This review is biased and is more for personal use. Although the first half of the season seems to drag on, the story begins to develop in the second half and barrels into an incredible season finale. The first half is goofier, leaning more into the Monster-of-the-Week side. One by one, the characters are introduced as silly but good-hearted middle schoolers who begin to develop and close friendship with one another. In the second half we see more depth, more sadness, and the Senshi team's devotion to each other. We also begin to see deeper character development and the great sound design comes into play. The season finale is stunning and moving. My favorite episodes: Ep 6, 11, 13, 23, 24, 27, 28, 31, 32, 34, 35, 36, 40, 41, 44, 45, 46

I never watched more than 2 or 3 episodes of Sailor Moon when I was young, yet I felt a strange compulsion to watch the show in my adult years. My childhood magical girl show of choice was Tokyo Mew Mew, which I quickly realized was very heavily inspired by Sailor Moon, to the point where it might even be called a ripoff. Sailor Moon did it better. Sailor Moon is the OG of magical girl anime and it shows. While the show’s age is apparent and the animation and sound aren’t up to snuff anymore, I found the art style and character designs to be incredibly charming. The colour scheme and design of the backgrounds gives the anime a unique vibe which makes it immediately recognizable from scenery alone. Even though I did not experience the show in my childhood, it has such a strong nostalgic feel to it that made me immediately attached to the characters. While I often see complaints about Usagi’s personality, I found her to be primarily endearing and relatable. She also contributed to the surprisingly humorous nature of the show. I actually laughed out loud at points, which doesn’t happen to me very often. The other characters are developed to varying degrees. Rei and Ami are introduced early on and have the most fleshed out personalities of the other sailor scouts, both of them provide nice foils to Usagi and each other. Makoto and Minako come later, and this leaves there development with a little to be desired. Makoto has a very likable personality, but she doesn’t fall as solidly into an archetype as Usagi, Ami or Rei. We have a bit less of a grasp on her character and I look forward to seeing more of her in the next seasons. Minako especially got the short end of the stick, I frankly have a hard time thinking of what her personality traits even are. She definitely feels the blandest of the sailor scouts. Another important character is Tuxedo Mask/Mamoru. As far as love interests go he is very charming as Mamoru, while a little one-note as Tuxedo Mask. This is intentional however, and I think the romance between him and Usagi developed nicely and fairly naturally. It’s nice to see a show where a romance plot actually comes to fruition. The side characters are all fun as well, with a special mention to Naru and her arc involving Nephrite. It was refreshing to see and one of my favourite parts of this season. The story is formulaic, with a monster of the week format for a good part of the runtime. Still, it gets the job done and in my opinion, none of the episodes felt too much like wasted filler. It was interesting to get new insights into characters, or to watch sideplots develop, I especially liked Ami and Rei’s budding romance sideplots. The weakest point of the show is certainly the fight scenes, which are always the same and rarely make use of interesting tactics or solutions. Still, that’s probably not what you’re watching this show for, or you probably wouldn’t be able to sit through a season. The conclusion was also not my favourite, but might still work out well depending on how the second season handles things. Overall, this show really resonated with me in a way I didn’t quite expect, and was a very entertaining watch. It’s not something you watch in one big sitting, but at a rate of about an episode a day it really proves its worth. Even if you didn’t grow up with it, give it a shot if you’re interested!

Bishoujou Senshi Sailor Moon is one of those anime series that doesn't steers away from the plot, it may have some of the "classical episodes" like the hot spring episode, the beach episode, but while in any random anime it may be a filler, in Sailor Moon they are made in such a way that have something to do with it. Everything that happens is about the Sailor Soldiers Vs The Dark Kingdom. The art is pretty classical. For an anime released in 1992 it's actually very well made. The drawings look pretty colorful and the transformations and powers are neatly animated. It has a very good soundtrack that fits every moment. The soundtrack makes you catch the feelings that are actually going on in the scene. And the sound effects fit very well the "mahou shojo" feeling. Every character is unique. They all have their personality, very different from each other. However compared to Usagi, the rest of the Sailor Soldiers adapted incredibly fast to the life as one. You can get hooked easily if a major event is going on. Every end of episode makes you want to keep going. Overall, Sailor Moon is an anime series worth watching. It's one of those anime series that will either give you goosebumps or make your tears flow.

Okay, so I have of course seen all of Sailor Moon, but I am really just going to be sharing the first season in this review. Summary Plot: Sometime in the endless past, well... 1000 years according to the Canadian dub, there was this Kingdom on the Moon called Silver Millennium. It was ruled by Neo Queen Serenity, she ruled this Moon Kingdom by the power given to her by the Goddess, Selene. Her daughter shared the same name as her, and was the Princess of Silver Millennium, Serenity, who, in the present time reincarnated as the crybaby, Usagi Tsukino. Usagi is a 14 year old girl who goes to Juban Middle school, which I believe is a Tokyo district of Japan or something along those lines! Usagi, as mentioned above, is a bit of a crybaby. Undisciplined AF! Hardly ever pays attention in class or does well on her tests, because she likes to daydream about romance, anime, and Arcade games. One night, while she was taking a nap on her bed, a mysterious black cat appears, by sneaking in through her bedroom window. This would have been a startle in itself, but this cat starts speaking to Usagi! Which makes Usagi think that she's still asleep, and that this encounter is just a dream she's still in. The cat, who reveals herself by the name Luna, tells Usagi that she is the chosen heroine who is to become a Champion of love and justice, called Sailor Moon, to: 1.) Locate the 'Princess', and to: 2.) Locate the other Sailor Guardians that will work with her as a team in this mission, all the while protecting the planet and Japan from the dark forces of evil, from an alien race of villainous entities, that operate from the shadowy labyrinths, called the Dark Kingdom. Art: Sailor Moon has a personal art style that I am attracted to with those 90's anime, but it is still a bit outdated, so it did not get as high of a rate because of that, but it is still really good for its time! :3 And even though Sailor Moon was remade, I still actually prefer this art style over a lot of the new stuff. Sound: Same as Art in that it got the same rate. I actually enjoy some of the music for the Canadian Dub version of Sailor Moon over some of the original Japanese music that's in it. This would include the original theme that plays whenever Usagi throws her Moon Tiara. Characters: I personally love the character cast in Sailor Moon. They all add a unique quality in their personalities to the series. Usagi with her clumsiness, high spirited, and positive nature. Ami with her reasoning skills, sensibility, logical and organized way of thinking, while having shyness in her personality. Rei for her psychic senses and intuition, and her fiery forwardness. Makoto for her strong, not easy to push over, dominance. Minako for her ... well, she's actually just a lot like Usagi in a sense! XD ... and so on and so forth! Enjoyment: This series got the highest rate for Enjoyment for me personally because of the extent of creativity this anime has in its story and characters. And because there really isn't too many series out there that I have put this much time into as I did with Sailor Moon! Overall: I gave Sailor Moon an overall rate of 10 because of everything I said in the Enjoyment section, but also because this anime goes back with me, just like it does with so many others!~

Sailor Moon was my very first anime, that I actually recognized as an anime! I was in the middle school, and still enjoying my pokemon, and what not, when I suddenly stumbled upon an anime, that was made by a woman, for girls - you can imagine, that I was thrilled! So I scooped some of the episodes out of the internet, and watched them in delight... with english dubs - urgh!. The characters were weird, the story all over the place and most of the time really infantile, and the voices obnoxious at best... and don't even get me started about the opening theme, the transformation scenes, and the lesbians turned into a cousins - you know, what I mean! I can so obviously tell, that the english dub was made for the american audiences - they didn't even made dubs for the final season, which had women, transforming into a guys... or was it the other way around! Why, those stupid, ignorant...! Then, I learnd my english - somewhat - and watched the episodes in japanese, and boy, what a difference! The characters were actually very likable, interesting and had real and deep personality, the voices were much better, and nothing was cut out, or changed to make it look like kiddier, more saver, for our fragile little girl-minds! It felt pure, and subtle, and... pleasant, and I just loved it! The story for the first arc was interesting, and all the girls had their own personalities, which made them feel like a real people, and not some stupid, flat caricatures. I was genuienly touched, when Ren and Usagi started to form a some sort of harsh friendship, and I really liked, when Usagi started to adknowledge her responsibility as a senshi... even though it took her the entire season, and four dead friends to achieve! The story is really lighthearted, and you can't call me a liar, if I told you, that the anime isn't plagued with episode after episode of this formulaic storytelling, with every episode introducing to us a whole new villain, and Tuxedo Mask's red rose. Because it's true - it does just that, and it does it good! The formula may sound, and look like of something, that should be boring, and what should always be avoided, when writing a good story, but believe or not, this formula actually works... often times! If you like these girls, you can really see them growing, and evolving as a group, with their own traits, and flaws, giving every one of them their own time to shine, and be in the center of the spotlight - it's not just the main heroine, that takes all the focus! And sure, there are themes about long lost romance, friendship and loyalty to the things that you love, and want to protect - all that mushy girly stuff - but those are actually pretty good too. I want to see the romance bloom! I want Queen Berryl to die, and the happy ending, God dammit! I was literally weeping, when Mamoru died! I was sobbing, when Usagi was left to face Berryl alone! The musical score was just perfect for that one, removing me to tears time and time again. This anime is perfect for those, who wont say no to the girly antics, and spicy girlpower, because these gals sure have that... alot! The story isn't exactly the deebest of the literary pool, and the formulaic structure can be little hard to swallow time to time, but if you like these girls... any of the five, then you'll probably enjoy the ride too. Story: 8 Art: 8 Sound: 9 Characters: 9 Enjoyment: 8 Overall: 8

Sailor Moon was the first anime I have ever watched. The show has been very popular and made a come back with Crystal. I like to stay true and I know that there as been things removed from the 1990 version, but it is still my favorite. The story line has been developed so complexly that is spans over many season. In short is is about a school girl, Serena, who was sent to earth from the moon. Now her and the other sailor scouts must protect the Earth from dark sinister forces. The show gives a classic hero a new twist. Instead of a male hero it is all girls who help one another as a group. The side kick, Tuxedo Mask, in return never shows himself unless sailor moon is in need of assistant. Also, when Tuxedo Mask helps he leaves right after. He does not stay to take credit.

Sailor moon is the original magical girl anime. It has something for everyone. It has characters that everyone can relate to in terms of personality. For example, if your studious and smart then your Ami and if your lazy and a crybaby your Usagi. Even fans who prefer shounen would like this series because it is full of action scenes. Fans of romance will like it because of Mamoru and Usagi's relationship. For very little kids the dub is better as it contains less complex plots and the romance between Haruka and Micchiru is censored. The opening and ending songs are very memorable. I find myself singing them every second of every day! I really enjoyed the series.

Before the nineties, the term "magical girl" anime mostly consisted of plots involving young girls who are given a magical item by some cute fairies that allows them to grow up and become whatever they wish to be and have fun with their new powers. This was pretty much the standard for typical magical girl anime, as girls didn't use their powers to fight evil or save the world until a woman named Naoko Takeuchi gave this a go one day, and wound up sparking the biggest anime revolution that ever exploded in the anime world. Usually in anime, boys would be the ones fighting monsters or saving the world, and girls were still just supporting characters considering the attitudes toward women didn't change much back then, even after World War II. But Sailor Moon rocked the anime world for many fans, and even wound up being a gateway anime for many incoming otaku who watched the show on Toonami or other channels that aired it. Lots of people I know watched Sailor Moon and love it to this day, as it became the anime that revitalized the magical girl genre in its day. Sad to say, I was not one of those people. I was waaaay too young when this came out (Born in 1993). However, I do remember watching a bit of Venus's debut episode and most of the SuperS movie on Toonami once, but that's about it. This year, I decided to watch the entire series and see if it's really as good as everyone believes it to be. Now that I finished it, it's time that I put down my honest review of it. Our main character, Usagi (known as Serena in the English dub, which I only saw one episode of and don't plan on seeing any more), is...not the best person in the world. She's ditzy, woefully clumsy, dumb as a brick, a glutton, greedy, and a hopeless crybaby who freaks out over little things. She is regularly late for school every single day (seriously, doesn't she ever have an alarm clock? Being late every single day? That's just not healthy!), she's always being scolded by the teacher for said tardiness, she always fails her tests, never studies, is always under her family's fire, and wants nothing more to do than eat junk food, go to the arcade, gossip with her friends, and talk about cute guys. Basically, she's the girl nobody really wants to be but is anyway. But one day, on her way to school, she saves a cat from being abused by some rowdy kids. When she gets back, the cat, Luna, turns out to be anything but normal. Luna is a familiar from the moon, and an organization called the Dark Kingdom, currently run by an old hag named Queen Beryl, wants to revive their ruler, Metalia, and take over the world, and Luna thinks Usagi might be one of the sailor soldiers, a group of people who defend the peace of the Earth. Usagi then becomes Sailor Moon, and she's not too keen on the idea of fighting monsters and saving the world when she can't even get up in the morning. But she's not the only sailor soldier. She is soon joined by sweet and smart Ami (Sailor Mercury), beautiful and brave Minako (Sailor Venus), fiery and easily irritated Rei (Sailor Mars), and strong and supportive Makoto (Sailor Jupiter). Together, they must defeat the Dark Kingdom and thwart their evil schemes. For a magical girl anime that supposedly caused an epic Blitzkrieg in it's homeland and overseas, it's animation is really nothing to write home about. It hasn't really aged well. It's colors are a bit messy at times, the eyes get out of place at times, there's so many still frames it's not even funny, and at times things just look a bit too sketchy and kooky. Even when the characters move, they seem to be a little stiff at times (except for the opening, but all openings are like that so who am I to judge?). Plus, I have to admit, I don't like how the characters' legs look. They're a bit too long for my tastes. No person I know has legs that long, even for super model standards. Seriously, what is it with anime and designing all characters with ridiculously long legs? But then again, considering how short their skirts are when they battle, the anatomy here is a bit more considerate than other anime. The music isn't really much to talk about either. It's generic, pretty much no different from other anime music you'd hear in any 90s anime, and I've heard my fair share of soundtracks from anime in the 90s. Sorry, but Homeless Girl Remy has a much better soundtrack than this. But the music in their assigned scenes DO fit their assigned scenes (happy music in happy moments, scary music in scary moments, sad music in sad moments, etc.) and not once do they feel out of place, unlike some shows that play the wrong music in the wrong places (Nurse Angel Ririka SOS, anyone?). It also does a decent job of forming the correct atmosphere for their assigned scenes so I won't fault it for doing that. The opening is nice and serene (and yes the English version is pretty catchy too). However! If you ask me, I prefer the Spanish version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30vuUMTJLiE It totally trumps both the Japanese AND English versions, even if it's just the Japanese version with Spanish lyrics and a different singer who, in my honest opinion, sings the song MUCH better than the original singers. Don't kill me!!! The characters...well, I can see how they'd be revolutionary for their time, but nowadays, they're still a bunch of character archetypes that have been used over and over again. We have the ditzy and dumb idiot who doesn't grow into her role as the leader, the brainiac, the person who always berates the leader for everything they do well-intentioned or not, the brawny strong one, and the beautiful one who's just kind of there. Ugh, I seriously couldn't stand Usagi. I know she has her moments, and she can be awesome when she has her shining moments, but her shining moments are very few and far in between. The rest of the time all she does is whine with that screechy voice of hers and act like a brat and have everyone do everything for her. She's definitely NOT leader material and doesn't improve when the situation calls for it, nor does she display any awareness or responsibility for any of the roles she's placed in. Seriously, I wanted to bash her head in whenever she opened her mouth and said or did something stupid! Her first English dub voice and her Spanish dub voice sound more convincing than her Japanese voice! Heck, if you ask me, I think Rei or Makoto should have been given the leader role and not Usagi, and they're the ones who do most of the attacking while Usagi just runs away whining and crying 90% of the times she's in a battle! However, my complaints aside, Usagi IS a realistic character, and definitely has more than enough flaws to justify what she does, and while she may have a bunch of flaws, she definitely has a good heart and will do anything for her friends and family, even if she approaches situations in a stupid and impulsive manner a lot of the time. You have to admit she's a HECK of a lot better than certain other characters from other shows (Tagiru from Digimon Xros Wars: Hunters, anyone?) Plus, I wish Tuxedo Mask did more than just throw roses, say inspirational (mostly expository) speeches, fling his cape, save Usagi, and run away a lot of the time. He's just a silly exposition fairy who doesn't really do much other than what I just listed, and even in the end, his role is rather silly and cliche. He doesn't grow as a character nor does he gain any new powers. The other characters don't get much development either, but that'll get rectified in later seasons. Out of all the characters, my favorites are Ami, Rei, and Makoto. They actually do way more in the show than Usagi did, and are much more interesting and likable in my honest opinion. Yeah Rei gets mad at Usagi a lot of the time, but wouldn't you do the same if you were paired up with a dim bulb idiot who constantly does stupid things, even in the face of grave danger? I know I would! Finally, the villains are cliche and uninteresting, w…

Overall: 8 Sailor Moon was the first anime I watched as a kid, and then it was what actually made me a fan of animes when I was older. That being said, if you're a seasoned anime viewer, you have to keep in mind that while Sailor Moon seems to have a lot of Shojo cliches, it was what actually created a lot of them. There's the typical "monster of the day," which makes the show tedious at times, but what makes Sailor Moon entertaining are the characters, and the heartfelt way in which the main story is told. If you can make it past the filler episodes, Sailor Moon has a good story underneath. Story: 7 The story first half of the series seems rather typical and fillers definitely drag down the pacing with some being better than others, but the backstory that is eventually revealed is very interesting. For s show that was intended for younger audiences, much of the content is dark and complicated. Art: 8 If you don't like colors and sparkles, then this is not the anime for you. I personally enjoy these aspects of the show. The character design is definitely dated, but still appealing to watch and it doesn't detract from the viewing experience. Sound: 7 The music is diverse and sometimes fits the mood, sometimes doesn't. The voices in japanese are definitely preferable to the dub. I think all the cast did a great job and no voice seemed unfitting. The theme song is also very catchy. Character: 7 The characters are not really original, with the five main girls fitting into typical types that usually show up in this genre, but I still found them fun to watch. Usagi the main heroine, can be irritating if you are trying to take her seriously, but she is the typical klutzy main character that the audience either loves or hates. I did not find her too annoying, even though some of her antics grew a little old by the end. Enjoyment: 9 Despite some weakness in the originality department, Sailor Moon is still an enjoyable show. It is definitely not for everyone, but I think it does well balancing lightheartedness with drama. It does not take itself too seriously, nor does it mindlessly pander to its audience.

There may never be a perfect show, but Sailor Moon classic comes so incredibly close. Never have I ever seen another anime that flawlessly mixes together so many genres and themes into its story. One episode can be funny and lighthearted while another can be dazzling and majestic. Those who enjoy action can enjoy the magical girl combat, while those who prefer more grounded stories have the slice of life civilian moments. It's really telling how Sailor Moon, both the manga and anime, would go on to inspire so many more creators. Need I even mention Moonlight Densetsu, the opening theme? A genius work of music that will stick with you to this day, especially nowadays as anime opening themes start to sound more homogenized. If you're looking for a classic old-school anime with plenty of moments to laugh, cry, and cheer, then I highly recommend watching Sailor Moon classic. You won't want to miss it.

I feel like this show, more than any I've ever seen outside of maybe a few comedies, is the most "Saturday Morning Cartoon"-esque series I've ever seen. The vast majority of these episodes, you could just kind of "flip on" and not really need to think that hard about the plot and, in that respect? I think by isolated episode, it's a good, enjoyable show. I think it's funny, the main 3 Scouts (we'll get to the other 2 in a second) and Luna have good chemistry, it has cool moments at times, including a genuinely sad moment with one of the villains. The problem is if you try to watch it at a pace quicker than, like, 2 episodes a week. This is not the show to try and watch at any sort of accelerated pace because is it miserable to sit through the exact same scenario like 45 times. >Sailor Moon meets person >We get to know person for a few minutes >Jabroni of the arc turns person into monster >Sailor Moon and friends fight with their one signature attack each >Short denouement If you're watching this like a Japanese schoolgirl in the early 90s where you're only watching one episode a week? Perfectly fine formula. However, it got on my nerves towards the end. I don't think it helps that a lot of the characters are kind of bland. We meet Sailors Moon, Mercury, and Mars pretty early on and they're good. Great. That is a strong trio you can build off of. You've got your clumsy crybaby jackass MC, her hot-headed rival in Mars, and the cool-headed mediator in Mercury (my personal favorite). We get a few episodes of just those 3 and then in the later half, we meet Jupiter and Venus. Jupiter, like, has her own personality but I'm not really sure why she needs to be here. She just kind of seems like a less aggressive Mars to me? She's kind of tough and tomboyish but also is super boy-crazy and... I don't know, is that not just Sailor Mars? I mean, I like Jupiter but she never really sold me on her existence. I think Venus is the worst one though, not because I dislike her but I'm not even really sure what she's supposed to be? She appears with a second cat and her role is basically "oh, we've gotta wrap this shit up, Artemis, drop some lore about the Dark Kingdom". She only really got one episode ABOUT her and even then, idk, the only impression I hypothetically got was Moon going "wow, Venus is so much more mature than us"... and is that not just Mercury? She even throws some proverbs for Mercury to just go "oh, actually, this is what the proverb is and how you use it." She's, at best, really bland and at worst kind of aggravating since her cat Artemis is really heavy-handed at railroading the plot back onto the rails after filler hell. She doesn't even have the plus of having a striking design like Jupiter, she's a blondie with blue eyes like Moon, only her hair's just a straight curtain of blonde unlike Moon's famous hairstyle. Tuxedo Mask kind of sucks for the most part too. His role is: 1. As a civilian (mind you, he's a college student and Moon is a middle schooler), to shit on Moon 2. As Tuxedo Mask, to throw a rose at the Monster of the Week and encourage Sailor Moon to fight and win He does get something to do in the later stages of the story but even then, a lot of it is still just a more anti-hero version of being Tuxedo Mask. The villains kind of suck. I like the minions of Queen Beryl, even if they're just: Zoisite and Kunzite: "I'm gay!" Nephrite: "I'm straight!" Jadeite: "I'm a jackass!" But Queen Beryl herself just kind of sucks too. She sits there, ominously moving her hands around a crystal ball while her minions do her actual dirty work until the literal last episode. Her 3 moods outside of the last episode are: 1. Ominous crystal ball 2. Talking to Queen Metalia (who is just Evil Energy/an evil that needs to be awakened, even less interesting than Beryl) 3. "you have failed me, minion, but I will give you yet another chance/you have failed me, minion, DIE!!!!" It's hard to tell with how fatty this series is with filler (22/46 episodes are canon according to MAL, which means more episodes are filler than are canon) but the Dark Kingdom arc just seems kind of plain? Like, this is the plot of Sailor Moon if you take out all the filler: We meet Sailor Moon *fast-forward* We meet Sailor Mercury *fast-forward* We meet Sailor Mars *fast-forward* Jadeite says "fuck it" and fights them Nephrite appears, does a couple Monster of the Week tricks, and seduces a middle school girl We meet Sailor Jupiter *fast-forward (side note: what do you MEAN Ryo Urawa is filler, bro was so good for Mercury)* We meet Sailor Venus Sailor Venus and Artemis drop a whole bunch of lore about who the Dark Kingdom is, what the Silver Crystal is, who the Moon Princess is, etc. The Dark Kingdom actually bothers to strike Sailor Moon vs. Dark Kingdom If you try to watch this show without the filler, it seems like it's really skinny and lacking any substance which is kind of weird because it's still 2 cours long without the filler. The ending sucks too. I'm sure you can guess why just by looking at the last two episodes' titles (which are spoilers, as much of spoilers as looking at the episode titles beforehand can be), it actually pissed me off so bad I dropped it down a point or two. Idk, man, it's entertaining enough if you're just watching it episode-by-episode, but it's not really that good as a whole. It's super repetitive and when it's actually on track and about the Dark Kingdom, it's some of the worst episodes in the show (outside of the like one or two episodes Nephrite gets towards the end of his arc but given how much fucking filler we get, kinda wish we got more with him).

I could go on and on here, but i will straight to the point, this is one of the BEST anime i've watched, not because it is super complex like Ergo Proxy, no because it is deep like Berserk and neither because of how revolutionary it was, but because this anime captivates you, this anime makes you feel like you are hanging out with a couple of friends, you feel connected to the story and it is so much FUN, this anime is light on you, easy going, if you want to watch something that is enjoyable and beautiful, WATCH THIS !

This is actually the first Shojo anime I've ever seen :) My 12 y/o sister wanted to get into anime, so I was like 'let's watch Sailor Moon together, it's a classic and it musts be fun'. I'm going to talk about the positive aspects here: It took us a lot to finish it because we are quite slow watchers, but that doesn't mean it got boring. Personally, I enjoyed the story and its characters; it never was too dense or overwhelming. The overall aesthetic of the theme was the best thing IMO; colors, style of drawing, the intro and outros. Particularly, the Miracle Romance intro was so so catchy, we always sang it in each episode. Friendships were cool, Luna was my favorite character (even though she's a cat) and the Sailor team was so dynamic and amusing. So, overall it was a very fun Shojo anime and I'm definitely going to continue with its second season. A solid 8 for me. Now, briefly mentioning the things I did not like: Some undertones there were throughout the show; I don't really blame anyone because this was an anime released in the '90s. Times change and things were different back then. Many small comments, thoughts and behaviors of some characters did not really sit well with us (specially with my sister, since she's a very modern girl and was brought up a different way), but overall we understand that it's a different cultural context. Now, getting spoiler-y: all the plot of Usagi being the Moon Princess and forgetting everything was kinda.. shallow. Like they could have come up with something better explained, or more deep. But again, it's a show for kids so it's not a real complaint. Definitely would recommend if you're looking for a classic 'old' show, this anime defines what the Magical girl genre is. :)

A great first season of this classic show. The plots were usually interesting. I generally don't like superhero media but this distinguished itself from most superhero stuff nicely by having the villain schemes actually be interesting and cool as opposed to just "capture this guy and take over the world". I also very much enjoyed the fact that it was in a realistic setting, and all of the main cast start off as ordinary girls- I think that helps accentuate the fantasy elements much further, and I find "ordinary world fantasy" a lot more engaging then "fantasy world fantasy" (not that the latter is bad, though). I could do without the romance plots, though. The show also excels in it's humor and emotion. Most episodes have at least one funny part in them, and when the show goes for the feels, it usually lands. I like all of the characters. Usagi/Sailor Moon is my favorite. She's a ditz, clumsy, crybaby...but that's exactly why I like her. She provides a lot of laughs. But all the rest are good too. I also really like the cats, they're cute. The animation is great. In particular, the backgrounds are pure aesthetic. The fight scenes aren't stellar usually, but they are at least decent. And in the final episode of the show, everything comes together, creating one of the best TV episodes i've EVER seen. Overall, a great show. Any fan of "magical girl" series, or just "urban fantasy" in general, should check it out. Though i'm pretty sure most magical girl fans have already seen this :)

I dont hate sailor moon. In fact, this was my second anime ever,so I do like it. The story line was ok,The characters were fine, well, almost.I remember watching this when by 6 minutes in I started to realize,The main character(Usagi tsukino) is ANNOYING. Even her daughter chibi usa is annoying as for the other sailor gaurdians they were FINE,at least they didnt want to make me punch my screen in! The transformation scenes in this show actually moved well and didnt seemed forced.I even remember yelling "JUPITER STAR POWER MAKE UP!" a few times I still remember sailor moon not for it's snore of a main character, but for the stunning animation, and the characters who bought the story to life. This is one of my most favorite magical girl anime's of all time.

im enjoying this kind of anime! i can't say "tired" for repeating it.. too cool, i thought. as a woman, sinking myself in a emotional anime with the cool togetherness story will make me relaxed. oh; i love its soundtrack too! moonlight densetsu, the "night aura" is truly appeared. but i don't know why; im very disappointed with this kind of anime bcz Naoko Takeuchi doesn't make another sequel after Sailor Moon Stars (as y'all know, 'crystal' version is a reboot from previous anime or manga). im addicted with this. ahh.. and the last sentence i gonna tell : i have became an otaku when i look this anime!

This show will always hold a place in my heart as the very first anime I ever watched (that I can remember anyway, lol) back when it aired on Toonami in the 90s. And now that I've finally been able to watch the whole first season through uncut, I'm happy to see that I still adore this after so many years. There's just something about it that I can't help but love, and I will be forever glad that it was my first taste of everything I could come to love about anime: the romance, the laughs, the feels, girls with superpowers fighting evil, the funky expressions you'd only find in anime. I will always love it to bits.

Sailor Moon is rather a good anime. Much of the anime is good quality; the story is well thought out, the art style is excellent for its time and comedy and humour is clever and witty. The only real drawback to this anime is the general stupidity of all the characters, in spite of the mostly well though out cast and personalities this trait tends to dull down a lot of the plot and dialogue to a point where it gets unrealistic at times. There's no denying that this anime is really for young teenagers, but the charm in endearing. It's worth watching for anyone with an interest in semi-realistic fantasy.

When someone looks back on Anime, "Sailor Moon" from Toei Animation will be considered one of the pioneering pathfinders in establishing the genre in the United States. It serves as a standard for the magical girl genre and is one of the most recognized brands in animation. And this series is where it all started. I myself saw it in the same morning block as "Pokemon" and "Dragon Ball Z" in the late 90s. While I was not the targeted demographic, I was hungry for all things Anime so I watched and was pleasantly entertained. But as I write this review, I ask- "How good is it really?" The show has a very "if Disney did Power Rangers" feel to it. A chosen one magical girl with a talking animal as a guide. An evil queen as a villain. A squad of color and element oriented co-stars (really sidekicks with cookie-cutter personalities) named after planets all working together fighting a generic bad guy of the week. It's very tedious and formulaic. Waiting weeks on end for an actual plot point to kick in, it's a bit of a grind. But, it had some surprises going for it. One aspect I enjoyed most was having the evil queen's lieutenants have some depth to them. They have their own subplots and story arcs. And it serves as a way of endearing them to the fans. While the show does have a bit of depth to it here and there, it does fail to hold up when it comes to art. Much of it is re-used and re-re-used. And such a budget saving measure over the course of a 40+ episode series is quite common, but it does make a viewer long for a fast forward button. Not only re-used, but it has not aged well. It has some cringe-worthy scenes in terms of animation and also voice acting. I've heard dubs and the original Japanese and none of them really held up as anything but competent at best. The show is a classic, but very flawed. And the flaws are made more glaring with the addition of time. However, it is still a decent kids show. Yes, it's a simple, episodic merchandise machine of a program, but it has some mildly entertaining action and humor and tries to send a positive message. So many modern Anime programs try too hard to be complex and cerebral and fail to realize that sometimes less is more. "Sailor Moon" gives a simple and overall pleasant experience for what boils down to the Anime equivalent of tap water with a twist of lemon. Overall I give this show an honest 6/10. Check it out. Cheers!

Sailor Moon will always be an all-time favourite of mine. It holds a special place in my heart also because I remember watching it as a kid, too. When I re-watched it though, I enjoyed it a lot more. I think the thing that really kept me hooked were the characters. They were all so diverse, and I just became really attached to Usagi in particular (because she is literally me). Honestly, there wasn't really much to the storyline as it continuously repeated the same thing over and over again, but it still manages to be intriguing because of the characters and the comedy aspect of it that keeps you wanting more. There are a lot of episodes, and after the first few seasons the story does actually develop into a more interesting one. As for the art, I personally really like the old style that is used.
