So,Chainsaw Man anime adaptation was the most anticipated anime, not just of the season, but of the entire year. And let me tell you,MAPPA really outdid themselves. The production quality is so high and it achives some kind of movie-like experience. The music is topnotch, and every episode has its unique ending song. The story is great, and as a manga reader,it gets even better. The basic summary of the story is that a poor, horny teenager named Denji that lives with his devil pet Pochita, which is a dog with a chainsaw on its head, has had a father who passed away, but was in great debt,so the yakuza want the money back.Denji however can't pay the money back,so instead he uses Pochita to fight devils. This is the first half of the first episode, but let me tell you,the story takes a big turn.I can reccomend this to anyone, cause nothing is wrong with it and it is very fun and fast(4 chapters an episode).

Is grabbing t*ts grounds for a 10/10? Ah yes, we are once again graced with another cookie cutter Shonen of the season, and as always, its score is heavily influenced by manga fans, tweens and edge lords who think gory = God tier. But before you go on a rant on me and how I dared diss your 736th 10/10 anime hear me out. It was a decently enjoyable show, infect a fine show, a 7/10 show. As an anime only, and especially one who started watching the anime right before it ended this season it was astonishing how people went from a hype train to calling an all-out hate war over the animators and its adaptation; So naturally I was interested to see how badly they F***ed up. But to my surprise it was just...Fine? Am I missing something or did y'all finally grow up? when I sat down to watch another Shonin anime that follows those same patterns, I got pretty much what I expected so the lesson here is to utterly ignore manga readers. Now the first few episodes and the worldbuilding in general kept reminding me of Jujutsu Kaisen and I'm not sure if this is a new trend in Shonin set by, I assume Demon Slayer, but the Gore heavy Spirit hunting is slowly becoming the repetitive norm for Shonin Bots. The dark yet not so spooky psychological tone which seems to always tickle SingleH's Dopamine receptors was fine but somehow, I can imagine it being better received in Manga format. As for the story the only thing that really stood out to me was our protagonists goofy oversexualized ambitions, and boy as a dude they are relatable AF, but the rest was too generic and slightly rushed. I'm hinting at that 2-episode training arc which really didn't show character growth or a Sensei Student bond it was just there Cuz it had to follow the tropes. The animation was spot on and while it wasn't the most beautiful piece of media I had consumed it was a pleasure seeing how well CG tech have evolved over the past few years and how they were used to add a bit more dynamic life to the scenes and objects. As for the Music, I can't really say it was good or bad, but it defiantly was forgettable. There were brief moments where the music really came through, but they were few and far between sullied by generic action music during the fights. Overall, I'd say it's worth a watch but it's nothing really that special

Chainsaw Man. Probably the most hyped-up new anime that I have ever seen before. Now the question is, did it live up to the hype? For the most part, I have to say yes. I think Mappa did a fantastic job, and you can definitely tell that a lot of care was put into adapting the extremely popular manga. Now while I dont think this anime is perfect, it definitely does a lot of things right. Art: 10 The art is absolutely fantastic, now I do understand that the use of CGI is a touchy subject, but I think the CGI was used to the anime’s benefit and all the fight scenes were action-packed and super fluid. As for the music, there's not really a lot to say here… except that it was fire. When an anime gets twelve different endings that are really good in their own way. Not really much else you can ask for. Characters: 9 For starters, I think Denji is written very well. Since his upbringing was the way it was, his actions throughout the anime make a lot of sense. Then you factor in the other really good characters this anime has to offer, like Aki, Power, and Himeno, and it gives you a good cast that meshes pretty well with each other. Story: 7 To be totally honest while I dont think the plot is bad, I feel like the characters did a lot of the heaving lifting. I also can clearly see that they are building something and in future seasons this rating might become a 9 or a 10 but being totally fair not a lot happened throughout this season, and I think there was room for improvement. Overall, Chainsaw Man was an enjoyable experience and I’m going to give it 8 Pochita’s out of 10.

CSM is one of my favorite manga and I had been waiting for the anime to come out for a while. Did it live up to the hype? Most definitely yes. First off, the animation is arguably the best I’ve ever seen. The lighting, movement and the CGI are FLAWLESS. MAPPA adapted it perfectly. I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I’ve never seen CGI this good in an anime. You can barely tell 2D and CGI apart (except for the first episode) and it’s also used so damn sparingly. The CGI was a controversial subject, but i think MAPPA made the right choice. Seeing these characters fleshed out with voice acting and movement elevated this series to new heights. Especially Power’s and Himeno’s voice actors did amazingly. When the VA’s were announced I didn’t know what to think about it, considering they’re not very experienced, but in the end, it was the best choice they could have made. Another thing that stood out to me was the cinematography. Everything is drawn in such a realistic way, and the angles they use in the episodes are just stunning to look at. Fantastic job by the director. The soundtrack by Kensuke Ushio is flawless and very memorable too. There may not have been many songs, but they were used perfectly. I will definitely be revisiting it. On the topic of OST’s, I also really liked how every episode had a different ending song. My favorite ED’s are definitely DOGLAND and Fight Song, which is to be expected as I’m a massive Eve fan, but i genuinely cannot name a single ED I disliked. All of them fit with the episodes/characters and were very well animated too. I’m looking forward to next season, as that will be where things REALLY start escalating. The best episodes were, in my opinion, episode 7, 9 and 12. With my favorite character this season being Aki. He’s one of the best written deuteragonists in anime. This is, without a doubt, a strong Anime Of The Year contender. The only flaw it has is that the first episode had questionable CGI, but I’m so damn glad they improved on that. Final Rating: 9.5/10. The anime is elevating Chainsaw Man to new heights for me. I think I’ve watched every episode at least 7 times. I’m very hyped for next season.

Somebody called Chainsaw Man "Dorohedoro for Zoomers" and that's honestly the best description I could give of what this show ended up being like; though I think it juuuust misses the mark to being great and merely ends up being good - I'd rate it a solid 7/10. My biggest problem - and I think what will turn most people off of this show - is the humor. I've read a lot about how clever and "ironic" it is, and now it "cuts through the tension" by making this generally rather dark show more palatable and less heavy, but to me personally it's by far the worst thing about Chainsaw man and the thing that makes it so different from Dorohedoro. Dorohedoro, written by a woman, had very little sexual humor or fanservice in it - most of the humor was centered around gore, and how absurdly brutal and relentless the world itself is - the humor was (for the most part) just as dark as the show and its characters. You often felt bad for even laughing at the jokes in Dorohedoro. The humor is chainsaw man - for the most part, revolves around Denji being a horny idiot. And yeah, you can argue that its on theme - its not that weird for a 16 year old blockhead surrounded by beautiful women to be somewhat vulgar: He wants to touch Powers breasts, he wants to finally kiss a woman, he wants to sleep with Makima, everything always seems to revolve around sex or shit like, kicking somebody in the balls. Don't get me wrong, I am no prude, you are talking to a guy who gave Highschool DxD an 8/10, but I personally find this kind of humor to be incredibly misplaced in this show and negatively affecting the atmosphere: The dark, gritty atmosphere hits like a truck in some episodes, my favorite moments are after a certain characters death, and thats when I personally find the show to be at its best. Sometimes I feel like Chainsaw man couldn't decide whether it wants to be a show for a teenagers or a show for adults. For me, all the "I want to touch boobs hehe" humor just takes away from the rest of the show, and leaving that aside, even taken at face value the jokes aren't any good and fall pretty flat. There are A TON of better shows with well done crude/sexual humor. I will say that I think the first couple of episodes are the worst in this regard, and the second half of the show is significantly stronger; I would recommend people who find the premise interesting but are turned off by the humor to stick with it, it does get better. When Chainsaw man is at its best, it feels like I am watching a top tier seinen anime; at its worst, it feels like I am watching a very mediocre shounen anime. If it committed entirely to its dark, gritty world and the story, which is about a rather hopeless fight against evil, where the good guys not only need to make sacrifices (like giving up body parts) to gain powers, but also frequently die in the line of duty, it would easily be my anime of the year. I could write more about other aspects of this show, but I honestly don't have that much to say: The animations (in my eyes) are well done and I honestly don't mind the CGI, the plot is kind of basic, but interesting enough to keep you hooked, the setting is creative and engaging, the character writing is strong (particularly for Aki; you want to see what ends up happening to everybody), and the music (especially that freaking opening) is good. If you don't mind the immature humor this show is absolutely worth watching.

Chainsaw Man provides an experience like no other. At every turn, Ryu Nakayama surprised me with his unique take on a story I must've already read ten times over. And though some may critique the cinematic approach, I personally found it endearing all the way through. Not because I'm some movie buff, but because it allowed me to experience and enjoy Chainsaw Man for the first time all over again. The CGI is an after thought, and at worst noticeable. Whereas the sakuga fests spliced inbetween serve to consistently set the bar of what an anime should look like. Though I won't get into spoilers, I highly recommend seeing at least the entire first season through; Chainsaw Man is much more than the mere monster of the week it so cleverly chooses to advertise itself as.

Never read the manga so I went into it blind. The show's plot is decent, but for the most part, everything feels empty. The characters don't feel like actual people, Denji seems like he could be a lot funnier/more interesting but he just says dumb stuff. The only episode that was remotely interesting was episode 8 because something actually happened. Every episode leading up to it felt like I was watching filler. The show doesn't really give any of the characters motives or personalities until after episode 8 and even then it feels forced. Then there's the animation. I don't keep up with anime studios and all that so when I learned it was the same place that did AOT I really didn't care. What I did care about was how horrible the frame rates for the cgi were and how a lot of scenes that weren't even action used them. It felt like I was watching a PS2 game cutscene. Overall the show as okay and I'll probably read the manga to see what all the hype is about, but I definitely wouldn't recommend this unless it's to keep up with popular shows.

Gun to my head to rewatch the chainsaw man anime. I say pull the trigger. Unbridled garbage that genuinely feels like they just spun a wheel for story plot beats and why they present it like that. Some guy probably got a raise for that, I lied, they basically slaved away on this with how awful the working conditions were. The best part of the anime was the endings, in a literal sense, as they had the most unique concept and presentation. The fact that I was looking forward to what the credits scene would be is not the thing you want people to be wishing for. This is literally the only reason this is not rated a 1 like it should be.

Love the chainsaw man I would like to say that the anime is incredibly beautiful, incredibly KINO. The chainsaw man was really on the throne when anime been released. But all this animation costs money and time. So it's no wonder that the Reze movie has become simpler. But I don't think that's a bad thing. No. It's cool that we have such an unusual anime in terms of animation But it will be even more cooler when a people will see the whole story. After all, plot and characters is the most important thing in chainsaw man I recommend anime to everyone, you may never see anime of this quality again

Chainsaw man is a supernatural (obviously) buddy-cop drama about the nuanced relationship between ambition and empathy in the dehumanizing context late-stage capitalism. Denji is a cynical hoodlum who gains the power the power to go absolute sicko mode from his vampiric battery-operated dog. He is recruited by a government-sanctioned petplay enthusiast to partner with Sausuke Ichihara and an autism-coded Zero Two. The characters all feel shamelessly authentic, and some of its most engaging moments are when its action-thriller premise gives way to slice-of-life and coming-of-age scenes where the personalities and their chemistry shine. Feels like a fusion of Hellboy and One-Punch Man.

Short Review: Very close to a 9, pending further adaptation (I haven't read the manga). Essentially, like a spiritual successor to FLCL, CSM is high-stakes, hilarious, endearing, action-packed, has great characters and character catharsis while dealing with serious themes that others in its genre would never think to touch, yet executes its portrayal of such themes in such a masterful way. I also believe that this story is sort of a subversion of the harem genre — being a critique of harems that portray young boys that get smothered and loved by older women. Such shows that it subverts portray these interactions as being playful and fun. Meanwhile, CSM shows us that if such interactions were to actually occur to a young kid, then we should see the adults involved as absolutely gross and totally manipulative. CSM is doing the Lord's work through just this aspect of the show alone.

Probably one of the best shounen to come out in a while. It’s very intense and is absolutely visually amazing. The characters feel like real, genuine people. All the action feels fun, cinematic, and brings me back to 2013-2015 when clipping certain anime fights for YouTube was the hypest shit ever. Using MAPPA as the studio for Chainsaw Man was definitely the best move you could make. I don’t see anyone else doing it better than them with how this thing looks. I very much came into it purely because of Makima, but everything else really sold me. I even moved on to the manga just so I could have more the experience. Didn’t have a whole lot of anime in 2022 that I liked, but this was for sure one of them that I loved.

Chainsaw Man did for me everything Jujutsu Kaisen fails to do, even today with it's Shibuya Incident arc. CSM doesn't rely on willpower, the power of friendship, or Chi to give it's characters fighting abilities and reasons to win. It's just kinda silly and disturbing at the same time. Visually, far more interesting than most modern shounens because sometimes, less is more. I don't even know WHY I liked CSM so much, only that I rewatched it immediately when the dub came out and I think I had even more fun than the first viewing. The slow pace artistic directorial choice is by far my favourite thing about the show. It's something that has been missing from shows for a very long time. There's actual silence in the show, no heavy reliance on music to make me feel a certain way. It just is. I think of CSM a fun filled experience, not necessarily something that is deeper that it needs to be. It just is.
DISKOWN
Chainsaw Man is an average series that lacks originality. The story and characters have potential, unfortunately neither are fully realized in this season. It does not help that the animation is inconsistent and the use of CG is distracting. The series follows closely to the manga, which while largely a good thing, has its drawbacks. The anime suffers from sluggish pacing and unnecessary exposition dumps that do little to enhance or add value to the narrative. Unfortunately, Chainsaw Man's multiple shortcomings hinder its ability to stand out in a crowded genre, and fans may find it more rewarding to read the manga instead.

I've never seen a thing as cringe as this anime. How the hell can you be in lack of s*x to apreciate this anime for virgin ? Only s*x , boo*s , ki*s , wow , it's SO CRINGE , i couldn't continue anymore , the story is "i want to have s*x " , wow , will i touch bo*bs ? " To be continued " . So thrilling , LOL. Really guys , you REALLY want to see the next episode when there is a " to be continued " affter the heroe is gonna touch b*obs ? You know you can watch true series, like blue lock , dr stone , kimetsu no yaiba .... Why do you want to see this ? Wtf, how this could have more than 2/10..... It's a terrible reflection of how our society sink to the abyss, so much boys in lack of s*x and constrained to watch isekais , hentais , to imagine his life. Sad.

This anime adaption of Chainsaw Man was FIRE!!! defiantly one of the best show I watched after I read the manga. Story: Very intriguing and insane. Pacing: On track even tho there's one part got skip but it was fine, it was Fujimoto's decision during adaptation. Characters: Denji is a vibe during the show where his dream wants to have what normal life that other people have like, getting a girl, what good food taste like, freedom, ETC. Aki is on a different story on his case where he's serious about his job to eliminate devils and no stopping no matter what, which I like that. Power is amazing, she is just being herself having some goofy shenanigans. Makima is built different during the story. Animation: Amazingly good. so yeah this series became one of my favorite manga and anime of all time, I suggest to give Chainsaw Man a try cuz this show was an absolute rollercoaster.

Chainsaw Man suffered under the weight of its own praise. It isn't a bad show by any means, but the desire to defend it or bash it has created a warped reality of this show in discussions that has skewed perspectives towards black and white. The reality of this show is much more middling, MAPPA's production schedule catching up to it and the story of CSM having a seemingly very slow start made this season of the series a let down for the near universal hype it had ahead of release. MAPPA bit off more than it could chew with this. The definition of "doing too much" in terms of direction, CSM had a new ending theme each week, which made none of them memorable like the opening was. Many of the scenes were filled to the brim with movement, which came across as visually jumbled and the animation itself looking just downright odd because it was so smooth. There was an attempt to blend CGI with animation in a way where the transition wouldn't be visually jarring, but the effort to do that was misguided, the anime's style generic and pretty when it needed to be gorier and harder. The style was just non-existent and CGI scenes are just a point where MAPPA remains weak. The sunset, dreamy color palette was a miss, muting the show in a way that seemed to mimic Netflix lighting rather than the dynamic older horror movies CSM pays homage to. I was expecting Hellsing Ultimate or even Dorohedoro, but this just feels like a very corporate and dated approach to animation. The story and characters are all fine. Right now, nothing seems to reinvent the wheel and big plot beats are rather predictable. If you've seen enough shonen, you've seen this show no matter how off-centered and crazy things get. The most intriguing was Denji's very subtle shift from selfishness to almost self-consciousness, desiring to fit in and perhaps desiring to be loved and known by people around him. He has a lot of room to grow as a person and a character because his start is a very ugly person. I'm curious to see where he goes, but in a 12 episode seasonal, we didn't get that far, we barely got the overarching plot. Just as an FYI, I haven't read the manga. There is no reason someone shouldn't watch the show and there really isn't a reason someone should either. Perhaps future seasons will change my thoughts on this, but the product as it currently is can best be encapsulated as fine.

This is the only prequel to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. After the highly successful Jujutsu Kaisen, MAPPA is back with another bizarre shonen. MAPPA is not a stranger to CGI animation. Doroheroro and the new Attack on Titan are prime examples. Even though there’s clear usage of CGI, the animation for Chainsaw Man felt different. The action scenes looked significantly smoother and more realistic compared to Dorohedoro. It is like a mixture with hand-drawn animation. One thing I loved about Jujutsu Kaisen is the characters. They all had weird and care-free personalities that made them standout and memorable. Chainsaw Man characters are on a whole new level though. Denji, for example, is not your typical shonen protagonist with a righteous moral compass. Instead, he had small, seemingly bizarre yet relatable and practical goals. Not only were the characters weird, they were also mysterious. Makima is a prime example. There’s still a lot to unpack, but every time she appears, there’s always a sense of uneasiness that radiated from her. Her and the other characters create an uncomfortable atmosphere that I have never seen before in a shonen anime. Also unconventional was the storytelling. Jujutsu Kaisen and Dorohedoro are both weird anime, but there’s clear senses of directions in their stories. Chainsaw Man though, is almost completely unpredictable. There are parts that came out of nowhere and just left me in utter shock. Prime example is that episode 8 that made me in shell-shock and loss for words. I have never experienced that since The Red Wedding from GOT. There’s a lot of uniqueness in this anime that I appreciated. However, not everything landed, and I still feel conflicted about some parts of the story. I think that overtime this anime will grow more on me, and I will love it even more. 8.5-9/10

~~ This isn't going to be a review, but an appreciation message to an adaptation that I am so in love with. One that elevates the source material and makes the anime feel like a completely new cinematic experience. ~~ It feels kinda empty, now that the series is over. I am writing this while tearing up from joy mixed with sadness. I've been hyped and excited about this anime for a long time and wasn't disappointed by it at all. In fact, I have enjoyed every moment of it and it's truly the best anime that I witnessed getting adapted since I joined the anime community in 2014. The amount of love and care that was put into crafting every little detail in it is astounding. Seeing some people say the adaptation wasn't that great, needs a remake and that it needs new staff members makes me lose hope in humanity. But again, it's to be expected to get hate when it's a new show, especially one that doesn't sound like most generic shows that get produced nowadays. And to the ones complaining about the CGI, it clearly shows that you are simply ignorant drama queens that can do nothing in life but complain. This anime although definitely had its own flaws, it didn't affect my overall experience and enjoyment. Everything from the direction, the visuals, the storyboarding, the additional scenes that added that extra little something to the show, the OSTs and the new EDs every week, were all perfect. I am simply happy and I hope to get to witness the rest of the series get adapted with the same passion that was present during this. In the end, I am just going to say to anyone who reads this, is to give it a try, experience its beauty on your own and be open-minded so you could truly enjoy it as it is cause it's worth it.

Let’s start with the elephant in the room when it comes to the Chainsaw Man adaptation of the masterpiece manga by Fujimoto – the tone of the anime is almost a complete 180 difference from the manga. I think when we all saw that first CSM trailer drop last year, we knew MAPPA was going to bring a cinematic quality to this anime in particular, that you see absolutely nowhere else in the industry. That’s pretty much what we got, a movie grade anime series with production quality similar to the likes of movies from Shinkai Makoto. What MAPPA did not do with CSM is capture it’s chaotic “chainsaw man pacing” that the series is so famous for. Is that a detriment to the anime or does it take away from the original material? In my opinion, no, instead MAPPA has delivered one of the best, first 12 episode run of a shounen of all time. If you don’t know what CSM is about at this point because you refuse to accept peak fiction, or you’ve been living under a rock – then allow me to introduce you into the world of Fujimoto’s deranged brain. CSM source material borrows lots of traits from your traditional shounen, even going so far as to clone the main trio’s personality to that of the classic Naruto’s main cast, albeit to elevating results. What follows beyond this, however, is a wonderful blend of worldbuilding, pacing, and characters. There is a quality to this anime that even goes beyond its cinematic flair, almost like it’s a time capsule for the future. We’ll look back on this show and be able to pinpoint it as the place where anime took a turning point to the next “stage” if you will. I know what some will say, CGI. In my assessment of most anime, none will ever come close to the quality and resourcefulness of utilizing CGI as MAPPA has done with CSM. Even going so far as to do such a good job of masking the CGI with 2D that people online where confusing inbetweener frames for CGI in the first episode when they were in fact, 2D drawn. I don’t know what MAPPA is feeding the animators at the studios, or NOT feeding them, but they went god mode on the animation for the fights in this show. It’s not just the fact that they were able to faithfully adapt the fights and do one for one shots from the manga, but they took creative liberties with how they stretched or shortened time in some of these fights. I think this gives the anime its own identity that is different from the manga, and if those want a full CSM universe experience, anime only watchers should go and read the manga to compare because each have their own expression when it comes to telling the story that Fujimoto has crafted. There’s not much more I can say about this anime that hasn’t already been said. CSM is awesome, its beyond spectacularly produced and if the quality remains for the coming seasons – whenever they release – then CSM is bound to reach goat status of any anime *ever*. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be Fujimoto right now, seeing the popularity of his flagship manga reach all-time highs, combined with the flexibility his publisher gives him to right one shots, plus the pristine quality of his manga adaptation that happens to be even more of a celebration of Fujimoto then he probably ever imagined. It’s no secret Fujimoto loves films, but the fact that he was able to work alongside the production staff in story boarding, script writing, key framing – it just seems like Fujimoto has a bright future ahead of him at this point in his career, just as Satoshi Kon did when he wrote OPUS. Long live chainsaw man, the best anime this year and perhaps one of the all-time greats, only time will tell. Also, they made Kobeni 10x cuter, Himeno 100x badder and Makima 1000x more mommy. Power is still best girl though.
