First time reviewing an anime ! Thank you for reading ! Grand blue is a comedy anime and its an extreme one. Jokes of it never gets old - I randomly start over and over again to just drown my self into laughter ! Each character is uniqe and funny their own. They are not generic "tsundere A" or "kuundere B" or "stupid but strong C" character design. It is something that I didn't see before. Art style at first is very simple but at "focus" scenes it is very detailed glorified to make it more funny. It is quite good match for this kind of anime. It is very similiar to PRISON SCHOOL anime which had a similiar style. A MUST WATCH in my opinion , I showed it to all of my friends (there are few em but...) and all loved it !

“Grand Blue” is what happens when You mix a fever dream with the most nonsensical, deranged and dumb humor You can imagine. It might be the fact that I was mostly stuck in a lab with a shit load of numbers to analyze for the past few days but I actually had fun with this one. It’s dumb, borderline retarded and had barely anything that isn’t a cheap joke and yet it made me laugh a few times. Like I said, I might be overworked. It’s an over the top comedy and it wears that on its sleeve. It uses over exaggerated reactions to a lot of things as it’s comedy and uses too much of the garbage notion that loud = funny (spoiler alert: It’s not). It has little to no story and relies fully on its plot and fan service. The problem is that this show overwhelms You with its “comedy”. It barely gives itself time to breathe. It’s just one cheap joke after another. Apart from the first moments of the first episode You get very little scenes in the whole show that don’t have jokes forced on them. Not surprisingly this works to the show's detriment. After the first two or three episodes You’ve seen enough to know with 99% certainty what will happen next and even properly guess the actors that will be used to achieve it. Trust me, after the first few episodes there will be very little (but not nothing so I guess it’s something) that will surprise You. Surprisingly enough there are scenes where someone, probably by accident, wrote something that uses contrast to let the comedy take a breather. More surprisingly enough, those moments are pretty solid. They show different sides of the characters and if there were more of those the show could actually be solid. It’s almost like… do I dare say it? Someone wanted to actually write a proper story? Yeah… I don’t believe that either. It’s probably just an accident. As for the characters… Let's be honest, they are terrible. A lot of them act the same with slight differences in mannerisms (and design) to let You tell them apart. There isn’t even much to talk about. Apart from drinking and diving You don’t get to see them do much of anything. The show does throw in some other kind of fuckery but they needed to change the coterie to do it properly. As a consequence the show uses two groups for its humor. The main group - the diving club is used for more sexual and adult humor and the classmate group to poke fun at teenage romcoms. At the end of the day “Grand Blue” won’t break any new grounds but if You’re overworked (like me) and want something that only requires a two digit IQ this could help You to unwind.

Grand Blue is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. It is on par (if not better than) Golden Boy, which many consider to be the primo standard of Comedy anime. The story at its core follows the various escapades of a male protagonist throughout college and the diving club that he joins. As a college student myself, all the jokes and exacerbations of college life were incredibly humorous and relatable; some even making me nostalgic for the equivalently stupid shit I did in my early years of college (we made something dangerously close to Grand Blue's "Oolong Tea" recipe in my Freshman year). The humor cannot be understated in it's excellency; utilizing the strong character cast allows for some of the funniest material I have ever seen in a show. Iori and Kouhei's bond is second to none. It feels genuine (which is rare in anime, lets be honest), believable, and works so well in conjunction with the comedy present in the show. Unequivocally, a lot of the humor is completely over the top -- which is only strengthened by Grand Blue's equally over the top facial animations. It's important to note that this isn't a harem, romance, or any other ulterior genre other than a Comedy Slice of Life. I think that a lot of people get disappointed because they expect either a serious diving show, or the humor doesn't land and they're left vying for more. I wouldn't recommend this show if that's what you're looking for. If you want a nostalgic, creative interpretation of some of the best qualities of college life, you must pick this up. If you are a college student, you must pick this up. It is impossible not to burst out laughing every five minutes in this show. Some people may argue that the characters depicted are so alien from reality that the humor is lost in the process - but I disagree entirely. The actions depicted in this show really seem a small step away from the fraternities I have witnessed, even in all of their insanity. And while this is a purely anecdotal observation, I do think you are truly missing out if you write this off simply because it isn't realistic enough in your depiction of college. Parties I have gone to at college have included me drinking entire wine coolers, half of dozen cups of blackout juice, topless parties, etc. The point I'm making is that I know my experiences aren't solely confined to just me. They're quite stereotypical, and those are the stereotypes Grand Blue makes fun of. (In the show, instead of drinking topless, they just drink naked. Instead of drinking high proof vodka, they drink Everclear recreationally). I think if you have a relatable experience, this show will be one of the funniest shows you will ever watch. tl;dr - incredibly funny Seinen show, however, if you are not the target audience you may not enjoy this nearly as much. Aimed at college students, new graduates, or those who have fond college memories.

Grand Blue Dreaming is a spectacular anime that allows for a ton of laughs throughout each episode that you watch. Every time you finish an episode, you feel the need to watch more because each episode is engaging and hilarious. Story 10/10: Overall the story isn't truly a story, as it just goes through the lives of Iori and his friends or clubmates but the whole execution and the written work with the script is fabulous and creates beautiful humor to enjoy. Art 10/10: Don't get me started on the most serious drawn faces known to man. The little moments when the close-ups occur or just scenes intended to make the audience laugh, the art just reminds me a lot like titans. Even when these moments don't occur like serious heart-felt times, the characters are always well-drawn and animation is always good. In some moments, the backdrop will also be really pretty. Sound: 10/10 The voice actors work for this anime was IMMENSELY GREAT! They put so much work into the show and I love that. The sound effects are also perfectly chosen for the right moments to add to the comedy. Characters: 10/10 I find all of the characters to be awesome and funny (Kouhei is my favorite btw lol) and I didn't dislike any characters in the series. They are all well-written and very relatable to in real life. The friendship between each characters is outstanding as it develops throughout the series and it's something the viewer can feel good about. Enjoyment: 10/10 I REALLY, REALLY ENJOYED GRAND BLUE DREAMING! It is such a worthy watch of your time and you'll never become bored because of the episodes. Each episode is packed with comedy and serious moments as well. Never enjoyed a show more than this in this particular genre of slice of life. I laughed so much every episode that my throat started to go dry or hurt. It's even more fun to watch this show with a friend or more. Overall: 10/10 I believe overall this is a one of a kind anime, as it's funny when some anime that are labeled as "comedy" aren't for most people. I feel like Grand Blue can be a good show for everyone, and I truly do believe that. Please give this show a watch and I swear you will not regret it.

I don't review many shows but this series in particular really needed one. It's the true epitome of a "mixed bag" show. It has everything in position to be memorable, meaningful, and beautiful. It then throws most of this potential in the trash in favor of the crudest jokes, the most minimal animation and art, and an unfulfilling story. The plot is that a boy fresh entering into college ends up joining a Diving Club with the genuine desire to learn about diving and have fun with the people in the club. ENTER THE CENSORED, NAKED MALE BODY BUILDERS. For the cheapest of cheap jokes, the first episode delves into how the Diving Club seems to be the most generic depiction of a fraternity club you could ever imagine. Basically the movie Animal House except with less fun, more peer pressure, and zero consensuality. Obviously the problem is that this manga was written by someone who lives in Japan, a country that shuns open personalities and excessive drinking. Also I haven't really ever heard of fraternities being in Japan so it's pretty natural to have an out of date depiction of American college life. However, sex and women are depicted in the typical Japanese fashion so most of the women ridicule or blame the men for things that they are either trying to avoid or things that they shouldn't be ridiculed for doing. Also of course the main characters are trying to get laid and drink for 90% of the show, but then when the 10% of passionate diving takes place you're somehow supposed to feel some sort of emotion... Bizarrely, I think if this diving series had more diving it'd be very very good.(imagine that...) The rare bits of genuine romance were very well done and the personalities interacting throughout the show are usually very enjoyable to see interact between each other, but the bad characters are cardboard characters(1/10) who rip away any genuine humanity the show could've had in it. The jokes aren't exactly bad, but they are so predictable that you will be waiting 5-10 minutes for a joke to play out that you knew the end to for the whole time. I suppose this wouldn't be a problem in the manga since you could read it so quickly, but there are whole episodes of there being basically only 1 or 2 jokes so I have to question the manga's pacing. Music is forgettable but not obnoxious. Art isn't bad but is basic. Funnily enough, I'd give the story for the series a 10/10, but it's the pacing of the anime that can't keep up at all. For instance, right here I can say "they got drunk at night and partied till the sun came up. They then got ready to dive into the ocean while hi-jinks ensued." that doesn't sound too bad, until you realize they drink for 5+ minutes, hear random people complain for a minute or two, they wake up and do the whole hangover thing for a while, and then the main characters are harassed and ridiculed for another minute or two while they get ready to start the day. This happens in more than one episode so it gets tiresome to see very quickly. I think the biggest downfall of this show is that it's shown off as being a diving show with some possible romance, when in reality it's half a show where people drink, half poor comedy sketches, and then some exceptional diving and romance scenes maybe 5% of the time. Btw, there are no gay overtones in the show at all, all the naked guys are just for comedy or to be funny for girl readers I suppose. It's not even a problem when they have those scenes, but that's way too much shown to be the whole purpose of the show. I don't think you'd be wasting your time to check out this show since I really do like some character designs and personalities. However, as much as I'd like to say the first episode doesn't represent the rest of the show, it really does, in all the worst ways.

[Pretty short - Spoiler free review] I Stumbled across Grand Blue out of nowhere and its a show i enjoyed immensely. Grand blue follows the story about a collage boy who decides to move to his uncle and cousins by the beach, there he meets a lot of macho manly men ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) and his cousins ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Its a Simple Lighthearted comedy with great jokes. the story isn't anything special and is only used as a setup for everything. The art is basic and works well with its slapstick comedy. Same goes for the sounds. The Characters are the best and idk whether i like Chisa or Azusa more. This is definitely a you'll either hate it or love it show, but i think most will enjoy it and i definitely recommend it to anyone reading this review. The only reason im not gonna give this show a 10 is because its too short and #NeedsMoreChisa. The best thing that will go with this show is a light beer, but if your underage a carbonated lemon water is great. Overall (9) [Story:6 // Art:7 // Sound:7 // Characters:10 // Enjoyment:10] #NeedsMoreChisa #AzusaIsBestBareBae .

After seeing many positive reviews I decided to watch this and while it did deliver on the comic aspect it fell short on a lot of the other aspects. All in all if you want a relaxed funny anime I would recommend watching it. The story is kind of boring and feels out of place, it connects two super random things in an awkward way. Nothing super wrong with that. I feel like this anime was never meant to have a greater story going for it so again nothing bad, I'm just pointing it out. The art is great super nice and crisp I like it a lot. Throwing in some extreme caricature like faces adds to the comedy part. Totally unrelated but some faces look like straight out of Attack on Titan xD. Sound wise the OP is amongst my least favorite but this is hardly relevant. Characters are ok. Not much development happens but that is to be expected. One of the reasons why I gave character such a low rating was because of episode 8 in particular. I hate that episode it made me think lower of the characters and it really really bugged me. Maybe it was just a failed episode. I like to think of it like that but whatever can't be helped I guess. Overall the enjoyment was high and it got a bunch of laugh out of me so I was pretty satisfied.

first of all i want to say something. THIS ANIME IS FUNNY AS HELL you will definitely laugh when watching this. the jokes are easy to understand and even though they keep using the same joke, it still funny. as you can see from the rating of the anime, its surprisingly high due to its hilarious comedy. i dont know about you guys but i laugh the whole f-ing show ! it has similar vibes to prison school with its adult-ish joke. if you enjoy prison school, then you will definitely enjoy Grand Blue. by the way this anime is about diving *wink *wink ;) . welp 80% of it is all about doing something stupid and alcohol and the rest is about diving. other than that, the story is just like your average slice of life comedy anime but with some black magic that can make you laugh the whole thing. character is like any other comedy anime but like i said, funny as hell. and enjoyment, damn i enjoy every little bit of it ! definitely gonna watch it again ! enough with reading reviews, just watch it and i can guarentee you its funny as hell!

I started watching this because I watched Prison School and I heard this had the same kind of humour. After watching it I can say that it's funny but not as funny as Prison School. The show has a very simple story, about a young man who wants to have the perfect college life, but gets into some weird shit. The art is amazing IMO, and the ocean and beaches and stuff look beautiful. The sound is just normal sound, but I really like the intro song. The characters are well thought out. The enjoyment is pretty good, but sometimes it does get a little bit boring. Overall it's a very cute anime and it's nice to just watch and chill. I hope for a second season.

When I decided to watch this anime I did not read the plot. Based on the picture I thought it would be a typical school romance taking place in a coastal city along with the usual slapstick comedy and other cliches that we have been used to. But I never ever expected this to be one of the funniest comedies I have watched in a long time. The characters are hilarious, the comedy is top-notch and it is such an enjoyable watch that will give you a great time and summer vibes! All the characters are likeable and have their own "intricacies" and peculiarities, which enhances the comedy part even more! The plot is nothing special and does not really lead anywhere. It is mostly supportive and acts as a foothold for the comedy, as a channel through which the comedy flows. However, it is presented in such an amusing way that will keep you entertained throughout the duration of the series. The animation is visually pleasing. The music is good and enhances the intensity of the comedy scenes. The opening song is very memorable and catchy and I ended up never skipping it whenever I was starting a new episode. Overall, a very relaxing story that will give you a great time watching it, big laughs and it is very possible that you might relate to it if you like drinking parties! It will also "broaden your perspective" by introducing alternative ways that a simple game like Rock, Scissors and Paper can be played... ...you will understand very soon what I mean after you start watching it...!!! A great comedy and a must see!

I wasn't planning on watching this, but my friend who reads and enjoys the manga urged me to since the main character is "an engineering student who can't swim but likes the ocean" like me. I thought I'd give it a go since I like comedy and also because the manga is so popular. This will be a pretty short review. Humor is subjective but honestly, most of the humor in every single episode boils down to the same three things: - Kohei and Iori refuse to drink and/or get naked and then 5 minutes later they're doing exactly that. - Iori and his other virgin friends being jealous of any other guy who has a gf - Something going on between Chisa and Iori. Additional notes: - Not sure about what engineering is like in Japan but like, what kind of engineering student has that much time to waste doing... whatever it is Iori's doing half the time? - Most of the female characters are unbearably boring except Azusa who I DO actually like. She's the real MVP for trying to get Iori and Kohei together just because Iori lied to her and told her that he likes him lol. - My rating is biased I guess because of the fact that I don't really like harem anime.

Grand Blue I expect so much as an anime watcher from this show, since i always hype about anime that has no school story, unviersity is a complete difference experience than school, that's why i always hype or looking forward to watch anime that has this kind of story ever since i watched genshiken (a bit) and golden time. But, as i watched the first episode i kinda feel something is wrong with this. The art is really entertaining (i really like comedy with OVERDETAILED face, it makes the comedy even good) thats the good part, but not all of it is that good. For me the story is kinda bland. It confuse me on what part the story want to focus to, is it the comedy? the club? the relationship? idk, i know the story is not all, but because the story is not all, at least focus on something. Well at least the comedy is good i almost always laugh on every episode because of it. And watching iori and kouhei bonding is fun too, but i still can't accept it end just like that, it just feels too hanging and bland. I know that the point of this anime is showing a heavy comedy while showing us how beautiful is our world (sea) is. But IMO there are two ways to do a heavy comedy. One is do the heavy comedy with light story, and the other one is do the heavy comedy along with the heavy story. I feel that Grand Blue doesn't choose either of them, making it so unbalanced. The gap between the story and the comedy is big, making it kinda feels weird when the anime actually tells what's the story about. After watching it, all i can say is not every anime is for everyone. Its an anime for you that searching anime with heavy comedy and light story.

*updated review I score based on enjoyment, and not on "the music here was inappropriate" and "the characters weren't relatable enough". Obviously, those things do factor into enjoyment but I dont score each individual factor and bust out the calculator for an average score. Regardless, I will talk about the story art sound etc. too, however briefly. Story-9 The story is pretty basic, which isn't a bad thing at all. Its a pretty linear and easy to follow story and it fits the premise of the Anime. As a comedy, the settings and events that take place perfectly set up the jokes and such. Art- 8 The art is good, animation is a bit choppy, but the titan faces, scenery, and characters in general are well drawn. Sound-9 The OP and ED is great and the music doesn't feel out of place anywhere. A large variety of music and sounds too, so songs don't feel overused or repetitive. The voice actors initially seemed mediocre but they grew on me more and more as the story progressed. Character-10 This is a purely comedy based anime, and the characters are made perfectly for it. They all have their little traits and whatnot that make them unique, although their style is pretty normal. By the end of the show, all the characters are well developed, unique, and especially lovable in their own ways. Enjoyment-9 Only thing that matters, obviously everything above factors into enjoyment. As a comedy, this anime meets pretty much every requirement. The only thing I do believe needs work on is the pacing in the first few episodes. I don't, however, blame them for this as the source material is so joke-packed that itd be hard for anyone to adapt (Zero-g actually does a great job adapting most of the jokes, it just feels rushed at times). The pacing definitely got better afterwards, which made it more enjoyable. Cool, thats about it. The overall score is the same as the Enjoyment score and I hope it gets another season, as the manga is pretty far ahead and stays consistently good. Definitely a good and worth while comedy to watch.

pros: - the opening theme is an absolute bop - quality art whether its of the underwater world or just people half naked - the characters all add something to the show, and i don’t think there’s any that are at all dislikable; although they are designed for comedic purposes (aka exaggerated), they still have unique traits/quirks that cause the watcher to feel more interested in them - soundtrack works well in supporting the mood of a scene - occasionally they do a close up of iori’s eyes and not to be a creep or anything but he’s got really pretty eyes and it makes everything worth while cons: - the jokes get repetitive every once in a while - the slight theme of incest may put people off?

Slap knee comedy that can fall short for some people if they aren't a huge fan of "turn page comedy" and the odd faces. I'm a huge fan and definitely see myself rewatching the series as a binge watch to prepare for the second season if we get one! Easily give it a 9/10 as an anime only watcher. I binged all of the first 9 episodes in a single sitting and once I come back for a another run around, I know I'm going to enjoy it just as much. Even if you aren't a huge comedy fan, give this "diving" show a spin, I promise you'll enjoy it.

Let this open the floodgates to more college and drinking oriented anime. Grand Blue is an adaptation of the critically acclaimed manga of the same name serialized in the good! Afternoon magazine. It tells a tale about a young "20-year old" college student looking forward to a fresh start after enduring three years at an all boys high school. Little does he know that everything that can go wrong in his college life, will go wrong. Since I'm writing this review as a manga enthusiast, the jokes didn't hit me as hard as it could have since I'm technically experiencing them for a second time. But even so, many of the scenes were still hilarious and wonderfully directed to emphasize the humor captured in the manga. I didn't expect any less from Shinji Takamatsu, an experienced director that has done Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou and Gintama. Many pages that I've re-read over and over again still got me laughing because of how well done the comedy was. I'm sure that, if I didn't read the manga beforehand, I would've rated this show a 10/10 like I did with the manga. Before reading Grand Blue, my experiences with anime comedies were mainly derived from romantic comedy shenanigans that heavily abuse the typical anime tropes you pick up quickly when you first get into this medium. Not to say that I don't love this type of humor because I do, but there were very few comedies that I've experienced that tries to deviate from your typical fanservicey romantic comedy type jokes such as Nichijou and Hataraku Maou-sama! Grand Blue is the type of comedy that takes another step forwards towards expanding the boundaries to what could be considered a successful comedy. It was very risky creating a comedy targeted towards young adult men that was focused towards heavy drinking and positive college experiences, a characteristic that tends to be less popular among the otaku community. But even so, Kenji Inoue decided to say "Fuck it, I'm going to write a manga that parodies frat culture and I don't care if it's not going to be popular among the magazine's audience". And boy did that pay off. However, the courage to take these such risks itself isn't what makes comedy good. No, the setting only attracts viewers that don't have previous knowledge of the franchise. The reason why Grand Blue is phenomenal is how easy it is to develop emotional attachments to the characters even though it's not supposed to be taken seriously. The characters are by far, the best part of Grand Blue. There is not a single character that I don't like in the show. Every character feels like it has a purpose, and nothing feels like it's left out. If comedy could be critiqued with plot holes, then you'll never find a single plot hole in Grand Blue. The gags are wonderfully well relatable settings that exaggerate the possibility of things going wrong. Every terrible experience, every hard lesson that you may have learned in college will make you laugh it all off once you view these characters' experiences. Everything in the show goes so wrong that you'll start to understand "Hey, maybe getting the short end of the stick is what makes so life exciting and the climb more worthwhile". It's the heartwarming down-to-earth comedy that makes it so relatable. Every gag in the story is never wasted. Every misunderstanding in the story always carries over. Characters are all so easily recognizable by their personalities that you know what is going to happen. A lot of people say that if the comedy is predictable, then it's mediocre. But I feel like if the characters are so distinguishable enough that you can predict what will happen based on they previous experiences and personalities, then it becomes the best kind of predictable. I can understand why not everybody will enjoy the humor in this show, however. Comedy is subjective, and in my experience, comedy isn't funny if I cannot relate to the events and experiences portrayed in the show. If you genuinely don't like it because you detest the vibes that the events give you, then by all means don't continue to watch it. If Grand Blue doesn't capture your heart in the first few episodes, then please just drop it because you won't enjoy the rest of it. You will know if you love this show right from the get-go. The only reason why I can't give this show a perfect score is because Zero-G has room for improvement and although it looks solid, I believe Grand Blue is a comedy that deserves production values on the scale that studios like Kyoto Animation have. But for now, I can settle with just having an anime alone as again, Takamastu still did an incredible job with bringing a manga comedy to life.

Saying Grand Blue is about diving is like saying Jurassic Park is about zoo management. Technically? yeah. Legally? I guess. Spiritually? Absolutely not. Yes, there is diving, there are scuba tanks, there are breathtaking underwater landscapes that'll make you want to get certified on the spot but the second these idiots crawl back onto land, every ounce of common sense immediately evaporates into the atmosphere. Before you know it, someone's naked, someone's screaming, someone's being forced to drink a suspiciously clear liquid that's apparently "water" But hey, Welcome to college! - WELCOME TO GRAND BLUE The story begins with Iori Kitahara, a freshman who arrives at college with the same hopes and dreams every first year student has. He wants a fresh start, he wants to make friends, he wants to experience the freedom of adulthood, maybe he'll find romance, maybe he'll discover a new passion or maybe he'll finally become the cool, confident version of himself he's always wanted to be. Unfortunately for Iori, fate looked at those dreams and said, "That's adorable" because instead of finding the perfect college experience, he moves into his uncle's diving shop and immediately gets adopted by the human equivalent of a natural disasters. The moment Iori enters the Peek a Boo Diving Club, his life takes a sharp turn from "coming of age story" to "survival documentary." These aren't experienced upperclassmen guiding a young freshman towards adulthood. These are walking warnings disguised as people. They are the kind of friends your parents would specifically tell you not to hang out with, except somehow they're also the best friends you could ask for. The funniest thing about Iori's situation is that he isn't even dragged into chaos because he's unlucky. He's dragged into chaos because he keeps making the fatal mistake of believing these people are normal and that is his first mistake. The second mistake is trusting them. The third mistake is thinking there won't be a fourth mistake. By the end of the first few episodes, Iori isn't trying to achieve his dreams anymore. He's just trying to survive the week without losing his dignity, his sanity, or his clothes. - THE COMEDY The reason Grand Blue is so damn funny isn't because crazy things happen. Plenty of comedy anime throw their characters into ridiculous situations. What makes Grand Blue different is that every single character is the exact kind of idiot needed to make a bad situation infinitely worse. It's like watching a room full of people who all have the worst possible solution to the same problem and somehow they all agree it's the right one. Take Iori for example. This poor guy spends the entire series trying to convince himself he's the only normal person in the room. Every episode starts with him thinking, "Okay, today I'm gonna act like a functioning human being." Five minutes later, he's shirtless, getting blackmailed, lying through his teeth, or chugging "water" At first you feel bad for him because he's clearly surrounded by lunatics... then you realize he's actually just as bad as they are or not worse. The only difference is that Iori needs about thirty seconds of hesitation before making the exact same terrible decision everyone else already made. Then there's Kohei, who treats every conversation like it's an anime convention panel. The seniors somehow have the confidence to give life advice despite being the reason life gets ruined in the first place. And Chisa? She's basically the audience. Every time she looks at these idiots like they're complete morons, she's saying exactly what you're thinking... until she somehow gets dragged into the insanity too. Then you've got the running gags, and this is something Grand Blue does ridiculously well. A lot of comedies repeat the same joke until it stops being funny. Grand Blue somehow does the opposite. Every time a joke comes back, it gets even better because there's more history behind it. The second someone offers "water," you already know someone's dignity is about to disappear. "Chisa, nice body" is honestly a dumb line if you just explain it to someone, but after everything that's happened before, hearing it again is like watching the first domino fall. You already know the disaster is coming. You're just excited to see how much worse it's gonna get this time. The timing is also just perfect. Grand Blue knows exactly when to let a joke sit before completely blowing it up. It'll trick you into thinking things are finally calming down, then one stupid comment sends the whole scene back into chaos. Sometimes the funniest part isn't even the joke itself. It's that one second where everyone just stares at each other because they all realize how unbelievably stupid the situation has become. Then the screaming starts, someone loses their mind, somebody else loses their clothes, and the facial expressions somehow make everything ten times funnier. Yeah, after a while you start recognizing the formula, you know somebody's about to get tricked into drinking, you know someone's clothes probably aren't making it through the episode, you know the normal solution is somehow going to become the worst possible option but honestly, that's part of the fun. You're not laughing because you don't know what's coming. You're laughing because you do. You know exactly how these idiots think, and watching them confidently make the worst decision every single time just never gets old. I can't give it the justice it deserves, the comedy doesn't simply escalate. It mutates. - GENUINE FRIENDSHIP This is the part that makes me angry. Because Grand Blue has absolutely no right to be this wholesome. Somewhere between all the screaming, public humiliation, naked idiots, and enough alcohol to terrify medical professionals, the story quietly builds one of the most genuine friend groups in anime/manga. These idiots actually care about each other. The diving scenes become genuinely beautiful. The quieter moments hit surprisingly hard because you've spent hundreds of chapters watching these people destroy each other's lives in increasingly creative ways. - FINAL THOUGHTS I don't recommend Grand Blue because it's a good comedy. I recommend it because I genuinely think it's one of the funniest pieces of fiction ever made. This series doesn't politely ask for a laugh it grabs your lungs, steals your oxygen, and refuses to give it back. It weaponizes perfect timing, absurd escalation, cursed facial expressions, and a cast of lovable idiots who consistently make the worst possible decision with complete confidence. Came for the diving, stayed because you've somehow become invested in a group of college students who treat every minor inconvenience like the final battle of an action anime, solve absolutely nothing, remove their clothes, and somehow create comedy so ridiculously effective that you'll find yourself laughing at a single facial expression for five straight minutes. I have seen horror anime and I have seen psychological anime but nothing has mentally destroyed me quite like watching Iori and the boys discover yet another spectacularly stupid way to ruin everyone's day and honestly. I'd dive back into that chaos in a heartbeat.

Grand Blue is easily one of the funniest anime I’ve watched in a long time. From the very first episodes, the series throws you into complete chaos, and I genuinely found myself laughing out loud while watching it. The comedy is loud, absurd, and sometimes completely ridiculous, but that’s exactly what makes it work so well. The characters carry the show. Iori and the rest of the diving club are absolute disasters in the best possible way. Their expressions, reactions, and over-the-top situations make almost every scene entertaining. The timing of the jokes is also surprisingly good; even simple moments turn into memorable comedy because of how seriously the characters treat their nonsense. Another thing I appreciated is that the anime isn’t just about drinking and partying. Beneath all the chaos, it also shows friendship, college life, and the strange bonds people form in those environments. The diving aspect occasionally brings a calmer atmosphere that contrasts nicely with the madness of the comedy. I laughed a lot watching this anime and had a great time with it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a light, ridiculous comedy series. Just maybe don’t take the drinking habits in the show as life advice… your kidneys might not forgive you.

This is a stupid show. The good kind of stupid. What do I mean by that? WELL GUYS... ARE A BUNCH OF DRUNK NAKED DIVERS GIVE OFF ANYTHING BUT STUPID VIBES???? Seriously though, this is an awesome show for a couple of reasons... 1. The comedy is very funny, maybe i just like drunk naked men. 2. Awesome characters. Big guys, weeb, dumbahh and the girls (idk how to categorize the girls other than chisa) all make for a very funny group of characters doing dumb shit. 3. Very pretty art, especially in the serious moments (not a whole lot of them) I wouldn't really recommenced this show if you're here for the diving, they only do that stuff sometimes. But its still super good, bye gng.

This is a wonderful and intellectual show about diving, brotherhood, and male bonding. Yup. Just college guys being dudes and diving. Just trust me. Highly recommended if one isn't a humorless puritan or a child. *DETAILS* ART: Beautiful art and backgrounds. CHARACTERS: Hilarious characters all with deep motivations. Kotobuki and Tokita are hot! No one-dimensional moeblobs here. And, believe it or not, the women are all strong female characters with complex motivations and can stick up for themselves. STORY: The story is a typical episodic slice-of-life but has continuity. Easy to, dare I say, *dive into*? Iori just started college away from home on the Izu Peninsula and moves in with his two female cousins at his uncle's Dive Shop called Grand Blue. The college's dive club meets there. Iori meets the dive club. Shenanigans occur. Also, this is NOT a harem anime! So if you're looking for a mindless anime where MC goes to a new school, joins a niche club, and the moe cliche clubmembers are all tsundere for him, this ain't it. MAIN CHARACTER: The main character is a byronic hero struggling to fit in at college. Very relatable. 10/10, will make you hungry for the next season (there is a second season)! Kampai!
