Gintama: The Very Final

9th August 2025, I finally finished Gintama. It was a good five years run for me as i started it during the covid. I was practically devouring it but when I completed the first 100 eps I got scared of the ending and how I won't be able to see it for the first time ever again. After that thought I started to watch frugally and took big breaks between eps and seasons heck i rewatched the first 200 eps again before watching Gintama in HD. Now after all this time I finally took courage to end it (main reason being the release of the new series Ginpachi-sensei two months from now) . Its crazy to think I started it back during my high school days now I am in University. Gintama carried me through a very important period of my life. There were many depressing days and lonely days but when I watched Gintama every of those feelings washed away and I was laughing like never before. It taught me important lessons that made me who I am today. I will cherish these lessons as long as I live. Well enough about that, the ending was one of the best ending for a shonen anime till this date. It had such a satisfying ending that I was ready at that moment to rewatch from the first episode. I was scared of nothing. Anyway thank you Hideaki Sorachi Sensei (Gorilla) to have such an awe-inspiring masterpiece that I will wholeheartedly cherish, I really loved everything about it. I also want to thank Tomokazu Sugita who nailed Gintoki's voice that no one else could have done, he really enhanced the experience. I also like to thank Studio Sunrise, BNP and the animators to make the anime as flawless as possible given the low budget. Thanks to everyone who worked hard to create this masterpiece of an anime. PS: Just got the news on the new Yoshiwara in Flames Arc Movie, I was already excited enough for Ginpachi Sensei now this. I can't thank BNP enough and whoever came up with the idea to remake this arc. I don't care that it is just a money-grabbing move. I am just happy I am getting more Gintama.

Gintama gets a lot of deserved praise for its comedy, but it is oddly puzzling when the serious moments of the show aren't given a second thought or some form of analysis at times. I can try and dissect why the entire franchise connects for me. Gintama has a lot of interesting things to say about camaraderie. This quote from the movie sticks out to me, and there's more in the series I can choose from: "When you're seeing family, you don't need a reason". There's other more nuanced takes on the subject, Gintoki and Takasugi's relationship is heavily muddied up by jealousy/anger/sadness, and their interactions were really interesting to watch when it didn't make you pick a side. In general though, it has even more interesting things to say about processing grief, war, and change. When the show shifts and changes along with the world, it puts the characters in a situation where they can't goof around anymore. Some viewers might not like this change, but it's more distressing for our characters when the theme of the show is that the status quo makes them happy, for some it's their only reason for living. Change comes whether you like it or not, that's in the show and in real life. We all lose things. But I find the cast's optimism at the face of adversity really commendable. When they're fighting for their loved ones and some sense of normality, I'm invested because I just want them to be happy again. That's why, the comedy gives the series such an incredible baseline to work off of. The serious moments will always rely on you caring about the cast going off how you saw them interact in episodes before. On a side note, I really do enjoy it when the serious moments has comedic moments sprinkled in. It's typically not great in other Shonen anime because the show is brightening up the mood for the viewer, but here the characters are keeping things light and optimistic for their each other's benefit. It reminds them what they're fighting for in the first place. Gintama is a very special franchise to me, and this movie ranks among the best I've ever seen. It takes everything Gintama has built from the ground up, adds to it, and ties it all together in a way that just felt right to me.

i cant believe that this masterpiece anime gintama is finished i truly enjoyed every episode of the serie and I finished it quickly from how cool and amazing it was The thing that attracted me the most is the comedy. There are a lot of episodes i laughed with tears and out loud, and even episodes, no matter how many times I repeat them, I will laugh again. Without forgetting the plot of the story and the greatness of the character design and writing, I can keep talking for hours about the features of the anime. Gintama has a special place in my heart I laughed and cried a lot in this movie and across all the anime in general im so sad it ended i wish we got some more thanks for everyone who worked on gintama

Gintama is finally over, and as millions of fans across the world restlessly wait in anticipation for the movie's global release, one lousy gorilla finally gets some rest of his own. The Final is a beautiful swan song for a beloved series and is a breathtaking monument for one of the best achievements Shonen Jump ever produced. What was promised was a conclusion to end all conclusions, something delivered very literally in this case considering how many fake ending scams fans have had to endure in the past. This promise would be a monumentally tall one to live up to, and in typical Gintama fashion, it completely catches you off guard and delivers something better than you could’ve ever imagined. This series has been going on for over 15 years now, and as any long-running series will eventually have to come to terms with, there needs to be a satisfying conclusion to justify all of the previous time your audience has patiently spent with you beforehand; something that often is messed up. Who better to buck this trend and perfectly tie a beautiful ribbon around his gift of a story than the man who was able to present such an unorthodox tale with genre-shattering innovations during one of the hardest times to ever break out as a mangaka in the mediums history. A comedy series like Gintama going for as long as it did is incredible, and it being better than all of its competition makes them feel like the real punchline instead. It was with this incredibly long and solid foundation that The Final was able to stand straight up and erect a new standard in anime films. The animation and new art direction was absolutely stunning, and made me feel incredible the way it dictated my attention from one delight to the next. The music from SPYAIR and DOES was also top notch of course, something expected of the two groups who’ve been pumping hits with ease, menacingly facing a task many others would have been unable to do. The action was also taken to new heights, producing one of the greatest sword fights I have ever witnessed, the two men using their swords against one another, the weight of which was solely propelled by the passion of their infused emotions. The characters were filled up with their typical charm and personality, coming together to bring new life to the characters we've known for so long, birthing a new-found appreciation for them all. I could continue with the compliments but it should be very clear to anyone still reading that my small diction couldn't possibly find enough forthcoming words to satisfy my love for it. Gintama has had a profound effect on my love and appreciation for anime as a medium, and has made me realize what specifically draws me so close to it. The breadth of its cast, the variety of emotions it can produce, the gorgeous artwork I got to look at during all of this; it all comes together in such a wonderful package that nothing else can compare to. The Final acts as almost a mini-encapsulation of this, all in a single feature length film. It had plenty of moments where I was audibly laughing, moments where I was almost brought to tears, and hours afterward of sadness that it was all finally over. It’s only after you know you aren’t going to see this lovable cast anymore that you realize that it would almost be nice to see just one more ending scam. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case, so to send it off with a bang, I also decided to make this review a mini encapsulation of The Final itself. Go ahead, read it again with that in mind and you’ll see what I mean. Jokes and a recap in the beginning, a serious display of emotion and the spilling of my heart right before this, and even a fourth wall break when I told you to go back and re-read. Silly me, how could I forget the dick jokes? I didn’t obviously, in fact every sentence in the third paragraph contains one, let me know if you can spot them all. On a serious note, Gintama is amazing, and The Final is a movie for the people who already knew this fact. Watching it was a wonderful experience, and will forever leave me longing for the days when I could laze about, watching the Yorozuya laze about right alongside me.

OMFG! Gintama: The Final is an absolute blast and a perfect farewell to one of the best anime series ever! I just watched it, and I can’t stop smiling, laughing, and maybe even tearing up a bit. This movie is everything fans could hope for and more! First off, the humor in this film is off the charts! If you've loved the crazy antics and witty jokes that Gintama is known for, you're in for a treat. The movie is packed with hilarious moments that had me rolling with laughter. Whether it’s Gintoki's snarky comebacks or the crew’s ridiculous shenanigans, the comedy is spot-on and never fails to deliver. But don’t be fooled. Gintama: The Final isn’t just about laughs. The emotional depth in this movie is incredible. It hits you right in the feels, especially when it delves into the characters' journeys and relationships. Seeing the bond between Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura unfold in such a heartfelt way is just beautiful. It’s like a warm hug for anyone who has followed their adventures. The action scenes? Absolutely epic! The animation is top-notch, making every battle sequence look super intense and exhilarating. The choreography and visuals are stunning, and the fights had me on the edge of my seat, cheering for our favorite characters as they face their biggest challenges yet. And can we talk about the soundtrack? It’s perfect! The music sets the mood perfectly, whether it’s an epic battle or an emotional moment. The way it heightens the experience is just amazing. Thank you DOES and SPYAIR for the amazing osts you provided for this movie! What really makes this movie shine is how it honors the fans. There are so many awesome callbacks and references that longtime viewers will love. It feels like a thank you from the creators to everyone who’s been along for the ride. It’s a celebration of everything that makes Gintama so special: the laughs, the tears, and the unbreakable bonds of friendship. In short, Gintama: The Final is a fantastic, emotional, and downright fun experience. It’s a perfect send-off that captures the spirit of the series and leaves you feeling satisfied and grateful for the journey. If you’re a fan of Gintama, do yourself a favor and watch this movie. It’s an absolute must-see! Farewell Gintama, you'll always be in my heart, forever...

**THIS SECTION OF THE REVIEW is SPOILER FREE** Gintama is a journey that many people will never go on, but to those that have laughed, cried, laughed some more, and maybe puked a little bit, this movie will bring a satisfying conclusion that most series attempt but fall short. Not much changes from the main series, but there's a noticeable bump in production value, which I think we can all appreciate. The sound, music, art, etc is top notch. The movie is paced well for maximum enjoyment, and it's faithful to the source material without being a shot for shot remake. Fans will probably understand what I mean by this straight away, and I can assure you it's everything you've been hoping for. I've seen some reviews saying that Gintama betrayed the fanbase by ending with a serious shonen arc, and I can understand those views, I simply disagree with them. In reality, we all like to parody and make fun of the mundane or depressing facts of daily life, but this doesn't mean that we get to turn away from them completely. I guess I would argue that the endless satire of shonen anime and RPGs throughout the series wasn't a scathing criticism, but rather an homage based on love of pop culture in regards to how we can all find common ground by sharing it, but I'm rambling. Conclusion: I don't recommend this movie to anyone who isn't a fan of the show, but that should be obvious. For the fans, here is what you've been wanting. Please enjoy. **THIS SECTION OF THE REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS** **Seriously** **...are you sure you wanna read it?** **you're really bored aren't you... why don't you just watch the movie yourself?** **....come on, you really want me to spoil it for you? what's the fun in that?** **okay, last chance** **I'm really gonna say what happened, seriously!** Everybody died

"Don't be sad that it's over, be happy that it happened." What a journey it has been. I remember when I was a kid, my friends would constantly talk about Gintama as the show that has a lot of funny scenes. Back then, I wasn't convinced if I would watch the show or not since I wasn't that into the shounen genre. That would ultimately change when I watched some clips on funny moments in the show. That would ultimately be me falling to the rabbit hole of Gintama, which would be one of the best anime that I have ever seen. Every season of Gintama never failed to amaze me. I laughed, I cried, I got angry -- you name it. Gintama, to most people, would probably be 'that comedy anime', but the truth is, it is more than that. Gintama, in its essence, is a masterpiece (subjective). From start to finish, the anime really delivered. The movie itself really closed out neatly and I am very satisfied with the ending. The movie really improved on the art, especially on how fluid the movements were. I was kind of shocked on how the animations felt different from the past seasons, but it's kind of a given since it was the last movie after all. The fight scenes were incredible and I was left with nothing but amazement by the end of the movie. The music choice, in my opinion, really fit the movie. Wadachi served as a good ending song, both for the fans and for the series as it kind of describes our journey throughout the series. I really loved the improvement of every character in Gintama, especially Takasugi. Throughout the series, he was portrayed as some kind of villain but I never grew to hate him despite of this. Katsura being Katsura is always nice to have. The characters kind of grow on you as the series progress and you get to feel a connection between you and the character. As for enjoyment, hell if I had to rate the movie, I'd probably give it 11/10. I was never bored throughout the movie, and I think that goes for the series as well. There was never a dull moment. I loved every moment of the movie and I'd probably rewatch it whenever I have the time. I'm glad to have watched Gintama and to be part of this journey. If you are browsing the top anime, looking for a great anime to watch and happen to stumble upon this, then this is the sign that you should probably watch it from start to finish. Trust me, you will not regret it and you will be entertained. Goodbye Gintama, and thank you for everything, especially to Hideaki Sorachi (the author) and Sunrise (animation studio behind Gintama) for giving us such a wonderful series. I do hope we can meet again someday, but that's kind of ambitious. Until next time.

"Welcome to the land of samurai!" -Shinpachi Shimura You all remember when Shinpachi said these words in the prologue of Gintama, right? Those fun times when they all used to laugh, telling poop jokes, doing comedy schemes, and many more. But at this moment, the Yorozuya and the whole civilians fought for the sake of the world. And this movie is called, "One Piece!!" or rather, "Gintama the Final!" Story: 9/10 The story continues at the end of the semi-final series when the remaining Tendoshou arrives at Earth to complete a mission; to revive Utsuro again and gain his immortal blood to gain immortality, while the 3 Jouin samurais, find a way to bring Shoyo back. The movie was filled with many action fights, as all the characters were saving the world from exploding. The comedy on the recap was amusing since it is the final movie of Gintama. The plot and execution were nice but they cut some contents. The ending was satisfying, as they bring back the vibe of the first episode of Gintama and the introduction of Yorozuya. Art: 10/10 The animation was improved to the highest level. From the old looks of the characters in the first season of Gintama, the characters looked cool and amazing, as they matured a lot from the first series. Every detail from the looks and the fight scenes was improved a lot. The expressions and moments were memorable, even the scene when the Yorozuya held Shoyo while he destroyed himself from the explosion. I don't know if Gintoki's hair was light blue or silver because, in the movie, his hair was color silver. Sound: 9/10 The sound was already superb and I don't have to say anything. I loved when the Gintama theme was played at the very final moments of Yorozuya. Wadachi by SpyAir was like the best farewell song for the series. Characters and Enjoyment: 10/10 All the characters in Gintama were some of the best. These characters will be memorable, as they filled my time with many happy and saddest moments throughout the story. I'll miss their comedy schemes and the moments of MADAO (Hasegawa-san). Even the wackiest Elizabeth and cute Sadaharu moments, I will miss that too. There were so much things to miss but I'll make sure that those characters will be so memorable for me, as they accompanied me from the beginning, until the end. There were some things I learned from this show but the characters made the show rowdy than ever. Do you think if Gintama is worth watching? As everybody said, if you invest yourself in this show and the characters, this will be very worth watching. This anime was worth my time and I'm glad I'm a part of the journey of Yorozuya and the Kabuki District. To be honest, I'll miss this series and truly Gintama is really the crowned king of the comedy genre. Yorozuya Forever!!

I am kidding. The movie was a 7 at best but I can't give that score. Let me explain. Gintama is a slapstick comedy with a few serious arcs either to introduce characters or explore some backstory. With that aspect, it becomes incredibly hard to wrap up a story that didn't have one to begin with in the first place. Gintama: The Final is a final episode is a throwback to the good ol days tuning into a regular episode of stupid mindless fun, bad puns, and straight man comebacks. It's not a movie for everyone. It's a movie for us old fans. Think of it like the recent "Friends" reunion movie. It's not entertainment for everyone but gold for the die-hard fans. Gintama: the Final has the traditional setup of an episode. Fourth wall breaking, roasting itself and the characters even at the post-credit scene which kind of explains the author's intention with the film. "The story can't be wrapped up. The anime has already tied up all the loose ends that could be tied up. This is just a tribute to you fans. Live with it" - Soraechi's words couldn't have been louder throughout the film. Now, this might seem like a defense to the problems of the movie. Yes, there are problems in the movie. The art felt awkward at times while amazing during some scenes. The amazement of Gintama openings and ending music wasn't quite there and the movie can feel like an awkward mess, if you aren't really a fan of Gintama. It would be a mistake to introduce this movie as the best to offer to the world because of its ranking in MAL but I believe that it deserves its first position due to the countless laughs it had offered to the anime community throughout its seasons. Gintama is a great anime. Go have a watch. P.S My fellow fans. Maybe revise your ranking to pull it down to at least the 5th top?

MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE WHOLE GINTAMA FRANCHISE I got to know about the anime called Gintama in the summer of 2020s and started watching it. From the beginning of the first season, I felt like I'll enjoy this anime so much and I did. The whole season one was full of comedy, a bit of action and started developing the dynamics and it handles that well. After season one, the second season, as well as the third season, was a bit different, there were more action sequences and the production was a lot better. Then came season four, a highly anticipated and much waited season and it pays off the worth of watching 300 episodes. After episode 300, Gintama was no more a gag comedy series, it became a shounen with a lot of serious moments which were not expected from Gintama, it completely blew me off. And I watched the Final movie today. Indeed, it was a masterpiece. Its message is everything that Gintama has built up to for 367 episodes, and it's a celebration of what makes it so special. Gintama is amazing because of how perfectly it depicts the beauty in finding connection, even after losing everything. The bonds we form with others can rework the old, and that we can continue to rebuild what we've lost. An incredibly powerful message is delivered in the most exceptional way possible. There's so much to this arc in how it illustrates this theme. My thoughts on Gintama (more like opening my heart) Gintama made me laugh, Gintama made me cry. Gintama made me feel things that no other animanga has made me feel, and it's quite possibly the most impactful, powerful work I've ever consumed. Its message is something everyone can take from, and it is a series that everyone can relate to some degree. It took my heart damn near instantly, and to this day Gintama has never left my mind. It's a celebration of everything that makes life so great, and what makes human connection such a wonderful thing. Gintama is perfect. Gintama is a festivity of friendship, of finding a purpose and moving onwards. It's the best show I've ever watched, and the most impactful ever, I'm gonna miss it so much What do you do when you lose everything you hold precious? Hold on to the memories and past, trying to fill in the void (Takasugi), Move on and Live (Gintoki), or just stay still and empty (Utsuro) One of the most beautiful messages delivered exceptionally. What is means to create bonds, what happens when those bonds are broken, and how to live on. Nonetheless Nothing is topping this Masterpiece.

A subjective piece of media. If you're a heartless person and have somehow not connected with any of the characters, and dislike "overly melodramatic" arcs, this isn't for you. But if you've been following Gintama, have a taste for the more serious arcs, and is looking for a resolution to the silver soul arc, then by all means, I can't recommend this movie enough. The animation? I thought it improved drastically in the slip arc, but the movie is an even greater upgrade. Voice acting - have you watched Gintama? 10/10 as usual. The sound design and music - 10/10. The sound design, animation, dialogue and music will make your heart go out to characters you never even felt a connection to. Even though Gintama isn't just about the ending, it's about the whole journey, the movie could not have been executed better. Everything had come full circle, and it was a solid resolution to Gintoki's past, and effectively connects his past to his present. Sure, compared to the second movie, there isn't much of a thought-out plot and storyline (6/10), but nevertheless, I personally very much enjoyed it. Everything really came full circle from that one episode that parodied the Gintama ending. The main reason why I rated the movie 10/10 was because of the sentimental value, along with the solid resolution to the one hell of a journey Gintama put me through. Gintama's goofy characters was etched into my heart, and life didn't feel the same without every single one of Edo's residents. And if you felt the same way too, then go ahead, I can't recommend the movie enough. The series will forever be in my heart.

This is by far my number one favorite anime of all time. It has o much entertainment for all viewers with its comedy, action, and references to other anime. And with this movie specifically, I would have to say that this is the perfect ending for a series as insanely fun as Gintama. There is nothing I would change. The only negative I can say with the series is that the first 20-30 episodes can be a bit slow at times. But you will not regret going through this series. If anything, just look up the toilet paper scene and you will understand everything you need in order to enjoy this series. So please give it a watch, and if you have, we’ll watch it again.

Gintama is one of Myanimelist's highest rated works to date. Through its multiple seasons, Gintama will have made us go through all emotions... sadness, anger, frustration.... But also joy, good mood, warmth... These 367 episodes will have been an inspiration, a lesson in life. What better way to conclude than to compress all these feelings that represented the soul of Gintama in this last film? I think today, after having seen the final film, that this ending has perfectly fulfilled its role... An ending that will forever remain as one of the most beautiful of all. As far as the film is concerned, everything is perfect in my opinion... Some might reproach the "comical" ending, but let's not forget that we are still in a parody anime. The characters, the music, the art direction as well as the animation itself were all up to the task of this finale. We remain in the spirit of Gintama: parodic but at the same time touching and profound. A life lesson, an experience that will have left its mark, comes to an end. I would like to thank Sorachi Hideaki for having created this magnificent work, which has marked me and will continue to mark me until probably the rest of my life. Thank you Hideaki, thank you Sunrise and Bandai Namco pictures for giving us the best gift ever.

Gintama translates roughly to silver soul, and I can say my soul now has a touch of silver residing within it. This, like many before me, is a review of Gintama as a series, which I lovingly write here after finishing the final movie. Except, I couldn't review this series if I tried to. There are plenty of people out there way smarter than me who have broken down this show in every way they can. So, I instead would like to offer up to you all what this show has done for me over the last year I've spent watching it. Life sucks, and for a lot of us we watch anime, read books, and play games as a way of escaping. Gintama taught me how much smiling can shine a light in the darkness of my life. These last couple of years have been really tough on us all, but watching this show made me forget about all that. For 20 minutes at a time, I could go to my happy place and smile the pain of living away. The thing that I never saw coming in this show was how attached I would become to the cast, which really helped make those "serious" moments throughout the show better. Let me speak directly to anyone reading this with the question, "should I watch this?" If you heard that the show gets good once it's serious, don't bother watching. 90% of the show is comedy, if you don't want to deal with that then don't watch. You need to set your expectations, be here for the comedy, and revel at the story that unfolds as the show gets more serious. Also, don't skip ahead through the show to serious arcs. They won't hit you the way that they're supposed to. Part of what makes this story so unique is how the comedy builds up the characters. I don't like handing out the rating of 10/10 very often. I reserve that title for something that is both a personal favorite and something that helps me in my personal life. That being said, nothing is more worthy of both that title and your time than this show.

This review would be for the entire series of Gintama.I have finally finished watching gintama and all i can say that its the best. Also i don't see this movie as the end like there is a lot to cover ,it has so much more grounds and comedy can never have a end, likealways i hope they are again trolling us with the final and will come back asap in a year or two with more work, coz i want to see more of ginsan, shinpachi, kagura and the gang. Well if u are here that means u have already watched all, i just want to say its not the end, comeon let the final thing again be a troll and come back with a new season filled with every type of emotions like always.

Simply beautiful and satisfying. There's a few anime out there that truly touches your soul. Be it as it may when I first started Gintama I was reluctant to continue this series, as I thought were only gags. I might not have enjoyed every single arc, because some of the jokes I did not see as funny or sometimes even falling out because it was uninteresting. But, this series concludes with this final movie. I can't seem to think of another way it could have ended. This movie perfectly cemented the characters of Gintoki. That made me believe to be the best written main character in the shonen genre. It, somehow made me feel connected towards these characters. As if they were human. Well, These 2-D characters are already human in our hearts if we could empathize with them. And that's what makes Gintama soo good. The way it can switch from comedy to seriousness is so unique. I think that there wouldn't be quite anything else like it. Gintama is truly far ahead of its time. I am really glad that I was able to start this journey. And I hope that everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. Thank you Sorachi for creating this masterpiece. I hope that we will meet again, but Gintama will stay with me forever. YOROZUYAA FOREVER!!!

It was a great blend of drama and comedy as always. I would say that the parody scenes of a particular anime at the beginning was fucking epic and hilarious. Those madlads in the studio pulled it off. Anyways, it was a great conclusion to the anime. I am really happy I was able to see it in the theaters. For the manga readers who know the conclusion of the story, there are bonus scenes that don’t exist in the manga. You should check them out. gintama are always the best i love gintama when i was young, and now its ended on its final movie so sadd, so hard to find anime has comedy and action
MurMur18
I think the final gintama anime is very good in terms of story and comedy, the opening song is very good especially with the same band as the previous gintama series, I think the graphics of this anime are a bit on the level so it's good it's good but I think it's a bit lacking in gintama but that's it very good, moreover I am a person who really likes gintama from the eps 1 series until now, and this movie is a masterpiece. I'm also very sad that this is the last movie of Gintama and I'm also happy that Gintama is finally over but I'm very, very sad
Malforshort
I completely loved this movie. This is easily the best anime movie ive ever seen. The conclusion was amazing in normal gintama fashion, all the characters are very well done, the fights are amazing, the osts are great, and even the character moments and characters conclusions are insanely peak. As of now I do not see a single anime being as good as gintama it is truly one of a kind and no anime will ever be like it ever again. I have never watched an anime where I could be laughing hysterically one second and very sad the next. There is only one other mc ive seen as great as gintoki he just fits so well and is done to perfection, the cast is one of the best ever, the soundtrack is amazing, the arcs are so well done, the pacing is some of the best ive seen, the comedy is the best ever, and gintama has multiple top 5-10 animanga arcs of all time for me. gintoki and takasugi are one of the best dynamics in all of animanga. GINTAMA IS THE BEST ANIME OF ALL TIME, thank you.
