I can't believe I'm actually writing a review for this anime but it was That good! I thought about it for a while and I cannot really find a flaw at all. maybe some nitpicks here and there, but not enough to drop it down to a 9. I absolutely loved how everything tied together and fit like a glove. All the pieces of the puzzle falling together in the end was super satisfying! I had no idea how they would end it but I could not have asked for a better ending. That's why, in my eyes it deserves a 10.

I have to admit it, this anime was EXCELLENT. At first I had reservations about whether it was made for children. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the depth and complexity of the plot, the compelling characters and the overall quality of the storytelling. The anime's narrative is well written and the characters are well developed, embodying the essence of a well-rounded and engaging cast. Each element of this anime has been carefully introduced, with a clear connection to the central narrative. The viewer is able to understand and follow the intricate story of this magnificent anime. Personally, highly recommended :)

Without a doubt, this anime is a gem, and you will certainly have an amazing time watching it if you don't judge it based on it cartoonish character appearance. Odd Taxi combines between drama, mystery, and humor. I can say it has a pretty unique story with some incredible hints, also features really well-written dialogues, and the connections between the characters seem realistic. The cast of characters is very diverse. Aside from the grumpy taxi driver, you have two failing comedians, a validation seeking college student, a coldhearted idol, a foolish criminal, a nice guy doctor, a corrupt cop, and many other interesting characters who all have a specific role in the story. And what an ending, definitely one of my favorites.

Odd Taxi is actually GOOD The japanese comedy scenes and soundtrack were the downside, and the slow pace storyline often annoyed me and give me thoughts about dropping the anime. In counterpart, characters and some pretty decent plot twists made a nice experience You are probably going to think about stop watching many times along the show, but the final episode will make it all worth it Odd Taxi isnt amazing but is not bad either, in my opinion the myanimelist score is a little bit overrated, i would give it a solid 8 If you like Mistery with drama and comedy, i would definitely recommend this And remember, watch it until the end, is gonna make sense and the pieces will finally connect, belive me Have fun

Highly overrated and below average. Fans have lowered their standards it seems. The story is somewhat slice of life but takes you out of the sense of immersion in the end. The art style is enjoyable and the 3D rending parts are not an issue. The characters are quite bland and mostly forgettable. The highlight is the main character although even he doesn't leave much of an impression other than being a walrus? The extreme lowlight is one character who talks in rap and its those parts that are unwatchable. Without spoiling the ending, the twist everyone is talking about is quite gimmicky and as a whole the series hits as much as it misses. In the end does not live up to the hype and certainly no masterpiece, albeit a passable slightly below average anime.

Odd Taxi is well to put it simply, odd. You have a wide arrange of characters, with some very annoying characteristics. I keep getting the world realism being thrown around for the character's personalities but personally I find them anything but realistic and just an exaggeration of personalities, I am sure people like them exist in the real world but it's a very small minority and the level of frustration of certain character actions and behavior is beyond comprehension. So you have an okay plotline filled with some interesting elements, filled with decent characters (some extremely annoying) characters in my personal opinion. I do like the MC, but his persona and voice drains the life out of me so I am conflicted on how to feel about him. I do feel like there was a level of planning and care put in place with the pacing and direction of the story so I had to score it a minimum of 7 just for that. The reveal at the end was a little eerie but felt like a shock factor just for the sake of shock, which is down played with the amount of plot holes in the story. It had moments of enjoyment with an abundance of annoyance, but you can't deny a level of quality Odd Taxi brings to the table considering it's genre.

Expectations are a fickle thing. Sometimes, you set your expectations high for something, and it largely delivers. Sometimes you're not expecting much, and it really surprises you. Sometimes, however, you go into something with expectations set high, but ultimately find it never managing to reach those heights. "ODDTAXI" was hyped up for much of this past anime season as one of the best shows of the season, if not the year, so I had admittedly fairly inflated expectations when I started watching it, after the show had finished airing. Unfortunately, it largely failed to meet those expectations. That's not to say I thought it was terrible; I was largely entertained more often than not, there were a couple of interesting concepts in there, and the OP is pretty amazing. The characters we were supposed to like were likeable, and even the more villainous characters had a lot of charm to them. The art style was unique and mostly well-executed, although I'll get back to that. But something just never quite clicked. Part of it was the little details; while I like the art style on paper, the animation is fairly lacklustre; not terrible by any stretch, but, especially coming off the back of the same season's "Super Cub", where I was pleasantly surprised by the animation, I really expected more. The pacing is a little odd, slow at the beginning, and feeling a little rushed towards the end, only for the final episode to have fairly little substance at all; I was particularly surprised that the end of the penultimate episode clearly made such little impact that I was genuinely confused, or had genuinely forgotten, how it led into the start of the finale... On a larger scale, however, I just never found that the story, however interesting the set up and mysteries it posits were, ever really did anything. The way I describe works like this is that there's an awful lot of plot, but not much story. On a technical level, there is a lot going on in this show; so many different subplots and tangents and connecting threads, most of which end up weaving together in some way or another. I heard someone compare it to "Knives Out", and I can kind of see where they're coming from. But where the film uses that complex, weaving plot to put forward a powerful, interesting set of themes, this show doesn't feel like it has any interest in them. It's a lot of plot, leading to a lot of plot twists, but basically none of it ever feels like it means anything. Most of the plot twists (most of which were obvious long before they're revealed) don't change all that much, other than maybe recontextualising some details that weren't that important in the first place. Most of the answers to the interesting mysteries have fairly little effect on anything; from the animal appearance of the characters to the early suspicions of protagonist Odokawa's involvement in the case of a missing teenager, we get answers, but they never seem to have any great effect on the plot. The majority of them elicited nothing more than a 'huh, okay' from me, and for a show that seems to want to be a thriller, that's something of a major screw-up. Like I said, ultimately, it just doesn't feel like anything mattered, that the story had any idea what it was trying to do or be. I think it thinks there's a character arc for Odokawa, but I honestly can't work out what it is; not much of any real thematic substance changes for him through the whole show. I could make lots of comparisons for what I think this story wants to be; maybe "Durarara!!" without the supernatural aspects, maybe the game "Cloudpunk" with the slow-paced vibe of the early episodes, maybe a Scorcese-esque crime thriller (that last one actually feels apt given the late-game reveals about the protagonist's backstory did remind me a little of the trainwreck of "Joker", although this is nowhere near as bad). But ultimately, it never really succeeds at being any of it. I don't know if I was setting my expectations too high with this show, if, had I watched the show weekly as it was airing, I might have had a different experience without the context of the praise it's gathered. But the reality is that we can't control how we perceive something so publicly talked about going into a story. The sad truth is, no matter how much I want to see the masterpiece everyone's hyped this show up as, all I can really see is a reasonably entertaining, but muddled and somewhat flat, story, that spent so much time crafting a complex plot, that it forgot to tell a compelling story.

Coming into the Spring 2021 anime season, Odd Taxi wasn't even on my radar. The only way I found out about this show was by finding a Spotify playlist including the OP, ED, and OST songs. Listening to the playlist, I was immediately hooked to the vibes of the music, and just had to watch the anime. Watching the series from start to finish, I can definitively say Odd Taxi was the best anime of the season, while unfortunately being one of the most slept-on anime of Spring. A hidden diamond in the rough. It can be obviously said that the reason why this show isn't as high as it should be is because it stars anthropomorphic animals, or as some people would say, "it's a furry anime." That overgeneralization is disappointing to say the least, but to those who are still skeptical that this is a "furry" anime, I assure you the plot, music, characters, animation, and the satisfaction at the end will be entirely worth it. I must say that, for Baku Kinoshita's anime directorial debut, he did an amazing job making this story come to life. I sincerely can't wait to see where he takes this story or future stories in the future. As I also mentioned before, the music for this show was the aspect that reeled me in in the first place, so it must be said that the songs provided by Skirt and PUNPEE, the amazingly talented Suzuko Mimori, and many other talented artists made this show worth it from start to finish. Overall, this was a very special anime to me, and I implore anyone who's interested in good story telling, art direction, or music to give this anime a watch, because it is definitely worth the time. 10/10.

Winner of the New Face Award at the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival, Odd Taxi follows the daily life of Odokawa, a blunt and eccentric taxi driver. His routine gets turned upside down when the police start investigating the disappearance of a high school girl, and the evidence starts pointing toward him. I did not have particularly high expectations for this anime, but I have to admit it did not really win me over, and overall it left me feeling pretty lukewarm. The story itself is not bad. It starts with the girl's disappearance before shifting to the daily routine of a taxi driver dropping off his customers. We quickly learn that our driver might be connected to her disappearance. It is a fairly compelling setup, but a first problem becomes clear right away: the pacing is incredibly slow. It feels more like watching a slice-of-life anime than a thriller. And that is not the only issue. Another problem is that the different storylines have no direct connection to the main plot. That is already a lot to juggle in just thirteen episodes, and on top of that, we are thrown a whole cast of characters who each have their own issues, with no clear sense of how they relate to the missing girl. Sometimes they simply do not relate at all and exist purely as background noise, like the comedy duo Homo Sapiens, whose purpose is never really clear. The only thing connecting all these threads is Odokawa. Which brings us to the show's biggest flaw: its overreliance on coincidences. In a city as massive as Tokyo, it is hard to believe that all these characters would indirectly know each other, cross paths, and end up in the same taxi. It clearly feels like everyone is being forced to connect to Odokawa just to push the plot forward. The cases of Tanaka and the Mystery Kiss fan are the most obvious examples of this. Everything is eventually explained by the end, but that explanation does not make the ending any better. The twist is interesting, but it is not enough to save things, since attentive viewers will have already picked up on the clues from the earlier episodes. The disappearance of the high school girl gets resolved, but nobody actually tries to figure out who is responsible, or even raises any suspicion before the reveal. And once we finally learn the truth, the show ends on a cliffhanger. A pretty underwhelming ending. Since this is a plot-driven story in its overall structure, that kind of narrative tends to rely on fairly static characters. We mostly watch them react to events as they happen, with the focus placed on what they are trying to achieve within the story. Certain themes could obviously be explored through them, but as a whole, they are just not very interesting, and the execution does not help either: Kabasawa and his lack of attention, compensated by a need for validation on social media, Tanaka and his obsession with mobile games, or Kakihana, searching for love by weaving a web of lies to improve his chances. With sharper writing, following their arcs could have been enjoyable, but as it stands, they are just losers. Odokawa, the main character, gets surprisingly little screen time, and it is only near the end that we really learn anything about him, through his doctor, Gouriki. But once again, everything feels far too neatly arranged. The character designs are average but work fine for the story. It is just that other anime and manga offer far more appealing furry designs. The soundtrack is practically nonexistent. That works fine for the taxi scenes between Odokawa and his passengers, given his personality, but even when music does show up, it is not memorable. The animation is average at best: it is static, with very little movement. The backgrounds support the scenes without adding much else. Honestly, since I did not really know what I was getting into, I decided to keep my expectations low. When I found out it was one of the most acclaimed anime of 2021, and that it had won an award, I was genuinely surprised. With a slow story, multiple storylines with no real connection to the main plot, an overreliance on coincidences to move things along, a lukewarm ending, uninteresting characters, an almost nonexistent soundtrack, and average animation, the fact that this anime won an award is, frankly, baffling. In short: Odd Taxi takes plenty of detours, but the destination was not really worth the ride.

As a taxi driver watching Odd taxi, I was astonished and moved by the concept of this show. At first glance, this show appears silly, animals driving taxi's? I wish it was as simple as that! This show majestically balances comedy, drama and suspense. The fact that a taxi driving animal can have such a dull face but yet expel such emotion is miraculous. The art style was enjoyable to watch, with such a unique story. This show made me realize you can never know what will happen during a taxi ride, I will never drive my taxi the same!

Odd Taxi is a 13 episode masterpiece. This show makes all the little things matter so pay attention because you will be surprised from the plot twists and character development. At first i thought it would be some weird furry anime but i was wrong. Really wrong. This show just sums up what anime is supposed to be. How can you dislike odd taxi to me i think it's got great art amazing characters and a good sound track. Guys don't sleep on this anime this truly is a hidden gem (for now at least) They have the perfect characters and they all have there unique personality and backstory which is a nice touch to detail. Such as Yano he's really different he can't stop rhyming when he talks which is pretty good and the ending is just something else. The Soundtrack is absolutely beautiful and you can really can tell that the entire studio has payed attention to every little thing. Overall you should definitely should check this anime out and it would go down in the history books.

Odd Taxi is an incredible one of a kind slice of life. "bUt THiS aNiMe HAs nOtHinG tO Do wITh SoMe WhOLeSomE 100 ScHoOlbOy aNd sCHooLgIrlS HaRem. Yeah, that's 100% true because this show actually depicts "slice of life" in its true nature. Or at least what you would expect judging by the name of the genre. It's the most real and based show I've seen so far. Odd Taxi puts real people with understandable issues and struggles and comprehensible backstories on the screen and engulfs them with a perfect setting and thrilling story. The show starts innocent and chilled until the main character Odokawa is dragged into a missing person case. As soon as local gangsters get involved the story becomes a modern mob scenario. Little by little the whole extent of things behind the missing girl becomes evident. As Odokawa is faced with a plethora of people and changing problems and struggles the viewer can slowly grasp the complex structure of the plot. The different story parts all have a great tension curve and are exciting to follow. Odd Taxi features an absolutely glorious character design. It didn't reinvent the wheel here by depicting humans and meta-human aspects through animal characters and characteristics. However, Odd Taxi is on another level when it comes to presenting human behavior, thoughts, feelings, habits and traits. The delivery of the aforementioned is more understandable and respectively more tangible with the use of Odd Taxis animal characters than any actual human character could achieve. Every character feels so relatable. They face reproducible problems, have to deal with traceable struggles and eventually overcome those obstacles or go into ruin because of them. The situations presented are generally ones everyone understands and many could imagine themselves in. Some may have been in the exact same situation before. Every character and their story is a fixed point in the plot. Everything that happens or what a character does is meaningful and essential in progressing the story and garnishing the narrative. Nothing happens without a reason. Nothing is the way it is just for the sake of it. Odd Taxi is exceptional in building up different story elements and characters while these little elements form bigger plot points which eventually create the bigger picture. Everything is intertwined with each other. Every character is in some way connected with one another and every story element affects most characters even if they weren't a direct part of it. The outstanding style of animation benefits the narrative and atmosphere the show delivers. Its oil-paint-like background style truly defines the world and how it is supposed to look in the viewer's eyes. The rich in contrast, cell shady designed characters stand out dragging the focus onto them. The use of lighting and shadows in combination with a harmonious direction makes it appealing to follow what's happening. Albeit, the level of execution is somewhat inconsistent and overall it's no visual blow away either. In conclusion, the show features an incredible set of characters that take part in a well told and exciting story all embedded in a mysterious setting. I can not stress enough how binge worthy this anime is.

After the roller coaster of blockbuster sequels and promising premieres of Winter 2021, one could be led to assume Spring 2021 couldn't possibly be surpassed by its predecessor. How wrong we were! Vivy. To Your Eternity. Fruit Basket. Megalobox: Nomad. Spring 2021 had some exemplary titles, but none have captivated me quite as much as this gem of a crime drama, criminally overlooked for more popular series this season. Odd Taxi's premise revolves around a (anthromorphic walrus) taxi driver's encounters with various clients, as well as his burgeoning role amid the mysterious disappearance of a girl in downtown Tokyo. What sets OT's narrative apart is how it plays out more like a film noir than an episodic series with its tightly-wound script. The explosion of anime popularity and its subsequent marketability has subjected us to so many tired adaptations, tropes - even tired parodies of tropes - that it has been an eternity since we have seen something wholly different from the rest of the medium. Popular AniTuber Gigguk compares Odd Taxi to a Tarantino film, but I would rather liken it to Nolan's "The Prestige". As with The Prestige, you are given partial answers to some of the major questions of the film with its opening scene - in Odd Taxi's case, in its sleek yet unassuming OP. One of the biggest issues I have with many other series is how they violate the "show, not tell" principle. Even the most notable names in the industry are sometimes guilty for a lack of respect for viewer intelligence. A case in point: for all of Ufotable's superb animation and direction in the "Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works" remake relative to DEEN's 2010 adaptation, it errs by spending the better part of 2 episodes explaining a Servant's true identity (something any discerning viewer would have picked up on several episodes prior) while we groan in exposition diarrhea. In contrast, Odd Taxi unveils its developments with a subtlety that belies its simple appearance. An example is this confrontation between
: Tanaka, Dobu and Odokawa in EP12. You can count each bullet that Tanaka fires over the course of the series: 1 through Odokawa's window, 2 at the cabaret, and 2 during the chase, leaving him one final bullet in his revolver. Dobu mentions as much in the penultimate episode, calling Tanaka's bluff by saying he has no bullets left after the last one used against him by the docks. But a discerning viewer would notice that Tanaka was not responsible for the latter: a scene just prior has a couple police officers gossiping about Little Daimon losing his gun in passing. With this understanding, we are left watching with bated breath as Tanaka gets closer to snapping with each passing minute.
Moments like these are littered throughout every episode in the show. You feel rewarded for your perceptiveness with each prediction that is realized, and wowed by each reveal that slipped through the radar that made sense on retrospect. Every discovery, every development feels earned. In a medium populated by stories with cheap revelations and heavy-handed exposition, Odd Taxi is a breath of fresh air. This is a rare show that has something to be gleaned with every rewatch. "Attack on Titan", "Higurashi: When They Cry", and, to a different degree, "Perfect Blue", are some notable examples of anime that are also able to acheive this to fantastic effect. But unlike the aforementioned titles, Odd Taxi never takes itself too seriously. This is perhaps best encapsulated by the dry, sarcastic wit of Odokawa, its titular character. Murder, kidnap, suicide, and deception are the names of the game in this anime noir, yet it retains its levity even during its tensest moments (a certain dancing alpaca, for instance). Complementing the light-hearted nature of this series is a simple but charming score and aesthetic. The music in Odd Taxi is solid if unspectacular. There are no bombastic Sawano drops, booming Kenji Kawai drums, nor otherworldly Yuki Kajiura strings here; just understated, thematically-fitting tunes that do not detract from important conversations between characters. While the artstyle may seem basic at first glance, cuts and framing between each moment are masterfully directed. And here’s the answer to the elephant in the room: No, this is NOT a “furry” anime; at least not along the lines of "Zootopia", "Beastars", and "Brand New Animal". That every character is an animal takes a backseat to the story because nobody in the series talks about or behaves like one, barring fulfilling a certain narrative aspect that should best be left unsaid and appreciated by a first time viewer. I suspect the decision on the show’s aesthetic was also conceived for the secondary purpose of making each character immediately identifiable to the audience, to keep us on our toes for its central mystery. And identifiable they have been! Perhaps the greatest foil to Odd Taxi's core narrative is its excellent cast that, together, makes it more than a sum of its parts. Seemingly unrelated characters come together in fortuitous, yet organic circumstances. Despite their flaws, nearly every character in the story is endearing because they remind us so much about our own world - our goodness, our failings, and our naïveté. The series is festooned with meta-commentary about modern society - none more so prominent than our constant, unrelenting obsession with recognition. Almost every character in the show is drawn toward this to varying degrees. The obsession for acceptance. The obsession for adoration. The obsession for stardom. The obsession for social media prominence. The obsession for the heights of a hierarchy. Ironically, it is the show's most unassuming character that wants nothing to do with recognition, yet is the only one who is able to recognize everyone it meets. Perhaps there have been more exhilarating, emotional, and inspiring moments in other shows this Spring. Yet even the strongest titles this season has their ups and downs - between every "Vivy: Flourite's Eye Song" episode 6, or "To Your Eternity" episode 1, there are episodes in each series that are just average compared to the others. Not so Odd Taxi. Almost every episode is better than the last, escalating deliberately towards a conclusion that wraps up the show’s biggest mysteries so seamlessly it does not leave its audience wanting. It has been so long since I have had the pleasure of watching an animated series, or even a series in general, put together so fastidiously (the last one being Sam Esmail’s "Mr. Robot", a TV series that likewise, feels like a movie that invites a probing eye and welcomes discussion amongst its audience). Amid our fixation with bigger, louder sequels and adaptations, we are finally gifted with a short, standalone anime that, for once, feels… complete. I can think of no better praise than saying that the outstanding Fruit Basket aired its series finale on the same day – yet, oddly enough, all I can think of was Odd Taxi's conclusion that Monday. 10/10.

This review is in both English and Bengali. -----English----- In a word, a modern masterpiece. There is no reason not to watch this. It will always be a jewel in the mystery genre. Brief introduction: The story takes place in Tokyo, Japan. The protagonist of the story is a middle-aged taxi driver named Odokawa. His nature is to speak less and speak in a cynical tone. In each episode of the story he serves different passengers. In the story, he happens to be involved in the kidnapping of a high school girl. He gets chased by two members of the Japanese mafia. Will Odokawa be able to save himself and go back to normal life? Story: 10 Great plot. As unpredictable as it is fun. Many seemingly isolated plot points continue running in parallel here. In each episode, viewers are given small clues so that they can take part in solving the main mystery of the story with Odokawa. With great direction and scriptwriting, the story has come to life. And the twist of the last episode of the story has taken it to the heights of a masterpiece. Characterization: 10 This anime provided the best characterization that was expected from a story centric show. Although the number of episodes of the story is low, there are a lot of characters. Nevertheless, one can easily connect oneself with the characters, understand their mentality, guess what they might do at a point in time. They seem to be real life characters. The side characters have also been carefully portrayed. Art and animation: 8 Somewhat unique art style and character design has been used here to complement the story. Although it was not dazzling, there was no deviation in the enjoyment. Sound: 9 Opening songs, ending songs, background music - everywhere the sound has been used in the light of the city pop theme. It fit perfectly with the thrilling story happening in the city of Tokyo. The director did not hesitate to use different sounds according to the mood of the story. Enjoyment: 10 As a fan of the Mystery genre, this anime was my best gift this year. I used to wait eagerly for it every week. I will remember for a long time the characters of the story, the cynical talk of Odokawa, the very real issues that come up in the story, and that strong twist at the end of the story. Check it out without delay. Watch it again and again. Because there are many clues scattered in this gem!

The main storyline concerns a walrus named Odokawa's mysterious past, a bunch of interconnecting stories told in the style of a slice of life drama, and a decently complex crime story involving a missing girl and various yakuza-fronted operations. There are a lot of subtle moments and scenes that will undoubtedly take on a new meaning with a second viewing. A few plot points are a bit sloppy and maybe could have been fleshed out more, but this rarely detracts from the overall picture. This show has gotten a lot of praise. Perhaps that's deserved in some part, but I'd hardly call it a masterpiece—a word bandied about far too lightly nowadays, and I've heard this labeled as such by more than a handful of people; nope, I can't really agree. If there's one masterpiece for that specific season, then it's the overlooked Sonny Boy, a surreal, mind-bending, and sensitive drama series that brings to mind Masaaki Yuasa's best works. I agree that this is a good series, but it only seems so fresh because the double-crossing, detective-styled noir is so rare in anime, and I can't help but wonder if Odd Taxi fans have been exposed to the old classics. We have shows like Cowboy Bebop and Baccano, but neither are very similar to the old Hollywood or French noir films—or even Japanese noir like Seijun Suzuki or various studio productions. Odd Taxi pulls it off, has a unique twist, a snappy visual style, and charming anthropomorphic character designs that thankfully come across as more classical, and nothing like the furry trash that has taken the internet by storm. The ending is... maybe an acquired taste? I doubt there will be a second season (I think there is a companion film now), but this has an open ending. Not bad, though it leaves me a bit indifferent. The writing and humor are quite good--definitely above average. Some might find that the shenanigans of the comedian duo don't fit so well, but they are loosely tied in, and the themes and insights of their segments work so well with everything else; I wouldn't change a thing. A suitable soundtrack, excellent directing, etc. I'd just suggest you pay very close attention or prepare to watch this one a second time. The only serious complaints I have, aside from general unevenness, is probably the main character. His motivations are wonky, and he seems like too much of a dopey do-gooder to pull off such a masterful scheme and figure out everything; his deadpan nature is pretty amusing, though. The rapping porcupine, always accompanied by his trademark beat, is definitely a character you'll either love or hate. Really, really annoying. The alpaca's capoeira gag is also pretty silly, and a very ridiculous deus ex machina is associated with this character.

If I had to summarize this show in two words, I'd say anti-climatic coincidences. Many plot points and characters start to get built up just to be ignored for large portions of the season and conflicts end quickly and with a unsatisfactory conclusion. I wouldn't say any of the characters are memorable, aside from the main character who I'd say is barely memorable. Many of the plot points occur out of complete coincidences (too many to be believable). Many dark scenes have incredibly weird moods, as many characters casually talk about killing people and attempting to kill people just for others to casually shrug it off. The show is definitely watchable and a decent time spender, but it is most definitely not worth the 10/10 masterpiece ratings it is receiving.

10/10 This is possibly one of the greatest anime that I've watch (I've only watched around 100 anime and completed around 70 so It isn't much) I consider it great because everything starts making sense. I think the best way to watch this is to just enjoy it and just rewatch it afterwards to see the hints that leads to the ending. I think spoilers in reviews is pointless because I sometimes read the reviews before watching an anime **********************STORY************************************************************************* But all I can say for the ending is "AMAZING!!!!!". things that don't even matter feels like it mattered and serve a purpose. Every dialogue and scene feels like there is a lot of things to see, there's little to none seconds on this anime is wasted. It somehow even though the anime feels like there is a lot going on you were still kept on tract and not get lost, and best thing is you don't get fed up with it. **********************ART*************************************************************************** The art style just matches the story. It makes the story kind of wholesome and chill even though the story is intense and dark *******************SOUND*************************************************************************** The sound and dialogue are great. The conversations flows like water without it sounding cringy. *****************ENJOYMENT************************************************************************* I enjoyed the anime mainly because I wasn't spoiled. And it also matched if not surpassed my expectation. I first watched this anime because it's weird (cause an animal that is a taxi driver), then dropped it because I thought it's going to be a slice of life anime. But I returned again to watch because of the reviews I hear and I'm also curious to how the anime plays out. Now that I've completed it, all I can say is DAMN I was so close into dropping a gem because of my short span attention.

If Odd Taxi was just the Gacha Episode, it would have already made my list for Anime of The Season. A sobering yet needed look on the predatory nature of gacha, tied to a descent into madness and an atmosphere that rivals actual full length horror anime, Episode 4 of Odd Taxi is a must watch for anyone, especially those with personal experiences with gacha systems at any point in their lives. Of course, Odd Taxi also has a bonus mystery-crime drama section that make up the other 12 episodes, that is, also, incredibly gripping. An anime made by a studio that specializes in otherwise cutesy animal-centric shows, penned by a newbie director, and filled with anthropomorphic animals may be a turn off for some. Indeed, even the synopsis on this very site did very little to sell the anime. However, this show has got to be the best crime drama I have ever seen as an anime. Apart from one singular plot hole, the anime is absolutely brilliant in every way, from music, to directing, to writing. While it doesn't exceed something of the likes of an actual crime film or live action drama, as an anime, it easily sits leaps and bounds over almost everything else the industry has to offer. As someone who's not overly familiar with many crime dramas, my go to pick for an intriguing crime drama thriller is usually the Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku series, so forgive me if my comparisons may end up seeming like faint praise to Odd Taxi for simply being competent. Watching Odd Taxi is akin to experiencing the best parts of Yakuza for me, with its ever building intrigue lasting for episodes on end, with every episode having me at the edge of my seat and the week long wait for the next episode being excruciating as they are as I draft theories on what the solution to the mystery is. And what a mystery it is. It's actually really simple, but almost no element (save one) comes out of left field. Almost everything is perfectly foreshadowed and all that build up resulted in such a beautiful payoff in the end. Anime original endings usually tend to suck, even for some of my all time favorite series. They'd normally rush everything out in the final episode and leave no time for us to properly see our characters off. Not Odd Taxi. This show has quite possibly one of my favorite endings in an Anime Original show, perfectly wrapping every character's arc in a neat little bow, and delivering the perfect payoff to everything they've built since episode 1. Odd Taxi has a great balance of mystery, drama, and comedy. It doesn't dwell too much being in one particular genre, and the comedic timings are usually just perfect enough to cap off either a dramatic scene from being too drawn out. This isn't a lighthearted show though. I was genuinely surprised at how grim this show can get despite its cutesy exterior, and having an adult be the main protagonist (a middle aged one at that!) does make him more empathetic now that I'm getting old myself. As you grow older, you tend to empathize more with characters, even fictional ones, closer to your age range, no? Hanae Natsuki steals the show as Odokawa. I was actually shocked to see his name in the credits, after being so accustomed to his pretty boy roles over the years. He absolutely nailed the voice of a disgruntled middle-aged man (Walrus) in this show. You also get quite a few names who don't normally do anime, including two actual stand up comedians, and a rapper. They fit their roles perfectly and I simply could not imagine anyone else in that role. Speaking of characters, I do appreciate how real everyone felt, ironically despite being anthropomorphic animals, none of them fit into the standard animal stereotypes, and everyone acts like an actual real person (well, as "real" as these dramas get). I do like how despite the local yakuza gang member being all buddy buddy with Odokawa, the show is still quick to remind you that despite all of his charisma, he is a criminal and should be feared in some way. If I have any gripe at all with the series, it's the occasional contrived convenient moment where someone shows up at the right place at the right time. Or how Tokyo only ever has the Daimon brothers as policemen. Honestly, there are reasonable theories to explain away some contrivances, but it still bugs me that, for as detail-oriented this show is, some rather glaring plot holes still slip through the cracks. If it wasn't for the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Odd Taxi, I may have placed these flaws at much greater scrutiny. A missing girl, One Billion Yen, An idol group, A Yakuza gang, A comedic duo, Six Bullets, Social Media, Gacha, and A Taxi. Odd Taxi has several smaller stories alongside Odokawa's main arc, but the fact that they all either converge together or resolve nicely without being completely disjointed from the main experience is a testament to Odd Taxi's excellence. Anime, hell even actual dramas, rarely come this close in delivering a gripping mystery without throwing in random out of nowhere surprises, let alone tell a story without being overly melodramatic, while at the same time retaining its humanity. All with funny talking animals. 9/10

An odd mundane mystery. Each scene though unconventional, did seem intentional and well thought out, unfortunately the whole plot and most episodes overall were not captivating. The mystery of the anime seemed quite straight forward and predictable, which lead to the ''mystery'' of the show becoming lackluster. Admittedly a lot of the characters had interesting lore and played important roles within context of the story, yet I couldn't find reasoning to care or become deeply attached to these characters like others have. The artistic decisions feel representative of the characters, which is a positive. Overall just an ok watch, the anime definitely gets more interesting the further you get into it, with the last episode being very solid. Not something I personally would re-visit but I see an avenue in which others can find enjoyment in this.
