Based on the title and plot, this is obviously a homage to the American television series "Lost in Space." As a fan who watched reruns of the classic show on television, I have to say this series was satisfactory in that regard. [note: I also loved the largely panned 1998 movie Lost in Space, so my taste may be suspect.] A lot of the top reviews are very mixed, so I went in prepared to drop it after a few episodes. However, I found it fun and adventurous. Sure there are flaws, but enjoyment is top priority as far as I am concerned. The first half reminded me much of the video game "No Man's Sky" of which I've spent a decent amount of hours in. The planetary explorations were colorful and fun to watch. The plot twists were great and resolved all of the questions I had in the beginning. The characters were all unique and fit into the puzzle that resolves itself by the end of the series. [that reminds me of another video game Zanki Zero: Last Beginning] Yes, there is a dumb girl who's only purpose is to provide unity to the group. That's a feature of a lot of anime, I don't know why anyone would call that a flaw. Character archetypes are a thing, and if I read a review that cites that as a reason it's a bad anime, I tend to overlook it. Also, you will note that all of the characters are exceptional or a prodigy of some sort. Very good reason for that which is revealed in one of the major plot twists, so I won't spoil. Also, having a group of gifted teens doing crazy things is kinda normal for anime. Why question it? If you want to sit back and watch a fun adventure with a focus on developing teamwork and overcoming personal flaws.... you should watch this.

"When Things Seems Hopeless... Act Tough" [STORY (9)] The most important part of a story is the build up and the set up. This showed us how to write a good story. The idea to wrap a story about to go through our own path with a space adventure story is an unusual idea and just brilliant. So much to learn here, cooperate, loving each other, optimism, unite, etc. This anime also using a lot of visual story-telling. As we know there are not many anime using this kinda way to interpret a story. If you see an anime using visual story-telling, you know that the directing is on another level. And I can say this directing style is already in another level. The way they linked everything was so good, they spread pieces from the beginning and link everything as the story goes on. The dialog also mostly are amazing and heart-touching. This show also manage to take its time for each characters. Using a flashback is the laziest way to build a character, but also the most efficient way. What bothers me a little from this show was the first episode, they put some realistic technology but use it in the most unrealistic way to build intensity. But it didn't really bother me and destroying the show, it's just that. And this show also lack of calculative problem solving. In a survival situation, calculative act is vital. But this show sometime ignore that. Also they put too many unnecessary jokes here. Because of that, it made most of the jokes felt cringe. Most of the jokes are pretty lame. Sometimes they broke the intensity with jokes which it's not suppose to happen. It's shouldn't. I should say the writing is pretty much good, they only failed to gave us a proper conversation out of context. Those convos are supposed to make characters more alive. Unfortunately the writing and the jokes were not good enough. BUT, they've done well to build and connect the mysteries. I love that. [ART (9)] I love the character design. Also they've done well to deliver the situation in some strange planet. And the whole aspect ratio thing, it tells you that this show indeed have some next level of artistic style. Also they're using visual story-telling in the best way, that's a strong argument to say that the artistic choice are pretty damn wild. In a good way ofc. One problem is some shots are pretty flat and blend. They could've done better [SOUND (9)] Even tough the op and the ed song wasn't some kinda masterpiece, but it really match the tone, the theme, and the story. The sound effects and sound mixing were also good. The voice actors did a brilliant job. Only some of them sometimes did too much and makes it so annoying to hear. The best part of the sound is intro and outro song and also THE SCORING. The scoring (background music) are INSANE! It's really different from other anime. [CHARACTER (7)]I'll just go to the bad side. I don't really like the characters. They seemed mainstream. An over optimistic and never give up man, an innocent and gentle girl, a girl that hates everyone cause her mom is too busy for work, an over intelligence and quite man, a quiet and cold guy who always annoyed and pushing people away, a very shy girl. And even worse that the story was being carried by that over optimistic guy which make some problem solving looks illogical. But the good way is, that over optimistic guy delivers the most bad-ass moments, dialogs, and the best figure pf leader you could possibly imagine for this show. And also, they looked like a group of friendship, but I have to say some of them are lack of character bonding. But they did really well to plant emotional core for almost every character. It makes us deeply care about the character. [ENJOYMENT (8)] It was just couple of things that bother me. The rest of it was beautiful. I love their relation, I love how the keep supporting each other, I love how they connect to each other. I love how the story flows, I love this show. This is really an amazing and unerrated show. This show is about characters journey, and damn this journey is so beautiful. Made my heart shaking when this journey comes to an end. Once again, I love this show.

This show is so painful. (I have not read the manga, this is purely based off the anime.) It feels like a poorly written Wattpad fanfiction, which wouldn't be a problem if it was a poorly written Wattpad fanfiction, but sadly it's not, it's a 12 episode anime. The anime consistently fails to switch between intense moments of drama and light-hearted comedy, the main reason is because of the characters. I really believe the show could be enjoyable if the characters weren't so one-dimensional and boring, all the questionable choices and plot holes could be brushed over if the characters were just a bit better. Characters in this show are incredibly dull, they all fall into an immediate stereotype which is eventually attempted to be developed into something more but fails for every character. There is this message of friendship throughout the show which is nice, but felt like it never meant anything because the group of characters never really felt like a group of friends, because they don't feel like people, they are all so robotic and stereotypical you can almost predict how every single scene will turn out. If any of the characters in the show have tension or a problem arises between them an unrealistic moment of 'friendship' and kindness always solves the problem and they learn their lesson, this is what makes the show feel like bad fanfiction. You know there are no real stakes and when nothing matters, it becomes really hard to care about the characters in the show and their situation. When the dramatic twists and reveals happen, I couldn't bring myself to care because the characters are so unappealing whether you predicted the twist or not it still feels just as dull. I am not trying to critique the show on some 'deep' level or complain about it for not having a intense plot, full of mysterious undertones or anything like that. The problem for me was that I couldn't enjoy this on a surface level. I ignored the weird plot holes, accepted the power of friendship as a solution to everything and yet it was very hard to watch, I only continued watching because I hoped for it to get better yet it never did. Overall, I would not recommend this show, 12 episodes felt a lot more like 24 of pure pain and boredom. Maybe if you enjoy sci-fi and really love themes of the, like, power of friendship, I can recommend this? Otherwise I would recommend watching anything else, it's not the worst anime but it's pretty bad.

OH boi i don't really have high expectation about this Anime at first, however upon completing watching this Anime I can finally say that i'm wrong!.. It exceeds my expectation Kanata no Astra is like a hidden gem waiting to be found by you!!! now for the review. How the story started is somehow generic(at least for genre of sci-fi/space/adventure and for me) while watching the first episode i find myself pondering as it is boring and childish at first, specifically the main protagonist and the main heroine of the series, at first i really think that the main heroine is a little bit childish and annoying, but wait up that character of hers is truly a gem specially for the team(she's officially a waifu material now hahaha. you'll find it soon enough if you ever decide to watch the Anime). As the story progress from episode 2 onward i'm starting to find myself immerse on it. It make me remember the feeling that is so familiar, yes the feeling of enjoying every single thing this Anime has to offer. Each episode is becoming more interesting as the adventure of our main characters continue, some parts of the story is generic but what makes this Anime special is the fact how they amazingly executed those some generic parts into a gem. I almost forgot to mention about the plot twist of this anime is really good(so satisfying), i wasn't really expecting that kind of plot twist or how they managed to execute that plot twist so well in a 12 episodes Anime, it's truly amazing and i lost(great pun if i say so hahaha) words for this Anime, if i have to give a one word for this Anime it must be "MASTERPIECE"(at least for me hahaha), Lastly i just want to say that the ending is so satisfying specifically my OTP. My ship has finally sails and i'll definitely will revisit this Anime sometime in the future. PS: This reminded me how important Friends in our life. Friendship wins <3 <3 <3

This story seems to resonate with a lot of different people. It is, after all, about people that are in high school so it’s only natural that people of that particular age group are interested. If you strip everything down to its very core, that’s what this story is all about, exploring things that are new. Everyone does this and one time or another, whether it’s willingly or not. Maybe that’s why it resonates with so many people. The fact that it’s always about exploring new things is definitely something that keeps it from becoming mundane. You don’t ever feel like you’re watching a rehashed version of the same story over and over again.

I’ve always been drawn to stories of survival. There’s just something about man being out of his element. Being forced to do anything to survive. It’s like the classic underdog story just with more psychological elements and a wilderness setting. In the same way I’ve always found space to be fascinating. It’s the great beyond where no one knows what really exists out there. I just love the mystery aspect of it. This season I was blessed to discover an anime that fit all the different things that I love. Kanata No Astra or it’s English name “Astra Lost In Space” opening shot gives this sense of panic and horror as this person is floating alone in the dead of space. It feels a lot like the movie Gravity for you movie buffs out there. The person is desperately trying to gain control of their surroundings but it all seems hopeless. Dread starts to set in. Then as the character is endlessly spinning around, hope appears, but even that hope may not be what it appears. Now is when it all starts to get real. Just that opening scene sets the tone for the kind of story you are going to get and I love it. The atmosphere (no pun intended) is nailed within the first 10 seconds to the point where I am already sold. That is rare to do. Moving on, the person who was floating uncontrollably around in space gets rescued only all is not what it seems. For this person is not the only one in a dire situation. Seven other people are in the same boat as her, each carrying their own baggage and a sense of confusion. Stranded alone in deep space this young inexperienced crew will need to band together to make it home alive. Leading them is their self appointed captain Kanata alongside the quickly rebounded and bubbly Aries who not long ago was in panic mode. Throw in your usual stereotypes of the pretty popular girl, the shy girl, the cute guy, the loner, the super serious I wear glasses dude, and of course the little sister. All of them band together with the sole intent of finding their way back home. The only problem is someone doesn’t want them to reach home. Yes, in space no one cares about cliches. In addition to being inexperienced space travelers they must now contend with an enemy among them. What follows is some of the most ridiculous cliffhangers that would make any soap opera writer jealous. Seriously, I enjoy this show to bits but some of the plot reveals are just too much. Another problem with Kanata no Astra is the predictability of their reveals. They make it all dramatic having the audience waiting on pins and needles for the reveal that anyone could have seen coming a mile away. There is one thing though that Kanata No Astra does exceptionally well, that is its world building. All of the planets that they visit on their journey are unique with their own special features and obstacles that the characters must overcome. Another thing that saves Kanata No Astra from its cheesy writing is the characters. Yes, most of them are the standard stereotypes that you’ve seen before. However they are still enjoyable to follow. I like getting to hear their stories and the bonds they form on their journey. Even more so when the characters are actually useful. They all have something to contribute on this journey making sure that no one is deadweight. Of course there is also some romance for all of you shippers out there. When it comes to art and animation, I want to go back to the beginning where I mentioned atmosphere. Kanata No Astra does a good job of making space look bleak but also full of life at the same time. The ship they fly on can look a little wonky though as it is CGI. Though it’s not much of a distraction or a big deal. I can’t really say much about the opening song because they only play it like half the time. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever come across an anime that skips their opening as much as Kanata No Astra does. Guess they wanted to fit as much content in as possible. For all of its plot problems, I will say this. Kanata No Astra tells a complete story. There is a beginning, a middle, and an end. That’s something you usually don’t get so in that respect I don’t mind it’s flaws too much. Lastly, the reason why I enjoyed this is precisely because it feels so familiar. It’s not just because it’s a space survival (though that is a big reason), it’s because it hits all the right notes for me. I enjoyed going on their journey with them. I enjoyed getting to explore all the unique worlds that they came across. I enjoyed every ridiculous plot reveal after plot reveal. I enjoyed the relationships that the characters built with each other. I flat out just enjoyed this anime.

This shit... was so ass. Every single character sucks, they're all beyond stupid, and that makes all the twists and reveals that happen fall flat completely. Don't watch this if you value your time. I watched years ago and I am STILL pissed off about it. It's a testament to how bad this show is. The show has so many characters that it can't really flesh them out very well, and when it tries, it fails to make them interesting. They all have their own individual traumas, and it even has an intersex character, which is some cool representaion. Too bad that cahracter is as boring as all the others. They have nothing going on in terms of chemistry between the characters, either. The production and voice work is good, but that's just standard. There were no standout scenes for the animation. DON'T WATCH THIS SHIT MAN.

Kanata no Astra is honestly one of those sci-fi anime that’s executed incredibly cleanly. It starts off looking like a simple planet-to-planet survival story, but the scale keeps expanding, the twists keep coming, and the best part is—none of it creates plot holes. Everything is revealed gradually while still maintaining a pace that never feels rushed. What I really appreciate is how the anime builds the relationships between the characters. It’s not overly dramatic, but more like, “we’re a team, and we need to survive together.” Natural, warm interactions, with just enough tension every time they land on a new planet. Even though the genre leans heavily into sci-fi mystery, the story stays easy to follow. Each planet brings a unique challenge, and watching them work together makes you genuinely invested in each member of the group. Personally, I feel like this anime has almost no flaws. The only thing that made me go “maaan…” a little is the lack of romance — just a tiny bit of it would’ve added even more life to the story. But that’s not the anime’s fault; the genre simply doesn’t leave much room for it. Overall, Kanata no Astra is a complete package: exciting, tightly written, full of twists, and incredibly satisfying from start to finish. It’s one of those shows that ends and immediately makes you think, “Wait… why is this so good?”

A mystery in space revolving around a bunch of children. Each episode tries to leave you with something to mule over until the next. It was real close to being a recommend for me, but unrealistic characters and decisions really took me out of it. The whole premise itself was a bit too much for me at the start. They are going alone to a planet for a few days as a class trip? I understand this is supposed to be a futuristic society, but even in current times a group of kids wouldn't be sent out to some remote area as a class bonding trip alone. There would be chaperones. If that was the only hick-up I could have recovered, but during the whole story decisions are made, and characters act in ways that make no sense for their situation. I'm not going to go into details, but the show even 4th wall breaks for a joke at some point, pointing out how this is a space drama/slapstick comedy. It's not a good combination, and undermines the dramatic part of the show for me. Despite all that, I did watch it through to the end, since I wanted to know how things were resolved. The overall resolution/solution to the mystery was more interesting than I assumed it would be. The last episode really dragged, but maybe some would like that for extended closure. Overall if the stuff I mentioned doesn't sound like a big deal you'd probably enjoy the show a lot more, and should give it a shot.

Just discovered this a couple weeks ago. I was hooked after 2 episodes. After ending this series, I felt really surprised how long it took me to find this absolute gem. It gave me the warm and fuzzy, while also keeping me in suspense, the story beats are expertly paced out. Most of the plot twists were things I would never have predicted, though I was so engrossed that my brain was just going along for the ride most of the time. As I mentioned, I was so engrossed in the story, the way it's written is masterful. It's densely packed, around 2 major events happening per episode, and yet it never felt rushed. I felt like I never missed a beat of character development, their inter-personal relationships, as though I experienced everything in as much fullness as it could possibly be. More so, I really came to respect Kanata as a character or even as a person. It's rare that that happens, I mean, there are many characters I love, but I can't recall the last time I actually felt a deep sense of respect for one above that. I'll miss the crew, but I'll definitely come back to visit them sometime in the future. This was one of the best I've ever watched. 10/10 for me, aye, yeah.

"Per Aspera Ad Astra" This anime gives me the feeling of Star Trek Beyond the original series. But really its not a spin-off actually far from it. Its a mixture of Among us, Start trek Beyond, mystery, comedy and Phycological feeling to it. All of them also executed perfectly. Its really good and really makes you want to jump right into their universe and ask them questions as to how make your life just like theirs with meaning and fulfilment. Their struggle also paves emotions not only in their hearts but also ours. Makes them seem like real people. Out of all the MC's I have seen in anime I can say that Kanata Hoshijima is the undoubtedly one of the best, realistic and most optimistic of them all. This series is a refreshing, new and awesome anime of its own type and I have no doubt it will start its own wave of anime that are similar and even better but taking inspiration from this. This anime really has something for Everyone and that something is going to be awesome. You cant go wrong by picking this anime.

Well if you want something better than darling in the franxxx then this anime is just the thing. Now don’t get me wrong, the story on darling in the franxxx could’ve been better but dam this anime took my heart with it to space lol. The reasons why I really enjoy this anime is that it’s very comedy which I do enjoy, has development which my favorite character are Zack and Kanata which to me are the best characters because why not their bad ass, ones smart and knows a lot about objects, while the other is very athletic and has that leadership you know of not giving up which I really like I can’t lie and yea you got Aries and Quitterie that are my favorite characters cause of that crush vibe they give off to some episodes but it was funny and cute. It also has that little romance where you know they should end up together and not gonna spoil anything but you’ll have to see it for yourself to understand it or you probably know what I’m saying, it has a lot of adventures because of course their lost in space, but overall tho the story, music, character development are super to me tho. Each episode, theirs always going to be something new and new obstacles they have to overcome and to work as a team to be able to survive in space. Plus theirs a twist in this anime that really got me. I got a little emotional can’t lie not of sadness but of joyful and like that kind of mood of “ what’s going to happen next” which I really look for in a good anime like this one. Overall tho this anime is already in my top 20 list we’ll I haven’t made it yet which I need to but it’s up their because I really did enjoy it. Very satisfied about it too. They could make a ova or something about like their adult life just a episode or 2 on their family, if they have a family, which marries who or are they going to be single forever lol. But yea that’s what I think since I would like more romance since that’s my favorite. But yea overall super good and hope I can forget about it or not but to watch it again because dam it was good.

This is definitely worth an all round 10/10 for me, it was quite short, but served its purpose, it doesn't really require a season 2 so I doubt their will be one, this short series was absolute amazing, and one of the best anime's I have watched so far in 2020, during all this crap that is going on at the moment, it was very nice to take myself out of that and into this. You feel in touch with every character and feel as if a bit of yourself has changed with the anime, this is one of the hundreds of anime i've watched that will stay with me forever and not many can claim that title. I rarely ever write a review for anime but this anime deserves it for sure. Almost brought me to tears at the end and I never cry haha. if you are in doubt about watching this (I was in doubt about watching it) give it a damn chance, you will 9 times out of 10 definitely enjoy it, unless you some of the minority who can't see the beauty in this anime and the meaning behind it. long live Astra :D

A show usually isn't much better than its weakest link, and that's what happens with Kanata no Astra. It starts with a promising plot, an interesting scenario, and that's it... This show clearly focused on teen drama and comedy, but honestly failed at both. Story: The first episode brings some well drawn characters into a misterious situation, one really wants to understand what just happened, but no, it just forgets about it until the last three episodes... so it's about eight episodes of childish teen drama that isn't even particularly well made. Then on the last 3 episodes everything starts to happen, but the worst part of it is that happens very quickly and with almost no effort, the whole conspiracy just falls on the watcher lap, there isn't a good setup, the characters don't have to work particularly hard for it, they just realize it. But its even worse, we the watchers realize the complexities of what may happen when they arrive home, so many possible scenarios, I wondered, what smart tricks will they pull to make sure they will be safe? The answer is basically none, just send a message and hope for the best... Honestly, what a waste, such a promising setup, such a great scenario this characters find themselves, but the goal was always cheap teen drama. Art: Its a well drawn anime, with good looking characters and scenarios, but nothing particularly exceptional. Characters: While they all had some depth, I didn't like any of them, none felt like a real human, but rather a caricature. Comedy: It just failed to deliver, and I'm an easy laugh. Everything was too childish or forced upon.

This is my first review so please take this into consideration.and I'm also sorry for the misspellings my english is not perfect Well, what to say. Ad Astra is a great anime. One of the best i ever watched. The story is simple but also very interesting. Group of teenagers went on a camp to another planet but when they get there something mysterious appears before them and before they know it they are in space and in the horizon they see a spaceship. So the verry funny a laboring way home starts. On they way home they will discover many secrets. About the truth why is this happening to them and about the world its self. Are these secrets somehow conected? Whon knows. CHaracter development In almost every episode we learn something about the past of the main Characters. Thanks to that you will get very close to the characters and will be sympathetic to them. Me personaly i love the characters from quiet distancing boy to a girl that want to be friends with everyone.but it is a pity that most characters are predictable, But of course they are some exceptions. The art is good i really don t know that to say more here.it certainly won't disappoint you. The soundtrack as well really good.it makes it easier to empathize with any situation overall i really enjoyed the anime it is funny with awesome chracters unexpected story plots and good art and sound.Should you watch it? Definitely yes if you like space, survival, good story and exploring this is anime fory you 8,5/10

When I decided to watch this anime, I didn't have high hopes. Because personally I'm not a fan of the space/ sci-fi genre. And normally I prefer stories with strong male protagonists. But this anime was a pleasant surprise. The anime has no clear protagonist, but that is what makes it unique. Although it has some romantic undertones, but that is not the focus. Rather friendship and companionship are. I enjoyed the storyline. It was an emotional and fun adventure. It's been a while since I came across an anime that left me with such satisfaction after its ending. For all of you who are hesitant on deciding whether to watch this anime or not, I say give it a try. It will be a good change of pace: One that is addicting. This anime is definitely a gem worth discovering!

Do you like it when a story treats you like you're an absolute moron? Congratulations, this anime is for you. It treats the audience like a moron. Like on the 1st episode. Oh look, futuristic fast moving bike! Nope, someone can run faster than that bike. Oh look, futuristic police AI in a sophisticated robotic body! Nope, they are brain dead dumb AI catching the wrong person IN PUBLIC COMPLETE WITH PUBLIC SURVEILLANCE AND A F****ING VICTIM/WITNESS VOUCHING FOR HIM. Immediately you're being attacked by the story treating you with zero respect treating you as if you're some kind of kid with special needs. As the story progresses, "problems" come. Nah, jk, there are absolutely nothing happened through the entirety of this series. Everyone have a really thick plot armor protecting them from absolutely anything and everything. The only thing they're not protected against is bad writing. Oh my GOD the writing sucks so bad, it even sucks life out of me. It makes you cringe like a *insert offensive elderly people joke here*. So if you expect some kind of consequence happens for any mistake the characters are doing, then expect them get rewarded instead. Again, they treats you like you're an absolute moron. Story: 2/10 What make things worse is that they try to hook you in with some promising idea about getting lost in space and a chance to survive. But what you get is a bunch of brain dead kids make themselves thrown far away in space to have an orgy while doing absolutely nothing else and the plot carefully doing everything for them. Yay. Dreadful. Art: 7/10 Good. Sound: 5/10 Mediocre. Character: 1/10 They mock you so bad by giving you these brain dead kids as the characters. It actually offends me on how they think these characters are actually going to works. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-------- Enjoyment: 1/10 I have a dream... one day I'll finish this anime so I can review it in the way it absolutely deserve and stop it from deceiving people especially the younger audience they obviously targets. Overall: 2/10 DREADFUL! I know I'm too old for this shit... but I suspect that kids nowadays are not as dumb as this anime is trying to portray them to be. OR UNLESS.......... ---------------Score: 8.251 (scored by 49,494 users)--------------- huh... nice...

How to start of with this review... I genuinely cannot fathom into words how much I genuinely enjoyed this series from beginning to end. From them very first leaving Astra to them returning, I cannot express the amount of enjoyment I truly had. The story was a thrilling, suspenseful action packed sci-fi adventure that had you questioning what is true and what is all lie at every turn. The character development and how everyone was so completely different after their rough journey truly shows how amazing they made their characters out to be. I'm sure if you can't tell already; I highly, HIGHLY, recommend you check out this anime! A+

I haven't written a review in a long time. Kanata no Astra changed that almost immediately. Kanata no Astra is not so attractive if you just read reviews or the synopsis, it's just not that appealing to most avid viewers that I know. This is purely subjectively speaking, of course, but from what I know, a lot fans tend to lean over the much cliché genres like action or fantasy. Sci-fi and space dramas need some warming up to before people can actually watch it, based on experience. With that said, I can almost assure you that Kanata no Astra would be a total eye-opener for you. Even if you're an avid sci-fi or space fan, you would find this series worth the unproductive watching hours. The Story: It's a space survival adventure. It has a LOT of plot twists. It's super intense and the thrills will really take your breath away. You want chills down your spine? This is the anime you are looking for. (I will not say specifics about the story because you really ought to watch this.) Art: Lerche is a good studio, I love their art. Sound: Pretty normal for me, didn't tug on my heartstrings unlike Vinland Saga's opening or Aldnoah.Zero's soundtrack music. Voice acting is top-notch, of course. Characters: The characters aren't boring to watch, surprisingly. They have a lot of individuality and their varying personalities really make the moments in the series colorful. Enjoyment: Haven't felt like this since Code Geass. 10/10 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit: Has closure and a very satisfying ending. I totally recommend this series! A must watch! My verdict: 9 out of 10!

The review may contain some spoilers, but I'll let you know if I'm going to talk about any, so don't worry. (But I'll try not to give any) History / Plot Kanata starts with a fairly simple proposition, young people from a distant future or at least quite different from ours who are going on a school excursion in space, he could have been alone in this, seriously it seemed like a promising comedy, but the author It went beyond, giving us a great story, full of twists and incredible moments, as well as following a simple recipe for character development, putting an episode focused on each one, giving full relevance and importance to that character, but different from Many anime that do this, Kanata no Astra made everyone to develop a little in these “individual” episodes, putting Kanata, the protagonist, as an extra focus, serving only, in these episodes, to improve the relationship between the companions being the one who created a link between all. (Spoiler Ahead) Well, they are thrown into space by type of sphere, and from there the story really begins. (End of Spoiler) Characters To talk about them I will focus on their developments, because their personality traits are quite generic, we have the typical super optimistic shounen protagonist who tries his best to help everyone, we have his romantic interest which is mostly a girl sweet, shy and cute, we also have the classic heartthrob, polite, kind, but that has some secret, then we have the tsundere, the smart, the emo, the kuudere and the prankster, oh yes, we have a little girl too. Starting with Captain Kanata's development, he begins as the typical shounen character, saving / helping someone, in this case Aries, throughout the story, Kanata ends up playing a key role in uniting and calming the team, given the situation in who meet, being optimistic and so helpful he has a simple thought which helps him to judge the situation faster, being impulsive in most of the anime, this even seems like a bad decision, but the anime shows that sometimes Simple decisions can solve complex situations, but he is not “dumb”, Kanata has a great sense of responsibility to everyone, putting himself in danger several times to help them. Then we have Aries, her romantic partner, a kind, calm and naive girl, not much to talk about her, since her development is very "superficial" and its relevance is in the past, something that will be addressed throughout the work. She serves as the heart of the team, being able to calm her teammates with her friendliness and kindness. Now Zack, the smart, cool-headed but surprisingly one who creates the best humor scenes, it's amazing how out of nowhere he says something “funny” that he considers serious, breaking the tense mood, his partner Quitterie and Funi (Quitterie's half sister) help in this, Quitterie, being just a princess who always had everything but later revealed that she actually had “nothing”, abandoned by her mother and forced to live with a half sister who he didn't know her, she found herself trapped in her bubble, their development boils down to their acceptance of this affection between sisters, and their feelings for Zack being surfaced. Yunhua, probably the most "superficial" character in history, she is shy and clumsy, always suffered humiliation by her mother and forbidden to do what she wanted, the development is precisely that, an acceptance and that she could, yes, follow her dreams . Ulgar, the typical Sasuke, solitary, serious, thinks about his own good and has a sad past, his development is linked to Luca, when the two have a discourse, putting them all at risk, soon after being saved by Kanata, end up Understanding and prioritizing the friendship and survival of all, lastly, Charce, who could be just another heartthrob, funny, friendly and helpful, but who has an impressive development and twists that left me amazed. Traces/Animation The Traits aren't award-winning or different, nor is the animation award-winning, but I must praise the consistency and minimal use of CGI, along with the few really fluid scenes. Soundtracks/Songs There are none that I go to youtube to listen to later or anything like that, but that does not mean they are not good, there are times when they fit perfectly, bringing feelings of tension, happiness and sadness. Satisfaction/Appreciation I think I can say that this anime was the biggest surprise of the season, I never thought that an anime that had a proposal to be a comedy could hold me so well, I was looking forward to each episode, to know what they would do, and to how such an interesting story would develop, and from that I can't complain, it was amazing, the whole process and had a closed ending, which is something that should be praised.(Spoiler Ahead) It's amazing to stop to think that a story about a group of students being sent into space by a sphere in front of a devastated planet with a convenient orbiting ship could turn out to be so interesting, full of plot twists. , incredible revelations about that universe, but I must say that sometimes it was too utopian, you think, they visit about six planets to return home and in that period no one dies? Or do you get a disease? Everyone is cool, even the traitor has his redemption, and as I said, the characters are simple, scream when it's time to cry, cry when it's time to cry and so the anime goes on, Kanata risks several times to save his mates, surrendering even your right arm, but nothing really happens, is the fact that they are clones accepted? In a country that technically abolished their upbringing? A clone who became king? (End of Spoiler) There are a lot of weird and meaningless things in the story, but it is still good, or something.
