I was kind of debating whether or not I wanted to write something about this show because it really pissed me the hell off and has some very creepy misogynistic undertones, but I decided I’d just give a quick little review with my thoughts. I think this is a remnant of a past time when these sort of stories were the norm, I.e shy abuse victim gets saved by hot guy who fixes all her problems, happily ever after. The romance here is so boring, forced and stale. Like no, I don’t think a woman’s entire value should be determined by her getting married to a demon, no I don’t think it’s healthy for a woman to have to abandon everything that makes her her in order to be a good wife to a dude she just met? No I don’t care how hot that guy is, his toxic possessiveness isn’t attractive. This is basically classic abuse sympathy porn where we see a character treated horribly and then saved by a white knight and they expect us to fall for the white knight and think their ship is the cutest thing in the world when in reality.. it just feels fake af and forced. The entire concept of human x ogre marriage in this show is just based on this misogynistic premise that all a woman’s problems will be solved by marrying a man. It’s gross. Now, putting aside the subpar romance and you actually get an entertaining plot with the parents and sister, who are irredeemably evil(well, kinda..) which even though it annoyed me because they’re all just so dumb, I did enjoy because it’s nice to get purely evil characters in anime. I don’t want people getting redeemed, show me true evil. They did that, and the parents being the cause of every issue in the show all because they refused to get a good job of their own made for some must watch television. Them being so horrible is the only reason I remotely supported the main ship here because I just wanted the MC to get out of the house and be happy. That only does so much for the subpar writing of reiya and yuzu’s relationship, though. Some people clearly liked it and if that’s you, more power to you. I couldn’t get with it because every interaction felt forced cringe because reiya really only fell for her due to some pre ordained attraction.. don’t get me started on her best friend’s relationship either which started by stalking?? Karin and the parents basically carried this hard for me and Karin’s backstory at the end of the show changed my opinion a LITTLE on her. I just can’t say much else about this show because there’s not much worth talking about here other than how uncomfortable the ship is and how angry I was at the parents. Most people don’t need to have kids idgaf. If you want some Cinderella story wish fulfillment with abuse sympathy farming, this is the watch for you. If you want an actual good shoujo romance this season, check out uchioto or the seinen Kaiju girl. Onihana gets 5/10

I was not expecting this, I was not expecting to like it like I did, I thought I knew what this would be and yet it surprised me. The synopsis says it's a Cinderella story, I read that as 'generic romance' what I got was not that and for me, the romance story was secondary. For me the centre of this story, the real heart of it is abuse and how it comes in all forms. Yuzu comes from an abusive, unloving family, it is easy to say that her parents only pay attention to her younger sister Karin, but that ignores the scope of things, her parents are neglectful of Yuzu as they are selfish, they pay attention to Karin because they see her as a tool to get the lifestyle they want. It is a mistake to think they care about Karin, they don't, and that is obvious early on, as soon as Yuzu has value Karin is the one who gets rejected by them. In a way Karin is also a victim of abuse by her parents, they created the person she has become through their behaviour and treatment of her, she was told to cast aside Yuzu and that only she is important and it is only important that she be a Demon's Bride, they don't love her, they don't show her affection, much in the way you don't love or show affection towards your cash card. They only keep Karin happy and pay attention to her because they don't want to lose access to that cash card. Karin's relationship with Youta is also an abusive one, we see how unhealthy unquestionable love is, and how she in turn abuses the relationship, manipulating Youta with her coercive behaviour. Youta is not blameless, he has the power to stand up to Karin, he spoiled her and helped shape her behaviour, turning her into the toxic self-centred person that she has become, he lacks restraint and yet form the society he's from that is dangerous, he hasn't told Karin that she needs to also learn restraint which would help her with regards the world she is about to enter. The fuse is set The trigger point is Yuzu's birthday, as usual her family get her nothing, her Grandparents however get her a dress. Later that day Karin finds it and she wants it because "how dare Yuzu get something when Karin didn't" she's the centre of attention, she's special, she gets to have what she wants and Yuzu doesn't mater, so she wants this. Yuzu stands up for herself, she doesn't give in, and when the dress is ripped she does what no one else has been willing to do, she gives her a slap Youta shows his lack of restraint by burning Yuzu's arm and she leaves the house knowing it is not a home and she does not want to go back there. (she is of cause then found by Reiya, but that is all fluff) This is the end of episode 1, a lot has happened here, Yuzu is finding the strength she needs to stand up for herself and to leave the abusive home life, and Karin's whole world is starting to crack. For Karin no one has stood up to her, she's always got what she wanted, so for her sister who she sees as beneath her and has been taught is insignificant to be the one to stand up to her and deny her what she wants and be defiant towards her, it upsets all that she knows and she can not deal with it. Everything spirals from here We see characters start to get their comeuppance Reiya and Yuzu's Grandparents give her the support that she has needed and the love that she has missed growing up As for Karin, she sees her worth diminishing as her parents begin to view Yuzu as more valuable, and acts in the only way she knows how. You'll notice I never talked about the romance between Yuzu and Reiya, and that is because it is the most uninteresting part of the whole series. It is essentially the standard plot of the ice cold prince falling for the female MC who is then overwhelmed by it all. It's not special it can stay in the background for me it is simply there to help Yuzu gain confidence and grow as a character. Then there is the worldbuilding, the Demon Society, for me this is really strong, it is something I could have spent a lot more time with and enjoyed watching it develop a lot more of, I would gladly have spent more time with the Heads of the different families and go more into the inter-clan politics, Nadeshiko stole her scenes and seemed like an intriguing character. The relationship with Nyankichi and Toko is also a strong point, it provides a window into how things work, into how Brides work, into Demon Society, and they aid Yuzu with her problems and relationship concerns. And that brings me to talking about the characters because they are really good, really strong and have a lot of depth, most are well developed and given nuance, there are some exceptions, Reiya and Yuzu's parents are lacking a lot of depth and development, the parents are just money grubbing scumbags and aren't given any depth beyond that or given any nuance. As for Reiya, he has two modes, cold and ruthless with everyone that isn't Yuzu, and madly in love and overly affectionate / possessive when it comes to Yuzu. We're told that Yuzu has changed him, but we don't really see that, if we saw that softening of his edges when she's not around, then we could believe it. There is so much that is good here, and as someone who likes it when bad people get their comeuppance, this felt good on the karma front. As a drama with a supernatural fantasy twist it is great and I would love to score it higher, as a romance, that is the aspect where it is (for me) lacking and doesn't quite connect

This show got me aggravated enough that I felt compelled to make a review to write down my thoughts. The banishment plotline that's been pretty widespread in a lot of recent animes is not something I'm very fond of. Banishment -> gets strong -> jealous old party attacks the protagonist -> protagonist beats them. Usually, the more the overall plot leans into the revenge of the old banishers, the worse the story becomes. Unfortunately, Oni no Hanayome seems to lean heavily into the formula for the whole story. I know it's a Shoujo anime, but the parallels cannot be ignored. The protagonist, Yuzu, is unappreciated in the family. She leaves the house. Her sister delivers her belongings and hopes she doesn't come back. She meets the super powerful demon Reiya and becomes chosen as his bride. Learning the abuse, Reiya punishes her family for mistreating her. Yuzu's sister, now jealous of Yuzu, tries to get back at her. This basically goes on for the whole 12 episodes. I can let these kind of plots slide when they take up just a fraction of the story. However, they don't seem to move on from this until the end. Next up is how the "brides" are chosen in this universe. When demons see their destined bride, they just fall helplessly in love for no reason. Nothing needs to be done by the bride, the demon just loves them the moment they see their brides. In other stories where the protagonist gets married off to someone strong and powerful, they still need to properly build the romance between the couple. In here, it's just given to her. All the bride needs to do is accept. This removes any connection the viewer can feel towards the couple's romance as the feelings aren't earned. This also extends to the cheap revenge plot, as nothing is actually done by Yuzu, everything is handled by Reiya and his family. With every episode I watched, I was hoping for something in the story that could save this show a bit. Yuzu basically did nothing the whole show, only being dragged by the plot of being hated by her sister and getting saved by Reiya. She gets one development of finally cutting off her family, but that's all there is. Most of her purpose on screen is to wallow in sadness, so the viewers can feel happy seeing Reiya comfort her and punish her family. One good thing of note is Yuzu's family's backstory. It shows how her sister became the way she is and cements the fact that her parents are irredeemable. That part was basically the part where I was enjoying myself the most. I advise anyone to only watch this anime if you want to see cheap pity bait and revenge plots.

I think that the story and the characters had a lot of potential but was not very well developed. The anime is very beautiful and the characters have nice designs and personalities, but they weren't well explored. The main couple did not have chemistry and I didn't really feel their love for each other. The story have a lot of holes that were not explained or showed, specialy at the end and some very important characters were put aside. The plot was very predictable and some characters were very dumb. I also think that the world building was lacking regarding the relation of humans and Ayakashis.

Ultimately there is not much positive to say about this show. The animation is passable for a shoujo of this budget range. The main romance is ultimately slop targeted specifically at me (arranged marraige, learning to touch each other, physical contact but not being pressured into sex too directly) The core worldbuilding and narrative is deeply social conservative allowing a reactionary clan system to go completely unchallenged and ultimately be praised. Side charecters are undeveloped with a significant amount of time being spent on arcs which go nowhere. In particulr ar there is a focus on the female lead's sister which attempts to humanize her but remains too trapped in the tropes of the genre to do this effectively. ultimately I cannot imagine a reason to watch this show unless but many aspects of it's production are average and I was not miserable watching it I will give it a 5/10. I will not be checking out the manga.

This anime has such mind-boggling sequences that I’m at a loss for words. Built around the concept of Cinderella being rescued by Prince Charming, the show feels like it was made specifically to infuriate feminists or "feminazis" As for the romance: under normal circumstances, a romantic relationship between two people shouldn't just be rushed or glossed over; it needs to be developed meticulously. Yet, in this anime, there isn't even a shred of romance to speak of. Some guy randomly tells a crying girl, "You're my bride" and essentially harasses her. Thank God it doesn't go any further than that (look at the state of things when *that's* what we're grateful for). Naturally, their subsequent relationship continues to feel completely forced. :) The characters are morons, too. For instance, if the female lead is suffering so much at home, why doesn't she just fucking leave? She used to work, so she had the means. The maids don't even question why the girl's shirt is burnt at first. Karin and her family act like pre-programmed robots. However, the fact that Karin and her family are purely evil makes the anime slightly more bearable. You find yourself wanting bad things, like torture, to happen to them, which gives you a bit more motivation to keep watching. Neither the Oni clan nor the Fox clan treats them with any real respect, either. It’s obvious what needs to be done to them, but (unfortunately) we can't exactly spell it out here. lol Honestly, you’d have more fun watching construction work—Italian-style—than watching this.

Metaphorically, I can best compare “The Ogre’s Bride” to a sandwich, one where the bread is pretty good, but the filling leaves something to be desired. The beginning of this show was pretty crazy, and the cliffhangers they were dropping during the last three episodes had me, admittedly, hooked, but the middle was a whole lot of nothing burger. The description for this show being “a Japanese-style ayakashi Cinderella story” is pretty accurate in that Yuzu doesn’t have a whole lot of character or agency, and her immediate family is so bad to her that it is pretty comical. As such, I feel like this is the type of show where, had I watched it in middle school, I would have really eaten it up (and the fact that this is included in a stack called “14 year old type of romance” is really sending me), but as an adult, it just leaves a lot to be desired. I wanted Yuzu to stand up for herself more; I wanted Reiya to be less overbearing; I wanted the parents and sister to just be more… normal. But as it is, it’s fine and certainly not the worst romance I’ve watched.

A 2026 anime based on the light novel written by Kureha, this 12-episode adaptation was animated by Colored Pencil Animation Japan, distributed by Crunchyroll, and falls under the fantasy romanca genre. The story follows Yuzu, a girl mistreated by her family who only has eyes for her younger sister. In a world where ayakashi peacefully coexist with humans, the sister is the "bride" of a fox spirit, bringing honor and wealth to the household. Following yet another abuse, hurting and heartbroken, Yuzu runs away from home and wanders aimlessly through the city. There, she is found by Reiya, the head of the most powerful ayakashi family, who drops a bombshell revelation: she is his bride. In my opinion, this is one of those titles that, fueled by passionate fan love, ends up catching the eye of viewers who aren't really the target audience. Swept up in the hype, they dive in and often end up deeply disappointed, mostly because this anime caters to a much more specific demographic than typical shojo. The animations are good, and I actually liked the pacing for this story. The background music is appropriate, leaning heavily into the dark romance vibe during "romantic" moments. The opening theme, "Hitokoto" by ClariS, and the ending, "Shinboshi" by Ikusaburo Yamazaki, are also lovely. I really appreciated Yuzu's personality: unlike other heroines in similar anime, she puts up a lot more resistance. She is grateful that someone finally loves her unconditionally and would do anything for her, but she doesn't blindly accept imposed restrictions and refuses to be totally dependent. I also loved seeing Reiya soften up as their relationship progresses. I also liked how Yuzu handles her relationship with her family after the opening events. Despite her sweet and compassionate nature, with the support of those who care about her, she finally chooses herself and her own happiness after years of suffering. The cast is quite large, but unfortunately, it doesn't reach its full potential due to the limited episode count. My favorites are probably Yuzu's best friend and her boyfriend (who is also a yokai); as an already established couple, they support Yuzu and help explain certain world-building dynamics. I would have loved to see more of them, but I'll take what I can get. Character relationships also suffer a bit from the lack of time, but they aren't bad at all. One thing I absolutely loved—which is also potentially a brilliant marketing strategy—are the Ko-oni. If they ever release plushies of them, I need to get one, because they are just adorable and I want them with me all the time! All things considered, I would only recommend this story to dark romance lovers; if you don't like the genre, this series is probably not for you. Rating: 3.5/5 stars

this probably will be the briefest review i've ever done. what is this anime? well, it's essentially if dhar mann writes a full season of telenovela and asks a japanese studio to animate it. that's it. that's all this is. is it for some people, menopausal aunties perhaps? sure. maybe. but it's definitely not for me. and i bet 90% of you reading this review finds a telenovela written by dhar mann a very unattractive idea too. and this anime has zero chance of breaking into the "so bad it's good" territory either. so don't bother. this is a "i watched it so you don't have to" review. now go watch some actual peak.

"The Ogre's Bride" is... a thing, I guess. In 12 episodes, we get a finished ayakashi-human romance story with the main focus on soulmate like relationships and A LOT of family drama on the heroine's side. I really can't stand the main ship or any of the shown soulmate ships, really. The concept of soulmates in this show is so weird and has some really messed up vibes. Male ayakashi may or may not find a "chosen bride" at some point and it's handled like love on first sight - while mostly being one-sided, because the human often needs some time, before they develop any feelings on their own - or well.. they rather get cornered, until they give in. One dude just straight up stalks his "bride", until she opens up and eventually confesses to him. At least it felt like that to me. On the other hand it seems, that female ayakashi don't get soulmates, because they have "higher standards" and treasure "power and value". A really low blow, imho. The dynamic of the main ship is on so many levels deeply problematic. Not only is the dude the one with power, money and influence on a big scale, he also patronizes the MC in most bigger decisions, while cornering her into kissing him, although she clearly isn't ready for that and isn't sure about her own feelings for him. On top of that, she is the victim of abuse by her parents and sister since she was born basically. That messes up the dynamic even more, because that girl has nothing on her own, is completely love deprived, deeply anxious and can't accept a single good thing, without fear of loosing it again. And if that isn't enough, the only thing, women in this show seem to want, is to marry an ayakashi and push out babies to be happy. It makes me so mad. Yeah, main dude rescues her of the abusive family, but that doesn't make his behaviour overall right. He's controlling, he's manipulative, he's obsessive - all under the guise of "being in love" with her and wishing to "protect" her. The only thing that kept me watching, was the deep satisfaction, that the parents and sister got at the end, what they deserved. Really, I wished the girl everything good on this planet, after all the abuse, but that dude rang some huge bells in my head. A clear "no recommendation" for me.

Well, it was a very unexpected great surprise. Already made 3 rewatch. At first I didn't want to start it because I mistakenly thought it was a remake or similar to the anime "Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for spirits". But then I just started it out of curiosity since the graphics were so alluring and captivating. Personally speaking among all the seasonal anime in recent years, it's a well made one. DO NOT EXPECT A 360 DEGREE, BUT STILL in its own and simplicity, clichés, superficiality, it's worth watch personally, especially if you want something to relax and being detached from everyday life. Although I do not expect a second season, personally I would really like one.

Hello. A weird anime, that it kinda got me by surprise. Visuals. Usually its amazing. Yes, even with that old stuff vibe. They copied the style but it was upgraded to nowadays. So character design, colour palette, vfx, all is good. Even the animation, at times. Sure, some nitpicks here and there, but those won't spoil your entertainment. Audio. Very good sound design. If you watch episode 11, ou'll get what I mean. All those subtle things in the background, changhing with the vibe of the scene unfolding on the screen. Really nice work. So. Extremely good OP. I think I never skipped it, even though its nothing alike to what I usually listen to. And it really makes you think about that world. Also, very good visuals for it. As a personal opinion, I think it would've worked better as an ED, because of the feels good vibes. The ED is also good, and it really relaxes you after watching an episode. The rest of the tracks are good also, the volumes are ok. The VAs did very ok. But its a shame that all the studios force the FL's VA to play the same role in every anime she's part off. Because she's extremely talented, a bit of more complex characters to play would be more interesting. Editing, it was ok. The pacing is the usual one for a story such as this. At most times, at least. World building is meh. But even if it should be an important part of the story, even if it will keep make you asking "how about this? Wait, what about that?", you wont really miss it. The soft magic system is a bit meh. Not that it matters, at least until it might became a plot hole... So, kinda high production value. Not the good parts. This anime is meh. All the tropes and cliches from mangas from ago. If you've seen media from such times in general, you could guess what was going to happen next very easily. Two people arguing near a set of stairs? I wonder what would happen next...( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) So, yeah. The usual story, that you might or might not enjoy, depending on your tastes. It has a lot of plot devices, plot holes and plot contrivances. The dialogue is no better. Because of the same tropes, most of the lines are there to keep the story dragging on. The dialogue and the characterization are what made this anime a mid-level tier. And because of the segue, character development. Well, the FL is a walking trope. Silly, not the sharpest tool, kind, full of insecurities, keeps inner monologuing the same stupid stuff over and over etc.Like I said, if you've watched stuff like that, you know what I mean. Next, the sister. She kinda has a backstory, because thats not a character arc. And, conveniently, no one ever ever tried to disspell the misgivings. Until the end, no one did. I was watching and I was expecting that to be the "final" thing, and yet no one did say it to her, directly in her face. It was clear that she couldn't understand, and no one took pity and just say it outloud. Very weird anime... The parents are make into full evil beings. The same ep 11 that I mentioned earlier, was so trope-like that I was playing a game with myself, to guess the parents' next action. And I won. Yeey me :))) The rest of the characters, meh. Some cute, sure, but nothing deep. The romance aspect, the usual stuff from this kind of setup. Cheesy, weird, very... chaebol-like (thats the term, right? I wont check). Again, if you're into that, you'll enjoy it, I think. But now the heavy part. Is it a good anime? For those who still don't know, good is not the same with enjoyment. You can also enjoy bad media (aka my guilty pleasure), and thats not something to be afraid of. So, again, is this a good anime? No. The production aspect is good, but I'd rather have a decent/good story than a polished, shiny, golden turd. The story is full of plot contrivances and plot holes. It drags toooooo much, mostly because of the dumb FL. You might enjoy some scene for a reason or another, but the logic of the actions that gave said scenes is flawed. So, unfortunately, no. It gets a rating 6. Mostly because of the production aspect and some characters here and there. Mixed feelings. I'll never recommend it, but for someone who's into this kind of story, it might be enjoyable. No rewatching. Have a lovely evening.

This anime is just fine. Not too good, not too bad. I'm not quite interested with how the storyline went, episode 11 was techincally "Nothing and waste of time". Even right after episode 12, i quite lost interested. For people who seek anime that from 0 to 100, this is it. But most episode is more like waste of time, no entertainment, no romantic or any comedy making it absolutely a drama. At the first from episode 1 to 7 i find out it quite entertaining. The longer it gets, the more boring it is. This is just basically Cinderella anime.
