Yaiba: Samurai Legend
HERMIT_PAIMON
Pure cinema This how a remake should be done , hats off to wit studio 🖖. From details to nostalgic feel you will get everything unless you haven't watched original . Main problem is that this kind of shonen is hard to attract audience specially in modern days where shonen like demon slayer rule the anime market . Support and advertising the show is another factor on which collaborators failed really hard . The most amazing thing I liked is mixture of art style which gives you a 90s feel with modern touch . Nothing much to say , a must watch show if like genuine adventure samurai shonen. Probably the best anime of 2025 for me . Waiting for next season.

Yaiba: Samurai Legend is, in theory, something akin to my ideal anime. A battle shounen action/adventure (emphasis on adventure) series with at least some degree of a romance element speaks to me on a primal level like nothing else. As for this one in particular, while I can certainly say that it’s more than just the Dragon Ball clone it initially presents itself as, it also falters in more areas than I would have liked. Yaiba is a bit more of a precocious prankster than the mostly innocent Goku, but that tradeoff does come with a bit of lost charisma as well, and the fact that the show’s main villain becomes mostly uninteresting as soon as he becomes the main villain was a bit of a letdown, though most of the side villains more than kept up their end of things. Sayaka also became a huge sticking point for me since…well she basically does nothing. I am more than willing to ride the Yaiba/Sayaka romance despite a bit of a rushed ramp-up in the middle section, but the fact that she literally becomes his ball carrier for half the series is immensely disappointing despite her being introduced as a practitioner of kendo much like Yaiba. Fortunately, this also turned out to be one of the flashiest and consistently high-value productions of the year. Pairing Aoyama Gosho’s distinctive and appealing character designs with the full force of Wit Studio makes for a delightfully eye-grabbing experience front to back, though I also can’t deny that there were points where I reached a state of sakuga overload and felt my eyes glaze over, especially as the power creep turned into a full-on rocketship to the Moon in the last two episodes. This is not a show that’s going to give me everything I want despite how much I crave it, but what it is giving me is still fairly satisfying for now. Hopefully the next season will delve further into what sets this series apart as a battle shounen classic.

A beautifully animated and shamelessly faithful revival of a classic action-comedy that becomes pure nostalgia in a bottle. In what feels like the golden era of high-effort retro revivals, Yaiba stands out as an exceptionally polished adaptation. Fully embracing its campy, simplistic origins, it invokes the warm familiarity of a Saturday-morning cartoon, but matches the pacing and high-octane energy of modern fare. Yaiba is predictable, peppered with gags and age-old narrative conceits that occasionally drag on its pacing and production quality (particularly in the second half), but it retains confidence in the childish, gleeful excitement it represents. And frankly, that makes me happy.

A Simpleton, naive and predictable story. Don’t get me wrong while being all this the anime itself is not boring whatsoever. The first 6 eps are enough of a reason for you to stay back and finish it. The first 6 episodes are really interesting, the overall premise, artstyle and animation is really great although what happens after first 6 episodes has that basic pattern that anime like Yaiba follows but it never fails to entertain you. And that’s why I was a bit excited to finish this. It gives off that 90’s anime vibe (well it is from 90’s but a remake) with the MC & Villain giving that 90’s vibe as well. I have to say it again, the artstyle, animation and the fights are pretty neat in this anime. The character designs are a bit different than what we are used to—WIT Studio really went at hard it with the animation and fight scenes. The curveball in the ending I did not expect that twist in the story. The first 6eps and last 6eps they are 🤌🏻 I have to say we have female character who always shouts the MC’s name like YAIBA YAIBA YAIBA… like Sakura from Naruto and Inoue from Bleach but somehow I don’t hate her. She is less irritating and her character is written really well as well. Do give it a chance it will lighten your mood.
