How has this not gotten more 10 star reviews? This is a ten star BL anime! The characters are realistic, the story is realistic, the feelings are realistic. This anime (and the manga) explain and subvert the most toxic BL tropes. It’s a wholesome anime that doesn’t rely on stereotypes. The only frustrating thing is that it takes sooooo long to get the reward, but when it happens it is 100% worth it. And it’s like that in real life too. You don’t suddenly kiss a guy and make him gay. It takes time to realize your feelings. Some people have known all their life that they felt a certain way. But others discover it. And sometimes you don’t need or want to assign labels like “seme/uke” or “gay/straight” and this anime shows that you don’t have to either. The characters are also so sweet and accepting of their friends. Apart from the story, the music is top notch and the animation is stunning. This is the representation the LGBT+ community needs more of.

Did not really like the first episode but the rest was totally worth it. Its very cute and there is character development throughout. The pace is a bit slow, but it feels different from other romance anime. Also there aren't many fights from miscommunication, which I appreciate. The art work is something for itself, it's so pretty and gives real depth. I often found myself forgetting this was an anime. I mean sure there are things that could have been better, but I enjoyed the feeling the anime gave me. It was very touching. Also it did not have unnecessary parts like some romance animes have (fan service, petty arguments, etc). All in all, I would reccomend if you want something a bit different, with a focus on romance between two young guys.

Sasaki to Miyano Non Spoiler Review Author: Shō Harusono Genres: Boys Love, Slice of Life Premiered: Winter 2022 Plot: Fluff! Wholesome! Pure! Aaaah, I really love this anime series. It's so refreshing and a breath of fresh air to watch this kind of romance once in a while. Though it's a same sex romance, which is not really rare in this era, it's cute and nice to see. The story is a senpai - kouhai relationship which started when Sasaki (senpai) helps Miyano (kouhai) in a difficult situation. In time, they became friends with the effort of Sasaki, loving and taking an interest in Miyano and the things he loves. The series is really just to chill. To enjoy the everyday, slow progress of their relationship. To see how one can discover feelings for another, in a natural and innocent way. I guess that's what captivating in this series is (or any other BL romance out there). There is no unnecessary fan service, no overused tsundere or overpopular characters. Just them being normal, having normal feelings in their own world. It's what really captures the hearts of those who watched it, the sweetness and romance you'll rarely see in a straight romance anime. It's worth 12 episodes of them, figuring out their feelings, hiding it, resisting it, and in the end, letting it out in the open on each other. With a blend of comedy and friendship (and a life of fujoshi/fudanshi) along the way. Maybe while watching, you'll realize that BL is not that different in normal love. They also feel the same love, they also want to be treasured, and they're also human. They also deserve the kind of love they can give. Characters: They're a walking green flag. Right, green flaaaaag! The uke and the seme are both cute, understanding, and pure. Oh, the "uke" is the bottom or the submissive. Uhmm. And the "seme" is the top or the dominant one in the relationship. Not that it matters, since both of them are innocent and new to that kind of relationship. Watching it really feels like seeing two young children discover love in a romantic way for the first time. I love how Sasaki portrays jealousy, sincerity, and patience. Prioritizing Miyano's feelings over anything else. And how Miyano faced him head-on, thinking thoughtfully about how he would deal with Sasaki's and his own feeling. But what I soooo love about this series is how the people around them have no toxicity. They're supportive, uncritical, and listen. Is it someone unrealistic? Maybe, but maybe not. Guess if you're really true to your companionship, they'll also be true to you. Enjoyment: If you want to watch a light anime romance, no heartbreak, no tragedy, just chill for a moment, then this one's for you. Just feel every scene, laugh and make your heart flutter. It's an easy watch, not the kind that will make your heart feel heavy, but will lighten up your mood. Simple gestures, simple scenarios that can make you smile and realize, that's also what love is.

I think the show itself does a wonderful job showing the chemistry between the two, there is such a nice buildup of emotions as they get to know eachother. The dub especially has a really great voice cast that sells the relationship as well. With that being said, the show itself is annoyingly slowburn. I've never been against slowburn romances but for it to work, it has to not feel like its dragging its feet across and instead just develop things a little bit at a time. For me, I ended up annoyed as I watched the second half of the season. By the first half there is a clear confession of feelings but the entire second half is dedicated to one person delaying any confession. I think a delay is fine since its a chance for characters to search their own feelings out more but dedicating the whole second half of the season for it was frustrating. When a character says "sorry lemme think about it some more" on two seperate occassions before the end, it just comes off as stupidly hesistant. With my own complaints in mind, I still found the experience enjoyable but was just a little annoyed while I was watching everything unfold.

I've gotta say this is very unlike any romance anime I've seen, but I think it was mostly for the better. The main point I want to make about it both covers the little thing I would've liked to see changed and everything I love about it. That point is that everything is about the two main characters. In most cases, I would be saying that's a bad thing, and here's why: in a cast with as many supporting characters as this one, it feels like a waste not to explore them. Now, granted, this series has a spin-off, but that only covers two characters. In Sasaki to Miyano, I did spend some time wishing that the few plot points brought up about these other characters were investigated a bit more closely because I think the characters were actually all really well done. They've got defined personalities without being over the top, and it would have been worth it to dig into them more. That being said, the excessive focus on Miyano and Sasaki is something I actually like about this anime--far more than I would in any other anime. Maybe that's because Sasaki to Miyano is quite relaxed so it feels nice to spend all the time with the two main characters, but I think what it really is is that so many romance anime are overcomplicated. Yes, this one is a bit simple (which I just talked about), but it's so much nicer than a messy love triangle, various friendships that go awry, and dramatic or tragic events happening all the time. It was lovely to go into every episode knowing that I wouldn't walk away missing the opportunity to have a nice moment or two between the two main characters. This anime, unlike every other romance anime, was a romance first. Not an episode was wasted in that regard. Everything else was secondary. Some people might not like that about this anime--perhaps they would have wanted to see background stories from Miyano and Sasaki that weren't there--but I actually think the minimalism of it all was done well enough that it doesn't feel like any holes are left anywhere. Doing that well is very rare, and I don't think I've seen another anime be successful at it. Typically, having a lot going on with the characters is nice, but Sasaki to Miyano is nice, too. Enjoying a high-quality, simplistic, sweet romance is sometimes exactly what's needed. So, if you want to give this a go, do. It handles the genre and the topic of LGBTQ+ people very well; I don't know that it tops Given in terms of normalizing non-heterosexual relationships, but it comes very close with how casually it talks about the subject, rather than making it a showpiece (though it does at times, which is why it isn't quite as good as Given). All in all, I'm super glad to have watched this. I'll come back to it.

i thought the progress was a bit slow but the ending was worth the wait. the last scene is very touching and beautiful and it makes all the wait worth it for those who prefer a faster progress in the relationship. the supporting characters all have interesting lives and if there was more material and background on them i think it would have been much more interesting. the art was amazing. all the characters are handsome (fufu) :D i recommend this anime to those who are looking for something light and wholesome. i personally watched it to kill time but at the same time i enjoyed it very much.

I feel like it's a really average school romance/SOL anime that's easy to follow and fairly entertaining so it's good to watch when you want to relax. I think the high rating has to be just because of the BL factor, maybe especially because it's more 'wholesome' than the typical BL. Although truthfully BL has evolved to the point that there's no shortage of wholesome romcoms, I suppose it's still relatively few BL manga that get adapted into anime. On the other hand, nothing about Sasaki to Miyano really stands out as a school romance for me, whether it be the characters, the story, or the artwork. The dialogue is fine, not roll on the floor hilarious, there's not really a whole lot of zany anime hijinks, there's no love triangles or drama, none of the characters are really unique. The two main leads aren't even that close before they start dating, they just hang out at school or after school and talk about BL but they don't feel like best friends or soulmates. The senpai thinks the kouhai is cute and asks him out, the kouhai ponders over whether he should accept or not and doesn't give him an answer for like 6 months, he decides he likes the senpai back and they start going out. I guess the story and the romantic buildup, even the various characters' personalities and everything are surprisingly realistic for anime, but it's because of that realism that just makes it kind of boring. Cute, but nothing memorable.

Idiots to lovers, 12 episodes, slow burn. I mean, excruciatingly slow burn. And tooth-decayingly sweet. But that's the charm: because the poor kids can't figure themselves out, things take time and a ridiculous amount of doubt and insecurity and obliviousness. That's adolescence for you, most of all for the queer among us. Stuff that I liked, in no particular order: - Awareness for pressure and boundaries. Love to see it (even if Sasaki’s paralyzed pining breaks my heart). - The Chairman’s acknowledgement that, yes, stuff do be different for gay relationships and homophobia exists, but it’s going to be alright. - The use of repeating sound and visual motifs for love-struck moments: bit melodramatic, but if there’s anything that feels melodramatic, it’s being in your teens and in love for the first time. - Miyano trying to make sense of his experiences by attempting to relate them to fiction. Mood.

I read the manga before watching the anime, and I can say that I prefer the pacing of the anime, it moves a bit faster and the pacing feels better. I have no complaints on the story, their love evolves naturally and at a good rhythm, a bit too shojo like for my liking, but it's a good "please cleanse my rotten soul" kind of story. What I didn't like was that it's pretty obvious this season had a low budget. The animation was for the most part pretty mediocre, at least the most meaningful scenes where animated nicely, but around 70-80% of the anime looks rather shabby. I guess for most people this is not important unless it looks like complete crap like Ex-Arm, but if you are someone that likes good animation, that's something you won't find for more than a couple of minutes in the whole season. Overall, this is a cute and calm love story to forget about how horrible the world really is (ノ°∀°)ノ⌒・*:.。. .。.:*・゜゚・*☆・*:.。. .。.:*・

Sasamiya is one of my favourite BL manga, so I was very excited for the anime. Did the anime deliver? Yes, but with a problem. Is it worth watching? Yes. It's a good anime for BL fans, for anyone who is looking for something to pass the time, for anyone who wants to watch something cute and light. Stuff about the characters, story, etc., I have already said in my manga review and it still applies here, so I won't mention it again. On to the rest. The animation is good, flows smoothly imo, the colours are appealing and go well with the soft vibe, there aren't many weird-looking panels that I have noticed. The sound is fine too, op and ed are nice but probably unmemorable, voice acting sounded good. So, what is the problem that I mentioned before? The draged-out scenes. In the first episodes there aren't any issues, the story sets off fine. But somewhere in the middle of the show you will start noticing that some episodes/scenes feel so dragged out it becomes boring. I gave a seven to the story because of that. The show should have 8 episodes max, 12 episodes is too much for what it has to offer. Now, you could argue that the manga is slow-burn, but let me tell you I love slow-burn and love the manga for that, but that is not what I'm talking about. While the anime is also slow-burn and there's nothing wrong with that, that's not what I'm referring to, it's about the dragged out scenes. I don't care if it takes 12 or 20 episodes for someone to realise their feelings, for a couple to get together, for a fight to happen, wtv wtv, as long as those 12 episodes aren't stretched. Some scenes feel like they needed to drag stuff to make it to the 24 (?) minute and 12 episodes mark. That happens somewhere in some episodes in the middle of the show, then it becomes 'normal' again in the last episodes (I think?? I'm watching the episodes as they air and my memory is shit, but I think the last episodes I watched were fine.) I don't think they are that bad to watch and the show is still a good show nevertheless. Was it enjoyable? Yes, definitely. Would I recommend it? Definitely (while also telling you to read the manga if you can). It was fun, it was cute, it was nice to watch despite the dragged scenes. I love the main characters and side characters (my fav is even a side character), the story is light and plays with its own clichés, the last episode was so cute it made up for any problems the anime had... I'm looking forward for the next season.

i absolutely loved this show. i think its realistic in portraying how anyone feels in the beginning stages of a relationship. i loved miyano's admiration for sasaki and how everything played out. they felt so real i was rooting for them like i would for my friends. and most of all i loved the slow burn. it was so well done. i hate when 2 characters fall in love in less than a week thats so unrealistic. and most of all i loved how wholesome their relationship was. it was so cute i had butterflies the entire time. it had been such a long time since an anime had made me feel that. DEFINITELY WATCH IT YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME.

GOD this anime is so tender and sweet!! I've never been involved in the BL community before, but I was heavily active in the slash fanfiction community for other shit on tumblr back in its hay day (lol), and it's so funny how tropes are tropes are tropes (etc). I've gathered from reading other people's commentary that wholesome BL is hard to come by, and I hope that the success of this series opens the doors for more!! As a person whose first experiences were with the same gender, it's really, really nice to see this story depicted so tenderly. I watched all 11 episodes that were out last week in like 2 days, and went out and bought the first two volumes of the manga on Friday. If you like cutesy slowburn romances this one has all you need to make your heart go badunk badunk :)

This is the first BL show I've ever seen and it definitely left an impression. What started as something of an experiment to sort of expand my horizons offered quite a bit more than what I expected. I won't say that it was life changing, but when the two leads kept questioning whether they liked each other and that DAMN PIANO plays...the show hit harder than anything else in the winter 2022 season had to offer in its tenderness. Its just that everything in between dragged the show on, but not too terribly. If you are patient, and are looking for a first BL show or maybe something to expand your horizons of anime viewing pleasure, Sasaki to Miyano can offer you something quite different and at times, something quite tender

Sasaki to Miyano is one of very few yaois I've watched that isn't extremely 'rapey' so that's already a plus. Unlike older yaois like from the 2010's, Sasaki to Miyano actually takes place in typical romance anime situations. The main couple are just two boys in high school who have their own personal set of interest. I do feel like the characters are quite surface level, Sasaki had no depth outside of being a boy who read BL manga, and Miyano seemed to just be a guy who had a crush on him. That doesn't mean the anime was bad, but it would've been better if the characters were a little more fleshed out. Sasaki and Miyano are a sweet couple though, and the anime does romance pretty well. I enjoy their dynamic with a shyer timider character, and a more outgoing social one. It is nice to see their relationship develop and It's a great binge anime. The side characters are hilarious as well, and I enjoy the humor in the anime. Overall, it's a pretty good anime to watch while eating and not think too much while watching.

A really wholesome BL which is REALLYY slow paced, and that's the best part. Seriously, this is the purest romance anime I have ever watched, let alone BL. It is about a fudanshi named Miyano and his senior, Sasaki who fell for him at first sight. They both like to discuss about BL mangas, and Sasaki found himself falling in love with him even more. Their relationship was so genuine and pure and imo that was what made me to still watch it, because I usually can't stand with slow-paced stories haha I REALLY love the artstyle so much, and these fuzzy backgrounds during scenes are like the cherry on the top of the cake, they made scenes so fuzzy and warm.. ^.^ On why I didn't give more than a 7, I don't know how to explain, I suck at writing reviews but I felt like it was lacking something romance animes usually had. All we saw was about them talking about BL Mangas and that's it. Nothing else. I know that's the point of the story, but they could've shown more than just being BL buddies. The side characters were good but they should've got more screen time too, because, let me admit, sasamiya taking the whole screen time almost got me tired. They're the main characters, yes, but if they would've atleast added some more depth to side characters like how the president and kuresawa had mentions of their stories, it wouldn't have been boring to watch after all. I'm not exactly complaining though, I enjoyed this series.. ☆__☆ Overall, I really liked this and it made me understand why slow-pacing is important.

Perfect. Spectacular. No notes. Beautiful portrayal of two adolescents figuring out what love is supposed to be and how it feels to them. Briefly suspends reality’s widespread homophobia to create a safe fictional setting for two boys to come to terms with homosexuality and masculinity. A generally well-written, respectful, and positive romantic relationship, complete with all the ups and downs. Nicely-paced slice of life that balances realism and a supporting cast of genuine, well-rounded characters. I've watched both the subs and dub, and the English dub does a great job of translating not just the words but the VIBES. Give me more you cowards.

Although I really liked the premise of the story, nothing fancy but can be done smartly and sweetly, I am a fan of a more classic art style so the sloppy hair, pointy noses, and big wide eyes so common now, are mediocre and generic to me. Right away that made it harder to keep watching, besides they absolutely horrible dubbed voices (I couldn't find an original with subtitles), but this will be a highly pleasing series for those who want a "give and take", discovering "love" together, as well as a friendship with common interest story. Through the years of reading and watching BL and yaoi almost exclusively, the seme/uke, the heterosexual overlay on a gay romance or relationship never sat well with me and it's disappointing to continue to see it in the 21st century. I'm a gay guy. I know the definition and history of yaoi, and though I have really loved some titles who do have this type of dynamic, it's 2020+. The "more masculine" and "the more feminine" partner? These are stereotypes and troupes that are harmful to and misrepresent gay lives and loves. It also misinforms young men especially who may look at these as what they aspire to be or how they should act. That creates unreal expectations and stereotype gays who don't know any better or only maybe learn later through unnecessary pain and disappointment. It creates others who expect us gay guys to be like this is some way, and its tiresome trying to explain much of these types are entirely fantasy with little or nothing about real gay guys. If you don't care about any of that (and I'm not saying you should per se, we would just appreciate it), watch through, roll your eyes at some things, have a laugh at some of the better comedic situations and decide if Sasaki and Miyano deserve a thumbs up. It was a time passer for me but mid at best.

TL;DR – Sasaki to Miyano is a good BL, but nothing new or notable was achieved. While better than older BL anime, this anime sadly fell into familiar tropes. Two “straight” teens suddenly find themselves attracted to each other, one of them is bold about expressing how they feel while the other is all blushes and anxiety. “He’s so cute… But he’s a boy, so whatever will I do?!” The most progressive spin I can apply to this trope is, “They are discovering their sexuality while dealing with the pressure of heteronormative expectations.” But when the characters say, “I’m straight” and “But I like girls” to themselves, it kinda undermines that argument in my book. Despite falling hard into this bad plotline, the anime itself has a fairly compelling story, the character building for our two mains is decent, the animation is generally well done, and the anime doesn’t insist on pushing each male character into a same-sex relationship, which is a nice touch. The anime also pokes fun at itself, with BL manga being the hobby which draws our two protagonists closer together and there’s plenty of references to BL tropes and sub-genres too. We really do not get to see the home lives of either Sasaki or Miyano however, which is something I feel hurts the anime. We’re led to believe that these two really only have a life at school or on their way to and from school, which limits character depth and leaves potentially compelling plots off the table. To be fair, this shortcoming seems to be common in amine involving high school students, so I suppose that would give a pass to this anime too. Is this anime as good as Given, The Stranger by the Shore, or Twilight Out of Focus? Honestly, I’d say that this is on-par with Twilight Out of Focus’s better episodes, but not quite hitting the same mark as Stranger or Given, but if you liked any of those, you’ll probably like this as well. Twilight Out of Focus certainly broke a lot of boundaries for gay representation in anime, but only in a few of the episodes, while the rest was very trope-y. Sasaki to Miyano hews much closer to safer territory, with zero mentions of sex, reusing tropes, and keeping things very PG.

This series should have only been 6 episode has the Main character is a coward and there is 5 episodes that is basicly fillers and feel wastefull. They should have added a little drama or something to make it a little more interesting. Tho if you look past this, its a cute story, and i like how all the friends respect their relationship and back out and let them deal with it instead of interfering. Also the art in this show is stunning. I loved it so much. Also, if you watch it with english dub, one of the guys sounds like chris from the show "family guy" even tho the voice actress is not the same. But it give you a good laugh. Allthough i recommend watching this.
