S1 had a story to tell, S2 does not. That alone immediately disqualifies this season as soulless cash-grab filler not worth watching. It's simply 2 arcs of a pointless action battle royale and a siege mission in which the boring shooting action gets drawn out 5x longer by pointless stuff and brain-damaging dialogue filler. The characters may as well be completely different people in-game vs irl because of how bad the lack of character consistency is. The environmentalism and anti-war messaging was thrown in so hamfistedly and shallowly/briefly that it was comical and borderline damaging to its cause. The barest of game mechanics they did establish such as with bullet lines were used inconsistently in ways that contradicted itself. Whoever wrote this barely understands war games and mostly just did a bunch of dumb stormtrooper nonsense and silly exploits. No worldbuilding. No character development. Trash/filler dialogue. No plot. 2/10 (where 5/10 is average)

Honestly, it was a huge surprise for me that this anime got a sequel after so many years, and while I don’t have much hope, I’d love for the same miracle to happen again six years from now. The change in studio was beneficial for this anime. While the first six episodes are a bit closer in animation to the first season, the latter six showcase noticeably better animation quality. I can’t help but praise the aesthetics of the opening and endings—they were pure art. Another aspect that made me really happy was that we got more songs from Elza Kanzaki. I know it’s ReoNa, but they just hit differently. But not everything was perfect. Even though the director is the same as in the first season, I felt a drop in the quality of the direction. In the first season, we had screen time for two tournaments, Karen's drama, and several other moments in the real world. Here in the second season, the tournaments often felt dragged out, lasting longer than they should and giving too much screen time to secondary characters who added little to the story. Because of this, we had very few real-world moments. I really wanted to see more of the dynamic between the main four characters together, something that wasn’t possible in the first season since Pito’s identity wasn’t revealed until the end. At least we got a beautiful fanservice scene with Elza in episode eight, and that was a big win for me 😭😭😭. It was good while it lasted. Honestly, I prefer this spin-off to many of the arcs in the main story. I love seeing these characters, and for me, GGO is the best game in the SAO universe.

NOT RECOMMENDED, when they announce this new season i was like "Ehh!?? why bother making season 2? nobody wants it" so yeah thats my thoughts but i was surprised though so i guess its a good thing? anyways after watching everything yeah i guess it right "theres nothing" no story, no moments that makes you "wow its cinema!" or etcc... its just survival fps game but in anime, now you might think its ok just like that but im totally sure its not and pretty sure you won't like it unless your not a fan of fps survival game that just curios want to see this anime so you can get a reference what fps survival game is all about, BASICALLY: its like watching a grade schooler level film? they show something so common without saying anything its common (dont get mistaken its not compliment), MC have op powers as usual even thought its supposed to be normal that every players have op skill s besides that "super speed" skill sht (iirc they explained it in season 1), plot was just tournament arc, well overall this series was just excess, not needed, pointless, you can even count this as NOT SEQUEL thats all, guessing they make this season cause maybe TV needed to fill the time slot or some other reason sht its just a guess though, Edit: FORGOT TO TELL!! ENDING SONG IS GOOD!!!

This anime is a decent and enjoyable watch, but it falls short of its potential, leaving me frustrated with what could have been. My biggest issue lies with season two, which feels too “safe.” By the end of the series, there isn’t much new or significant information that changes what we already knew about the plot or characters from season one. While we do gain deeper insights into Llenn and Pitohui’s personalities and mindsets, their character arcs were already well-developed in the first season. That said, this aspect was handled competently. Unfortunately, other characters like Fuka and M receive minimal development, and much of the focus remains on conflicts that were already resolved in season one. The game setting also feels outdated. While the concept worked well in 2018, by 2024, the mechanics, especially in the earlier episodes, seem dated. The constant tinkering by the developers within the game disrupts the flow, leaving the characters with little time to adapt or strategize properly. Pitohui’s plans succeed far too often due to excessive plot armor: her reckless strategies prevail even when a single logical counteraction could have unraveled them. Additionally, there are no new characters introduced, and the story sticks to the same cast, same stakes, and same game. The final arc attempts to consolidate the cast and showcase new weapon types, but it doesn’t add much depth. The lack of animation quality in episodes 9–11 ending is disappointing, especially when compared to the impressive visuals in the finale. However, the voice acting is a strong point, with Hisaka Youko’s energetic performance as Pitohui standing out. Overall, while this anime is watchable and enjoyable, it plays things too safe. The production team seemed content with creating something decent rather than pushing for a standout project. What felt refreshing and exciting in 2018 now feels rather average in 2024, unable to truly stand out in today’s competitive market.

The second season was overall weaker than the first season, due to the lesser stakes and less LLENN focus. Their decision to focus on minor characters within the GGO world had mixed results. On the one hand, if more seasons are adapted, every minor team now has some characterization. On the other hand, the episodes spent on the minor characters were the weakest. The unfortunate part is given the last episode, they definitely could have done effective minor character focus without wasting much screen time so it was a matter of execution where some of it was done good, some of it was done bad. Any episode with a LLENN focus was really good. The action was sharper and her gaming is fun attitude shines in contrast to crazy Pitohui though LLENN in her own way is crazy. The season of GGO is worth watching with lesser expectations with the first. I appreciate the attempt different direction it took to not make GGO the LFPM show but I do fault its execution.

I caught up with season 1 a few months ago. From what the anime community says, it's supposedly "so bad." Sometimes, you don’t need a show to be deep or thought-provoking to enjoy it. This series delivers pure entertainment from start to finish, with a focus on action, humor, and vibrant characters. The plot might be straightforward, but it’s packed with enough energy and excitement to keep you hooked. Whether it’s the over-the-top battles, witty dialogue, or just the sheer fun of watching things unfold, this show knows exactly what it’s doing and does it well. It’s not here to make you think too hard—it’s here to make you have a great time, and it absolutely succeeds at that. Do I recommend this to others? YEAH! Did I enjoy it? YEAH! Do I like it? YEAH! OSTs are good too(8.6) Animation (8) Overall an 8.5 I'm looking forward for another season if they make one.

Didn't except much. The creator of manga already proved to be able to create way better story, in the waste-potential Sword Art Online. The anime had few weirder moments, that would never occur in any game ever, but it was still enjoyable experience. Surprises were well foreshadowed, and most viewers probably would miss them, or not think about foreshadowing too much. It's really nice preparation and execution. The amount of characters once again is so huge, they are all blending together, leaving rather bland mix of generic characters, with few pieces of strong personalities among gags. There's also the finale of each arc, just like in first season, filling me with chills about psychotic behaviour of LLEN in those few situations.

I said the principal problem in the first season. (ideology construction) Beyond that (which is already a major handicap), for the second season, there are the same other problem like i said for the first season. A pleasant development, we expect a gripping plot (like the first season) but a disappointing ending and uninteresting. No real stakes. It also deserves a 5, but could have deserved a 7 if there had been real substance and interest in the story. The production remains good; whether you like it or not, it is still enjoyable to watch, but in its current form, it does not deserve more than a 5.

5.5/10 ~ Just more of the same This anime just felt safe, they did almost the exact same thing and honestly it got a bit boring tbh. Next to no character development or world building pas one of the last scenes of the final episode which more or less left this on a cliff hanger. It was quite funny to watch them incorporate Fortnight / Real modern Battle royal mechanics to the show like a shrinking map... but fortnight was already popular when the 1st season came out so honestly it made no sense that was not a mechanic in the 1st season. One of the more interesting plot points was Pito using the nerve gear to play GGO and the clear implications with that, just completely glossed over. Instead the only thing we get for world building on this front was the absolute glazing of Kirto in a Kameo, and a absolutely not necessary etchi scene where we get to see the hot characters nude... great lol 🙄 But at the end of the day we are here for cute girls being absolute psychopaths, Gurlz W/Gunz if you will. And if you enjoyed season 1, you will forsure enjoy season 2. I just wish there was more substance. Shame.

Overall, I thought this was pretty alright. Taking a cursory look at other reviews, it looks like the general consensus is that the story was a lot less tight this time around, and I think I agree, but on the other hand, I also think I really came to appreciate the side characters more this season (especially the machine gun guys; they were so annoyingly funny to me). Honestly, there is not all that much to say about this one. I think people who enjoyed the first season and would like more of that flavor of SAO will continue to like this (or possibly won’t because of the reference to you-know-who lol; that really hit me like a truck).

Finally found some time to watch the second part of the spinoff. Okay, that's now almost, yes, and it's a big 'almost', SAO through and through, reaching the point where it finally catches the SAO drift. It's not SAO but it takes on its glory and doesn't fall too far. While the first one surely felt kind of forced SAO-inspired/related setting, this one already feels rather different. Partly due to studio change and A-1 is a great choice here as they already did really good job for Fatal Bullet. They really know how to make things work for this kind of setting. The art is highly dynamic and never feels dull. The only repetitive thing is the battle music but it actually fits the pace so why not. Also the source writing itself has changed a bit, taking more close to the original SAO author style, and now this is indeed clever and brutal. I'd say while the first one was mostly a battle of honors except maybe the very end, this one creativity now becomes really on par with Fatal Bullet, with characters really employing all the means and trickery possible to win it the hard way. I really enjoyed all the brutal stunts pulled. The AIs are also made much more close to Flucts, so much that it even makes you question if these are not one of the Flucts iteration in the end. The only thing it's still lacking in comparison to the main SAO story is the bigger picture. Specifically, none of it. Zero. Nilch. Totally void. These are purely action series with no thrill and no bigger meaning. Not even a slice of life and few minor spared bits also don't count. It seems it will keep being like that as the source keeps being more concentrated on tournaments and action than on anything around even more now. Not SAO, nevertheless, but is a good watch. If you liked Fatal Bullet but are diverted from GGO by the first season of it, well, try the second one. It kind of pales in comparison story wise, but highly delivers in action.

Gun Gale Online is a franchise set in the Sword Art Online universe. The first season was somewhat watchable, even though it had a few flaws. Unfortunately, this nonsense continued in the second season. Just to remind you, we are in a game world where player vs. player is the game concept. It's just ridiculous when players who know it's not real start wetting their pants and trembling with fear of being "shot." However, we experience these feigned war traumas in almost every episode, and it's just annoying. This is then rounded off by weak dialogue, such as in episode 4, where you drive past a battlefield and see "player corpses" floating in the water. A depressed Lenn looks sad and ponders, "What a tragedy, what led these players to defeat each other here?" Yes, that's right! We are in a tournament, a battle royale to be precise, and our main character is desperate for the players competing against each other to be eliminated from the tournament... - A story couldn't be written any more stupidly. Gun Gale wants to be a war movie, but it completely fails to reflect the drama of war because it's not a battlefield, but a game where no one dies.

It’s an okay season, I guess. The story isn’t really unique, it feels more like filler that doesn’t push the characters or the plot forward in any meaningful way. That said, if you’re into this type of setup, you might still enjoy it just for the vibes. Personally, I think I liked it mostly because I was already attached to the characters from season 1. The art style works fine for the story, it doesn’t stand out too much, but it fits the overall tone. The characters are the same, there is just more scenes with them. Overall, if you already like the characters and the world, you’ll probably find it decent enough. But if you’re not invested in them from the start, I can’t really see you getting much out of this season. For me, it’s a 7. Mainly because in my head, anything below that means I didn’t really like it too much. This one was okay, it just had a lot of wasted potential.
