Just... no. I love me a powerful MC, and I generally enjoy the ridiculous "noble culture" and "school life" in anime. It's a usually a nice escape from reality. Not in this case. I don't mind a shy character being pushed to grow, but as someone who was that person for most of my teen years I'm quite particular about it. In the case of this show there's not a single redeeming "pusher," with the possible exception of the one genuinely enjoyable character - Isabelle Norton - who aren't absolute pr---s. Every. Last. One. Some other (negative) reviewers mentioned that the MC cries almost every episode, and that she has one ongoing expression... But can you blame her? She's surrounded by what amounts to bullies who pretend to want to push her be better. The "adoptive younger sister" is the only one who actually treats the MC like a human being. Then there's the story. Or lack thereof. We get snippets of Monica's backstory and the political drama she's supposedly meant to be involved in, however peripherally. But if it all amounts to enough runtime to cover a single episode I would be truly surprised. Instead we get the worst kind of "school life" where nothing happens, nothing moves the plot (let alone the story) and most of the characters are as one dimensional as a parallel line. The art is OK. Nothing special, the few scenes where our MC does something properly magical are nice, but outside of that it's as generic as generic gets. You want an awkward female magical MC that grows - watch Mahoutsukai no Yome (Ancient Magus' Bride). You want magical school drama there's more to choose than I could possibly list, so IDK, watch Irregular at Magic High or Misfit of Demon academy. You want nobility/politics drama? Watch any of the doze "Villainess" shows, even the stupidest of the lot "My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom" is better than this. 5/10 and only because I like Isabelle and Nero, the only two decent people of the lot.

Overall, I’d say this show was a solid watch. The animation style is great—clean, expressive, and full of life. While the plot isn’t exactly groundbreaking, it doesn’t feel like a blatant copy of anything either. The world-building, story, and magic system were genuinely enjoyable and kept me engaged throughout. That said, I had one major issue: Monica is almost unbearably pathetic. If you’re reading this, you probably already know the main character, Monica, is one of the seven most powerful magicians in this world of magic. She became so by mastering “silent spell casting,” an ability she developed to avoid speaking in public due to past trauma. That premise is fine, even interesting—but the show goes way overboard with it. Monica spends half the series trembling, apologizing, or breaking down in tears. It’s meant to make her sympathetic, but it often just makes her exhausting to watch.

100% recommended let me get to the point, the animation is just fantastic and quite unexpected because I had never really heard of the the studio that created this masterpiece before. The charcter development is pretty good but I feel its even a bit slow but its definetely happening and it's quite good. It"s definetely quite unique character development as the MC is female and quite shy unlike most male anime where mc is a trash personality . Allover it's a great anime with a lot of potential specially in sol element , it's literally like boochi the rock fantasy version . No unnecessary fights , drama just straight to point which usually makes a strong anime base . Forget to mention and op and ed are fantastic too .

I will say the positive thing first, the animation and music definitely top quality, no complain from those department, all the character that appeared on this anime is likeable except of course the bully character, so also no complain from that department Now the negative side is from the story, the premises actually interesting but it play out just like another power fantasy anime, nothing special, they just replace the harem making male characters to introverted girls with social anxiety, the problem is character like this could be really annoying with wrong genre, unfortunately this is the wrong genre for this kind of characters, if you put it on the comedy genre like bocchi the rock then it's gonna be perfect, but unfortunately they have to put in a political fantasy story, I want to like it but unfortunately I have to put it on the same level as another mid Isekai power fantasy anime

Art — 8/10 The visuals are a real highlight: clean character designs, expressive faces (especially Monica’s shy, tiny reactions), and nicely detailed backgrounds that make the fantasy setting feel lived-in without ever being overwhelming. Animation quality is consistent in dialogue and slice moments; action scenes pop when they need to, though there are a few very minor moments of awkward CGI blending. Overall I just loved watching it. Story-line — 10/10 This season isn’t about huge plot twists or nonstop action — it’s quiet, character-focused, and surprisingly satisfying for someone who usually prefers seinen/thriller/psychological series. The premise is simple: a genius witch who can cast without speaking goes undercover at an academy to protect the second prince. From there the show balances gentle comedy, slow-burn character beats, and light mystery. Monica’s innocent, awkward behavior is endlessly endearing and is the heart of the series; watching her tiny victories in social situations is a joy. The season mostly builds foundation and gives glimpses into a few characters’ backgrounds rather than resolving big conflicts, so it feels like the start of something larger — I’m excited for future seasons because the series drops enough hooks and emotional moments to promise deeper dives into characters and politics later. Important events here are mostly character introductions, a few revealing personal moments, and setup of the central protection/undercover premise — nothing that spoils future stakes, just enough to care. Music — 9/10 Fantastic soundtrack that complements both the tender slice-of-life beats and the more suspenseful scenes. Themes linger pleasantly, and the OST elevates quiet moments without being intrusive. Opening/ending choices fit the tone well. Ending — 9/10 The finale gives a genuinely sweet, memorable beat for Monica — a moment that connects her to a precious memory and a person who matters to her. It felt emotionally satisfying, though the episode itself comes across a bit short; I wanted just a touch more runtime to savor some scenes. I haven’t read the light novel or manga, so I can’t compare, but as a season finale it left me happy and wanting more. Final thoughts — no spoilers If you like character-driven fantasy with warm humor, an adorable lead, and strong production values, this is well worth your time. It’s not high-octane thriller fare, but it surprised me by delivering genuine heart and charm while teasing larger mysteries. Highly recommended if Monica’s shy-but-brave personality and a relaxed, well-crafted world appeal to you.

This was the first anime I watched in a long time that started so horribly. I almost gave up at ep1. It's shouty, it's constantly shoving plot explanations in your face dozens of times. It sounds like an old format of anime we had finally abandoned. It does get reasonably better after episode 3. There's less shouting. Less being so ashamed of silent, quiet moments that you need to scream a normal sentence into your face. I finished it, it's a cute and interesting plot. It was okay. I wanna know where the story goes. And then I started reading the manga. Scenes that were cut from the anime. Completely different vibe. This anime absolutely butchered this story and I have no idea why. It could have been great. The story and characters are all there, but it's hard to get over all the shoutyness of the highschool life and trying to ignore the serious and calm moments that this anime did to itself.

The story of a girl with a very unfortunate life, trying to do her best, and while succeeding in certain parts at great levels, life really likes to take from other areas in the same amount. This story is a very lovely one, but also a bit depressing. It is one of the few in which I actually loved the wimpy, full of anxiety, socially awkward FMC and started to root for he and wished for her happiness, which is quite hard to do, as a lot of stories have those kind of MC/FMC and I think they bring mostly downsides, if not even make the story unbearable. The story is presented in such a way that it seems to me more on the idea of: show, don't tell. You do have the main story that follows the FMC which is still a kid, but a very accomplished one being one of the seven sages in her country given her unique ability of using spells/magic without the chants. From the beginning you just cannot not think that this girl must have went through a LOT to end up being so powerful, yet so meek, full of anxiety, crying from a lot and barely being able to speak with people. She actually has a fear of humans. A lot of times she's being compared to a little squirrel, and tbh, from her behavior and not taking into account the powers she has, it is quite spot on. And the thing is, that once you see a bit of a background, you start understanding how she ended up like that. The big traumas she has been caring, that nobody really cared to treat, because there wasn't really anyone like that for her... At least until now, or at least a part of the events seem to be directed to helping her as well. To not spoil much, from the get go you find out she's being sent to a prestigious school of nobles for a mission, where she needs to act like a normal student and not be recognized (you will see why nobody can really recognize her easily). There, she meets a lot of new people, good and bad, and here lies the beauty of this anime to me: you start to actually see her grow. You see her getting in all sorts of situations, either related to the mission or her school life, and you see her start being... a kid. Something that she missed out on, that seemed she wished for a lot too, as you can clearly see her trying for it, battling all the traumas behind her. You see her fail, but you see her also succeed in her own way, even though progress is slow... but hey, it is still progress, no? But all these don't really sound like an unique story, especially when you put together some generic characters that you can find in all stories like this, so what is it that made me love this anime? One was the presentation of events and the interactions between characters. They were great. Besides the generic characters, which aren't that many, don't really take much screen time and aren't written badly or so, but it was a bit funny how you could guess what everyone's personality were and how they would react, you have other characters that really make this anime more dynamic, more lovely to watch and add a different layer to the story that just makes it feel more special, or better said, real? It is fantasy though... And another aspect of this anime was the art. Great art overall. Especially the last episode had some shots that really surprised me (mostly cuz those I remember right now as I just finished that episode and didn't binge watch it)... And with all these, you couple this with a few hidden side plots that are clearly presented that they progress behind the scenes, but you're not being told much, and it felt like a very interesting world that made me want to know more about it. A few things that bugged me a bit: - cut content... people that read the novel were saying in comments regarding one of the arcs what they altered and left out, which felt to me like a lot... made me question a bit how some other arcs were altered and cut... sometimes it did feel a bit of a weird progress at certain points in the story, like a bit jumpy and awkward, but at least not that many instances.... - the FMC is "silent", aka can't really talk with people as she seems afraid or something like that, so her inner thoughts most likely matter a LOT in these types of stories... but anime format doesn't really work with those type of story parts, which is a bit of a shame... so reading the light novel most likely will shed so much light on certain decisions and events or actions that it will be like a different story most likely. Can't wait for the light novel to finish so I can read it... Story: 9 -- A very lovely story, where the meek and full of anxiety FMC actually grows + a lot of side plots growing behind the scenes that make you try to guess quite a few things. Albeit the altered and cut content do not bring me a lot of joy to hear about, especially because I felt it a bit while watching that something wasn't right... Art: 9 -- Very lovely and great art Music: 9 -- Great OP and its animation. The ending is okay as well. Characters: 10 -- Loved the FMC and most of its characters. Very well done and presented Enjoyment: 9 -- I enjoyed it a lot Overall: 9 Right now it has 8.15 from 58.850 votes Ranked #485 Popularity #1694 Members 151,467 as of 25/10/2025 Highly recommend it to people that want to watch a lovely, a bit more on the slow side, story, that follows a FMC growing out of her traumas, with great art and presentation. Can't wait for the light novel to finish so I can read it. Really made me feel like I have to protect Monica!

It was a very cute and wholesome story, but that was about it. Liked that the MC got most of the screentime., but feel like they needed to add more on the side characters as I was confused why the guy with the glasses had such a weird complex with the MC. Good for someone who enjoys more wholesome shows with a lot of purity, but personally I don't think there is anything too special about the show. It was just cute. However, I really didn't like how the show kept referring back to the mc backstory without us knowing much about it. Wish there was more of her backstory earlier in the show.

The Secret of the Silent Witch huh..... The only secret im curious about after finishing this show is how is it graded so high? TLDR For those who don't care about the details: There's barely an episode worth of magic in this 12 episode soap opera. A bait and switch. Now let's get into the details: This is a show about The Silent Witch,a prodigy in magic and a girl with servere anxiety. And to top that she has severe PTSD as well. I know this is supposed to make her cute and appealing,MOE if you will. But she's so anxious and so PTSD stricken that i simply feel very sorry for her. To the point that all other characters outside the lady pretending to be evil are bullies with the given context. They push her around in ways that should be a crime of some sort. Honestly it was very awkward to watch this show. Of course, i'd have mixed feelings if that was the only reason i couldn't enjoy it. Now for an even bigger issue. The magic is clearly an afterfought. Same with the whole fantasy setting. This show felt more like a Shoujo then anything fantasy related. We spend far too much of the runtime JUST interacting with the other characters Slice of life style. Mostly the dudes as well. Basically a reverse harem situation, that goes even worse then a normal one, because nobody confesses anything, forget unresolved love triangles and all that. It becomes outright dreadful when they don't really have anything intresting about them, the guys. Was far more intrested in watching Claudia's interactions with Neil not gonna lie. Not to mention, quite a few plot points either make no sense or go absolutely nowhere at all.First of all,the whole assassination attempts. You're telling me they went after him the hard way,in the academy directly,on multiple occasions, but when he was walking the streets for the festival they just looked the other way or something? Come on man.... Second of all,the whole Dudley character. We meet him in single episode, then we find out his mana level is crazy, even bigger then Monica's as of now,on par with the best of the Sages. What happens with that vital information? Not only does no other character other then Monica acknowledge this, but after that whole ordeal he's relegated to be an NPC. So basically nothing. Third but not least.... Her childhood friend who now hates her because he has a wrong opinion of her based on stuff he personally saw. We can't blame him because he doesn't see the whole picture like a viewer would. What happens with that? In the same episode in like a minute or two no less he changes his mind and covers for the one person he cannot stand to even breathe the same air as him. And while i did say i can't deny i felt sorry for Monica... I only do as a person. Not as a character. Because she's a Mary sue,not just an OP character. She's both the strongest and smartest and a helpless victim that constantly needs others to bail her out. Having both in the same character at the same time is just bad writing ,plain and simple. Once again,ANOTHER ISSUE to be spoken about:The bait and switch. I mean when i personally hear the title,i expect a show with intrigue, mystery, and alot of magic going on. Instead it was a snoozefest of a soap opera. The art and animation are the only things to praise. Wierd since most of the time is the other way around.A wasted budget on a story that shouldn't have recieved it. All that being said,i cannot in good heart recommend this show. It's obviously not the worst ,but it's not good either. It's plain bad.

I have to say this from the bottom of my heart: Season 1 could have been significantly better if the academy arc had been condensed to around five episodes. I'm not saying the academy setting isn't important to the story, but it simply doesn't have enough emotional weight or meaningful impact on either the protagonist or the supporting characters to justify taking up most of the season. Many of those episodes feel disconnected from the central theme and overarching narrative. Ironically, the strongest parts of the anime are the beginning and the final two episodes. Those episodes deliver the kind of character development and overarching story I expected from the anime as a whole. The relationship between the protagonist and prince is where the story truly shines, and those moments are compelling enough that they could have carried the season even with a much shorter academy arc. The academy setting feels like wasted potential. It clashes with the more interesting political drama and the protagonist's struggles with their past. Keeping the story confined to one location for so long makes it feel stagnant. Whenever the characters finally leave the academy, the story suddenly becomes more engaging because it finally feels like it's moving forward. The pacing reflects this as well. The opening episodes immediately grabbed my attention, but once the academy arc began, watching each episode became a chore. I even considered dropping the series because it felt like the protagonist's development had stalled, even when other characters are introduced. I'm glad I stuck with it, though, because the final two episodes delivered a satisfying conclusion and reminded me of the show's actual strengths. In fact, I believe those strengths would still have worked even if the academy arc had been much shorter. Visually, the anime is excellent. The art is phenomenal, especially during its more emotionally significant and "fast-moving" moments. The soundtrack is also very effective when the story allows it to shine. Unfortunately, outside of those standout episodes, many scenes feel fairly standard, making the contrast between the best and weakest parts of the series even more noticeable. It genuinely feels as though the beginning and ending were written by a different team than the middle portion of the season. Would I recommend it? Maybe. It's a difficult recommendation because so much of the season feels unnecessarily drawn out, especially the academy portion. However, if you're willing to push through the slow middle section, the ending does make the journey worthwhile. I would give this an 8 if it weren't for that, or if it was something different. I really like what this anime is going for but it is just painful to see it like this.

7.75/10; A lovely way to spend an afternoon. Very sweet -- animation is lovely and overall tone is gentle and comforting. The side characters are also quite well developed, and the comedy well timed. That being said, I found myself wanting a bit more for this to be an 8+ show for me. First, the pacing felt a little uneven — not rushed, but some episodes started a bit abruptly, and a few story beats could’ve used smoother transitions. Certain aspects of the story and character development might actually benefit from picking up the pace a little — particularly in the more dramatic or action-heavy moments. I would say its 80% calm slice-of-life and 20% Monica being a bada**/moving the plot along. The other thing that felt a bit clunky was the beginning exploration of Monica's backstory. It’s super dark, which clashes with the otherwise light, slice-of-life tone. It’s not bad, but it could’ve been woven in with a bit more nuance to make it feel cohesive. Overall, I really enjoyed this watch and recommended it for those who want a relaxing, cute breath of fresh air.

Secrets of the Silent Witch became the biggest surprise of the summer season for me, a genuine underrated gem that completely caught me off guard. I did not expect to fall this deeply in love with it, yet from the first episode, it felt warm, familiar, and emotionally inviting. It is a magical and wholesome coming-of-age story that moves with such ease and charm that you barely notice the time passing. Every scene made me smile, giggle, and feel something honest. It is the kind of fantasy that reminds you that magic is not always loud or showy; sometimes it is simply found in growth, comfort, and connection. The heart of the show is Monica, one of the most lovable protagonists in recent anime; a shy, anxious prodigy who can silently cast some of the most advanced magic in existence, but the moment she faces ordinary social interaction, anxiety takes over, and she freezes. That clear contrast makes her incredibly relatable and easy to root for. Watching her slowly build friendships, step outside her comfort zone, and discover confidence is truly touching. She carries the show with her awkward sincerity, and her bond with characters like Cyril, Prince Felix, and Lana brings so much warmth and humour to every episode. The storytelling is also on point, fast-paced, and straightforward; it is never dull at any moment in the show! It's simple and follows Monica quietly guarding the prince from assassination attempts, and their cute little interactions with a dash of romance are heartwarming to watch. It is a feel-good fantasy in its purest form, a gentle reminder of how rewarding it is to see someone grow little by little. Visually, Secrets of the Silent Witch is absolutely enchanting. The soft colour palette, expressive character animation, and lovingly detailed backgrounds create a cozy fantasy world that is a joy to spend time in. Whenever the action ramps up the animation shines even more, showing that the team put real care into making the magic feel alive and striking. The music is equally impressive, featuring memorable orchestral tracks that elevate both the emotional and adventurous moments. It is a beautiful production across the board, never flashy for the sake of it, but always enhancing the heart of the series. By the time the finale arrived, I was already craving more. This is easily one of the strongest anime of the season for me, if not the best. It is heartfelt, funny, uplifting, and sincerely engaging from start to finish. Monica’s journey is inspiring in a quiet and very human way, and watching her overcome her fears one step at a time feels rewarding every single episode. Secrets of the Silent Witch deserves far more recognition, and I genuinely hope we get a second season soon. It is the kind of show you finish with a big smile and the feeling that life just became a little more magical. An easy 9.5/10 and highly recommended!

This was a cute story. I'm a bit of sucker for these types of characters who talk very quiet and are shy, so this show very much played to my interests. I won't lie that there were a few episodes that weren't my absolute favorite and I agree with another user on here who mentioned they were enjoying it less and less as it went on. While I still really enjoyed this show, my enjoyment got a little smaller after every episode from like 7-8 onwards. I feel it peaked about halfway through. Animation is so damn good though. I have no complaints on this front, it looked visually stunning all the way through. Plot was pretty good. Aside from the fact that I may have enjoyed it a little less after a certain point, I still really enjoyed the whole of it. I feel the beginning unfortunately set the bar too high for my expectations. While some of the things I was expecting to happen as well as some things I wanted to happen did occur, it was a little few and far between. That's probably my only complaint with it. Other than that, it was good overall on that front. Overall, I think it was a good watch! I've seen the phrase "bocchi the witch" fly around this series and honestly, it sums it up pretty well (minus a few minor details). I'd recommend it if you like fantasy series with a cute female lead :3

The prettiest magic anime I've ever seen. Monica is a well-written protagonist with a more than valid justification for her phobia. The world-building and magic system are very solid. I like that Monica isn't learning magic and suddenly turning out to be super talented and blah blah blah, but rather that she's at that academy fulfilling a mission, in addition to being one of the most powerful witches in her universe. That gives a fresh breath of air to the usual cliché. I find it very interesting, and they're different—more than just typical pentagrams and magic circles. I hope it gets a second season in the future because I want to see more of this beautiful anime. I recommend it 100% if you like well-made magic anime.

The production quality for this show is completely unbecoming of the writing, which dooms itself to endless inaction. The studio did an amazing job, but the dynamic feels like there's a terminal need for nothing to happen... All of the characters are contained in one of two silos: shoujo student council things, or the actual plot. The issue is that there's a wall built between this splitting of screen-time, priorities, and dynamics: if any character from the shoujo side learns about the plot side, they must be written off, because the plot itself relies upon things not crossing between these two boundaries, and going back over... Most of the characterization feels like it happens on the shoujo side, and the plot side makes no efforts towards long term progress in anything, making it feel like every passing incident is just wasted screen time. If this show was a simple shoujo, it would have been better, because the intrigue here is constructed to never interfere with the shoujo side in a way that matters. Nothing happens in the shoujo side, because the plot side also steps in and makes sure that nothing can happen. The breadcrumb trail of geopolitical hints and hearsay makes absolutely no impact on anything that happens at all: they just jump out of the closet to apply pressure. The only character that seems to hold the entire plot hasn't even been introduced in this first season. That said, he appears to be the only character putting any pressure on anything, given the largest plot point, and the entire reason underlying Monica is doing what she's doing is already made irrelevant by the very root of the problem itself, and thus meddling is the only excuse. Monica is also worth complaining about. Trauma feels like it was more of an excuse, and less of a reason for her to be the way she is. Sure she's cute, but she's frustrating to watch. The Bocchi similarities aren't even there in spirit, but vaguely in action. Comparing the two characters is an insult... Bocchi is a great example of social anxiety, whereas Monica feels like a better example of autism and how it can literally feel like it's a superpower to those outside, but a curse to those who suffer from it. In my opinion, this angle would have been much cleaner to develop than how she actually got developed, as minimally as she has been anyways... The series is also depressingly vague when it comes to the development of things in the world: magic is compared to math, but the dynamics of this aren't explained enough for any kind of building upon, or fulfillment. The need to chant is also not explained. The entire system exists to build up the power fantasy of Monica being a deeply passionate character about math, while avoiding any and all mention of math concepts, how they relate to the system, as well as Monica's understanding of it, aside from a father figure whose only work has more basis in pseudoscience than anything else. It feels like the author wanted to write a character who was good at math, but didn't really care to do any reading on it, or really cared for it at all themselves. If they author cared enough to make this character the way they are, they should have cared enough to actually read up on the things they make the character passionate about.

"when trapped in a corner even the mouse can overcome a great hurdle " I'll be honest, I went into this expecting another generic fantasy anime. You know the type. Overpowered main character, magic academy, evil villains, and a bunch of flashy fights. cus its a great trope. but i was definitely wrong What makes Secrets of the Silent Witch stand out is that it doesn't feel like your typical fantasy series. Instead of constantly trying to raise the stakes with world ending threats, it slows everything down. At times it almost feels like a slice of life, then before you know it you're watching a wholesome romance, followed by some genuinely great action. It blends all of these genres together so naturally that none of them ever feel out of place. The biggest reason this works is Monica. She's one of the strongest mages in the world, yet she's terrified of talking to people. It's such a refreshing change from the usual overpowered protagonist who's confident, cocky, and always has the perfect one liner ready. Monica feels awkward, relatable, and incredibly human despite being able to do things no one else can. Watching her slowly come out of her shell was honestly one of my favorite parts of the show. Another thing that really caught me off guard was the way magic is handled. Most fantasy anime treat magic like it's just another flashy superpower. Wave your hand, say a spell, and something explodes. Secrets of the Silent Witch actually makes magic feel like a science. The mathematical coding behind the spells is such a unique idea and makes the whole magic system feel far more believable. Instead of magic existing just because "it's magic," there are actual formulas, calculations, and logic behind how spells work. It gives the world so much more depth, and as someone who's watched a lot of fantasy anime, it was really refreshing to see. Now don't get me wrong, this isn't an action anime from start to finish. If you're expecting massive battles ( hardly any battles to be fair ) every episode, you'll probably be disappointed. The action takes a back seat for a lot of the story, but I actually think that's one of the show's biggest strengths. It spends its time building relationships and developing its characters, so when the action finally arrives, it actually means something. I do feel if it does get a season 2 the bigger scale fights will take place as the story progress. The animation is beautiful throughout. The magic effects are stunning without feeling overdone, the character designs are memorable, and the soundtrack fits every scene perfectly. would definitely recommend one of the better fantasy's of that season. 8/10

I love Everything about it especially the subtle romance and the ongoing development of the romance genre. The art style is the best like others, bringing out their facial expressions. Just peaceful to watch like a slice of life genre. All characters are top-notch and interesting, love them, especially the main characters. I recommend it to others as it's the best way to unwind and just enjoy your free time to de-stress. All I say is it’s very worthwhile of your time! With thrilling action and emotional scenes - a heartfelt impact is the best. Can't complain about this anime, I just feel good watching all the episodes.

Do you like Bocchi the Rock? You’ll like Silent Witch. Have you never seen Bocchi, did it disappoint, or did you dislike it? I feel that. You’ll still probably like Silent Witch. It’s a lot better. The story is compelling. The MC grows as a person. The reasons she is the way she is are realistic, well explained, and emotional. The secondary characters are interesting and complex, & a few don’t just feel like they exist solely as foils to the MC. No random low-stakes conflict pops up just to “move the plot along.” Great pacing. I’m not going to give reasons for why it isn’t perfect; its “flaws” weren’t apparent while watching, & I can’t “unsee” things other people point out if I read a show’s reviews before starting it. Shoutout to reviewers of Tensei Shitara Dai Nana Ouji, thanks a lot, it had better fight scenes than anything I’ve watched this year, I blame you completely. Anyways Silent Witch is well written, entertaining, & worth trying. 8/10

Door opened: "You don't have to reinvent the wheel to write a good story." -Myself, I think This thought was my first thought about 30 minutes into the show. It was calming, good, and honestly very enjoyable, watching our protagonist struggle with the most basic thing because of her youth trauma that made her very shy as she grew up, combined with the extremely good animation and story of the anime, making all the jokes and funny moments land perfectly. In my opinion, the least strong point of the story is the story itself. I know 12-episode anime have to condense stuff a lot; that's where the plot falls a bit short, but the characters aren't that bad or uninteresting aside from not being "that" deep and still having annoying, unimportant side characters like most school setting stories have. While still having a few interesting ones. Even then the story itself is pretty much one-dimensional; our witch has to defend the prince. That's pretty much it, with each episode being an event leading to her growth. This anime is basically Bocchi the Rock with an overpowered mage, and I love it. It's gorgeous and funny, and even though it's not perfect, it's doing what it wants to do quite perfectly while also being very different. It was also interesting to see our main character's mental growth progressively getting less shy (although not perfectly); I still think it was executed relatively well. The 13th episode ties up loose ends well while still setting up a good premise for a future next season, which I will also review when it comes out, in the meantime I will be reading its manga as the story caught my interest relatively well. (Also the animation of the spell at the end of the first episode was crazy and gave me chills) I shall then give it a 8/10 which equals to a silver door in my ratings (See profile for more information/reviews) Door closed.

The point I want to make about Silent Witch is that it's very cute and handles social anxiety really well — but it can feel repetitive at times. From the title alone, “Silent Witch,” you can already tell the main character is shy. According to the synopsis, she’s incredibly strong in magic, but her shyness causes a lot of complications. The story balances her strength and awkwardness nicely — one moment she’s powerful, the next she’s struggling to talk to people. It’s a fun contrast, but because of this pattern, I found the story becoming predictable. She shines → she struggles socially → she gets better with support and friendship → repeat. Not exactly the same every time, but close enough that you start to expect it. Character development is where the anime shines. Even though we don’t see every character’s past, they all feel distinct and memorable. Some side characters don’t get much screen time, yet I still remember them. The way the show portrays how people interact with someone shy is surprisingly thoughtful — whether it’s giving them space or reaching out first, it feels realistic and kind of inspiring. It reminds you that good people do exist, and maybe we should try to be more like them. As for the visuals, they’re really pleasant to look at. Nothing groundbreaking, but definitely above average compared to other fantasy slice-of-life shows. The art style makes you want to stay in that world a bit longer. Closing thoughts: Silent Witch isn’t the best fantasy slice-of-life anime I’ve ever seen, but it’s one I’d absolutely recommend to someone new to anime — especially if they like wholesome stories or characters like Bocchi. The story can be predictable and slow at times, but it’s still heartwarming, and the visuals are lovely. For fans of quiet, emotional fantasy worlds, this one’s worth checking out.
