Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari Season 2
盾の勇者の成り上がり Season2
The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2
WDUNE
Tate no Yuusha Season 2, unfortunately, fails to live up to the expectations set by its predecessor, delivering a lackluster and disappointing experience for fans of the series. One of the most glaring issues that immediately stands out is the animation and character design. The lack of facial expressions makes it challenging to connect with the characters emotionally, hindering any attempts to understand their feelings or motivations. Whether it's anger, joy, or sadness, every scream feels indistinguishable, further dampening the impact of critical scenes. The show also suffers from inconsistent character development and shallow storytelling. Characters flip-flop between sides too quickly, making it difficult to believe in the relationships and alliances that form. There seems to be a lack of planning and hidden agendas, reducing the complexity and depth of the plot. Furthermore, the ease with which characters are manipulated and convinced takes away the tension and excitement that should be present in a fantasy series like this. The lack of difficulty in defeating bosses and beasts removes any sense of challenge or accomplishment for the protagonists. Battles that should have been epic and thrilling end up feeling mundane and underwhelming. As a result, the story becomes stale and uninteresting, with very few engaging action sequences to keep you invested. The addition of a harem subplot feels forced and unconvincing, failing to add any meaningful value to the overall narrative. It's more of a distraction than a contributing factor, detracting from the main storyline. Moreover, the characters in the show seem to be either over-informed or entirely ignorant, leaving no room for gradual discovery or development. The presence of unnecessary cute creatures with weird sounds only serves gratuitous fanservice. Their roles could have been replaced with a more thought-out system, like the gemstone concept mentioned (the closer you are to your destination the shinier the stone). This would have enhanced the story's depth and relevance instead of providing empty and distracting fluff. The perspectives of Glass, Lark, and the 3rd partner lack proper justification and explanation, making it challenging for viewers to understand their motivations and actions. The rapid shift from enemies to allies feels poorly executed and does not resonate with you, leaving a feeling of dissatisfaction. The art style quality is further hindered by poorly designed head shapes for some characters, making it visually unappealing and distracting from the overall experience. It's disappointing to see such attention to detail lacking in an animated series. The main villain, "Kyo," suffers from lackluster characterization, failing to possess any qualities that make a formidable adversary. He lacks strength, motivation, planning, and charisma, making him forgettable and unremarkable as a villain. A good antagonist should inspire awe and fear, but "Kyo" falls flat. Furthermore, the plot, scenario, and character writing all feel poorly executed, with little to no cleverness in the storytelling. The season feels like a filler, lacking the depth and excitement that I anticipated. The concept of "power of friendship" has been overused in anime, and in this case, it feels forced and clichéd. It detracts from the seriousness of the plot and undermines the potential for a more intricate and engaging narrative. Additionally, the absence of memorable music and special moments is another missed opportunity for the show to leave a lasting impression on its audience. A strong soundtrack and impactful scenes can elevate an anime to greatness, but Tate no Yuusha Season 2 fails to deliver in this aspect. In conclusion, Tate no Yuusha Season 2 struggles with a myriad of issues, including lackluster animation, shallow character development, an uninspired plot, and unimpressive writing. The lack of effort in various aspects of the show results in a subpar experience that fails to captivate or leave a lasting impression. As a result, it may leave you disappointed and longing for the excellence that the first season promised. Ratings: Plot: 5/10 While the plot does have some shortcomings, it still manages to deliver a decent narrative with a mix of action and adventure. It may not be as strong as the first season, but it provides some engaging moments. Art Style: 6/10 The art style remains generally appealing and consistent throughout the season. While there are some issues with character head shapes, it doesn't significantly impact the overall visual experience. Animation: 6/10 Although the lack of facial expressions is a drawback, the animation is generally smooth and well done in other aspects, particularly during action sequences. Main Characters: 5/10 While the main characters are serviceable, they lack the depth and development needed to truly stand out. They might not be as memorable or compelling as one would hope for in a fantasy anime. Side Characters: 3/10 The side characters are criticized for their quick shifts in allegiance and easy manipulation, reducing their impact on the story and making their presence less meaningful. Villains: 2/10 The main villain, "Kyo," receives strong criticism for lacking compelling traits or motivations, making him forgettable and unimpressive as an antagonist. Music: 5/10 While the soundtrack provides some background atmosphere, it fails to leave a lasting impression. The lack of standout tracks and memorable musical moments takes away from the overall impact of the series. Fight Scenes: 4/10 The fights are noted to lack difficulty and challenge, resulting in underwhelming and unexciting battle sequences. Enjoyment: 4/10 Given the numerous issues pointed out in the review, the overall enjoyment of Tate no Yuusha Season 2 is relatively low. It fails to capture the excitement and engagement that viewers would expect from a fantasy anime. Overall: (4.5/10): Bad - Average

Hateful reviews and a really good story in my opinion made me write my first ever and probably my last review on MAL. In my opinion the ratings don't do justice to the show. IF you liked the first season then just ignore the rating and watch this wonderful show. As for the story well we already know what the story is considering you have already watched the first season and if you have not then there is no point in watching this go watch the first season first. Now that You have I think the was a really nice change of pace from what we saw in first season the story in this season stayed true to the plot and yet gave a new fresh of breath to overall story I don't think the makers could have done any better if they had continued the pace of the last season this season may have become boring and too repetitive I'm glad the story in second season fit really well in overall ploy and yet managed to get away from the pace of season 1. If you are worried that they made of mess of the story then worry not they have done a great job here. Art style is same as season 1 which in my opinion is really good so there is not much I can say about it here As for sound I think season 1 had much more engaging sound tracks but its not like sound was bad but was not up to the par of season 1 As for characters and this is the MVP of this anime the characters are not trope and are very enjoyable there is not much development in characters in second season when it comes to main cast but Supportive cast was developed Rishia in particular in fact in my opinion the the whole seasons somewhat revolves around Rishsia as a character and it was really fin to watch personally I was very much interested in how Naofumi takes on a party member of another hero and develops are and i was not disappointed As a fan of the series I was not let down a bit and thoroughly enjoyed the season cant wait for the next season Overall The second season was a great watch and I highly recommend to all the returning fans don't let the poor rating poor reviews make you walk away. I really don't know what they were expecting a repeat of season 1?

I won't even try to pretend that this series doesn't have controversy. It does. And there's a lot to discuss on that front. But one thing that Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari had was the A++ writing to back it up.... In season one. Here? YIKES! There was a MASSIVE quality drop in story, and before you go write this off as a manga thing; I read the manga! The first half of this season follows the manga (mostly) with a few slight variations in the sequencing of events. That's fine! But... The second half of this season is focused on BUTCHERING Raphtalia's character. It will take an essay to list all the changes they made, but the TL;DR of it boils down to the animators not wanting to let Raphtalia outshine the protagonist. The manga made her a child to show how much growth she'd undertaken. We see her use magic and stab a guy with his own sword to showcase that despite her old form, Raphtalia was still an adult. The anime made Raphtalia a child so they could bring back that good ol' magic of Naofumi slighting Raphtalia's maturity and showing off his masculinity by being daddy. It doesn't get better. I had a lot of hopes walking into this season, and I felt attacked. I'm sure that if I'd gone in blind, I might feel differently, but having read a better version of this story... I cannot in good faith rate this as anything other than trash. I can understand cutting things to save time, but they went and cut the good story just to force-feed the audience a hella lotta sexism. And they didn't even do it well.

I was hyped for Season 2 as like many I loved Season 1, however my disappointment is palatable. Season 2 is not as bad as some people are making out, however for anyone wanting more of what they got in season 1, you won't get that here. What people liked about Season 1 was that it stood out, he was betrayed, cast out, fought to survive, became bitter and sought revenge. We empathised with Naofumi, we wanted to see him get revenge, but also we wanted his companions to ease his soul and for him to come out on top. With the start of Season 2 he's had his revenge, he's now seen as the hero and the blackness in his heart is fading. So where do you go from there? At this point it's lost its stand out elements and just become another isekai with op main characters. Add to that a significant drop in quality in terms of animation, and you can see why people are unhappy. (I've not read the LN's, and those people are also unhappy for other, and legit reasons) So, here is the breakdown: In terms of story, season 2 is 'decent' while not the direction many would have wanted things to have gone in, and no where near the high standard we had before, it is far from being bad, but there are issues with it, pacing being a big one. Characters, it feels like all the growth and development happened in Season 1, we have some new characters who are thrown in, but they really could have been given a bit more focus, it feels like some things have been skipped over and a bit more time at the start could have helped with developing new characters. Art, the quality of the series has really taken a tumble, the animation on season 2 is just substandard, there are quite a few scenes where the animation is just outright bad The OST on the other hand is pretty good, for one thing, a lot of the background music they had before from Season 1. In terms of enjoyment, it's hard to fully express how I feel about this, maybe because I am disappointed by season 2, I didn't find it as enjoyable as maybe I could have, because at times it felt a chore to watch and just wanted it to be done. I would probably enjoy it more on a second viewing when my expectations have been considerably lowered. So, tldr: if you enjoyed season 1 and want more of the same, you will be disappointed and you are best not watching this, If you just want an average isekai to pass the time, then while there are plenty of other options, and definitely better options, you might get some enjoyment out of this.

I'll be honest: after the first season I didn't expect much, yet I was not prepared for futher downfall of the series. Story. If you are, like me, LN reader, you are well aware how the series gradually goes down in terms of writing quality. However anime decides it can't wait too long so decides to take a nose dive into the dirt. The plot of the season may not be the worst I have seen in isekai, but good god it is rushed like they were late for a train: even the first season missed a few important for character development detailes, and yet they hurried even more in the second season, making some explanations "off camera" - simply skipping parts. And even worse: they changed the events of the original and said change neither brings anyting good nor it makes sense. If their adaptation has zero respect of the source - I can't respect the script writers of that season. Art. Good enough, I guess. CGI doesn't make your eyes bleed, animation looks ok. Still, cause of the way all fights are done we are not shown any stellar performance, everything is done in a rather basic and simplistic manner. Sound. It is there I guess, but feels bland. Characters. With all of the rushed story the butchering of character interactions is to be expected - and we have it here. The villain especially took a huge hit and instead of being an insane dude simply became cringe incarnate. He is simply insufferable and all the scenes with him were for me a huge "oh god just be done with it already" moment. The main cast had their interactions rushed and they don't feel as close as they should be. Enjoyment. I am not a masochist so I didn't enjoy it at all. All the good moments were ruined by lacking buildup and speeding through an important scene. Overall. A disappointment. If you are a fan - skip it and hope for s3. If you never read the source - skip it, as you will not have a pleasant experience. Just skip it.

The second season of "Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari" is a disappointment for those who hoped for the continuation of an interesting and non—standard story. Instead of an exciting plot and character development, we got a boring cliched issekai, who adds another faceless harem to his piggy bank. If you are looking for something new and unusual in the issekai genre, then maybe you should look for something else. in the second season, it disappoints both fans of the original and casual viewers, turning into another default excision with a standard set of cliches and a boring plot. Let me explain in more detail why this series deserves a negative review. The first season of Heroes of the Shield offered an interesting premise where the main character Naofumi Iwatani is facing accusations of a crime he did not commit. This difficult beginning aroused the interest of the audience and promised a non-standard approach to the issekai genre. But the second season squandered this potential, turning into a dull and predictable shonen with a grief harem. Naofumi, one of the strengths of the first season, merges with most of the typical characters from other issekai in the second season. He lacks character development, and his decisions seem faceless and unworthy of attention. Many viewers expected to see him struggle with the consequences and further develop his personality, but this did not happen. What finally disappointed the Shield Hero in the second season was his transformation into an ordinary harem. Instead of a serious story about survival and redemption, we see standard scenes that are already boring in other anime. The female characters around the main character have little personality and mostly serve to pander to the desires of the target audience. The second season suffers from a weak and uninteresting plot that develops too slowly. It seems that among the set of adventures and duels, the authors forgot about the main line of the narrative. Viewers get bored watching secondary missions and endless battles without a meaningful goal. Although the visual style and animation remain at a decent level, they do not save the series from its plot and characteristic flaws. The musical accompaniment also does not cause strong emotions and looks banal.

Before you laugh for giving it a 8 read and then laugh again because I know it stills seems dumb First, I dropped this anime in the fourth episode when it was released in 2022 and I thought this was the end for me with this series forever since I also thought that it didn’t have more to offer after Naofumi regained his reputation. Second, for some reason I decided to give it another try and with the lowest expectations and… it felt like a great experience. The first five episodes were still slow, sometimes boring, but I decided to keep going. What happened next was that from episode 6 to 13 it felt like a breath of fresh air and really interesting to see more about the plot since FOR ME it was truly engaging. Also, the new characters and the ones we knew felt enjoyable to follow just as the animation improved. The ending of the battle with the villain was ok but still it was really fun to see this new arc that followed the turtle battle. I know giving it a 8 sounds like a joke for many of you, but I’m not someone really critical in anime. So yeah, it felt like trash in the beginning but if you really give it a chance you may find some of the same feeling you had with the first season. Of course, only if you are interested to see more about Tate No Yuusha1 and you were scared by seeing all the bad reviews. If that’s not the case you might want to lower your expectations and just watch it with an open mind and not try to think a lot about it without being really a critic searching for a masterpiece.

Everything that was great in season 1 becomes muddled in season 2. This season feels like an empty filler with unbalanced pacing. The show introduces new lore, characters, new problem and a new adventure. But all of these new aspects feel bland and uninteresting. They're all thrown out with lack of build up and it results in a poor storytelling. I can guarantee you that you will not remember any new characters introduced this season in season 3 or 4. Fillers can be fine if they can bring out interesting aspects of characters we already know in a refreshing or different way. We get none of that in this season. But despite all the negative criticism the show is still watchable. There are certain moments that work and if you like the core cast then you will still probably like it. But overall this season needed more work and care and hopefully future seasons return to make shield hero great again.
AntonyAV
Season 2 is predicably underwhelming, continuing to grow the loli harem of the shield hero while giving us a mediocre story, something I found irritating yet funny is how the new loli not only acknowledges that she's one, but also the type of loli she is (loli hag, apparently that's what child-looking adults are called in anime, you learn something new everyday when watching pedo-bait animes!). This season introduces a way for the adult-shaped loli to go back to her real form (a child) as well, this serves no purpose to the plot. Some really bad plot devices continue to be present, like Naofumi being able to find a way out of difficult challenges almost as if he knew the answer from the beginning, without struggle or challenge, he's also able to use OP abilities to overpower any challenging enemy he comes across, making the anime feel blander each episode. Another big issue is how I was able to predict the outcome of every new plot point as soon as they introduced it, like who was going to be the wielder of the vassal katana, or how the seemingly inescapable scenarios or deathly challenges were going to unfold, the anime is just that easy to predict, because it's very commercial and streamlined, the main focus is to sell. Another weird thing that keeps happening is how every girl in Naofumi's team wants to get a slave crest so that they can be ordered around by him without the ability to say no, definitely not a bizarre thing meant to sell to a perverted audience. The strong points continue to be the focus on action, fast pace and interesting scenarios/skills, but again they're kind of diminished by the cheap plot devices. The last episode was the classical section where nothing important happens and they have time to relax, so a series of mini-stories unfold. In this anime they used this to show the girls with very skimpy clothes (children may I remind you, all girls of course), there's also a section where the children get advice to boost their relationship with the hero, of course they're told to, as they put it, "mate" with him. Usually animes do these mini-stories in a separate OVA where they do something silly like going to the beach, with this one they didn't even see the need to separate it, they just made the last episode a lifeless pedo-fest! I think this is going to be the last season I waste my time with.

From someone who gave the 1st season a 10/10 masterpiece rating, it pains me to say that this one is just a plain insult to the 1st season. What the 1st season had was a coherent plot with interesting characters and a smooth pacing. Well the 2nd second season has none of them. The first 6 episodes or so was good with a pretty interesting story but after that it just turns into a directionless disgrace. My long wait for the sequel of one of my favourite shows was ruined and for naught. The character design especially for the shield hero was appealing and really fresh in the 1st season with green colour as the primary selection, but in this second season or whatever, it became the same overused isekai crappy design after halfway into the story. The talk-no-jutsu and overused sentiments troupes were causing indigestion almost the entire time I'd watched this. The villain was bland and annoying. Hope that the director and writer takes at least 5 minutes to think before executing the works for the 3rd season. Really disappointed with this season and wish that it didn't exist. Here's hoping that season 3 would redeem this franchise and become the rightful successor to the 1st season.

The first season set up protagonist (shield hero), the underdog as someone who didn't trust people of the world he was summoned to (for good reason) and relied on himself and 2 of his companions to fight the good fight. So the second season was anticipated by all fans for a reason. We wanted to see how strong he'll become, what new skills and adventures he'll had. Instead, we got a brain fart as season 2 where the shield hero is now a generic Isekai protagonist with a harem and is suffering from that rare disorder which forces him to now only speak like a 13 yr old edgy American teen simping but also act like a tard who has no clue what he's doing. Not only that, most of the early episodes focus is that shit character Rishia who no one remembers from first season, because she appeared as a background character in like 2 episodes, for few seconds. She has a personality of a block of turd and simps on another pointless hero that matches that personality and is irrelevant. Speaking of irrelevant and pointless, how about the first few episodes of that exciting Tortoise action eh? Did you enjoy how exciting that amazing action of.. Tortoise slowly walking around and getting sort of defeated was? Did you enjoy how it was such a lame threat that other heroes instantly excused themselves in first episode when it came to dealing with it? Yeah so after that garbage, how about that comically HI-LARIOUS villain that is the big bad of this season? That cheap Joker (Batman) rip-off trying too hard to be evil but sounding like some fan-girl writing Joker fan-fic in Japan? How about the awful dialogs for Naofumi where he sounds like a school kid taunting his enemies, and the enemies sound the same? How about the fact that they were so clueless what to do with season two, they actually went back to level one with all characters instead of making them stronger and facing stronger villains that only THEY could fight? (but that would be actually exciting) You know, I can keep going but the point is, I gave first season 10/10 to counter negative reviews, and I'm going to give this garbage piece of shit season two 1/10 to counter any positive reviews.

First season was 9 for me. This season's like a 3. I hated everything about it. It's one asspull after another. I hate Rishia and every scene she's in just makes me mad and she's in so many. To make it worse they take away Filo and Raphtalia for long portions leaving the shield hero with Rishia. They even made the last episode absolute filler trash random recaps irrelevant to anything. Like random side character thoughts reminiscing about things that happened this season. Not only that, most of the character development characters went through in season 1 was practically undone this season by its utter trash writing. There's nothing good about this season. Nothing at all. If I made this a spoiler review I'd be raging for pages and pages. After the end of season 1 what should've happened is the shield hero going to the demi-human nation and I can tell you that's not remotely what happened. Even after learning every single nation in the world has to face the waves they all stay in the same selfish kingdom that summoned all of them like idiots. And instead of working together 3 of the heroes just go diddle themselves for the entire season rather than taking part in literally any major events whatsoever. Even after everything they went through in season 1 and knowing they need to work together. Instead they just split up like that without even giving a reason or any explanation. They pretty much tried to recreate the betrayal and hatred and losing everything and being weak the shield hero had the first season via asspull (everyone's literally reset to level 1 with no skills), then instead of even really having to work to get strong again it's not even really explained how everyone just suddenly gets mega pumped from a few low level trash mobs, and more asspulls than is even reasonable for a single season. Hell, more asspulls than would be acceptable for a 10 season show throughout the entire course of its run. It seems to me they just set everything up to just piss the viewer off without even thinking it through how it makes no freakin' sense whatsoever. At this point I may give a few episodes of season 3 a chance but if it's remotely as bad as this season I'm immediately dropping it and never touching it again. For that matter if you feel like you need to watch this season because you liked the first season, don't bother. Nothing of any importance takes place in this season. One event that doesn't affect anything happens then the rest takes place in another world entirely not affecting the other one whatsoever. There's no character development. If anything there's character regression. You'd be better off just skipping this season entirely and continuing with season 3, provided it isn't as terrible as this season. Because I'll be honest... this season wasn't enjoyable. It just made me angry, in a not good way. Like outright character stupidity and asspulls. Like characters just standing around like absolute muppets while they should clearly be doing something as something incredibly important is happening right in front of them - you know the trope. It happens in so many shows and is so enraging it has you yelling at your screen for them to do something. But of course they're too stupid. Sooo yeah. Give this season a pass and don't bother with it. It'll only upset you and ruin your memory of the first season.

IF you had finish Season 1, i suggest you shouldn't continue on. Period. Monotonous story with 0 hype. Nothing to anticipate. The time wasted could have been use to play minesweeper and you could still enjoy it better. Trust me. Season 1: No doubt the best story that was well paced, character development was carefully thought off. Intense and alot of backstabbing which eventually leads to the MC and the viewers (ourselves) hating characters like Myne and the cardinal hero, Motoyasu Kitamura, that only uses his small brain to think instead of his big brain. Fights was well animated, and it was really hype with all the hidden twist. Season 2: In a nutshell, none of the above. Nothing to describe, because there was none. The only thing that was still in consistent was the voice actor/actress. If you want to be intrigue and spoil the good image of Season 1 "Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari", by all means, watch it. *I'm just curious when they made this 13 episodes, did they really vet it and watch it themselves?

The highly anticipated return on shield hero is here, and oh how it managed to disappoint. I really dont like bashing on anime as everyone has the anime they enjoy, however, shield hero season 2 genuinely was not good. The pacing was bad, the animation was bad, the characters felt annoying and the development they went through felt forced. Overall it was not an enjoyable time to watch this anime. However, I do understand that they had to make cuts because it was supposed to be 24 episodes, so ill cut them some slack, but it doesn't change the fact that it wasn’t that good. Art: 7 The art isn’t terrible, as I still enjoy some of the character designs and the differences between each world in the anime, however, the animation was lackluster, especially for the first half. Sound: 8 Nothing special, it had a solid sound design, but it was hard to enjoy it when the show was hard to watch especially in the first half, however, the opening and endings are good though. Characters: 6 For starters, Naofumi wasn’t as enjoyable this season. We barely received character development for the main crew minus Rishia, but when she was on screen I genuinely couldn't have been more bored in my life. Also, the villain was straight-up bad. There is one bright spot though, Kizuna was always a pleasure to watch whenever she was on screen. Story: 5 Rushed and boring. That's really it, to be honest. The pacing was pretty bad overall and because of that, watching felt boring as it was hard to get invested. Not to mention everything that was happening didn't feel that interesting, to begin with. What I will say though was that if it weren't for the second half being a little better, this rating would be a lot lower.

This second season is a real shit, compared to the first. Everything special that the anime had in this second one is taken out. The protagonist instead of being an antihero becomes a hero, the anime loses all the magic in that. He becomes good and understanding with everyone when chapters ago he was saying that he wants blood and destruction. You could defend him by saying it's character development but for what, that is, he became a generic protagonist of isekais. The real disappointment of this season if you saw the previous season don't waste your time watching this shit. On top of that, the new characters that it includes are rubbish except for one or two but the rest is pure filler, what do you say why the hell they put this one? Do yourself a favor and don't watch this season it's so mediocre.

English. What a most disappointing second season, the beginning was one of the most bad and boring beginnings of the season that I have seen, I really did not feel that the series reached something, but after that first part everything is improving quite well, I don't think it is the best path that the series could take but it was a path that gives it a quite fun and interesting plot twist, I think that the series did drop a tremendous drop in quality that was quite evident, the animation did not go down but neither did the story She herself knows where to go or where they want to go, it was a world that doesn't know what it wants to do or how it wants to do it. We still don't know what caused all the waves and I don't think we'll know for a while since that's the mystery. main part of the series, if it's worth watching I think just a little and only the second part, from then on the first chapter is just so you know what will happen in the season, from there I'll go to 6 or 9 to continue from There, from chapter 2 to 5, it's not worth it in my opinion or I get very bored. A second season that I don't recommend so much but if you already saw the previous one you can also see it, it's not good at all until after the first part and from then on it improves little by little.
crystalizedpig
It's a 25-episode season crammed into 13, with the budget for 6. Obstacles are frequently ass-pulled or hand-waved away. The few action scenes that happen on-screen are crudely animated/choreographed, especially in the second half. Characters are afforded no time for development; the BBEG's motivation is relegated to a few quick flashbacks. The whole season feels directionless without S1's revenge plotline driving it. Finally, the last episode is a pseudo-recap, largely shoehorning in scenes from episodes which were presumably cut after the scene was finished, and including multiple loli-bait scenes. I liked most of S1, but now my hope for S3 onward is tenuous.

Unfortunately, the second season of shield hero is quite a bit worse than the previous installment. In comparison to the first series the plotline is more stagnant, and it feels like many sections of it are "just going through the motions" with the rest of the isekai genre. This is especially true for the first 6 or 7 episodes of the season. While the later episodes of the season are better, it hardly makes up for the poor start that the season had. I would only really consider watching this if you are really invested in the characters or if the upcoming third season ends up being outstanding. To be clear I would not consider anything in this season "bad", but if you are looking for a compelling plot there is a swath of similar anime that you could watch instead with better plotlines.

Overall, lackluster. I was interested to see if they could capture and maintain the same energy from season 1… they did not. Each episode it became more and more apparent that the series was traveling down the pipeline of a stereotypical isekai. On one hand without the revenge-arc driving the plot, there wasn’t much more growth for the series. On the other hand, there didn’t seem to be a device the writer could use to renew those same feelings without feeling tacky or overdone. Not quite the degree of fall-off that the Promised Neverland had, but still markedly disappointing. The visuals fell short, which is always disappointing to see (hahaha) in the anime medium and the fantasy genres which allows so much freedom and potential for grandiose images. Instead of diving deep into character development, they opted to just continuously add more forgettable characters (the majority of which, seem to be lending themselves to MC’s eventual harem). Hats off to them for somehow still managing to include slave justification when NOBODY was asking for it. Shield Hero Season Two was a disappointment. Personally, for me to watch season three, it will have to come heavily suggested by friends along with a promise that the fan-service ceases.

This season is not a continuation of the initial revenge arc that started the series out, and that's fine because it sets in motion the bigger picture and develops the world more than the first season did as well as fleshing out and giving the characters growth and development that lacked greatly in the initial season 1 premier. The flow of the overall story line is well done and thought out, even if at times can be a bit obvious. There are a lot of played out tropes as well that honestly could have been left out and not done any injustice to the overall presentation. However this season develops the world more and delves deeper into the lore and presents the larger mystery that is the engine that drives the story as a whole. While most people feel that it lacked in presentation I would kindly disagree and say that it adds more and builds more presenting a more rounded look at what the author is build. A must remember is that this story isn't an all-in type and has to be taken as a whole not a sum of it's parts. It does help to watch the complete entirety of S1 and S2 together in my opinion. Overall I would definitely recommend and caution to see the story as a whole and not as single continuous arc, because it isn't.
