Pfew! Finally a title where I don't need to go all out. I really needed the break after the last one. Visuals. A very specific art style. Meh designs (with some downright horrible). Interesting colour palette. Subpar cinematography and animation. Very lousy fight choreography (I'll get back to it). Horrendous cg. Unless it was used specifically because those things were meant to look hideous, then it was a masterpiece decision. So meh visuals. Audio. Meh sound design. Nothing stands out (in a good way), both for tracks and volume. The OP 1 was good (The song, the visuals). It felt like it vibed with the anime. ED 1, horrible. OP1, lower than meh? ED 2 meh. VA was meh. I feel like it was a directing problem, not the actors. Too many and very consistent mistakes in regards of how the scenes should be acted. The yelling gag never was and never will it be funny. The editing was bad, obviously. Both because it tried to be manipulative, and the way the scenes were "chopped". If you don't have the visuals and the audio, its kinda hard. I'm assuming there was a different person doing that, not the director. The pacing was good, question mark? The world-building is minimal. The soft magic system (thats what this is) is a joke. While it sounds interesting, we find out that the powers can change based on its wielder's perception about it. It makes it feel like its something versatile, that will make you wonder. That fact is exactly the problem: its a double-edged sword. The writer can modify a scene as he wished to and later say "No, no. His powers changed, its totally possible". No consistency? No, ty. Now on to the good stuff. So. This anime is sht. The story is full of plot holes, plot contrivances and plot devices. The writing is a joke. A quick example, because it is still fresh. Our MC: "so, King Arthur can you predict the future?". The king "I'm not here to chitchat". A FEW SECONDS LATER (7): *proceeds with telling him anyway* "the fact of the matter is..." I laughed. I couldn't believe it. Where was I? Oh, the writing is a joke. Yeah. From the story itself, to the cheesy & cringe dialogue. The comedy is reduces to the "modern" cliche of yelling while looking stoic. All the characters, both good and bad, have the same mentality, same logic for their action: the authors. Someone says something and the other will proceed as if what it was said is perfectly true and makes a lot of sense. Even the hook "you gotta be a scum", everyone is saying it. Speaking of, because I dunno where else to put it, all that inner monologue???? Exhausting. The was some character development for some of the cast, none for Jougamine and MC, arguably the ones this story is wrapped around. Not even the "evil people" did better. Its ok to be evil, its ok to be one-dimensional. Its ok to be... something. Well, not here. They went for the "wait, they have layers" approach. Fk your layers. As I was saying, some of the cast have good arc, and they are lovable anyway. The only meh fact about them is the exaggeration of their quirks. "She's this way. See? She is doing it again. And again. And again. Its her thing, man". And it got tiresome after a while. Repeating myself: the soft magic system? Their powers? As a display, their ranges, what crazy powers might be out there? Yeah, interesting. But the logic and how it works? A joke. "It depends on you, how you see and understand them. And because your understanding can change, your powers can change". And the logic behind their actions in regards of using their powers and how to counter the opponent's? Sometimes it works (as in its interesting the way he thinks), sometimes it doesn't. The comedy was ok. Generally, it was funny, apart from the yelling bits. That was sht. I can't stand the "ghostbusters 2016" type of humour. Dammit, I forgot another point I wanted talking about. I really can't remember. Well, I could finish it up anyway. So, everything meh, but the way the plot was handled makes this anime poor. Funny thing, ok, more of them. I started watching this anime, realised it was sht, yet still hitting "next". Later I was trying to remember what happened and I couldn't remember all the details. Its the definition of "empty calories". The last few minutes left me baffled multiple times. A character is there, something is said and I was like "wait, when did it all happened? Oh, he lied? Wait. How EXACTLY was that specific scene rounded up? It was in the previous episode, yet I really can't remember". I think even the studio knew people wont remember sht. They do a "where are they now" montage while playing the ED. A woman appears, and I was like "who the fk is SHE? Oh, wait, is that whats her name? I totally forgot she existed...." and so on and so forth. So, it gets a rating of ...4. Hmm, 4? Yeah, I think thats about right. For a very few decent stuff. Not recommended. Maybe someone will enjoy it, a lot of freakz out there *evil laugh*. Its a fast-paced dragging anime, if that even makes sense. You will watch it, it'll feel like there might be something there and hit next, and yet you won't remember much afterwords. But it also has exhausting long inner monologues and yelling comedy. And no, going meta "see? its funny because he tells her to stop yelling by yelling", is not funny. Knowing the problems but making fun about them and still continue doing it is not good writing. Probably its working better as a source, those monologues feel too fit for that. But that means the anime was a failure because they failed to adapt the title to a new media format. And that exactly what we are reviewing on this page: the anime, not its sauce. Have a lovely day.

From the same author as Sentenced to Be a Hero, and with a lot of the same themes and ideas, but compacted to tell a complete story in 24 episodes. Those themes and ideas feel much more refined here than in Sentenced, which is in itself a fantastic series, but the two protagonists of this show feel like the two protagonists of Sentenced with their characterization and themes honed to a mirror shine. That said, it can't be left unsaid that the anime production looks very cheap, and the fairly average direction doesn't do that production much favors in that regard. The character writing goes a long way to make up for the visual shortcomings, but there's no denying the show looks ROUGH at times. Rocket Shokai is clearly an author who enjoys writing bleak, miserable worlds populated by gruff, cynical characters who are always trying their damned best to make their own lives and sometimes the world around them just a little bit better, and then plopping the most idealistic, sunny disposition girl smack dab into the center of those worlds. It's a great formula, and the juxtaposition between the cynical mentor Yashiro, who secretly wants to be an idealistic sort who does the right thing but is burdened with experience in this messed up world, and the always hyper positive Jogamine, who will look at even the ugliest evil of the world with a smile on her face, makes for a fun and deeply compelling exploration of this classic formula. Every character is either likeable or at least interesting, even characters that initially seem throwaway, and the show's idealistic nature despite its seemingly cynical outlook is a refreshing take in an industry populated by so many grimdark tryhards. Also Yashiro is CORRECT that food and card games are two of the greatest things that make life worth living.

Most people are familiar with "Sentenced to Be a Hero" which is a light novel series written by Rocket Shoukai, which aired in Winter 2026. At the same time, this show, "Scum of the Brave" debuted. The most notable thing is the production values are much lower here. Which, alone with it being an action anime, can be a deal breaker. However, if you are willing to give it a chance, this show can be shown to be a hidden gem. Many shows like My Hero Academia talk about what it means to be a hero. In the title, we Scum and Brave as Brave can be equivalent to being a hero. As the title points out to Yashiro because he is scum, but as the show goes on, he clearly has heroic categories. As a protagonist, Yashiro fits the anti-hero mold. Taking that into effect, how his 3 students play off him is really well done. The first is Aki Jougamine, who is the very idealistic hero who is a pacifist. Won't get into spoilers, but she is played to such an extreme where it works for what the story wants. As the story can be brutal. It makes it work both for her characterization and comedy. Also, Yashiro's connection to her is a bit complicated, and for story reasons, he holds the most notable connection to her. The 2nd is Saera Kashiwagi Pendragon, who is easily the most level-headed of the girls. But she has pressure as she is the daughter of Arthur Pendragon. Who is the strongest brave and leader of the Round Table Knights. With her family issues, she has the clearest issues to overcome. He is probably the one who helps showcase Yashiro's soft side as a teacher. Lastly is Yukine Indou who is the most skilled in combat between the 3, but intellectually she is the lowest. It's through her that we can see Yashiro has good skills guiding his students. Yukine is one of the 3 where it is clear to see the improvement throughout the story. The worldbuilding is simple but gets the job done. Like in many hero shows, the characters have superpowers. In here, characters get access to that through the use of E3. The interesting part is how the show makes sure the audience knows there is a clear downside. As there is a clear risk to it, which makes it more interesting. Seeing how these different abilities interact with each other is pretty good. Yashiro is very knowledgeable and good on his feet. Now, despite the animation being limited. The anime itself is quite engaging. The fights themselves leave quite the impact despite the animation issues. The choreography is strong, which honestly leads me to mean the storyboards for this anime are good. It just lacks in resources. Sound direction and voice direction are well done. Overall, Scum of the Brave is quite the refreshing story in the amount of hero stories we have. It isn't afraid to get dark when it needs to. Also, like Yashiro you can have heroic traits while being scum, to put it lightly. As Yashiro guides the girls, you can see some of those heroic traits inside of him, even if his personality is a mixed bag. The reason I leave this as mixed feelings is that for some people, the lack of animation resources can be a deal breaker. But if you can look past that, you can have any anime that is well worth your time.

" HERO VS VILLAIN " This anime follows same trope of heroes vs villains only difference is that story follows crime theme , syndicate and turf wars . There are people known as braves who kills criminals known as dark lords for money . The beginning eps were solid , got little dim in middle and got pace again in ending . 24 eps anime are kinda rare these days , This is the only reason I started watching this and hopefully not regretted . The mc is a stoic person but his personality got changed after meeting some schooling braves and this was the turning point for me for not giving a higher score . He deliberately followed pacifist ideals in ending and made serious mistakes even though he is a first rate killer . In my opinion there isn't any point in forgiving criminals because they gonna comeback and gonna do much more damage again . Despite of having some drawbacks it's still watchable and enjoyable . Sword fighting people might find this more exciting because it covers some good fundamentals . I won't mind seeing a another season .

Interesting premise and lovely character interactions. Bonus points for having a closed ending. The way characters use their power is very interesting. The best parts of the anime are easily the protag thinking mid-fight how to deal with the enemy. Also love how anyone introduced can just die. Most of the show consists of great interactions and interesting use of powers, but there are some strange storytelling decisions. The plot wants you to think about the main "mystery", but it's hard to take it seriously when non-sensical things are done to progress the story. One that happens early on, despite getting invitations to meet someone directly, the protagonist decided to risk his life and enter guns blazing to this person's heavily guarded party. He acted super logical until this happened, so that genuinely made no sense. The protagonist is a walking contradiction. If he sat for a moment to sort out his thoughts he would explode. I spoke positively of character interactions, but by the final episodes the interactions genuinely felt like "let's get this story over with." But again, the good makes out most of the show. As for a last neutral point, I thought this anime was "Sentenced to be a Hero" but if it was better, and if the protagonist actually had a personality. Turns out it's by the same author The story here is better so I'm surprised by the difference in MAL scores. In conclusion, very interesting anime, it is worth watching.

Gonna keep this short as I'm getting too old for long drawn out reviews; this is THE underrated anime of the season, and surprisingly with 2 whole cours, unlike certain gundam anime. Really nice retro, bright colored art style and an actually engaging story with *gasp*, ACTUAL character development? Yes the budget is pretty low but again, everything else helps keep you engaged towards the end, and the funny contrast of hyper-violence with the cute girls and cartoony art style. Yes, this is by the same author as "Sentenced to be a hero" but has a very different, contemporary, bounty hunter/crime story feel to it, but as a result, it IS about "murder-hobo dad with his cute "daughters". Please give it a try! There's still plenty of room for another season but it's unfortunately uncertain with how much this series flew under the radar, with "Sentenced to be a Hero" and other series like Re Zero taking all the spotlight.

It has an interesting story and I think it worths following. The arts are cool too and I liked the colors and designs, but the animation, it's really bad. It's probably produced on low budget, considering it's either slideshow or CGI, for most parts. I guess you would enjoy the manga more, if you read manga. The ending seemed rushed and out of place, they came to an conclusion without developing the story at all. It was expected but it wasn't logical, they solved a mystery providing a correct solution but with weird reasoning. Despite all that I enjoyed watching this, I would say it's an average anime, it's not boring it's not bad, but it's not that good neither.

Potential potential potential. All I see is just so much potential. There's so many ideas that could have made this one of the easiest 10s ever if they just condensed and focused on those unique ideas. Or ofc if they had a season 2 to continue it on, but that's never happening. The characters are so interesting and have such potential for even more dynamics between them all if explored and developed. Unfortunately there is little development between the characters, and the ones that do are actually the more side characters!! It's such a pain because the fundamental story is there, the idea is there, but the actual developments are not. Because of that, it's just an average good watch. What a missed opportunity...
