A 4-year oId boy moves into an apartment by himself. The neighbors befriend (sorta adopt) him and during his daily adventures we learn about his past. I work in child/youth care, and while 4 years old is a bit extreme (5-6 would have been better), it was very realistic in the emotional sense. The interactions, too. The creator put much thought, effort and emotion into this and you can feel that. Not just Kotaro, but the other people all got their moments. The episodic subplots and background characters were just as interesting and really had you feel with- and like them. The art wasn't really special but it fit the story, atmosphere and characters. It was perfect like that, especially with the little details in the characters expressions and movements. The music was chosen well and beautiful and the voice acting for each character was on point. While it hurt to watch sometimes and is heavy on the heart, especially if you're sensitive to topics like child trauma, abuse and domestic violence in general and loneliness/depression/suicide, it mostly made me feel better. Because the writers knew what they where doing and it wasn't supposed to hurt, but to inform and catch the viewer. I definetely recommend it.

This anime was funny, entertaining, heartwarming and heartbreaking. It is also actually one of the few anime I prefer English dubbed over subbed. Kotaru is only 4 but speaks more eloquently than any ordinary adult. He moves into a building on his own because of a complicated relationship with his parents and absolutely comical events start happening from there. Kotaru is an understanding, clever and peculiar child acting more like an adult and immediately becomes great friends with all of his neighbours. We follow his life and certain hardships he goes through, the way he helps his adult friends and more. I started watching this with a friend and we were both surprised by how quickly the episodes seemed to go by even though each episode was 27 minutes long! It is really funny to look at the absurdity of some of these scenes or e.g. the iconic "hahaha" from the mangaka's boss. Some other scenes like those concerning Kotaru's past are also quite touching. Absolutely recommended.

Kotaro Lives Alone is a show that left me feeling a lot of emotions as I watched it. The concept of child abandonment isn't something that's regularly discussed and it was hard to grapple with the jokes that were being thrown about that just didn't sit quite right because they were grounded in the realities of this child growing up in a very difficult situation. Needless to say, many tears were shed. While the animation leaves a bit to be desired, I don't think that it detracts from the message of the show and the interactions that the main characters have with each other. I truly believe this is one of the best anime I have consumed in the last several years, and I would heavily implore more people to give it a watch. It's overflowing with heart, and I can't wait for a 2nd season.

This was a rollorcoster of emotions. This anime will easily the best anime of 2022. One of the best this about is the appropriate timing for every emotions. You could tell every single emotional seen was so carefully planned out. I thought it was amazing how they made every character very interesting and unique, It made the show worth watching. As the show progresses it keeps getting deeper meaning with every episode. The fact that it used a lot of real word situation, such as child abuse and many others situations made it much more enjoyable and realistic. This is one of the animes that you watch with your friends in one night.

Kotaro Lives Alone is great to watch, it's funny many times but the drama is what makes this series work, for me that have 31 years old, every subject that deals with children in anime moves me, but even here there is no violence, seeing how a 4-year-old deals with life is enough to make you have tears in your eyes, The last episode made me cry, I admit it! kkkkk, it is a light comedy and very exciting, even some stories are not so interesting, the series manages to hold you very well during the 10 episodes of practically 30 min. OBS: The animation of Isamu's clothes is very strange, it just didn't bother me more than the shape of Kotarou and Shin's eyes, it looks like a lizard or something. waiting for a new season, but I will continue in the manga without a doubt!

“The role of parents in raising children What exactly is that?” It is the second work of new director Tomoe Makino that is considered very successful with this story. It tells the story of a four-year-old boy named Kotaro, who moved into the apartment alone. and ask more questions to the audience because this child does not look like other children. because of the lost joy Become a moonless and self-reliant child. The story will gradually tell the history of this child. and open up a new world of people who come into the life of Kotaro ready to give lessons to both sides. The plot is told in a slice of life, non-episodic manner, where Kotaro interacts with other people. because even though he looks like a smart kid relies on your own eyes But all the tenderness and innocence remained. Thus making the story give a smile. and good humor meanwhile The mood switch was transformed into unconscious sadness. Kotaro's past is unintentionally revealed. without forcing the audience to feel sympathy but to help that child and overcome various obstacles. So that's one of the highlights that this story is doing very well. funny to sad or switch from sad to funny by inserting ideas and ending with a feeling of gratitude in the conclusion of each episode as mentioned Can this be a lesson to parents on how to raise their children? How should I arrange a time between work and children? Where does your child's happiness come from? How much should a child be self-reliant? The plot is a bit too much about the relationship between parents and children. until making it sometimes predictable, but at least what was said It's not a repetitive issue, and it's straightforward. It's not difficult to understand. Kotaro wants to live like other children but also gives a lesson not just to his parents. but also for children of the same age In order not to have enough to meet like Kotaro himself. We will see many types of family patterns. and the issue of apartment-mates who take care of the mind and to help with any problems that may be able to help. Art may look simple and there is not a lot of movement but the music op&ed are very well. The use of music in the background is good, rhythmic, and what I like most would be Kotaro's Japanese voice acting Which makes the sound look cute and witty until it makes it more attractive. All in all, Kotaro Lives Alone is one touching story of various forms of family trouble mixed with the humor of Kotaro's interactions with other people. perfectly

personally this anime was a shocker to me. I thought it would be a good anime since it was on netflix but it turned out to be unexpectedly awesome. I guess the best anime lidens flims has produced. the story is very character centered and the main character is written very well although the MC is dependent on side character which makes the story more elaborate. the best part about the MC is its backstory is not yet completely revealed but whatever is revealed is very impactful and EMOTIONAL. basically a 4 years old boy lives in a rented apartment. where are his parents? how is he living alone? all are revealed exceptionally along every episode. the design and art of character and background seem to be vintage and pretty vague. at first i did not understand the why is the character made in such way why are his eyes so weird but while watching it i understood that the design is made in such a vague manner to clearly reflect the emotion of the character. though a bit vague. the character are also very well written. their past experience somehow relates to the MC which makes the anime more interesting to watch since the MC is also impacting others life as their life is impacting and how they are cooperating with each other. since MC is 4 years old the emotions and honesty of the child is perfectly depicted in the anime and how the life he is living is impacting him and the eothers around him If i had to rate this anime on just art and sound i would have given it 5 or a 6 but remember Netflix is licensing it. the reason is the story and the script is exceptionally written and perfectly depicted on screen. i watched the whole season in just one night it was so good. I myself am giving this anime a 10 because the story is very good for a slice of life. DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER the art may and animation may be weird but the anime is definitely worth a watch. the voice acting is perfect as if you could feel the emotion of the character. you will definitely have a moment in EVERY EPISODE that will make your eyes teary. watch it. it is worth your time.

This Anime is about this 4 year toddler named "Kotarou", who started to live alone in an apartment. But despite his age, Kotarou acts very mature. He addresses everyone with honorifics, he doesn't cry for every small mistake, he understands everyone easily... To put it simply, he's like the "Perfect Kid" every parent want their child to be. So, he should be happy, right?.. Right? At it's core, this show tells how tragic it looks when a toddler tries so hard to be mature for the sake of others, when he should be enjoying the only time he can be as a child. Even though, there's a fair amount of light hearted moments blended in every episode, it never looks like he's having fun, when he can & probably should be having fun more than anyone. For me, the most relieving scenes are, when when Kotarou tries to imitate Tonosan, a fictional character who fights for justice (and looks a lot similar to Anpaman). They are the only moments I find relieving, cause those were the only times he acts as a kid. His neighbors aren't really the best examples you can think of for "adults". One is a lazy manga artist, one is a hostess and one is a Yakuza (There are others too). But they act all childish whenever they're around Kotarou and care for him a lot. It's like they are indirectly trying to tell him that it's OK to be childish, despite having their own trouble on their hands. They all live a broken life, but their encounters with Kotarou helps them to grow and this also applies to Kotarou himself. While everyone is growing up to be an adult, he's growing up to become a kid. As for the technical side of things, the art style and animation are bare minimum for an SoL show but the voice acting is really top notch. They really did an excellent job at hiring talented voice actors and they did a really great job. And the music fits the tone of the show pretty well too. The animation could be a little better tho. If there's one complaint for me, it's that it gets a bit repetitive after a certain event in the middle of the show (somewhere around episode 5 or 6). And there are 2 or 3 sexual jokes that are very unnecessary. It had a promising start but goes a little downhill in the middle and picks up at the final episode (The final episode is really good). Kotarou's past is by far the most mysterious thing in the show and isn't explored much cause the show took it's time to explore the character relationships with Kotarou. "We spend our childhood wanting to grow up faster. But we spend out whole adult life, wanting to go back to the simplicity of being a kid again". Summary "Kotarou lives alone" is a story that tackles some heavy themes like child trauma and loss, with it's simplistic drama and mature cast.

This anime is one of the example as to why you don't judge a book by its cover. Why? I started the anime expecting a wholesome, funny and a feel good slice of life, while it does have those elements, there are also some elements I wasn't expecting and that is the inclusion of a more serious topic like abusive parents, an abusive relationship, parents neglecting their child and more. Aight I'll talk about the show now. Story Kotaro lives alone. Pretty self explanatory to be honest. We see Kotaro's day to day life along with his neighbors. As to why he lives alone, we get to learn about it the more we follow his story. We also got to know his neighbors so yes. Art I don't think the art is anything crazy but the art style did grew on me as it does fit the slice of life and comedy genre. Character I love the characters so fucking much. Most of them are likeable, character like Karino is relatable af. Yea idk what else to say other than most of the characters are fun and very likeable in my opinion. Enjoyment YES! YES! YES! I enjoyed the show soooo much but I don't think that it's for everyone. Slice of life isn't for everyone and the addition of the serious topics definitely isn't for everyone. I do like the way they approach the serious topics since it is definitely a real world issue that people do go through. So yea, overall I enjoyed the hell out of this show, I hope we get a season 2, not the most likely to happen but I can dream... Yea, go watch this amazing show. Thank you for reading if you did do that lmao.
