I love the 12 episode comedy series that come out every season, but I have never loved one this much. The show draws you in with an original funny premise, a dad who tries to hide that he is a semi-famous manga artist, but soon you fall in love with what truly makes this show special. This goes above the normal comedy series in so many ways, the fantastic side characters who all add something to the show, the fantastically paced emotional beats that keep you wanting answers, but more than anything else the relationship between Hime and her dad. That relationship is what makes the show, I have never seen the love a parent has for a child so perfectly shown than in this show. Everything Goto does is for Hime and you understand that all he wants is for her to have the best life possible. It wraps the whole show in this blanket of wholesomeness and warmth. I love shows that after you finish them you become sad because you know there is no anime out there that will give you this feeling as strongly, and this show has that. The comedy of this show is hard to speak to because of how much people's tastes vary, but to me, the show had a brilliant combination of situational comedy and slapstick. The show also has a very good way of baking the comedy into the plot so it doesn't feel like the show shifts between plot and comedy, but instead, it's all mixed together which gives a feeling of flow that other shows lack. I cannot speak for anyone else but I frequently found myself laughing out loud several times an episode and I cannot give higher praise than that. Those things on top of the fantastic artwork that gives the show a distinct style. You know a show is fantastic when your biggest complaint is that the music, outside of the perfect opening and ending, could be slightly more memorable. Watching this show weekly made me worry that the ending wouldn't be very satisfying. That is usually my main complaint with most comedy series, but this delivered then delivered on the final episode. I almost cried for 20 minutes straight during the last episode because of how truly beautiful it was. I love this show and I would recommend it to anyone because this really is special.

Kakushigoto, or My Dad's Secret Ambition, like my secret ambition in writing anime reviews. Don't tell my mom. Of course, Spoiler warning kids. Spoooooilllllllerrrrrsssss. Let's go, alright, Kakushigoto is honestly quite enjoyable. First impressions are always important and when I first saw the poster I initially had in mind a serious, drama and a hint of mystery. Nope, I was off by the most part when I when into the first episode. I'm not sure if you get where I am coming from but my first impression of the show was 'what?'. I'll admit the first time I saw this I was slightly confused like I did not expect that uplifting and very cheerful mood that the show gave off. Because in the first few minutes of starting episode, we were thrown into this serious tragic scenario. Definitely the sound of the OST during the scene already gave off that sad tone. But what came after which is the rest of the episode was such a juxtaposition from the serious scenes that it was almost frightening. But of course, with more episodes, we start to piece together the puzzle. That we are not just watching two different scenarios with two drastically different moods, we are watching two timelines which is cool. Honestly, my fear for this series at first was due to the humour. Not going to lie this is a very well written show but from past experiences with other animes, that does such a bad job transitioning from sad scenes to funny scenes. To be more clearly series that have comedic and dramatic elements to it do such a bad job on making the experience enjoyable. Unlike this show, Kakushigoto. What Kakushigoto does an amazing job is drawing a fine line of what scenes should be funny and what should be serious. Like it's so obvious, the ending part is the serious part. But with this, you don't get that annoying sensation of getting bounced around from funny scenes straight to sad scenes. It's a very clear yet neat way of presenting the show which I admire. Plus with each episode ending off with scenarios from the future just urges the viewers to want to know more. It's not a clickbait ending (obviously) but it's a smart way of trying to get the viewers (such as myself) to want more. That's nice. Other pretty good things about this are the characters that it presents. I'll admit not all characters are super in-depth, but all of them feels right. Like all of them feels like where they belong and not out of place or unnecessary at all. All of them just breathes a layer of depth in the world that is Kakushigoto which is truly amazing. Of course, the jokes. How can I forget about the jokes. While a chunk of it is misunderstanding scenarios, I'm going to focus more on the manga artist position. Not going to lie they are well written and funny. Yes, they are mainly aiming at manga artist but I get the jokes and I actually learnt quite a bit of the harsh life of manga artist. It's funny but also kind of interesting unironically. Definitely, I'm sure you learnt something from this as well. -SCORES- Character- 8/10: Gotou-san is such a good character, he's funny, he's direct, he's likeable. Hime is such an angel we need to protector at all cost, maybe until she gets older. Tomaruin is a dick in a good way and the G-Pro staff like Sumita, Kakei, Shiji and Keshi are all fine characters. Plus we have the ones outside of the studio like Nadila, Hime's friends and teacher, plus Gotou-san's side chicks and of course, Mario (he looks like Bruno Buccellati though) Art- 7/10: While more could be wished for, it does a fine job of delivering the actions, emotions and doings of the characters well. Simple yet minimalistic, it has its own charm. It's really different from other anime and the animes studio Ajia-Do does. It's unique. Writing- 7/10: Just a decent job on the writing, while I feel nothing is groundbreaking or like mindblowing. It does a good job on the jokes and scenarios. Sound- 7/10: While I am not blown away by the intro, it's nice of course but the outro just steals it for me. It's literally a Christmas song in June! Cool. The OST does its job as well. Overall, I didn't really have high expectations at first due to the weird starting episode but as I watched more and more it actually paints a much bigger picture. While nothing groundbreaking it's certainly an enjoyable watch. Plus that ending was such a sweet touch like Tomaruin said 'it's cliche' but a sweet moment nevertheless. Strong 7

My only complain about this show, is that it is only 12 episodes long, so the ending can feel a little bit rushed (it concludes most of the story, but it makes more progress in the last 4 minutrs of the last episode than the average slice of life anime in 3 seasons, and I dint say this as an insult to slice of life). Other than that the anime has a great and touching story, with nice comedic elements sprinkled troughout. It will definitely piece your heart together, thank break it ind the last usually 4 minutes of each episode, and then build it again, just to make you cry, usually tears of happiness at the final episode.

I struggled between 7 and 8 on this one, but the obvious passion the creators have for the series pushed it over the edge. Their care takes an otherwise slightly generic premise and plot and makes it interesting. The main part of each episode consists of actually funny antics revolving around keeping secrets from Hime, childhood misunderstandings, and jabs at the manga industry. The producers also set a lot of time aside for heartwarming interactions between Hime and her dad. Each episode is capped with a look into a darker future, which is the focus of the final episode. This anime is well balanced between comedy and tragedy. The art is also split between serviceable character models and surprisingly detailed backgrounds (one night sky nonchalantly has an accurate rendition of the Orion constellation, including a correctly colored Betelgeuse). The tone is a blend of sweet and comedic, with just a dash of darkness. The serious side of the plot is a bit rushed, given that it is largely crammed into one episode. However, the characters really save the show. They are all distinct, and the love between Hime and her father seems real and justified. Everyone would enjoy this anime, although I think fans of child-raising anime and realistic comedy will love this. This is significantly better than most shows I've seen.

So I'm not sure how did I end up watching this anime, cause I'm usually not into slice of life ,but I really loved it .The characters were all well made and I believe they played their part pretty well, I could also feel the distinct relationship between father and daughter and it was truly magnificent. I really loved the idea of showing a part of the future at the end of each episode and I think that's something that can make someone more interested on the show.I'm pretty satisfied with the ending and it's important to mention that each and every episode was really enjoyable So I guess if anyone wants a funny and short slice of life story that's a pretty good option

episode 1-11 full gag and shitty jokes episode 12 masterpiece art looks like vocaloid MV, character development is bad, can't enjoy the show from ep 1-11.. too much re-use jokes and pun.. i don't want give this show 6, maybe 4 or 3.. but last episode helped this show.. until the end, they didn't show full story of her mother.. what we need is the story of her mother missing, goto's relationship with his father-in-law, and hime talk about her mother.. too much useless manga jobs jokes and probably nobody remember goto's staff names and other characters.. and we didn't need to watch episode 1-11 to understand what happened.. watch episode 12 alone is enough to find out what happen and its sum total 12 episode.. like episode 10 or 11 is totally hollow.. just talking about meeting place.. and i don't think its funny.. like tomaruin in the well, horror-comedy jokes not funny.. or kidzanira episode is boring.. i know they trying to make it happy, happy, sad plot like your lies in april.. but totally fail.. this show is boring, not funny, tired, want drop this, and finally episode 12 give us what we want.. but its the end.. we want more story like episode 12.. we want more story about what happen after he quit being mangaka.. we want they show us goto's sad face when his jobs revealed.. i think, plot like below is better : ep 1-3 = about happy family between hime and goto ep 4-8 = goto's jobs revealed, goto hiding his retirement from hime, continue working without hime find out what happens ep 9-11 = goto got accident, hime need to live alone, hime found out her dad's jobs ep 12 = goto come back from amnesia and more dramatic ending what they give us is : ep 1-11 = happy family ep 12 = recap what happen to goto like revealed, quit his jobs, got accident, amnesia, come back its suck they wasting time for 11 episode and suddenly rushing for final episode..

I don't usually cry watching anime, but this anime made me fucking cry. I entered this anime expecting a comedy slice of life series revolving the gimmick of the two characters and I was not disappointed by that, I did think the non linear plot was a nice touch to it. I did not expect to be so emotionally attached to the characters that it'd make me care about the father daughter relationship so much by the end of the series. We don't get a lot of shows like this so I appreciate it for the work it did. On the flip side, if there was anything I had to pick out that wasn't good is that the side characters are so damm boring, and the jokes are pretty hit or miss. Also the last couple episodes felt way too forced. 8/10 Overall I found this anime a huge breath of fresh air, and there were some moments where I felt that the father daughter dynamic really stood out from other anime, also Hime is way too cute like wtf.

Don't let the summary fool you, its not going to be Ecchi, or erotic anime. I was browsing for some wholesome or heartwarming anime when I found this, and it was completely different from what I thought it was. Story: 7/10: The story follows a single father, taking care of his daughter, while also trying to hide the fact that he draws and writes manga for a living because he had wrote an Ecchi Manga before his daughter was born. The danger is really overplayed which makes it humorous. Its probably not going to get a laugh out of you most of the time, but at times it can get a chuckle. Each episode has a set of situations where the father is desperately trying not to be seen by his daughter, putting him into wacky, awkward, and all around goofy problems. The pacing doesn't follow a set plan most of the time, but that doesn't get in the way of the episodes or your enjoyment. Art: 6/10: Its not really prominent in the art department. Its not anything you'd see in a Studio Ghibili film or an animation from Wit or Ufotable. Its pretty simple in its design, with characters faces not being over detailed, and having little features on their face. But that's not to say its bad. Its not a high budget anime, neither was it very popular, so their was no need for amazing animation, its just standard. Sound: 7/10: I don't really have anything to say, its pretty run of the mill, no great scores, or amazing voice acting, just pretty good and standard for the anime. Characters: 7/10The characters are what keeps the show running, the situations the father gets into, are what gets the show running, but the characters are what keeps it running. They each have their own role, usually playing the same part in every episode. So theirs not a lot of variety in what the characters do, but still, pretty good. Enjoyment: 7/10: Its a very standard, mainstream comedy anime that we probably have too much of. Its very run of the mill and the idea has already been many times before. It doesn't really stand out, but its not bad by any means. Overall: 7/10

Now You may think that I gave this a high rating, you know a ten? but let me just tell you why. The reason I gave this a ten is because it's not trying to be something it's not, this anime is supposed to be something that makes you laugh and is interesting, it's supposed to tell you a story of a dad who is a somewhat popular manga artist and he is trying to keep the fact he makes dirty manga a secret from his daughter. And boy does it do that, not only that it does it do that it adds more. With the ending being perfect and the jokes actually being funny, and the art style is amazing, the opening song is amazing and it excels at more. It adds a little mystery aspect to the anime as the end of each episode which I won't spoil. This anime is just a masterpeice at what it's supposed to be. It took my mind off my personal problems, it took my mind off of the sad ass anime I love to watch, it did all of that with it just being amazing. I really recommend this to anyone becuase its just amazing.

I think Kakushigoto might be an anime that's easily slept on, even considering the lack of anime that has been produced during 2020. Bursting with colour and beautiful music I think Kakushigoto has a wonderful feeling to it like no other. I don't know whether its the relatable characters or the interesting plot but something about this anime makes me just feel good. If you're looking for a feel-good anime that has lots of colour, music, jokes, and especially heart, then I would recommend this to you. The story is the only thing that is just below the level of quality of everything else, but I think it serves as a correct format to show and develop the connection between Hime and her father Kakushi the fabled manga artist. Giving a preview into Hime's present life at the start of each episode certainly kept me interested in where the series would end and how the main conflict would be resolved. Overall I give Kakushigoto a 9/10 and would highly recommend you watch it, if not just to feel good.

A solid 8/10 It was thrilling, different, and comedic. It wasnt just tearjerking at every turn, they really tried to make it the daily life struggle of a the dad trying to hide his profession from his cute daughter. They really thought outside the box. The issue I have is that the ending was just kinda all jumbled and rushed. They spent so much time playing out his daily struggles and at the end they tried to kind of fit all of the actual story in and it just felt rushed. It felt more like they just wanted to add a tear jerker in there so they put the ending together that way which took away from the show. still enjoyed it!

everyone has their own secret, including me To Be Honest, i'm not to expect anything about this anime, flow like river, yea that's something that i can say, from the beginning of this anime, love the story about how father that love his daughter so much, and this make me realize that how big my parent love to me, little bit cry to watch this anime. They mixed it with some comedy and slice of life to make sure this anime is enjoyable. day by day, work hard for someone that important, someone that u love most, that's how the main character sacrifice. In the end, this anime really touch my heart.

To sum it up: A single father tries to hide secrets and his occupation from his daughter to "keep" her happy. My Review: Kakushigoto means "hidden things" this anime shows that there is no text book to raising children, and that there is a different side to parents and certain events in the past that they hide. The OP and ED are fantastic, reading the lyrics of the song and watching it you can determine what the anime is mostly about. Story is fantastic overall, it follows two timelines. The past follows the father raising his daughter while keeping his occupation hidden from her and more secrets you will see later on. The present follows the daughter discovering their family's past and the effects of the father's actions. Foreshadowing is present in almost every episode, early on it misleads most of the people watching, but cleared up later on. The transition to the ending feels unnatural especially if you can't read Japanese as there is foreshadowing in some of the text you see. Art is great overall, this is one of the anime's strongest and weakest point IMO. There are two art styles for the anime, the past has lighter colors and is less detailed(Indicating that the past was seen as "happier" times), while the present has heavier colors and is more detailed (indicating that the present is more "serious"). The past art style allowed for more comedic and light hearted scenes but didn't allow dramatic and serious scenes, vice versa for the present art style. Sound is great but is balanced out for the present having more intricate sound design than the past just being simple. The father and the daughter are fantastic characters however the side characters feel shallow and some of the are just for comedy and are disposed later on. It was fantastic overall and I ultimately really enjoyed going through the episodes.

As someone who hasn't read the manga, this show was a show I enjoyed a decent amount. I never felt a pull to watch it though. Nothing made me feel as if I absolutely had to continue watching it and seeing what was up ahead. The show simply exists and has pleasant moments for those that want them. I think it really falls apart at the final episode. It definitely can evoke feelings and provides more closure to the series than most slice-of-life animes ever get for a finale, but it comes out of left field as a viewer and introduces a bunch of elements last second that left me spending more time trying to think about if the show alluded to any kind of facts like these or if it really was just last-second bullshit. I would recommend this show, however, simply for having what I am dubbing the Pino Factor. Have you seen Ergo Proxy? Cool. If not, there's a character in there named Pino. Essentially just the adorable companion to the main character. Hime is this show's Pino. I adored every moment with Hime and her character and relationship with her father is brought together in a wholesome and pure way which is equal parts cute and funny. Watch this show for the wholesomeness. Turn your mind off and enjoy the clever sub-plots and the relatively clean humor. It's a perfectly fine anime. But it's not a classic. I wouldn't even say it's really good. It's just fine. And that's something we should all be okay with.

I love stories about parent child relationships. I am aware that they always are in some way unrealistic and idealized, but they provide me with a pure joy I do not feel with other emotionally driven stories like for example romance. Kakushigoto's fundamental story about a single father raising his daughter is wonderful and whenever the show focuses on it, it is masterfully executed. But Kakushigoto of course is about more than this. It is the story of a dirty comedy mangaka juggling his day-to-day work and his care for his daughter while hiding his true occupation. This takes up the majority of the show's runtime and is largely entirely comedic. Unfortunately the humour in Kakushigoto largely falls flat for me and many times did I sit through an episode not out of enjoyment of the scene to scene events, but purely in hopes of getting to watch another interaction between Hime and Kakushi, to get another piece of their relationship. Regarding the audiovisual presentation, I did enjoy the animation and character designs, particularly Gotou Kakushi. He is a very refreshingly non-stereotypical, neither "proper manly" nor "nerdy otaku", but a very likeable and relatable normal person. I can not really comment on the audio, but I loved the ending theme ("Kimi wa Tennenshoku"). Ultimately Kakushigoto suffers from the common problem with anime that try to combine a emotional/serious story with light-hearted comedy, that being a poor management of tone. When a show repeatedly flips it's tone mid-scene, it is difficult for the viewer to open up emotionally. At least that is the case for me.

"Dad. I turned eighteen." Kakushigoto is such a wholesome series revolving around Goto-sensei and Hime-san, a father-daughter comedy series where Goto hides his job as an erotic manga author from 10 year old daughter Hime in order to avoid being an embarrassment of a parent to her and everyone around her as she grows up. Story: 8/10. Kakushigoto does well to generate light hearted comedy among a casual slice of life environment. Using Goto and Manga as an artisic medium to connect the characters and story isn't unique but when combined with sheltering the 'secret' from an unsuspecting daughter - It becomes a ticking time bomb. (in an intense positive sense) As it was releasing, I dropped in to watch but now that it has finally ended and on an amazing note I can safely say it was a nice watch. Art & Sound: 7/10 & 9/10. The art style and color schemes are synonymous to watercolor and have a hand-drawn feel to it which is a perfect decision for the topic of the series and its stakeholders. The pastel color tones produce a dreamy atmosphere which is atypical to general anime series but it is one of the many appealing characteristics that makes this series such an amazing series. This is one of the better series that coordinate its soundtracks to provoke emotional connections, the ending scene where Goto finally recognizes Hime had the series OST "Chiisana Hibi - Flumpool" cut in after Hime gives her dialogue. Very emotional stuff... Character: 7/10. Character development was more-or-less the least emphasized which makes sense because kakushigoto is skit-by-skit based which includes the main events instead of filler content. This meant character personalities were deliberately developed and shaped as the story progressed. Overall, impressed with the climax character development - it was a surprise to have a bit of drama in the final episode and it occurring in the future. Very Appealing. Enjoyment: 7/10. Not much 'action' but compromised with hilarious comedy from characters bashing the prestigious 'editor' who nearly jeopardized the secret several times throughout the series.

I found this series very cute, but without a lot of depth. The story was relatively simple and cliched, which really cut down on the enjoyment. The basic premise of the story is that the main character has a young daughter and is an erotic gag manga artist, which he is trying to keep secret from his daughter. The wife/mother is not in the picture (why she is missing is revealed at the end of the series, and is also very cliched). While I loved the relationship between the dad and his daughter, I had a lot of difficulty "buying in" to the premise of the story. I just really didn't understand why the father felt so strongly about keeping his profession a secret from his daughter, and it made the tension in the story feel very artificial. My favorite parts were the scenes featuring Hime (the daughter) and the Kakushi's manga assistants, who were very funny. I wish there had been more about the assistants, but they really weren't featured that much. Each episode features a "flash-forward" to when Hime is eighteen, and the father is missing in these scenes. That mystery is what led me to finish the series, but unfortunately the resolution to the mystery is extremely cliched and not very satisfying. Overall, the show was cute but not really much more than that.

Going into this anime after recognizing the style from Zetsubou Sensei, I was really shocked how wholesome and relatable this was. I also dove in thinking it was going to be a regular comedy but was surprised to end it in tears of joy. As wholesome and comedic as it can be, it truly plays on real concerns and does an amazing job at balancing everything out. The characters are all funny and despite some being a little more memorable than others, Goto-sensei and Hime-chan will always be unforgettable. Every moment the two spent with each other was so heartwarming and wholesome that it made me wish there was a whole anime based on just the two. Overall, this is an amazing anime and I'd highly recommend it.

This anime is one of the most emotional ones I have come across so far. It's made me cry at almost every episode (how does one even make an anime like that!) and still makes you feel good. It's simple, yet so pure that it makes you want to both laugh and cry at the same time. The humour is excellent, it makes you laugh like a maniac at times. The soundtrack is amazing and definitely one to add to your playlist. The art is superb as well, as expected from a seasonal anime. When I initially started this, it didn't seem as interesting, but in the end, turned out to be really fun. Must watch if you are looking for something light, emotional and want to feel good.

This was the only anime this season that I decided to wait until it's completed with its twelve episodes so i could watch it in one go and i'm so glad i waited. Kakushigoto is a warm, slice-of-life and light-hearted anime that helps you take a pause in your current life. Watching from the perspective of a loving father, we are able to see for ourselves what is the definition of "parental love" and what kind of responsabilities being a parent is. Each episode, we see notable memories from the past that the main characters cherish and behind the curtains, we get glimpses of the present that conveys mystery and melancholy. Definitely a great way to catch the viewers' attention for the great final episode. This manga adapted series is made for us to appreciate the relationship between a father and a daughter and see the struggles that both of them face. Children tend to think in a simple way to solve an issue and adults think further and make complex plans to ease their life. We treasure Hime's innocence and we admire Kakushi's strength as a solo parent. Definitely recommend you to watch this. It's such an engaging anime with characters that you'll love. It's an anime that not only it's entertaining but also makes you reflect about your daily life. The comedy will make you smile gently and you'll feel wholesome at the end. 8/10
