- It's a very light and fun anime, the episodes end and you don't even notice. The jokes and situations are great and at many times you laugh a lot. - The characters are college students, drink a lot and go to parties, which I thought was very similar to the real life of a college student, which is not much discussed in anime. - Anime has little romance, but it is interesting and makes funny situations happen. - In short, it is an anime that perfectly fulfills its role, which is to be a comedy. It is very funny and fun, worth seeing.

Grand Blue - I was really looking forward to this anime, which deals with diving and introduces this beautiful hobby. As I hadn't read the manga yet, I didn't know what a big disappointment I was in for. Story: A tool, no depth, just an excuse to string together flat comedy elements (3/10). After a decade away, Iori Kitahara returns to a coastal town in Shizuoka Prefecture to study mechanical engineering at university. He wants to live with his uncle, who runs a diving equipment shop and diving school. This would be a good template for a serious story. With the main character overcoming his phobia, there would even be potential for development. Well, if you are expecting a serious show about these themes and diving in general, you will be disappointed, as I was. The show drowns everything in bad comedy, destroying the few good aspects it might have had. Characters: Clichéd, couldn't be worse (4/10). In fact, it's hard to spoil anything by describing the characters, because they are so one-dimensional and stereotypical. And to add insult to injury, you know the characters from countless other anime, only they were portrayed there better. Kitahara Iori: The protagonist and newcomer, who cannot swim and is afraid of water. Against his will, he is accepted into the diving club "Peak a Boo" (PAB). The other members of the club try to help him overcome his fear of the sea. This could have been a great opener, but unfortunately it ends up being a pointless comedy of boozy parties and nudity for the most part. A weak MC who remains rather unlikable until the end of the series. However, the daring character development comes too late to mitigate the overall negative impression. Kotegawa, Chisa: She is the same age as Iori and has known him since childhood. Chisa is down-to-earth and conscientious, and the hobby suits her very well. A lot of the comedy in the series is done at her expense. She is always portrayed as a party pooper, with a disdainful look on her face when Iori or the others show up for the dive, completely drunk or not sober. And she is absolutely right! Diving is a wonderful but very dangerous hobby that you can only enjoy if you can rely on your dive buddy during the dive! This is indispensable in dangerous situations. Admirable that she told him what she thought. In a real dive and a difficult underwater situation, she would be the most reliable buddy of the whole group. Nanaka Kotegawa: She is the older sister of Chisa and a very good diver as well as chief instructor during the dives. She is a pretty woman with a very friendly nature, a real dream woman. It is a pity that she only has eyes for her little sister. This siscon trope is also used for comedy, but so exaggerated that it is rather unpleasant. Kouhei Imamura: He acts as a rival character to Iori. Handsome but with unrealistic ideas of a hardcore otaku, he fails to find a girlfriend among his classmates. When he meets Chisa, his obsession with a famous voice actress changes slightly. His fetish is also used several times for comedy, but the only notable scene is when the girls buy diving equipment and try on special diving suits that look like they're from Neon Genesis Evangelion (the white one = Rei Ayanami; the red one = Asuka Langley Soryu). Ryuujirou Kotobuki & Shinji Tokita They are students in their final year and, as senior members of the PAB, they are the senpai of the newcomers Iori and Kouhei. As different as Tokita and Kotobuki look, they are two birds of the same feather. They are seldom serious and tempt the newbies to binge drinking. In their defence, what little they teach about diving is at least correct. Azusa Hamaoka: She is also a member of the PAB and a senior student, but at a women's university. She is as attractive as she is lascivious, and tends to use her feminine charms in a beguilingly playful way. Unfortunately, she drinks just as much as Shinji and Ryuujirou, and to make matters worse, she is also ruthlessly honest and direct, often throwing her interlocutors off their game. On top of that, she is bisexual and finds both Shinji and Nanaka attractive. Visuals: Sub-optimal quality standard, inspiring moments not presented well enough (4/10) The quality standard of the art and animation is below the average that can be expected from a production of the year 2018. It's particularly sad that the key underwater scenes, despite being the best the anime has to offer, don't get a little more effort when it comes to presentation. On the other hand, the comic art style, even though it is presented in such a way in the manga, is so exaggerated and repetitive in the anime that it ends up looking awkward. Overall, the presentation and animation are not enough to convey the emotions of the scenes, as they cannot compensate for the exuberant comedy. Sounds: BGM generic, OP nice (5/10) The background music is not spectacular, but at least it shows an effort to do something right, as it is neither distracting nor inappropriate. The first OP, "Grand Blue" by Shōnan no Kaze, is upbeat and sounds good. The first ED, "Konpeki no al Fine" by Izu no Kaze, is not my cup of tea. But the singing and animation make it clear what to expect in the next episode. If you find the ED funny, you can safely move on to the next episode. Exclusively in episode 11, the ED "Konpeki no Al Fine" was sung by Mizuki Nana. The OP "Grand Blue" by Shōnan no Kaze is used again as the last ED. The dubbing actors can't save the overall picture of the anime, but the following voices stood out to me: Tokita, Shinji, spoken by Yasumoto, Hiroki; Kotegawa, Chisa, spoken by Anzai, Chika, and Hamaoka, Azusa, spoken by Yukinari, Toa. Yukinari-san took on a soft, feminine touch in the voice role, which suited the sassy, sexy Azusa very well. The sound effects were generally appropriate, and the dialogue direction even had some very clever ideas, but unfortunately they got lost in the nonsense comedy. I've read a few chapters now and the manga is more bearable, but not really better. Even if you're not interested in the sport itself and love comedy, I can't recommend this show because it's predictable, rough, loud and aggressively stupid. The comedy is a guilty pleasure that ruins even the show's few inspired moments. In the end, it was a waste of time for me, which is why I won't be following the manga either. Thank you for reading.

The quickest way to describe this show would be to say it's a great idea that gets dragged down by poorly done, cliched comedy. The first 9 episodes really drag on. The jokes are pretty good in the first episode starting out, but by the end you know it's about to go downhill in the upcoming episodes. Pretty much the entire male cast of the show are all unbearable idiots being jerks. They aren't funny and they just get tiresome really quickly. Half the jokes are so obvious it kills the punchline. I will say the 2 buff dudes are usually much better than the others. They're both often serious and you can tell they really respect their diving hobby. It's amazing how they're framed like the other guys but have some actual character to them. The other 2 guys don't really show much improvement until the last few episodes. All the girls are pretty okay for the most part. One girl pretty much gets thrown away and forgotten about, rarely showing up outside of her few gag moments joking on the single siscon trait they gave her episode one. When the show finally starts to focus on the diving, it really opens up and becomes really fun to watch. It's a shame that barely happens much until episode 10. You can feel the love for diving really shine through in those fleeting moments. I haven't read the manga but I can only imagine that everything goes along much more smoothly. I'd say part of the reason this scores so highly is because of the manga fanbase coming over with full context of all the scenes. Just my shot in the dark guess. It just feels like one of those shows that fails to capture what the manga would be able to. Story: 4 Art: 7 Sound: 6 Character: 5 Enjoyment: 5 A 2nd Season could end up great if they keep going how they did at the end of the 1st season.

I watched this in preparation for its upcoming S2 in Summer 2025 and I feel like I'm missing something. I get it, comedy is subjective, people's mileage will vary. And as a lover of comedy series and movies, I recognize that this is not exactly in my wheelhouse. For context, I turned 39 just this month and, though I certainly had a college experience, I wasn't exactly a frat boy. I attended parties every now and then, but I didn't join a frat and I didn't drink much. So, to an extent at least, that might explain why some of this humor didn't land for me. It's just not the kind of experience I had, so it feels foreign to me. On the other hand, it's not like that has stopped me from enjoying series before. I've loved a lot of series that bear no resemblance to the life I've lived, and not all of them are just fantastical romps like Saiki K and KonoSuba. I don't think it's a lack of connection to what's depicted that is harming my enjoyment. No, that has more to do with where this series derives its humor. There are a bunch of running jokes and, unfortunately, the series runs them into the ground to the point that they just aren't funny after a few times seeing them. The proclivity of its male leads to disrobe got old really fast, but never seemed to go away. I'm sure many people find the binge drinking funny, but it never worked for me - that might be due to my seeing way too many real life stories about alcohol poisoning, or it may just be that the joke is played out quickly when so much of the plot of this show relies on its characters getting black out drunk. I also tired quickly of Iori and Kouhei's rivalry as well as their and their friends' efforts to put the kibosh on any relationships they might have with women. Jealousy and frustration I get, but this just felt straight up mean in certain scenes. Nor did I enjoy seeing them trying to derive humor out of misunderstandings of who is romantically interested in whom and what perversions certain characters engage in. It was played out early and yet it kept on going. That's not to say none of the humor lands, but what does work are usually more novel jokes and absurd scenes, which did get some laughs out of me. The series isn't helped by seeming to push all of its best material to the background and only bringing it out occasionally. It seems to recall that it's a series about diving about 6 episodes in before setting that aside for a while and returning to it towards the end. I get that it's a comedy series first and foremost, but part of what sets this apart from other comedies is its focus on the setting and the drive of its characters, which would draw more interest from me if the series spent some more time on it. The characters themselves also offer opportunities, particularly with Aina's story. I found her pretty compelling at points, just a shame we don't get much insight into other characters beyond base urges and frustrations. I like the art style well enough and there are aspects of these characters and the comedy that I enjoy, but they seem like exceptions rather than common elements to the series. Maybe with a fresh coat of paint from S2 and some renewed focus, this could hit better. For now though, I don't have great expectations.

This anime wasn't terrible, but it definitely wasn't good. Between the seemingly pointless story line and indirect hints of incest, I don't recommend watching Grand Blue at all. Unless you're into that kind of thing. Besides that this anime does have some okay moments that might make you chuckle, but it's definitely not in the top 10 for best comedy anime or slice of life. The Story Line- the story line again is pointless. If you're looking for a meaningful anime with some kind of lesson tied into the story, then Grand Blue is not for you. Through out the episodes the synopsis is not really translated in the episodes and the ending is underwhelming to say the least. Overall I give this anime a 4 , don't waste you're time

Just try watching it, you will absolutely love it. The first season was of only 12 epis and it felt so short. That's why i started reading the manga and i am caught up to it now. I watched Grand Blue as a seasonal when it was releasing. It was pretty underrated that time. But until lockdown, it got some amount of popularity and now in 2025 its quite famous. It was even surprising for me that the manga was on top 10 highest rated mangas in MAL. It actually deserves it, as it is goated. Iori and Kouhei gotta be the best duo of all time. It was always hilarious to watch both of them. And comedy is not the only thing Grand Blue is good at. It has some most heart touching moments both in the manga and the anime( quite less in anime as it has Season 1 only). Some moments were heartbreaking too :(. Iykyk. Well then, Have a great day ahead. See ya.

first i want to say, i don't like this anime. featuring naked men (despite censorship), booze, sexy women, comedy that is not funny, other strange things are here. This is a strange anime in my opinion, and it seems like I watched it wrong and wrongly judged it when I saw the anime poster. there is indeed a little knowledge about diving in this anime, but remember that there are only a few, the rest shows mostly strange and inappropriate things, as well as absurd comedy. This is the first time I've seen a weird anime like this, and this is the most hilarious anime I've watched so far. the only thing I like about this anime is the animation and good graphics, which deserves to be appreciated. and also the knowledge of diving. that's all I like. the rest, no. I can't review too many of this anime because I'm confused and really don't like this anime. But if you want to see absurd comedy that is sometimes not funny, naked boys and fights with sexy girls, then feel free to watch it yourself. remember, someone likes or dislikes anime based on their own taste, so don't blame the person if you don't like it, while you like it.

Amazing show, comedy is great and story moves fast I like all the characters and I think they were given enough spotlight College life was well shown (without studying of course as in 95% of anime) Soundtrack is good, animation is good and references from other shows were very well put in the jokes I like that there was representation for every character troupe all of them were done right at least in my opinion I think this anime deserves higher rating and more love then or at least close to other anime like Kaguya sama or Devil is a Part timer

Grand Blue isn't 'breath-hard-out-your-nose' funny, it's a 'hurt-your-stomach' kind of hilarious. Each of the characters are so unique, and I was just captivated by how their different personalities compliment each other to create the funny setting and tone. I loved the art. The facial expressions. The goofy plans and misunderstandings. It's not your high school, sit at the desk, go to karoake sort of tripe humor, it's a college setting and you've got some pretty stupid college kids. I felt like this was a pretty important distinction because it seemed to separate it from your typical school life drama sort of thing and it's just goddamn funny. There is quite a few running jokes throughout the show, but it never tires, it's funny every time. Each arc is pretty different, and flows nicely. I wouldn't say there were any useless or boring arcs because in general, I was laughing on each episode. No matter how silly or ridiculous the comedy was, I could always somehow relate. I legitimately thought I was going to shit myself with laughter, and most of the time I was just like "that's a whole ass mood". Damn, now after writing a review I think I'm gonna need to push back all my "plan-to-watch" animes so that I can re-watch this lmao.

What is comedy to you? Is it a bunch of naked guys drinking like there's no tomorrow? Grand Blue is not your anime if that is what you're looking for. This is a show about diving. I've never read the manga, but I'll assume it's similar and explains how diving works. With that being said, Grand Blue is great at showcasing the beautiful landscape of the beach and the ocean, the exceptional personalities of the cast, and most of all... the wonderful joy of youth. The motivating opening gives you an uplifting and summer vibe that, if you were watching it while it was airing, makes you want to dance and enjoy the summer to its fullest extent. Honestly, watching Grand Blue during any other season just takes its charm away. It's summer. Enjoy it while watching this show. Much of its comedy is comprised of arguments and booze, which make up a huge portion of the anime. But don't stress. Remember. This is about diving. But because Grand Blue also wants to gives us other things, the comedy is just a bonus, you know? The characters are funny. Maybe not funny to others, but I found them hilarious. In terms of entertainment, Asobi Asobase takes the cake, but when it comes to the whole vibe, Grand Blue is king. Despite the fact that it isn't actually what it's supposed to be, it's still an anime that truly fits this season. The animation is stunning. Yeah, the faces, I know, the ridiculous facial expressions. But the look of the Grand Blue shop is just... dazzling. The scenery of the ocean, the beaches, the shops, the places, it's all eye-candy for me. I loved the bright and sunny depiction of these locations. Now back to the comedy. Not everyone likes it. Not everyone will enjoy it. I'm pretty sure most viewers have read the manga and are (probably) disappointed with what they got. As for me? I liked it. It was good. Nothing remarkable. It was just... good. I'm satisfied with what I got.

Ya know it was quite rare for me to give a 10 in all my anime reviews , my highest would be an 8......But with this anime, this is an exception, since, well in a story premise , it was chaotic, since it wasn't focus on diving, in fact diving only plays 20% of this anime's premise, rather this was more like a typical frat party, gone hilarious when everything was put on Iori and Kohie, two frendenenmies who would be at odd at one point and work together on the next, which two muscle meathead party animals Tokita and Kotobuki in the helm adds to the comedy, now the plot basically wasn't that organize, in fact it would shift from one scenario to the next, but kudos to original creator Inoue Kenji , he put organize chaos into something chaotic , so even though the story plot was about getting drunk, he did it in a very funny way, not like the other anime with alcohol theme in it that basically were nothing more than an endorsement anime, Artwisem the facial expression really did deliver very well, we can basically laugh out loud with every facial expressions we see especially when it come to them character either duking out with someone of someone ho expresses disgust or disappointment on to someone or something. Now when it come to the sound category, the one that has the most impact here was Cakey's monologue when we see her scream, shout or rant, Iori and Kohei's monologue did add to the impact when they're duking out and it can be considered as a big plus to this anime's comedy genre, so at this point I really have no more words to say to this Outstanding anime, cu'z basically this could be considered watching something that can be the best thing that has happened to your life and damn someone if they think that this is a worst anime , when a lotta funny was in this anime,so given that I have nothing more to say, here is waht I say about this anime's ratings: Story-Outstanding 10: I was funny and that's as good as it gets. especially when this anime's theme was more on a group of guys having a ball and getting wasted. Art- Very Good 8: The facial expression, yes the facial expression, it basically adds to the comedic aspect. Sound-Very Good 8: For Cakey's voice when she is disappointed and disgusted, Iori and Kohie when they're fighting. Character-Very Good 8: For the quirkiness of the characters around here when them guys go wild and naked......and just forget the diving. Enjoyment- Very Good 8: Totally not boring and some thing you can rewatch. Overall- Outstanding 10: Kudos to original creator Inoue, Kenji and kudos to Studio Zero-G , and If this will have a 2nd season the YEAH LET THE PARTY START!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Story: Oh my goodness, where to start with this masterpiece. While Grand Blue seems like a slice of life about diving, it’s more accurate to say it’s a slice of life about college. The story is packed with wonderful and…interesting characters! As a recent college graduate, I’ve had my fair share of parties and alcohol. And to see these character down alcohol and party hard, it really hits the funny bones (in a good way!). But underneath the comedy, there is a more meaningful plot and the bonds that these characters create move along very well throughout the episodes. Artwork & Animation: Grand Blue’s art focuses on facial expressions and its funnier and funnier the more you see them. The art and animation bring the designs and setting from the manga to life. The animations are simple but it works well for the show. Character(s): All the characters have a good amount of character development, more so the younger characters than the older ones. I love Iori’s transition from being very reserved to go all out with the boys in a matter of minutes within the first episode. The bonds that are created and strengthened throughout the show are nothing to brush off, they all feel genuine and organic making for a very appealing cast. Sound (OST & Voice Acting): As Grand Blue is one of the show where it’s unpredictable, the soundtrack must be able to accompany whatever wacky situation the casts throw themselves into. That calls for a very diverse soundtrack with a few “go-to” tunes for specific types of moments. Track 07 “Let’s sleep a little more …” is my personal favorite and the song I nicknamed “Sexy time…or not?”. You’ll understand if you listen to it and if you listen to it after you’ve watched the entire show, you’ll burst out laughing, 100% guaranteed. Enjoyment: Grand Blue came out of the BLUE and by the time I had finished the first episode it was the hook, line, and sinker. The outrageous and boisterous comedy that is presented in the show is fantastic and will have you falling out of your chair laughing. Overall: Hands down, one of the best comedy shows I’ve seen to date. Grand Blue’s eccentric characters, unorthodox story, an excessive amount of alcohol consumption hits a soft spot somewhere in my heart.

TL;DR: Grand Blue is a stupid show filled with a stupid cast. And that's why it's so great. Great animation? Intricate storyline? Compelling characters? Development? Bitch, I just need the boys. Fellow moe trashmen, are you tired of cute girls? If the answer is no, what if I told you you were lying to yourself? Because I did, and Grand Blue punched me in the face with its "I'm with the boys" mentality and then kindly reminded me that there is such a thing as overdosing on cuteness. The story comes as follow. Iori, a college freshmen, a young man, dumb, confident and full of hope prepared for a student life in a nice coastal shop owned by his uncle and in which live his two cute cousins. As you'd expect from such a setting, Iori then... gets dead drunk and naked with two muscular senpais who happen to be members of a diving club. In you come for an anime about peak college life, doing dumb shit with a bunch of dumb guys, sometimes they dive in the ocean, but nobody really cares about that, it's not like you would expect such a thing after hearing the title "Grand Blue". Honest to goodness, this anime is a train that will constantly come rolling, the end of the journey doesn't matter, the present is what truly counts, it's the very definition of being young. If you have time to regret your actions, that means you haven't done enough things that are worth regretting, and this anime will shove that basic lesson in your face, with comedy based on the characters' somewhat relatable suffering and stupid shenanigans to make you lose the North. The mood also perfectly comes to complement this idea, with its seaside vacation vibes, and friendly party setting, both of which the OP and ED symbolize in their own fashion. Every character is stupid, it's not the childish stupid you constantly see in anime. It's the kind of stupid that is very fitting for college life, although a rather over the top stupid, I will give you that. But this is the stupidity that makes you think "those guys are stupid, and I love them". And the few straight men (not literally you thirsty fujos) really only serve their purpose of highlighting how very stupid everyone else is. Of course, some people will come and trash the show for such things as a hit or miss humor or a lack of everything that is supposed to make an anime good. But fuck those by the book people, this isn't an anime to judge through a critic's frame. It's an amazing ride with stupid and funny characters that you get to know like they were your actual friends and laugh at their over the top antics. If you think you're too good for this anime, the truth is that this anime is too good for you.

I have never laughed so hard to an anime before this one. I've watched a lot of comedy shows like Asobi Asobase and Konosuba, but this one definitely takes the cake in the comedy category. It had bizarre yet really laughable comedy and it had me hooked from the very first episode. There is no real story it, just follows the life of Iori who lives with his relatives that own a diving shop and love diving. The character development is really enjoyable to watch as Iori becomes one of the groups most notorious members also in turn turning him into a very hilarious character to watch. I know that this may not be your typical college life but that's what makes it good as well for me. It's always interesting thinking about what weird and crazy things that they will think up next. The soundtracks and sound effects for this show were top notch. It made all of the comedy in the show just that much better. The opening songs and OSTs were also incredibly good. It matched the mood of most scenes and captivated my attention during tense for funny moments. I really am looking forward and praying for a second season to this amazing anime, it has given me something to laugh at whenever I need to and I would also recommend this to anyone that likes comedy needs a good laugh. All in all, a masterpiece in my opinion.

------SPOILER-FREE-------- (It's a comedy anime tho so like idek why I'm saying this) What makes a good comedy anime? Honestly, there’s not much to it in my opinion. As long as something has me laughing, I consider it a good comedy anime. Grand Blue however had me ROLLING on the floor after and during each episode. There’s not much to say about Grand blue but that’s part of its charm. It’s hard to describe what makes it so amazing and enjoyable. The constant banter and just pure insanity in each episode are to die for. However, I think for one to truly enjoy Grand Blue they should be of drinking age as the majority of the humor in this anime is alcohol-based. It is rare for me to relate to a character to this extent but I think personally the fact that I followed the story of this city boy attending a small-town university, joining a club and drinking his ass off, and getting himself into trouble at every turn was probably THE MOST relatable feeling I’ve had when watching an anime in the last 6 years of my anime journey. The only bad thing I can say about Grand Blue is that there’s NOT ENOUGH GRAND BLUE!!

They say first impressions are everything, and Grand Blue makes one hell of a first impression. Starting the first episode till the last there is non-stop humour that is able to lift anyone up even from the most depressing moods. It is just too stupidly good! Now onto the real thing, To start off Grand Blue isn't your typical slice of life/comedy Anime. Instead, it is the rare faithfully adapted Piece of Art that stays loyal to the source material of "Grand Blue Dreaming." Now, why would I say that Grand Blue isn't your typical type of anime? Mainly because it focuses solely on Comedy and nothing else, something like the Gintama approach but with only 12 episodes how can the writers hope to make it interesting? That's right, to prove their abilities the writers showcase the effectiveness of Slice of Life when done right. Which is why the main ingredient for any Slice of Life is comedy. People often forget that Anime is another excuse to escape from reality which is why people tend to go for fantasy themes, dark realities or simply fairy-like romances. The creators of Grand Blue understand this and created this comedic masterpiece which had me laughing almost every minute. The story isn't the main factor of why the narrative was so good but rather the way it was paced and the way it is presented to the audience. It is direct, to the face and simply irresistible. For an anime like this, you wouldn't expect much from the music and its art but you'd be surprised by the quality that this title possesses. Well-fitting music, alongside eye-candies for the audience to both admire and appreciate as they sink into the characters growing on them. Needless to say, I enjoyed this anime very much, to be honest, I used to think that Konosuba was the best comedy title out there but perhaps Grand Blue could rival that very special spot in my heart as the top comedy anime. I can't wait for Season 2 and have really high hopes that it will continue riding on its success. This show doesn't shed much depth but if there is anything that I can take away from it would be to live without fear and to take life as is. Do not fear going forward but look forward to the potential excitement when you venture into new boundaries. It is quite an interesting take on not taking things for granted and to do the things you love while you still can. The pacing is absolutely amazing, every episode the characters progress and make new friends without discarding the original members. They almost all share the same air time. The ones that you care for anyways. The show doesn't feel slow nor fast. It is just right and this is the kind of pacing worthy of a masterpiece. Needless to say, Grand Blue's Success stems from its comedic routes. Without it the show would be atrociously bad due to the fact that comedy is the sole driving force that pushes everything else forward. But, we should not discount that the characters in the show is absolutely likeable. Not a single one of them feels annoying or an eyesore. They're all lovable and grows on you as you continue episode by episode. A definite good introduction anime for people starting and a gem for people who love anime. Grand Blue is worthy of getting a 10. A True Masterpiece.

Grand Blue: the Strip Rock-Paper-Scissors and Alcoholism show. It is a show about diving, in the same way School Days is a romance. The diving element takes second place to the show’s main genres: slice of life and comedy. Which, in itself, isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Slice of life shows can be great. They can be relaxing, heart-warming, and funny. They can make you laugh or cry. Or, they can make you cringe. This show falls most definitely into the latter category. And a perfect example of this lies in its characters, an aspect that normally makes or breaks slice-of-life shows. First off: Two bodybuilder lookalikes who do very little in the show besides encourage the MCs to drink themselves silly, get naked at every opportunity, and all around just be negative influences. I think they’re meant to be ‘manly’ characters but the only – and I mean the only time we ever see them getting serious is when they talk about diving. The rest of the time they consume massive quantities of mixed drinks (as well as encouraging/forcing others to do the same) and show very little respect for anyone. They think nothing of humiliating someone if it’s to raise money for their precious diving club (which must have been shown at least ONCE in the anime by now). I’m trying to think of more to say about them and I can’t. They’re good at tennis? They’re essentially the musclebound, brain-dead stereotypical college guys we’re all embarrassed to be around unless we’re wasted. Maybe some people watching this will be reminded (fondly, or not so fondly) of their own college/uni days. Either way, although I found watching them enjoyable, it was only because sometimes I just need to watch something ridiculously cringey. Take away majority of the nudity, decrease the drinking (yes, there still needs to be drinking but not 3 drinking sessions per ep), and add a few more scenes where they show off their diving expertise. Then these two would have actually gone from being comic characters to being decent, slightly fleshed-out characters. Iori, the MC…where do I begin? Spineless? He’ll back down when confronted with anyone angry but it’s not quite what I’m looking for. Reckless? He’s definitely that but without the confidence needed to be properly reckless. Pathetic? Well, he grovels on the floor often enough, gives in when confronted with any sort of peer pressure, and frequently embarrasses himself by making offensive remarks to others. The only time he’s ‘confident’ is when he’s been egged on by his ‘friends’, or when making objectifying comments to his cousin (who, by the way, he seems to fancy) - and that might just be mistaking idiocy for confidence. The sad part is that when he’s by himself he actually seems to be quite a decent human being. He’s the type of person that is ruined by bad friends, and his ruin is shown clearly in the anime. He literally goes from being the new guy to being the creepy laughingstock of the university in one episode, after his ‘friends’ deliver him to the entrance passed out drunk and wearing nothing but a pair of boxers. The only real thing, the only thing that makes him partway relatable is his struggle when it comes to swimming and diving. He starts off by being afraid of the water, but actually faces his fears and becomes a better person for it. This is in no small part due to Nanaka and Chisa, two of the female leads of the show. Nanaka can be disposed of easily as she is completely one-dimensional from the beginning. Iori’s sweet, kind cousin who’s also in love with her sister (to the extent of acting like a yandere over her). She appears randomly, makes some nice comments, helps people out with things and then disappears again. Exploring her background a little, or even her relationship with her sister would have helped give her more depth, but no. Maybe next season. Chisa is a far more interesting character. She’s just as kind in her own way, but will not suffer fools gladly. At some points she feels like the only sane character in the series. She despises some of the guys’ more vulgar actions, and has no patience for Iori’s ill-timed and ill-humoured comments. But somehow, even miraculously, she realises that he’s not intrinsically a bad person. Immature yes, but a person with his own struggles and fears. She helps him a lot, both when he’s looking and when he isn’t. Plus, she’s adorable. Iori’s best friend is…pitiful. Yep, that’s probably the best way to describe him. He’s almost exactly a carbon copy of Iori but with an added anime obsession. Perhaps he does have slightly more sense, but no matter how much he protests he always ends up joining in with Iori’s idiotic schemes and mistakes. The two of them argue frequently, which is fun to watch initially, but soon becomes as boring as it is repetitive. He doesn’t seem to have any character development either, besides learning how to drink an entire bucket of vodka in one. It’s development…of a sort. Aina, or ‘cakey’ is the unusual one of the cast, and actually fairly likeable. She has some character development too, which I’m not going to go into as that would spoil at least one ep. I will say though, the eps with her in were the ones I enjoyed the most. Plus, she’s kind of relatable, in that ‘weird but not downright loony’ way. Someone needs to give her a make-up tutorial though. Purple haired girl is a fun character to watch. There has to be at least one girl who’s as crazy as all the boys, right? To prove that strong, independent, alcoholic women with no inhibitions do exist. Oh, and she’s loud. Raucous laughter echoes wherever she goes. But despite all that, she’s a kind, loyal friend, the type you don’t want to hang with all the time but you’re glad for when push comes to shove, because you know she’s got your back. You can also tell her all the stuff you can’t share with anyone else. And she won’t spill it (unless it’s for a laugh, then you’re on your own). She brings a lot of life to the cast (which is basically a good thing), and does provide the setup for a fair few awkward situations. So there you have the cast. There’s not much to say about the rest. Art? I’m no judge. Lots of incredibly creepy facial expressions though – they border on caricatures a lot of the time. Music? I really enjoyed the music, and found myself singing along to the op more than once. Thumbs up for that. “Be passionate, my friends,” and all. Plot? See above. Oh and there’s a bit of diving thrown in. Overall: Now, of course lots of people will enjoy this show. I did myself, in parts. But will anyone enjoy it because it’s a deep meaningful show? Of course not. It’s the type of show people come to laugh at. It’s the type of immature humour that can be completely hit or miss. It is not a good show. But it’s a funny show, in its own way. As I mentioned earlier, sometimes you just need to watch something ridiculous for the fun of it. If brainless fun, with a high dose of cringe, is what you’re looking for, you’ll enjoy this one.

Okay! So, I know we guys have a lot of preferences when it comes to anime some of us like Harem, Romace, Drama, Action, Horror, Psychological etc., And sometimes Comedy. We have our own opinion on the matter, depending on how an Anime connect to us. So here is my un-biased opinion or review on this one because i am an anime lover no matter the genre is. Honestly before i began the series i had my doubts, I was thinking weither this anime be any good, so i didn't get my hopes up on this one, but, to my surprise after watching the first ep i got hooked! Story: Its about the life of a freshman going to college for the 1st time and he is really excited, just like me back then, to make it more exciting he's going to school far away from home, whoooo sounds more fun! You can do everything you want, so he started living with his uncle along with some weird people, or should i say "Bad Influences?" 😂 Along with his 2 beautiful fanservice female cousins (its moderate so we good). He was forced to join their club "Diving Peek a Boo Club" and turns out his unlce's house is where the club members meet, because, its a Rental Diving Store called the Grand Blue (yeah it's the name of the anime) to make the long story short, he got influenced met some odd new people along the way, and he got wasted till the end 😂. The story has no serious plot more like a Sitcom (forgot the other term, Slice of life?) type of anime. The story talks about college life, we all experienced it in some way, or some weird and funny way, so this anime has a bit of connection to me personally, made me think back while i was in college and how crazy we are back then, you know parties and stuff, its a part of life or should i say the part where you lose your virginity 😂. Hey no regrets! 😂 You made a irreversible decision 😂. So that's the gist of it. For me it was good and refreshing i like it! It's crazy and fun to watch. 8/10 Art: hmmmm.. art is in moderate level, I noticed they focused more in making the characters to look more appealing. It's 8/10 Sound: feels like i'm driving a convertable feeling the ocean breeze on my cheeks while fading away on the sunset. 8/10. Characters: They are funny all of them has some characteristics that make them cute and funny. Again there is no serious plot so there is no major character developments put it in mind that this is comedy. I laughed all the way through so. 8/10. Enjoyment: Did I or did I not enjoy this? Well i laughed at every episode so hell yeah! I was hoping for more actually. 10/10. Overall: it was worth the binge! I did not regret watching this, it was fun it was new, a little bit of mature! So i don't recommend this for youngsters so don't destroy your life yet! 😂 Some puns and scenes here are dangerous to your health. I would give it an 8/10. If you wanna have a blast of real comedy though, you better watch Gintama! 😂 So there it is! Sayonara!

Grand Blue Dreaming is pure chaos in the best possible way. It’s one of those rare comedies that actually makes you laugh out loud every episode like, real laughter, not just a smirk. The facial expressions alone deserve an award; the animation goes completely unhinged in the funniest ways. The humor is ridiculous, over-the-top, and somehow always lands. After watching a few dark or heavy shows, Grand Blue feels like a breath of fresh (and slightly alcoholic) air. The cast is insane, the timing is perfect, and the energy never drops. It’s not deep, it’s not dramatic and that’s exactly what makes it so good. It’s just pure fun with a group of idiots you can’t help but love. A hilarious, feel-good comedy that hits every time . perfect for cleansing your brain after too much serious anime. 🍺

Brief overview: MUST-WATCH It is a Masterpiece of comedy about college life. VODKA! That line is a masterpiece line from Iori Kitahara. Story 10/10 A simple story about college life, friends, and clubs that makes up for it because of the comedy. The story of Grandblue is one of the greatest stories of all time. The comedy of Grand Blue doesn't just purely focus on the character's personality but showcases the characters attending those day-to-day events around it by implementing an explosive comedy to compensate for the entertainment. They balanced out the comedy with a slice of the life and sometimes educational content to the series which many other anime mostly focus on the slice of life side and fails to entertain the audience and this doesn't. Characters 10/10 This anime is so good because of the characters. If you don't pay enough attention to the characters in Grand Blue you will hear one of the best voice acting in anime history. They put a massive amount of effort into the voice and the reason why it's so funny is because the characters have a very unique and funny voice that matches the atmosphere they're in. The characters are very likable at first Iori seems like just an ordinary guy, but the more he stays within the club the more he matches the silly culture within the club. All the characters in here are silly, but not stupidly silly. They all have a very funny personalities which adds a lot of depth to the story. Animation 10/10 What's impressive about the animation is that it uses the generic-looking animation to its advantage. They fill a lot of the explosive background in the most intensive comedy moments and sometimes if you look at it. The characters like Kohei at the moment when he was doing the female voice he will slowly look more and more feminine. The animation serves its purpose because If you put too much quality animation within the comedy anime the animation would look way too serious and the tone would feel different. Another impressive thing about the animation is that it is heavily inspired by attack on titan. They took seriousness of Attack on Titan and transfer it to a comedic artistic style which is very appreciated. TLDR This is one of the rarest and best anime where the voice acting is god-tier and the slice of life is coveted well into the comedy genre. All the characters are great with explosive personality and the animation suits well within the anime. The story is great that mostly focus on the college life with so many comedy that has added in to make it fun to watch.
