"Can we watch Fate?" "No, we have Fate at home" Fate at home: I could already tell from as early as the first episode that this show was not going to be well-received, and as you can probably tell from its current score, I was more than right. This is probably going to be one of the few more positive reviews about Petals of Reincarnation, so I'm going to do my best to defend it, as well as hopefully maybe even convince everyone reading this review to give it a shot. After all, the fact that this show is rated significantly lower than most of the generic isekai slop that comes out every season physically pains me. I can definitely understand a lot of the hate for this show, but some of the criticism for it also seems pretty far-fetched, and sort of like people just want a reason to hate. Now with all that said, let's just go ahead get right into it! Visuals: I have a seen a lot of complaints regarding the animation seen in Petals of Reincarnation, but to be honest, I just don't really see much worth complaining about. Is this show's animation the prettiest thing in the world? No, and I can see why people might be a little let down by it, especially with all of the beautifully animated series that have been releasing lately. I mean, just last season we had Jujutsu Kaisen's third season and Fate;Strange Fake setting higher and higher standards for animation with each episode, and now this season we have Witch Hat Atelier blowing us all away once again with the wonders of animation. However, in my opinion at least, you will find a different kind of beauty in Petals of Reincarnation. While it does utilize rather simple animation, the show's unique look and astethic make even the simplest fights feel like a treat to watch, offering a kind of visual spectacle that belongs uniquely to this series. So no, this show isn't going to be winning any awards for animation anytime soon, but it still looks leagues better than any of the more generic seasonal fare. The Main Character: Normally this would be the part where I discuss the characters found in the show, but since everyone seems to think the protagonist is the weakest part of the show, I'll be discussing the man himself, Toya Senji, in this section. I personally really like Toya as a main character. While the fact that unlike the majority of characters in the show he is not a reincarnated historical figure but rather just a normal guy certainly puts him at a disadvantage, I think he still offers a fresh enough take on the usual stereotypical shonen protagonist trope to be far more interesting than one might think at first glance. After all, Toya is not a good person, and the show never really attempts to paint him as such. Unlike your usual happy-go-lucky shonen protag who is all smiles and always thinking about helping others, Toya is pretty much the polar opposite. He's selfish, doesn't like to rely on people, and pretty much only cares about himself. Watching him slowly grow and change throughout the show is one of the best parts of it, and to me at least he is just as integral to the story as everyone else. Story: I'll just come right out and say it, Petals of Reincarnation does not have a very strong story. It is your typical good versus evil storyline, but I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing. When did every anime have to have some sort of deeper message or meaning? Sometimes it's okay to just watch an anime for fun without thinking too hard about it, and that's exactly what Petals of Reincarnation is. Who cares if the story is basic? It gets the job done and provides a solid foundation for all of the different interesting characters, which is all you really need in a show like this. And to all the people who are calling this show edgy and over-the-top, I say this: Does it really matter? It fits with the show's themes and overall tone, and if anything it just adds to the fun. There are plenty of other edgy anime that are still a delight to watch, and I personally this show is just as good. One disclaimer I would like to put out there though is to not come to this show expecting it to be like Fate. While they do share similar concepts, the Fate franchise and this series have very different priorities in mind, and this show won't really scratch the Fate itch for anyone who is looking for a show of a similar variety. Sound: There is unfortunately not really much to say here, with the soundtrack definitely being one of the more forgettable parts of the show. None of the background pieces are particularly memorable, with the ED not being one I would wait to listen to, but it is worth giving some praise to the opening. "Glitch*" by eill is one of the best openings I've heard from a seasonal anime in a while, being not only an absolute banger but also a perfect fit for the show. Definitely one for the playlist, if I do say so myself. TL;DR & Summary: An overhated show that deserves a whole lot more love, please go give Petals of Reincarnation a try if you find it even a little bit interesting! Thank you for reading and I hope you'll all be tuning in with me for the next season as well, Moshimochi284

This was highly disappointing, like a bad idea getting approved. Or rather an incomplete one. Let's start with the easy one. I liked the character designs. Each character was easy to distinguish from one another and have their own unique personality and quirks. The animation, while not spectacular, was on par for the time. I also believe the show had a rather interesting premise at least in The proposal stage. The premise of being able to steal someone else's talents and abilities is intriguing especially if you think about it in the context of a real world setting. Like being able to steal Michael Jordan's basketball ability or tiger woods golf ability. But now let us get to the elephant in the room. This show would have been a lot more interesting had it not devolved into the battle shonen. The concept of returners it's just because quirks and ninjas and soul reapers were already taken. You can replace returners with any shounen-based theme and it would still be the same. The returner aspect has no impact on the story. And given the poor writing that the second half of this series has you are better off watching any other battle shown in than this. Tl;dr: Any other battle shonen is better than this, watch those instead.

It is one of those which I personally find so bad it is fun to watch. What is it about: Power. "Talents" earned through cutting your throat with a "Branch of Reincarnation". That "talent" will be loosely related to a historic personality(Einstein -> teleportation...). It is possible to achieve a full returner where that person actually becomes that historic personality and looses there memory of who they were before. MC is living in a depressed state and wants to be something. He looks up to his older brother who died in an accident and has a craving for recognition from him which he never felt. Thus he decides to take the chance that gets presented to him and uses the branch of reincarnation. Talents come in two kinds the "great" ones and the "evil" ones(forgot the actual term). MC gets a great one and got told its the purpose of the great to eradicate the evil's because their power corrupts them. But as it turns out there is more too it and the world turns on its head again. MC starts to think about what having gained the power means. The good: - not too bad writing(except for some things) - actually good animation - story board seems to have paid of (good fights and all) - the main character is actually not that unreflected The bad: - the totally out of place cgi for flower petals and the "centipedes" (holy shit they look aweful... it could have been solved a different way.. i think... i honestly think the animators did great) - using historical figures for the characters feels.. uhm.. not that great. it is more like a trope. its fine but not great. The ugly: - actually bonkers stupid writing in parts. the way this show deals with suicide is INSANE. you can not kill yourself to gain a talent. you fucking die and people who commit suicide do not expect to gain any talent from it. holy fucking shit. - typical problem of the characters being dense as hell. thinking outside of the box is impossible. (i feel some uber obvious setup for something to come in the future which could just as well be a topic right now in the show.. which could even more simplify current matters... but after all many stories are about the dramatic overly complex conflicts) - "desensitization to death": MC is more badass than human some of the writing is totally unhinged(besides the suicide part.. even more suicide in fact) - oh yeah and fucking Hitler totally fucking unreflected fucking mass murderer holy fucking shit. i am so amazed by how far japanese people who have a common history with nazi germany can take this. i speak this with the utmost respect of the writers as humans this is very very immature and unreflected of the gruesome history. a person such as Hitler has no place in anime such as this! AT ALL!

It was just random at first but in the end I liked this shit. Expected it to be worse but it turned out good so watched till the end. I would say this is worth giving a try. The characters are good but the development is trash. Animation is pretty decent but movement is choppy. Art is really good but the style is mid. The plot is super awesome but the execution is garbage. Backstory is fine but the demonstration is shit. The power system is OP but the usage is ass. The story is a badass but the pacing is turbo granny. You can watch it because its not bad but you can't expect top quality because it's like a toyota corolla

Japan has been pumping out nothing but finely cut gems in recent years, mainly dude to brave and bold experimentation and this is the very tip of the spear of it (although the manga is apparently 12 years old already). Welcome to "what happens when you look up Fate on Bing", or "Temu Fate", or "reincarnated as androgynoys shota Schicklgruber", or best described as anime Clone High, but instead of a comedy satirizing teen dramas, it is action and its power system most closely resembles domain expansions. It operates under a delightfully fast pace, which is much to the appreciation of myself, an iPad kid, but is also a double edged sword as that doesn't appeal to all viewers for some reason, so heed that as your warning if slow and chill anime like Mushishi are your cup of tea. It's no Tatami Galaxi or Kill la Kill, but things tend to move quickly and plot progress is snappy - sometimes shockingly so. The show does love its unceremonious killings. One moment your favorite character group may be on screen, and in the next they may be gunned down mercilessly. More on that later (no spoilers on any deaths or particular encounters). This review will be a little different than most I've done, as I will be talking about everything other than story. The story goes through quite a lot of phases, so it's tough reviewing the plot without entering spoiler territory. Characters There are a TON of characters in this, so this is the lighting round: - MC is a manwa-esque edgelord who grew up in his brother's shadow, trying one extracurricular activity after another, failing to live up to the expectations that he had set for his parents; - Haito is the instigator of the whole plot, as she recruits the MC and inducts him into the organization of the reincarnated historical figures-turned-militants. She is incredibly cute and reliable. I won't say much more, just a good all-around waifu; - Einstein is a tsundere; - Jubei Yagyu is present and is of a similar character to Kyubei Yagyu from Gintama with a sprinkle of Kenshin and is likewise a bright-redhed, so of course she is best girl! - Caeser is a very underrated character. Steals the show at times, but doesn't have NEARLY enough screentime; - The Wright bros are great, cheerful loli flat queens; - Having a character called Allan Smithee is a brilliant joke. For those who don't know, Allan Smithee is by far an away the most popular pseudonym used in Hollywood. People use it whenever they don't want to be associated with a particular movie or project they were involved in. Not to mention that his power is extremely cool as well; - Other insane cameos include: Nostradamus, Pablo Picasso, Darwin, grandmaster Bobby Fischer, Vlad the impaler and even Saloth Sar, better known as Pol Pot! That's a crazier blunt rotation than the Epstein client list; - And now, the thing that everyone has been talking about - the show has loli/shota Hitler. Fate would never! This show goes into areas where other franchises never dared to, either because they don't have the balls to or because it's thought to be too stupid to take seriously. There is some censorship of Hitler's hat's swastika or the Nazi banners displayed in the manga, but for the most part this series is fairly unfiltered, at least when it comes to killing off its cast on an episodic basis as mentioned prior. Either way, the mangaka - Konishi-sensei - clearly doesn't care. He'll nonchalantly include characters like Hitler and Pol Pot and make them androgenous shotas for good measure! On top of that, as stated prior, the series is not afraid of killing characters and doing so in an instant, as death actually tends to be in war. Not this "hold me in your hands while I have one last thing to say for a whole 4 minutes" BS. Konishi-sensei is also clearly a math and particularly physics buff, as Newton, Einstein, Schrodinger, Oppenheimer, von Neumann and even bloody Nightingale are in this. Sure, Einstein and Newton may be normie references, by how often do you see von Neumann and Nightingale in popular media? Overall, the cast for this show is insanely strong. Between shota Hitler, cute little girl Picasso, best girl Kyuubei, tsundere Einstein, the MC, the cute and lovely Haito, the badass, aura-farming Allan Smithee, gigachad Newton, Miyamoto Musashi, Nightingale, the underrated Caesar and FRICKING ZOMBIE NAPOLEON (that also participated in WWII no less!), it is basically impossible to choose a favorite.............................it's Adolf. If I had any criticism at all towards the show's attitude towards character writing, it's that it introduces a bit too many characters for its own good. I already mentioned how some are underrated or do one thing and are forgotten after the fact, but I didn't even mention how the series basically introduces its own Espada on ep 10...yes, really. It's a lot easier than usual to remember the names of characters, considering they are named after famous people throughout history, but even with that I actually struggled to remember who was who at a few brief moments. Animation and artstyle The animation is hit or miss for the most part. Some parts look really good and others are a little stilted. That is literally my only guess as to why this show is bombing in its MAL and IMDB scores, because everything else about it is top tier. People are too spoiled for animation in recent years. Not everything is gonna look like JJK in fight scenes and it's not like this is ever even close to being as stilted and One Frame Man or TBATE. At times the animation is actually quite good, but more than that - the artstyle is really unique and the neon color palette is awesome! Edgerunners made me realize just how peak that color palette is. Even when the actual animation takes some shortcuts and ends up looking kind of cheap, the art style is so damn good and pleasant to look at that it really doesn't matter. Not to mention that those moments are few and far in between. Not much to complain about. This is another piece of living evidence that amazing art style + average animation is way better that a mediocre art style + top tier animation fluidity. Not only is the show superbly colored, but it has excellent character designs. They stick in your mind and are hard to forget. Sure, they may be a bit too out there and flamboyant for a lot of viewers, especially for those who are not well used to this common anime quirk of increasingly weird body types, body proportions, body sizes, hair colors and makeup, but I quite enjoy it here. It's not like in Bleach, One Piece or Inazuma Eleven, where the minor villains eventually became too dumb-looking to take seriously (LOVE all three btw). It sits in the perfect spot as far as interesting looks in my opinion, though the reader should be warned that this will vary from person to person. It's interesting to note how many effects are added to the animation and perspective throughout the entire thing. Some scenes change aspect ration, have the effect of being shot from a projector, change color palette, or change artstyle entirely to represent the protagonist's mental state. Again, the editing is unique and focuses on the mental state of the characters, but it doesn't fully commit to it. For this, it could be considered almost Monogatari-esque editing, without veering into the pretentiousness of that series in my opinion. Sound The voice acting is good. For instance, the big H-man himself is voiced by Hinata from Haikyuu. Other than that, the voices of Neumann, Einstein, Newton, Allen Smithee and Yoshiki Minami (same voice as Tanjiro/Ken Kaneki) are particularly good. However, my biggest praises go towards the soundtrack. The music is really good and it really elevates each scene. Not only are the tracks all really tense fighting songs, but they are always perfectly placed in the heat of the moment. Story & Direction Okay, I withheld this for last, as there isn't much to say without spoiling, but there is somet…

Seemed like a good watch, generated interest (and controversy) when it was announced they would animate this series, but it fell far short of expectations. The anime skips many parts that develop the characters and make you care about them for fight scenes between characters you meet for the very first time. The war arc would’ve been great had they not rushed straight into it with little to no introductions of any characters there. Instead you’re given fights between characters you don’t really know much about which ultimately leaves the whole arc falling flat. They should’ve done more than 13 episodes instead of trying to cram multiple chapters of manga in one episode and choosing to skip developmental parts in the story for fight scenes. Due to the lack of many key things needed in a good anime this probably won’t be seeing a second season. If you’re interested in the series and the historical figures it presents I’d recommend just picking up the manga and skipping this entirely. The artwork is great pacing is much better and the whole story is actually there. The anime felt as if they were catering to the brains of people scrolling TikTok where action was all that mattered to them.

i wont say its perfect but i love this anime the way it is, the pacing is kinda fast at first but they tone down later, no drag out episode in my opinion, love how they handle the screentime for couples like how its not just a team vs team fight its sweet asf, yea it is edgy but edgy wasn't a thing in my childhood so i can take whatever edgy they got, and everytime i watch this anime it always remind me of Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer anime where i always thought that anime would atleast be a bit better if they had this anime budget as reincarnation no kaben but anyways my favorite girl is Neumann idk why though but yeah if you watch till the end maybe you guys are too or maybe its just me, in short the anime is team vs team superpowers fight but later plot twist which is a spoiler so i wont say a thing

The concept is really interesting. Very similar to Fate series (which i really love) with the concept of "reincarnated" famous figures. And those famous figures has their own unique superpowers, so yes really reminds you of Fate series. And i like the power system too. And tbh the overall concept plot are interesting. We can see the MC also developed nicely from an "antihero" to kinder protagonist. The artstyle also unique, it was vibrant and different from others. But, the problem is this anime only good at the concept, because the whole execution was pretty terrible. The story offering a bit of surprise in the middle but gradually becomes boring and didn't have enough charm to hooked me in. The pacing were too fast. And production weren't that good either, pretty bad animation, very bland and boring character design, but on a note the scoring were pretty well made. If the story concept executed better with more well suited pace, and better characters design too, and obviously better animation too, this anime can no doubt become an underrated gem. But sadly that's not the reality.
