I really wanted to enjoy this, but unfortunately it feels like this was meant to be 12 episodes and got compressed into 6. As a consequence there's no time for characters to develop, everything feels rushed, and we just get fed the story beats without any emotional weight to back it up. It’s a shame because this could have been a lot of fun, there’s a cool blend of traditional anime tropes mixed with some unique western ideas that could have really made this stand out if given a more proper treatment. The opening is incredible though and there's some cool fights.

I am so disappointed, so disappointed that I'm actually writing a review about this. I was so excited like many others for this, the names that were gonna be behind this were promising. -Mild Spoilers- Story (4): It's semi-historical with supernatural elements that are barely even explained. I found myself just sitting there during some fight scenes being like "i don't really know what's going on." There are some things that are correct with history (or so I'd assume). Then there's mechas and advanced technology but also people live in shacks and there's no electricity. The plot itself was just insufficient. I also have a problem usually but it was still apparent in this anime of not telling who is who. Like I still have some confusion on the story because of it but this is the smallest of the issues with the plot. Another big issue is the lack of reason and motivation in actions some characters take. You'll see what I mean near the end. It really felt like they took everything they liked and mushed it together. Some of the things that happen in the anime have no weight and don't matter. Like please kill off my favourite character because there is so little substance in this. The last thing I want to make note of is the comedy, it's sarcastic, almost child-like but the anime isn't meant for children. The comic relief is sort of cringe, it can be cute at times and there was a couple of times that it actually landed but it could have also been my tired state when watching this. Lastly, it doesn't take a lot for me to cry, even if I can't entirely relate but some of the scene that are suppose to be sad do not land either. The story is just a mess. Art (8): Mappa saved this, there is one scene with amazing and beautiful visuals. The animation is also great, the art style and the drawing of dark-skinned characters were also done well. Nothing really bad to say, CGI is new and it wasn't horribly done either. I do have to say that some of the large shots of the fight scene were sort of painful with the frame rates and rendering. Sound (7): I want to put it as a 6 because some of the sound effects felt so weird to me. Like early 2000s cartoon *bonks* the rest of the sound was fine. The soundtrack was great. Thundercat and Flying Lotus was a match made in heaven, the opening and closings are subjective if you like them or not. I don't have many issues besides some of the sound effects used. The VA was fine too, there were a few parts where lines didn't land but that wasn't an issue. Characters (5): The only well done character was Yasuke. The main girl has a very generic arc, nothing substantial. I get an Avatar Last Air Bender vibe a lot from this anime, I guess is work on Korra really carried over. Perhaps they could have gotten away with have no characters of substance if there was going to be more episodes to expand on them but there isn't. Most of the characters are so flat and just serve to further the plot. Enjoyment (5): The times I was laughing, I was laughing at the anime. Maybe my own commentary on the anime made me put this as a 5 instead of a 4. As listed previously there is not much to enjoy besides a few little things here and there. Overall (4): Animation, music, art, and Yasuke were the only good things. Without Mappa this would have been the worst thing I've ever seen. The story is such a mess and I feel so left in the dark about a lot of things. Characters have no substance and no drive. This seems more like a passion project, I hope he learns a lot and tries again. I really want to see improvement because this could have been so good.

Imagine biting into a visually appealing meal to realize it's nothing but sand and 15 year old gummy bears. Not only does it leave a bad taste in your mouth, but the textures are all wrong and it lingers -stuck to your teeth like noxious glue. This show is beautiful, but nothing makes sense, the character backstories they include do literally nothing for the plot, at one point I wondered if I skipped an episode because the end of one episode didn't match with the start of the next, armies appeared out of nowhere, and you never got emotional closure for literally anything. If my cat pees in my shoes tonight I'll be less upset than I was after watching this abysmally written piece of filth. The music and art were decent though. Light Samurai Champloo vibes. If only they weren't the draperies hiding a gruesome abomination of a story.

I was hyped for this anime, since I wanted to see more of my race being represented and such, but this was a huge let down. Spoiler free to my best ability Overall: 4.6 (rounded to 5) Story: 3 The story was very lacking, as the plot didn't truly kick in until maybe episode 3-4, and even then the plot was very weak. The antagonist was evil just to be evil, not much more which was a huge letdown. I know its only 6 episodes, but there was no depth at all, and I was overall bored. They used wayyy too much magic and science fiction in the story, which butchered the entire feudal Japan setting, and NOTHING at all is explained, which leaves you in the dark Art: 6 The animation in some fights were VERY nice, and I was hyped in the first 2 ish episodes, and the sakuga in some fights were beautiful, but the overall animation and art was inconsistant and average. Some sloppy and downright weird looking 3d models were used, and the mechs and such did not add any beauty or good looks to the anime. The animation was alright Sound: 7 The sound overall good, I can't really say too much about it since it matched the show, and it was really just in the background. The intro is very well done (and made by thundercat which was cool) and the outro was not bad. Nothing crazy Character: 3 This and the story have got to be the worst parts of the anime. There is NO depth, even though they try to create "sad" or emotional moments with yasuke and others around him. The only characters even worth complementing would be Yasuke and Saki, but there's barely anything redeeming about Saki. Overall flat and boring characters. Enjoymend: 5 The flashbacks which occur in the first 2 episodes were very well done and I like them, but thats where the enjoyment stops because the show over bored me and made me extremely disappointed. The quality drops as the story goes on and I was not immersed in the story, but some fight scenes got me a little hyped

This was something I guess. This anime was based on an actual person who served under Nobunaga and I would have liked to have seen that story. This anime throws in way too much of everything to try and make itself look cool. It is like that kid in class who tries to like everything that everyone else likes so they can be considered popular instead of being unique themselves. Story (5) I would have been okay with this anime just covering the actual story of Yasuke, instead we get a story of mutants, robots, and super powers. For a second I had to go back and be sure I wasn't watching some new animated X-men show. I mean it is cool but that shouldn't what makes a story interesting. It would show Yasuke's possible history in flashbacks and I think THAT should have been the story that was told. Art (8) the art is at least very well done and is impressive, especially when it comes to the fights and the Russian woman's transformation which I thought was a really well done animation. The one thing I would have changed is the dead bodies looking like they were made of red jello on the inside. Sound (7) very well done when it came to the actual sword fights and voice work was done very well for the dub I watched. Character (5) for a series called Yasuke it seems to mostly focus on other characters especially a little girl named Saki who has this world shattering power inside her and Yasuke is pretty much her body guard. Also characters come and go with almost no development to their character, probably because the creators went with a "fictional action" story instead of telling the real story about real people. Enjoyment (6) I do enjoy these types of anime that just go bat shit crazy with their ideas but when making an anime about someone from actual history, that already has an interesting story, then taking it and just adding all this unnecessary stuff to it makes it come off as "trying to be too cool" when it could have been cool by telling the real story behind Yasuke. If I want super powers, mutants, and robots, I'll watch a marvel movie.

The main problem with this series is that it tries to push stuff for at least three seasons in six short episodes. Besides that, I really liked the first three episodes- while they weren't perfect, they were at least watchable. The plot in the latter episodes felt rushed and was also kinda confusing in some moments: For example, at the end of one episode, one of the characters announces that he has no interest in fighting alongside the others, the next one, he is suddenly back at their sides without any explanation. Maybe the show would've been better if it were at least twice as long.

I know there are lots of negative reviews of Yasuke, but could we appreciate the music? I absolutely love the soundscape, I would claim it's one of the best "sounding" animes out there, and also the intro is probably one of the best anime intro songs of all time. Now back to the review. I really tried to love the project I was really excited for it bc of the music, but it was a huge let down. One of the main issues I have about the show is that it's based on a real event, which I thought was really cool at first. However they completely change the entire story and they add magic (which is fine ig i don't mind) but the add mec's and thats a bit too far. It doesn't fit the theme of the show and is highly unnecessary. The characters are really meh, i dont hate them, i dont love them. they r whatever ig. The story is a bit the same, it is okay but there are no interesting characters in the show that makes me want to follow the story. I tried to enjoy this... it was just too hard. Recommend: I recommend listing to the soundtrack, and i could say "hey, the art and fights are pretty cool and well made" but it isnt enough to make the entire show enjoyable. i dont rly recommend this show;(

Furthermore, I did not go in with any expectations, like with any Netflix-Anime and I had a blast. I loved Afro Samurai, I like how well the music works and how the show succeeds in creating a good, well-rounded vibe. This show reminds me because of many reasons of it. A story never has to be perfect if the basics work. Like in this anime. In the same way as Afro Samurai where the Story was not so great either was this very enjoyable as well. Just because Yasuke is not the strongest character in the verse doesn't make this bad either, I actually really liked the dynamic between the two leads and how they teamed up. I would have rated this higher, but it feels a little too short. 2 more episodes could have made this even better. I have a soft spot for these types of anime and I hope to see more like this.

I see people faulting the anime because it features "mechas and magic" in medieval times .. The story is still engaging with good action scenes and stellar animation good mix of bloodiness, romance, and adventure a good anime for mindless fun .. while it has some bushido codes of honor its not overly philosophical or slow paced a decent 8/10 show .. I found it very enjoyable and a stylish anime to pass the time with ------ Sound 9: excellent op aswell , from Flying Lotus Art 9: bloody swordplay scenes in 4k & magic fights in the astral plane Character 6: while some were annoying and pointless , I did enjoy the main Yasuke Enjoyment 10: Anime you can watch late night or early morning when you're just passing time

I have no idea why people are so upset about historical part of the anime. It is literally not mentioned anywhere that it's a historical anime. It's genre - FANTASY.... And now the anime has such a poor score because people do not pay attention to genre and afterwards write nonsence.... As I was watching the anime I was all the time wondering, why does it have such a low score.... Please if you are reading this, and you like heartwarming anime, give this one a chance. It's not a masterpeace, but it is not as bad as it's score. And next time, before you judge anime by something check if you are judging it for the correct genre. It is NOT a historical anime, so do not start crying about how historically inacurate it is. Oh, and I enjoyed the art style very much, thank you.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆: Yasuke's story feels confused and convoluted. It seems as though the anime is hesitant on what kind of narrative it is trying to tell. Is it an origin story for Yasuke? Is it a story about the trials and tribulations of being Japan's first Black Samurai? Is it a story about the bonds that are formed between Yasuke and his younger companion on their journey? Is it a story about Yasuke proving to Japan that he is worthy of being a heroic Samurai, and not just seen as another slave? Is it a fantasy tale about Samurai, magic, shapeshifters, Gods, Spider Demons and 15ft tall robots? Well, yes. It's all of these things. Yasuke's story is not only confusing in it's narrative structure, but also its meaning. It feels like the directors and writers had a multitude of ideas and themes from different genres, and instead of picking out the best ones that would best fit the recital of Yasuke, they decided to just include them all. There isn't necessarily anything inherently wrong with using a mix of different genre conventions - so long as those themes are implemented correctly. Despite just finishing the last episode in the first series on the same day I'm writing this review, I can genuinely not explain or elaborate on the story in any further detail, as I still have no idea what it was really about or trying to convey, and I have a feeling the writers didn't really know either. 𝗔𝗿𝘁: The art style in Yasuke is sharp and crisp, which is to be expected of a Netflix Original anime series. Yasuke himself has an excellent character design, with his thick long dreads and his distinctive body markings, he is easily the best designed character in the series. Everyone else's design is fine, but forgettable. The backgrounds are also sharp, and impressively detailed in some action scenes. There is some CGI implemented into the big action scenes, which in my opinion, doesn't tend to work that well in anime. I don't think MAPPA studios are at fault for this, as CGI in anime is notoriously hard to pull off, and always tends to leave that 'uncanny-valley' effect; where the animation is clearly good, but really stands out against the rest of the digitally drawn backgrounds and characters. 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱: This. Could. Have. Been. So. Good. Yasuke has weirdly modern, electronic hip-hop beats that play throughout the episodes. They sound like they could have come straight off a new Travis Scott album, and I think they could have assisted the action scenes so well, IF, they had woven these modern hip-hop style beats with traditional Japanese sound more often. Flying Lotus made some exceptional music for this anime, but I feel like it's just wasted here. The music just doesn't seem to fit at all, and seeing as this is during the Edo period I expected to hear more Hocchiku, Shamisen, Taiko, and basically any other instrument that is synonymous with traditional Japanese music. I remember at one point during Episode 5 when Yasuke is in combat with Karosaka, it has a slight Japanese-sounding twang mixed into the instrumental, but that loud hi-hat and heavy, slapping bass sound that is so well-known within 21st century hip-hop/rap culture, just completely threw me off. Anime like Samurai Champloo have the PERFECT combination and balance of both modern Jazz Rap and traditional Japanese sound, which only betters the already extremely captivating action scenes. Simply a missed opportunity for Yasuke. Other than the small complaints about the soundtrack, the voice acting is incredible. LaKeith Stanfield and Jun Soejima were both perfect for the role of Yasuke, and both captured his presence with their voice acting skills impressively. I'm very glad that two men of African ethnicity were actually cast to play the Black Samurai, Yasuke. That might sound obvious and silly, but with white-washing being prevalent in both TV and Film, I'm glad Yasuke anime didn't fall under that category. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿: Yasuke is a badass. No doubt. He is an honourable and loyal Samurai, who is exceptionally skilled in combat. I really liked how he clearly cares for those whom he loves, without showing it in an overly dramatic way. He will always stand up and fight if needed, and lay down his life for those he cares about, even if he doesn't say he would out loud. Again, like the character designs, everyone else is just slightly forgettable. I liked the attitude and demeanor of: Nikita, Achoja, Morisuke, and of course - Yasuke; who all showed some type of character growth and/or some kind of enjoyable presence. 𝗘𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Despite my complaints, I did enjoy my time watching - which I guess is one of the most important aspects in any kind of media. The number one goal for all anime is to simply entertain. Which it did. Big explosions, giant swords, houses blowing up, and more, is always a pretty good way to keep an audience engaged. Maybe this series would be better suited to a very new viewer of anime, as they would possibly appreciate it more just for it's good looks and cool premise. 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹: Yasuke isn't intrinsically bad by any means, it just fails to really pickup and excel in it's strong points. A 'historically accurate' story about Japan's first Black Samurai is such a cool premise, and I just wish they would have focused more on those themes, and Yasuke as a character, other than the massive mecha robots and magic demon creatures. Luckily, with 6 episodes at roughly 30mins run-time each, this anime is short and can be watched fairly swiftly. I WILL be watching the second series, simply for Yasuke. I want to know more about him, and his travels/journeys, and less about the demons and shapeshifters around him.

To be frank, it almost feels like the writer/director was told they would only get ONE chance to EVER make an anime and it had to have 6 episodes. So, they put in a bunch of random themes and jam-packed it into this anime. I was drawn into the idea of a historical story centered around a real-life individual of the past, I stayed in the hopes of getting an explanation for what was happening in the plot, and I finished it a little confused. Overall Yasuke had a lot of potential to be great but it flopped because it struggled to define itself. Art - 8 - the art was perfectly fine! Some scenes were very well done and I admired many of the battle scenes also. Sound - 7 - whilst I was expecting traditional Japanese music and sound, that wasn't the case. It has a more electronic vibe. It is not unwelcome and ultimately the sound was good. Characters - 5 - some characters are done well (such as Yasuke) other characters such as Saki required more fleshing out. I felt a sort of empathy for Yasuke but that was about it, most other character seemed to be victim to time constraints. Enjoyment - 4 - after all, I did FINISH the anime. Despite some of the out-of-place components in the anime it was entertaining enough. Story - 3 - so many themes felt out of place, so many plots were started but never finished, and it is a shame to think how great this could have been had some of the themes been excluded and characters built instead. In short, if you want to watch a cool anime about the real-life samurai Yasuke, you won't get anything historically accurate here. If you want to watch an anime about a samurai, robots, an evil figure, and a magical young girl, set in the 1500s then... I would still advise you proceed with caution. (lol). Overall this gets a 4 from me. There were aspects I enjoyed (episode 1 was great!) however it lost itself in it's ambitions to include many plot devices.

THERE WILL BE SLIGHT SPOILERS I had seen this in passing on Netflix and was curious so I added it to my list. And when I read it was a Samurai anime, I had to watch it. It seems CGI, but is wonderfully animated, with a nice mix of Japanese and American music for an OST. "A true warrior, above all else, prays for peace. Not War." "The past informs our future" These are two quotes said by Yasuke that always gripped me. I love that the writers and staff on this series gave it so much love and attention to detail with how the Japanese feel with the lines characters said, and how they acted weather in Yasuke's past or his present. But the historical bits could have been better outlined and put together. STORY -- 9.5/10 The simple yet complex story of Yasuke being a Black servant to an English man came across the sea, and then jumping into his guidance under Lord Nobunaga, and seeing him die; then flash forward 20 years to see Yasuke a humble Boatman who ends up helping a girl with odd powers as she's being targeted by everyone is a huge undertaking as far as my brain could follow. Yasuke played an integral role in keeping himself sane from the nightmares and pieces of his old life he dreamed about and we saw flashes of. And he never really 'left' being himself--a fighter. I really love the grasp of Yasuke's past to the present day mix to tell the story. But I wish they had focused more on Yasuke and his past with Nobunaga but that's just me and my love of the past of Japan. The seeming aspect of magic here too, is at play and it really captures your eye. ART -- 8.5/10 MAPPA always hits it out of the park. I loved Dororo and love this animation too. As soon as I saw the art, it had my eye, and I couldn't stop checking out the backgrounds and especially Yasuke and his hair. Being dreads my eyes were so touched with the subtle white lines to show the age that he had become and yet also differentiate his hair so it wasn't a big mess of black. The way they show close up shots of things and characters really brings out the art, it's lovely. The battle shots are amazing with the timing and the slow motion frames, even the camera turning upside down and all kinds of ways to show meaning behind a character getting killed or the steady pan of a shot from up high. Though the magic had me scratching my head, mostly because all the bad guys came from different parts of the world and it got confusing for them since this is so short. But it did take me back to video games like Genji: Dawn of The Samurai, and the Onimusha franchise, so it was pretty cool. In the transitions from the present to the past they're simply stunning and so simple. The quick frame fade from the colorful present to the black and white past and then a slip over of color is just wonderful, it pulls you in and tell you that you're looking at the past. SOUND -- 9/10 The music at the beginning of episode one was what ensnared me and I was n the edge of my seat listening and straining even to hear the background noise and just be engulfed in a myriad of sounds and tones that really catered to the mood though it was a mix (and a good one at that) of Japanese sounds and music, to more Americanized sounds, almost like a bit of hip-hop sounds (like the opening) and chords which drew me in even more, appreciating how the music complimented the main character, and all the characters no matter if they were dark or light skinned. I might look into the singer who did the OP and OST, his tunes are pretty chill. CHARACTERS -- 8.5/10 Yauske--I can't say enough about him and his strength and humble actions. He was an African slave that knew boxing, became a Samurai under Nobunaga and then became a Boatman, but could never leave being a Samurai and his honor he always had. Saki was cool, as the main want of the enemy I can bet she was a favorite of people as they watched, though for me I really liked obviously Yasuke, and Nikita. The Russian Bear woman. Nikita was AMAZING. She could throttle me, that's all. I did wish the enemies had better development rather than just being kind of 'get-the-girl-back' cookie cutter. Haruto was pretty neat though. Robot that shot ice and was huge. The Priest just rubbed me the wrong way though. Ew. ENJOYMENT -- 10/10 I really, really enjoyed this series, and I've not seen a well off Samurai anime like this one in a LONG TIME since watching Samurai 7 as a teenager. This is something I can only WISH wasn't by Netflix and had a DVD release coming so I could add it to my collection. It's definitely a favorite of mine and not just because it's semi-historical and Samurai based. OVERALL -- 9.5/10 I'm easy to please it seems. I recommend this to everyone right now who needs a little trip into Japanese history with the show of the generation of Nobunaga, though the main story is set 20 years after, it's still one hell of a ride.

Pretty short series, I wish it went on for longer. This is a show that I think suffers from how streaming operates these days. Put out a few episodes, gauge the reaction, and double down if people like it. Luckily I think this was a standout for Netflix and I believe we will get a second season. The soundtrack is ESPECIALLY good. I have listened to this soundtrack more than any other anime soundtrack, Flying Lotus did an amazing job. It's noting groundbreaking in terms of fantasy worlds or anime, but it is VERY solid, and definitely worth the small amount of time it takes to finish. 7/10 Review too short so I will just add a bunch of ones. 1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111

Yasuke has a wonderful animation style without a doubt but the storytelling was way poor. It seemed more like a summary of a certain series than the series itself. I don't know why the creators didn't go deep with the characters. Like what happened in the life of Yasuke after Nobunaga was killed and how he come to his present state. Where does Saki come from and did her parents really sold her this could also be explored. The anime does not make a sense in most of the parts as the story is distorted. But the animation and artstyle was amazing as expected of MAPPA. This ONA can be watched just for its wonderful art. It is my personal opinion obviously, yuo should not watch it if you want a series with more depth in its story. It was a decent was Iwould say of not a good one.

Before I watched the anime I had skimmed the reviews and had expected that the low rating was due to the historical inaccuracies, but in reallity everything but the art was bad... Story It felt like 2 authors who didn't coordinate at all wrote the separate halfs and then tried to kind of make them make sense, resulting in a total mess. The worst part is that a number of important events and decisions happen seemingly without a good justification, making the story almost random. Art It's mostly average, with above average moments, nothing much to say. Sound A little repetitive, but overall fine. Character They aren't bad, they just aren't really developed, but I would say that it is fine overall. Enjoyment It could have been an ok anime if only the story had been better, but due to the bad story it pulled down the rest of the show!

So... an anime based on the first black samurai. They just had to fuck it up. It doesn't stay true to the myth of Yasuke; which is one of the show's biggest letdowns - who decided that the addition of robots would be a good idea? The soundtrack is brilliant - but doesn't fit the anime for me. I can enjoy the soundtrack by itself... but alongside the anime, it performs poorly. I think that a more heroically toned, classically composed Japanese soundtrack would've been much more suitable for such show. Yasuke is a great character, but the story and lack of development just ruins the experience of his tale. However, poor writing is made up for by some of the few well-crafted fight sequences in the series. I had high hopes going into this anime, yet I came out of it disappointed. This show is drowning in wasted potential.

I liked it. Yeah it was short the the story could of been built better but it was overall a pretty good anime. It has its interesting fight scenes and some historical background to give the story more of a foothold in our world. Even though they added some random mechs into this world. Like how did this tech even exist without guns or something else. Anyway it made it interesting. The characters had some decent backstories but because the anime was so short we didn't really get to understand the background of our MCs. The main plot felt fine, maybe rushed at times. Though, it did work out in the end. With the actions scenes, the samurai fights were cool. The main parts of these fights where when magic was in use and had to be maneuvered around, or with. This anime gets to the point fast. With quick action and a interesting idea of the samurai period, it encompassed some interesting idea to this era. Adding mechs and magic making this a anime more wild than most samurai anime. I would like to see more build into the story, if they can do it well.

First, I must say that the show didn't stand for the hype that the trailer it released but it was a good show that was made by MAPPA so kudos to MAPPA SPOILER WARNING Story : When it comes to any Japanese historical anime Oda Nobunaga is connected somehow. And its show how Nobunaga seek talent and how he treated people in the Sengoku period where he ruled. With few twist to the whole story by adding magic and the Evil daimyo(basically a level witch). With the incorporation of mecha samurais, the whole authenticity of feudal Japan is gone. The with the flashback Yasuke have we get his backstory as well as how the current situation has happened. Within all the animes that have to include Nobunaga, this shows has a spectacular portrait of the Yasuke (Kokugin samurai) The main problem within the whole plot is the pacing of the story is done very fast with the story. This is subdued by good action and Yasuke interaction. the introduction of the side characters are very spontaneous and no plot development to those characters. this is caused because this anime ONA is a 6 episode show where it could have been a perfect 12 episode where it had almost a ton of plot and character to stretch it. Another special thing I want to mention here is how they connected Yasuke and Natsumaru love and the wholesome representation of interracial relationship within that period. It shows how love can hunt someone as well as rescue them from deep dark places. ART: The visual representation within the whole show was OK. when it comes to the character in some part it was good with average details and most of the time even Yasuke's details were washed out. the armoury design and katana design and style were good. Enjoyed the Helmet design how it shows the fit is different to Yusuke when compared with other countrymen. The only environment design that was properly done was the river and the place of Natsumaru gravestone. the environment design was very blunt. When we think of MAPPA they could have done a remarkable job with this but they failed to accomplish it. Sound: ......... It's rather disappointing with the sounds department where the opening and the ending theme song were just very regretful. Other sounds editing with the show was OK, not great because it was ok to with battle noises and the character dubbing was OK as well Character: Yasuke as a character in the first and the second episode was a very neutral and calm character who show resentment toward violence and shows how war and violence can change a person. Also from beginning to end, the author wants to emphasize the loyalty aspect of a true samurai where Yasuke was loyal to Nobunaga from the beginning of the show to the end. Where Yasuke become a samurai and embrace that culture and tradition he still shows his connection and belief to his native root. Another special thing I notice with this whole story is the female character representation. It was astounding. where no female character was objectified. All the character were crafted very beautifully and character development was not very deep but the creator gave a cohesive overall development to the main and the supporting female characters. here also want to mention few characters. Natsumaru has considered a main attribute within the whole plot as well even tho here screentime is less her presence and her attitudes were Subarashi. A strong woman both physically and mentally while preserving a feminine aspect with the story was great. These were times where women were oppressed by society and Natsumaru was a fine example to show what women can achieve in any situation. How her affections were showed towards Yusuke was also so subtle but very heart touching as well. Nikita is also another distinctive character we have to talk about when talking about the female character within this story where here leadership skills as well have the distinctive characteristic was a major attribute that peaked within the character development. When it comes to SAKI she's a combination of Avatar KORRA (spiritual power) and Jinora (characteristic). For a child character, her development was ok. Also want to mention ICHIKA, A strong elegant women who fight for the child very motherly character. I loved the koto playing and here knife flip while opening the door for Yusuke. The show was fairly ok. Loved the ending but it could have been more fruit full ending (just saying). As this is MAPPA's work we can say it was good. I recommend it but don't keep high hopes Thank you for reading.

Yasuke is a way to pander to every type of viewer out there trying to please everyone with cheap story and unengaging characters and it backfires big time! trying to mix Samurai, Mecha, Magic, werebears and Jojo's stands with altered historic events shows how poorly the creators understand the anime fanbase. not to mention trying to appease both American and Japanese audience but ending up pissing off both sides. Yasuke is a prime example of why American creators should stay their hands on anime for their sake and for ours. while the art and animation is decent, it's hardly anything special and it's not enough to carry the show on its own, and even the voice acting isn't inspiring to give this show a glimmer of hope. the fact that this is probably getting more seasons is depressing and I'd rather they put their effort into something more enjoyable or rather don't do anything at all. in any case there is no harm at least checking it out, you might enjoy it, I didn't but to each their own I guess.
