Sasaki and Miyano

If you enjoy feel good stories, this is a must watch. A wholesome story about two boys falling in love, with so many moments that can make your heart melt. It has a great balance of funny, serious, and just adorable moments throughout. If you've never watched a BL, or avoided it because you've heard bad things about common tropes, this is perfect for you. An amazing entry that stays healthy and avoids so many problematic themes associated with the genre. Some parts can be annoying, and it may feel like the story drags on, but the cute moments given by that dragging almost make up for it. The focus is of course on Sasaki and Miyano, but you're definitely able to get invested in the side characters and their own stories. Watching their relationship progress is very sweet, and if you're looking for a comfy watch on a late night this is perfect, no matter how experienced or new you may be to the genre. If it was up to me, this would be required viewing for every queer youth. This is one of the best representations of what a healthy young homosexual relationship should be. Even if you're straight, or never really enjoyed BL, I'd still strongly recommend this to any romance fan. This is a classic high school love story with engaging characters abd a romance centered, but engaging plot that can be enjoyed by almost everyone. The anime is clearly tied to fudanshi/fujoshi culture, and is filled with references to it, so if you have a strong aversion to that stuff then you likely won't be able to enjoy it as much. But even if you know nothing about that culture, the anime is just as enjoyable, and you get to learn about stuff you didn't know.

This was my very first BL anime and I am not disappointed. If you're looking for something lighthearted, funny, and cute then this is just the anime for you. Too add on, this is more reserved from other BL series, well so I am told. There's very light physical affection for those who are just starting off and don't want to be thrown into all the physical stuff. The only downside is that it is a slow development. It was definitely cute, but I can be impatient lol. So please, check out this anime and let me know your thoughts.

As a 26 year-old who thought she was past watching school-centric romance + slice of life, and whose goldfish-like attention span often makes her frustrated watching a media with slow pace and little to no major conflict, Sasaki to Miyano completely changed those assumptions I had about myself. But most importantly: it made me believe in love again. Romance is NOT dead. [Characters: 9 for great] Let's start with the best element of Sasaki to Miyano, okay? The characters. At first glance, our leads—Sasaki and Miyano—seem like your typical feminine-looking uke with tiny body and masculine-looking seme with tall height. Well, 50% of the time, those are what they are. However, the anime seems to be self-aware of that, and actually makes it one of the conflicts: Miyano is insecure about his feminine face, and gets hurt when he thought that that's all Sasaki likes about him (spoiler: it's not). That should give you a hint on how complex and "beyond stereotypes" our leads are. Because not only that, these two also deal with very realistic elements of falling in love: wanting to understand and get excited about the other person's hobby, giving yourself time to understand your own self before committing to someone (and, conversely, being patient in letting the other person do that), communicating your feelings and stance clearly (even if it means admitting that you're still figuring things out), and just generally being considerate and respectful to the person you like and/or who likes you as long as they don't push any boundary. Like. Seriously, these two feel very real and relatable. They are also walking green flags. Together, they're probably one of the healthiest couple in not just BL animes, but romance animes in general. And whilst I'm in the boat of "toxic representations are fine as long as they're depicted as they are: toxic representations", we already have too much of them in the BL anime scene and thus, Sasaki and Miyano are SUCH a breath of fresh air. But our two leads are not the only reasons I give the "characters" element a 9. The side-characters are ALL so well-written, too. They don't feel like NPCs or characters who are only created to help our leads develop. They have their own conflicts, anecdotes, love life, etc. And they all interact with each other seamlessly, making the world of this anime feels so interconnected. The character designs are all good, too. Everyone looks distinct and they all have personalized outfit style. [Plot: 7 for good] Picking up from what I said in the previous section about the anime being "self-aware": overall, this anime is pretty meta. You probably already know from the MAL summary that Miyano is a fudanshi, or a man who likes reading the BL genre. Well, this anime points out and (sometimes) makes a commentary on a LOT of BL tropes and anecdotes of fudanshi and fujoshis (a woman who likes reading the BL genre). Sometimes, they also do the same to weeb culture in general. However, despite some of the plot being meta, some of it (especially the ones in the beginning and middle) are also cliche and cringe-inducing (ie. Sasaki being overly jealous all the time (though he ultimately supported Miyano that one (1) time)). Furthermore, even if the anime points out the good message of, "a man liking BL doesn't always mean he's looking for the same experience irl," I believe the anime brushes off toxic fujodan (and weeb) behavior such as projecting/superimposing fiction to reality. For example, Sasaki gets excited to see his guy friends reliving the tropes he often read in his BL. Now /this/ is fetishizing IMO. I understand that behavior coz I was like that, too, when I was a baby fujoshi. But now I know better. But overall, the writing and pacing of the story are pretty good. I was genuinely surprised at how easy I binged all 12 episodes of this anime was, considering that it was—as I said in the beginning—a school-centric romance + slice of life. Coz tbh even watching 3 episodes of action-packed and plot-heavy anime can make me frustrated. That means Sasaki to Miyano did a good job in keeping me entertained despite the lack of drama and major conflict. [Sound: 6 for fine] The Japanese VAs for everyone did a great job. The English VA for Miyano was surprisingly amazing. I didn't like the English VA for Sasaki much, though. But maybe it's only a preference thing. My preference also told me I don't like the OP nor ED much. They both felt too underwhelming to me. [Animation & art: 6 for fine] I don't think a school-centric slice of life and realistic anime can get above 8 for animation & art from me. This is simply because there isn't much room for the animators nor artists to experiment. Even if they COULD experiment with whatever they had at hand, they didn't. Sasaki and Miyano's color palette is standard, there's no distinctive art style, and the filters during the "doki doki" moments are pretty standard. But I didn't give Sasaki and Miyano a 5 for average because I think they did slightly better in portraying the beautiful sunset at the final episode and also Miyano during the cross-dressing competition. [Overall enjoyment: 8 for very good] Sasaki and Miyano is a breath of fresh air for me. It's also a huge surprise coz I didn't expect it to hold my interest throughout the show. All in all, the final rating is (9+7+6+6+8)/5 = 7.2 rounded to 7

This anime was delightful - its very soft and fun. Very slice of life as you follow the life of both Miyano and Sasaki and the love that grows between them. I will warn new watchers this is 100% a slow burn. Hella cute and get you a man like Kuresawa. This was a beautiful anime- the art style fits it just perfectly the colors and mood of the art style really help sell the feelings, even when the characters are being silly. I really liked how Sasaki is immediately into Miynao but is also totally respectful of Miyano's feelings even when he is super into him he is 100% ready to wait for the response. But it is also not all of Sasaki's motivation to do something, Sasaki has his own feelings about other things then Miynao - his concerns for studying and how he feels about graduation are clearly seen in the show. Miynao as a Fudanshi adds so much to the show- just enough cringe but not so much that you feel like you're watching a cringe compilation. He also had more depth then you expect from the premise, a completely understandable concern about having a girl face from past teasing, but having him over come it the way he does is really nice.

I can honestly say this is one of the best in its niche. Disregarding that it fulfills the gay slice-of-life romcom that very few animes portray accurately. The writing is some of the best I've seen in the genre, the plot line is fairly simple, but along the plot line there is so much that happens that you don't even notice, despite it being right in front of your face, that becomes gets called back to and made important which just leaves you sitting there like, "oh wait, yeah that did happen, wait its been happening all along? that's awesome!" Sasaki to Miyano has amazing character development without creating trauma and abrupt changes in characters. Its pacing is amazing. Its very realistic yet feels fantasy-full. My only judgment is that it's cheesy at points, which i personally love, but a lot of people don't. besides that there's not much left to critique

This is one of the few BL’s that I’ve watched. It is so good oh my gosh. Both characters are really sweet and wholesome and everyone else is supportive which isn’t something you see often in any romance, BL or not. The animation and art is top notch and it reminds me of Horimiya which also has amazing animation. Also, all the characters had their cool and cute moments its easy to like each and every one of them. The problems they ran into were realistic and the main character learned of something called being bi which was great. This was wholesome all the way through and I would gladly recommend and re watch anytime.

A healthy relationship??? With characters who respect each other's boundaries?? In MY anime?? Absolutely unheard of. I put this on to be background noise while doing work and I was completely blown away how good it was - especially the dub. Story: The story was nothing crazy but it was surprisingly wholesome. I didn't mind that it was an extremely slow burn. Animation: The animation was good where it needed to be. Any shot bigger than a cowboy you could see some clunkiness and inconsistencies (ie: everyone had legs that stretched to next tuesday). I really thought it was creative to redraw scenes in flashbacks with a thicker, more dynamic brush to give a different feeling - I've never seen that before and I appreciate the effect it added! There were also a few compositing issues here and there as well. Overall a really great show with a great atmosphere.

Even though I liked this anime I felt like it was a bit overhyped. It's definitely rare to find a BL that's not grossly oversexualizing gay men or presenting them in really predatory ways, and even though I feel like we're not quite all the way there yet, it's definitely getting better. For this particular anime I felt like both of the boys were a bit too stereotypical for the genre - a tall guy with piercings falls in love with short/cute/puppy-like guy and now struggles with being around him because everything and anything the guy does is "moe" to him and he can barely contain his feelings. Every now and then he gets the guts to be straightforward but of course, the oblivious puppy-person will misunderstand it as the guy just being friendly and quirky like that, tho this just might be a nitpick of mine since that's just the way the romance genre is... It was a nice and sweet story, tho I felt like their personalities might have been a bit generic, but if you like a lovestruck x oblivious dynamic then this slowburn is definitely great for you.

While I am a huge fan of romance anime, this show marks my first foiree into the bl subgenre. I don't usually post reviews like this, but this show has been living rent-free in my head since I finished it three days ago - and it's all because of one scene. Spoilers for the 12th episode ahead. Usually slow-burn, "will-they-won't-they" plots aren't really my thing. I've seen enough romance anime in my life that I've grown pretty tired of them. I won't lie, I almost dropped Sasaki to Miyano halfway through for this exact reason. I ended up finishing it, and I'm glad I did - because Miyano's confession scene in episode 12 is so good, it redeemed the entire show for me. The shot composition and lighting in the scene is near perfection. The sunset-bathed scene sets the tone perfectly, and watching the swaths of color slowly shift from yellow to orange to a soft pink is breathtaking. Not actually showing the kiss, but pulling away to that wide shot under the gazebo perfectly captures the intimacy of the moment - this also happens to be the best use of the "geometric shapes" visual motif present throughout the show. The writing in this scene is also standout. Their lines are sweet without stumbling into mushy or saccharine territory - but most importantly, the lines are all 100% believable and totally character appropriate. Even in the "Big Romantic Scene," both Sasaki and Miyano are still talking like themselves. But the writing is only half the work here: the lines are delivered with the perfect amount of sincerity and heart from both the Japanese and English voice actors. What I like most about the writing in this scene, though, is how sparse it is. The scene is given the time that it needs to breathe and feel truly organic. Lastly, and in my opinion most importantly, is the music. I'm a musician by trade, so I tend to value shows with great osts. That being said, I've often found that the thing that makes or breaks a show is not so much the quality of the music, but how the director decides to use it (take Digimon for example. STELLAR ost. Horrible placement). All things considered, the ost for Sasaki and Miyano is completely fine. I do give props to the composer (the phenomenal Kana Shibue) for weaving a couple of themes and motifs throughout the soundtrack. But the way that the music is used in this confession scene is a masterclass in romance directing. The soft, solo piano rendition of the show's theme gives the whole scene an air of sentimentality. Sonically, it's the same as the color wash from the sunset - it bathes the entire scene in this glow that's hard to look away from. The writing being as sparse and organic as it is really allows the music to carry the emotional weight of the scene - and it pays off in big ways. I get chills every time I revisit the kiss perfectly-timed to the most impactful moment of the music. TL;DR - This one scene in a bl anime made me, a straight man, feel a lot of emotions. More so than most romance media I've watched. Anyone looking to write or direct romance in any medium should be taking notes.

This gotta be my fav BL anime. It's got just what I hoped for from one. Subtlety, interesting and likeable characters, good execution... honestly, I can only praise it and can't find anything to complain about. I've read manga way before the anime got released and I'm so thankful that the manga got an anime adaptation. I hope to see more BL/GL anime that take themselves seriously rather than exist as fanservice or a bait for all the gays and gay content enjoyers. It's good to see genuine, well thought out love story between same sex characters, so damn good, now give me a second season, please— *ahem* Sasaki and Miyano is definietly not for those that don't like soft paced love stories. If you want to see a lot of action going on there are other BL anime that provide quick, sometimes questionable, but still quick progression in romance. For me it's 10/10, out of my pure love and appreciation for it. It gives me hope that future adaptations of BL/GL stories will be getting better and maybe we'll get more good stories like this one.

Hi Guys, what's up so today I'm going to be talking about an anime called Sasaki and miyano which is bl anime/Yaoi Anime. Okay, so the story of Sasaki and miyano was a very sweet, non toxic and calming one which is very unique for a yaoi/bl story as most yaoi/bl stories are mostly about characters in a very toxic and sex driven relationship but this anime is just supposed to be a nice and wholesome love story between two guys and this story isn't too worried about stuff like pacing or culture as it is just supposed to be a nice calming love story and I feel like that is one of the advantages that this show has over other bl anime as it really tries to show you what love is regardless of gender and the relationship between these two characters doesn't feel crafted by someone who's drawing in his bedroom instead it feels like a story that exists in the real world, but one thing is that I do wish that this story would also show more of the other charecters now don't get wrong the charecters do have a good amount of screen time but I feel like most of that screen time isn't being used to develop those charecters and show their desires or purpose in detail and so I do hope that the author of this story does start to give more insight on the charecters in the future and yeah the story isn't really much as it's just nice and calming that's it. Okay, so the art and animation of Sasaki and miyano is pretty okay in my opinion but I do really like the circles, triangles and other shapes that just peacefully fly around when something happens between the Sasaki and miyano. But I also do think that they could have definitely made it even better than it was but I don't think I should judge as Japanese animators have really bad working conditions and low wages especially now more than ever but I do feel like it could have looked so much better as I can honestly just feel the potential in the air, and the animators have also nailed the calm and casual atmosphere of the story perfectly and also goddamn Sasaki looks kinda foxy sometimes okay okay I'm not gay before u ask me that okay I'm just saying. Okay, so now I'm gonna just talk a little about the other things, so as I said before the characters are very natural and well crafted and I also do appreciate the voice actors in this show as I think that they did a very good job with voicing the characters and I especially liked sasaki's voice acting as I think that the voice actor did a way better job than I expected at first, but one minor nitpick that I have is that I really didn't like it whenever Sasaki just covered his face and than was like he's so cute, but yeah that doesn't really matter that much. So Overall I think that it's a really nice calm and actually kinda relaxing show and before you go to watch this show in case you wanna go and watch it now then I would first like to say that this anime isn't for everybody and also the ending of this anime is very satisfying and cute.

Want some sweet BL but without all the bullshit toxic tropes? Then boy, do I have the show for you! Personally, I am open to all kinds of romance shows, with Yaoi and Yuri being even more interesting to me than the same old hetero high school romance. There's just one problem; By now, there are plenty of fun Yuri options to pick from - and I bet plenty more that I am excited about, yet haven't gotten around to! - whereas with Yaoi, it's like a minefield if you aren't into stuff like assault and cookie-cutter seme/uke constellations and tropes. Not to say that once in a while, a show with a more "problematic" constellation like student/teacher, age-gap and so on doesn't also please, but the sheer lack of variety here is a big issue. It makes the whole genre seem like it's only meant to appeal to a very, very specific demographic. Luckily, I came across this little gem and had a thoroughly pleasant time with it. It tells the story of two high-school kids - a kouhai and a senpai, one year apart, who over the course of over a year slowly become friends, become more and more interested in each other and then slowly fall in love. But then, why does it have to be a BL? What makes this one so special? Well, it's the fact that it was clearly made by someone with a lot of affection for the genre, yet also enough self-awareness to ground the show and make it actually endearing. We got Miyano, a young man who is really into BL even though he isn't "into it in that way", and his Senpai Sasaki, who ends up asking for a manga recommendation and then slowly becomes more interested in BL as a storytelling genre as well as his cute Kouhai. And both of the boys get plenty, plenty of room to work with their feelings. There's a lot of consideration, thought process and desire that doesn't seem to match in the beginning. Yet this show also avoids becoming too heady by having its main couple talk to plenty of colorful, fun side characters, all of which can tell what's going on much sooner and can gently help to nudge them both in the right direction. And that is also where the BL commentary comes into play; it's light, but it's undeniable. Miyano questions the true nature of his feelings for his senpai a lot, and in no small part due to the common BL clichés. He's a small, somewhat girlish-looking boy with a cute face. Would he have to be the Uke? But that would place his senpai as the cooler, older Seme. But that doesn't seem right! Can't he be cool, too? It's weird for him to find this tall, supposedly manlier senpai cute, isn't it? And Sasaki isn't just cool either - he wrestles with his desire for his kouhai, he wants to touch his hands, his hair, his face, but also wants to be sure his kouhai is comfortable. He doesn't want to do something just out of desire, so he constantly makes sure to give his kouhai all the room he can. It's just all around a pleasant show, with two good kids who give each other all the space and consideration while also having a real connection that many other yaoi works are devoid of. They have interests they share, they have a wonderful chemistry, they more or less share a friend group, give and take a few, who are all supportive of them. They develop and think about their feelings each in their own pace and it's really well-done. Add to that the shows somewhat mellow, soft presentation with plenty of warm oranges and pinks, and a lot of soft shapes that kinda just float in space softly, and perfectly communicate blossoming feelings and the mood of each scene. In conclusio, this show may not do anything revolutionary, but sometimes just doing something ordinary really well and being a good time through it all is enough. Sometimes just a sweet little romance is all you need. And in a genre desperately lacking grounded romance, this is one solid entry I can easily recommend to everyone.

Honestly, there was nothing really wrong with this and it could be very sweet, I just didn't feel invested in the relationship or any of the characters to any great extent. Sasaki and Miyano were clearly very good for each other, and it was nice to witness the slow burn of their relationship over the course of the season and how they realise they like one another, but unfortunately my investment level remained fairly low. It was nice seeing a soft and relatively sweeter BL anime though, especially considering this genre can tend towards the quite problematic. The relationship was very sweet, developed at a natural place and was consensual, plus their friends were very accepting. The way they bonded over BL manga was also something a little different. I am glad that I watched this and will definitely check out the manga at this point, which I hope I'll click with more.

This anime is like sitting on a couch in the midst of a winter afternoon, curled up in a blanket, with a fresh cup of hot chocolate snug in your hands. It's wholesome, it's adorable, it's sweet - and it makes me happy. Whenever I need to put a smile on my face, I simply load up this anime and my day is instantly brightened. For a dose of instant serotonin, I'll load up episode 12 - and get ready to enjoy the best episode the romance genre of anime has to offer. Don't believe me? I suppose you'll just need to go see for yourself! (PS: While the original Japanese cast does a wonderful job, I recommend giving the English dub a try for one of the best English performances in anime. Do it just for Sasaki, you won't be disappointed!)

just my personal feelings n reactions not a critical analysis!! it was cute! i didn’t feel SUPER attached to the main characters’ dynamic. they’re both verrrry normal high school students with no outstanding merits or abilities. no sad deep backstories either. and their dynamic wasn’t anything worth screaming over for me haha. but like, it was cute! it was nice, it was relaxing, it was something wholesome and low-key to sit back and watch. it is verrrry slowwww……………….and honestly sasaki could have been more aggressive in pursuing miyano LOL. but ye respecting boundaries is cool nd good!!! and in the end they get together woo! i’m looking forward to s2 and seeing what it will be like now that they’re in a relationship. it’s a very wholesome relationship haha. side charas were nice too! love that they had supportive friends, and their friends were all so sweet to their own girlfriends haha. would love to see more of the girl characters instead of just blank faces lol. i feel like they only wanted to focus on male characters and like…….why. this anime was pretty cheesy/corny esp moments when the weird shapes would appear. but it’s ok, nothing offensive or wrong about some cheesiness. I feel like they portrayed the feelings of first love pretty well!! The nervousness + excitement, butterflies, blushing, awkwardness, can't stop thinking about them. Albeit dramatized it is what it feels like to fall in love! I’m not attached enough to this series to read the manga but I still want more content - so I’m really glad they’re making a second season! I’ll definitely watch it.

Short and sweet! I love this anime it was super enjoyable, the chemistry and romance between the characters was cleverly built up and felt super real and not fake at all. It had me dying to see the leads even hold hands. I feel like this anime will have a special place in my heart ong it was so adorable!! The story draws you in tightly and will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next, the supporting characters are great and have depth to them too, not only does the story, but all characters are well rounded and add depth to the main characters too. If you haven't seen this anime yet i definitely recommend that you do!!

Sasaki to Miyano is one of the very few anime I watched this year. This is due to me hearing praises about the source material and deciding now the best time to jump into it. I don't really watch many BL series I do occasionally read a few but often the more problematic ones are the ones greenlit for a TV anime. Imagine my surprise when watching this show and falling in love with its cast. Really this show doesn't really explore new ground at least for me but I find it to be a beautiful BL romance with a great cast of characters. Outside of character interaction and romance Sasaki to Miyano doesn't really have many elements to it. It looks quite good and sounds decent overall if a bit forgettable. Outside of these elements if the romance or characters don't draw you in theirs any real point in watching it. If your looking for a sweat same-sex romance with a great supporting cast then this show is for you but know that's really all it can offer. Overall, I am excited for season 2's release and can't wait for more Sasaki to Miyano.

honestly, it was good. i liked the plot and how their relationship developed. the only thing i didn't like was mmm okay; it was like any other shoujos. except, sasaki is actually really kind and gentle(unlike most shoujo character). i also liked his reactions. he was great. miyano?? well.. he's okay. he's really cute and very sweeet, can speak his mind too. but he's just plain? sasaki helps out with his family's bakery. miyano?? i don't really see him much outside of school. its like his sole purpose is to go on a train and go to school. idk but i'd like to see more of him outside of school. but then again, in the manga, he was pretty much in his bedroom, jsut shut inside lol. there was this episode where they went to the movies tgther but thats all(in the anime)

This is the perfect example of a good positive love story leading into a relationship. Story: 10 out 10 It's just nice to watch a wholesome love story. I don't know what else to say because it's all I wanted for this genre. Art: 10 out 10 It's cute. It has that shoujo feel. Sound: 9 out 10 Cute OP and ED but can't think of any catchy OST. Character: 10 out 10 I rooted for Sasaki. He was so patient for Miyano. The audience could see how much Sasaki cared and thought about Miyano's feelings first before his own. He's a good boy. I love Miyano. He's precious. Must protect. Honestly the way he talks about BL with the big bright shiny eyes is me when I talk about anime. So cute. I also love the Senpais and Kouhais. Enjoyment: 10 out 10 I was invested in their relationship from the first meet to their final conclusion. The subject of love is complicated and complex. Sometimes relationships can't easily to be put into words or into categories. It's all about the present and being honest. Overall: 10 out 10 I can finally say this. This is one of my favorite BLs. I highly recommend.

I loved every second of it. I enjoyed this BL so much. It was very wholesome, the characters were so pure and immaculate. Sasaki is so respectful and caring. The way he is so considerate about Miyano’s feelings says a lot about his character, he raised my standard. He is very precious. Miyano is really kind and loving, must protect. Loved the dynamic. The side characters were so chill and supportive made me want to be that type of friend. Loved how everything was smooth sailing , no drama only love. This anime felt like a safe place. It gave me butterflies. Would love to see more of them.
