One Punch Man 2nd Season Commemorative Special

One Punch Man Season 2 Commemorative Special

I'll try to keep this short and easy to understand. It's simply a recap of the first season with a very monotonous voice narrating over it. I believe that really good anime are hard to forget. Four years is a long time, I must agree, but not merely enough to forget the thrilling experience that the first season offered. In case you don't remember season one, you're better off re-watching it. Don't get me wrong, it does what a recap episode is meant to do. However the monotonous narration over footage I remember very vividly and clearly wasn't enjoyable whatsoever. I don't think a recap like this, merely recycling footage from the previous season was necessary, specially knowing there will be an enourmous quality drop in the upcoming season. To me, it's an unecessary reminder that the first season was an amazing, brilliantly crafted show and season two will very likely be disappointing to say the very least. But I'll be here to see once it airs, I truly hope I end up being wrong and that AT LEAST the story keeps me somewhat hooked to it. 10/10 Art, Characters and Story since it's all from season one. lul x) 5/10 Sound. Very monotonous narration. 1/10 Personal enjoyment. 5.3/10 Overall ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've arguably seen better recaps, so with that out of the way, let's... I don't have any good punchline to end this note on. It felt almost unbelievable, trying to hope in the hype bandwagon, but you're just too lazy to rewatch a whole season in order to refresh your memory on the show, and then you stumble across this. “One Punch Man 2nd Season Commemorative Special” is a linear retelling of the major plot threads of the first season of the series that goes through narrating over the highlights with a very uncanny robotic host-show-like voice. I did not enjoy that as much as I was expecting. It definitely didn't cover most of your favorite moments, but it was decent for what it was. Just refreshing your likely dead memory and setting some hype up for the second installment of the franchise.

English version: This special episode is a summary of the first season narrated and without adding any new details. The only news are three scenes from the second season, additional at the end of the episode. However, I only recommend watching if you saw the first season a long time ago and don't want to see it again to remember the story.

Some recaps are dragged out, monotonous, or just straight out boring. This recap however, I genuinely enjoyed it. It was pretty entertaining, and it went over one of the most important aspects in the first season of One Punch Man. It also gives you a sneak peak of Season 2, which I liked. It wasn't dragged out, and the narrator did a very good job. Was it perfect? No! It didn't have the same charm as the first season did. But do I recommend it? Yes! If you don't want to watch One Punch Man but want a summary about the first season, watch this. You probably won't enjoy it, but I highly recommend it.

The old saying "a recap of something bad is still something bad" perfectly summarizes this commemorative special. Instead of adding any relevant content, deepening characters, or presenting new scenes that justify its existence, it simply condenses the entire second season of One Punch Man into a compilation that further highlights all the problems that were already present. As a recap, it only fulfills the most basic function: to remind viewers of the events for those who intend to watch the next season. The problem is that, by reusing the material from the second season with practically no significant changes, it also inherits all its flaws. The animation remains inconsistent, with several clearly poorly finished scenes, irregularly drawn characters, and action direction far inferior to the standard established by the first season. The visual impact of the fights simply doesn't exist when compared to the work of the previous studio. It's curious to note that, at times, the flaws become even more evident precisely because they are presented in sequence. The lack of fluidity in the animation, the abrupt cuts, and the absence of weight in the blows become impossible to ignore. Even the editing fails to make this summary more dynamic. Another detail that stands out is the audio quality in certain scenes. A clear example is Garou's fight against the Class A heroes, where several sound effects seem completely out of place. There are gunshots with sounds reminiscent of blades cutting through the air, while sword strikes use typical gunshot effects. It may seem like a small detail, but it significantly hinders immersion and demonstrates a technical oversight that is difficult to justify. I understand why the second season still has a relatively high rating. One Punch Man is an extremely popular franchise, and many fans end up overlooking technical problems because they like the characters, the humor, and the story. However, analyzing only the animation and production work, it's difficult to consider this material satisfactory. In the end, this special exists only as a promotional tool to generate anticipation for the third season. It offers no new content, doesn't improve the experience of the second season, and doesn't correct its main flaws. Those who have already watched the series will find practically no reason to watch it, while new viewers will have a much better experience simply watching the season normally. If only the animation had received some kind of retouching or remastering, perhaps this special would have some added value. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. It's a completely dispensable recap, whose only function is to serve as advertising for the continuation (which, I'll say upfront, is much, much worse than it already was here). Rating: 4/10. Nota: 4/10.
