Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S: Japanese Hospitality (The Attendant is a Dragon)

I must say if you love Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid series then you will definitely love this. It's just as wholesome, fun, and charming as a regular episode. You must have read in some other reviews that it has "loli fanservice" and so on but to be honest those scenes are barely noticeable, really short, and most probably won't notice them, that is unless you are really looking for them (like some kind of insane critic). So to conclude I would say that you should just ignore those reviews, go ahead and watch this wholesome treat and enjoy it to the fullest.

The vibes of this OVA are fucked The story idea is nice. Chloe, the girl Kanna met in the US, is coming over for a visit. They go on a trip to play around in Akihabara and on the next day hang out with Saikawa. But it's just so creepy at times that I can't enjoy it. Dragon Maid is sadly no stranger to loli and shota fanservice. Especially the scenes with Shouta and Quetzalcoatl are terrible, but this one cranks it up a notch. Spending time with Kanna and Saikawa involves going swimming, of course featuring swimsuits and asshots of the little girl characters, and then playing Twister, with more asshots and them falling all over each other. You know this shit is made for the lolicon audience. It didn't have to be like that, it could have just been a normal OVA, but they decided to make it raunchy and that sucks.

Surprisingly, in this OVA they bring us Chloe, the blonde girl who only appears in one episode of KMD S. For better or for worse, this OVA has a lot of good scenes and little raunchy scenes (because they are kids!), but I guess that's the essence of KMD. Although in this story the main protagonists are Saikawa, Kanna and Chloe, in the same way all the characters have their own scenes, giving us the vibes of the show. In summary, the OVA is entertaining, quick and enjoyable, but there may be scenes that make you feel a bit uncomfortable (especially for people like me, since I don't like fanservice or ecchi). Removing all that, don't miss this OVA, is only 20 minutes.

TLDR @ bottom Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S: Nippon no Omotenashi - Attend wa Dragon Desu isn’t something we haven’t seen before. Simply put, this OVA is Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid minus the deeper aspects of the show. This OVA features Chloe, a girl who - IIRC - we met for 1 episode in the parent story when Kanna traveled to the US. Though, this time the tables are flipped, Chloe is coming over to hang out with Kanna in Japan to experience their culture! However, this premise in and of itself isn’t too much to behold, but I’m sure with all that we’ve seen from the parent story and the amazing animation surrounding the Dragon Maid series watching this will surely pay off… right? Well… kinda. Overall the OVA serves its purpose as your average OVA, however, I did expect a little more from the OVA due to what Dragon Maid has presented us in the past. Lemme explain. Though the characters that we saw in Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid all appear (or at least the main cast) in this OVA I somewhat wish they hadn't. Due to all the characters being present, this didn’t leave as much room in the OVA for really diving into the interpersonal traits of any one character; as I would have expected them to do with Chloe since we don’t know her character that well. Instead, each character gets at least a little screen time showing off the overused tropes we all saw within the main series. Honestly, it was annoying. There was potential for this OVA to mean at least something beyond “haha. slice of life, comedy” but it seems that this was basically unnecessary filler of things that were just re-showcased from the parent story, in the form of an OVA. Though what I just mentioned may be a turn away for some, something that certainly wasn’t was an impressive animation maintained throughout the OVA by Kyoto Animation. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting over-the-top animation for an OVA, but I guess it does fit with the series considering what they have done in the past, and I’m glad they stuck to it. The animation was not a disappointment and was just as stunning as its predecessor. Congrats Kyoto Animation for doing something above mediocre with this OVA! Now, if you are someone who was going to watch this OVA to see what Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid could do next to top off their series with some sort of interesting plot I wouldn’t bother wasting your time. The whole OVA was everyone from Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid’s main cast + Chloe exploring places like Akihabara, the schoolhouse, and other random locations that we saw in the parent story. This, to say the least, was very mediocre, with very little to offer the audience outside of mostly trivial dialog and repetitive use of character tropes. It’s not as if this OVA had nothing to offer and there were some heartwarming moments between Kanna and her friends that she was building a relationship with, however, it all really came back around, and the characters were in pretty much the same spots they were before the OVA took place. Finally, I’d like to mention something that I noticed others commenting on after finishing the OVA; that is the “ecchi” aspects to the OVA. Now Ima be honest here and say that I didn’t even really think of most of the scenes that some said pandered to lolicons as such. Though, the way some were talking about these scenes could make the OVA come off as an excuse to show overtly erotic scenes of characters such as Kanna, Chloe, and Saikawa. In reality, there was like 1 Twister scene for a total of 3 seconds that showed an anime character's ass and a pool scene that was the most vanilla pool scene in anime history. If anything, I disliked the Twister scene more due to the fact that it was just an excuse to exploit Saikawa’s character trope and throughout the pool scene added nothing of value to the OVA in any aspect, not the supposed raunchiness. I love the notion that this was made for lolicons because it’s completely laughable due to how non-erotic it is relative to anything else in anime. And sure saying something isn’t relatively bad isn’t really a good point, but the entire OVA is pretty vanilla. So if you were worried about being uncomfortable with any of the scenes, don’t be, just ignore it, as looking at it objectively these scenes are minute compared to the overarching blandness of the actual content of the OVA. TLDR: When broken down there isn’t much to say about this OVA. I really believe all the aspects of the OVA balanced themselves out. There were definitely below-average parts about this OVA (overuse of character tropes & lackluster story), but there were good parts as well (amazing art style & relationship building between Kanna and Chloe). If you were wondering if you should spend your time on this it all comes down to how much you liked and what parts you enjoyed of the parent story. Did you enjoy the SOL parts of Dragon Maid, if so you’d definitely love this, but if you only liked it because of the intricate story don't bother.

(!!!!THIS MAY CONTAIN LIGHT SPOILERS!!!) This is a very fabulous episode which is originally a special episode of "Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S" BTW, this episode doesn't contain any vital events connected to the main plot; you can skip it if you wish. This episode revolves around a hangout between Kobayashi's group and a character that was introduced in "Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S" aka Chloe. The art, animation, characters, and sounds are all on the same level as the main series. Which is perfect! Personally, I enjoyed it very much as it gives the same vibe as the main series which I obviously liked very much. If you liked "Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S" or are interested in Chloe you should definitely give this a shot. Enjoy 💖

Since this is a single anime special, I'm just here to talk about what I thought about the OVA without diving too much into it. This special turned from a one-episode last Harrah (For now) into a one-hit-wonder in my book. From the moment they announced the OVA with a teaser trailer I knew this was going to be a good one. And it was. Episode 10 of Season 2 basically promised us a return of Chloe, who was the main star of that episode. It is also coincidentally my most memorable episode of the series because it's one of those out-of-the-blue ideas that we didn't know we needed. A successful episode, indeed, warranted a return of this new and likable character. To theme an entire OVA around them was an awesome idea and a gift to everybody who loved that episode, including myself. Although Chloe was obviously the center of attention in this special, there's no shortage of what makes the series so enjoyed by its fanbase. Moving aside from the controversies over the vibe it gives (COUGH COUGH BIRD APP), this OVA still utilizes the original cast to its fullest potential and nailed the characters and their interactions. In particular, Saikawa meeting Chloe was just about the most wholesome thing to come out of this series, not that it's not wholesome already. Heck, that has been something I've looked forward to ever since the episode aired. The whole special was just a fun-filled project with a touch of seriousness when it came to the culture shock Chloe experienced. I loved the scene between her and Kobayashi, the vibe was great and the grown-up conveyed just the right amount of information to avoid misunderstanding. Chloe's friendship with Kanna got more development, and I do bet on some sort of tension between Saikawa and Chloe. The potential for these three absolutely guarantees there's more in store. But of course, the end of the episode and what Kobayashi said to Tohru indicates that there's still more for her and the other Dragons. Season 2 was only the start of KyoAni's genius attempt to tap into the potential of everyone in the cast. This OVA is almost like a message from them that even though the circumstances leading up to this show's sequel season were so dramatic and horrifying, now, they're doing just fine. With the support from its fanbase, this OVA is like their thank you gift to us, and a heads up that this franchise still has more to come. If a season 3 comes up, you know I'll be back on the hype train.

Warning: Spoilers Hot dog I was so happy to see this had been released! KMD is pure dopamine for me, from the banger op to the amazing animation. KMDS was a great return to form, and like the first season's OVA this one gets a bit crazy. First and foremost I don't view the skinship scenes between the kids as anything more than playful fun. Saiktawa's enthusiasm for cute girls was amusing to me, but only because it was just so extra. I think that's a big part of her character, having extreme reactions to things. She's very emotional and has picked fights and taken up challenges all because of her emotions. While I can't relate to how she reacts to skinship I do know what it's like to only want your friend to be friends with you. Definitely experienced a lot of sapphic love in my youth. I know it's cliche but I'm really glad all the gang got together for the OVA. I love the whole cast and it was great seeing them interact. It was a bit of a disappointment to not see any outstanding animation shots like in the main series, but I also get that this OVA was likely a lighthearted project to ease off animating the series. There was also some subtle hints regarding the later plot of the manga, but I wont go into any more detail in case any of you haven't read that far. I genuinely don't know how Kyoto Animation does it, but whenever they do an emotional scene I'm in tears immediately. My high school friends all moved to other areas of my country and when the girls said their goodbye's at the end my heart ached remembering having to say goodbye to my friends when they left, or worse, finding out they left afterwards and never getting to say goodbye. Anyway I probably just have rose-tinted glasses for this series because it's gotten me through the last leg of my depression. But yeah, after so long without KMD and then finally getting KMDS I was more than happy to watch this OVA, sing along to the op and ed, and just soak up that warm Kyoto animation I've come to love. One more thing, please stop loliconing Ilulu. She's the same age as Tohru, just shorter and bustier. KMDS and this OVA really demonstrated how she's just an adult that missed out on childhood, and is reliving it in the healthiest ways she can. Short people can have big breasts, get over it.

Could've been a nice wholesome story, maybe even diving into the differences in culture between Japan and America. But unfortunately, it's a rather generic "summer" episode featuring a foreign character that for all intents and purposes is just another Japanese character. I know Japan likes their lolis, but this was just bad. It's not even comparable to the loli fanservice in the regular episodes. There the fanservice lies in how cute, seiso, and uwu the loli characters are. In this episode, the loli characters were actually being sexualized. To the extent where background characters were taking pictures of the "hot" loli. Most of it is just another episode, so if you're a fan of the show, watch it. Just be aware of the fanservice moments as they can really pull you out of the flow.

A simple, cute, and fun special. Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S: Nippon no Omotenashi - Attend wa Dragon desu is exactly the kind of special designed to please existing fans of the series. It doesn't try to tell a grand story or introduce a major conflict. Its premise is much simpler: following Kobayashi, Tohru, Kanna, and Chloe on a short tour of some Japanese tourist spots, showcasing a bit of local culture while delivering the franchise's signature humor. Much of the special plays out like a tour of Japan. Kanna wants to show Chloe a bit of the country, resulting in several lighthearted and relaxed scenes. Don't expect character development or events that alter the main storyline, as that definitely isn't the goal here. It is essentially a "slice-of-life" episode focused on everyday moments and interactions among the cast. As is tradition with Maid Dragon, humor is present throughout. Some jokes land better than others, but overall, the special manages to elicit a few good laughs. The scene where Ilulu points out that a guy doesn't like her, but rather her breasts, was the one that made me laugh the most. It’s that kind of casual, low-stakes humor that fits the characters' personalities perfectly. There are also plenty of cute moments involving Kanna and Chloe, who remain a highly charismatic duo. Their friendship is easily one of the special's highlights, capturing that cozy atmosphere the series is known for. On the other hand, the anime still includes some scenes featuring mild fanservice. It doesn't go overboard or significantly detract from the experience, but it is part of the work's identity and appears here as well. Anyone who has watched the series knows exactly what to expect. Visually, Kyoto Animation's work remains stunning. The animation maintains the excellent quality of the main season, featuring highly expressive characters, colorful backgrounds, and direction that highlights quieter, more contemplative moments. It is a simple special, yet one that is beautifully produced. The soundtrack, on the other hand, is merely competent. It serves its purpose of accompanying the scenes and supporting the episode's lighthearted atmosphere, but there isn't any music that truly stands out or leaves a lasting impression after the special ends. Ultimately, this content is aimed squarely at fans of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. If you enjoy the characters and simply wanted to spend a few more minutes with them in funny, cute situations, you’ll likely have a good time. However, those looking for something significant to the plot or a more emotionally charged episode might find it all a bit too simple. It is a short, unpretentious, and enjoyable special that delivers exactly what it promises: some funny moments, some truly adorable ones, and a healthy dose of the heartwarming vibe that won the series so many fans. Raiting: 6/10. Nota: 6/10.

Even for a show with a fair bit of degenerate lolibait content, this OVA makes it unignorable. I was so deeply uncomfortable watching this episode it tainted my perspective on the rest of the show. The jokes aren't funny, the fanservice focuses nearly entirely on 3 prepubescent girls, and the plot has null substance. Shameful work and especially after enjoying the rest of the show quite a bit, watching this afterwards leaves a deeply sour taste in my mouth. This OVA is not a necessary watch at all, so if you have any moral qualms with loli content, I would recommend skipping it entirely - I wish I would have.
