(Preliminary review) What began as a compelling tale of assassination, betrayal, and subterfuge dwindled into a lackadaisical journey of melodrama, angst, and leisure. I'd peg the story's fall-off happening around episode 4. Most of the major plot points are planted by then, but then each take a backseat. "A backseat to what?" you may ask. Nonsense and filler, mostly. A character or relationship here or there may progress marginally, but nothing of consequence really happens. My dopamine receptors aren't frayed to the point of only allowing my experience of gratification to occur from action; that said, when I come for a show premised on significant action, I seek action. Of action, there is very little. There is, however, an abundance of dialogue that is largely superfluous. Much of it I yawned my way through. Among the latest batch of isekai, this seemed the most promising, particularly thanks to the animation quality/style. While the animation seems consistently above-average, it's not enough for me to favor this show above others. The one that seems to stand out this season is A Wild Last Boss Appeared! Which, speaking of, is a good reference that highlights the intrigue of characters who aren't one-dimensional. Not a single character in this show has surprised me, which is unfortunate. While preliminary, I do not think the final episode will raise my overall view of this going from a "fine" 6 to a "good" 7. (Final review) Edit: Well... wow. My expectations were low, but holy hell. The finale's climax recycled the opening fight and the MC went through a pseudo-revelation about killing being rough. It was genuinely bad, almost to the extent of bumping my overall rating down 2 numbers to a 4. Instead, I'll settle with giving it an "average" 5 as there are some redeeming qualities. I will change my recommendation from "mixed feelings" to "not recommended" because this show disappoints on its primary promises and then some. Again, wow. Talk about an awful way to conclude a promising show.

Now that the last episode is finally out, I feel like I have to say something about this anime. So, if you’re planning on watching it and aren’t sure whether it’s worth your time — definitely WATCH it. I honestly can’t believe how underrated this anime is. Firstly, unlike other isekai anime I’ve watched over the years, I’ve never come across anything quite like this. Summoning students into another world is the closest thing to Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari, but here we actually get a bit more of the main character’s backstory (at times it even reminded me of Solo Leveling). The art is beautiful — every detail of the scenery stands out — the animation is very solid, and the characters are incredibly pretty, possibly some of the prettiest I’ve seen in anime (especially long-haired characters, but also Akira). Oh, Saran, my beloved... Speaking of characters, none of the “good guys” annoyed or bothered me, which is honestly rare. Each character has distinct traits, and many of them undergo meaningful character development. The relationship between the two main characters is one of the stronger aspects of the show, and Akira himself stands out from the usual protagonist archetype (written by men). To me, he feels like a character written by a woman (I’m not actually sure about the author’s gender), and I absolutely loved that. To clarify, Akira is generally very indifferent, but at times he clearly shows how much he cares about other people, especially Amelia. He isn’t perverted at all, which again reminds me a bit of Naofumi. However, unlike Naofumi, he openly shows his affection and love for the FL. Secondly, there were many unexpected twists that I genuinely didn’t see coming. I won’t go into detail because I don’t want to spoil anything — this is an anime best experienced without prior knowledge. Furthermore, the fan service was minimal and nowhere near the level seen in many other popular (overhyped) anime that came out recently. The world-building stands out as a solid element of the anime. While it may not be groundbreaking, the division of countries and how each of them has its own king and princess is clearly presented and interesting. Also, the Demon Lord and the idea that demons can be both good and bad add some depth to the story. With the last episode of the first season, this anime truly gave me exactly what I needed. This is the first review I felt compelled to write because I was genuinely surprised by how many negative reactions this anime received. After reading other reviews,I noticed that people who don't recommend this anime have either never watched anything worse or have questionable taste, whereas I enjoyed it so much that I binge-watched the entire series without hesitation. All in all, this anime is not a masterpiece, but it’s great to watch when you’re in the mood for something enjoyable and easy to follow, with lots of interesting characters and a level of meaningful dialogue that’s often missing in other anime (communication is key!). Overall, it’s easily an 8/10 anime.

The Good: - The show is visually pretty. It's not STUNNING but there are some very good visuals to keep it entertaining. - The world is reasonably well established compared to a lot of isekai. - The hero is not alone in a vacuum, there are other people from his world that are brought in with him and they are actually effective. The bad: - The story is the weakest part, it's so paint by numbers cliche that it is almost a parody. - Things move a little too fast. The studio and director clearly had a specific point they wanted to reach and they ran to get there. - Most of the build up to big events and fights leaves them feeling anticlimactic. Overall the show is just kind of there. It takes itself too seriously to be funny but does not lean into the dirty world it is built in. Do I think I will ever find myself wanting to watch the series again? No. Will mean I stop someone else from watching it? Also no. Want something from this same year that is funnier? Let this Grieving Soul Retire. Something that actually embraces the characters and their grit and issues? Clevantess.

This anime is exactly what's wrong with modern anime. It's just good enough for you to kinda start to see some potential, but then very quickly the cracks start to show and you realize that it was written probably by ChatGPT or some AI software. There is absolutely no logic that is consistently applied in this show. One minute the character is this angry, edgy teen willing to do whatever it takes to get revenge for the commander. The next minute he's kind of this sappy love interest that doesn't really have any edge to him and doesn't have the heart to really follow through with his threats. This show tried to be everything at once and absolutely failed. When you're watching this show, the biggest thing you get is that it doesn't know what it wants to be. It tries to be everything to everybody. It has the generic isekai tropes like finding an elf girl in a dungeon and saving her. Of course she ends up becoming his love interest because of course she does. And the black overcoat, black short hairstyle, and close combat style that we've all come to associate with Kirito, Eminence in Shadow and every other generic isekai main character. This entire genre is what is wrong with modern anime. Zero creativity, chat GPT, AI productions that have no originality whatsoever.

I create a MAL account solely to diss on this garbage anime due to how much of a bait-and-switch it is. ''My Status as an __Assassin__ Obviously Exceeds the Hero's'' Solid title, makes you think the MC will assassinate people. Great start, just at the beginning he's killing people and doing his assassination's duties. From the looks of it, I was extremely excited thinking it would be a great animated series about a serious assassin with a goal ( or not, don't care ). But the MC is a more like a white-liberal woman than an assassin- 11 episodes in and he has killed NOBODY, NOT A SINGLE SOUL. Keep in mind that we have a CLEAR AND CONCISE villain at the current plot which is just PLAIN EVIL and it's been 4 episodes he's been deciding if he should kill the OBVIOUS VILLAIN or not. Genuinely feels like a liberal woman. If this was real life he would likely vote to liberate incarcerated criminals because ''they are just a victim of society''. Also the ''I'm an assassin I must be stealthy'' schtick has completely fallen off just after a few episodes, he's know recognized by the entire town and kingdom as assassin XD what is the point even. Complete bait-and-switch anime. Only thing that makes it worth watching is the cute demon-king Daughter and the Elf. That demon-cat companion of his is also insufferable, btw. DO NOT WATCH THIS ANIME IF YOU EXPECT WHAT YOU ARE PROBABLY EXPECTING FROM THE TITLE AND FIRST EPISODE If you want a GREAT assassin anime- perhaps the best one, genuinely great and extremely concise from episode 1 to 12, watch ''The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat'' instead, it won't disappoint you.

I would love for there to be a sequel since I feel like there is so much left to uncover. The characters are their own people, with unique personalities that don't seem copy-pasted and all the emotional moments actually have weight because of this. When there is a serious scene/conflict between multiple characters, it comes naturally and not because it is some plot point envisioned by the storyteller. The characters actually develop throughout the story, and even if the MC is (for all intents and purposes) OP, there's a limiter like Mob Psycho 100 where he doesn't want to cross that else the darkness will consume him.

It's not as bad as everyone is pining it out to be. It does have some flaws and imperfections, that I won't deny, but it's still a pretty good show overall. While I do wish the concept of him being assassin was more forefront, rather than him just being a regular old isekai-ed adventurer with crazy power, it works just fine. Though I do feel the title of this series is a little misleading/irrelevant as he has practically nothing to do with the Hero. Animation/Art was suuuuper clean throughout the entire cour. Looked really good all the way through. No problems on this end, it was solid. Plot wise for this series, it's your typical isekai fantasy show. Nothing really remarkable that makes it stand out from other Isekai's in particular. I do feel the characters of this though stood out to me quite a bit. They aren't 2-dimensional, and have distinct personalities. That was definitely a plus with this show had. (especially his familiar. love that cat). Overall, It's alright. You won't be missing anything big you decide to not watch this, but it's not something I'd consider a waste of time. So I'd recommend it!

Fake Morality - Central to the theme of this story is the common fake morality where the Hero sees virtue in letting the Villain live, while not giving much thought to the countless lives that the Villain will destroy in the future. Then the Hero falsely concludes that if he were to take the Villain's life that the hero would become no better than the Villain. Most of the second half of the season revolved around this moral struggle. And while I won't reveal what choice is made, it's clear that any future seasons will also revolve around this false premise. To me this does not make an interesting story. If you are like me and will watch almost any Isekai then you might find some frustrating enjoyment.

I'm surprised that this thing got so many "Not Recommended"s. For a modern "random slop" long title isekai anime, this is straight gas. The characters don't feel one dimensional (Except the main villains lmao). The supposedly "fodder" heroes have their own motivations too, they don't just suddenly get used to the new world and go "nah we ball". MC's pretty stubborn about the whole loneliness thing, but his whole personality isn't just Gary "I'm sigma lone wolf, now join my harem 🗿🗿🗿" Stu. He actually has inner conflicts. He does try to communicate it. The story overall dives quite a bit into the idea of "revenge", how worthwhile will it actually be, whether it really should be done, what can be done instead, etc. The animation here is nice, sound is nice, not much to comment on. yea, pretty decent, these people giving the not recommended review just have way too high of a standard for judging cliche isekai i swear.

I like isekai, the genre is so big for those with big brain to write about it but when given to people who are brainless we got this. Personally i like isekai where ONLY MC is transport to the other world, then they can really focus on the MC but when they transport the whole class but also write a mediocre characters for all of them then what is the point? This is another goody two shoes MC where he will always follow the standard 'good' or 'right' thing to do, no killing, no punching (evil)women, no 'ending' a troublesome villain for the sake of I AM A GOOD MC that didnt take life, and what happen next? The writer need to add stupid plots to cover it up. MOST villains will end up dying to another one, or some accident happen then they die, MC hands are clean. typical. The name ASSASSIN mean killer itself, but this MC cant do shtt, when i was watching this anime everytime he made a threat i laugh so hard, i mean yeah boi that is all empty talk, you cant do that but he seem to cut someone that doesnt look like human like nothing, such a racist guy, they too have family and friends too you know. I dont know why japanese keep printing garbage anime in these few years, among 100 maybe not even 5 is good, and if some of you say "IF ITS NOOT GOOD THEN DONT WATCH", listen you PoS, if you didnt watch till end how do you know if it is good or not? some anime redeem itself at the very end episode, but most dont. in short everything is terrible in this anime except the animation, you can see for yourself or you can just skip it, i really recommend you to skip it, it is a waste of time. rate 2/10, that +1 for animation only.

"Weird twisted philosphy" The vibe which author tried to show is ulterly poor for this kind of theme and title . i would liked the show if they dealt with the idea of showing too much inner conflicts thoughts , this literally ruined my experience . Decent animation , cool frame work , character designs for some characters was weird . I liked the ost though , only the + point in whole show . Sunrise is my fav studio but this time they butchered adaptation completely , skipping too many arcs and explaination moments . It's better to read instead of watching . The set up had a promise but what can i say now , such a complete waste . Not even trash isekai consumer gonna like this . A spineless assassin for definately , not recommended .

My god can he being anymore of a whiny MC? "Waah waah, I don't want to kill anyone, even if doing so protects me, those I care about, and prevents a war from breaking out, indirectly saving thousands!" -MC Bro's literally a parody of a progressive virtue signaller who chooses inaction to avoid having sad feelings instead of doing what is necessary. They'd rather do nothing and let everything around them go to shit because they have the mental temperament of a child (but only when it suits the plot) 4/10 art and animation were good, but man, the writing for MC is absolute garbage.

I really liked this show I would give it a 7.5 if possible but settled with an 8 because its really pretty to look at. This show first and foremost is beautiful, animated in an early 90's style with very nice looking CGI incorporated sparingly. The world was very pretty and felt very expansive with stunning visuals showing large cityscapes and environments. Not even to mention character design cause wow everyone was pretty to look at even your status quo black hair protag. What I can say is that this show suffers from being status quo in the fact its a silly isekai where there is an overpowered MC in a videogame fantasy world. While I'll admit these aren't the greatest I will say this show did garbage concepts really well. My biggest complaint was that the MC didn't have to sacrifice anything or work for his over powered abilities but this is well made up for in the actual characterization of the MC. It's easy for these generic isekai's to have a copy and paste black hair mc that is good at everything with no personal struggles. Meanwhile I was politely suprised to see that this MC not only had a brain but also would be clouded by emotions sometimes.

“My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s” – One-Sentence Review: A series with strong early promise that ultimately wastes its potential through rushed pacing, weak characterization, and a mediocre ending—yet remains decently watchable despite its many flaws. Full Review: This anime starts off surprisingly strong. The first four episodes do an excellent job setting expectations, establishing the world, and clearly presenting the protagonist’s mindset and beliefs. During this opening stretch, the series genuinely feels like it’s building toward becoming a solid, above-average isekai. The tone is darker, the setup is interesting, and the characters feel like they could grow into something meaningful. Unfortunately, once those initial episodes end, the quality begins to noticeably decline. The most glaring issue is pacing. The remaining eight episodes attempt to squeeze far too much plot into a very limited runtime. Because of this, character development is rushed, emotional moments fail to land, and important story beats feel more like bullet points than fully realized events. At the same time, the anime oddly wastes a significant amount of time on long conversations that don’t meaningfully contribute to the plot or character growth. Roughly 60% of each of the episodes contain extended dialogue scenes that either add very little or could have conveyed the same information in half the time. This creates a strange contradiction where the story feels rushed overall, yet individual episodes often feel padded, as if scenes exist simply to fill the episode length rather than serve the narrative. This pacing problem directly damages the characterization. The anime does a genuinely good job early on of establishing the protagonist’s beliefs and personality, giving viewers a solid understanding of who he is and how he approaches the world. However, after the first four episodes, meaningful character growth becomes scarce. When development does occur, it often feels underwhelming or ineffective for several reasons. In some cases, side characters don’t receive enough screen time for viewers to become invested in them. In others, characters are written so generically—relying heavily on familiar tropes—that they fail to feel like real individuals. And even when the story tries to develop its characters, the rushed pacing pushes these moments forward so quickly that they never have time to resonate emotionally. Amelia stands out as the biggest disappointment in this regard. Despite receiving a decent amount of screen time, her development—especially her romantic progression with Akira—feels extremely rushed. Their relationship advances in sudden jumps, with little buildup or meaningful interaction to justify it. Rather than feeling like a natural romantic development, it comes across as a series of quick moments that abruptly push them closer together. As a result, the romance lacks emotional weight, and the viewer is given little reason to feel invested in their relationship. This issue isn’t limited to Amelia, but she exemplifies the problem better than any other character in the series. Because of all this, the anime feels like a collection of missed opportunities. The foundation laid in the first four episodes suggests something that could have been genuinely great, but the sharp drop in quality afterward makes that potential painfully obvious. While I did still find enjoyment in watching the series and wouldn’t call it outright bad, it’s difficult to recommend to most people. Many viewers may feel frustrated or disappointed once they realize how much the anime’s quality and character writing decline as it progresses, and some may even drop it entirely because of that contrast. 7/10, Whether you’ll enjoy this anime largely depends on how much the pacing issues, rushed character development, and wasted potential bother you. It’s a generally good and watchable series with clear strengths—but also with flaws significant enough to prevent it from reaching what it so clearly could have been.

# Pretty isn't enough This anime is the perfect illustration why visuals aren't even enough to make it into a decent anime. And in this specific case, the storytelling is so bad it reached a new depth of abysmal nonsense. The anime in its whole feels rushed, to the point you could almost filled entire episodes in-between episodes, and yet the story *still* lacks any urgency to catch its audience with some suspense or well-thought motivation. What you get here is an appalling clone of a famous Solo Leveling necromancer/assassin in an appalling clone of Arifureta world and backgrounds, with pretty visuals ... and no substance. In all honesty, I would have love to love this anime. But it took quite a bit of my willpower to not just drop it (quite a few times) and finish it, which is a very BAD sign if any, especially when you're just aiming for entertainment and not expecting for a masterpiece. So to fail even when my expectations were this pretty low ... I can't recommand this anime to anyone, unless you have time to spare and nothing better to watch. But that would be a pity. Really. If you're still bent to watch this ... I don't envy you.

I've watched Soooooo much anime that hardly any sparks my interest these days. This isekai isn't your typical vibe, it has a good twist. The art is sharp and beautiful with a unique use of darker color shades often. The story, being the twist is great imo. Although this is action packed and the story could of developed through more action progression through its entirety, given its 12 episodes long it does diverge enough to story build outside of the main characters and action. People don't seem to like this but I'm just fine with it. If anything the only problem I've seen is that it is only 12 episodes. That limitation makes it hard for the anime review elites to rate this high imo. They may review everything they watch, with story long written reviews however I've watched well over 16,000 episodes of anime. My typical rating system is more of a 5-10 point system and any anime that makes me feel I have to immediately watch the next episode gains my favor highly. This anime sticks out, it's been awhile since I've given a 10 but to me this is a 10. Trust me and go watch it. You might not think it's a 10 given it's only twelve episodes long therefore there's limited time for it to make an impact HOWEVER you will indeed like it!

Pro’s the animation isn’t to bad and the characters designs themselves looked nice Con’s it’s just really boring, story is basic and has no real depth, there’s nothing to keep you watching other than maybe just a desire no to leave an anime unfinished. It just got utterly boring really quickly, even as someone who’s seen pretty much all of the trash isekai anime’s because I do enjoy them as back ground noise, some of them even turned out to be really good and rewatchable. I would put this one below most of them. The climax of the entire anime was boring, it lost all its story and just kind of turned into filler. The anime itself isn’t horrible, it just had no real substance. He’s an assassin which I thought would be a cool concept but it quickly just kind of dissolved into killing any suspense or plot. By episode 5-6 I was honestly just bored and wanted to watch something else. Which is really difficult for me I almost never drop an anime but this one just didn’t have anything to grab attention.

I think the show's producers understand that ppl watch at least 3 episodes of an anime before deciding to drop or continue. Somehow, those first 3 episodes got me to watch this entire series even tho the end was garbage. I should have known by the incredibly lame title that this show would be equally lame, but dangit those first episodes set up a decent story I was interested in, but they definitely pulled a bait & switch after that. PRO -I didn't label this section "PROS" because there's only on pro and that's the animation is good, which is another reason why I probably watched it all. CONS -Lame title -Bland MC whose inner monologue is half the show and mostly bland and sometimes just stupid. I think the height of stupidity is when he is mulling over killing a guy who traffic slaves and killed/gloats over killing the one guy the MC admires. As he has a hard time justifying assassinating him (mind you he's an ASSASSIN), he thinks to himself that if he ever makes his way back home after killing this guy, he couldn't live with his mom and sister... ok dude. Japan hangs ppl for capital punishment. -Bait & switch from a great action anime to a meandering teenage love story with all the same tired anime tropes -The MC agonizes over killing a complete garbage of a person, but had no problem leaving his old classmates to fend for themselves and prove they are strong. His classmates ultimate sin: they weren't nice to him in high school. Mind you, not mean to him, they just mostly ignored him. This anime was bad.

Honestly, I think it’s unfair to compare this anime to other works. Every writer has their own storytelling style. Many viewers go into this expecting nonstop killing, edgy moments, and excessive violence just because the word assassin is in the title. In reality, the story carries a clear moral message and offers something different to shōnen fans: the protagonist doesn’t always have to be the strongest or the best. I liked the elf’s feelings toward the protagonist and the gentle, wholesome dynamic between them. The anime does feel rushed and somewhat messy in its pacing, but that’s understandable since the staff tried to adapt the original work into only 12 episodes. Considering this limitation, the result is decent. This anime isn’t nearly as bad as some people claim. Judging it negatively simply because it doesn’t match a fixed idea of what “assassins” should be like feels unfair.

Ladies and gentlemen, this review tries to be driven by the same engine that pushes every hero through an adventure against all odds. As if I were a generic isekai hero myself, I persevered until the very end in order to offer you my humble opinion about this show — one that, at first glance, presents itself as visually appealing and full of interesting vibes, such as an early close-up of Akira, our main character — with clear Cid Kagenou vibes from The Eminence in Shadow — but that, by the end of the journey, leaves you wondering how much self-love you must have to endure it until the very last episode. Was it worth it, Mr. Stark? That is what this review is about. TL;DR: This opinion is based exclusively on the anime. I have not read the manga or the light novel. Ansatsusha de Aru Ore no Status ga Yuusha yori mo Akiraka ni Tsuyoi no da ga (My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's), a.k.a. Sutetsuyo, or how to make an anime that looks appealing, has clear potential… and yet still ends up being painfully shallow. The good The animation and character designs are solid and visually appealing, especially when compared to the average quality of many current anime productions, where animation is often mediocre at best. The opening and ending are not bad, and the soundtrack (OST) does its job. The initial setup of the main character’s moral dilemma — which I will explore later — is interesting, valid, and has genuine philosophical potential. The bad On the other hand, the sound design (SFX) is uncomfortable at times: extremely abrupt fade-ins and fade-outs, and sound effects that feel like they belong in a PlayStation 1 game. The initial premise — introduced in the first episode — may be interesting, but it fades very quickly and soon becomes a shallow and boring narrative device, just like many other critical elements of the show. Among these problems, one of the biggest — if not the biggest — is the pacing. It feels rushed from the very beginning. Even without having read the original light novel, it is noticeable that the series tries to build tension and action from time to time, but whenever those moments finally arrive, they end almost instantly and without meaningful consequences. As a result, the action scenes are neither exciting nor memorable. The ugly The anime presents a moral and ethical conflict that keeps Akira in a constant state of inner tension for most of the series: “The burden of killing a man is a heavy one to bear.“ “My mother and little sister would be disappointed if I came home a killer.” “I think that people, even villains, have their own stories, and nobody’s allowed to end that for them’’ “If I stooped to murder… how would Amelia feel when she finds out?” This is a conflict with strong philosophical and reflective weight, and it clearly connects to a real and classic debate — deontology, identity, guilt, and vigilantism. Inviting the viewer to reflect on what killing truly implies, and on its personal and social consequences — especially in an era marked by growing insensitivity and lack of empathy — is not a pointless exercise at all. However, I believe the anime handles this conflict in such a superficial way that the psychological impact on the protagonist never becomes truly powerful. On top of that, many situations are constructed so that conflicts are resolved far too quickly for their own good. The central dilemma — “should I kill or not?” — has no deep consequences. There are no truly uncomfortable decisions, and there are no visible personal costs for Akira. Moreover, the pacing of the series only makes this problem worse. There are also many elements of the lore and the plot that simply do not make much sense. The series had a genuinely strong ethical conflict at its core, but it never dares to fully explore it. This is one of its biggest flaws: the potential to become something better is reduced to nothing more than a failed attempt. By the end, when the main character finally accepts that he must live and act according to the consequences of his final choice, it feels as if the story is only truly beginning at that point. Everything before seems to exist merely as context for both the characters and the protagonist’s internal struggle. Unfortunately, once you reach that moment, there is little motivation left to keep watching or to wait for a second season — especially if fundamental issues such as pacing and narrative development are not addressed. The series feels like a missed opportunity. I say this sadly, because it did not look bad at all at first, but from very early on and until its conclusion, the best word to describe the overall experience is simply: bland. The series is bland. It is not fun. Beyond the visuals, the music merely fulfills its function and is not memorable. The story and the action scenes feel anticlimactic. At best, you might remember some of the character designs, such as Amelia and Saran Mithray (with clear Saint Seiya vibes), or Yoru — as the main character would say: “I love cats.” This is a show that fails to satisfy both audiences: those looking for an overpowered protagonist (a typical isekai trope), and those searching for a more unconventional, mature, or reflective fantasy or isekai experience. Perhaps, if this is your first anime — or if you have watched very few — Sutetsuyo might catch your attention. Even so, I strongly recommend many other isekai series that are clearly better than this one. There are far more solid options in which to invest your time. The good: the technical aspects and the core idea behind the moral dilemma. The bad: pacing, sound design, and narrative development. The ugly: a serious moral conflict reduced to a superficial narrative device.
