost, whatever. But in scenes when Sasaki and Kaneki were speaking, at least they could show us Kaneki's character development. Because in the first two seasons we were able to see Rize's reactions to the events but in third we wouldn't see Kaneki's. It was like he never existed. And his comeback scene didn't make that shocking reaction that i was waiting. Sorry, i don't like this season and i only gave 5 points to the gay ghoul and that's all.

English version: I think I've never been too disappointed with an anime in my whole life 'cause I really like the others seasons. I thought the critics were overkill but they're not. The story is so pathetic, boring and mediocre that (I swear you) it looks like a fanfic made by an eleven year old boy who simply can't develop ONE good character - they're all pitty and I wouldn't care if they just die. Also, there is a lot of cliches like lost memory, a powerful (but after...weak?) comic relief, random transformations, bunch of undeveloped villains. Anyway, a good point is the art (sometimes) and the references from the others seasons, but it doesn't even matter. For me, the ":re" saga is a collective delirium and I preffer to pretend it doesn't exist. For me, Tokyo Ghoul ends at its second season ("√a").

Imagine Tokyo Ghoul, but Everything that was GREAT. NOW SUCKS. WARNING: Slight Spoilers! Story: We start off with the main character Haise Sasaki ( Who is actually Ken Kaneki ), but After second season we realize that Ken Kaneki is stabbed through the eye and Loses all memory of who he used to be. Two years after the raid on Anteiku and Haise Sasaki joins the CCG. He is the leader of the new and experimental Quinx squad and This team of half-breeds will stop at nothing to put a ghoul down using their own ghoul powers. It is only a matter of time when Haise Sasaki realizes he is the one known as the Eye patch ghoul and Only remembering this from the small bits and pieces that come to him, as he figures out he is Ken Kaneki. Art: The art is always one of the better things within this anime as it is created by the same studio that made Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho. I doubt the art would, especially in 2019, but There are surprises here and there when taking anime into account of overall everything. Sound: The intro is always amazing when it comes to Tokyo Ghoul! I don't know why, but I always did love the Rock/Jazz fusion genre and I believe Tokyo Ghoul uses it quite well to it's advantage. As well for the ending theme " Half " by Queen Bee is great! The lyrics touch on the anime and Where the main character is at with his feelings and self acknowledgement. I think the themes are great! Character Development: Character development is even worse here cause it's basically the same as Tokyo Ghoul except instead of Ken Kaneki trying to figure out himself, it's Haise Sasaki trying to figure out who he is while leading a very boring squad of uninteresting half-breeds. It's basically Tokyo Ghoul, but Less interesting. Personal Enjoyment: For the longest of times I thought Haise Hasasaki was the child of both Ken and Touka, but I was wrong. I watched the anime and Now I see why my little brother finds this anime to be disappointing. Legit he warned me not to watch it, but I did and I was not impressed. Which is why I gave it such a average rating. Cause it did good in the same aspects that Tokyo Ghoul excelled in, but Within Tokyo Ghoul: RE they don't improve on the story or character development. Instead we get something that we didn't want, and That is an even worse plot and character development. I was hoping for more good things out of Tokyo Ghoul: Re, but Sadly it has failed my expectations. Overall: I was not impressed with anything from this anime as the the aspects of Sound and Art were already good, but It downgraded on it's character development as well as it's story. I do not approve of such things as that will make majority of anime garbage ( Unless that anime is Fullmetal Alchemist, then it soars with vibrant colors ) I was displeased and Now I am in need of a better anime to watch. I rate TOKYO GHOUL: RE a 5 OUT OF 10 Tokyo Ghoul: RE is Average at it's best. Pros: Great Intro/Outro Great Art Cons: Downgraded Story Downgraded Character Development No Improvement At All

The issue here is simply that it misses out a lot of the and character/story progression from the mage to make i sense, I'm not now sure why they would do that because anime fans who enjoyed the first and perhaps second season deserved more. \e\\d the material to understand character motivations but disagree. we need the plot of the mange to drive a cohesive story except from some fan service who are already already finished the story, I know there's a part Re:2 so hopefully that will be a lot cleaner/clearer, this just fells rushed. I would of prefer it to make sense then it does as an anime only fan at the time but this just seems very rushed. It's such a shame and with them vital plot points and character designs, and the pure fact they wont explain anything or give you a reminder but is shown the manga, it makes it un-watchable unless you're already a fan. Enjoyed the fights, the soundtracks so its no a total waste of peoples time, but read the manga first before all this, which is such a shame the opportunity to make such a great anime with a fantastic story.

SPOILERS Tokyo Ghoul Re: ok so basically they put u in the story with no context at all no one knows whats going on because shit went down in the manga that never happened in the anime. They literally decided to skip it. So basically he loses his memories and becomes a bitch straight up. After that he gets black hair and becomes mad emo. Then he gets white hair again and becomes normal or something. then he turns into a giant lizard scorpion scentipede or something idk. Anyway its way more confusing but has boobs in it like actual nude titties so ay gotta give props where it is due, overall its a solid 7/10 just because they fucked up with not telling us what is hapening to save a buck. The openings valid tho 7/10

Anyone who enjoyed this is not only wrong, but also stupid. If you combined the lack of direction from the rest of the series and then added constant deus ex machinas and unexplained plot points, you would have Tokyo Ghoul:re. I wanted to know how Kaneki got to becoming Sasaki in the first place. They never explained that because they tried to bury it, and every other plot hole, under endless conflict, which is sloppy. There were a few episodes that almost had a direction in mind. When Tsukiyama was trying to jog Kaneki's memory and when Kaneki and Touka were getting reacquainted. Mutsuki's character was butchered. These issues and a million more are why this show is ridiculously overrated.

Where to start with this, $h1t show I'll start with the positives. Which despite this show being pretty bad, there are a few. The animation and characters are still interesting. I like the settings, and the music is fine. The real issues all start with story boarding and plot. I'm not sure how many chapters they tried to fit into 12 episodes, but it was far too many (It gets worse in season 2). First, the time skip. It's jarring, I again have not read the manga, but I'm sure they explain it better than just cutting to our warped MC. Next is the pacing, it's horrendous. One minute you're in the labs, next you're in the field, next you're in the coffee shop. It's like you're nodding in and out of a long car ride through the entirety of the show. Not pleasantly coasting and seeing everything along the way. But jolting from scene to scene with a thin narrative holding it together. I don't really know how to end this review other than saying it's not worth the watch, it "does" wrap up the story (In season 2 of course) but just read the manga..... After careful consideration, I have dropped this rating by 1 overall point
