Kimi wa Kanata
君は彼方

I wasn't initially gonna write a review for this, but since the naming convention of this film was the one that fancied my senses, I should at least give my 2 cents to say that this film made by one person: the infamous Yoshinobu Sena who did the "so bad, it's bad" Vampire Holmes, how does Kimi no na wa...ahem, sorry, Kimi no Kanata fare against many others who did the same thing? In one word: NO. In more words: HELL NO. Please do not waste your time on this film just because the film title just cringes you on it being the vastly inferior product to the movies that inspired the creation of this wishy-washy movie. Story and plot is superbly unoriginal and contrived, characters are hella one-note deficiencies for infodump and nothing else, sound is just poor too. The movie funnily enough, makes you feel like you're watching a Direct-to-TV film that's not even Disney-like quality with Digital Network Animation's (for short, DNA, which I'd bet that the 23 pairs of chromosomes are all connected in disparity) alright but poor to at best, decent visuals. Save your 95 mins of time and watch 4-5 TV anime episodes or a film that'd make your time more useful. This is a piss-poor worthy cringe film.

It's not bad but not too good either. It's a very chill movie that you watch some afternoon to pass the time and it's nice to see. (+) The animation is decent and it feels cute and positive. They added some fantasy. The romance is also adorable but the reasons they have issues are for dumb reasons. (-) The plot lacks so many extraordinary features, the characters are too generic, they tried to add something supernatural with some character but at the end it's irrelevant. Just a passing dream. Not intriguing, not exciting. Even with the darkest and the most melancholic mood I think that I wouldn't be too attached to this. At least it has a passing score.

*Light spoilers ahead* TLDR Below. Imagine having Your Name combined with The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, stretch it infinitely long, and mix 1 or 5 genres of your choice. You get this mess. This excruciatingly long boring mess of just silly characters with melodrama that doesn't even fit the frame it is presenting. I must stress there is nothing wrong with generic titles. Not everything has to be innovative of the past, a push of simplicity is beautiful anyway, but quality matters regardless. KimiKana doesn't even understand that basic fact. Story's out here having a bigger identity crisis than Bloom Into You, seriously, this turns into a Disney musical halfway through with some action sequences to follow on. The only important character here is Mio, you can forget anything to do with Arata, the dude doesn't even take at least half of the screen time, but apparently, he is a very important person (you can tell because he has superpowers). There are also people who you won't care about having relationship ties as if we've seen 20 episodes of this nonsense before. Just one big ambitious mess. I have to give praise to the audiovisuals though, well, for the trailer, because that is one of the reasons I watched this. Everything in the movie does not correlate to the trailer. It is just basic plain budget-cutting stuff you see in mid-tier seasonals, which, doesn't mean it is bad, but doesn't mean it is unique or anything to praise. This movie probably has one of the few times where I can say something has "bad audio", in the sense that the use was bad not the actual sound that I could hear. I am going to have some very strong words with Sena Yoshinobu for allowing me to know some wild direction could even exist. Anyways, this was too boring for me to enjoy, chances are it will be the same for you. I will give it praise in that the only thing I liked about this was the flamboyant moments and the wholesomeness that draws later on. Other than that, I don't recommend watching this one. Watch the two titles mentioned prior. Your Name for a good supernatural drama. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time for life lessons that are actually coherent. TLDR: The movie is a mess of story and characters you don't really care about. Audiovisuals are mid. So everything adds up to be boring as hell but has some good flamboyant scenes. ---- I have to say I was eager to watch KimiKana anyway. In addition to a hot trailer, the lack of talk from it was something that made me more interested in it, plus some said it was bad so I had to verify that myself. My curiosity is satisfied however and I have to say, even though it was just bad, I am happy to have seen it anyway.

I just finished watching this shit, it's a waste of time. I was expecting a romantic drama, with a love triangle, but instead they put mystical powers on you. And feelings that you don't say ??? I don't think the movie is good at all. If you can not see it, it is a total farewell. The animation is not bad but hopefully well it is a movie, the music is very bad. At one point there is some music and the protagonist thinks that this is Disney and half that breaks the meaning of the movie. It is a why? After the character design is very flat, the development of them also never empathize with them. It's like die please, you don't know what you feel. Very bad the movie, do not waste your time watching it, greetings to the administrators.

It was July 2020, I was just starting watching anime and exploring MAL and found a movie that looked very promising. It looked similar to Your Name, which I loved, so I wanted to give it a try. I waited patiently until the release, in November. The day thay movie aired... nothing happened. Not the day after, not in a week, not for a long time. "It was badly received" "It was only showed two times on cinemas" "Rakuten only sells it raw and within Japan" was what I could see from different pages and the official website. I was losing all hope until some days ago I happened to look for it again. And to my great surprise, it was there, it was not fake. So I decided to watch it at night yesterday, which I did. Was it worth to look for it so much? Let's find out. *SPOILERS AHEAD* Story: 6.5/10 - The story centers arround Mio and Arata, the typical childhood confession and an accident that transported her to a parallel world. So far so good. What happens then is a very rare mix of everything possible. A colourful world with spirits reincarnated on things she remembered, her worst fears personified in giant monsters that chased her for the entire world and a lot, really lot of metaphoric uses. All of this which would have been perfect if there weren't so many plot holes and, mainly, non-explained things. Especially at the end. But hey, we won, right? Dale campeón. Art: 8.5/10 - As most movies that inspired in beautiful works like Your Name and A Silent Voice, Kimi wa Kanata has amazing landscape design. Each of the scenarios were beautifully drawn, and you could feel they were very inmersive. Also the character design were very charming and easy to like. Animation was fine, being great at little things like Mio's moving hair and fair at moments like her flight over the fish. An overall great thing that with a little more budget could have been even more amazing. Sound: 8.5/10 - Soundtrack was also something very special. All the orchesta was very nice and according to the movie. And both songs, To You (Mio's song) and Shunkan Dramatic (Ending) were incredible. I'm even listening to Shunkan Dramatic in loop as I write this. This is the part that creates great memories, and they achieved it by a lot. Character: 7/10 - Not very amazing but still nice. Mio and Arata were the typical two main characters that everyone like, and then we had the different supporting characters and the main 'antagonist' (was it one though?). They made the movie enjoyable without shining too much. Fair enough. Enjoyment: 8/10 - Being extremely strange and without sense for some times doesn´t make it less enjoyable. Even more, it makes it even better sometimes as I already knew this could be like that and wanted to feel something like this. I´m glad to find another 'falopity' show, those anime so strange that make you wonder about everything in their world. Overall: 7.5/10 - I don't really know how much to score this. I feel a 6 is definitively low, a 7 misses something but an 8 is too much for a movie that was so inconsistent for moments. Maybe I will give it an 8 in support for the movie, as 6.55 rating is not fair at all. But the real score for me is 7.50. Story: 6.5/10 Art: 8.5/10 Sound:8.5/10 Enjoyment:8/10 Character: 7/10 Overall: 7.5/10 --> 8/10 Should you watch it? Yeah, it's a very nice movie. Was it worth the wait? I would say YES.

I honestly don't understand why people hate the film so much. It's honestly solid. Yes, it has its faults but I was genuinely invested throughout the film. Though I wish it had featured more romance between the two leads and felt somewhat rushed in the beginning, I'd still recommend this film. It was a decent film that did it's job, even if it the idea itself was unoriginal. I guess people don't like seeing relationships that are genuine or they're just reminded of their own past, hence why they call it trash and a waste of time (probably reminiscent of their own lives). All that aside, I'd definitely watch it again.

The title and image cover looked really pleasing, and as I really enjoyed really similar (from cover) animes like "Kimi no na wa" or "Hello World" I decided to give a try this movie, even though reviews were really harsh. And sadly they happened to be true. Nothing adds to the story and overall, so I will divide the story into 3 parts: beginning, middle of the movie, and end. The beginning doesn't necessarily feel bad. The art is decent, the overall introduction to the story is okay. At this point, I thought it will be another enjoyable show. I don't know what happened to this movie in its middle. It's either beyond my understanding of the anime, or it is one of the worst plots I've ever seen. Everything that happens is really weird. The vibe is completely off, you just don't feel enjoyment watching this for some reason. The ending appeared to be pretty okay, but turned out bad, without any emotions - the characters are just bland. The whole story feels rushed, without any sense, the viewer can hardly know what's going on with the whole story, everything is just not right there. Art and sound are just a hit and miss every time. Art feels really good at the beginning (kind of reminds you of Kimi no na wa and other great shows), but during the movie, you can tell it's just a cheap copy. There are moments when you say "dude this art is just awful" and there are moments when it feels really nice. I can't tell why it is like that. Characters? They are just existing. Their expressions and emotions are so off. Everyone in this movie looks dead inside (as well as me when I'm watching this). They kill the overall vibe, which is already not good. So from what I understood, the whole moral of the story is something like "live to the fullest, don't be afraid doing things in life, because you never know when will be your last day" or something like that. I feel it's not a bad idea for the movie, but the execution in Kimi wa Kanata was painfully bad. Everything in the movie feels like it would do a good show overall, but apparently, it didn't work out - a really weird feeling. If you are still wondering, should you watch this movie, you probably shouldn't, but if you want to waste over 90 minutes on watching this then go on. I can't recommend this show, I really wish it would have been done better. It just lacks many things, I can't even explain how complex is the problem of this show.

I wanted to try this movie since forever, all those reels keeps me attracted so i gave it try. First of all, plot is weak. Started pretty normal and after first part of movie it all goes down. Mc girl is afraid of taking action, always giving up before she even give it a try. That attidute hurt her love, mc guy and had negative impact on whole movie which wasnt great. Most of movie she was undecesive, then she singed all of sudden, and then screamed and cried for rest of movie. Mc guy is in love with her and giving it all to make her happy but she doesnt deserve such a great guy sticking his life for her. Fantasy part of story was lame, characters are weak, felt pretty rushed, mc girl was unlikeable and ending even tho i didnt like characters i wanted to see more but as soon everything was over, movie stopped there. One of the worst movies i ever saw. One tip: stay away. Rating is pretty accurate, could be even lower.

This movie is so bad, there is a date montage in the first few minutes. There's a song in the middle that would have been more effective if sung by a sock puppet. There is every high school slice-of-life in the books. The entire plot, like almost every second-rate HS SOL anime, is driven by the writer forcing the characters in to silence rather than blurting out even a tiny bit of their honest feelings. If this had been a standard 12-cour anime, it would have been tolerable. There would have been good places to end each week, the animation quality would have sufficed, and it might have even had some good moments. But they took the train from Spirited Away, or was it Shaft's Hanabi, and tried to make that a thing. They tried flying penguins and a flying whale. Dead people and gods and talking plush toys, all thrown in to make this A Magical Experience and argh, I am glad I watched at home where I could fast-forward through the dreck. Seriously, I stopped halfway through, watched some YouTube to cleanse my palette, and then finished. It ended exactly the way I expected. The boy's magical powers and her young girl's desire for the boy; of course that was all that was needed. As others have said: Don't waste your time. It's a dreadful movie, poorly executed, and they dared to charge theatre admission for it.

In short, I can only describe this movie as “if you took Kimi no Na wa and removed everything which makes it good”. Oh, wait? That exists already? While Kimi wa Kanata, ‘Over The Sky’, isn’t quite as appalling as Tenki no Ko in terms of the sheer quantities of random supernatural plot points pulled straight from the director’s backside (it does still have its “HOW!?” moments, though), this movie suffers from the exact same problems of main characters lacking depth (Mio was alright, but that Boy was just your standard cardboard cutout love interest), side characters who essentially add nothing to main story, and an average teenage romance subplot which steals FAR TOO MUCH screen time from the potentially interesting mystical elements (hence the overwhelming lack of logic and explanations throughout the film). No spoilers on the specifics, but I was prepared to give this a 5/10 until the movie decided it was a good idea to pull what is essentially the “it was all a dream” trope out in the final act, showing that our main girl somehow suffered exactly zero lasting consequences whatsoever from a life-threatening injury because “mAgiC”. The animation and insert song were fine but nothing to write home about - probably a good thing, since I have a particular hatred towards movies which try to hide their dumpster fire, plot-hole ridden, incomplete stories by dumping an obscene amount of money into the visuals and soundtrack (*cough* this is still infinitely better than the aforementioned 2019 Shinkai film *cough*). Overall, if you’re like me and looking for supernatural elements with good explanations, stay far away from this one. However, if you just wanted a cute romance story and aren’t that bothered about the overarching magic, maybe you’ll like this more than I did.

Okay I'll try to be fast First, it's an imitation of Spirited Away Art: That's a offense to any proper artists in general, backgrounds don't combine with the characters, the effects are bad(<---focus in the "BAD"), and that bunny don't combine with nothing, it's an poor made design History: Generic, character development is bad, if you hit a tree 10 animes like that falls, they tried to do something different and its just strange Scenes: Oh my god it's horrible the dialogues are so bad they stop like 1 minute in the same close and open mouth scenes, the characters don't seen to be alive IT'S SO STRAAAANGE, looks like an Indian film I watched before I'm so mad and yeah that's it I only hated this thing, my mom hated it too

This story was brilliant and fantastical in two words (brilliant in the sense of brilliance). The fantasy-esque animations were amazing, and the soundtrack was absolutely gorgeous. I've rarely found anime's that can pair sound, visuals, and stories in a way that 君は彼方 did. The story was much more intense at times than the typical boy meets girl tragedy anime's (no spoilers). Yet still more beautifully inspiring than the "Fantasy hero conquers" Isekai anime's. It was awesome (of awe, not "awesome sick") A beautiful combination of isekai, fantasy, and drama. I see a lot of negative reviews, to which I beg you to throw aside and watch it regardless. I thought I wouldn't enjoy it given those reviews. I assumed I'd just watch it anyway and get on with my life after the 95 minutes. Instead, I sit here, stained cheeks, writing my only MAL review. I've seen most of the tearjerker Anime's, but it has been so long since I have found one that moved me this much. I will honestly keep this as one of my most cherished anime's next to Garden of Words. Please watch it. <3

OMG, this identity crisis that this movie has can't be described in words. It doesn't know what its trying to be - Isekai, Rom-Com, Slice of Life, Supernatural, Pile of utter sh*t..? I don't simply know. The main story revolves around this girl that can't confess her feelings. That's it. even to the end, they just mute it out, leaving the viewer in a limbo. I'd say the animation isn't bad, but that's about where my praise ends. Your time is better served watching "hentai" than this pile of thrash. The End The paragraph below is written to adhere to the guidelines of "review length" on this platform, reading is unnecessary. eenie, meenie mine moe..

Oh hell. Stop sending so much hate to this movie. I spoke with some people, and they were like ''you know it's some crazy shit, they just copied The girl who lept through time'' and ''your name" ". Yes, and i will even add one more: Chihiro. It's human decency not to forget this one, please. Really, to all the people who want to watch it, i'll say it briefly: -Don't watch this movie as a movie, but a reminder of all the beautiful movies it is [copied]... inspired from. Chihiro, Your Name, The Girl who Lept through time, and others that you'll find yourself. -The ending is worth watching it, it's a light in the darkness, truly. -No one except Mio gets a true development. Thanks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In reality, i'll add some things here: - It should never have been made into a movie, i would have liked to see a better character development in all the others characters. In a TV series, aty least, even if just three episodes of one hour. -I think this movie is made only for fun, not for money, because it's too cliché to make a crazy box-office. Watching it for the memories it reminds you is the best way to part ways with "Kimi wo Kanata" with no regrets. -Mio was definitely a good character, even if it seems like an unpopular opinion. She's got a true development, the storyline was made correctly, and i could never have guessed what happened to her before they explained it. You feel like i'm extremely dumb, like, how can i appreciate a half-assed story like this ? I'm not the smallest part dumb. It's just that when i watch something, and it's rare, i try to immerse myself in the story and see what is great about it. And I'll repeat it: Even if he killed the potential of the others, the Director made Mio an incredible character, and I can only feel grateful for this. Now, i have said what i wanted to say. I'll let you read me and give a chance to this movie. Byyyyyyye !

It is like Kimi no Nawa plus Hello World feat isekai but bad There are many things that I dislike in this movie. -The animations are hit and miss. sometimes it is good sometimes it is bad like in their "not-a-date" date when it is just pictures that look likes a slideshow and when she sing, I think it is better for her not the one to sing and just a flashback since it doesn't fit well. -maybe a little bias for me here but supporting characters have much better voice acting than the main characters. -the plot is disastrous, too many unnecessary scenes and bad pacing -it is a generic story but fail at some part. it doesn't have a strong plot but the presentation of different genre mixed in the story is pretty bad like its just pretty weird to combine a romance with a bit of sci fi then add another fantasy that includes characters that looks like from an isekai story, the example is the reqiuem and them just gimon fight it like am I watching the still watching the same anime? -The sound in this movie is also average if only they decide to stick with just less genre and solid plot it can be good. it is still a nice to watch if you have so much free time but not worth watching, better look for something better.

The movie starts out as basic as any anime movie can--with a girl being hit by a car. However that is also the most exicitng part of the movie as it is all down hill from here. The main characters after the accident are 1. A Digimon 2. A Fish 3. An Old lady None of these characters have any relevance to the story other than we have seen them in pictures earlier in the movie, thats it. You are now expected to care about them, while they remain the most basic forms of charcter design. The rest of the movie drags on the same princeiple of Mio not being able to return, this is the only plot point, the movie insists on this point for the next hour. Enjoy.

It's like if Hallmark made an anime movie. He loves her, she loves him, neither can spit it out, friend admits to loving him, and then she decides to give up and let her friend have him. So she acts like a jerk to him, but then decides later she still actually wants him, and then it's just... just no. The twist you'll see coming a mile away, and the characters could be cast-offs from other seasons of other shows all mashed together. The writing, the everything, just... ugh. If you absolutely have to watch it, at least the VA is decent and the animation is okay. But everything else is just... not great. It's the equivalent of store-brand vanilla ice cream- it's still ice cream, but it just barely ice cream.

damn I just watched because of the sigma male meme. ps. don't watch it story: absolutely boring. art style: MS paint characters: no depth at all ending :not fulfilling overall this anime is quite a disappointment because I really had hopes that it would be interesting but as you can see from my review, it was bad . like straight up horrible . like there were so many easy things that could have been done to improve the movie , like fleshing out the characters more or giving a satisfying ending but nope they didn't do any of that ,instead they just slapped 30 mins of fever dream scenes that was confusing and boring . besides the horrible story and ending the visuals were appalling for an anime movie which looked like someone hired an editor from fiver and tried to put together the clips from someone drawing the scenes using MS paint and especially this can suck real bad because the poster for this movie was quite good.so all and all a bad anime compared to the others famous anime movies.

Really Great Animation, Visuals. Characters were also good and music was alright too. What it lacked was depth and seriousness. The idea was good but wasn't executed well!! It felt it was trying to do something different but a decent story wasn't even available. The main focus was on Visuals & Characters, and while they were definitely good. Those were the only things it had. But aside from two characters, other ones didn't felt like having much of an impact anyhow. It was hard to get attached to them. Like I said, good concept, visuals and Main Characters, it lacked story, dedication and seriousness. I am not the type who be just "AWW" with the visuals. The content to back it up should be there. This Anime did not have that. It's really an mid-average...
Mashiro_Hana
to be honest im quite eager to watch the story because the cover shown quite interesting and the art inside the cover looks good, the arts kinda reminds me to "your name" and "girls leap through time" BUT!! yes Big BUT!! it totally disspapointing and waste my time... so cliche and boring.. i dont get it why there's suddenly have fighting when it totally not needed.. and and im very shocked when the male main character just appeared in the dream world to save the female main character (when he go there by his soul) for ike a few minutes.. seriously??? didnt he suppose to save and protect his loved one from the monster attack but what can he do when he only appeared in the dream world for like 5 minutes? so overall my advoce is.. do not watch it
