Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop

Words bubble up like Soda Pop is a Netflix anime movie that is more like a casual romance watch. The anime has a pleasant vibe to it with attractive animation, art style, and characters. The anime is about an introverted high school boy named Cherry who loves writing Haikus (small Japanese poems) and is working a job as a temporary substitute for his mother who has back pains. The story starts with Cherry meeting an idol streamer 'SMILE' who dislikes her buck teeth and later joins Cherry's job after getting requested by his co-workers. The story goes on as they make progress with each other. The plot is well-driven. I didn't feel any signs of emptiness from it. 7/10 The animation and art style can make anyone's day good, It is that pleasing! 8/10 The music and Soundtrack were just okay. It had one prominent song at the end which was good. 6/10 The characters were attractive. Both the boy and the girl had an interesting vibe to them. The girl was super cute, and I appreciate cuteness in general, 9/10 So Overall, I'd say go give it a watch. It's a casual romance movie with a refreshing touch to it. Overall, 7/10 for me

Fascinating and beautiful! At first, I was mixed towards this movie, despite the beautiful colours and the fluid animation, the characters seemed cliché, between the shy boy and the cute Mary-sue, but in the end this anime nicely surprised me. The film tells a beautiful romance (realistic even if at times far-fetched) setting up an extrovert-introvert relationship, both side having complexes and passions, well set up in the story, mixing poetry, self-conscious and self confidence. I really appreciate the colourful graphic style which makes it really warm and bright, also I found the charadisgn are good. I know some people don't find this movie perfect, but it's VERY pleasant to watch and makes a very good anime starter for begginer, it's not the perfect anime but it deserves in my opinion the mark of 10 because it's a masterpiece.

Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop is a somewhat by-the-numbers romantic summer film, it does do some unique and interesting things, but overall it doesn't take many risks and the story is one we have all seen before. I'll start off with the positives, Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop has a unique art style and color pallet that made it stand out. The usage of Haiku was done in an interesting way, and the film did a nice job of explaining the thought process of how one is composed. It also did a clever job with how it utilized cell phones as mediums to view the story, although it unintentionally felt at times as a criticism to how addicted people are to these devices at times. By far the biggest positive I can give this film is the soundtrack, Kensuke Ushio's score did a really good job in setting the tones for the various scenes. My reason for enjoying this aspect of the film was a little selfish though, as it reminded me of Ushio's other works especially in A Silent Voice, which is one of my all-time favorites. The plot is pretty average, shy boy meets outgoing girl, everything you'd expect to happen ensues. There were a couple nice ideas, but there were also a good amount of forced coincidences, I'm not going to say how the issue of old man's wife lost record gets resolved but I will say it is pretty ridiculous and dumb. One of my biggest complaints of the film was that the characters seemed to just be going along with the plot rather than driving it forward. There is a particular character at the beginning of the film to threatens to beat another character up for vandalizing his property, yet the next time we see them together much later they are working together as if nothing ever happened. This happens throughout, with the characters seemingly just going through the motions of what was expected to happen, and to me at least it did not feel as if the two protagonists did much to earn the dramatic ending. Overall Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop is ironically a lot like soda, it's sweet, relaxing and fun to enjoy with a couple friends but overall not nutritious and there is a lot of better stuff for you out there anyways. I personally enjoyed the film for what it was, but I can't say I'll be coming back to it

This anime is the definition of mid. Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop is the most barebones a romantic anime can be. While it features some amazing music lackluster voice acting, horrible animation, and a miserable plot line plagues the movie... and yet I still found myself enjoying it. While it's the most generic love story I've ever seen and appears to be rushed to market, the story holds you in just enough to get you to watch the movie. After seeing the ending I decided I neither loved nor hated the movie, it's just mid. I am wondering where Netflix outsourced the animation to. This animation looks like what happens when you put an anime filter on top of a mass-produced 3D animation... meaning it's watered down, lacks details, and looks bland.

I watched it once and I don't think I will watch this again anytime soon but "Words Bubble up Like Soda Pop" left a lasting impression on me. The soundtrack is great and it goes well with the cartoonish art style. I personally find a certain charm to the slightly jumpy animation. Though the story is certainly nothing new, it is presented in a satisfying way. Most movie endings feel lacking but in this case it suits the uplifting mood. Overall the movie left a pleasant taste and I recommend watching it to anyone for a Guarantee brightest 87 minutes of your day.

Im a simple man, I enjoyed the movie, then I rate it 10 the soundtracks goes well with the animation and art , it built up a relaxing atmosphere, even though it has vibrant colors and aggressive combination of palette, it was never tiring to the eyes and relaxes your soul and warms your heart. The characters could have been expounded more but that is my personal opinion for it, but they are great as they are already, just necessary details of them are included in the film the story is simple and great, touching, and heartwarming for me 10/10 I hope to see more movies like this in the future

I wasn't expecting anything from this movie. Just a simple story to watch while fighing mosquitos and trying not to melt. But as minutes passed away i started feeling something positive. I don't know why. The plot is really simple still enjoyable and original, unpretentious and pleasant to watch throug. I immediately bonded with the characters and even if we can only see them in a little window of their time, their growth is tangible. the drawings and animations are a little weird and unrealistic, and i loved it. The soundtrack doesn't shine much, still there are two songs pretty enjoyable, but the rest is just sounds with no capacity of creating emotions. Overall i'll say that i really liked this movie. in its simplicity and unpretentious traits and, especially, in its really interesting way to tell a love story, with no cliches but just some sincere and pure realism. p.s. as a haiku writer and enjoyer, i couldnt' not appreciate the gigantic work behind the construction of plenty of poetries

This review will be divided into 2 parts in both Spanish and English (Spanish which will be translated into google so that those who do not understand the language can read it in English) // Esta review se dividirá en 2 partes tanto en Español como en Ingles (Español la cual será llevado a traducción en google para que los que no entienden el idioma puedan leerlo en Ingles). No Contain Spoilers // No contiene Spoilers. Below is the review in English! English version: Well to begin with, its story at the beginning is a bit confusing (for me it was like that), but as it progresses you understand, it is not very innovative but it is acceptable. Score: 8 Art / animation: Honestly, it is very unusual for me to see this type of animation and art seen, it blew my mind and I sincerely loved the fact that it is different from the others. Score: 10 Sound, what can I say? It has a good soundtrack, and it's not bad. Like the voice actors they did and they fit the characters perfectly. Without more a good sound. Score: 9 Characters: I loved head to toe Smile, I would definitely say it deserves a good rating as the main characters outdo themselves and the echo is noticeable at the end of the movie. Score: 10 A rather unusual film I would say, I have not seen so many but the fact of seeing this type of animation for the first time combined its history, art, sound etc ... It makes me feel good and the truth is that I really enjoy the fact that they have been based the film on the concept of "self-esteem", not leaving aside the event that occurred on the album ... Anyway, very good recommended.

A familiar type of story yet surprisingly refreshing. Story The plot itself is nothing outstanding but that's really not what it's about. Still, if you're familiar with this type of story it feels a bit slow towards the end. Characters The characters, while simple at first glance, felt genuine and relatable. I found myself anticipating the same old anime tropes you always get, even with good films, but they barely ever happened here which was a pleasant surprise each time. Some of the supporting characters are pure trope on the hand which is what it is. Visuals What impressed me most was the visual delivery. Smart shot composition, hilarious visual comedy, beautiful art direction and character designs/animation perfectly fine tuned for each shot from overy expressive to smooth and stylized. Overview The film is very self aware and doesn't try to be a dramatic masterpiece. Just a wholesome slice of life film with a positive message. If you like light hearted stories and or appreciate cinematography/animation then you better give this a watch.

So what do we got here? Another netflix original anime movie, is it bad? To that i say no, from all the netflix original movies that i've seen this one hit the hardest. For example let's bring whisker away to the table, while i've rated this movie the same score as "Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop" Whisker away lacks the word "realism" it presents us a story with supernatural plot and it just doesn't feel right. However this is not a review for Whisker away so i'll get to the topic at hand, you see Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop gives us a more realistic plot. The first protagonist Cherry and most focused character in the film in my opinion is dealing with stuff that any teenage boy would at his age. He's shy and he wants to express himself, how he does that? Well that's very simple yet unique and that's what i like about him. He express himself over haiku. Every day he uploads a haiku on the app called "curiousity" to share his work and express his feeling. However that doesn't attract many people so he doesn't get any likes at all except from his mom. The second protagonist Smile is a teenage girl and influencer at the same app that Cherry uploads his Haiku "curiosity". Unlike Cherry she's more open to herself with a much more expressive character. However she has a little secret, under that mask she's always wearing hiding her teath there are some braces covering them. Smile doesn't find them attractive or cute so she wants to hide them with her mask. Until one fateful day where our two protagonists eventualy came in contact at the mall comes. From then they both understand each other bring together each ones traits to another and eventualy they become friends, yet there still is a little secret Cherry is hiding from Smile and that is that he's soon moving out. I don't want to say anything more for spoils but make sure to watch it. It's worth your time because except that some of the things that happen towards the end are a bit predictable the art, the music, and the animation are astonishing are worth checking out.

This is my first review, so I’ll try to make this short. Story: 7/10 a very nice concept and heartwarming throughout the movie. The story itself had a lot more flashback information, and it felt like it took a while to get the actual story moving past the character introduction. Art: 8/10 very appealing to see the color scheme, and you can tell that flyingdog really enjoyed messing around with the animation. Sometimes very choppy to show the nervousness in the characters, and other times smooth to show confidence. Sound: 6/10 it was very calming and super easy to listen to at any point of the day. The only thing, was that when there was a more dramatic scene playing or when the movie hit its peak, the music didn’t change to match the feel of the plot. Characters: 4/10 even though I recently finished this, I already forgot 90% of the characters names. The presentation of the characters played out pretty poorly, as they were mainly bland and all the side characters didn’t get enough screen time to make the main characters appealing enough. Enjoyment: 6/10 this is the kind of show you put on when you just want to pass time. It was very heartwarming and although I didn’t really enjoy it as much as I thought, I know that there are other people out there that would really enjoy the show. Overall: 7/10 this was not bad in any way I just thought that it was kind of slow and it did remind me of some studio Ghibli films with the way that it was presented. The concept of it was good but it wasn’t my type of show as much as I expected it to be, but I do think that almost anybody that watches the show will enjoy it in at least some way.

Let me begin with a haiku: OH-HOH CHERRY BOY!! In life love never fades We pass it along I love this movie, so very much. It's beautiful and vividly animated by a staff who clearly love the project. The neon pallet captures the tone of summer and the simplicity and naivete of youth. The main characters are real and lovely in their own ways; maybe a bit cliche, but relatable and endearing. I loved the supporting characters and wish we got to see a bit more of them and their lives. (Juri and Mari seemed the flattest and least developed characters, sadly.) The focus of the movie is definitely centered on the leads. There's something wonderful and poetic about celebrating bad art. Or perhaps I should say cherishing amateur art. This movie takes the theme to heart and it works! It really complements these slice-of-life stories featuring every-day people spinning their wheels in their very normal but very personal problems. It's also offers an incredibly hopeful message that anyone in their own arc can find a point to relate. Either those lost in youth and possibilities, those marching through the mid-life, or those staring down their sunsets. This movie has love for us, where we are. This movie feels like a response to Your Name. The arc is similar, but the stakes are lower. The problems in Your Name are not there, but neither is the ambition. The love is there, but the depths are not delved. I feel mixed about this; it's great to finish a manageable project, and there's also something heroic about struggling with an overly-ambitious one. This movie knows what it is, what it is not, and I will just love it for what it is. My biggest critique is the lack of connective tissue. The elements, themes, art, characters, and pacing are great, I just wish there were more to tie them all together. Rather, it feels more like a highlight reel of pieces that aren't tied together as tightly as they may be. In this vein, I wanted the secondary characters to have more screen time and bigger lives than merely supporting the main characters. The culture of the town would have a clearer identity and made its impression on more characters in many ways. Nevertheless, this is a great movie. There is only one joke, but it's used three times, and each time it was so successful I had to pause to laugh. This movie was funnier than most "comedy" anime. I highly recommend this movie if you're up for a sweet treat.

This film is a wholesome film. It's not got many deep themes, it's not got gripping drama really, and the twists are pretty easy to see. But man, I love this film regardless. It's such a wholesome film that never made me bored, and the direction and animation style is outstanding. The director from Your Lie in April delivers a modern movie that still pays tribute to the old, and I really enjoy that. The characters are all sweet, they all work well together, and I love the slight autism metaphor/actual autism that the main character seems to have. I relate to a lot of his story, and I love how the main character grows. Solid stuff.

A very wholesome movie about a very shy introverted boy and a not so why outtroverted girl with low self esteem.. He expresses himself through poems and haiku, and she is a streamer Who is a little bit more straight forward yet not so satified of how whe looks..her streamer name is smily, which is a little ironic yet iconic in this movie. They crashes into each other and switches Phone by accident, and the story begins. Its a intereting movie i actually would recommand IT. Its not too romantic yet not too dramatic, but its still lovely. Now go and watch IT before i spoil anything 🤣

Watch it for bouncy character animation, charming dialogue, and love for haiku. It really feels like a love for haiku and an animation flex. It's a simple story told to death, but I'm charmed. Be warned the love story is entirely predictable though. But the characters are so lovable and the little moments so charming Im not even watching for the plot. Story super predictable. Summer love story, with a b-side of grandpa's fear of forgetting his own summer love story. Also with a touch of teen awkwardness/ insecurities getting in the way of their passions. Slice of life, with a romance second half. Art style fits beautifully. It's a strong look with bright saturated colors and sharp lines. Thee background music is pretty sweet too. The star is the explosive character animation. It's not going for realistic at all, but it gives a lot of character and fun. Characters were simple but believable and charming. A bubbly streamer "smile" who has grown to hate the sight of beaver teeth she used to love, and a socially anxious "cherry" who finds the most expression in haiku. Honestly a bonus main going senile Mr Fujiyama who is sharper than he seems with his pointed haiku directed at cherry, also he was an artsy photographer/ musician in his youth with fluff hair which we love. Definitely one for those who like slice of life, but not for those who want to see new concepts or punched up pacing. I think it's best strength is in the integration and celebration of haiku. Most of the story is told in the animation and the haikus, while the plot and dialogue itself is relatively toned down.

Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop is a simple yet beautiful story about two teenagers trying to overcome their personal struggles. The main character, Cherry, has a communicating disorder but finds solace in writing rhyme. The female lead, Smile, struggles with self-doubt and insecurities about her appearance, leading her to hide behind a mask. The two characters bump into each other and form a friendship over a short period of time. The animation is colorful and light, with a character design that follows suit. At first, I found the movie to be a bit boring, but as the story progressed, it really drew me in. It's a heartwarming and light-hearted anime movie that I would recommend to those looking for a feel-good story. The characters are charming and the setting in a large shopping mall adds to the sense of community. The subplot of the lost vinyl record adds a nice touch to the developing relationship between Cherry and Smile. I personally enjoyed the vibrant and saturated color palette, but I can understand why some people might not be a fan. The background design, particularly the architecture and design of the mall, is outstanding. The attention to detail is impressive and the clean and precise art style adds to the overall aesthetic of the film. In terms of romance stories, it's pretty standard but still enjoyable. The last few minutes of the movie are particularly heartwarming and will leave a smile on your face. Overall, I found Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop to be a satisfying and uplifting watch, and would recommend it to those looking for a romantic quick fix.

Far across the sky, above the green rice paddies, is the dwindling sun. ~~ One of the many reasons I watch anime is to experience the culture. It is my belief that the best way to understand a country is through the art the country's people have made. Sure, you can read the history, and talk to the country's people, but it is only through the art they produce you can truly appreciate the country's people, history, and culture. That's why the art form of Haiku is so beautiful to me. At least after watching this film. The first thing the film is great at is the environment. The colours really pop out along with the backgrounds. It somehow allows the mediocre CGI to fit in very well and sets the very soft summer background. Even very familiar sights like a mall feel much more nature-like, giving a sea of emotions similar to when you're walking through a field of flowers. The music also pops out to me. Not because of the soundtrack, but because of how it plays around with quiet and loud sounds. That's because Haiku in Japanese have two important parts that don't really translate to English well. The first part is Kireji or 切れ字 which leaves a cutting effect on the Haiku allowing it to separate the two, almost independent lines, and form them into one. The second is Kigo or 季語 which is a word that is associated with a season. Think of how a mall themes itself with Christmas lights or a melody that gives a certain tone through a track of music. Going back to the music, it feels like a haiku throughout the film. It starts with setting the tone of a scene while emphasizing the summer touch, and then does a kireji, cutting into the scene to reveal the true part of that place in the story and the song itself before going back to the original tone, carrying the kigo along with it. I honestly didn't notice it until a certain scene played out. I won't spoil it, but Cherry (one of the dual main characters) has these headphones he wears to block out sound. In this scene, it has a tone of sadness to it and when Cherry couldn't deal with that emotion, he cuts (kireji) through it by placing his headphones on. Still, it doesn't take away that emotion and all you can hear is the soft tears dripping out. It's beautiful. Though, I should get on to what this film is about because that too is beautiful. Essentially, it's a classic summer tale. Through the unexpectedness of summer break, they go on about their lives as they would usually do until Cherry and Smile (The other dual main character) bump into each other, switching up phones. After Cherry's friends and Smile's sisters pass through their nervousness by calling the lost phone, they become friends and spend the summer together by interacting and sharing their passions. However, Cherry is moving out soon and decides to help an old man find his lost record at his part-time job with Smile as a memento to their final days of summer. The plot feels so charming since it just screams adolescence. The characters too feel cute and enjoyable despite not being the most complex out there. Though the film has this slow pace that doesn't bother me until the characters start exhibiting it. Sometimes they start or say things slowly, and makes for a bit of an irritating watch when they do dumb mistakes. Not anything that ruins the story's flow or seems stupid. Just the kind of mistakes you want to shake your friend when they do something dumb like, "What the heckkkkkkkkkkkkk were you thinkingggggg?!" Even so, it all lends to a pretty cute ending that almost made me squeal a bit. It's not like I didn't see it coming, but it feels nice to watch an ending that feels so wholesome. Plus, the song that plays is so damn good, and no, I'm not going to tell you what it's called because if I had to wait an hour and thirty minutes, so do you. All in all, it's a relaxing film that isn't the greatest, but you can tell the staff loved every minute of it. They simply wanted to tell a summer tale that everyone can relate to or has wished to happen before. ~~ Now instead of my usual ending note, I want to tell you, whoever is reading, a haiku. Though give me some grace. I've never written one before, so I'm sorry if it sounds stupid. AHEM... Go forth, you lost soul to the field of flowers who grace the land with glee -Kishbokai

Unique art style and color palette is what catches my attention that kept me watching this film until the very end and it’s really worth it! With this cute animation style it really compliments the cute story that this movie was trying to tell us. The story revolves around our two main characters Cherry (yeah as in Sakura) and Smile. At first I thought their names are very unique for example, Smile, she’s very conscious about her front teeth because unlike other people her teeth is kinda unique like a beaver so she’s using a facemask to cover her teeth which is very ironic with her name “Smile” and also we have our main Edgy boy who loves making Haiku and always wearing headphones who have no confidence in himself specially reading his own haiku for others to hear it. Slowly, these two will develop their feelings to each other. I dunno its just your typical love story. What’s really unique about the story is how it ends. The ending really shows the development as an individual of our two MC and it really give me this soft feelings inside of me that’s really cute and warm XD I promise you, this is not your typical “Two MC watch Fireworks ending” The sounds in this film was ok. Not memorable but at least it compliment the cute development of the story till the end. One thing I appreciated in this anime is that they really explained some important haikus and words used in the film that even you’re not a Japanese and have a blurred genitals you can really appreciate the haikus. Really enjoyed watching this film but to be honest it might be not for everyone so I ‘ll give it a 7/10

This was a super cute and heartwarming movie, super light-hearted but also includes some sad aspects. I teared up watching this movie, and I don't usually tear up. A particular scene in this movie was super hard for me to handle LOL. I loved the characters, and I loved their different ways of expressing themselves like haikus and social media. I also enjoyed how neither of the main characters was meant to be perfect and they both had flaws they dealt with. I also like how near the end of the movie Cherrys emotions towards Smile were so strong he spoke up in front of a crowd which he was before to nervous to do. The emotions in this movie were great. It makes me smile, It makes me cry, and it made me entertained throughout the whole film, I was never bored. I love how the characters grew to care for each other and how nervous Cherry was around Smile the whole movie, and Smile grew to act the same, like an awkward high school crush type thing. Also, the graphics in this movie were stunning with all the vibrant colors and unique art style. All around Id highly recommend this movie, it exceeded my expectations and is a good watch for all romace lovers, or someone looking for something light-hearted and warm.

NO SPOILERS: I did rate this art to be 6 and it may or not be fair because it is unique to the movie itself. Granted I did watch "Bubble" right before this movie. Which, if you haven't seen it, has the best animation I've personally ever seen. So, to go from Bubble to this, did make this look cheap. Not in a bad way, I do still enjoy the art. It's just a DRASTIC change. The story was good for the amount of time that they had to use to call this a movie, but it didn't fully encaptivate me. The base line is they search for a record. That's it. That isn't a spoiler by the way. If it is that would mean, it's the most stale anime movie out there and to turn around.
