Mato Seihei no Slave is just an ordinary modern day ecchi action series; it's neither particularly good nor awful. Is it worthwhile to watch? Most probably. This show is probably not for you if you're looking for a deeper plot, but it's clear that it's not attempting to be one. It's a lighthearted show with occasional ecchi content that's quite watchable. The plot isn't too crazy: parallel worlds, bad guys that enter the human realm and have the potential to kill or kidnap people, and a defense force that is made up exclusively of women because they are the only ones with abilities in this universe to oppose the bad guys. But, surprise! Even though he is a man, the MC is involved in something :P I promise there aren't many fanservice scenes in this show; either I'm dreaming or I remember the manga having a ton of them. Furthermore, because Kyouka has to give Yuuki something every time she uses her slave powers, this content isn't overly insistent for the sole purpose of fanservice or ecchi content. Rather, it serves a purpose in the plot. Although the animation studio is not among the most prominent, it was still done fairly well for modern anime, with some decent CGI used occasionally that didn't look out of place unlike some other shows. I only heard the opening and ending themes once, and consequently skipped them the first time I watched an episode, so I can't really comment on the soundtrack.

I like a few things like chained soldier, an action comedy and also the sexual part of animes like this, you might say I'm crazy about sex, no, I don't even my lust rises with these kinds of animes, think for a moment that this anime doesn't have these sexual things. . Is it possible at all? you can? Well, we assume that you have to. Well, do you think this story is still there? Only action is important??? I think the anime was very good and beautiful, but it's a pity that many of the events that happen in the manga don't happen here, and many of those scenes were cut. I hope the second season doesn't happen like that.

Finally, today, I completed watching "Chained Soldier." I had read the manga a long time ago, before the anime adaptation began airing. I thought it would be interesting to revisit the story through the anime. However, after watching the entire season, I must admit I'm disappointed. When I started reading the manga, around a year ago, I had hopes for a compelling storyline. However, after delving into it, I found myself encountering repetitive content in each chapter. There seemed to be a lack of character development, which made it hard for me to get invested in the story. While I understand that sometimes it takes time for a plot to unfold, after 25 chapters, I expected more progress. As for the anime adaptation, it fell short of my expectations. The pacing felt rushed, with numerous scenes cut short, ultimately damaging any chance for proper character development. Additionally, the animation quality was lackluster, failing to captivate me visually. The ecchi scenes, which could have added some excitement, were heavily censored, diminishing my enjoyment even further. Comparing the two mediums, I would say the manga is the better option. Despite its flaws, the artwork remains commendable, providing some redeeming qualities. However, I wouldn't necessarily recommend either to someone unless they have ample free time and a strong interest in the genre. Given my disappointment with the first season, I have little hope for a second season. It's unfortunate, but I doubt the series will improve significantly without addressing these issues.

Way better than expected. Do not be fooled by the low average score. There are some topics that may turn people off, but there are so many turn ons about this show its worth trying the 3 episode rule. Feels like Akame ga Kill crossed with Quintessential Quintuplets. 1. Lots of nudity and ecchi - done in a creative and funny way. 2. Fun action with interesting powers - grounded and suspenseful. 3. Submissive main character - but actually not totally boring or spineless, the show literally tells you he will be a (heroic) slave so be prepared. His inner desires will surprise you every episode. 4. Simple and engaging story - doesn't go into giant monologues and complicated information dumps while keeping you genuinely curious about the world and its characters. Eagerly awaiting season 2.

Mato Seihei no Slave is a show that honestly surprised me, I wasn't expecting anything when I went into it but I really ended up enjoying this. A mostly female cast is always cool and I really do think the characters were great, as far as harem protagonists go Yuuki was pretty solid and the girls were so much fun to watch. Their development was great and I think the power system was interesting too. And Tenka. Oh my god Tenka. I need you please hit me up. Anyways I really lived for the "reward" scenes if I'm being honest they were kinda the highlight for me like I looked forward to those more than most other things in this show but that's just a testament to how well they were executed. Whilst the action may have been lacking a little the fights were still fun and I wasn't really taken out of it by weaker CGI or anything like that. Overall I liked this a lot more than I thought I would, definitely recommend if you're not really looking for a serious watch cos I was very entertained!

Chained Soldier had every potential to be breast in class, breaking the mold and proving that there’s a place for degeneracy in the upper ecchi-lons of anime. Unfortunately the story just couldn’t seem to get it up. Our titular character, and the majority of the cast were pretty dry in the end. The animation and the action were actually decent, and it was fun watching everyone get licked. There was one great moment of character driven story between two sisters, but the rest was hard to swallow, and otherwise the plot on the hole felt really forced. If culture is all you’re here for then you’re in luck, because it’s all you’re gonna get.

If you love old school harem anime you will absolutely love this one! Just when I thought they don't make 'em like this anymore, it turns out they sure do. From the rock OP all the way to the battle scenes and abstract ecchi comedy it had me full of nostalgia. The fantasy setting is also completely free of any video game mechanics or reincarnation style isekai! Also yeah if it isn't obvious its femdom ALTHOUGH it is definitely not limited to that and gender roles are explored in different ways. The premise is basically that another world (Mato) appeared and edible peaches from that world granted superpowers to women (but not men). Women used these powers to fight off demons (called Shuuki) invading from Mato, and of course because this is an 18+ Harem anime their abilities happen to be fetish related half the time. Men meanwhile fell to a social status below women in a classic role reversal. Most of what became of the Earth dimension is shown to us in flashbacks or brief scenes, while the majority of the story takes place in Mato as the protagonist (Yuuki) enlists in the Demon Defense Forces as commander Kyouka's slave warrior. The overall narrative is about Kyouka's rise to become Supreme Commander and change society for the better, so expect a lot of the conflict to revolve around the girls fighting for dominance in addition to the Shuuki killing action scenes. Due to the amount of PLOT I would absolutely caution against watching this with anyone except for those already initiated into PLOT focused anime. Ecchi is definitely getting pretty crazy these days, especially if you watch the uncensored version as I did. Although they do technically stop barely short of fucking in typical Japanese fashion (lol). So its not quite hentai but its probably about the closest I've seen an Ecchi anime get before. Probably a great watch with your closest Otaku buddies nonetheless as its not gonna phase anyone familiar with this type of anime. I almost took one star off because the world building is very rushed compared to the manga but that's an issue with literally all modern 12 episode seasonal anime. So it didn't feel fair and I instead gave it a 10, since for me it has earned a place among my favorites.

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening everyone, I'm here to share my thoughts on Mato Seihei No Slave. I hope you enjoy it. Mato Seihei No Slave is a manga series writting by Takahiro (known for the resounding success of Akame Ga Kill from 2014). The manga currently has 173 chapters and is a series in the genres of ecchi, harem, comedy, action, and a little romance. The story follows young Yuuki Wakura, an ordinary high school student who didn't have many skills, but he compensated as a domestic servant. One day, Yuuki ends up in the Wild World, where there are demons called Shuuki who attack humans, The Demon Extermination Task Force fights and exorcises demons so that there may be more peace in the wilderness. The protagonist is then invited by Kyouka Uzen to become her slave, and he readily accepts, as he wanted to be a hero. The anime then follows the protagonist as he develops his powers, defeats more demons, and discovers revealing things. What do I think of the series overall? History (10/10) The anime's story is quite original. I think it's interesting how the protagonist ends up interacting with all the girls in the harem, but without losing the essence of the action and the focus on exterminating demons, as well as the evolution of each of the female characters, like Himari Azuma who wants to become stronger to prove to her sister Yachiho Azuma that she's not a burden; the protagonist who, in terms of strength, ends up defeating the Shuuki with considerable mastery; Kyouka, the female protagonist, has a very good arc where she defeats the Unichifre; and the secondary characters like Shushu and Nei are more comic relief, but they are very strong. Tenka is also a very cool character, and even the villains thrown in are quite interesting characters. I really like how the author delves into and makes good use of the female characters and Yuuki's evolution; it's very noticeable. I think the story is one of the series' greatest strengths. Animation (10/10) The animation production of Mato Seihei no Slave was done by Seven Arcs studio, and honestly, the animation and art are very good. They manage to deliver visual fluidity in their battles, and the visual effects are very beautiful. This only intensifies the frenetic action in the work, as well as the characters' expressions and even the fanservice scenes, which are very well animated visually. Honestly, I was surprised to see that an ecchi anime would have more visual fluidity than One Punch Man 3rd Season and The Beginning After The End, which are much more acclaimed works than Mato Seihei. Furthermore, I found the series' direction to be very consistent, very competent in the comedy parts, as well as in the action parts. Soundtrack (10/10) The soundtrack for Mato Seihei is one that I particularly enjoyed, as it brings emotion to the action scenes and is very consistent. The opening theme song emphasizes how the story will unfold, and the singer, Akari Kito (Kyouka's voice actress), sang very well. I didn't like the ending theme as much, but that's all, folks. Overall, Mato Seihei no Slave is a very good series with great characters, good animation, an excellent soundtrack, and ecchi elements that aren't too forced. It definitely deserves a 10/10 rating. So that's it, folks! I hope you enjoyed it. Check out my other anime reviews on my profile, and thank you everyone :) Atualization (Mato Seihei No Slave 2) Mato Seihei no Slave 2 premiered on January 8, 2026 and concluded on March 26, 2026, with 12 episodes, this time produced by Passione and Hayabusa Films studios. The story of this second season begins with the introduction of the captains of each division of the demon extermination task force, then introduces each of them and develops their interaction with Yuuki, in addition to also focusing on Kyouka and especially Himari in the Azuma banquet arc. History (10/10) Mato Seihei no Slave 2 remains very consistent in its premise, as the story was already very well established in the first season of this work. They then improve upon this by adding quality, solid character development, charisma to the new characters, and plots that are well-written, without seeming forced like, for example, Blue Exorcist, which tries to deliver a good plot but develops its characters very poorly. Furthermore, characters like Mira, Himari, Yachiho, Fubuki, Kuusetsu (the new villager this season), Ren-chan (the best waifu of this season), even Kyouka and Yuuki, Tenka and the protagonist's sister—all are great characters who had their importance in the work. This is what makes Mato Seihei No Slave different from other ecchi anime like Seikon No Qwaser. It has an awesome lore, great animation and soundtrack, but it falls short in the protagonist, in the interactions between him and the girls, the story development and world-building are flawed. For me, Mato Seihei No Slave is much better than Seikon No Qwaser when it comes to story and character development, The animation, fluidity, and even the protagonist of Mato Seihei no Slave are much better developed than Sasha in Seikon No Qwaser. I think I'm already criticizing Seikon No Qwaser too much and praising Mato Seihei No Slave too much, lol. Animation (10/10) Mato Seihei no Slave 2 was produced by Studio Passione in conjunction with Studio Hayabusa Films, and honestly, the studio change was very good for Mato Seihei no Slave because, even though Seven Arcs did an exceptional job on Mato Seihei no Slave, I felt that Passione gave Mato Seihei no Slave the look it needed and that was missing in the first season of the anime, which in this case was the facial expressions of the characters, which for me improved a lot, because they weren't that expressive in the first season. But the high point of the studio change was the action; Mato Seihei no Slave is one of the ten anime where I think the fights are awesome, The action was much more fluid and well-done than the first season; the episodes had a really high level of production for an ecchi anime. The way the fights are done and how impactful they are, for me, is what elevates Mato Seihei no Slave to another level and makes it one of the author's successes. Furthermore, the subtlety in the details of the battles, the fluidity in the action scenes, and even the use of ecchi were much better than in the first season. So much so that I, and many other people, also became very engrossed in watching this anime, because the production level was very high. Soundtrack (10/10) The soundtrack continues to be very good, with Kohta Yamamoto composing the score. Akari Kito continues to sing the opening theme, titled "Light Me Up." The ending themes are performed by Kana Hanazawa (voice actress for Ren Yamashiro), and the second ending theme is performed by Maaya Uchida (voice actress for Tenka). The use of the soundtrack is something I have no complaints about this season, just like in the first season, but it has also improved a lot overall. Besides the soundtrack having received a nice upgrade, the new soundtracks added to the series, and especially the use of the anime's first opening theme in episode 11 during the battle against Kuusetsu, were simply very well done and very well utilized by the director, who, in my opinion, continues to do a good job. The entire musical aspect of the series deserves praise! 🎊 Overall, the second season was a surprise because I expected something on the same level as the first season, but they delivered a much higher level than expected for Mato Seihei no Slave. For me, it's an anime that generally delivers great action scenes, excellent art, the use of ecchi isn't forced, the story is well-developed, all the characters are very charismatic and most are well-written, the direction is awesome, and the treatment Mato Seihei no Slave 2 received was noticeably much improved. Mato Seihei no Slave remains 10/10.

This is a really decent adaptation. Various shortcomings - most noticeable - obvious and jarring CGI. However, one hard truth of modern animation is that CGI is an easy manner to reduce the workload, especially for smaller teams with strict deadlines and reduced budgets. The show makes up for it with superb voice acting, a great opening and ending, as well as an interesting style with bold colors and stark contrasts. Not to be that guy - but if you enjoyed the anime or like the look of it - you should definitely take a glance at the manga. The manga is amazing, no other way to phrase it. Clean-cut, extremely well written story with a hint of fanservice at just the right moments. Not convinced? Take a look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EkiEdFn1gU Overall, the anime did a decent job at bringing this story to the table, but could definitely do better.

This is the classic anime with lots of fanservice but done right, for once. I'm rating it as what it is, an ecchi, not as a regular anime, and that's why I gave it such a high note. The characters are your classic vanilla characters of any harem anime, you have a bunch of eres, and an idiot main protagonists that, someway somehow, it ends up making them fall for him even if he doesn't notice a thing. The plot is simple but fine, nothing out of the ordinary, and pretty predictable... So... Why an 8? Well... After watching a lot of this kind of shows and getting really disapointed, even if I didn't expected that much, this one, someway hitted the spot that I wanted to watch more, which is really weird on this kind of anime. The fights were nice, the plot, even if it's simple and predictable, it made sense, the characters, even if they're boring, they have some kind of personality and overall I liked them. Am I overrating the show? Yes, by a long shot, and I think the rate that it has on myanimelist, is the right one, tbf, but I feel it should be a bit higher and, therefore, I gave it an 8. You can hate me, don't care xD. Why mixed feelings? Well... It's the king of anime, more than anything else, but If you decided to watch it, you know what you're in for.

Mother of the Magical Soldier Girl's Dormitory. If you've read the Japanese title of Chained Solider and are worried about the "slave" part, you can sigh in relief. This show isn't interested in worryingly whitewashing some of the worst atrocities in human history for the sake of sad incels who wish they had subservient waifu, sex slaves. This is a battle-harem anime about a guy who can turn into a Kaiju monster under the chained leash of his smoking hot commander Waifu's ability. The price she pays for using him in battle is to reward him with whatever he subconsciously desires after he's turned back, which in his case is to have his balls stepped on, his face buried betwixt her thighs as the main protagonist Yuuki takes off her tights or whatever kinky, surprisingly hot activities he subconsciously wants her to do to him. Degenerates assemble. In a world where only women get superpowers and portals leading to a place called Mato filled with monsters can open up can claim victims at random, aspiring hero Yuuki spends his time looking after the waifus (and his cute senpai) of the anti-Demon Corps 7th Corps as their housekeeper whilst he's not fighting monsters. It's a bit like Mother Of The Goddess Dormitory but with more action and without the paedophilia. Speaking of the action, it was shockingly good. Despite some ugly CGI, the animation is dynamic, fast-paced, and fun. What sets Chained Soldier apart from other action anime is its interesting set of powers wielded by the girls. Some are less interesting, like turning into a giant or turning arms into guns; however, some range from gaining super-strength whilst asleep to manipulating space and rewinding time by making Jojo poses. Even Commander Kyouka's enslaving ability is interesting in terms of how it can be implemented. She can even pass on the ability to other corp members, which empowers Yuuki in different ways. It also means they must reward Yuuki in different, increasingly lewd ways. Have you ever wondered what having a giant woman sit on you would be like? This show understands that if you're going to have ecchi scenes, you've got to make them hot, and wow, did the animators at Seven Arcs understand the assignment given to them? The kinky slave stuff is also a genius way to expedition dump an entire military briefing or a world-building explanation to Yuuki without it becoming boring because you're too busy watching him having his lip bitten, panties flashed, titties rubbed against his back, or his balls stepped on. There are some problems. As I said earlier, the CGI can be a bit off-putting due to how ugly it can sometimes look. The first two episodes are also not very good because Yuuki comes across as a bit of a wimpy harem protagonist who constantly overreacts to seeing the slightest bit of skin. However, once you get past the first two episodes, it becomes easier to root for him, and the show becomes much more enjoyable to watch. Chain Solider is pretty good. It hits that sweet spot of not taking itself seriously enough to get away with all of its nonsense while telling an average action story. It won't be for everyone, but if you like good action and kinky Ecchi trash, then you'll get a kick out of this. 7/10 Good.

Chained Soldier is a show with both plot, and PLOT. In a world where men are at the bottom of society, Yuuki finds himself in Mato which is basically this world's version of hell where all the monsters live. Yuuki ends up being saved by the leader of the anti-demon corps, a group that kills the monsters and saves people who end up lost in Mato. However after things look dire, the leader uses her ability to turn Yuuki into a slave, which basically turn him into a giant mech. The price for her ability is that she has to reward Yuuki every time he fights, and the rewards are whatever goes into Yuuki's head. Which sounds perfect for some crazy ecchi shenanigans. However, despite the occasionally nudity, Chained Soldier is surprisingly pretty tame. It never gets to the point where you're questioning why you're watching this in my opinion. However, the action in this show is actually pretty well animated, and thankfully the never do anything to the child character, which worried me since, you know, Japan. This show lived up to my expectations as a good show. Nothing too crazy, but nothing terrible either. Just a nice shut your brain off and relax show. Although I am a bit disappointed that the actual ecchi part of the show was lacking.

I think the most refreshing thing about this series is that its lead is not some loser schmuck getting wish fulfillment. The premise definitely feeds into the kind of femdom vibe of the series overall with the protagonist being skilled at housework and boys generally being expected to support their wives who might fight against the demons. Another highlight is how the more serious parts of the story seem to be handled with some care. I found myself genuinely interested at the internal politics of the defense forces, and some of the secrets beneath the surface. At the end, I wanted to see how things turn out for the characters and whether or not they can successfully handle the challenges they were dealt at the finale. It's not a masterpiece by any means, but it's charming how they transformations seem to be tailor-made to fit a kid's show that sells toys rather than a horny action series. I had fun and the pervy stuff is well done, with the women always taking the lead and sometimes calling the protagonist disgusting in a way that feels great to watch. So we have a wholesome boywife in a harem of women, some of whom like to get pushy and possessive over him. It's a fun, horny time! This definitely isn't for everyone, and some of the ways that the women are sexualized cut against the overall femdommy themes that we start out with, but taken together, it's enjoyable for perverts who are into that sort of thing. If the young men out there take one thing away from this series, I hope you learn to cook and clean. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Well, this was quite the ride if i do say so myself. The girls who straddled this anime's MC would say the same . Jokes aside, this anime was actually surprisingly good. And what i mean by that is the plot. Usually these sorta fanservice anime have a paper-thin plot. This one however has an actually intresting plot. The animation is allright, except for the CGI(obviously). And the fanservice is rather weak as well. The way powers work and all is also very nice, with all of them having drawbacks. With an exception here and there though. So yeah, if you came around excited mostly for the fanservice... It's pretty scarce but it's decent when it does happen, so in that regard you might get dissapointed. But instead you'll be welcomed by a solid world foundation. A thing that i doubt anyone who watched it at first expected. A nice watch. Over and out.

Now listen, As a manga reader I understand why the anime to some was a disappointment. But when you look at it as an adaptation with the goal to get the series more popular, I think it did just fine. Now when it comes to CGI, and cutting out some scenes I agree that was one of the worst parts about the adaptation, but at the same time not too much was cut out to where I would call the anime unwatchable, nor was the animation so bad that I would give this anime a low rating in the first place.Overall the story was still just as good as I remembered it being from the manga, the fanservice scenes were still done justice, yuki as a main character is still just as heroic and cute while being badass just as he was like in the manga, and overall I think this adaptation gets a lot of flack when it just isn't deserved. Again I get it, CGI in anime when it isn't done well looks like shit but I feel as if the CGI in this show while not being the best, wasn't just plain unwatchable it was just mid tbh. Overall if your new to the series I recommend watching the anime and then switching to the manga if you don't trust studio passion since they will be handling season 2. Or just straight up read the manga if that's what you want to do.Overall I'd give this anime a 7/10

The backstory is generic but OK, the animation are good for a small company but the real thing here is the ecchi scenes, really amazing to the public who like of it. Pay attention, its not a amazing anime with huge storytelling, the main point here is the ecchi scenes, the public want to see the battles that are good for watch the rewards after it. The story can be better desenvolved and has space to grow properly, but its a one main person with a huge harem without much personality than the expected for the main public. The peoples who deslike it just dont are the target public. Of course the anime can be much better with proper storytelling, but this kind of ecchi anime is rare to the modern industry who must be brave to make comercial animes like this. Its a decent 7.5/10 anime but i will rate more because of the audacity of the studio haha.

It was funny, and a somewhat unique take on an alternate future. While being unabashedly sexualized, i never found it off-putting and found that it didn't detract from an "ecchi with a plot" anime from being better than most. In fact, this is easily in the top 5 ecchi anime of the last 15 years in regards to a plot that functions. 9/10 for me. Mato Seihei no Slave is much more than just eye candy. The plot is surprisingly deep, with a compelling mystery at its core. The world-building is fantastic, creating a fascinating scenario where humanity relies on women empowered by magical peaches to fight off monstrous invaders. In the crowded landscape of ecchi anime, Mato Seihei no Slave stands out with a plot that actually functions. It's not just about the next big fight or titillating scene; there's a genuine sense of progression, keeping you invested in the characters and their struggles.

Story & Characters: Chained Soldier introduces us to a world where, in Japan, random gateways to another dimension open up, which are known as Mato. These dimensions contain an entirely different world where monsters known as Shuuki brainlessly kill everything in sight. They're actually quite aggressive. Yuuki Wakura, an every day high school, gets warped to one of these and are saved by the 7th Division Anti-Demon Corps. They are headed up by Kyouka Uzen, who has the power to enslave a Shuuki to do her bidding - which usually results in them fighting for her. Out of desperation, she uses it on Yuuki and it changes him into a Shuuki-like being, but he has full control over the immense strength that this newfound power gives him. With dreams of becoming a hero, he decides to join the Anti-Demon Corps, which is where our story takes us. Yuuki isn't a great main character. He's your typical harem main character who is pretty unremarkable on his own. Unfortunately, it gets worse when we learn that Kyouka's ability to change Yuuki into a Shuuki has a fan-service related drawback, and it's about as silly as you can probably imagine. Kyouka's an okay character - she has an ambition to run the entire Anti-Demon Corps. because of her past and trained immensely hard to become a master with her sword. She doesn't develop all that much as the series goes on, though her interactions with Yuuki take some needed steps forward. Himari, Shushu and Nei make up the rest of the 7th Divison, and have some better moments, though most of those are reserved for about halfway through when they introduce the 6th Division unit into the story. Once we had that trio, the interactions are much better. The comradery within the squads are very evident, and even past having the same goal, they work really well together once it's time to suit up. Shikoku is the big baddy here and we don't really learn much about her, outside of the fact that she's calling the shots. Many of her underlings pale in comparison to her strength, but her important screen time likely comes after the conclusion of the current storyline. Some of the other villains they use here have some pretty tragic backstories, which I appreciated. You can tell there is at least some attempt to tell a decent story, even if there are parts that are rather silly. The underlings directly under Shikoku are pretty mediocre though. They're just stronger Shuuki with different powers. There are far too many points in this series that gets far too silly. Yuuki is essentially recruited to be a cleaner to the house that the 7th Division lives in whenever they are not fighting Shuuki. It's a weird way to keep hin within the Mato world. What's less than ideal is that after the first episode or two, the story stays within that world for the rest of the series. This leads to certain storylines starting to get dry, even if the specific storylines along the way are different. Attempt to kill Shuuki, withdraw, relax, repeat. It unfortunately gets rather old. The story ends on an okay note, but it's really hard to tell how much more story there is here. My biggest worry with the, now announced, sequel is how you'd expand on the story, outside of just... killing the ones who got away. They hint at there being some corruption inside the Anti-Demon Corps. near the end, so that would pique my interest a bit. (Story: 6/10, Characters: 7/10) Art: We have some words with regards to the animation. First of all, be warned that the fan service in this series gets very heavy - there are multiple instances of full nudity on our female cast, many times of which are the result of Yuuki's apparently gross mind. This level of fan service is never 'really' warranted in anime series, much less one about killing demons in another dimension. Some of the other animation was decent otherwise. Fighting scenes are packed pretty heavily with CG, but I strangely didn't completely hate it. It works sometimes, others it doesn't. It's most reserved for the Shuuki animations and it certainly made them pop out. Whether that's a good thing or not may vary by audience. (7/10) Sound: The music here was headed up by Kohto Yamamoto, who is mostly known for his work with Hiroyuki Sawano on series like Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress and Attack on Titan's later seasons. He's got some decent tracks here, but nothing quite as high end as what Sawano usually produces. OP and ED were, but I skipped them most of the time. (7/10) Overall: Chained Soldier is very okay all throughout, even with the over-the-top fan service. The best character moments were on display when both units were working together, but there characters feel almost forgettable if you only get a few episodes in. Some of the backstories were decently told so I'm at least a little interested in where they take them in the sequel. I don't foresee the fan service coming down any time soon, but there's plenty of room to make an entertaining product. (7/10)

A slave that follows its master and in return gets an equal reward of sexual experiences. Chained Soldier follows Yuuki, who is a boy that becomes a part of the demon defense force in hopes of becoming a hero. He joins the team in a rather unusual way, but ends up becoming an important part of the team. The show in itself is fairly basic when it comes to its plot and characters, with not that much interesting to them. It is a harem anime and it is clear by the amount of women and how their characters are designed throughout the show. There is very much an emphasis on the lewd content and the episodes are very much built around action leading to ecchi stuff. The show in itself lives up to the genres it has, but it is not doing it in a new or alternative way. It is very simple in its approach about beating monsters, lewd stuff happens to the main character and it is in some form of fantasy setting. It is also important to note it is not necessarily bad, it is just pretty much what you could expect. The animation is generally okay, though some monsters and fights have some odd animation in it. But they put a lot of detail into the ecchi scenes and provide a censored and uncensored version. Overall is it fine, but nothing brilliant or mind breaking. So if you are really into some Ecchi Action, then i would say watch otherwise would i find something else to watch.

Going into this I definitely wasn’t expecting to get yet another remix of Quintessential Quintuplets. Due to the massive success of that series that formula is fairly popular in romcom series these days, and while I’m not opposed to it in general it can easily make for a restrictive and familiar viewing experience if they don’t make the gimmick interesting enough. Mabotai does better than most, choosing to mix in action elements and crank the ecchi levels up a notch from its contemporaries, but at the end of the day it can’t quite escape that feeling of being a derivative work rather than properly cementing its own identity. About half of the show’s runtime is dedicated to character interaction and this is where the basis of my comparison to those kinds of series comes from. Yuuki begins as a complete outcast in the group and is looked down upon as their caretaker, then the show follows a systematic approach where each girl gets their own little mini arc which ends with them developing a crush on him. It’s all very standard and overall serviceable, although it leads into the most drastic missed opportunity in the show. By developing the relationships in such a rushed manner it completely sidelines any form of real character development and worldbuilding and downgrades the girls into tropes. Shushu is the mischievous and assertive type, Himari settles into a friend type, and Kyouka is a tsundere. While the methods they chose to develop their relationships with Yuuki are fine, mostly in the form of combat scenarios or training arcs, it ends up leaving a lot on the table in terms of characterization and doesn’t do much to make the viewer care about them. This is most egregious with Kyouka who despite being the main heroine barely has any sort of backstory given to her. You’re very briefly told that her entire village was slaughtered by one unique monster and her objective is to become the supreme commander of the defense force… and that’s all you get. Strangely enough, it feels like she ends up spending the least amount of time with Yuuki, only really making use of him in combat and disappearing once his reward is given. Of all the characters she’s the one you’d expect to spend the most amount of time with Yuuki but she barely feels like she has any presence in the show at all. It feels like she was supposed to have more of an arc throughout this season as well, given that she becomes increasingly jealous of Yuuki’s popularity with the other girls with every episode despite showing no real interest in him. It’s such a strange decision and it ends up making everything else suffer as a result. The element which suffers most ends up being the plot. While it’s not like there’s a lot of plot to begin with, this season consists of introductions, a mini tournament arc, and then the climax where the actual plot is infodumped in the final episodes, the lack of general set up makes it feel more rushed than it needed to. While the show is more than willing to keep things standard it surprisingly doesn’t use Yuuki, as an outsider, as a means to explain the world of Mato, the peaches, as well as the organizations to him. While this could be chalked up to it being common sense in this world, it makes some of the reveals later on lack proper impact because the viewer doesn’t have the proper kind of context built up throughout the show. It’s not like the plot ends up being terrible as a result, but it tries to get the viewer interested far too late in the runtime and it’s efforts aren’t nearly enough to stick the landing. Unfortunately I have to say the same about the other half of this show, the action elements end up falling into a similar category as the characters. When it comes to the humanoid characters the show ends up looking fairly decent most of the time. It’s nothing that’s going to blow you away but it’s definitely not bad, Kyouka in particular looks pretty good with her fancy sword techniques and she earns her spot as the commander of her unit. Unfortunately there are only so many humanoid characters and this level of quality does not extend to the monsters. This is especially an issue when it comes to Yuuki, given that his entire ability is turning into a monster. It’s far from the worst CGI I’ve ever seen but it’s also far from the best and whenever he has to enter an extended battle it always ends up looking for the worse. Sadly this also ends up extending to the final episode, which features a kind of kaiju battle which looks very much like it belongs in a cheap video game. Yuuki’s movements generally aren’t too restrictive or slow, but it doesn’t look great for the most part and I think it’s for the best he doesn’t end up being the focus of combat all that much in this season. I didn’t mind watching Mabotai, and for the most part I enjoyed it, but I just wish that it was willing to take the opportunities it set up for itself. There’s such a significant amount of small improvements which could’ve been made across the runtime, and when you sum them all up you begin to realize there’s a fairly significant amount of quality left on the table. It feels like it had a hard time deciding how to split the action, plot, and characters up, failing to realize that these elements have a symbiotic relationship. Fleshing out the characters adds more weight to the plot which in turn adds more weight to the action, but they treat these elements as if they’re independent of one another. The characters get their moments, then the action gets its moments, and then the plot gets its moment, and because it has to constantly shift gears it runs inefficiently. For a show which ultimately plays it by the book it somehow failed to realize that sometimes it’s best to stay in standard.
