Fanservice heavy but at the same time passionless. Fanservice 1: The characters are (Showa era) Kamen Rider fans, but that is a setup and set piece, and sometimes they go "Remember when KAMEN RIDER did THING in EPISODE", other times they repeat "I am Kamen Rider because I watched it as a child" and there's no depth or real love to the franchise, in character writing and in their world. At first it seemed like an interesting setting that would follow manchildren who can't properly fit in society due to their obsession, and could easily be otaku culture commentary, but instead it devolves into a battle shonen with KR as a backdrop simply. Monsters are real and there are people randomly superpowerful that can deal with them. All the pillars the series stands on are shallow for the sake of a story about middle-aged guys punching middle-aged guys while screaming like children television programs. It's not very clever and quite repetitive, but there are some human drama elements from a few support characters that actually are well done, so it's not completely braindead. When the series ends and the titular character's entire character "arc" really was only what happened in a flashback in Episode 1, it made me wish his story was moved around a bit or taken a bit slower. Felt like eating the strawberry first and swallowing it without chewing, in hindsight. Gekiko Kamen is a series that uses tokusatsu with respect and an insane love for the material, without limiting itself to just Kamen Rider and a single decade. Seeing both series side by side really highlights how the author of this series probably also is just a manchild (at most) or overtly nostalgic (at least) for what Kamen Rider was for him as a child, but without any love to continue watching Kamen Rider today or to expand that attention to all of tokusatsu. Fanservice 2: Every woman has enormous boobs, but there's no fetishism to how they're handled, there's nothing particularly sexy about them. It's huge boobs for huge boobs sake, since the author may be a manchild I can't tell if that's the limit of sexuality for him, or if they're huge because statistically it's more likely to be pleasant for viewers, but it annoys me to have such vapid perversion in a show. I want the real freaks to be out there showing their very specific fetishes. Get Kawaguchi Yuki in here to show how big, muscular women need to look like. It's not very good for what it tries to be, but the music is good, the humor at times is memorable and the animation isn't bad. It won't kill you to watch it, but for actually poignant commentary on being a tokusatsu freak, you're better served reading Gekiko Kamen than watching this.

Toujima Kun wants to be a Kamen Rider is one of the most over the top, action packed and utterly insane experiences I’ve had in recent years. Thanks to my experience with this show, I ended up getting into Kamen Rider and I’ll always be grateful for that. The 6 months that this show aired will always be special as every single episode was a roller coaster ride with laughs, great action and story that felt like a blast from the past. It’s not without its flaws, which I’ll touch on later, but I think if you’re a battle shonen or Toku fan, you’ll enjoy this. I’m new to this franchise so I can’t say it’s the best Kamen Rider story ever or anything, but I thought it was really good for the most part minus a few hiccups in the final third or so of the show. Ok, so this show is sort of a tale of 3 parts for me. The first half of the show is absolutely amazing. Some of the best fights of the year, Toujima meeting the other riders, learning the truth about shocker, kicking ass, episodes leaving off on cliffhangers that make you want more every week. It was amazing. I will never forget how hype the rider training tournament was. Then we hit a lull in the story after the first cour. Don’t get me wrong, I love Toujima and Ichiyou, but the training arc with them in the countryside dragged on a bit and it felt like we took ages to actually move on to the confrontation with Batman. There was a really good episode or two, but I think a lot of this could’ve been condensed. I definitely can see how the staff thought this was a good opportunity to develop the characters and give them some personality, which was needed for some, but I could’ve done with a few less episodes and more direct confrontation with shocker. That’s probably more of a criticism with the author himself than the anime staff, though, to be fair. I digress. The last few episodes really got this show back on the road and the last two in particular were awesome. Generally, I LOVE the characters in this series. It’s really cool how this is basically every nerd’s dream of growing up and actually becoming the superheroes you idolized as a kid. We all wanted to be power rangers or in this case, Kamen Riders, as kids and while most of us grew out of that, Toujima, Yuriko, Ichiyou and Mitsuba just doubled and tripled down until it became a reality. They’re all big ass kids and it’s funny as hell. Their chemistry is really good and they do truly feel like a proper found family by the end of the series. Each one brings their own unique ability to the team to help them in the fight against shocker. It’s also nice they all get their own mini arcs to have to confront their insecurities and grow stronger. I do think Toujima as a protagonist is pretty basic, I’ve heard complaints from long time KR fans that this series is as shallow a representation of the franchise as possible and as someone who’s new, I can’t deny that since I don’t have enough of a frame of reference, but I can see where they’d be coming from because the story and characters do feel a bit simple at times. Not the end of the world for me, though. Still more good than bad on that front. There’s another complaint from long term fans about this series being misogynistic and that’s one that’s a little nuanced. At the start of this series, I thought the female characters were handled very well. Yes, the author clearly sexualized the hell out of the girls’ designs by giving them G cup boobs, the director likes his ass and tits shots, etc.,but Tackle was at least kicking ass and being the strongest in the group. Yukarisu was a valuable asset to the riders and supported Mitsuba. I can live with the weird sexualization as long as that’s not ALL that the women characters have going for them. Then.. after the second cour that went downhill. Tackle got done dirty, Yukarisu becomes a literal punching bag for guys and there’s this weird trend of women just being beat up by guys in the show, not the sort of 1-2 punch and you’re out kinda thing either, like genuinely stomped out and just done dirty. It’s weird. 1 or 2 times I could deal with, but then it became a pattern. I’m not sure if this is because the second half of the show focused on Bat Man whose whole thing is being the embodiment of misogyny or what, but between that and the whole idol gf thing, it got a bit weird to me. Luckily, we got enough hype moments and some character development episodes that let me overlook this. The action in this series is CRAZY. It doesn’t have the sakuga of fellow Saturday seasonal Fate Strange Fake, but I think the fights are some of the best of the season. The sound design, the direction, the intensity to the punches and the way every single fight in here feels like a brutal slugfest is really cool. Tackle’s fight in the rider tournament and Toujima v Ichiyou are my faves I think. Despite the story being a little shallow at times, some misogyny and pacing issues, I overall had a lot of fun watching this, it made me watch Shin Kamen Rider and begin to dip my toes into the franchise. Once I found out Sawano did the OP for the latest season, it was a no brainer to tap in. I’ll miss watching this and always remember how hype those first few months were. Toujima Rider gets 8 rider kicks out of 10

The true hidden gem ... What do you can do with a good history, good directors and low budget ? Tojima wants be a kamen rider is the answer ! The anime is about Tojima, maybe a delusional character that wants to be Kamen Rider, everyone really thinks he is crazy, but for 40 years he trained everyday for it . But after he gets old, he is on the verge of giving up of his dream. History (10) It´s a wholesome history, Tojima looks like just a delusional character that is finally trying to be normal, but something is about to change. He and other "dilusional" friends start a new adventure to save maybe the world ? Characters (10) I really love almost every character of this one, Tojima with his unbreakble will, Yuriko trying to not end like tackle, Nakao fighint for his friends and love, the 3 Shimamura family and Yukarisu being who they are. All of them are funny, serius, and fucking incredible when fighting. Music (10) The theme music are few, but they are memorable, every time you listen riderrrr riderrrrr you got goosbumps. Animation (7) That´s the weak point of this anime, you can see the low budget of the animation, but using old astetics and animations of the first kamen rider years, they hid pretty well the problem, you will see it only if you pay close attention. Overall (10) A must watch anime,a ton of funny moments, a ton of holy sh** moments but only 24 eps.

There are fans, there are super fans and then Kamen Rider fans. And you don´t mess with the Kamen Rider fans! This series has that much intense borderline insanity lore that it could be considered rivaling "JoJo" or "Baki" at times. If that is for your liking then this series is made for you. Under any circumstances DO NOT take it too seriously or you might feel uncomfortable. Realize that somethings are made just for the heck of it, have plenty of popcorn and drinks and leave your brain somewhere for rest. Now enjoy! Our main character Toujima wants to be a Kamen Rider, just like the one in those old TV-shows back in the day. Spending nearly all of his life training to become this awesome hero he finally realizes something; he might never reach his goal. Middle-aged, having no friends and owning nothing but a small TV to rewatch his beloved show, he is nearly ready to give up. But faith is funny, for suddenly Kamen Riders greatest nemesis "The Shocker" and his gang of combatants are causing havoc around his neighbourhood! Not only does he finally get the long awaited chance to become his icon, he meets a lot of "Kamen Rider" loving like minded individuals, all ready to fight the forces of evil! It is time... for TRANSFORMATION (on a budget)! "Toujima wants to be a Kamen Rider" offers everything a rough-necked 80´s action movie fan and old-school training loving testosterone heavy breathing anime watcher will love. The show can put some hair on your chest, pump up your biceps and make you yell your lungs out. This series definetly tries not to be for everyone, don´t make that mistake. Men are big and hit hard, women are big breasted and hit harder, and absolutely no-one is giving an inch! Blood, sweat and oh-so-much tears are released in this one you just have to accept the passion that hits you like a freight train and almost breaks your screen! If deeper analyzing is needed, then perhaps focus on the fact that there are all kinds of fans and they are all around us, successfully infiltraiting in our society day by day. We have fans who don´t know how to let go of something they love and even restrick themselves from the world to dedicate themselves for that very obsession. Fans, who show deep love for their "target of fandom", but can atleast work with the world. They might have problems talking about anything else but their passion though for being social might not be their forte. Then we have fans who can operate normally in every day life. They are managers, teachers even gansters and they are having normal lives and are capable of normal every day conversations without having - too much - obsession over their interests. These people are in control of their love and not the other way around. Over the top bare knuckle action, big muscular men, very big breasted women, random humour, Kamen Rider... if you can find yourself loving something that feels both "modern" and "80´s" at the same time, this is for you. Note! This series might make you wanna go to the gym and do a fullbody workout... twice. You have been warned. Or encouraged!

A genuine masterpiece. One of the greatest things I've laid my eyes on and also my 2nd favorite comedy (after The Fable). I can't put into words how fun it was watching this show. The story is crazy, Very unique, hilarious and sometimes a little tragic. The characters are 100% the best part of the show. Each character felt perfect, even their backstories and desires. Were they outlandish? yes. Entertaining? YES. It is really hard to put into words how funny some of the scenes were. It isn't some insanely detailed story but a good one still. Each character had peaks and lows, making them even better. They really gave the original kamen rider its flowers. I really liked how they made the shockers. The characters mostly all being over 20 made it more unique compared to the average shows nowadays. It almost felt refreshing. The animation was good, nothing exceptional like frieren or jjk but still good. The hype moments in this show had me jumping on my seat at times. ratings: Story - 8.3/10 characters - 9.6/10 the comedy - 10/10 animation - 8/10 As for any comedy show, don't try to take it too seriously or you won't enjoy it as much.

One of the better anime of this season (well, both?) and for none of the reasons you might think. There's a whole lot to unpack here, but please, just let me try: Our heroes are just regular day people with a spirit for justice, all because of how important a show about heroes was to them as a kid. Not only that, they all have their reasons WHY they loved those characters in the show. At first glance it may look like some past-their-prime wannabes, but they take it seriously, and it really shows. Also, it's only MILDLY ageist. My dudes, 36 is seriously prime age for men as far as muscle building goes. But they treat him like he should be in a nursing home at first. Laugh if you want, but you will be that age sooner than you think. Anyways, it's a lot more respectful after that, and we have a motley crew of individuals with disparate backgrounds that all team up for the same love. Even better is not only the comedy, but the animation is better than just serviceable at it's EVERY episode. The music is spot on as well, and hits at all the right moments, though the OP and ED are perfect as well. Further on the ED: it's really just so watchable. It's so cute. I do have one issue with the balancing, it can be quiet and loud like if you had a game and turned SFX to maximum and everything else to 30. I do feel like they did a great job with timing and all just not with balancing. It's a little bit over the top but the artist is so good at leaving us bread crumbs to follow in regards to so so so many mysteries about the characters. I'm not gonna make you huff my farts here, the characters ARE the show and I mean ALL of them. The artist was clear in their delivery that there really isn't a main character, time is spent equally on everyone. This is clearly someone who loves their work and it shows. Instead of season 3 trillion of "that time I slimed a slime but i was perfect and OP", give us a couple more of this. Characters: 9.5/10 Story: 8.5/10 Music/Sound: 7.5/10 Animation: 8.5/10 Biased Enjoyment: fun as hell/10 give it a watch.

Does your back hurt? Do you enjoy yelling at kids to get off your lawn? Is the Fox News logo permanently burned into the corner of your TV? If you answered yes to any of the above, seek help. You are what the kids nowadays call a "Boomer" But, not all hope is lost for you. You have "Toujima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider" to look forward to, because this show is made for you. Quite simply, this show is a nostalgia trip for everyone who wants to pretend they actually grew up in the age of Tokusatsu and Power Rangers instead of being the kid whose parents were deeply into it and introduced you to it. If you've never watched the original series or series like Ultraman, some of the appeal may be lost on you. But that surprisingly doesn't detract from how fun and great the show is as your entry point to the expansive world of Kamen Rider. Personally I had never watched Kamen Rider before this show, but again the premise is purposefully simple enough that even children can understand whats going on, that by Episode 3 you are essentially caught up to what the original Kamen Rider is all about and who the heroes and villains are. If the premise is lost on you even after getting that far, maybe its time for you to ask your doctor about Life Alert and Assisted Living because the show does not deviate from the simplistic premise of the original show. The only difference is that like Kelly down the hall who keeps asking the nurses what's for lunch that day for the fifth time..... at 2am, the protagonist is mildly delusional and living in his own reality wanting to be like Kamen Rider. That is the opening premise of the show and it really leans into it for its comedy, but I will say the show does not stagnate on that premise and fully explores other ideas and blossoms into what I can only describe as a masterpiece of storytelling and character-driven narrative while maintaining the trappings and energy of Tokusatsu shows. As my friend and I watched this show, we were theorizing on where the plot was going, who were the strongest characters, and what the hell was going to happen next. It was legitimately the closest I have gotten to reliving the nostalgia of watching Saturday morning cartoons, except for adults, in a long time and we probably won't get another show like this for a long while. In addition, the soundtrack was produced by Teddyloid, whom I had not heard from since the MV Me!Me!Me! was released, with every track being a complete banger. This is one of few shows where having a pair of headphones with really good bass extension or a speaker/home theater set-up that can really pump out sound elevates the show and scenes from great to absolute cinema. Audio is phenomenally done from just quality and design to ramping up fights to the level and hype you had watching Power Rangers when you were 5yrs old. The only other show that comes even close to the same quality in terms of audio and music is a crappy isekai harem show I watched called "I Left My A-Rank Party to Help My Former Students Reach the Dungeon Depths!", which might sound like I am saying the audio is bad but it is actually really well-designed. If you've got a pair of nice open-back headphones, this show is absolute treat to listen to. This is a very easy recommendation to almost anyone who wants a more esoteric show that actually has some depth and thought put into it, despite its generally simple and mindless concept. If you want a show that encapsulates everything that is weird and awesome about anime, this show is a pure distillation of it and really scratches that unique show itch. 9/10, absolute cinema Final Thoughts: There are no women in this show who are below a G-cup, and no there are no exceptions to this rule Yes, this is a necessary detail. No, I have no shame in pointing this out Yes, I did get mad at my friend for pointing this out to me halfway through the series because I was distracted in every scene thereafter by this Yes, you needed to know this because if I had to have this pointed out to me, YOU needed to have this pointed out to you Hope this helps your viewing experience

II don’t usually write review but this show is a masterpiece I love it it gets better every episode and is one of the best anime’s I have seen in years in every way please give us a second season I swear I will buy any merchandise and blu ray releases for the show if you do. The story is just super fun but I can’t give to much info as it will ruin the fun just know it’s a good time and it gets more interesting and fun every episode as new characters are introduced each with their own likeable personalities so far I have liked most of the characters introduced each in their own way and I love the core cast to death this show needs to get way more recognition and word of mouth cause it deserves nothing less than the best.

As an ex-Ultraman, ex-sentai, and ex-kamen rider fan, I am so pleased with the series. This show brought back so many memories when I started being a fan. I'm happy I checked this show out. I truly am. How did I find this? Kito senpai on YouTube. He promoted it on his short-form video, and it got me curious. Appealing (Why did I get into the anime?) As a massive fan back in the day, I don't think I want to skip this show. I had skipped many Kamen Rider/Power Ranger shows in the past, but I don't want to skip this one. Platform Bahamut Anime Crazy (Taiwan), Bilibili Global (South Asia & Southeast Asia), Crunchyroll, and Vidio (Still baffles me that this service bought anime license, I love it though). The review; Plot/Story Imagine this. You are a kid watching your favorite cringe show, such as Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, Ultraman, or any live-action show that has multiple adults acting like little kids fighting each other. I called it cringe because, as an adult now, I finally felt the embarrassment from all the stupid acts I did with my friends back in middle school. BUT! Instead of just rubbing it off as an embarrassment in the past, this series took it onto a whole other level. They train. They grind. And most importantly, they don't hesitate to imitate the act of Kamen Rider. Tojima has reached his 40's, and he is buffed as hell from the years of training. When he thought he wasted his years of grind, he met with others who were like him. Not only that, but he also met with the real enemy of Kamen Rider, the Shocker. Overall, the plot made me realize, "Heh, I should've been turning this thought into a real training like Tojima." Now, I waste my time as I reach 25 this year. Haiyaaaa Anyway, I'm just gonna say the premise is awesome. It engaged me in a slow-burning story about a worthy "fake" hero. There isn't much life lesson or a relatable moment in the show, but it still captured that cringeworthy adult acting to the core. Not only that, it's anime. I can finally feel less cringe watching it, knowing they are not a real person doing the act of heroism while posing nonsense. Character Great roster. So goofy. Knowing that these people are all adults and still act like children is so funny. I love the gap moe too, especially with the villain in the first half of the show. Weirdly, I like this show more than the real deal. It might be because it's anime. It's not real. The character acting felt less cringeworthy and more goofy funny. OST/SFX Absolute cinema. This section might as well be a section of galze of Teddyloid. Man, this guy is something else. He did the OP. He did the ED. He did 80% of the OST in the anime. He built differently. The guy might as well release the full album from this show. No joke, every time I saw the credits, he always appeared, and my mind was like, "Does he even rest?" If you can't already tell, yes, I love this guy and his works a lot. Animation Now, I've talked about this in my review for "May I Ask for One Final Thing?" This is a part of three projects that Lidenfilms made in Fall 2025. You might want to check my review of that, but basically, to summarize, this project was special. I mean, let's be honest here, they invite the OG actor of the Live-Action series to promote the show. That was already huge marketing. I don't think they want to let down the fans. Therefore, the animation becomes great. The sheer pressure of the OG material was the push needed for this anime to shine, and I'm happy that it has such a unique take on animation, unlike MIAfOFT, where the animation was so stiff. VA Great acting! No, wait, scratch that! IT WAS AWESOME! I can't believe how these VAs do the series justice. They act so accurately to the Live-Action actors and actresses. I love it! The conclusion; Enjoyable I waited every Sunday morning to watch this. OF COURSE IT'S ENJOYABLE. I love every bit of it. Worthable YES! Especially you are a massive fan of Kamen Rider. In fact, I would say you'll miss out if you don't watch it. Delivery Fantastic! Not as amazing as the shows that aired this season (Winter 2026), but from Fall 2025, it was among some of the greatest. OG Sauce Don't! I saw it, and they were right. The Manga looks like MP100 or OPM by One Sensei. I have to say this. To get into the manga, please prepare yourself. Watch the series first and then read it, but lower your expectations, as I also am going to do so when I get around to reading the OG material. (Felt like yesterday I did this to read the OG manga of OPM and MP100) Gratitude Never thought I would say this, but thanks, Vidio, for providing this show on your app. I'm glad I didn't cancel my subscription. I get to watch this without any trouble. Overall 9.7/10 I have to specify! I recommend this to fans of Kamen Rider or adjacent (PR, UM, etc.). I don't know if the casual watchers are going to like it or not. They might cringe watching this. 🤣

Most passion filled anime in a while. From the first few episodes it might be make or break for viewers, but if given an open minded go, this has immense heart to it. Sure it might not be the most relatable, sure it's over the top, sure the story sometimes are wacky, but if nothing at all, this anime is raw. The characters, emotions, ridiculousness, action, animation, it all feels raw and refreshing. I'm not going to spoill anything here so I'll make it short. The premise isn't exactly original, but the story is. The characters are great, but some might've needed more screen time. Music is amazing, animations are amazing (not jjk but better than most action anime this year, crazy cause I did not expect anything near as good as this), the motivations are compelling, the pacing is spectacullar, and the morals taught is good. The worst thing about this anime is the lack humor induced comedy (I'd take the comedy similar to gintama with a lot less slapstick comedy). Some are hit or miss, others rely on wacky over the topness which could've been executed better. Thw best thing about this anime is the power scalling. There aren't any "Where did this powee come from" or "So they can do that now". I think it was handled well and the climax is very very satisfying. GG's, I originally would give this a 8.5/10, but with the ending AND because I think more people should watch and support this type of story, 10/10.

Tips for new writers is saying to avoid unnecessary openers but I think that I need to at least tell you that I'm the EXACT target audience for this show. I grew up in japan, watching kamen rider on TV (heisei era), and still rewatch it to this day. So I should be heavily biased to liking it. The first couple of episodes, I was sure I've stumbled on a golden mine. Diamond even. I cried in the first episode, dude. It was absolutely amazing. The second, and the third was also very very good. I was sure I would rate it 10/10 on MAL as a Masterpiece. However... I don't know what happened on the 4th episode and beyond. Every single aspect drops significantly. I kept watching, but it got worse and worse. Like a completely different team, that absolutely hates the guts of this show, took charge of it. Or worse, like, an AI made the rest of the episodes. The plot, the animation, everything felt so deliberately bad and slow. What happened?? Every episode was dragging me after that. I kept watching, hoping it would get better, but it only got worse. There are unnatural pauses, scenes so unnecessarily slow. The pacing was thrown out the window and the developments were all over the place. Like that lamen idol. She came from nowhere, and didn't go anywhere. What is she even there for? I don't know. You know that thing about narrative/foreshadowing that if a gun is shown, it must be fired 3 chapters later or something? It doesn't happens in this anime, the opposite happens. There are 20 unfired weird alien guns laying everywhere. So I would recommend you watch the first 4 episodes. (Until episode 8 is still watchable. Not terrible but way less enjoyable) And drop it as soon as you can after that.

It's a good shounen show... It's actually a good fucking shounen show! In the ocean of trashy, fake-ass, bullshit shounens, there actually was one that was good. The show fully commits to it's own brand of realism. Is there some mysterious evil organisation? Yes. Do actual monsters exist? Yeah, they do, if you can believe that. But all the rest? Some old-ass sensei that teaches protagonists his doubly-triple-hades-spin-kick-laser-cannon punch before dying to a chosen monster that's meant to be the nemesis? Heroes awakening their gear secundo or other retarded bullshit when being pummeled by the villain that has a plot armor for 2 more minutes, until it's protagonists turn to fuck him up? BIG FAT NO. Instead you get a cast of delusional washouts who took hero shows at face value and never grew out of it, just pumping iron instead. They get embarassed about wearing their trashy masks, their families roll with shame at having to associate with them. And it actually feels natural, even when supernatural enters the fray. The only legitimate drawback that comes to my mind is that the main antagonist was caricaturized into too much of a cartoon villain. Otherwise, they really hit all the notes right, which is even funnier because the show directly bases it's premise on the campiest, trashiest 'shounen' genre available, the live action superhero shows. TL;DR, if you at all enjoy shows with fighting in them, I would recommend you check this show out.

Watching Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider was a rare and refreshing experience that reminded me why I love pop culture. In an era of mass-produced content, this series stands out as a genuine passion project. You can feel the life experience and the soul of the creators throughout the 24 episodes, making it a solid, addictive, and deeply human journey. It’s the kind of art made with love and dedication that truly stays with you. The show's greatest strength is how it handles its characters. It builds a narrative that makes you genuinely care for every member of its diverse cast through unpredictable and heartwarming dynamics. Whether it’s the main lead or the most unlikely supporting roles, the writing gives them a surprising depth that constantly catches you off guard. It maintains a respectful "hyper-focus" on its niche, but its emotional core is universal. The climax of the series is a masterclass in how creative conviction can surpass a massive budget. It proves that a true hero doesn’t need high-end CGI to be legendary; it uses the emotional weight built throughout the season to create a transcendental impact. Seeing the "spirit" of the hero embodied through something as simple as a plastic mask was breathtaking. It’s a powerful reminder that a sincere tribute can reach the level of the industry's greatest creators. This is an impeccable season that respects the fans and has left an eternal mark on my heart. 10/10.

If your soul needs reigniting as to what it means to be hopeful for your childish dreams, this is it this is the anime you need. this anime sets out to do one job and one job only to make us believe that ANYONE can be kamen rider. its not trying to give you complicated backstories, its not trying to be funny, its all genuine human interaction where every character has a simple drive in their lives and its just so happens that what drives their souls are their inspiration that is kamen rider. Even if you dont know jack about kamen rider, its a universal human experience to fight through your doubts and keep on believing your dreams and striving for it and this anime captures that feeling and runs with it to the end. there is nothing else cuz nothing else matters its all about what it means to be kamen rider if i got depressed again i will watch this again

A labor of love for Kamen Rider fans, very much hype and awesome, I would recommend to watch this 100%, made me cry, made me hype up and overall left me feeling wanting for more. The music OST was awesome overall, it was a mix of techno and dubstep, it really supported the characters feelings and emotions overall throughout the scenes, the animation is top notch and compared to the manga they really beautified the anime so much more it's worth a full watch! The characters were mostly strong and there was a lot of blood spilled, but that was also supported by training scenes where you saw the characters get even a little stronger through the full season, they did have their flaws at time for example a certain character being too much of a coward even though she wanted to fight along the team, but overall I'd say it was really well-rounded.

(Spanish review on my list) Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider. For those unfamiliar, Kamen Riders are a kind of "Power Rangers" very popular in Japan. The series presents the idea of a 40-year-old man with a severely distorted view of reality who wants to be a superhero. One day, a group of thieves disguise themselves as the villains from that series to rob a convenience store, and the delusional forty-something fights them off, beating them senseless. One might think, "Well, it's going to be a series about a guy going through a crisis, dealing with his dream with dark humor, and a storyline where our delusional protagonist meets other people who help him become a hero in real life..." But no, soon after, it turns out that monsters do exist and operate in the shadows. Our protagonist then meets more equally mentally unstable people, and they begin fighting these enemies in real life, turning the series into more of an action show with absurd humor that only further fuels the schizophrenia of all the characters... Not bad, though. Overall, it's entertaining action, with supporting characters who contribute significantly, enjoyable fights to watch, and well-developed villains. Despite being 24 episodes, it's somewhat repetitive (literally, it's just watching the protagonists use the same techniques and punches with rather bizarre expressions), but it doesn't feel tedious. As for negative points: The characters don't seem to mature, and despite being older, they all act like children without thinking things through and considering other ways they could help stop the villains (like, I don't know, seeking police support or more powerful people to help them). The fanservice is excessive. ALL the women have a huge "plot," although all the protagonists also have a six-pack and are frequently shirtless. The problem is that it's constant fanservice, and while they don't overuse sexual jokes, it's always present. Finally, it's a series for Kamen Rider fans. It has many nods and references to the original series that you don't understand. Furthermore, it doesn't end; it's left unfinished, and any series that's left incomplete or only serves to promote other publications always loses points... All things considered, it's not bad. It doesn't leave any message, it's not an exceptional comedy, but it's not bad either. It's easy entertainment that does the job.

Toujima is just great. It is the anime that made me feel like a literal kid watching cartoons...Screw that, I never felt this way watching cartoons back in the day. This thing made me feel way too excited in almost every single episode, it made me stand up in front of the monitor, it made me boost the volume up to 130%. Listen, the premise is interesting, but the execution is insanely, incredibly, amazingly excellent. I think that because the author is a veteran mangaka and isn't constrained by appealing to the masses, he and the animation directors managed to convey the long lost essence of classic anime. The characters are way over the top, but you can really feel for them; they have very distinct personalities and they all get to have their very own arc and developments that pay off BIG TIME. That makes them amazing. You'll never feel bored watching them struggle to become kamen riders. You have all kinds of fan service, you have the original Kamen Rider opening rehearsed, you have it remixed, you have the original Shocker, the original combatants, two of the original monsters. You have beautiful chicks with big tits wrestling and bleeding all the time. You have dudes at their physical peak screaming their hearts out with a face full of blood and tears. Do you really need anything else? TeddyLoid outdid himself this time around, it is just an amazing soundtrack, every single track is a banger, frfr lowkey no cap. Extremely fitting. And the sound design??? Insane earrapes and distortion to sell the illusion of the punches, kicks and all the grapples. My ears are bleeding but they are really happy. Cheers for all the animators who poured their hearts into this, you managed to make me feel exactly what you intended to. Passionate adults trying to fulfill their dreams and getting a chance to do so. That is Toujima wants to be a Kamen Rider.

Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider is an intriguing show. For the uninitiated, this is an older otaku spin of everyone's favorite yearly live action Toei hero show for the children, Kamen Rider, one half of the Super Hero Time hour of henshin hero special effects. Though, its younger sibling, Super Sentai, beat it to this type of show with Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger over a decade ago much to beloved fanfare, big plus in being a live action show as well. But this show got Teddyloid producing a ton of Kamen Rider music bangers. So for me personally, Tojima had a lot to live up to as an anime type of that kind of show since anime IS a more wider and blind audience, since this got officially subbed. And the first episode is like a straight on banger all over social media when it aired, so what about what happens after? This is an absurd juvenile show about a bunch of people are in arrested development cause of their nostalgia of Showa Kamen Rider and finding community through that and eventually getting involved in fighting Shocker themsleves. It also is sexed up to the max, every girl is a busty babe and they will use every means to show off the goods. But also it understands how sex is used as a tool for fascism since youd have to be a bad Kamen Rider thing if you aren't following through Shotaro Ishinomori's work of the bugmanwho fights fascism. But also theres a pretty heavy handed Rocky reference for all the Uncs to know the middle aged men are indeed middle aged men. But also despite the first two characters introduced are eventually depicted as equals, Tojima gets the cool training montage and Yuriko gets a student ogling her for an uncomfortable amount of time while she herself is inspired by the first woman hero in the franchise, Tackle. Like its mixed messages. Some of it is because of the original material, but also stuff like the amount of Yuriko ogling at the start was added and a bit extended while removing her training montage from the manga. But as the crew grows and the initial insanity slows down for what this tale of delusion is all about, its starts hitting on being a show about people inspired by their childhood heroes, it hits the exact same way Akibaranger did all those years ago even if it stumbles to get there. But stumbling while Teddyloid ost is playing in the background is more like dancing, no? I think every track is in my playlist and I'm playing it One More Time, One More Time, One More Time every time they come into rotation. The Teddyloid ver of Lets Go!! Rider Kick is forever iconic. The tracks at least nail it from first play that you Wanna Be Rider. And if you're Rider, you're doing a Rider Kick in your chunnibiyo delusion. And Tojima lands that Rider Kick after jumping from this banger dance floor. Ultimately the way this show executed itself makes it for a very specific taste as personally even though I like it I'd rather take someone down the rabbit hole of Kamen Rider W for Fuuto PI or just straight up Sentai Red Isekai (and not even getting into the Ultra side of things with Triggers Gridman stuff). But if you're the type of person who really enjoys juvenile absurd things like GTO, Tojima is that guy whether you're into tokusatsu or not.

Toujima Kun wants to be a Kamen Rider was definitely a fun, comedy and action packed anime. I laughed at the silly jokes and it always hit. The director did a really good job. The scenes flow really great and at the time of jokes it looks amazing. The faces they make, OMG, its so funny. The story was kind of predictable but still enjoyable. The art style is amazing. The characters have their flaws and strengths and how they overcome it is really great. And the way they get into their characters is so funny lol. I think you'll like this anime a lot. I am writing a review because i liked it so much. I dont usually bother writing reviews.
