Mushoku Tensei is undoubtedly a divisive anime, and I think it's for the best to state that fact before beginning the actual review of the show. It's not for everyone, especially since the main character is not someone easy to relate with, and a lot of his actions can be seen as heinous from an outside perspective, with that in mind, I'll begin the actual review. Note: I've read both the Manga up to the latest chapter and the entirety of the WN, so I'm a bit biased when scoring this show, as I already know what happens in the story. Also, a lot of my points were taken from Mothers Basement's video on Mushoku Tensei on youtube, so I highly recommend you watch that for a more anime-specific review. (Also, a few minor spoilers which I'll try to avoid and/or make them as vague as possible, but there'll be a warning whenever I actually talk about a plot-heavy scene) First of all, what is Mushoku Tensei? Well, it started off as a Web Novel written by a japanese author back in 2012, when SAO came out and the whole isekai craze began. Many people will describe the show as "the grandfather of isekai" and while there were many, I mean MANY isekai shows/manga/novels before Mushoku came out, it is true that it cemented a lot of tropes that many isekai shows set in a fantasy genre came to mimic, but to a more mediocre degree in most cases. What about the story? You can pretty much see the synopsiys of the show here in MAL, but I'll get into some details. The show starts with our main character, a 34 year old otaku shut-in (basically all of us if we don't start getting our sh*t together lol) being a total piece of sh*t, opting to skip his own parent's funeral in favor of beating his meat to some good ol' fashioned hentai. After he gets rightfully beaten by his family and kicked out of the house, we see him get to an intersection, where he sees a group of teenagers having a discussion. Going across the street at a dangerously high speed is our favorite cameo character, Truck-kun (told you this show originated the various tropes). The main character decides that the highschollers' lives are more valuable than his own, he steps in to save them, after which he gets isekai'd. What follows is the MC being reborn into a brand new world, where he, now named Rudeus, decides he doesn't want to end up like his past life, so he'll actually take advantage of this second chance. We get to see him grow up through all stages of life, from a mere baby to a young adult, and all the small, as well as the big things that happen throughout his journey. What can EVERYONE like about this show? Well, I'm glad I asked! There's actually a lot of stuff that don't require the watcher to have an entire inner moral debate for them to enjoy, for starters: ART/ANIMATION: It should come as no surprise to anyone, especially if you've seen even a clip of the show, or at least the trailer, to know that the art of Mushoku Tensei is absolutely breathtaking, and the animation exceptionally crist. Hell, if it wasn't for Jujutsu Kaisen blowing all our minds this would easily be the best animation of the season, and I'm very glad to say that it holds up throughout the entire 11 episodes. SOUND DESIGN/SOUNDTRACK: What can I say? Both of these aspects are done perfectly. Every soundtrack piece is iconic, and it perfectly fits the mood of the scene. The OP and ED are also fenomenal, especially the OP, sice you can't really skip it, literally, it's part of the episode! Also, it should be common knowledge that the voice actors are very talented people that bring life to the characters in a way that the LN and WN just can't compete with. WORLDBUILDING/MAGIC SYSTEM: I am beyond amazed by how just one person managed to create such a vast world and complexpower systems, becuase they're both amaizing. The world of Mushoku is composed of 4 entire continents, each of which are very detailed in both demographic, topography and political systems. There are so many kingdoms and so many races I can't even remember them all, and it all just builds upon itself. The magic is also done excelently, because unlike other series it's not just "say a spell, then it gets cast and thats it, you can be god now" No, it's actually fairly complex. First of all, there are various magic types, and each one has sub-categories, and each sub-category has different spell levels, from beginner to divine, and the whole "mana" thing is also explained and how its uses and limits vary from person to person. (there's also the sword fighting styles which are totally awesome, but I won't get into too much detail) Overall, Mushoku Tensei is a show made with very obvious passion by every single member of the team, and it was a joy to see one of my most beloved works of fiction given such a worthy adaptation. If everything is so great, why is everyone complaining about the show? Well, there's a lot to unpack here, so I'll just go from least to most controvertial topic, trying to adress them along the way. 1. OP protagonist Now for me personally it seems like a really weird thing to complain about, mainly because it's blatantly false. First of all, of course Rudy is strong, it's because unlike most isekai MCs, he actually makes use of the knowledge from his previous life, and in a wold where development of magic early in life determines how strong you'll be the rest of your life, it's kind of clear that someone with full awareness AND information straight from infancy is going to have an edge. Even then though, Rudeus can't really do anything that's unique to him, even his silent spellcasting that Silphy manages to learn. Throughout the story as well, he encounters many characters that far outmach him, like Paul, or Ghislaine, just to name a few. So yeah, compared to your standard do-it-all protagonist, Mushoku Tensei has a fairly run of the mill one. 2. Heavy sexual content. *minor spoilers* I know the word "heavy" makes it sound like it's a hentai or something, but it's not really like that. Personally I wouldn't even consider it an ecchi show, because there aren't really tits just bouncing around senelessly or mindless sex scenes (I'm looking at you Redo of Healer, you've scarred me for life). That being said, there are more serious sexual themes presented, like rape and masturbation. And there's also Rudeus' tendencies to be a pervert 24/7, but I'll get to that later. Unlike other shows, Mushoku's medieval fantasy world actually mirrors that of our own medieval era. In this world, having multiple wives isn't really a problem, as polygamy is widely accepted. It is also not rare for the lord of a house to nonchalantly start having intercourse with one of the maids in of the towers. A father is willing to "tie his daughter up in a bed"* for someone to sleep with whom he considers to be of political advantage, but at the same time love said daughter from the bottom of his heart. It's all very crude, and sadly it can be traced back to our own world. *he doesn't actually do it 2. You want reviews? Fast, to the point? Do you seek validation? 8 out of 10, excited for season 2. Calling FBI yet? Yes, the show's MC is a degenerate. He knows, the show knows, we know. If you need a good guy, a paladin in shining armor to light the way with his raging righteousness, the show is not for you. If you are still with me, let's dig a bit deeper. So, a 30-something neet get's hit by our lovely friend Truck-kun and get's transported into another world to be reborn as Rudeus, a talented kid born into a family of well-off ex-adventurers. He gropes his mom's milkers almost right away and steals his first (in this body, probably) pair of underwear not too long after. Later on he almost pulls panties off a kid and later still he almost beds her (at that moment she was 12, I believe). Closer to the end his peeping on her is played for laughs. Now, do I have a problem with all that? Not all of it. Playing it for laughs was not a smooth move but the rest is fine. We are not supposed to cheer Rudy on as he almost lays a 12-year-old. He has to become a better person. He has to get over it. It's okay to have a protagonist who is a bad person. As soon as it's something sexual, especially when kids are involved, people lose their shit. You eat up Joker, Punisher, Light, Alucard but this is where you draw the line? Because killing people is cool but wanting to bang a female character who is OLDER than your current body is, WILLING, 3 years away from being considered an ADULT by the society she is in while you are even encouraged to do it, is not as cool. The guy lived in that body for 10 years after living in his old body for 36 or something. For him she is bigger than him and he has been a virgin for 46 years while also hitting puberty for the second time... He is also a perv... And his current dad is a walking libido factory so I'm sure some of it passed down... I'm surprised he hadn't done it with a goat or something before that. The society Rudy is in is different from ours. Gender and age standards are closer to what they used to be when girls had children before they hit 18 and knight was not an insult on reddit. Yes, Rudy is scum but it makes total sense narratively. Bottom line is, I don't have a problem with Rudy. He is a well-written character who is interesting to observe. He is very flawed as a person and we can only hope to see him improve. He is grounded. Other characters have a certain charm to them and it's nice watching them interract with each other and Rudeus. The main focus IS on Rudeus so if you are repusled by him and can't watch him, don't. Drop the show or don't even start it. The presentation is top notch, world building is pretty good, there are many little things that make it alive. The show is hardly original but it does the things you've already seen very well while also having enough to stand on its own being this late to the party. I would say that pacing is not perfect and some things are quite convenient but never to a point where it takes you completely out of it. No, you are not pedo or a degenerate if you don't want to set Rudy on fire. If you don't mind him as the main character and are interested in the show, give it a shot.

First of all, Studio Bind did an amazing job of adapting the first three volumes of the LN. The only problem I have with this anime is Rudeus' personality, which appears to be overly ecchi, I know that it was by design that he was that way but still the author appeared to go above and beyond. For the soundtrack, I find that it fits the anime perfectly with its OST, OP, and ED all perfectly fitting the theme and tone of the anime. Another thing is, the art was simply amazing which rarely appears anymore, and the fight sense looked to be hand-drawn wich also I don't see very much and when I do see it, it tends to not be very good. One other thing is, the story moves really slowly, tho that's what you get when you only cover 3 volumes of the 24 volume series.

I really like this series even if you read the light novel of this, you gonna hook up how and they portray every little detail of the story. On this anime the art is totally masterpiece, the animation is quality of good that make totally budget series. The quality of opening & ending music totally good. Over all this good isekai anime (father of isekai)... highly recommended to watch even read the light novel. I dont know why so people taking it so awful it is only season 1 the arc of the main characters of the anime that is why so many people who wrote their review some other are so picky and other satisfy like me. This is only their story of their journey and even unwanted scene only portray of all the scene in the light novel, even the manga they less the scene that doesn't show in manga, but need to more we know. but the company who own the series less the story of the manga i doesn't even bat even if anime adaptation of the story from the source in the light novel. just accept it what you saw because it's only season 1. :))

A personality of a middle-aged man reincarnating in a new life and maintaining his mentality for the sake of a god. Obviously like any protagonist he will have abilities superior to most, but Rudeus due to his past life, makes real efforts to increase his wisdom about the world and how it works. That is the key so that Rudeus does not become a classic Isekai character, seeking to maintain the unity of his family, forming a harem in a friendly and perverted way. The action will begin in the second part of the anime, but it has left laughter, a preview of the fighting to come, development of the interactions between the characters and the taste that not everything will turn out well for the protagonist. The animation is noteworthy, highlighting every detail of the behavior of the characters and without a doubt, a well-done stage movement.

The series is about a degenerate human being who have warped common sense and the world is all for it to support it. Its really baffling how people rate this a masterpiece of isekai anime. The MC is a lowest of the low who does many horrible things and what makes me mad is the world forgive that and they match their personality to favor the MC. Everyone says the visual is great, the world building is great, like new language and stuff. Well, i dont think that can outweight the series of bad things the anime have done. The MC voice acting is great but it annoys me so much. We have gintoki, the chad of a man, pervy but made it to great comedy, and above all, know when to stop playing around and gets the jobs done, to voice a neet that have a mixed dialogues. Whats mixed dialogue? Sometimes he thinks like an old man who has plentry of experience and wisdom, sometimes he's like a degenerate. What the MC always do? Act like a degenerate. Not a single thing he've done is resembling a man of experience and wisdom. It infurate me that the MC is always doing degenerate stuff to the female chara and pass it up like a joke, but the worst is still the family meeting argument, especially how the people around him didnt notice the inconsistency of MC's word and punish him for it. This is realistic like some anime fans say? Get real. Dont watch this. Even trash isekai is better than this.

A quick note just on the overall sexual nature of the show: Sex in MT as a whole, is ... well, there's a lot haha, but the nature in how it's done doesn't actually feel all that sexual. That statement sounds like a contradiction, but I didn't find those scenes particularly sexually tantalizing. Often times I found that most of those sexual encounters were more focused plot progression and characterization than simply being there just to satisfy the viewers' lust. These scenes don't feel like fan-service, but instead they feel like a genuine part of the narrative. Here's a quick run through of my scores + some light reasoning: Story: 8, Every time you mention "isekai" you always know that some schmuck is shuddering in response, but luckily MT avoids most of the obnoxiously overdone concepts from your typical isekai. While Rudy is by no means weak, he certainly isn't god-tier levels of strength. Speaking of God, while we meet a god, we don't see him until later on, and he is not the one responsible for reincarnating Rudy, which is definitely unique, as I can name an entire list of anime that start with "mc dies, god shows up, 'yo, wanna live again', 'aight', 'sweet, here's a penis the size of Eiffel Tower, trust me, very necessary in this new world', 'cool, can I take my cell-phone too?'..." My main complaint about the story is that the different parts (living at home, working, and then post-magic disaster) don't really flow together the best, imo. Art: 8, I really have nothing to say about the art. It has high overall quality and solid consistency in the quality, but no particular scene stuck out to me as exceptional. Sound: 8, I think the VA were cast well, and the music was pretty good, not terribly rememberable. Character: 9, I really like Rudy as a MC, and while, I do genuinely wish he was less of a perv, I find him to be an enjoyable character because he is unique in terms of your generic isekai's that have MC's that are from 'our world', even though that doesn't seem to effect their personality at all. Whereas Rudy, has specific memories from his previous life that not only shape his personality, but drive his actions. While their individual personalities are basically complete opposites, he does remind of Tanya, from Saga of Tanya the Evil, simply do to how well his past-life's personality remains in tact. Enjoyment: 8, Even though I spent the most of my review talking about the sexual components of MT, and while I said that I think they were more than fan-service, they were still probably some of my least favorite scenes, simply because I don't like seeing characters take actions that are going to blow-up in their faces , and well, when Rudy constantly pervs on girls, yeah, that's bound to happen. Overall: 8, MT is a very solid anime, and I highly recommend it, BUT (I really shouldn't have to say this by this point) if you think sex has no place in the art of story-telling, then you'd probably be better off skipping this one.

A great isekai. The presentation of the show has a really cinematic, simple and yet unique air. As far as isekai's go, Mushoku Tensei is very generic, however, all of its elements are almost perfected to a delightful experience for the spectator. I could go very harsh on the anime characters and story, but there is a lot of room for their development (as manga/LN readers can confirm). Characters have distinct personalities, which always make sure to follow the way spectators perceive them. As much as I love the characters in the show, nothing can go as far as the story of it does, the way it utilizes from the amazing world building an isekai like this presents, it really makes you feel the place the narrative takes place in is a vast and different place. You can see why people call it a the pioneer of the isekai genre. Talking about the production of the anime, even though it's not perfect, you can compliment it for hours on end. From the way it materializes the scenarios you imagine when reading the LN, to the well performed contrast between reality and the world the protagonist gets reincarnated in, the show excels others to brings out the reason as to why you can really enjoy an anime more than a LN or a manga. I could easily rate this show as a solid 9, but that would be pretty biased, as the anime clearly doesn't cover the best this work has to offer, thus why I would give it an overall 8 (as much as my personal taste rates it a 10 haha).

This show is like a delicious, sweet strawberry cake that's got bits of shit sprinkled over it. What's it doing there? I don't know, some guy with a weird fetish put it there and ruined the experience for everyone else. I don't get it. I don't get it, I don't get it, I don't get it. This show is fantastic. They created a whole ass in-universe language that is actually spoken by the characters. The animation is off the charts. The world building is really good. Why then. Why? Why do they make the main character one that not just thinks "oh hey, an underage girl, that's kinda cute, anime do be like that", but actually, ACTUALLY goes and squeezes a girl in sensitive places whilst shes sleeping? And then the show just goes on like normal, as if that's an acceptable thing to do, something that we shouldn't think anything of!? There's a REALLY good show here. If only you could cut out the perverted pedophilia stuff. ...And you could! It doesn't add anything of substance! The whole story would work JUST as well without all that crap. I want to keep watching this show, because it's good. But every time they insert that perverted shit for no reason, I start to feel really fucking uncomfortable. I'm giving this a 4/10 because of how torn I am about this. It could have a much, much higher rating, but it doesn't deserve it when they put shit like this in it.

tl:dr best series in winter 2021, possibly best isekai, i would love to see more of it animated. Man this series pretty much revolutionized the isekai genre. Unsurprisingly is one of the most if not the most watched out show throughout this winter 2021. It is well unsurprising because of the long-running novels of the series and is even one of the most popular novels of the isekai genre. It has made several achievements like inventing the whole truck accident to another world cliche and it even popularized the whole isekai genre itself in the light novel industry. It literally breaks off most isekai cliches even though it started running pretty early before the genre started to become relevant. It starts off with a true representation of a underground degenerate literally fapping to anime girls in his messed up room not caring about anything. Later in the episode, the show presents us with the first truck isekai death (not to be confused with other deaths by truck-kun on non-isekai anime) He is now suddenly transported in the isekai world. Now I will try to explain my thought as much as possible with lesser spoilers going through the series. It has a really good sense of presenting practicality in its form. Our main guy is not your typical isekai mc. He did not start off strong or crazy overpowered but heck he started off as the weakest form of a human being. Fast forward to the middle part of the series, He is blocked by a lot of hurdles the biggest one is His needs of income. This is just a really good representation of practicality Now going through the end of the series, Rudeus (The main character) is feeling really smooth right now, everything is going fine and dandy until he is now presented with the fear and danger of death. It shows how the series' character development is really visible making the viewers wanting to see more of the troubles that Rudeus will overcome. Many unexpected things have happened in the series and I would like to see more. The animation of the show is god tier, It is the most stunningly animated show in winter 2021 in my opinion. Studio Bind really dumped us with a true banger of a creation, making us intense in scenes that we are supposed to be feeling intense and other kinds of emotions has Studio Bind really achieved in presenting us a really good visual representation of. The character development is something that I really love to touch on every series I review since it's a very under talked about part of a show. As such I really have much to say about this show's character development as is. They have presented the characters many hurdles and obstacles, many absurd and intense moments that will have a large effect on the characters development Resulting in the story having a true progression route. It also doesn't touch on the plot armor stage where a character just haves a sudden surge of power. It just goes to show that the series is really one that many will have to watch out for its further developments. Overall the show is fantastic, it has revolutionized the isekai genre itself and it shows how the isekai genre is supposed to be treated. The series is going to clutch and bring the whole genre with itself in its highest glory. I would really love to see more from the series. Recommended only for viewers who can watch heavy shows that touch on plenty traumatic instances and violent scenes, it also has a pretty heavy plot so be aware. Rating 9/10

Passable/Good in most things other than writing, Rudeus is an unlikable molester who the author rewards/does not punish for his actions and expects us to sympathize or connect/root/care for him. Specific scenes bring the own authors personal fetishes in to question as the fact that Rudeus has no manner of progression/change in his problematic behaviour and is rewarded for it. His actions can be compared to similar main characters in other fields such as Humbert Humbert in Nabokov's Lolita however in Lolita not only is Humbert not rewarded for his actions but it is Explicitly clear that Nabokov 1. does not endorse his actions or finds them to be correct. 2. has made it so all information is coming through his lenses as a Serial Molester and child predator. which brings his words into question regarding if he is retelling a sugarcoated version of events. However in Mushoku Tensei, All information; seen outside of Rudeus's own personal delusions and monologues, is seemingly absolute and not from a warped visual perspective unlike something like the Monogatari series, Which has similar issues but nowhere near to the severity of this show. the fact what we see is absolute cements rudeus's status as a horrible person who despite being in another world with a different etic he seems to have no bearing on throwing away parts of his own (japanese) etic such as the age of consent but complying when its convenient. It is only due to it being above par in all other manors compared to other shows that I deign to give this a 4, if you removed this shithead and replaced him with literally any other isekai mc it would probably rise to a 7. Utterly disgusting, the title might as well be "The Reincarnation of a Mentally Ill Pervert to Abuse Children in a New World." The series centers on a reincarnated adult whose behavior toward minors is portrayed in ways I find morally indefensible and impossible to overlook. The narrative repeatedly indulges in these elements, There is something deeply wrong. This is the kind of series that should leave you uneasy anything else suggests a troubling level of desensitization. No special aspect that isn't found in any other isekai. The production is good (2011), that's the only thing worth salvaging. However, if you are a pdf, and you want to see the main character making your fantasies como true, this is your series.

Mushoku Tensei is often lauded as one of the greatest redemption stories in anime. Despite this reputation, the series doesn't seem to understand its protagonist Rudy's main flaw: his attraction to (and eventual molestation of) very young girls. Instead, this flaw is mostly played for laughs, with Rudy frequently saying or thinking something horrible and then making "funny" faces to the camera. For a redemption story to work, its main character must first see the error of their ways, often resulting from the negative consequences of their actions, and then work become a better person to remedy them. This is impossible for a show that seems to think Rudy's main flaws are that he's rude and lazy. Not only does Rudy not face any real negative consequences for his actions this season, he's given pretty much everything someone like him could ever want: a supportive family, incredible talent for magic, career opportunities, and little girls to groom (ew!). Both fans of this series and its creators seem to think that the story of Mushoku Tensei is an inspiring one, one where a lazy ungrateful NEET works his way up to being a productive member of society. For a story like this to be engaging, the main character needs to go through at least some amount of hardship, slowly improving as they overcome new challenges. As previously mentioned, Rudy gets everything handed to him in his new life, turning the show into a bland, and often deeply unpleasant, power fantasy. As for the positives, the animation is really well done, but no amount high-quality animation can save a series as deeply flawed as this one.

A tragic and repugnant waste of incredible talent. And a depressing reminder of still-existent deep sociological illness. I enjoy characters with significant flaws. They ground the story, provide characters with more nuanced obstacles to overcome, and deepen the complexity of character interaction. What I don't enjoy is when a protagonist is, for example, a rapist pedophile, and it's portrayed as just a zany quirk. That's an irredeemable flaw in the perspective and tone of the story itself, not in the character. This is from 2021. It feels impossible that this was produced in any civilized nation on the planet in 2021. But here we are. No matter how open you are to accepting and celebrating cultural differences, there is no valid justification for comedic portrayal of childhood sexual abuse. This anime will have you throwing things at your screen. There are some simple but fun story and worldbuilding ideas that could be enjoyable in other circumstances. The art and animation is frustratingly extravagant. It's such high quality that you'll want to push forward, hoping that the worst is behind you. Everything will seem to be going fine for a while. And then, just when you think they've dialed it down from utterly horrific to merely "anime standard" creepy, they're right back at it again. Launch this anime into the sun.

Mushoku Tensei is the fusion of three different aspects, and depending on which one you want to focus on and which one to ignore will greatly affect your enjoyment of the series. -The first aspect is the game-like fantasy adventure, which is by far the most mundane and passable part of the show. There is no shortage of anime that have magic and levels and adventurer guilds, and monster continents. Going in for that will only make you think it’s just another isekai. -The second aspect is the coming-of-age part of the plot, which is by far the most interesting and the one most people praise the show for. There is a lot of time spent on showing the main character growing up and slowly learning his skills, while at the same time showing how the people of the world spend their everyday lives. It’s a fairly mundane medieval type of society with basic-world building and lore, but the attention to detail helps in immersing you in the show instead of making you feel it’s just another dull videogame-inspired country. -The third aspect is the perverted side of the characters and easily the biggest detractor for most people to get into it. The protagonist was a major creep and a pedo in his previous life, and many of these aspects carried over to this world. Many other men are also sexual predators who never miss the chance to assault women. The women being horny and easily forgiving them for all the terrible things they keep on doing doesn’t help. This third aspect is what attracted the most buzz and what defined the whole show. No matter how many apologists try to excuse the males’ terrible behavior as normal and expected, there will always be many who will not accept such things and who will forever see them as the author pandering the creepy otakus so that his light novels will sell more. The show would be much better received if it didn’t have such elements in general. The parts where the main character wants to live his life in the fullest and to redeem for his past mistakes are great. The parts where he reverts to his old ways and the show either frames it as comedy or as easily forgivable in that world is plain normalization of immoral behavior and damages the good parts. It’s not like we, the audience, are supposed to give him another chance, as much as we are supposed to keep forgiving him again and again, because we are supposed to identify as creepy pedos like him, who wish we could be forgiven no matter how many times we do creepy pedo stuff. When there is no actual punishment for the protagonist’s awful behavior (that is, something more than a scolding and a tsundere slap) then there is no reward for not acting like that, or even a reason for wanting to change. He is not a child who doesn’t know any better; he is a self-aware 40 year old pedo who was reincarnated and despite being given another chance, he keeps repeating the same crap and he never gets actually punished for it. Not only that, many other men are perverts as well and despite being older than the supposed protagonist, they never get punished either. So it’s not like the protagonist gets away with it because he looks like a child. Everyone gets away with it and the show keeps framing it like a misunderstanding or a joke or this society allows it and therefore it’s okay. Although it isn’t. It’s deliberate and it keeps happening, as if it’s telling you ‘everyone does it so it’s okay’. It’s what eventually keeps the show as just another sleazy power fantasy for otakus, instead of an actually good example of how isekai and redemption stories should be like. If there is no actual fear of punishment because the protagonist looks like a child, or it’s always framed as a joke, or the society has no problem with it, then what value is there in the redemption? He’s not risking anything, nobody around him minds it much, and the society allows it to keep happening, so what kind of redemption are we talking about? Therefore the show as a whole is a failure, since it has a completely passable videogame-like setting and a good attempt at a coming of age that is ruined by the way it celebrates creepy otaku behavior. Watching it for a hollow redemption that might happen down the line is not worth your time. Especially when said redemption is just about the protagonist becoming another generic harem lead with a collection of pretty ladies that want his D. You know, like yet another isekai aimed at otakus.

To the people writing poor reviews on this show, you need to grow up and stop being so triggered at everything. This show has a lot of bad stuff: affairs, S. assault, a perverted MC, classism, and racism. This is not a happy-go-lucky isekai like many others, and you very well may not want to watch it if you are uncomfortable with those serious topics I listed above. But for the love of Pete, please have some critical thinking skills if you do try to watch this. There's a reason those bad scenes in SAO are the reason why it's such a poor and shameless anime. Mushoku Tensei has these events written in to SHOW you that Rudeus is still NOT A GREAT PERSON and this world is RUTHLESS. He's a 30-something-year-old deadbeat in his previous life that didn't even go to his parents funeral. He gets another opportunity in a new world, carrying his immature and disgusting tendencies over. But this time he's making something of himself and slowly, very slowly, growing up. He's not an OP MC by any means, but he did have a head start when it came to learning about magic compared to others. He still tries to act like he would in his dating sims or RPGs where he oversteps his boundaries with women and girls. Also, he let someone die because he thought waiting till the last minute to save someone would be more beneficial to himself. Rudeus makes plenty of mistakes along the way, but he is actually confronting his issues unlike other clueless MCs. He didn't start morally good, he doesn't start OP, and he doesn't resemble a hero or main character. But we are taken on a unique journey where Rudeus grows and TRIES to be a good person. Along with amazing animation and world-building, this is a must-see.

Well, I've got a lot to say about the first part of Mushoku Tensei, so lets start with the ratings: Art Style - 9 Character Designs - 9.5 Fantasy/Magic/World - 8 Animation - 8.5 Music - 8 Pacing - 8.5 Characters - 3 Story - 4 Comedy - 5 Ecchi - 1 Enjoyment - 2 Truly unfortunate how much time and effort was wasted on making this anime look as beautiful as it does. It being an ecchi and an isekai quite literally serve no purpose (so far) and only take away from the story. I had a similar issue when watching No Game No Life, but Mushoku Tensei takes it to a whole new level. Rudeus is a disgusting main character and quickly became my least favorite character of all time. His father isn't too far behind him either, and not to mention a large majority of the male characters in this anime are outright disgusting people and have little to no redeeming qualities. Not every character is bad though. Eris has grown on me over time, and I did like Sylphie in the short time she was on screen. Roxy and Ghislaine were also relatively enjoyable characters. My favorite so far though is definitely Ruijerd, and even then he's not quite a phenomenal character or anything. Going back to Rudeus, while he's not inherently an awful person all the time, I find it hard to feel anything for an incestuous pedophile. They set it up like he was going to try to be a better person in his new life in this other world, and yet he is still the exact same disgusting bum he was at the very start of the series. He's always lusting after every female character regardless of their age or relation to him, it is genuinely impossible to look past and makes the entire viewing experience excruciating. I can't help but feel like if this wasn't an isekai and instead just followed a Rudeus who wasn't a 30 year old creep it would've been genuinely amazing, also would help if the male characters weren't womanizers for the most part. As for the story, well there basically isn't one until the end of episode 8. There's not really anything wrong with not having much of an objective for a story, but when that time is being spent sexualizing children it's hard to say that's enjoyable. On a positive note episodes 9, 10 and 11 were actually pretty solid and give me a bit of hope things are trending in a good direction. If it wasn't for the fact this series is so highly regarded and fact my friend absolutely loves it, I would've most definitely dropped it already. Everyone seems to say it gets better, but I'll believe it when I see it. I couldn't ever recommend this to anyone, I struggle to see why people love it so much. There's plenty of other fantasy anime out there that are just as beautiful but with a significantly better story and characters. I have never seen an anime that felt so repulsive to watch.

Mushoku Tensei is a show where you reach an immediate high after the first few episodes, with beautiful art and cool power progression, which are a joy surpassing the uncomfortable character you are introduced to. Then, what follows is a slow spiral into the most disgusting trash i have ever had the displeasure of watching. The main character stops all sort of power progression which immediately removed so much enjoyment for me but I continued on. His ugly character isn't properly addressed and he even embraces it in certain parts, leaving almost no character progression aside from him occasionally getting depressed, after which not much changes. You are left with some cringe fanservice filler bore, where every side character acts as paper to plug the hole where power progression etc should be. Only 1 out of every 8 people you are introduced to are actually likable, and when MC is busy not progressing in any tangible way, this annoyance quickly compounds into the most unlikable trash around. Some story does take place, however it mostly boils down to introducing as much mystery and confusion as possible, maybe to try to convince you to stay and find out the answers. If you agree with what I've mentioned previously, you are left with a boring, paceless joke of an anime, albeit with good art, which kinda encapsulates my stance, and hence what my score might be. Thanks for reading. 5/10

This is without a doubt the worst anime I have ever had the displeasure of watching. This anime covers topics of pedophilia, incest, sexual harassment, and even sexual assault. Does the anime treat these with respect or criticize those who would commit these vile acts? No, this anime glorifies the main character who liked CP and frequently sexually harasses a 12-year-old girl who is apparently his cousin in the isekai world. People will defend this by saying it is a journey of self-discovery and redemption, but I ask this: was the main character ever punished for his actions? No. Do they gloss over the fact that the main character is a 50-year-old man in a child's body who is trying to sleep with his 12-year-old cousin? No, they continue to show gut-wrenching scenes where he tries to have his way with the poor girl. I mean you can't make some of it up, the main character literally has an inner monologue where he says "She is growing up nicely" while referring to his 12-year-old cousin. I apologize for continually mentioning her age but it's just something the fandom likes to ignore so they can lie to themselves and say that the show isn't degenerate filth. I would rather swallow glass than be reminded that this abomination even exists. This very show is a stain on human history and the world would be better off if this wretched monstrosity was erased from existence. Never, and I mean Never watch this it will only leave you with a feeling of disgust and shame. I feel immense guilt for even sitting through 11 episodes of this putrid thing, whoever made this repulsive filth should be isekaid to hell.

Most other people either skimmed the anime, didn't read the source material, or just focused on the extremely sensitive parts, so let me give you an actual review. Story: 10/10 Mushoku Tensei is about a shut-in who is eventually kicked out of his parents home and forced to fend for himself, after walking for a while questioning his life decisions, he sees a group of high-schoolers arguing. Out of nowhere, a truck appears and he saves them from peril with his own life, getting hit with the truck. He is taken to the hospital and as he dies, hears sounds of what seems to be extreme moaning (Zenith giving birth). Upon reincarnation, he doesn't know he's a baby, he still has the mentality he used to because he doesn't know how else to act. He acts like a pervert because of the material he faced himself with that turned him into who he was. The story is about him fixing his mentality through his new life, he sees it as a new opportunity to better himself, but that isn't easy for him. It isn't for anyone. He's a sick human being who is trying to make himself better, thats what the storyteller portrayed him as because you can see the impact of their actions later on MUCH more clearly. Rudeus tries hard to better himself but cant help but to keep reverting to what he knows in situations where he's stuck, hence why he acts like a pervert most of the time. he's a damn 30-something year old neet. He's not like all the Generic isekai protags who have the "perfect morality compass" because that's boring, you MAL reviewers said yourself its boring, yet call this trash because he's trying to better himself? Anyways, it takes time for a person to change, and he learns that slowly throughout the series. We are only 11 episodes in with the 2nd cour coming in during the Summer of 2021, so I hope all of you reviewers who gave this story a 1/10 can at least continue to see his progress to becoming a better person, because its a slow burning story. Another thing, HE IS NOT OVERPOWERED! He was given NO special powers, he spent his first years as a newborn fascinated with magic because his old world had nothing of the sort, so he tried to use it himself and built up his mana pool while he was still young. His casting-without-incantation ability is somewhat rare, but you have to learn such a thing when you're small, or else it wont work. He managed this because he kept his knowledge from his previous life and attempted to apply that to magic to perform incantationless magic; he himself was surprised by it. Art: 10/10 As a new studio between two existing studios, the artstyle exceeds my expectations and goes farther beyond what I could ever dream of! The artstyle truly captures what a fantasy world should be, and truly captures the essence of the vast world they live in through those gorgeous landscape shots! Other than that there isn't much to really say for me, I love the artstyle, and I love how the fight scenes are nice and fluid without seeming too extreme. Sound: 9/10 As someone who watched this on a home stereo with 7.1.2 true surround sound, might I say WOW. some parts are a little odd and over-bassy but other than that you can truly hear, even without atmos support, the location of peoples footsteps, monsters growls, animals grazing grass for food, and the voices of the characters themselves. Character: 8/10 I know this is anticlimactic because of the rant I had in the story part, but the only reason I'm giving it an 8 is because of the material the anime skipped out on that would've helped people recognize Rudeus' growth as a person from his old mentality alot more (I'm looking at YOU, bedroom scene). Other than that, Eris has the perfect depiction of what a Tsundere should be, Roxy of what a master should be, and Paul as..... Paul... Enjoyment: 10/10 Judging from the trailers the animation looked fluid and amazing! but with every anime, no matter what, the Trailers NEVER look as good as the trailers. They can get close , but never perfect. Because of that, I was a little skeptical and nervous about how it would look, sound, feel, and portray emotions and actions, but might I say in the 11 episodes we've seen so far, its absolutely superb! Amazing adaptation and I am looking forward to the adaptation of volumes 4-hopefully 7. Overall: 9/10 Skips some important parts for character development, which I understand, but I find it can skip too much sometimes. Its a great mix of comedy, adventurism, and an eventual coming of age story where Rudeus grows to be a better person, meet some awesome and not so awesome people, and truly learns his place in the world! I cant wait for the second cour, and I hope all the reviewers who gave this anime a 1/10 can atleast finish watching it to see for yourself how a person can truly change through an adventure and experience!
