THIS REVIEW CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS Story: 6 The story is the average slice of life but in a medieval setting following a character named myne. It's also a fantasy and there is magic mentioned here and there. now, I would've just given it a 7 if it is an average slice of life, but there is some confusing aspect that I think is just there for plot convenience. the MC supposedly can't "live" without books. books are her whole life in her past life. we are following her life of discovering book where a book is considered a luxury at the time, and her spewing another world knowledge here and there, and also a little bit of slice of life with her family and neighbor. then it's revealed that mc had some weird disease that cannot be cured, and can only be treated temporarily with expensive tool only accessible by noble. while its fantasy and there is magic, both of them actually never shown (it is actually shown once or twice like the magic contract but if the magic aspect removed it wouldn't cause a problem to the plot as it can be replaced with things that make more sense). I can't help but feel like the fantasy and magic aspect are there just to justify this weird disease that adds unnecessary, boring drama. Art: 7 It's average, nothing good, not bad either. just the usual like any other. though I have to say some of the art feel like they will work on manga, but not on an animated media such as anime like this. some of them feel weird. Sound: 7 Same as art, it's average. Character: 5 Omg the character is just mostly boring other than myne, her family, and lutz. the interaction from one character to another is stiff and doesn't feel natural. there are jokes thrown in here and there but honestly most of them aren't funny at all. And then I get disturbed the most with how Benno act. the voice acting doesn't match his character at all. Enjoyment: 6 Its the average slice of life. would've scored it 7 for average if not for the flaw I mentioned above. I just watch this series and honestly probably forget it one month later. Overall: 6 the reason I watch the series is because of the high rating but man I was surprised at how average it is, if not a little bit inferior to average. oh well off to the 2nd part of the series.

A lot of shows this season have the similar premise of "Being sent into a primitive world with knowledge of modern technology and introducing the knowledge to your new world" and this one is my favourite of them all, even beating Dr. Stone by a narrow margin. You have the usual isekai setup of someone dies and is sent to a new world where they have a hidden yet over powered ability which they can use to save the world from... EXCEPT YOU DON'T! You follow a young woman who only ever dreamt of becoming a librarian because she loves reading and learning from books, when she finally achieves her dream she is killed by a falling book shelf, when she is sent to a new world her one and only plea to God is that she can be reborn in a world where she can read lots of good books, and as an answer to that prayer a heartless reincarnation system throws her into a world where books are not only a rare commodity but reading itself is a uncommon skill, especially for a young girl at the very bottom of the social ladder. But what about the usual special power that isekai protagonists get to make them overpowered with a lot of magic power or something and yeah, you're right, she's got one of those, except not really because magic is basically a curse in this world so what she gets is a severe debilitating illness with no known cure that saps away at her strength and stamina. Watch the story of a little girl who against all this adversity strives and struggles to achieve something so simple as a single book to read even if she has to make and write it herself. Follow along with her as she achieves so many small victories on her way to her goal and mourns the losses of her work as a cruel world destroys and impedes her progress at every step, but it is not the destruction of a little girl's work you see but instead a child who will get back up and try again no matter what. Her main successes are not from a big amazing display of power but instead come from her knowledge of home economics and her book-smarts, she gives us a great insight into how knowledge was written throughout the ages from wooden tablets to clay to papyrus and so on in her quest. and we find out that in a medieval society even knowing simple crafts like crochet and shampoo are astounding to people around her who have yet to discover it. It's great if you love the isekai genre and just as good if you don't, because this isn't your average isekai show.

O M G! Finally an isekai which isn't related with a demon king or something dark! ·Story: 7/10 As I said at the beginning, this story is different from other isekais. It's based on a girl that wants to make books, and yes, the story is all related to that topic. Instead of focusing in fights, it is more about creating or learning the different aspects from the world the girl is transported to in order to achieve her objective. ·Art: 7/10 For the type of genre I can affirm that the scenes in general have good animation despite the fact that they are ''relaxed'' scenes and don't need that much work from the company. Obviously, everything can be improved, but overall art is pretty good. ·Sound: 7/10 I didn't like the OP and ED as I prefer the ones that have rock style, but they are not so bad (They are more relaxed, which I understand for this type of anime). Effects and OST are pretty simple and just give a relaxing feeling during the show. ·Character: 5/10 In this part, I didn't like the MC personality because I'm tired of gentle and obstinate mcs. Also, the design of the rest of the characters didn't appeal to me as they were very superficial and didn't give any focus to details of them. Maybe another reason is because I'm more keen to strange characters with excentric designs. ·Enjoyment: 5/10 I liked that the story was different from other isekais, but with the recent anime Dr.Stone, which was about inventions, Honzuki wasn't so relevant to me. I think is good that they change the typical plot of isekais, but that's all. They didn't invent nothing new and the more I see from this anime, the less I enjoy it as they don't give anything new and comedy isn't one of the strenghts from this show. ·Overall: 6/10 I think that the idea of this serie was great, but it remained there, with no progression. Apart from this, I think that it's a fair anime with good and bad points everyone should give a try if they are tired of general isekais. Thanks for reading!

i'm writing this, as one of startup founder in place where i live which my startup is working on healthcare sector. you know. this might be only anime that i will badly recommend to my friends this year. in this anime . we will know Myne, the girl who initially a student, but got isekai-d to become a girl. however, her thirst desire to make a book. had giving her an idea to create a social impact from books. and she kept trying all of she could. to made a paper out. to become a book, a lot of things and challenge happened on her, such as reject, trust issue, and so on. its all what we felt, as a startup founder. building an idea, pitch it out. reject, repeat and so on. it's what everyone felt upon building something new. something that everyone thing impossible. until you are the one who can made it out. so do with Myne. so i'm hugely recommend this anime to those who wants to find a motivation to create social impact. remember, Myne could. then why you couldnt?

I really wanted to like this show. It's well written for the most part, the characters are fun, and the worldbuilding is interesting. Unfortunately none of that matters because it annihilated it's own pacing by committing one the of the greatest sins a fantasy story can. Magic exists, but it barely is shown. I've seriously never seen someone make magic boring until this show. It was cool how they wrote it in as almost a disease, but the solution isn't the MC learning to use it in any sort of interesting way. This would've have legitimately been a better story of they nixed the whole magic system and made it low fantasy with the MC introducing cheap books to the world. Instead we get poorly written political intrigue.

BAD ANIMATION GALORE! First of all: I did actually like the story. It was done thoughtfully and it made me look forward to the next episode. But what I didn't like was the animation itself. What did I not like? For example the eyes showing through the hair. Who in their right mind thought to themself that it's a good idea to draw the eyes THROUGH THE HAIR?!? That's not how hair works! And who thought "hmmm yes, drawing the eyes throught the hair is a nice idea. I think I will do that too" and now a lot of animes the same thing now. WHY? You can't see through hair IRL and you can't see the eye through the hair in real life, in our world, either! But that's not the only thing that I hated. I mean that's something that a lot of animes do now, sadly. The other thing that sucked was that there were a lot of scenes who the people weren't animated at all and they were just jpgs that were shaking. I get that they wanted to finish it as fast as possible but because of that, many scenes didn't feel natural because of the lack of animation and in other times the shading felt off - especially around the faces. Also, sometimes, Myne's eyes were so low and the eyebrows were so high up that it looked like Hank Hill's "Where da Kush" meme. Look it up and you'll know what I mean. I kid you not, there were scenes where her face looked like that because of the position of her eyes. Yes, like I said, the lack of quality of the animation/artstyle really made me angry because the story of the anime was actually good but because of the animation alone, I'll rate it a 4/10!

All the positive reviews definitely decided me to give this Isekai a try -I am still trying to reconcile people's enthusiasm with my own experience of the show. My first impression was that the world itself is extremly bland. The city looks boring, the "houses" fail to capture medieval atmosphere and are just generic, the inside similarly lacks inspiration and feels unrealistic. In other words, the world cruelly lacks depth and details. The show also fails to maintain a coherent universe and narrative, at different levels. Nothing really makes sense, and I'm not talking about being picky: contradictions and inconsistencies just jump at the viewer. From the 20ish girl that ends up in a kid's body and then just acts like one but still keeps some of her old self when it's deemed useful, to reactions that always feel wrong, and even the main character's motivation feels really off. And then there's the story and what we actually get to see: uninteresting, repetitive, and making so little sense that we end up having to pretend that the MC indeed reverted back to a 6yo, who ends up being, on top of the rest, annoying. I did like the few pieces of harpsichord music though.

I'm surprised at how much I ended up enjoying this show, even though it's a light novel-based isekai. That's usually a bad omen, but Bookworm makes the right decision of rejecting all the Dragon Quest based isekai tropes and instead goes for the mundane subgenre in which the main character tries to live a quiet life, rather than going on an adventure. It takes a while for the show to pick up the pace, so if you're already interested by the premise, I'd recommend sticking with it for more than just 2 episodes. The beginning is admittedly a big roadblock: The main character Main is just as clueless as the audience about the new situation, but she's slowed down by her weak constitution and can't find out more about the fantasy world until she's healthy enough. That means she's stuck on the first rung of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs (physiological needs), even though the show promises us the 5th (self-actualization). I know this can be frustrating, but when you know that there's a good reason for it and that there is a payoff, it'll be a little easier to endure. Most of the time when I found myself wondering why something wasn't addressed yet, it got addressed soon after, proving that the author gave a lot of thought to the worldbuilding. The pacing is just a little unfortunate. What appears to be a Stranded Time Traveler plot into a medieval world where letterpress printing and paper haven't been invented yet at first turns out to be more of an exploration into business in feudal societies and class struggle. That's where the show shines the most in my opinion. The revela-tion that magic exists and that the rift between haves and have-nots is mostly based on this offers some further intrigue, but as long as the limits of magic aren't fully explained it's hard to tell if the magic isn't just a writing crutch or a cop-out. In the beginning, magic is only used for contracts and other legal work which I found very acceptable within the bounds of the setting. But in the later epi-sodes it was shown to have more force-related uses too - and that's where things might get a little too convenient. Admittedly, the one convenient magic thing in the final episode was very satisfying to me, so I'll accept it for now. Hopefully the 2nd season keeps the magic shenanigans to a minimum lest it breaks the fragile suspension of disbelief that this fantasy world could function on its own. When spectacle or comedy isn't the focus, I treasure progress the most in my stories. Watching some-one work their way up through hardships and obstacles is motivating. Bookworm certainly delivers in that regard. I kinda wish it went even harder on Main using her modern world knowledge for enterprising purposes once she finally found an outlet for it. Though maybe that would've betrayed the show's family-oriented tone and ultimate goal. Main wants to create books after all, not become a rich business-woman. If she was as smart as she sometimes proves to be, she should realize that she could reach her goal much faster and more efficiently and maybe even change society for the better with the vast riches she could make with her knowledge. That's why I feel a little cockblocked that the merchant guild plotline was cut short by the introduction of the church, even though it was obvious from the start that Main would get majorly involved with the church. After all, her baptism ceremony had a set timer. Plus, the real-life church used to be the main consumer of books for the longest time. And the episode forecasts always foreshadowed the Head Priest as a major character too. Let's just hope the enterprising aspect doesn't get too overshadowed in the following season. I'm certainly looking for-ward to seeing more of Main's ascendance.

Could have easily been a 10/10, but disregarded genre standards by having MC die to an earthquake instead of Truck-kun. There's plausible and credible character and world building for the MC and their acquaintances. The story pace is well chosen and deliberately slow to leave time for abovementioned worldbuilding as well as lore droplets to be delivered in time for the viewer to settle in. This is a fun take on the isekai genre, were the MC isn't overpowered nor in pursuit of world domination, rather than the need to hold, breathe in and read books, books and... what was it again...? Ah, yes...! Books!

This show is incredibly compelling, the way that most isekai political/ business drama are. It’s enjoyable, in the sense that I can turn off my brain and be like “I love books too!” And relate to the main character and their struggles about loving and missing books throughout the whole show. But that’s all I can say is good about it, cute at times, the drama and suspense is ok, but other than the MC having one relatable trait, she is annoying. The other characters also feel like paper, 2D characters lacking 3D development. Everything about the show is basic and lackluster, only enjoyable if you choose to ignore these flaws. If your being critical, the show is barely a 4. If your like me and can’t deny the compelling world of isekai, the love (if not obsession) that the MC shows for books, the cute priest (which may or may not be the reason why I’m waiting for the next season), and don’t mind having your brain operate on low power mode, the show is a 6. Watch it if your easygoing, have time to burn, and the plot seems appealing to you.

I think this series is fine overall, but has some glaring problems that makes my eyes roll every other time. For starters the whole maturity and romance displayed by 5~7 y/o kids simple makes me uncomfortable, it would be much more plausible if they were just 4~5 years older, as they were just becoming teenagers and have their feelings blooming and what not. Main is an exception since she was an "adult" before, but the whole lack of common sense and getting flustered by a 5~6 boy and what not makes me doubt. The whole devouring plot line was overdue and went way too long before it was explained and solved, by episode 5~6 I was wondering how the heck she didn't die in such a dire medical/living conditions when she seemed to collapse every other day, then they took other 5 episodes to tell the main character about it and she didn't even bother to ask about it seriously, she only found out it was mana in the last episode. For such a book loving person, she should've read some fantasy histories and she didn't even tried to test it she could use magic? Clearly it's possible due to the crushing in the last episode. So these plot holes makes me wrap my head, but otherwise it's a fine series.

I own 5k+ books so I may be a little biased but this is really good anime. If you are looking for light warm heated fluff and about the importance and family and pursuing a dream, this one is for you. The characters are unbelievably cute and enjoyable. Myne the main character is highly relatable, and a welcome change from the usual isekai blockheads. The only cheat she has is the memories of her past life, and it's far more accurate to say she has enough detriments to crush a busload of high schoolers summoned to another world. She isn't perfect, she isn't infallible but she manages. A really nice character to see. Lutz, her love interest is nobody's fool, least of all hers and it's nice to see that too. He's obviously in love with her, and the anime doesn't go stupid on you with their romance. Thumbs up again. Her family is equally well done. A wonderful family who's only problem is they are a little too good. The plot is an enjoyable overview of Myne doing whatever she can to live a life surrounded by books. It's for the most part believable, though I wouldn't advise looking up how to make anything she brings from the modern world. What's more the plot actually manages to end well in the 14 episodes the anime runs for. From my point of view and opinion about reading material, it was a really unhappy ending, but YMMV. TL:DR watch and enjoy

Ascendance of a Bookworm was exactly the type of series I needed. The story of a girl being transported to another world and chasing her dream of reading a book is simple and perfect. Seeing Mein desperately try to get closer to her dream only for another obstacle to get in her way was really interesting. No matter what she never gave up and even though the series is slow it's totally worth the watch when she finally starts making progress. I love that this anime is something fresh and new, giving us a slow story of a Slice of Life Isekai. The Isekai genre has been done to death so its great to see anime like Ascendance of a Bookworm take the Slice of Life female main protaganist approach like Watashi, Nouryoku wa Heikinchi de tte Itta yo ne! which also aired this anime season. Mein is one of my favourite characters of this anime season. She's cute and her absolute determination to read/make a book in this world where they're only possessed by nobility really makes me want to support and see her achieve that goal. Mein is basically a cuter version of Miku Kohinata from Senki Zesshou Symphogear which is also voiced by Iguchi Yuka. Speaking of Iguchi Yuka, she was such a perfect choice to play Mein as she perfectly plays the type of character that is super cute and scary as hell when they're angry. Getting an entire series with Iguchi Yuka as the main character was the main appeal of Honzuki for me and is the reason I started watching it and I'm so glad I did. One main focus of Honzuki is Mein's family and god is it wholesome. Throughout the series, we learn more about the family and see Mein grow closer to them and its so cute to see her interacting with them. The father Guntha is hilarious. He's an overprotective father that easily gets jealous when others take his girl's attention away. His overprotectiveness is also another way it shows the family bond and strengths it. The mother is the typical concerned mother who worries for her daughters and overall the family feels absolutely real which makes it all the more heartwarming to see them enjoying themselves together. Particularly towards the end, the family bond is tested. One of my favourite parts of this series is its world. It's a fantasy world where books are rare forcing our main Heroine to find other ways of acquiring one. But there are other elements that get sprinkled in overtime to make the world more unique like a plant that could take out a city if not cut immediately and the presence of mana and magic used for contracts in business. The houses also have very interesting designs being similar to skyscrapers but made out of wood. All of this helped immerse me in its world. Lutz, one of the main characters, is a really good member of the cast. He helps Mein with the things she makes and is always there to help her out when something goes wrong. At first, I was worried that this series would be adding romance but it always keeps a safe distance but by the end of it, I was an avid believer in Lutz X Mein. The art is nice especially with some of the effects later on in the series. The series introduces an interesting element sometime during the midpoint of the season which I won't spoil but it gives us so many good scenes with Mein and the rest.# Overall absolutely loved this wholesome adventure from start to finish. Getting a full series with Iguchi Yuka as the lead was great and the story ended up keeping me excited every week. This anime season has given us a lot of new settings and ideas that keep giving us these unique anime and Honzuki is definitely one of them. It's definitely a slow series but if you're like me and just enjoying watching characters slowly build up to something and like the Slice of Life in between, I'm sure you'll love Ascendance of a Bookworm. I can't wait for season 2 which has already been announced and see Mein back in full swing. 9/10 Would definitely recommend it.

It ended nicely with a double episode. So we follow our main character Main. She was a huge bookworm in her old world but in this world books are only for the royalty, but she reincarnates into a poor family. On top of not getting books she is born into a fragile body with a deadly "disease" called the devouring which is a rare case when a poor child is born with magical power. Mains dream is to gets books and make books. We follow Mains adventures on making paper. The characters: We have Main who own a fragile body but a sharp mind. Lutz is Mains helper in the paper creation and an aspiring merchant. Turi is Mains sister. Benno is a merchant who helps Main and Lutz to become merchants. He teaches the basics and provides help. The opening is very beautiful both audio and visual vice. The ost is very fitting. I enjoyed this anime a lot. It is cute and kinda wholesome-ish. The last episode is super awesome. Finally there is action in this show. I recommend this anime a lot.

Im bound to almost give this not recommended because of how slow-paced the anime is, but the execution is really what takes me inside the world of fantasy. It is the usual trope of the fantasy, it is the usual isekai genre you've met. But as the story progresses, it makes me think that there is depth into this world. As if I'm living at the same pace as Myne herself. As a booklover and someone who likes to imagine but couldn't serialize that Idea, this is what happens if a nerd tries to revolutionize a world that hasnt been touched by modern technology. And the scale of what Myne could create was basically zero-hero. Its like what would happen if Lawrence from Spice and Wolf had a child that is less aware like him and practically couldn't be as smart as he is be an innovator. And instead of meeting one Holo, she met lots of Holo, being the "wisdom wolf" herself. Well, of course I'm not here to give lectures about Spice and Wolf. Isekai genre that delves deep into the social needs of humanity and being self-aware that whatever you are doing there will be problems after problems that follow you around. IS a necessity; sometimes our daily lives are filled with unnecessary things. at first glance, it looks stupid and mundane. But that's what gives the charm; IT is stupid and mundane. The problem that they have is what makes the story interesting, because that's what makes them feel alive. The world is, of course, totally scripted out from the "book of fantasy cliches." It feels alive rather than being bland and focuses too much on the problems that keep getting repeated. Myne constantly found herself at trouble after trouble that sometimes it could take her a long time to solve, into somewhere where she would meet a wall that she couldn't cross. It is that kind of anime where you realize that she is just a human girl that lives her life that is trying to fulfill her goal. It sounds similar, wasn't it? Ovearall : This anime is for you who would step back from flashy big fights and loves to dwelve into a detailed fantasy tropes (world building focoused). This anime is NOT for you who would love to see romance and fast progression. Myne is just a human girl that loves book, and her passion takes her everywhere. Im pretty sure it is a propaganda for me to read a novel right now... This anime is 9 Sakuta Akutagawa out of 50 cheezburgers

Ascendance of a Bookworm stands out in the isakai genre by rejecting the usual power-fantasy formula and instead presenting a grounded, socially complex world. The story follows Myne, a modern girl reincarnated into a frail body of child in a medieval society where books are rare, expensive, and tightly controlled by the elite. Her determination to access knowledge becomes the emotional and thematic core of the series. Unlike typical isekai protagonists who arrive overpowered and reshape the world aournd them, Myne is physically weak and socially powerless. This contrast highlights the anime`s commitment to realism: thw world is governed by a rigid caste system that separates nobles and commoners, with mana functioning as both magical and political capital. Nobles are treated as untouchable, while commoners lack rights, education, and the means to challenge the system. The result is a world that feels unfair, oppressive and disturbingly believable. The series uses this structure to deliver a subtle but sharp social critique. Knowledge is gatekept, literacy is a privilege, and books symbolize power. Myne`s attempts to create books from scratch become a metaphor for resisting systems that restrict acess to information. Her journey is not about overthrowing the world but about navigating it, and the sacrifices required to survive whithin it. Myne`s character development is one the show`s strongest elements. Her sweeteness, creativity, and resilience make her compelling, but her growth is bittersweet. As her mana and influence grow, she is forced to distance herself from her family to protect them, illustrating the emotional cost of rising within an unjust hierarchy. Her victories are meaningful precisely because thet come with consequences. What makes the anime truly special is how worldbuilding, politcs, social commentary, and character development interlock seamlessly. The world`s harshness shapes Myne`s choices; her personal dreams expose the inequalities of the system; and her resilence reveals both the beauty and the tragedy of pursuing knowledge in a world designed to deny it. In the end, Ascendance of a Bookworm is gentle story wrapped aroung a powerful crtitique, a tale about book, yes, but also about class, power, and the quiet courage required to carve out a place for yoursefl in an uforgiving world

This anime is so boring that it makes me feel like doing homework is more fun, which is exactly what I am doing whenever I boot up an episode and get bored, so I suppose it does it's job. 7/10 I cant realy imagine being very excited for the next episode whenever I finish one but the series still manages to be mildly amusing. each episode is just the main character walking around then falling asleep whenever she gets tired. I suppose you might like it if you just want a chill isekai with slice of life vibes. And I suppose it isn't trying to be the most eventful series and even though the main character definetily stand out in the world, the series is still a cut above all the complete garbage isekai pawerfantasies that come out every season. Maybe slower paced series like this one might be what we need in this dopamine intoxicated society

“Ascendance of a Bookworm” is what happens when You have an interesting premise with a cool twist to the isekai genre and skill to make watching it enjoyable. The story is pretty simple. A young girl, who loves books more than anything and I do mean anything, dies. Instead of going to the great beyond she ends up in the body of a little, frail, sickly girl in a different world. A world where books are a luxury only for the nobles or the rich. Possessing the knowledge from her former life and assimilating the memories of her new host body she embarks on a quest to create and sell her beloved books. The main heroine is Myne, well technically it’s Motosu Urano, but we’ll get to that. A blue haired, frail and sickly 5 year old girl. One day she succumbs to her illness and her body gets a new tenant. Motosu Urano - a Young woman from our world, who studied to become a librarian, read a metric shit ton of books on many different subjects and who… died. Yes, it’s death galore when it comes to the MC in this show. For someone who read a lot of books, Urano (I’m just gonna call her Myne, she does assimilate the new reality quite fast after all) wasn’t blessed with the abundance of wisdom. Her first reaction to a new, rather fantastical situation, that is waking up in a new body, isn’t to check her surroundings, determine her status or even to determine her position in the new family. No. It’s to find something to read. I have met people who lack common sense but this is getting into “Hey, kidnap/ kill/ enslave me. I’m really dumb” territory. Her lack of understanding and basic knowledge will come to bite her in the ass rather often… as it should. It’s nice to see a show that at least tries to touch that subject. That said, Myne thanks to her knowledge is rather OP. A different kind of overpowered than in most isekais. Her power is knowledge and she’s adept at using it… without caring that a 5 year old displays knowledge and skills she has no business possessing. Despite that no one actually confronts her on that… except one person but that would be spoiler territory. Everyone else just treats her like a genius, despite the fact that there is little to no evidence that the original Myne was anything other than a sickly child. Something I really liked is that her brains are the only perk of her being overpowered. Her body is weak, she succumbs to the sickness she inherited from the original Myne and she more often than not has to be carried everywhere. I liked that. It’s a nice balance - a word I’m sure that most isekai authors have never heard of. She also isn’t perfect with the use of her knowledge. Apart from cooking her first attempts at creating her own book are rather abysmal. Most of the plot centres around Myne trying to find a way to create a book with trial and error. A lot of errors to be fair. During that undertaking she unintentionally creates some chaos within the local market with the products she produces. The second most important of the plot is Mynes' business venture to secure the means to create the books. To do that she becomes a merchant and sells her knowledge of otherworldly goods. Her confrontations with merchants who want her for themselves are one of the best parts of the show. Not only because it’s fun watching a child confuse adults but also because Myne isn’t savvy enough to fully grasp the value of her creations. The moment she realises that she could have made a better deal are really well done. That said, the plot has some holes. The biggest one is the fact that no one in her surroundings questions the source of her knowledge. One day a 5 year old can create things that even the rich desire, “invents” (I use this term loosely) new dishes and talks about creating paper - something so rare and pricey that most people don’t have a clue about how it’s made, and everyone is ok with that. Her new world is a classical mediaeval world so I would probably expect (no, not the spanish inquisition, no one expects them) an exorcist before everyone accepts the fact that a child invents new things that could very well turn the entire economy on it’s head. Even her young friends just roll with her crazy antics. Second problem is with the characters. More precisely their behaviour doesn’t match their age. Myne is surrounded, at least in the beginning, with mostly 5 to 7 year olds. Yet they all act like at least highschoolers. It’s a bit confusing. I get it, in this world You become an adult when You’re 15 but we are talking about 7 year olds who have skills and physical abilities that You wouldn't expect them to have for at least 5 years. Granted I'm not a hystorian so maybe I'm wrong about this. Most of the adult cast is pretty well done in my opinion, even if some of them should be a little less trusting towards Myne. All in all it’s not a bad plot. Yes, sometimes it loses its focus for an episode or two, but it does remind the viewer of it’s main goal. Well… two goals to be fair. Around the halfway point Myne get’s a second goal but let’s not spoil the surprise. A few more things could be taken apart but the story itself is rather enjoyable. Most scenes don’t overstay it’s welcome (apart maybe some with Lutz but I’ll just put them into “world building” category) and the dialogs are mostly well written. Even if it’s hard to buy a 5 year old would speak in such a way. I can honestly say that I enjoyed the show. Yes, there were moments where I wanted to facepalm so hard I would forget what I have seen but those moments were few and far between. If You can forget about logic, even the shows internal one that it tries to establish, You can have a real blast watching this.

𝐀𝐫𝐞𝐧'𝐭 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠? I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS ANIME! I can FINALLY say that I found the perfect anime for us bookworms! Yohoooo! This slice of life anime is very easy and fun to watch. It was set in a different world where books are so pricey so only nobles can afford them. And in it follows a story of a reincarnated bookworm in the body of a sickly girl named Myne and her struggles of procuring a book for herself. If she can’t afford it, why not create it herself eh? This anime highlights the phrase that we are all familiar with, “knowledge is power”. Curious? You've got to try this one out. Plus, the graphics and characters are so beautiful too. So whether you love books or not, I'M SURE you'll enjoy this too ;)

Turns out, Mary Sues come in all shapes and sizes. This anime is a weird thing to judge. It has barely any conflict. Normally, this is fine for a slice of life story. The bigger issue, is that the conflict that is there is resolved very easily. The driving plot of her wanting to read a book is broken down in to lots of sub-parts (making paper, making wood blocks, etc.). But it means very little. The characterization is also very awkward. The main character is your typical isekai protagonist, so her behavior is appropriate. But all the other children in the show act like they are triple their age. And this is not explained away by the medieval nature of the setting. The story and characters and world are all fine. They are watchable and I laughed out loud at several parts. But know going in that this is a VERY light work.
