I'll keep this one short and sweet. In the turbid pool of formulaic soulless garbage that we call the isekai genre, Isekai Shikkaku stands out as an above average, entertaining, well made isekai that has its own interesting gimmick. The protagonist, Sensei, is a powerless, grumpy, suicidal nihilist who doesn't give a single fuck most of the time and never takes part in fighting directly, this single detail on its own sets it apart from most other isekais. Despite being powerless, he does command respect and is viewed as a threat solely due to his bizarre outlook on life, concerningly low self preservation instincts, and maturity shown in the most dire of situations. The show explores some pretty heavy themes, but it doesn't take itself seriously, which for better or for worse, just results in the show having its own brand of 'comedy'. The side characters are given some development, but stay one dimensional for the most part, the standard shit you have seen everywhere else. It's just a pretty solid isekai that felt like a breathe of fresh air. It deviates from the norm in a really interesting way, and I enjoyed it. TLDR: Isekai Shikkaku is a show carried by a unique and refreshing MC, but commits the same sins many other subpar isekais do. Don't expect too much from it and I'm sure you will enjoy it for what its worth.

Why do they keep basing anime characters on Osamu Dazai? Is this a psyop to make me want to pick up No Longer Human? Anyway, this anime isn’t what I expected. I was hoping for a comedy isekai that would subvert expectations, but alas, that’s not exactly what we got. What does this isekai do differently? - Have a protagonist that comedically wishes to unalive himself What does it not do differently? - Everything else You kind of already know where it’s going to go from the start, which is why this was perfect to watch in the background, even if you’re watching with subtitles. Its predictiveness offers a certain comfort, an opportunity to relax and go on browsing whatever online store you want to purchase from today or idly respond to work emails. It’s generally quite enjoyable if you want something that wouldn’t require your undivided attention, which is sometimes what one needs in a show. It however lacks any real depth and doesn’t really stand out in its narrative, characters or ideas. As I suppose is to be expected of an isekai, the ladies have giant breasts and most are at least half-naked, there's a catgirl in it too, and as is mandatory for all "anime" anime, women are positively obsessed with the main character even if he's realistically unbearable to be around. Everyone also has a somewhat cliché tragic backstory. I did, however, finish it and was even sort of sad that it ended so quickly. There have been many titles so riddled with overused tropes or terrible writing that I had to drop them early, and this was not one of them. A guilty pleasure one might say. Comfortingly predictable – that's the best way to describe it. If you want something easy to watch, I'd say go for it, but don't expect much.

Isekai Shikkaku has a very bold plot with an anti-hero to top it off. First of all, I would like to tell you that this was inspired in the story "Ningen Shikkaku" by Dazai Osamu - this author committed a double suicide after writting this story. If you don't know the reference, then the anime seems very weird in the beginning... But if you know, then it will seem extra awesome! You can watch Ningen Shikkaku animated on the anime "Aoi Bungaku". Now, our main character "Sensei" is a classic character from japanese literature, he's the post-war depressive bohemian author that is thrown into an isekai and given the mission to save the world! BUT it seems he's lacking any skill besides his poison immunity and the fact that he himself is poisonous (but only if someone tries to take a piece of him). He has no intent of being a hero, saving the world, or even staying alive. And yet, we have character development! The plot twist is that he actually has a skill that fits him perfectly and gives objetive to him and to the plot of this anime, making it awesome. Each episode we meet a new character, a plot gets solved, and the pacing is really fine! This anime had such a bold main character that it could easily end up as a bad anime, but the author was really good at guiding the story properly! It's not extraordinary, but in general it's a good anime. Plot: 8/10 - It's original and well developed. Characters: 10/10 - Lots of characters that have their stories told properly. Animation: 6/10 - Not a strong point for this anime, but the art style makes up for it! Overall: 8/10 - a good watch!

I went in expecting another copy-paste isekai, but this turned out to be one of the most unique shows I’ve seen in a while. Instead of the usual power fantasy, it focuses on a main character who feels completely out of place in a fantasy world. His gloomy attitude, mixed with the optimism of the people around him, creates some of the funniest and most memorable moments of the season. What makes it a 10/10 for me is the balance. It’s hilarious, a little dark, and sometimes unexpectedly meaningful. It’s not trying to be flashy or epic — it’s just different, and that’s exactly why it stands out. If you’re tired of generic isekai, this is the kind of show that will stick with you.

First of all it is different and it is good, so basically it satisfies 2 most important aspects for any work of art. It might not be for everyone, but the basic theme can be understood from short summary/intro to this anime. If you are bored MC's that are more or less identical or isekai story lines that does not bring anything new to the table - this might interested you. Though this might be a bit niche due to MC's character, but you should be able to tell from description or first episode if it is for you or not. One more thing - dominant genre is comedy.

A non-thorough review on No Longer Allowed I gave this anime a chance because I didn't have much to watch this season (Fall 2024 is stacked though), but I would say I enjoyed it. The writing was not particularly elaborate or impressive, but Sensei, the MC, has a comically depressed and suicidal nature which I find to be a nice breath of fresh air. As an author (more like a journalist), he does occasionally find motivation to study people who seem interesting, or to call people out for bullsh*t. To be very blunt, there is not much to praise the anime for, and I'm sure many people might find Sensei more annoying than comedic. I did like the opening and ending songs, and I personally like Sensei's design a lot too. If you just want to take a break from other anime and you seem interested in the main character, it wouldn't hurt to watch this 12-episoder. The writing is a bit awkward sometimes, and the characters often feel one dimensional. A few of the episodes might stand out as decent, but for the most part the show is mediocre. 8.2/10, I would watch a second season but I won't be surprised if it doesn't happen

Story & Concept The anime offers a brilliant "parody" of the isekai genre. Instead of a hero seeking to build a harem or defeat a Demon King, we are introduced to a protagonist searching for the "perfect coffin." The idea of critiquing heroes who cross over to other worlds and turn into tyrants is a refreshing and unique departure from the usual tropes. Characters "Sensei" is the undisputed star of the show. His absolute coldness in the face of danger and his dark philosophy make the comedic moments gold. The supporting characters (like Annette and Tama) balance out the protagonist's eccentricities and add vitality to the events. The character development of those Sensei meets—and how he uses "words" as a weapon rather than swords—is highly entertaining.

My Power Is My Want To Die No Longer Allowed in Another World is a show about how, suicide guys are just so attractive, because women just can't stop wanting to help them. Compare to many isekai stories this one has a fun premise, a protagonist wants to die, and somehow that saved the day every time, and the enemies are lots of isekai protagonist assholes, who had to be put in the place by this suicidal man. the comedic tone is fun, because the main character feels smooth, and the other people reaction to his suicidal tendencies are fun throughout, and the way he defeat his enemies are fun and unique. The main characters work so good, at looking through other people's b***, and see the world for what It's is ,and it is morbidly funny, that he is based on a real dead Japanese author. It has a unique angle and it feels fun to watch, but it is one of those empty calories, that you watch and forget about, but that is all right once in a while.

An enjoyable show that makes fun of itself and Isekai tropes. Quite the fun show with decent animation to boot. While the animation isn't overly detailed, it is consistently clean and well produced. The action scenes are actually fairly decent as well. They aren't mind blowing, but very competent and enjoyable. The characters don't have a ton of depth, but they are pretty enjoyable to watch. Very tropey, but the show is self aware enough that it's not to it's detriment. The world itself is lively and has a decent amount of thought put into it and overall is well thought out and somewhat clever. It's not an overly deep story, but it does create enough structure to allow the show to remain enjoyable and maintain a direction. The pacing it pretty good. I wasn't engrossed in it, but was not by any means bored either. Voice acting was fine. There is one grating character, but otherwise it was decent. Nothing amazing, but decent. While the soundtrack was good, it lacked a theme. A soundtrack with a theme ties an entire show together through music, this was pleasan, but lacked this. The op and ed were quite nice and made me consider not skipping them simple because the were very good. Overall, it's a fun show. Not a ton of substance or anything jaw dropping, but very decent and an entertaining watch that I would definitely come back to for a season 2. 6.80/10 Dubbed

I saw that anime on 11-12/03/25; honestly, it is one of the strangest Isekai that I have ever known. The MC, constantly searching for suicide, finds himself in the battle between demons and evil forces, without having any overpowered magic or legendary weapon. The whole journey is exciting to witness him battle against these threats with sheer will and strategy. In this anime, you will find many small/adventure stories that the MC with his friends will solve and build the story line for Season 1; at the end of the season, it gives a hook for Season 2 but not in a very normal way - you know, apt for such a strange, yet intriguing story. I would give a 7 out of 10 to it - strange, yet, just the thing for a one-time watch by really dark and bizarre Isekai lovers.

It's like Mushishi but more comedy and an easier to understand, i mean a lot easier. This anime is unique in its own way of solving the problems which I personally really like. The story is kinda predictable in a few way but not that many. I found it really amusing to watch also some tears spilled, so it's kinda funny but emotional. The main character was really interesting even though his development is a bit hard to see, well to put in a way I would say that it needs you somewhat focus on the character to see the dev of the character. The other casts also made good progress that is kinda moving in its own way. Fighting scene is good enough, and the villians were kinda normal as they aren't that well-invested in writing. The anime only talk about 2 of the biggest villians when there are 7 of them so I can't really judge that. However, the backstory was fine, not bad but not too good. I believe that if u enjoy watching something comedy but also meaningful and not simiar to others' isekai then it a go-to for the new era of anime when there are too many "tourists". P/s: the girls are quite buffed in their physics so it's nice to watch but that is not what is focused on the anime. Happy seeing the anime.

An isekai where the one transported is our favourite famous author for his unaliveness tries Dazai Osamu! If you don't know who that is, you should read his wikipedia page, it is quite a read. This one was quite a ride, to basic lows, to pretty okayish highs. Has a more unique take on the isekai genre, so it isn't the typical isekai slop. At least not 100%, more like 50% I guess... Why do I say this? Well, without spoiling, the idea behind this anime is pretty good: take a famous author that tried to unalive himself quite a few times and try to do a story in which you teach people the beauty of life and that it is worth to live it, through all kinds of small stories. Or at least, that's how it seemed to me for a bit, but then it wasn't all like that. What it is is a comedy coupled with serious moments. Unfortunately, it seems to me like they have rushed quite a bit... some stories were made an 1 episode, start it and wrap it up by the end of the episode, were a bit too fast to actually get involved in them, and then you have the way they present things... which was not always the best, as in too basic and typical to the point of already guessing majority of what will happen. There are a few arcs that are longer, of course, but they're not all... that great... But, from my perspective, at first it starts great, gets a bit dull and then goes pretty good stuff towards the end, so it does leave you wanting to watch more of their adventures. Sometimes it does leave you with quite a few questions that were never answered though, but they're not that important to the overall plot I guess. If you aren't the type to get triggered by unalive jokes, then you can easily watch it and enjoy. The cast is pretty nice, I like their chemistry. They made it so that every time the MC comes on and says something, it's saying some sort of a life advice... which kinda becomes a bit cringy at times... Also expect quite a few perfect moments and such, but I would say 70% of the anime is comedy, the rest is the serious part. So yea, the main group is something unique to me and how everything goes, so that's a big plus to me, especially in the isekai genre. Nobody is OP, quite a few different characters and personalities that mash up pretty nicely for the stories, but the world does not seem so big... it feels to me a bit... small. Not much worldbuilding to see or get explained. Story: 8 -- The story has ups and downs, but overall is acceptable. At the end it is pretty good, at least compared to the rest of the anime. Quite a few stories you can instantly know where it will go though... Art: 8 -- The art is pretty nice as well. Don't have any complains here. Music: 8 -- The OP is pretty good here, and the ED too. Characters: 8 -- Personally I am okay with the MC and his niche personality, and the group that is around him and how they interact. Very lively bunch. Enjoyment: 8 -- I enjoyed it, even though it had some dull moments for me. Overall: 8 Right now it has 7.29 from 72.524 votes Ranked #2866 Popularity #1361 Members 187,134. I recommend it to people that are okay with the unalive part of the story and don't get triggered by it, want to see a comedy that is trying to mix itself with serious moments and some life advice, a more unique type of isekai that is not the OP MC that gets all the girls and everyone is all over him and that want to see some feel good moments/stories. It is a happy plot overall!

Morbid MC, interesting side stories, satirical take on a stale genre. I was pleasantly surprised by this Anime. Animation is good where it needs to be, this is not a battle anime - its strength is writing, character and the charisma of the cast, especially the MC. The strength of the episodes comes from a focus on human psyche and relatable stories. I wonder what greats this anime could've reached if it was handled with the same budget and direction as Frieren, but what we got is great enough so I wont complain. Although animation can sometimes be choppy, character design is overall very good. The world itself is generic fantasy but that's also part of the joke of the tired Isekai that this show parodies.

If you’re looking for an isekai anime with a fresh twist, “No Longer Allowed in Another World” may just surprise you. This show revolves around a real-life author who gets transported to another world and, quite uniquely, travels by coffin. Instead of following the typical isekai formula where the protagonist builds a new life in a fantastical world, the core idea here is about banishing other characters from Earth back to their original world. It’s a refreshing take in a genre that can often feel repetitive. One of the most notable aspects of this anime is its concept of sending characters back to Earth. Most isekai shows involve characters getting stuck or thriving in their new world, but this idea flips that convention, which I haven’t seen much in anime (though it does appear in some manga). This unique angle brings a new dynamic to the genre, adding complexity to the typical power fantasy trope. While I haven’t come across another anime that handles this exact premise, it’s possible that some titles slipped under the radar. However, even if there are similar stories out there, “No Longer Allowed in Another World” still manages to feel fresh and brings some innovation to the overcrowded isekai genre. If you’ve been looking for an isekai with a more original storyline that doesn’t feel too formulaic, this anime might be worth checking out. It offers a decent plot twist on the familiar isekai formula, though how well it holds up will depend on how the story develops. 8/10 would recommend and can’t wait for season 2.

"We should definitely have more Isekai series." Says the author, "Yeah! it will be selling good! Its common nowadays right?" Says perhaps what we could imagine, their assistant. "But Isekai is trapped in the generic genres!" "hmmm..." Both sighed. There, on the table, lays what perhaps Dazai Osamu "No Longer Human" perfectly seated on the table, sitting there until the end of times. The author, which, feels like he found a new hope looked at their assistant. The assistant too, is looking with the same excitement. "Did you think, what I think it is?" "Yeah!" "We should make Dazai Osamu a Main Character!" "We should make the Main Character very kind!" "A-" Both stammered. And thus born, this slapstick comedy made somehow tackle with the kind wisdom of our beloved novel author, Dazai Osamu. Thought, they really depict him as suicidal that fall short into.. somehow really ridiculous way. Yet, I dont really feel like it was supposed to be that kind of comedy anyway. Thought after finishing this anime, I totally think that this anime fails to adapt between how Dazai Osamu should had. I once read a book about him of course, in which you all know what insipired this anime is : "No Longer Human" or you may prefer "Ningen Shikkaku" or translated directly as "Failed Human." The thing is, this anime is trying too hard to be able to basically fixate everything about this specific novel. I was hoping that Dazai would be a complex character in this cynical world of Isekai, and there is, just another human that is so depressed and wanted to suicide. Thought, "Sensei" as we call him in this world, seems really lack of any development, he was also one of a kind character that I would love to be implemented. Sadly they didnt got it 100% correct, but its glad that Dazai Osamu is getting another recognition he deserved Oh well, what I wished it turned out to be good in comedy that revolves around him trying to kill himself, and ties up with many things in the world that does NOT allow him to. In which, i sometimes hope it adapts the writing of Dazai Osamu had, but surely this one is a refreshing one, thought not entirely original but still is good for the eyes to see, and the ears to hear. How kind of them also adding our notorious and most important person in the anime "The Evil Truck-kun" as a portal for our beloved Isekai world. In which, usually it grows tiring to see, this show adds it as just short and cool cameo, and even break the fourth wall for it. In which, really cool to add! That was also an interesting use of Truck-kun i've ever seen besides..well.. besides Kazuma having ran over by a tractor instead (To say running over was highly exaggerating, but we wont dwelve on that). They also have the regular big tiddies anime girl! The classic elf, and of course you couldnt forget our nekomata. Their behavior is predictable. As the first heroine fell in love with our MC, while the MC does our unrequited love yada-yada-yada. The classic hero who bringforth of justice, the one who is too scared of everything but someone opens his eyes, you know the basic kind of one. In which, in my words. Lame as hell. Was it terrible on execution? Nope, will it fall short? Yes as i expected from the usual Isekai things. It has all of the Isekai element to form. EVEN the comedic ones. But... most importantly.. Is it fun? SURE IS This anime is 7 out of 10 Wuthering Heights

*** No Longer Allowed in Another World *** I liked this show from the 1st episode to the last. This is a self aware anime and knowes how audience is used to Isekai tropes, and plays into it. Kind of like a Isekai parody. Closest example I can think of is how One Punch Man is a superhero genre parody. Somehow it still felt fresh. Our main protagonist is just different from the other Isekai protagonist's we are used to in other Isekais. He is of very poor health. He cant even walk much he is so weak , so he is dragged to places in a coffin by his allies. I like that it also ponders the idea of the isekai'ed people who com to the world can also become a nuisance or even threat to the world. And hence villains are not your typical villains. BTW I was surprised in the last episode as out hero meets fairies. Boys will appreciate I recommend it to fans of Isekai anime. I look forward to season two if they make it.

(note - eng is not my first language) Isekai Shikkaku is more like an anti-isekai anime than an actual isekai anime. The protagonist (sensei, who is based on Osamu Dazai), just wants to kill himself and find the afterlife, he has a depressive mood that doesn't adhere to the ISEKAI trope, always taking sleeping pills like candy and drinking poison like water. His cynicism is shown right from the first scene where he appears in the new world, where the first thing he tried to do after the famous "explanation" of how the new world works, was to try to kill himself. It's funny to see how much he doesn't care about this new life, (basically being a plant, because instead of embracing the life of an adventurer, he just wants to look for his lost lover, Sacchan to complete the double suicide) and somehow still knows how to fix and support the other characters. All the other co-protagonists (Annette, Tana and Nir) have episodes focused on their story, their development and what they want for themselves. It's not just focused on one character like most isekais, they treat them as NPCs; and even though they seem like empty and unnecessary arcs, in fact, they end up showing how the rules are applied, the struggle of each character around a world that became full of people who came from the other world (ours) and the chaos that this caused in their lives. But above all, this is a comedy isekai that doesn't take itself seriously, it's a twelve-episode anime that you can watch in one night without worrying. :)

The interesting part of the show is the snapshots of different isekais. They go through many "what-ifs" quickly. This makes the bad-mid ones more tolerable, and, almost anthologically, makes the best of interesting concepts that don't necessarily need to be drawn out over their own forgettable 12 ep season. Not all of the characters are up to snuff, but the MC goes kind of hard. The bizarre is present from time to time, and sometimes the comedy hits. The end of the season gives a snapshot of what to expect when it returns. The forecast is calling for a highly episodical and slightly more palatable s2.

**Isekai Shikkaku (No longer allowed in another world) ** An interesting if controversial premise that like many isekai of this style fails to fully capitalize upon it. However, It happens to be a concept that personally appeals to me quite a bit and it doesn’t fall flat on its face like so many of its compatriots. It manages to at certain points tell a somewhat poignant story that it blends with dark comedy even if other times one portion overpowers the other leading to disaster. For this reason I am rating Isekai Shikkaku as a 7/10 on the anime scale. The comedy in this anime generally comes in a few forms, someone threatens sensei, sensei carries out an unexpected action, or one of the female characters is in love with him. I think it’s somewhat impossible to classify comedy as good or bad so I will just say my opinion on this and not factor it into my rating. I found the threat bits to generally get a light chuckle from me if they were integrated into the scene well, the unexpected actions ranged from an eyeroll to an actual laugh (rare for me!). The women in love with him bits were, as I think anyone who knows me would expect, completely uninteresting to me and I found them very annoying. Following from the comedy's use of women the show has a baffling mix of some of the best (low bar) handling of women's issues in an anime to aspects I find annoying and off putting. The first thing you would notice upon watching the show is the truly terrible female character designs. There’s no defense for this, I don’t know why they did it, it undercuts the show’s messaging a lot and is a real shame considering that I think many of the other designs are pretty okay-good. On the positive end the show frequently touches upon women's issues from ostracization, marriage inequality, and the negative impact of traditional female roles. Reading some of Dazais’ work it’s clear this is drawn from his interest in the lives of women which he writes about frequently, Schoolgirl and the setting sun touching upon similar topics as seen in the show. Regardless it’s good, anime should do this more! To theorize a bit more on the designs it’s very possible they are derivative of the worst aspects of the show. It’s clinging to isekai tropes, the more it tries to commentate on these directly or interact with them the worse it gets for it. The show is at it’s absolute best with simple character interactions and observations of humanity in the style of Dazai’s bibliography and it’s lowest when discussing chosen ones and magic swords. This habit is probably the source of the over saccharin and strange plot points which occasionally pop up throughout the anime. One of the worst of these is the rapping character who appears about midway through and isn’t utilization besides to commentate on isekai powers. If you’ve made it this far I can now address the elephant in the room, the pretty big controversy over Isekai Shikkaku being made in the first place. The open question is it disrespectful to the memory of Osamu Dazai who himself died of suicide to create a character that is similar to him and draws from his literary works in this way. Reading through his works as I worked my way through the show I’m not so sure that the main character of Isekai Shikkaku “sensei” is intended to be Osamu Dazai himself. Dazai would frequently include gloomy suicidal or otherwise depressed writers through his works which while similar to him were in my opinion not supposed to be him, writers write what they know. If you accept this to be the case I think a possible intention of the writer may have just been to create a character in his style in which case I think that’s basically fine. The consumption of sedatives in harmful amounts being tied to a desire to not feel fully healthy is very similar to the activity of Naoji from setting sun for example. Edit: A friend has pointed out that date at the start of the manga aligns with Dazai's suicide. This is pretty unfortunate and I still stand by what I said here about how the character is treated within the work. Maybe I'll return and write a bit more about what I think his personal thoughts on that would've been but that seems like a very fraught topic. Much of the discussion over his feelings about himself assume short story characters are self inserts which I strongly disagree with.
