This dude caught lightning in a bottle with Death Note. After that he fell off for real. Every moment of this absolute drivel was a miserable experience. From the edgy r/athiesm discussions that lasted for episodes to the nonsensical ending, every piece of this absolute garbage was straining to get through. It got so boring, in fact, that my friends and I created an entire alternate plot in the middle of it. Characters change intention on a whim, powers are introduced and conveniently forgotten about, everyone stands around and argues with one another while making stereo-typical anime bullshit "I thought 10 steps ahead of you". I'm sick of it, I really am. And then they let literally the least developed, most inconsequential character win at the end for absolutely no reason other than because the author really needed to impose his nihilistic views on everyone. If this is the quality of work this dude is going to put out in the future, I hope he has some of that Death Note money left. Garbage fire. 1/10

Platinum end wasn’t as bad as what people were saying. This review will not go in depth on the entire story and talk about what it does step by step because that’s too much and no one cares. People need to stop thinking that this show is death note 2.0 because it’s not. platinum end is its own story with no connection’s what’s so ever. Yes, the themes are kind of similar, but very different. The story starts like this god is dying and needs a successor in 999 days. He sends 13 angles that symbolize certain things like purity, destruction, games, emotions and so on to Japan to find God's candidates. The candidates must be people who are willing to die by suicide since they want to make the world a better place. The concept of the story revolves around the ideas of religion heavily, but not to overpower that. It’s like saying this is an anime of religion and all about gods with crazy powers. The theme focuses on more realistic modern element’s wealth, happiness, love, death, science, loneliness, fear, depression, hope and more. People overall want to be happy and what would they do to have it? The characters throughout the show are interesting. Other than the main characters who throughout lean on each other to develop further, the others are supporting characters for a reason. All the characters had their own unique problems why they want to die and why they either want to be God or not. The show focuses on more of the humane way of how we all think. This show really kept me thinking about how there’s so many things in the world that you would thing make different outcomes can all lead to one. Everyone has their own thoughts and feelings. Some can deny the thoughts of other. Can killing one person be better than many people dying? Are sacrifices worth it or not? I think if you like a show that throws tough questions and makes you think about what the world is like, then I think you should watch it. To be honest, many people who say they watch anime are people who only think narrow and only watch the main trending shows and don’t really respect anime for what it is. I wouldn’t even bother reading the reviews that gave it a 5 or below or stopped watching it all the way through. There are a lot of animes out there that get misunderstood or low rating because of people who almost belittle everything about it. So, what if it’s got echi in it, or gore, or somewhat of a lacking plot? The author made it this way for a reason and you can’t just focus on one thing in the show; See the bigger picture. This show made me see the bigger picture, and that was is there a god? I’m an atheist, but this show did really make me stop and think.

If I were 14 years old, I would have probably liked this anime. I would have thought that it was very profound and interesting. But I'm older. I'm mature enough to understand that it's not. Platinum End is the third work from the Ohba-Obata creative team, the same that gave us Death Note sixteen years ago. Yes, it has been sixteen years since Death Note has ended and has become the favourite manga and anime for people who have never read or seen other manga or anime. They also made Bakuman, but no one seem to know. Anyway, Platinum End has been considered the spiritual follower of Death Note, a definition that makes me shiver. I would actually say that Platinum End is the opposite of Death Note. Platinum End starts with a guy named Mirai (which means "future", funny, isn't it?) that tries to kill himself, but is saved by an angel named Nasse. This angel gives him angel wings and two angelic arrows, one that is red and makes you fall in love with him and the other one that is white and kills whoever is hit by it. Mirai is part of a competition between him and other 12 people who, in 999 days, must decide who will be the new God. The point of all the series, just like Death Note and many other work of fiction, is to show that humans are disgusting and they would do anything for power and so on. But at least Death Note was able to make some interesting point about justice and was actually compelling to read and watch (at least, until the end of the first part). Platinum End becomes stupid after the first episode. Because we see the entrance on the battlefield of Metropoliman, one of the most stupid, uninteresting, cliché comic book villain I have ever seen. It's one of those parodies of rich people that is so idiotic that makes me think something like that one of the authors met a rich person, hated it and wanted to make him or her the bad guy of a work of fiction to get some revenge. If you watch PE on Crunchyroll, it says that it is for "mature viewing", but I think that anyone over the age of 21 would laugh at the moral discussions that happens in this anime. People seriously discussing things like "I would like to become God so that people who commit suicide will be praised", or the fact that a person says "If I become God, I wouldn't do anything" and a character has an epiphany over that are two of my favourite moments from this exhibition of filth. There are so many discussions and dialogues that are so abysmal I could make a compilation, name it "these lines were written by a human being" and put it on youtube for your entertainment. But it would be too long, I would have to put up all the series. Maybe without the ending, because it's so bad that it wouldn't make you laugh. Even from an aesthetic point of view, Platinum End fails terribly. The art style is mediocre, but what actually strikes me is the terrible direction. For the first part there are some moments in which I thought I was watching a Jojo parody, when the color palette violently shifts like how it happens in the first season of the Jojo anime. After that, the direction becomes much more average, for our boredom's joy. The anime doesn't have a coherent tone and the pace is incredibly slow: it could have last 18 episodes, since the two major battles that happen in the series both last 3 episodes and are incredibly slow. Also, how can it be considered funny watching people shooting arrow at each other while flying at high speed? There is no possibility for stealth, no other strategies aside from making someone else intervene. The music, at least, is worth some praise, some pieces where really good. Also, do I really have to talk about an episode in which we nearly see a graphic scene of sex between two 14-years old girls? What is this, an hentai? Platinum End would like to be yet another morality play on power, life, death and divinity, but it not only fails at trying to give any kind of insight on these themes, it also fails at being even remotely interesting. At least, the other inspiration for this work, Mirai Nikki, was fun to watch. This is boring too. Do yourself a favour and skip this thing.

It was suppose to be a good anime if it only ended in episode 23, but alas, how it ended ad why all the atheist remarks were just as puzzling as what the fuck is going on in the mind of the original creator, Tsugumi Ohba's mind as in his creation, it describe as God being a weak minded entity ( God Forgive me), so here is my take for this anime. Story: Pros: It was very good at first when you see the main character Mirai go through all kinds of hell from his uncle who abuses him and trets him like shit. For the most part, one will sympathize the main character for what he has to go through from childhood to Middle school, and one can't blame him if he wants to ends his life and if he happens to be this much of a good guy who doesn't want to inflict harm to others regardless of how evil they are....... Cons: When that God Candidate Selection begun and the Big man himself for some reason decided to relinquish his power of being God to somebody who would pass his selection process, this becomes outrageous given that as the Big Man, he would have had the power to either punish or simply just ignore the peoples rant on him... Verdict: 8 over 10. Art: Pros: Cute girls uniform in Saki and her friend. Cons: No general Angel illustrations , in fact each angel around here have it's own design. Verdict: 4 over 10 Sound: Pros: Nothing to say. Cons: Nothing to say either, since I just don't give a damn as to who did who. Verdict: 4 over 10 Character: Pros: As I've said, this anime maybe about the God Candidate selection, but here the thing, why people who wanna end their lives and those with malicious intent were the ones chosen, and why were them angels were given such freedom to choose at random as if they themselves were very much oblivious as to who makes a good God Candidate , when in fact we were made to see that them Angel were both the bad and the good based on their selection.....As for the protagonist, we have Mirai, a young guy whose life was a never ending hell under his relatives care, whom has a hand in killing his loving parents, him simply empathize us audience to his suffering and just like I've said, we can't blame him for being that weak and wanting to end his life, we have Saki, who feels guilty for not standing up for Mirai, and she too we can't blame for wanting to end her life. But as for the Antagonist like Kanade , well, he can be classified as a lucifer wannabe given that his wish of wanting to be a God, was for selfish means. There is also Yoneda who basically a typical Atheist that was determine to prove that God doesn't exist, even though he has angel besides him, thought the two did performed their antagonistic roles very good ..... but. Cons: Why the Angels themselves never predicted that Hajime will eventually end everything that the pervious God has created was the big loop hole, despite of being a God himself he still thinks like a loser, in fact he's the anti-climatic thing around here, that I felt disgusted that rather than a happy ending it becomes a tragic ending for mankind and the world. Verdict: 7 over 10. Enjoyment: Pros: It was both something that you'll sympathize and feel the characters emotion, be it antagonist or protagonist , one would really feel their lives as to how much they've suffered. Cons: How it ended was simply anti climatic. Verdict: 8 over 10. Overall: Verdict 1 over 10. In short I hated the way the Original Creator desecrated the belief about God and portraying him as an entity who has human like limitation on his emotions......to be honest, though this was good, but being a devoted Catholic I cannot forgive the original creator for such desecration of religion......definitely not for someone with high belief of a supreme being of having human like emotions.

SPOILER-FREE! Dark storytelling is a gamble. On the one hand, it allows you to explore aspects of the human condition, action, or philosophy that affords a great wealth of interpretations and territories to explore. On the other hand, with such a giant sandbox to play in, it becomes all the more important to keep your vision in scale, and to probe the various treasures in a way that is both intellectually engrossing and digestible for the audience. It is indeed possible to be given an unpleasant subject, but still be drawn into the material. "Platinum End" was a two-cour Fall 2021 anime concerning gods and a candidacy trial that came from the original manga by Ohba Tsugumi and Obata Takeshi, the same duo responsible for Death Note. With such an acclaimed property as part of their output, I was intrigued by what could potentially result from another one of their collaborations. Nevertheless, I was mindful that this series is to be judged by its own merits rather than have a forced, undeserved expectation placed upon it. High school student Kakehashi Mirai, after enduring the death of his parents and the abuse of his aunt and uncle, throws himself off a building to commit suicide. He is saved however by Nasse, an angel who selects him to be a candidate for becoming the new God of the world, as the current God is dying. Gifted with wings, a Red Arrow that can force people to obey his commands, and a White Arrow that allows him to kill anyone in an instant, Mirai must fight in a battle royale style contest with the other God Candidates, and strive to attain happiness in his life. Among them include the mysterious Metropoliman, who will seemingly do anything to get his way, and Hanakago Saki, the childhood friend Mirai loves. With such a backdrop concerning God, life, and death, among other things, it makes it all the more important for your main character to be an interesting enough vehicle to have these themes center around. Because we are introduced to Mirai at his absolute lowest, where the very idea of continuing to live is considered too painful, it sets up the notion that his rescue by Nasse will help steer him in newer, more optimistic ways. The fact that he’s roped instead into a royale is therefore an effective bait-and-switch, showing that despite his rescue, Mirai’s problems have only just begun. Especially when it dawns on him what he’s capable of with the Red and White Arrows, the show paints early on just how grim Mirai’s place now is, and his desire to be happy seems like a worthwhile goal. However, the switch between Mirai being understandably and sympathetically at that low point and the new Mirai that we follow over the course of the story doesn’t coalesce. He makes the decision early on to never use his White Arrow to kill if he can help it, saying that killing in order to obtain happiness is not justifiable. Even taking that ideology into consideration, the show goes out of its way to show just how far Mirai’s philosophy will not buckle. Taking this course paints Mirai less as a praiseworthy saint and more as an insufferable monster of a different sort, someone who would be willing to let the other God Candidates allow the worst of the worst to transpire because of the naïve hope that a non-murderous third option exists. His resolute desire not to kill anyone is egregious given that certain characters perform actions that would be, putting it kindly, worthy of locking them up forever. It would be one thing if he were indeed dealing with regular humans, but God Candidates and their willing and unwilling accomplices are also involved, and that changes things. One remarkably-unsavory character was formerly imprisoned for murdering her female middle school classmates, and later after being released from prison, uses a Red Arrow to start raping and murdering middle school girls all over again. According to Mirai’s entire philosophy, this is a character who, despite all the horrific things that she has done, should not be killed. And in the moments where the people in the royale do end up getting killed somehow, Mirai is never the one who actually does the killing itself. Constantly wiping the protagonist’s hands clean reads more as a cop-out to keep his worldview stable rather than allowing it to become appropriately-jaded. He’s still an accessory to the killings even if he’s not the one who “did it,” but any potential shakeup internally that might result from these instances are too minor and glossed over. While one could reasonably argue that it is not important for that internal shakeup to be presented so explicitly, there is little evidence in the course of the narrative that hints at such a development taking place, or at least to the extent that it has a lasting value. Rather than actually delving into the nitty-gritty of these nebulous, conflicting ideologies and events, "Platinum End" is all too happy, so to speak, to handwave them away. The story is paralyzed by its own main character not really growing and developing, or any growth or development coming too late to carry the serious weight it demands. It may be an ensemble show, but as the main person whose story we follow in the plot, Mirai cannot muster a fascinating-enough character or motivation. The few times Mirai is appropriately challenged in his philosophy include Metropoliman, who primarily does so by virtue of being an antagonist (and his motivation for God candidacy is quite laughable), and Mukaido, a terminally-ill character who is more proactive in hunting Metropoliman down. Because Mukaido sees himself as a dead man walking, he places a different perspective and emphasis on his own sense of happiness. He clashes with Mirai in ways that directly respond to the present circumstances, both to himself and to the world at large. But Mirai’s status as the central character allows him to keep proselytizing about how dying and killing is bad, and his sentiment on finding happiness is echoed so many times and fleshed out so vaguely that I came to dread its inevitable appearances. And speaking of appearances, the actual aesthetic of the series is quite wanting. "Platinum End" is attempting to explore some of the more-pessimistic, darkest aspects of human existence, yet the amount of detail put into the visuals make it seem like things were hastily put together. The color palette was so oddly bland and absent stark contrasts, while stylized line work was almost entirely a no-show. The series seemed to keep that artistic stylization only for moments of particular intensity which, while making sense on paper, does not translate to an overall-engrossing experience. The tone of the entire series is one of a despairing, melancholic pathos, for which the aesthetic fails to commit to wholeheartedly. I recognize that this level of commitment is taxing, especially in the anime industry’s current climate, but stories that require it should be able to deliver. The soundtrack is the only element that feels true to this conviction, moving into a thicker, atmospheric nuance when the situation arises. But most damning of all is that the show does not have the tact or intellectual wherewithal to have the discussions it seeks. "Platinum End" relies too heavily on outrageous edginess to carry out its discourse rather than broaching the ideas with seriousness. Suicide, murder, and religion are not concepts that should be ruminated upon lightly, yet watching these twenty-four episodes, I questioned whether there was just a complete lack of self-awareness regarding this. The other Candidates’ worldviews or perceptions are so thinly-probed that the arguments, and the characters speaking them, read more as caricatures or imitations. One character introduced in the latter half uses his powers for the purposes of granting other people their suicidal intentions, and eventually his own, with unapologetic nihilism. The fact that this character on a nihilistic downward streak is temporari…

Platinum End...easily the most conflicted I've felt about an anime since Darling and the Franxx. I hate it when an anime starts out so strong and loses its footing by the end. In PE's case, this was 23 strong episodes, in my opinion, with the final episode ultimately being a dud and slightly ruining the story for me. Needless to say, spoilers ahead! I can honestly say this was nearly a 10 for me. The art is what stood out to me most. This includes character design in particular, but the show as a whole is beautiful. There are some scenes with the metropolitan man suit looking visually cgi/3d animated, but everything else held up. I would assume emphasizing the scale of heaven and it's figures would be tough. Just look at how many of Da Vinci's paintings are held in high regard that focus specifically on Christianity. But I loved the artwork. Heaven, though barren, felt ominous, warm, and otherworldly. Honestly, it's similar to how I would've pictured it, no clouds but vast open space where everything and nothing collide. The characters look great as well. Though the two main characters come across as lifeless at times, there is a clear progression of personality, or completed arcs. Seeing Mirai and Saki living happily together, and for me to be able to see that shift in their mentality, told me all I needed to know about them. They didn't need to speak since it was so evident what they were feeling. PE did an equally great job of character development as well. All the god candidates made sense to me. My feelings toward them ranged between love and hate, and I never felt disconnected at any point. Now, with that said, I can also safely say that their personalities didn't emulate anyone I've ever met, so yes I felt connected to them but never felt like I understood their motivations completely. It's almost as if humanity in this series was not the same humanity I experience everyday, it was something uncanny and difficult to describe. Still, I grew attached and appreciated each episode individually. i can't express this anymore than I already have, but I'll reiterate...this is a great show. But this is just my personal opinion. The topics can be heavy and there definitely are intense moments with genuinely evil characters, but that's part of what drew me in. A few scenes still live rent free in my memory because they were that intense. It's these few shocking moments that not only propel the story along, but it's almost like hitting a wall in the middle of a speech. If at any point there is starting to be too much dialogue or too little action, something will happen that sparks your interest. As much as I praise this series, there is still two factors that stood out as less than ideal in my eyes, and it's what I imagine others disliked as well. The only difference being how large a role theses factors played. First, which I've previously mentioned, is the ending. I was honestly on minor pins and needles throughout the series, concerned with the questions the series put forth. The existential elements that are addressed seemed to big for one season of one anime to answer: "Who is God, what is right/wrong, how should we view death, etc. These are all very big questions, and I believe attempting to provide an answer to these questions is where the series went wrong. Ultimately, the series went half and half with it...there is an ending but we're left with quite a few questions in the process. Honestly, I believe the series was created as a message of sorts. The message I perceived was that of pointlessness and purposelessness. A depressing message no doubt, so I hope my interpretations are incorrect. I can't describe the levels of disdain I have with this ending though. Saki and Mirai's dream to get married and live happily ever after, to instead fade into nothingness was eternally heartbreaking. For every action and reaction, every life saved, every death in the variety of horrible manners, the promotion to god, the act of killing oneself.......ALL OF THIS to ultimately mean nothing, was the worst way it could have ended! But at the same time, it's the most realistic (ish) way it could have ended. We all live and die, so is it so much of a crime to end the anime in an equally depressing manner? This is especially relevant for people who don't believe in God, because it all ultimately amounts to nothing in the end. Regardless, the series could have ended 15 minutes early and it would have had a drastic change on my opinion of the series overall. It's Shuji's death, that leads to humanity's death that I had qualms with. It's realistic and also not. it was a possible ending but an equally optional ending. The fact it could have ended with happiness instead of melancholy is why I rated the series slightly lower. Other than the ending voiding most of what good happened, there were a few other issues that could have been done better, which I'm certain is what lead to this series being viewed as not good: the action elements were hit and miss, character interactions sometimes felt alien, and some questions were left with no answer (with no sequel on the docket as far as I know, how could there be?). But even though I had qualms, it was still a worthwhile watch about a topic not typically explored. Additionally, the positives way outweigh the negatives for me, and I personally choose to not let the negatives taint what stood out as great to me initially. I plan on reading some other reviewers thoughts on the matter but wanted to get my review out before I read too many others, otherwise I may have had my opinion influenced. I hope this review can do something similar for others though, because I believe it's important to recognize everything this series has done right, which was quite a lot.

At the beggining I was kind of interested to this Anime. I wouldnt have missed cause it could´ve been the succesor of Death Note. In reality, it was far from that. Spoilers ahead The first half is not so bad, with Kanade as the main Villain the series has a sense and somehows makes itself watchable. However, after his death everything becomes absolute bullshit. The new characters that they introduce are lame and contribute practically nothing to the story. And the final... what can I say about the final. I think we all were like "????????????". It made no fucking sense. At the end, this could´ve been a good anime with an interesting plot but it was nothing like that

This review does not contain spoilers and will try to help or hinder your interest. I think Platinum End is an attempt at something different. It doesn't do anything groundbreaking, its animation won't lure you in, nor will the story, but maybe your interest in how Platinum End *ends* will keep you going like it did for me. If you read/watch this for the author's previous work (Death Note), do not expect the same passion put into the drama and slyness. It does not do that, nor does it promise to. There are hints at brilliance though. This series has heavy suicidal discussion, as the entire plot is built around characters who almost ended their lives. I actually think it captures that dark and depressive mood very well, and all of the characters react properly to it, probably being the best thing alone. If you like phycological theory crafting, you may enjoy this purely for that aspect, in which case a 4/10 may not apply. I think it just does too many things at once, whereas it should've stuck to one theme. That's where I stand, and I think that's generous. NOTE: The opening & outros are both bangers, and you should check them out even if you don't plan to watch.

An absolute disaster. Platinum End begins with an interesting story about chosen people that need to choose a god. Until the Metropolitan Arc (first 14 episodes), the author seems to know how to handle the story, but after it.... IT BECOMES A DISASTER.A COMPLETE DISASTER. The ending of the anime doesn´t make sense and the enthusiasts who likes this anime (if they do exist) try to explain but fail because even the author can´t seem to follow a straight line. The same happenned with his other ´´work´´,if we can call that work...(Yes I am talking about Death Note, and yes it is trash too) Don´t be like me and watch the anime because of the good trailers and the beautiful poster, just skip this, please, you´re doing a favor for yourself and your time! This anime brings nothing but a dissapointing ending and a disastrous romance with a little bit of nonsense and worst protagonism.

Hello, we are the authors of Death Note. We are going to be making a thriller death game type manga, anyone hyped? Oh and it has a thick chick as angel too! Me! Me! Me! Me! Me!!!!!! My initial reaction: Well, maybe the author could fix the issues with Death Note and possibly for once just make an actually well written death game manga. After reading: Yeah..this is definitely not them...not buying that..this high-key makes me feel like an idiot for thinking that there could be a decent death game story.. Anime starts airing: Yooooo guys this shit is a masterpiece, it's going so good. And trust me, this initial rating was like a 7.8+ but yeah you saw the rating now.. Me when anime starts: Guys, I read the manga and tbh, it's not good, just a really poorly written death game piece of shit.. Those same people at episode 24: Worst anime ever. The story is a quite a unique one, never to be seen in an another anime that was named Mirai Nikki and the characters designs are hundred percent not copied from Inuyashiki or Gantz. This is a story about a depressed edgy ass kid who wants to die but gets op powers and now is gonna be god if he wins the game. Yay Ok. The art is some of the worst to be ever seen in recent anime years. It's so generic and you could clearly see them lazing off at many scenes. The manga art was great but this is worse and so much worse. You will notice too. The character designs are copy pasted too of many others chads haha but at least the manga art was good which covered up for that. Sound is fitting for a death game and the voice acting isn't half that bad, the opening rocks and is really similar to the feeling the show really gives off with its premise and the ending theme tries to be deep with its visuals but I don't think any of Platinum End is deep, the music was low-key fire though. Characters are some of the worst ever, edgy, cliché, retarded and mentally in need of help. These guys are so poorly constructed and written so badly. The author made copy pasted in terms of personalities too, you can clearly see these type of characters in every other shiity death game anime but the problem is that they are worse. I sound like a total hater when I say that and that's true because this show was just that bad of an experience, couldn't even turn off my brain here to watch it. I don't enjoy this anime because it's very poorly written, loose ended, edgefest with no likable characters and garbage art with an even more garbage story. I stil can't seem to believe the authors of Death Note made it, at least Mirai Nikki was enjoyable unlike this shit. This show fails the basics and can't find a place for itself, high-key one of the worst anime of last year and quite possibly one of the worst from this year too. I don't recommend this to you in any case, even if you liked shows such as Mirai Nikki, this just isn't it.

Like many others, once i saw that Platinum End was created by the same person who created Death Note, i had to check it out. And even though it is definitely not nearly as good as Death Note, i don't think its that bad either. ART - 7 I am no expert when it comes to animation, but I liked the art. The outfits looked cool and the battle scenes were decent in my opinion. I liked the design of the angels. CGI was also present but I think it was tolerable. CHARACTERS - 3 Definitely the weakest point of this anime. The MC is very naive and annoying, he is the "i won't kill you, evil person who killed thousands of people and will continue to do so because killing is bad" type of person. He pretty much stays the same until the end when he finally changes a bit and has the resolve to kill Yoneda, but this was too little character development and came too late. One admirable thing about him is that he stays loyal to this ideals to the very end, showing that he at least has a strong will. Saki is pretty much useless all the time besides being the cute girl and Mirai's love interest. She contributes very little to the plot (only being somewhat useful in the end) and one would wonder if her removal from the story would make any difference. Kanade, the first antagonist (who looked like Near's cousin) was an arrogant and sadistic person who looks down on others He was a very cliche villain made to be despicable with no redeeming qualities But at least he was the one who made the plot progress during the entire first half. The second antagonist is Yoneda, an associal atheist scientist willing to do whatever it takes to prove his theories right. He started out as an interesting Character (leastwise better than Kanade) but later became a bit tedious. Most of the side characters were uninteresting and forgettable. Still, 2 characters managed to stood out in my opinion. The first one is Mukaido, a devoted husband a and a caring father who didn't hesitate to get his hands dirty in order to protect his family. The other one is Nakauji, who i thought was a pretty credible portrayal of a suicidal person. SOUND - 7 Pretty solid. The opening was great and I am glad they kept it (with some small changes in the second half) throughout the entire anime. I especially liked the first ending, I believe it fit the atmosphere of this anime really well. Voice acting was also satisfying. STORY - 5 The premise is simple. Thirteen people on the verge of suicide are chosen by angels to be the next god candidates. Similar to Death note the story here can also be divided into 2 parts. In the first half of the show, the main enemy is Metropoliman/Kanade and our heroes have to find and deal with him before he kills every other God candidate. Unlike the action packed first half, there is little to no action in the second one. This half can be described as "The next God election" where the remaining candidates have a debate with each one of them showing their way of thinking and then they discuss who should be the next God. This time, the antagonist turns out to be (as expected) Yoneda whose goal differentiates from the goals of other candidates ENJOYMENT - 6 I like battle royale anime . I guess you can say there are my weak spot. The main problem with this anime is its weak main cast. The first part has action while the second part tends to be a lot more philosophical and is mainly dialogue which can get dull sometimes. The ending was anticlimactic and it surprised me a bit honestly though i neither liked it nor disliked really. CONCLUSION Platinum end can be enjoyable to an extent if you don't expect too much when you start watching it and you are willing to forgive some of its shortcomings

It starts off well. It gets even better. Then you realize the MC is just a crybaby obsessed with the most detestable thing to ever happen to anime: the 'no-killing' trope. Everyone is dying, he is crying; everyone is in danger, yet he is still wallowing in his emotional breakdowns. Even watching his patheticness is infuriating. The writers went way too far trying to make it feel heavy and reflect 'real human psychology.' It's beyond terrible. Neither the MC nor the side characters hold the slightest bit of interest. Their stories wouldn't win the best backstory award in a regular kindergarten. Character development is nonexistent, absolute zero. Not a single trace of progress or change. The cliché of tying the plot to a live TV broadcast in every episode is the cherry on top. 1/10

I want to preface this by saying I have not read the manga but as is clear from this review have seen the anime. I cannot state whether or not it's a faithful adaptation. It's a fairly well made story and it has a lot of incredibly interesting and dynamic characters. I absolutely loved Nanato Mukaidou as a character. He was the epitome of a father doing everything for his family and honestly reminded me of all the good parts of my own dad. It was incredibly cathartic and his arc is truly beautiful. There's definitely some issues when it comes to the main character however- at least in my own tastes. He's a pacifist to an extreme degree. One that is incredibly irritating as somebody who is very much different to that mentality when it comes to my taste in media. However- I do think the way the show demonstrates others reactions to him and the general story tends to make up for that fact and actually make it far more entertaining than this would be for me in practically any other setting. The ending was in my own opinion a massive let down. But I can say with quite a good amount of certainty that it does make a lot of sense and fits very well thematically. it does flow incredibly well with the themes and the lead up to it does lead for a very good set up and payoff of the ideas expressed. Overall I would say it's a good story- I wouldn't per se recommend this to somebody who wants there to be something like a full on battle royale, or a story that is meant to leave you feeling triumphant. It does have aspects of power fantasy but ultimately it's message and impact is much more somber. This is true throughout the show. It is definitely worth checking out but it probably won't be something that everyone likes equally by any means.

One of the few real-world issues I will lament in this forum is the unhappy love of death that occasionally finds its way into Japanese anime. This show, Platinum End, is another iteration of the kind of show that’s obsessed with death and dying. While this anime is intriguing at times, ultimately it is completely overshadowed by that darkness which no one should have to live under, making the show far less interesting in the end. There are some really good things about this show. The artwork is exquisite. The story has some strong points, excluding the ugliness aforementioned. A few of the characters are really interesting, at least at some point during the show. The dialogue is good at some points. There’s a lot to like here. But then there are some really big negatives as well. The love of death aspect is the biggest, but you have some poor character development and handling of the story as well. And as nice as the artwork is, it’s not effective for this show somehow. Just based on those things, this show is around average. But the ugliness, the darkness without justification, makes this show a big flop in my mind. I won’t automatically give a negative review to a show just because it’s full of outright evil (see Black Lagoon), but if there’s not a good reason for those kinds of displays then I will very much hold those aspects against it. Such is the case with Platinum End. See the rest of the review at https://anteikuanimereviews.com/2022/06/02/platinum-end/

Platinum End…..oh Platinum End…..reviewing this show was such a pain because there are a lot of high concept things in this show to critique, and as the show goes on,instead of falling apart,it adds more things just to collapse in on itself and make a giant Black Hole of things. And it's honestly exhausting to make a lengthy review after such a frustrating watch but there is just too much to talk about, Yes, it's one of "thoose" reviews.Trigger warning for suicide, religious topics, and long ass reviews. STORY First of all, I'm not gonna beat around the bush, I have a chicken pot pie in the oven, the story is dogshit. It's really messy while at the same time being really uninteresting despite its high concept. The most action packed moments happened to be really stupid. I know the person who made this also made Death Note, I feel like the writer was trying to capture lighting in a bottle twice with having a very similar concept with added death battle elements from anime like Mirai Nikki to spice things up, but the writer does such a poor job of utilizing what makes both of these shows work. There seems to be a very very very desperate ass agenda to make everything poignant that overpowers everything else, and it turns the anime into such a slog, dude. Lotta flashbacks, lotta ppl talking about happiness, weak ass characters, and an absolutely whack ass second half. And then the ending of the show. I will give props to an anime actually having an ending. But the ending is so fucking lazy, it feels like the writer knew he wrote himself into an absolute mess so he just decided to Thanos snap everything he wrote outta existence, character arcs and explored themes be damned..It tries to be profound but it's too dumb to do that, it tries to have a twist but it doesn't even commit to it,so what is it? It's a cop out of an ending that tries to have some implied commentary on death that the show literally contradicted beforehand in the previ- its a mess and that mess is dumped in the trash where it belonged. ART/ANIMATION/AND SOUND The animation and art is…well, not great. I get it, the animators tried their damndest to make the art look very clean and beautiful, because the manga for this was illustrated by an absolute legend Takeshi Obata. But they trip over themselves a lot. It’s a very inconsistent show, with really derpy moments, lifeless style, and horrendously ugly 3D that is relied on so much, since most of the battles in the show are done by people in mecha outfits.Mirai Nikki can eat its heart out with their CGI cars.not to mention the sound is really freaking obnoxious, it's one of those new anime with the foley that is ridiculously loud and clunky, and its soundtrack is kinda overkill with the electronic music. And it pains me just how good the OP and ED’s are because they get put in shows like this. CHARACTERS Alright, are you ready for some profound characters? Fuck it,I might as well go over all of them. Tonma sucks, he’s a tool,Shogo and Saburo were literally tools to be used by Maximan AKA Kanade who is a main antagonist but he is waaay too cartoonish to take seriously,His entire character is basically that image of Paris Hilton wearing that “STOP BEING POOR” shirt. And then mix it with Sentai for extra cringe..Hajime is a reason why I think the mechanic of the red arrow is stupid .If you don't know, each contestants gets two arrows, a white one that kills, and a red one that causes the person to fall madly in love. But, the problem is the red arrow being used on a character ruins his arc.His story while not the greatest was alright but then the rest of his character is just being a servant and he makes pea-brained decisions because of the arrows.Susumu is a dumbass, its baffling how a writer who made characters like L came up with a kid so stupid that he almost overdosed on sleeping pills just because he was bored. For your main characters you have *pulls up wiki because i don't remember anyone’s names* Saki Hanakago, for about half the show, she does nothing. She is just there to be the main character’s girl. Her personality is very bare bones and really shallow compared to even the supporting characters, I wanna say her suicide attempt added more depth but literally every character in the show attempted suicide became a god candidate. Next is Nanato whose entire character is literally just one big death flag, almost every scene that isn't plot related is just there to say “HEY HE’S GONNA DIE SOON AND IT'S GONNA BE SUPER SAAAAD'' but it doesn't really leave an impact because having a loving family and cancer is just not enough for me to care. I need a character with a personality or at least one that I can fully relate to as a human, but the problem with Platinum End is the super serious tone making scenes more melodramatic or overkill. The angels themselves are okay,I kinda liked how they are spectators of the actual game, but the flawed rule system was so shit that the entire show completely turned me off by the end.So i didn't care about them. There are others too and some of the charactersare so outlandish, but they are either expendable helpers or people getting killed off because the show is “edgy" The ones that stick out are the “antagonists”.Gaku and Shuji are so annoying I have to dedicate a whole paragraph to them, which is a bad sign. The one character I did relate to is probably Yuri Temari because she’s just using her powers to get a bunch of material desires and I relate to that since honestly why would anyone wanna be God if they can just use a red arrow and shoot the manager of Disneyworld and ride the Rockin Roller Coaster forever. I know materialism is bad but who cares. She gave off that vibe, and I liked it. Her character isn’t well written though.Even in the wiki, half of her character section is just blank. And finally, the main character Mirai Nikki, oops I mean Mirai Kakehashi. He is basically a walking trope, and that trope happens to one of my least favorite tropes. The Delusional Pacifist. Despite the fact that he is dealing with literal murderers and people actively trying to kill him, he doesn’t want to kill ,because that is a no no. Give me a break,if anything he should’ve been desensitized to death since his parents literally blew up and he saw his step parents die in front of him( this happens in the first couple of episodes btw).I don’t get it. I understand not wanting to kill, but he is actively in dangerous situations;he never sticks up for himself because he doesn’t want to kill. UGH i really fuking hate this trope, this isn’t Care Bears, you do realize humans will do anything for survival, they don't all turn into killing machines because they kill one person out of fear. A Better way of handling this trope is to have him actually kill someone but make the kill really traumatic ,that way later on, he doesn’t want to kill. Not because its the wrong thing to so, but because he doesn't want to go through that trauma again, but no. They don't do that. Getting back to the antags because I have some beef with them. LONG ASS RANT PART ‘My biggest problem with this show especially at the end is that it is way to smart for its own good. The show really loves to rely on logic and philosophy to impress its audience and at the same time it makes leaps and bounds to keep its plot going like a stone skipping across a pond. Some of its biggest logic jumps being having the power to fly without the population seeing you, having the military turn you into a biological weapon when they dont even know your powers, and probably the biggest logic leap is assuming a huge population of people across the world would end their lives out of depression just because one individual from Japan says that God isn’t real.It gets so convoluted, it contradicts its own worldbuilding to get across its crusty ass talking points. Ironic enough, Despite the fact that these talking points deal a lot with an atheistic viewpoint, they come across in …

Incidentally I've noticed a trend in the reviews of this trashheap. The people who score it fairly complain about the anime. The people who rate it highly complain about the other reviews. The moral of this series is : Ohba is an atheist and reeaallly wants you to be too.... This isn't a story, it's oneway propaganda. It's preachy condescending masochistic simple garbage without the slightest regard for continuity that expects you to sit eyes glazed for the sermon that has all the depth of a thin sheet of ice. Without getting into spoilers the early premise of this series is basically "what if Mashiro and Miho from bakuman were were transplanted into Mirai nikki and had to prevent Yagami Light from becoming God for "their happiness" which sounds alot cooler than it plays out, and quickly becomes a lengthy and frustrating mission to select a human sacrifice to carry the fate of humanity but instead usurping and forgoing the responsibility in effort to espouse the eccentric proclivities of the authors unbeknownst to himself ironically deeply held religious convictions before descending to a tirade about "entropy" glorifying death as the extrinsic motivator of life. Give me back my 8 hours spent watching this...

I mean... its basically r/im14andthisisdeep the anime. The plot is predictable, and the writing is so dry that I skimmed through the last 4 episodes and felt like I missed nothing. Its like if I watched paint dry, but once the paint was dry everyone died and the world was over. Couple that with some pretentious, edgy text at the end as it pans out from the ended world about how "life is meaningless without death." and you've basically got a depressed teenager who takes philosophy in school's shower thoughts adapted into an anime. Also, they chose a bunch of suicidal people as god candidates and didn't expect the winner of the god selection to just immediately end it all? Pretty much nothing was explained either, it pulled a whole bunch of stuff out of its butt that made no sense and was poorly explained only to throw it all away at the end.

I have never written a review before. That is how bad this show is. It had a relatively intriguing concept, enough so for me to even finish the series. That is what makes it so bad. Its entertaining enough to waste your time with anticipation for an interesting conclusion and yet the whole story just implodes into a miasma of superficial philosophy and character writing so poorly implemented that it almost convinces you that you missed the overarching concepts. But you didn't. The ideas the story attempt to convey are so simplistic and irrelevant its unnerving that this mf wrote death note. I have never seen a story so pretentiously retarded that the comment section virtually acts as a dunning Krueger curve. With people either saying it was terrible or stating that it can only be enjoyed if you are some transfigured artistical elite. Lol. Most definitely the worst anime I have ever seen. At least most bad anime are so blatantly shit you can drop them. I feel like I was just cat fished and drugged, waking up to see my kidney has been stolen. Id only recommend this show to edgy teenagers who crave anything that can be mistaken as philosophically deep to validate their deep seated inferiority complexes and convince themselves to be part of an arcane minority of superior intellect.

One of the most abysmal things I have ever had the displeasure of consuming. I read through the entire manga hoping there would be something, anything, that would make this shit storm redeemable to no avail. The characters have no depth, you spend so much time listening to them rattle on for chapter after chapter after chapter about their self riotous none sense and still learn nothing about them. I couldn't even be bothered to care about anyone who was killed off because were never given any reason to. Contrary to popular belief, an edgy backstory alone will not formulate an interesting character. And brutalizing every woman in graphic detail that dare breathes in your story will not evoke emotion or make us hate your antagonist, it makes me question your motivations for drawing out near nude underage girls with their organs strung about in FAR more detail than any other art in the entire piece. This was an edge lord's paradise, between pseudo-woke, 4channer "im just like the joker!!" level takes on society, and savior complex men with no depth beyond moral wank off contests. Don't waste your time. The takes about the world provided in the story are about as deep as a leaky kitty pool, and anyone with elementary level critical thinking skilsl will walk away wishing they had their time back.

The reason I started to watch this series is because it is the work of Ohba Tsugumi. The author of one my favorite psychological show and my earliest anime show, Death Note. After going through the outline of the story, I thought this show had a vibe of Mirrai Nikki over Death Note, and of course Mirrai Nikki is one of my favorite shows as well. At the beginning this show had a quality animation and cool sound effects and a rather thrilling set-up but as the show went on I started to detest the MC as he goes on talking about how he and every one wants happiness in their lives and so he will not kill anyone because of these actions, there were more lives lost than saved, and to be honest he was annoying for me until the end. He did have a so-called 'character development' where he chose to kill a single person for the greater good, and practically it was out of nowhere. And the ending of the show was put up in a form that it goes on without a contradiction with the belief of the masses, and that was a huge disappointment for me. Not to mention the quality of the animation went downhill towards the end because of the drop in rating.
