The series is enjoyable if you just want mindless time pass but lack of consistency makes me give this rating. What i despise is plot holes, internal inconsistency and bad characterization. Plot: 3 Good start. Everything falls apart when the author makes them actually fight in real life. Nobody apparently knows or cares about the disappeared people. First episode 2 high school guy disappear. Probably thousands more in the entire nation. Fast forward 2 months, nothing happens. A character inside the game mentions that the game was supposed to be fair power wise. But someone have power that allows you to materialize anything you need (deus ex machina), others have powers that lets him see people, when there is already a function in the app that allows it to. lol Characters: 7 The characters, excluding the generic MC and the generic crazy MC female, are somehow interesting. But they don't match their age. It is not that they are revolutionary but that the cast is pretty mature.

darwins game for me is fun mix between high rise invasion and alice in borderland. in my opinion it's also good for beginners that are still looking for their preferred tastes. it's got mystery, thriller, some humor and pretty good animations too. the story was quite good and so was the viewing experience. the main character is quite generic, especially in the beginning of the story but he isn't unbearable, he's mostly a blank slate though that coin has two sides. since he is quite the blank slate it makes it easier to understand him in the complex world he's in and it could open an opportunity for the anime's second season if it does get a second season to focus more on him and his personality/goals. at the same time when characters are generic it makes it quite easy to predict what actions they're going to take as the story progresses. nonetheless the story is quite good and if you enjoyed either high rise invasion or alice in borderland you should definitely watch darwins game

As for the anime, after I watched it twice, the sound art and characters are good, if the story is ok, I hope there will be a next season. Looks like this anime is just to accompany my boredom or am I just not in the mood. Well this is all I can say for this anime in my opinion there is nothing special. I don't think there's anything lacking in this anime, well, it's average, you can say it's normal, but it's a bit above the norm maybe around 55%-58%/100%. I'll say again, this is just my opinion or I'm not in the mood. Honestly I don't know what else to say about this anime anymore. I'm not good at explaining so I don't know the right words, so sorry if there are words that aren't quite right with what I'm trying to convey

Genius!!! Its a perfect anime in my book. And if u disagree, well u probably started watching anime yesterday. I don't know where to start. From the story to the character development, this anime combines the elements of survival and suspense perfectly. An anime like this is hard to come across these days; for me it's the excitement that each episode brings, the thrill that you can't find in most anime. Every episode is an adventure and a fight for survival. The MC fits into his role perfectly, he knows when to pick a fight and how to win the battle. At first the anime may seem confusing but it starts to grow on you as the episodes go by I would recommend this anime to anyone who watches anime. It's simply that good!! Enjoy!!😃

I mean it's an okay-ish anime, if you like battle royale then you probably gonna like this. The animation is just meh nothing interesting kinda budget-ish it was ok for this anime but nothing fancy. Sound alright the OP is pretty good. Characters are ok not they are just ok like this anime it's just ok everything is average nothing particularly interesting. Overall if you like Fortnite then watch this lmao. Roses are red violets are blue I am might not be staying Boy 10 in Rehab for Fortnite addiction after becoming so hooked he wet himself to keep playing.

what? darwin's game: the peak of mediocrity, and the definition of a general waste of time. this anime is just so underwritten and unoriginal that it is hardly even entertaining, not bizarre or unique in any sense. which is actually quite a shame, considering the concept itself is actually pretty interesting and funny. sure, i wasn't going into this expecting anything huge. to be honest, i started dg on a complete whim upon opening netflix, having never even heard of seen it before. something dumb, sure, even something comedically bad; but dg just tries so hard to be a type of cool it can't pull off. trust me when i say, i am VERY EASY TO PLEASE. like, even if a show's writing is dogshit, if it's fun to watch, i'll enjoy it. no game no life, danganronpa the animation, umaru chan, all moral trash, but still very entertaining. in fact, darwin's game is the ONLY show that i've sat through the entirety of and didn't care. it's not cringe or anything, i didn't dread watching it, it's just, so lame. for starters, its world building is tremendously poor- game mechanics are never explained clearly or elaborated. problems are often solved with fancy big words and trump cards that nobody really cares about, but lets it slide because, "even if i don't understand it, it must be cool if they're playing epic music with cool lighting". and it just leaves such a bland taste in the mouth, because its poor writing just causes you to have, like, no reaction. it doesn't make you happy, it doesn't make you sad (which is saying a lot, it's genuinely rare i don't cry), the most it can get out of the watcher is surprise from gore that lasts a few seconds. there's a lack of comedy (or at least, some with taste), and no fun plot twists. it's just predictable. but the most outlandish thing about this anime is its characters. gosh, i have so much to say about this section, first and foremost, i'd like to award dg a plastic medal for not dumbing down its female characters. they're there, they're useful, they have as much depth as the men (that's not saying a lot ig), good for them good for them. anyways, they're still written terribly. as is every character. well, i guess i shouldn't say written poorly as much as it is just, not written at all? starting off with the main character, kaname. he's somewhat of a gary sue- well, he does have his major flaws but nobody seems to acknowledge them and he basically gets everything he wants? he's introduced as a normal guy roped into a super scary game, and develops into a normal guy inside of a super scary game. throughout the entire show, they make him out to be progressively super powerful and special. like, oh wow, he's someone special big shots are interested in and need to look out for. but really, he's not? he doesn't get anymore powerful besides literally basic training, which is even mentioned but not condemned? and why does he keep winning? his power... is kinda boring despite the anime making it out to be super rare and cool. like, good for him he can make a handgun and small grenade out of thin air. which wouldn't be an issue if they talked about how he could achieve and push limits using a somewhat decent sigil. but he's literally carried by it, and that never changes. not to mention there are TONS of characters with better powers then him, thinking about it, MOST CHARACTERS HAVE COOLER POWERS THAN HIM. hell, the normal dude in the last episode who got a sigil and then died last second for kaname's character development had a cooler sigil. sheesh, he's just such so badly written, because he somehow goes from scaredy cat to cocky bastard to literal psychopath while still being so boring to watch. and the reason behind that is his motivations suck ass. "omg the game killed my friend who doesn't have a personality, i'm so mad i'm going to end this twisted game." they're cliched and just seem so forced. but what sucks most of all about kaname sudou is that, hot take, he's a shitty person! like, moral wise, he sucks! he spends the entire anime classically against the act of killing (despite all of his close friends being murderers without good justification)- normal anime troupe, can be done well. but then, he, SPOILER WARNING FOR THE REST OF THE PARAGRAPH, just ends up killing literally everyone? he doesn't go into a blind rage of justice, he literally goes dead silent and shoots characters that we don't even know, mercilessly. this isn't revenge, this is a petty excuse for mass murder. and the ending just totally rubs me the wrong way, holy fuck, they just start murdering random and rather innocent people and NO ONE mentions it? the most logical response we ever get is the blue haired girl whimpering "we shouldn't do this, killing is bad!" and then we just continue and nothing changes. which, hear me out, the fact that he's a bad person isn't my main issue. it's the way that he faces NO CONSEQUENCES. ZERO. why doesn't he face any consequences?? he's constantly rewarded and supported for torturing and shooting several groups of people, and we're supposed to be on HIS side? they ended the show as if they were doing great deeds, like killing anyone who tries to kill is the best way that will solve everything. if i took these scenes out of context, people would literally assume he's the antagonist. onto the side characters because i'm going to get a headache thinking about kaname much longer. they're all based on really stale personality troupes: shuka is an effeminate maniac, rein is a seemingly emotionless nerd, sui is a coward with a crazy side (or a mockery of DID rep), and ryuji- who is ryuji again? it's so sad because i have seen shows with rather basic character personalities that are still amazing, good example being the promised neverland. the worst part is the way they follow kaname like dogs. he didn't do anything other than have basic survival skills, so why is he treated like a god? they could all literally wipe the floor with him if they just tried, but instead, they give up midbattle for the sake of not having to write kaname as an actually decent character. like, shuka. a really fun, powerful woman known as "the undefeated queen", who has an interesting backstory and some decent potential. remind me again why she is reduced to kaname's swooning love interest? they don't even have a fun dynamic or any chemistry, which if they did, i'd actually really enjoy. she just goes from an enemy to an ally that seems willing to give everything for kaname, just because he, what, pinned her to the ground despite her sigil easily having the ability to get through it? the side characters all act like they're on such high moral ground, when they've murdered tons, fighting against killing by... supporting kaname's plan to "kill anyone who gets in his way"? pardon? the best part about this anime by far is it's art and sound design. it's sound design other than that one scene in episode one when kaname collapses onto his knees and makes a sound that sounds like a wooden door was just shattered, is good. the op and ed sequences are catchy. the art is beautiful, there's great animation and pretty lighting throughout the entire show. i'm just a bit sad that such a budget was put into such... normal character designs. sui, rein and shuka are pretty designs, sure, but i feel like you can find a thousand copies of them. and about a trillion can be said for kaname's ass design. if i drew kaname and posted it with no context other than, "guess who", i doubt anyone would guess him anytime soon. the rest... tbh i kind of forgot them already (i'm writing this review minutes after i've finished). even side characters or antagonists' designs feel undefined, equivalent to the effort of bg characters. that all being said, it's not an eyesore. it is a very pretty anime with nice composition and music. closing up, darwin's game feels like if akame ga kill and sword art online had a really ugly child. ok bye

Darwin's Game has two major problems in the anime form. First of all does the intro spoiler some character details and twists from the very start, automatically reducing the potential enjoyment of those twists. Secondly, the major antagonist for season 1 is extremely bland. In fact, the blandness issue is fairly prominent in this anime. The lead character, Kaname, is dragged into this murder/killing game by one of his dying friends and then has to deal with the consequences of that friends decision. His whole mindset was to quit the game because he don't want to kill other people. In the established context of this game where killing is winning it creates a simultaneous bland and different take on Batman. This becomes especially prominent when the game masters decided to hold a puzzle battle royale style event. This event is the major arc of this season and even the final episodes deal with the aftermath of that event. At first, the focus of the arc becomes apparently clear for the viewer when Kaname declares that he don't want to kill anybody and still win the event. It is this event the intro spoilers as it becomes quickly clear that not all new allies will survive the long term. And while it is contexted as a heroic last stand, the character in question dispatched many other gamers without any remorse. And this is a running feature in this anime. As long as the humans are at least 50 meters from Kaname, they are violent killers without any regards for human life. But as soon as they enter his vicinity, they become cooperative allies with their own usefulness. However the antagonist of this season, Wang, seems to be immune to this. Wang is a gang-leader. I would like to write more, but that pretty much is it. Everything about this character is derived from this statement. He is violent, a sadist, likes to get money, likes to be in a superior position and becomes a coward when cornered. There is really no interesting take and his sole purpose is to drive Kaname over the edge. After completing this objective he was killed off and potentially will never be seen again in the series. The characters, and subsequently the story, are by far the biggest let-down of this anime. It partially has some nuances to difficult psychological topics, but they mostly are thrown under the bus right after picking them from the bouquet this anime holds. Some of the fights are well animated and choreographed but still fall flat in the context and the predictiveness of the characters.

Let's be honest here many of us like this series some of us hate this series. But we can all agree that the story is all over the place. The game itself is unbalanced to the point of hilarity with some characters getting OP abilities while others get abilities that we either don't see or are so appallingly underwhelming no one bothers to talk about them. Our MC struggles occasionally with fights just to win by virtue of the enemy doing nothing or having a complete brain fart. all in all the story is slightly more "holey" than your average swiss-cheese. So why is my overall a 7? read on and you will find out The character art is decent and the backgrounds are usually varied enough to not get boring. The characters are a mixed bag, our MC is not much of anything really, he goes from being nice to being edgy to being useless to being badass for no apparent reason, apart from the training he does at the end of the show and our main villain for most of the show is pathetic. Our other main characters are what makes the characters good overall. We have Shuka, who wouldn't like Shuka? clearly the waifu of the series and she is just quirky enough to not be grating. We have Rein the young intellectual who is a favorite of mine and lastly on the female side we have Sui who could be good if they had put her into 2 bodies instead of 1. Souta, they should have just been twins I would have liked both of them. Since our MC is a nothing character we are left with Maesaka and Hiiragi who are both fairly solid characters for the episodes they are in. The OST is good, some of the fight scenes are really enhanced by the soundtrack and overall it usually tries to set the mood since the story is so lackluster. Can't remember either the opening or the ending. For overall i will start by giving the anime a 4, it gets a +1 for Shuka a +1 for Rein and a +1 for the badass main theme for a grand total of 7

If you didn't want to die you shouldn't be born at all. here is a modern age survival genre here you get no say in the matter and force to kill and got nothing better thing to do but kill time. like the idea of having a mobile gacha game type deal however they don't dive into very much other than what they show you and the capability that it has. i kind of expected to be like kings game or the ones within anime but it actually better and good then those other two anime that i just mention. the biggest downfall of this show thou would be the story. Story: it gonna be a bloody good time! it gonna be a bloody good time! well here the thing is has gore and blood but on a smaller scale which kind of disappointing for anime that rely on death and gore. but the Gacha thing is actually pretty cool i'll admit that and that fact they it can be a deciding factor in battle for sure. where the story thou? is it to defeat the 8th clan or the game master or to survive or to not to kill I think the anime Darwin game doesn't know what or where it want to go. At the very least ability is pretty cool and actually has a purpose behind them whether it be history or a gimmick. Character: i do like the variety of character they give and how the fit in the into the anime each one has a unique personalities and gives a reason why they should die or live and yet it mainly survival and greed and empathies on Greed is the main reason why anyone would play i mean it million of yen and funny thing is people would or could kill for less and that just how the world works. we live and we die nothing more to it. Art: nothing fancy here other than the flow of the battle and character attention to detail and you can find pleasing in away but hey going to a safe route is always the best bet. Sound: the op is good not the best but do enjoy for the most part however i really like the ED it gives it edge where it needed to be and as for the combat scene music is great nothing wrong there however it doesn't give enough hype for battle thou it 'll do for sure. Overall: if there was a second season i would watch myself i like to see where they go with this and plus i feel like the plot would be finally be laid out for us in term of what direction there aim for rather than a hear say kind of thing. if your a fan of gacha game give this a try you might like it but if your a fan of survival type anime this won't keep you at the edge of your seat nor quench your thirst for it however it is a good pass time anime and at the very least it will get you thinking a little. thank you for taking the time to read this and remember have bloody good time :)

First of all let me frankly state that the story is pretty much almost the standard 'Overpowered hero' plot. The animation is pretty unique and good looking. The intro song is not bad neither is it unforgettable. To be perfectly honest, the characters does not seem to be well made...most of the characters does not seem to have a personality which makes them more rememberable, If overpowered action is the genre of enjoyment for you, then this anime would be a good match. For others, I would probably suggest checking other anime. This anime could let you kill some time but don't expect too much from it In the end all anime depends on preferences, and for me this anime is not bad but its nothing memorable

I quite enjoyed this show. It was a quick 12 episodes exploring a fun concept. The idea of an app that forces you to kill others in a game is a great way to get someone to start watching. I just wished they did more. This show is just kind of average for most of the time, but it picks up at the end. It's only twelve episodes so just go for it, you'll find some enjoyment in it. You have nothing to lose. The system of sigils is quite intriguing and some of the characters are very interesting, like Wang.

In all honesty this is not a "baad" anime. I didn't actually have to force myself to finish it. The best way to describe it would be... It's bland. Disclaimer: I have not read the manga, this is also the first (and most likely only) "game" anime that I'm watching. It has all the classic "nice guy in a bad situation" steps down pat (e.g. Tokyo ghoul season 1, if you've seen that one, this has most of the same basics almost to a t). It also has enough action to keep you curious about what happens next. But... The characterization is just not there. All the characters (including the main one) are so surface, the little backstory that we get seems perfunctory. It's really difficult to get invested. Maybe my disappointment steams from watching it right after re-watching Psycho-pass and that show is really difficult to compete with in terms of characterization. But at the end of the day, in my opinion, going into Darwin's game with low expectations might actually improve your experience. It' full of action and tropes and does a pretty good job if all you need is a mindless entertainment.

Unpopular opinion here. This anime is "trashy." It's true, compared to other great anime, it is trashy. But to me, and some of us, trashy can be good. If you like fantasy action, where the main hero sucks but yet he is powerful, and get all the girls kind of clique. Then this is for you. Anyways, this is a show that was based on a manga that was very directly inspired by Mirai Nikki, and it's kinda' evident at points, but it does enough of its own thing to be quite interesting. Despite the obvious inspiration, this show goes down a very different pathway and explores some very different things. The way to know if you might like this series would be to ask yourself, "Do I want to see a death game anime with "regular" people who are thrown in that are given one random power when tossed in and now must survive and kill others with some impressive world-building and characters?" There have been a few animes with this sorta' set-up, but not too many in recent years, and so far, this has been one of the better-executed ones. The characters are interesting, the rules of the game are more explained than usual, and there are exciting scenarios the characters find themselves in. The music, opening, and endings are also outstanding. Ultimately, if you want a show about people struggling to either survive or hunt each other to kill, with some exciting characters and set-ups to put these characters to battle for survival and explore a power they're each given to fight to the death, or form alliances or back-stab each other or what have you, this is a pretty entertaining watch.

4 - You watched this because you had hope, but ultimately left in disappointment. Maybe the story had promise or the characters were likable, but something kept you along to watch it. I really do feel a bit disrespected about this anime. It's just flat out dumb. So why is it dumb? I can't just say dumb without explaining it. So instead, I'll explain what isn't dumb about it. The concept is not dumb. It's another anime in which a regular person gets stuck inside a game where it is do or die. Evil players like killing others. Main character doesn't like that. Been there, done that. Nothing wrong with that. However, the conflict in this anime is just so overdone. The fights are just- exhausting. The main character has this power... which is pretty cool. But the way he is treated makes it seem like he has the best power of them all when in reality a bunch of the people he ended up encountering have better powers. The fights just don't make sense, and are lazy. There so much fodder. There's so much Stars Wars storm trooper bullets. How are some of these people even alive? I won't say all the battles were bad. There was ONE good battle. It's just- it's not something I really enjoyed. My suspense of disbelief was not there. The entire time I was thinking, "really?" I'm fine with unrealistic anime, but when it just becomes disrespectful to the viewer then that's when I check out. The main character doesn't even have the best power in the game! How am I supposed to believe he is able to beat all these people when I don't believe in his power. I can't even just sit back and enjoy the fights. That's the thing that hurts the anime. If I was able to sit back, and be like, "HEY, this is fun!" then this would be a 5 possibly. But I did not enjoy the fights, and I do think the fights are the biggest draw to this anime. Yet it didn't draw me in. I cant see myself recommending this to anyone to watch. I'm not sure there is anything positive to this. I watched this through because I thought the story was a little interesting, and wanted to see the conclusion. It kept me along that far, but even the conclusion was disappointing. The sad part is that this looks like it may have a sequel, and all I have to say is: Why?

The first 10 episodes of Darwins game ranged from okay to bad for me mostly because of the main character and his refusal to kill anyone in this battle royal type of game. I have always hated the main characters in anime who did this and the anime always rewarded them for that mentality when in reality they would have just been killed. If the show stopped at episode 10 I would have rated this anime a 4 or 5 because of that reason but they turn it around in the last episode and make this anime a lot better for it. What is annoying now is that they had to turn it around in the last episode if an anime we might never get another season for. If this anime never gets another season then I would recomend to not watch it and instead skim read the manga until you get past the crap at the beginning to then enjoy the story when the main character actually becomes bearable.

A better than average urban fantasy hunger games. However, the main character is very similiar to Shirou Emiya from fate, they even have the same abilities. Never the less, the plot is somewhat interesting and the characters likable. One of the better animes of this season; some of the plot points are unexpected and interesting. Nevertheless, the characters are a bit generic. Oh and the way the female characters the MC just met wants to make a baby with him is....kinda... wierd. The way the anime ended suggests that there will be a second season, and I am sure I will watch it when it comes out.

THIS IS A SPOILER FREE REVIEW!!! A long time has passed since shonen writers lost passion for their work. Each shonen story is a ripoff previous because the creators know that their work will be popular if they use a bunch of cliches and tropes that most shonen used before them and got popular that way. This doesn't have to mean that all generic shonen are bad. They are certainly not masterpieces, but skilled writers can make a decent story out of a generic shonen(Hunter x Hunter for example). Darwin's game was not written by a skilled author. STORY The story is about yet another death game! How original! The main character downloads an app that traps him in Darwin's game, a death game that pits everyone against each other(commonly known as a battle royale). Players get D-points by killing other players. They can exchange D-points for real-life money, which is an interesting concept. The main problems of this anime are obvious right in the first episode. Everyone in Darwin's game gets an ability called sigil, some type of superpower they should be able to use naturally and instinctively. The protagonist doesn't know how to use it, but somehow has potential to win against the highest-rank players when he just started playing. Of course, this is a common shonen trope that is often unexplained and is just an excuse for plot armor. Speaking of plot armor, whenever someone is trying to shoot the main characters all bullets miraculously miss them. The romantic subplot between Kaname and Shuka(one of the main characters) was quite poorly crafted because such romantic subplots have been seen a lot of times in anime. Shuka falls in love with Kaname because he has a lot of potential to win the D-game. She, of course, doesn't even notice other guys and cares only about Kaname, constantly talking about him and daydreaming, except when she's fighting. What saves this anime from being total garbage are creative and suspenseful battles. There is a lot of strategy and characters know how to use their sigils. My favourite sigil was Laplace(based on the Laplace's determinism, having data about a system in one moment means having data about the same system in any other moment.). It can predict the movement of objects around the user of the sigil. One complain is that the fights last a bit too long. I wish there was more character development instead of just players battling. ART Darwin's game looks good, but don't most of today's anime look good also? It's pointless to talk about good art and animation when most of today's anime also look good. Sometimes, studios spend a lot of money on animation in order for the audience not to notice the poor writing(Fate/Stay Night UBW being an obvious example). SOUND Music is what enchanced my enjoyment of Darwin's game. It's quite unique and adds to the suspense during fight scenes. Nothing more to say, really, you can listen to the OST yourself. CHARACTERS As I have stated multiple times, the show is playing safe. Characters are well-known anime tropes. This doesn't have to be a bad thing if the characters are fleshed-out. But, they're not. They are cardboard cutouts. They don't develop, nor do they have any depth. The creator is trying to hide that by making the characters mysterious. It's a cheap trick and as I can see from other reviews, the audience didn't fall for it. OVERALL Darwin's game is creative, which makes it kind off whatchable, but is filled with shonen cliches and one-dimensional characters. If you like battle royales you could give this a try, but I suggest skipping it, there are many shows similar to this one, I don't think that yet another one is worth your time.

Darwin's Game has enough going for it to be entertaining, but I still found it aggressively mid. The premise is generic and there are some cool action scenes, but Shuka and Rein were the only characters I really cared about. Kaname was easily my biggest issue, mainly because his pacifist attitude feels completely out of place in a kill-or-be-killed battle royale, making it hard to take him seriously when he tries to intimidate his enemies. He constantly gets outmatched and survives through luck or plot armour, which makes his victories feel unsatisfying. Shuka and Rein, on the other hand, are much more enjoyable because they're competent, decisive, and proactive. There are some fun moments, but I still left feeling more frustrated than satisfied.

Very good opening and ending. The buildup to the ending is also very good. Fine osts too. The animation was good overall, given that this is an action anime. Although the drawing is average in some scenes. Fine-to-weak characters, as their motives and backstories aren't well presented (e.g., Wang, Rin...). The story isn't the most unique, but it's fine for the most part. I can definitely see it getting better with that whole Master Game plot if there is a new season. The MC's transformation in the last episode is a bit sudden and less believable. I think it's and enjoyable anime if you like action and mystery.
