The Demon Hunter 2

The show was good till Season 2 started. Then the donghua writer lost iq and common sense trying to copy Xinxia tropes. Donghua Screenplay - 3/10 Season 1 created an amazing world with the right stakes of the threat. Season 2 destroyed it in 2 episodes by a pointless ego and political survival game city. The plot of the show was about Demons vs Humans survival. Now it is a dark cultivation show where the stakes of human survival have been thrown into the water. They even copied the high level people gaming using geniuses as pawns/chips on board. In Season 2, demons are a side dish. Their drama breaks every ounce of common sense. Also a top demon city with selfish protectors has 0 attacks in the season. The MC is just human villain slayer now. Demons are like oregano sprinkles. As usual the novel is much better than the adaptation. Direction - 3/10 Fake Drama > Hard logic world - Donghua director Random buffs and nerfs to characters as per demand. Emotions born out of stupid decisions. Power greed with no use and serious lack of demons. Animation - 8/10 Only saving grace of the season. Great visuals and fight scenes. Every fight is enjoyable and eye candy. This is aestehtic poop in high definition. Characters - 4/10 MC and his spirit aside, rest of the characters are poor. All characters built up before season 2 gone down the drain. Now there are lot of usual trope rich/family brats who will do everything other their job - slaying demons. Cowards acting as genius and given authority to kill civilians as well. Most of the new characters are all shallow and brain dead sheep. Even the decent ones have low personality. You know the writing is bad when a donkey/mule is the smartest character in their role.

The story is about fighting against demons, which, alongside its beautifully martial battles, also carries a mysterious and philosophical narrative. The main character faces various choices that are challenging even for the viewer. Although the donghua has great potential to become even more beautiful. Because the original novel is much better, more engaging, and filled with dialogues that are at times wise, and at other times emotional, unfortunately, many events, dialogues, and even aspects of the characters’ identities have been removed from the donghua. As a result, some parts of the story may feel confusing to viewers who haven’t read the novel. I hope these issues will be considered in the next season.

Season 2 continues its mediocre story telling from season 1. For example our protagonist is injured and yet he participated on contest/tournament? If the Demon threat is so real why focus so much time trying to take each other down? When some of the characters went into 'super saiyan mode' they had pointy hair... which looked silly. While I am not that impressed by over the top action using magic, I did like one fight in season 2 where the protagonist fought an older woman with mostly martial arts. The woman used 'Scorpion Stance'. When pure martial art is used without the flashy abilities its good. There are some cool moments but you need patience to get there as you have to go through slop which takes up much of the show. The side story about the primordial story spirit, Yaunbao was good. The show does dome things with colors during fight scenes that I haven't seen before and it looks impressive. As the season 2 ended, it got better and maybe I might check out season 3 if it ever comes out.

The Demon Hunter (Cang Yuan Tu) Season 2 is a disappointing case of wasted potential. Season 1 created a dark and fascinating world, where humanity struggled to survive against demons, where Divine Masters followed conflicting ideologies, and where Meng Chuan’s goal of protecting ordinary people gave the story a clear direction. Season 2 mostly replaces these strengths with endless genius competitions, political games, inconsistent character decisions, and increasingly arbitrary power-ups, while the demon threat itself becomes background noise. Meng Chuan is not a developing protagonist so much as a plot device, and the drama often originates from dubious choices rather than believable conflict. The animation and fight choreography are still exceptional and are easily the season’s greatest strength, but beautiful visuals cannot make up for a story that seems to have lost sight of its own identity. Season 2 isn't bad at the end of the day. It's just disappointing. Because underneath all of the flash and spectacle are the remnants of what could've been really special.
